Brookfield Asset Management is a leading alternative investment manager with over $1 trillion in assets under management (AUM). It generates stable fee-based income with additional future earnings growth from carried interest (a share of a fund's profits above a certain return target). The company currently pays a 3.3%-yielding dividend, roughly triple the S&P 500's level.
The asset manager has been a dividend growth juggernaut since its spinoff from Brookfield Corporation in late 2022. It hiked its payout by 19% in early 2024 and by another 15% the following year.
Brookfield Asset Management expects to deliver around 20% annual earnings growth over the next five years. It's capitalizing on the steady shift toward alternatives by investors and investment megatrends such as AI infrastructure. That robust growth rate should support continued dividend growth of 15%+ annually in the coming years.
A high-octane, high-yielding payout
MPLX is a master limited partnership (MLP) -- MLPs send investors a Schedule K-1 Federal tax form each year -- focused on operating energy midstream assets like pipelines and processing plants. Those assets generate very stable cash flow backed by long-term contracts and government-regulated rate structures. The MLP currently yields 8.1%.
The pipeline company produces enough stable cash to cover its payout by a comfy 1.3 times. Meanwhile, it has a conservative leverage ratio of 3.7 times, well below the 4.0 times range that its stable cash flows can support. Its healthy financial profile provides it with ample flexibility to make acquisitions and invest in organic expansion projects.
MPLX completed several acquisitions in 2025, led by its $2.4 billion purchase of Northwind Midstream. Meanwhile, it has a long list of organic expansion projects underway that it expects to complete through 2029. These growth catalysts will give the MLP ample fuel to continue increasing its distribution. MPLX recently increased its payout by 12.5%, marking its second consecutive year of growth at that rate and its fourth straight year of delivering a double-digit distribution growth rate.
Ample pathways to deliver above-average growth rates
Prologis is the leading real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on logistics properties like warehouses. It secures these properties with long-term leases that escalate rents at a modest annual rate. As a result, they provide Prologis with stable cash flow to cover its 3.2%-yielding dividend.
The company has grown its dividend at a 13% compound annual rate over the past five years. That's faster than the REIT sector average of 6% and the S&P 500's 5% dividend growth rate.
Prologis is in a strong position to continue growing its dividend at an above-average rate in the future. The industrial REIT boasts a fortress-like financial profile, affording it ample financial flexibility to invest in expansion projects and make strategic acquisitions. The company has a vast land bank to support development projects, including both warehouses and data centers. Additionally, it invests in solar and energy storage projects to provide clean power to its tenants. Add in rising rents (embedded in its leases and capturing higher market rent growth as legacy leases expire), and Prologis should continue growing its earnings and 3.2%-yielding dividend at above-average rates.

Many of the stocks on this year's list are repeats from 2025, but there are also a few new entrants. Without further ado, here are my 26 top dividend stocks to buy and hold in 2026.

Dividend royalty
Let's start with the Dividend Kings, an elite group of stocks that have increased their dividends for at least 50 consecutive years. I like three members of the dividend royalty for 2026:

I especially like AbbVie's story. The major drugmaker faced a significant patent cliff with its longtime best-selling drug, Humira, losing U.S. patent exclusivity in early 2023. However, AbbVie has roared back. I view it as one of the best healthcare stocks on the market for income investors.
Stocks that Uncle Sam incentivizes to pay dividends
The U.S. government exempts certain types of companies from federal income taxes if they return at least 90% of their earnings to shareholders as dividends. Two stocks that fit the bill rank among my favorites for the new year:

Realty Income could be especially popular with investors. In addition to a juicy yield, the REIT pays its dividends on a monthly basis. And Realty Income has increased its dividend for 30 consecutive years.
Magnificent growth plus dividends
I doubt anyone will buy the so-called "Magnificent Seven" stocks for their dividends, although several members of the group pay relatively small dividends. However, buying these stocks for their growth prospects is another story. Three of my top Mag7 dividend stocks are:

I'm especially bullish about Google's parent company, Alphabet, in 2026. It checks off nearly every box in the artificial intelligence (AI) arena, with a top-three cloud platform, a leading large language model (LLM), and AI chips that are gaining market momentum.
Energizers
Energy stocks have long been favorites among income investors for their dependable, high dividend yields. These four energy stocks look especially promising, in my view:

Enbridge is perhaps the most intriguing stock in this group. Its pipelines transport 30% of the crude oil transported in North America and roughly one-fifth of the natural gas consumed in the U.S. However, the company is also the largest natural gas utility in North America. Enbridge has increased its dividend for 31 consecutive years.
Utility players
Utility stocks typically pay attractive dividends and can be safe havens during turbulent times. I like several utility stocks for 2026, with these seven especially standing out:

You probably noticed that "Brookfield" was mentioned four times. Brookfield Renewable and Brookfield Infrastructure each have two listed stocks: one for their limited partnerships (LPs) and one for their corporate entities. These companies are siblings sharing the same parent, Brookfield Asset Management (NYSE: BAM).
Great values
What's better than a solid dividend? A solid dividend plus an attractive valuation. These six stocks check off both boxes:

All of these stocks have forward price-to-earnings ratios that are much lower than the S&P 500's (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) forward earnings multiple. I think that UnitedHealth Group's stock, in particular, could bounce back in 2026 after struggling in 2025.
One oddball
Finally, I've added one oddball to the list for 2026:

