Navient Corporation NAVI is scheduled to report third-quarter 2025 results on Oct. 29, before the opening bell. Its quarterly revenues are expected to have risen, while earnings are expected to have declined on a year-over-year basis.
In the last reported quarter, NAVI’s adjusted earnings missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate. The results were affected by a decrease in net interest income (NII) and other income, along with higher provision for loan losses. However, lower expenses acted as a tailwind.
NAVI has an impressive earnings surprise history. Its earnings outpaced estimates in the trailing three quarters and missed once, with the average earnings surprise being 17.97%.
Navient's Price and EPS Surprise
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for earnings of 18 cents per share has remained unchanged in the past week. The figure indicates a 35.7% plunge from the year-ago reported figure.
The consensus estimate for sales of $142.2 million suggests a rise of 1.6%.
Factors to Influence Navient’s Results in Q3
Revenues: Per the Fed’s latest data, consumer loan demand was solid in the third quarter despite tariff-related uncertainties. As such, Navient’s Consumer Lending segment is expected to have recorded a decent rise in revenues. However, the Federal Education Loans segment revenue is likely under pressure due to lower prepayment levels and subdued originations.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for NII (Core) is pegged at $142.2 million, indicating a sequential rise of 8.6%. The consensus estimate for NII (Federal Education loan) is pegged at $50.3 million, suggesting a 2.7% rise on a sequential basis. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for NII (consumer lending) is pegged at $107.8 million, implying a decline of 4.6%.
The consensus estimate for servicing revenues is pegged at $9.9 million, indicating a 29.1% fall from the prior quarter.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for total non-interest income of $23.9 million indicates a 27.5% decline sequentially.
Expenses: Navient’s ongoing cost-control initiatives are expected to have supported operating efficiency and reduced expenses in the third quarter. The company’s strategic actions, including the sale of its Government Services and Healthcare Services businesses, workforce reduction efforts, and outsourcing of servicing operations to MOHELA, are likely to have contributed to a further decline in operating expenses in the to-be-reported quarter.

Capital One’s COF third-quarter 2025 adjusted earnings of $5.95 per share widely surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $4.20. The bottom line also compared favorably with $5.48 in the prior quarter.
COF’s results benefited from an increase in NII and non-interest income, and lower provisions. Also, higher loans and a stable deposit balance supported the performance. However, a rise in expenses was undermining the factor.
Ally Financial’s ALLY third-quarter 2025 adjusted earnings of $1.15 per share surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 99 cents. Further, the bottom line reflected a significant jump from the year-ago quarter.
Results primarily benefited from a rise in net finance revenues and lower provisions. Also, a marginal rally in loan balances supported the results to some extent. However, a decline in other revenues and higher non-interest expenses were the undermining factors for ALLY.

However, Q3 profits are expected to have risen by +7.2% y/y, the smallest increase in two years. Also, Q3 sales growth is projected to slow to +5.9% y/y from 6.4% in Q2.

Interest Rates
December 10-year T-notes (ZNZ5) today are down -2 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is up +0.8 bp to 3.963%. Supply pressures are weighing on T-notes as the Treasury will auction $13 billion of 20-year T-bonds later today. Losses in T-notes are contained due to the ongoing US government shutdown, which could lead to additional job losses, reduced consumer spending, and a weakened US economy, potentially allowing the Fed to continue cutting interest rates.
European government bond yields are mixed today. The 10-year German bund yield is up +0.9 bp to 2.561%. The 10-year UK gilt yield dropped to a 6.5-month low of 4.369% and is down -7.7 bp to 4.401%.
UK Sep CPI rose +3.8% y/y, unchanged from Aug and weaker than expectations of +4.0% y/y. Sep core CPI unexpectedly eased to +3.5% y/y from +3.6% y/y in Aug, weaker than expectations of +3.7% y/y.
Swaps are discounting a 2% chance for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at its next policy meeting on October 30.

Texas Instruments (TXN) is down more than -7% to lead chipmakers lower after forecasting Q4 revenue of $4.22 billion to $4.58 billion, with the midpoint below the consensus of $4.50 billion. Also, Microchip Technology (MCHP) is down more than -4% and Analog Devices (ADI) is down more than -3%. In addition, NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) and ON Semiconductor (ON) are down more than -2%, and Marvell Technology (MRVL), GlobalFoundries (GFS), Qualcomm (QCOM), and Intel (INTC) are down more than -1%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks are sliding today, with the price of Bitcoin down more than -2%. As a result, Coinbase Global (COIN), Galaxy Digital (GLXY), MARA Holdings (MARA), Riot Platforms (RIOT), and Strategy (MSTR) are down more than -1%.

Stocks Pressured as Texas Instruments Drags Chipmakers Lower

Shares of Capital One COF jumped 4.6% in after-hours trading following the announcement of better-than-expected third-quarter 2025 results and new capital distribution plans. Adjusted earnings of $5.95 per share widely surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $4.20. The bottom line also compared favorably with $5.48 in the prior quarter.
Results benefited from an increase in net interest income (NII) and non-interest income, and lower provisions. Also, higher loans and a stable deposit balance supported the performance. However, a rise in expenses was undermining the factor.
Results excluded several non-recurring items, including charges related to the Discover Financial acquisition. After considering these, net income available to common shareholders was $3.09 billion or $4.83 per share against a net loss of $4.34 billion or $8.58 per share in the last quarter.
Capital One’s Revenues Increase, Expenses Jump
Total net revenues were $15.36 billion, jumping 23% sequentially. Also, the top line beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $14.9 billion.
NII surged 24% from the prior quarter to $12.4 billion. NIM expanded 74 basis points (bps) to 8.36%.
Non-interest income of $2.96 billion grew 18%. The rise was driven by higher service charges and other customer-related fees, and discount and interchange fees, partially offset by a fall in other income.
Non-interest expenses were $8.26 billion, up 18%. The rise was due to an increase in almost all cost components except professional services. Adjusted expenses were $7.42 billion, jumping 16%.
The efficiency ratio was 53.8%, up from 53.07% in the last quarter. A rise in the efficiency ratio indicates a deterioration in profitability.
As of Sept. 30, 2025, loans held for investment were $443.2 billion, up 1% from the prior-quarter end. Total deposits were $468.8 billion, relatively stable.
COF’s Credit Quality: A Mixed Bag
Provision for credit losses was $2.71 billion, a 76% fall from the prior quarter. Additionally, allowance, as a percentage of reported loans held for investment, was 5.21%, down 22 bps.
Further, the net charge-off rate declined 8 bps to 3.16%. On the other hand, the 30-plus-day-performing delinquency rate rose 16 bps sequentially to 3.29%.
COF’s Capital Ratios Improve
As of Sept. 30, 2025, the Tier 1 risk-based capital ratio was 15.5%, up from 15.1% as of June 30, 2025. The common equity Tier 1 capital ratio was 14.4%, improving from 14%.
Capital One’s Capital Distribution Update
During the reported quarter, the company repurchased 4.6 million shares for $1 billion.
Additionally, COF’s board of directors authorized the repurchase of up to $16 billion of shares, which began on Oct. 21, 2025. This replaced the company’s previous buyback authorization.
Further, the company intends to raise its quarterly dividend by 33.3% to 80 cents per share, subject to approval by its board of directors.
Our View on Capital One
Capital One’s strategic expansion efforts, decent demand for consumer loans, favorable changes in interest rates and steady improvement in the card business position it well for long-term growth. Moreover, the acquisition of Discover Financial has reshaped the landscape of the credit card industry, leading to the formation of a behemoth in the industry. However, elevated expenses and weak asset quality amid a tough macroeconomic backdrop are concerns.

Performance & Earnings Date of COF’s Peers
Ally Financial’s ALLY third-quarter 2025 adjusted earnings of $1.15 per share surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 99 cents. Further, the bottom line reflected a significant jump from the year-ago quarter.
Results primarily benefited from a rise in net finance revenues and lower provisions. Also, a marginal rally in loan balances supported ALLY’s results to some extent. However, a decline in other revenues and higher non-interest expenses were the undermining factors.
Navient NAVI is scheduled to announce third-quarter 2025 results on Oct. 29.