Brookfield's bold bets on AI infrastructure
In November, Brookfield, through its asset management arm, Brookfield Asset Management, launched its inaugural Brookfield AI Infrastructure Fund, aiming to raise $10 billion in capital from investors. Brookfield Corporation is anchoring the fund along with Nvidia and the Kuwait Investment Authority. This fund, together with additional capital from co-investors and other financing, will enable it to acquire up to $100 billion of AI infrastructure assets in the future. Initial investments include funding up to $5 billion of advanced fuel cells by Bloom Energy to provide power solutions to AI data centers and launching Radiant, a cloud services company that will build AI factories (specialized AI data centers).
The fund is just one of many ways Brookfield is investing in AI infrastructure. It also owns interests in renewable power producer Brookfield Renewable and infrastructure operator Brookfield Infrastructure. Brookfield Renewable is developing renewable energy for AI leaders like Microsoft. It also owns a stake in Westinghouse Electric, which will build at least $80 billion of new nuclear reactors for the U.S. government to support AI power demand. Meanwhile, Brookfield Infrastructure is helping fund two advanced semiconductor fabrication facilities for Intel and building multiple data centers worldwide.
These catalysts drive Brookfield's view that it can grow its earnings per share at a 25% compound annual rate over the next five years. As a result, it could double your money by the end of the decade.

This AI Infrastructure Play Could Double Your Money

Coca-Cola is still a stalwart investment, but rival PepsiCo offers more to newcomers right now.
The oil and gas industry is still nowhere near its once-expected end. Energy giant Chevron remains one of the best income-based bets in the business.
It’s not a household name, but Brookfield Asset Management is built to be a fantastic dividend payer thanks to its recurring, growing revenue and generous payout ratio.
The holiday gift-giving season may be wrapping up, but that doesn't mean investors can't ring in the New Year with some gifts to themselves that keep on giving the whole year long. The right dividend stocks will add ever-increasing value to your portfolio, either through growing cash payouts, or -- when these payments are reinvested -- more shares of the stock paying them. And given that reliable dividend stocks tend to outperform inconsistent or non-dividend payers, even growth-minded investors might be wise to make a point of adding some of these names to their holdings.

PepsiCo
One of the most popular income stocks from the consumer staples sector of the stock market is Coca-Cola. And understandably so. The company's products are among the beverage industry's best-known, while the company itself has not only paid a dividend like clockwork for decades, but has raised its dividend payment every year for the past 63 years.
If you're looking for a better yield opportunity from a consumer goods name, however, Coca-Cola rival PepsiCo (NASDAQ: PEP) is arguably the better beverage bet right now, while its forward-looking dividend yield stands at nearly 4%.
Granted, as anyone keeping tabs on this company of late knows, this yield has been pumped up largely because PepsiCo's stock has underperformed.
Blame inflation, mostly. Some of PepsiCo's rising costs have been passed along to its customers, but many of them haven't, biting into its profits.
These headwinds are finally abating, though, after the company itself has regrouped into a more relevant and marketable family of brands. For instance, in March the company acquired prebiotic soda brand Poppi, and in July unveiled the world's first prebiotic cola.
Analysts aren't looking for an explosive response to these and other overhauls. But, they do expect sales growth to accelerate to a pace of 3.6% in the year ahead, driving even faster earnings growth. Once other investors see this growth materializing, they could jump on board pretty quickly, dragging this stock's current dividend yield lower by driving the stock's price higher. Acting before that happens would be better than moving after the fact.
Contrary to a common assumption, the advent of renewable energy and electric vehicles isn't reducing the consumption of fossil fuels like crude oil and natural gas; the need for electricity and transportation is absorbing all of this capacity growth, and then some. Indeed, the International Energy Agency now believes the world's daily usage of oil won't reach its absolute peak until 2050, pushing a previous prediction much further down the road. And even then, they'll only modestly dwindle for the next few decades.
Translation: There's still money to be made in the oil business, and there will be for a long while.
Enter Chevron (NYSE: CVX) ... one of the oil industry's biggest and best-known names. Last year, it turned a top line of $203 billion into net income of nearly $18 billion, and is on pace to report comparable numbers this year. This massive size and scale, of course, means the company can fund the very best of opportunities and operate more cost-efficiently. More specifically, it means that deeper-pocketed Chevron can afford to operate a more complex business that includes drilling, refining, and transportation, which allows it to safely maintain its dividend and required capital expenditures even if oil prices dip to $50 per barrel. The company can cover all of its upstream production costs with oil priced as low as $30 per barrel, in fact, making it one of the most cost-effective players in the energy business.
More importantly to interested income investors, it means Chevron's track record of 38 years of uninterrupted annual dividend growth should remain uninterrupted well into the indefinite future. Newcomers will be plugging in while its forward-looking yield stands at just under 4.6%.
Brookfield Asset Management
Last but not least, add Brookfield Asset Management (NYSE: BAM) to your list of dividend stocks that keep on giving well after you buy them.
If the name rings a bell, it may be because several investments bearing the same name are part of this family. These include Brookfield Infrastructure Partners, Brookfield Renewable Partners, and Brookfield Business Partners. Each of these outfits brings its own unique investment proposition to the table, capitalizing on the modern-day economy's top opportunities, ranging from energy infrastructure to real estate to artificial intelligence to private equity in several perpetually marketable service businesses. Brookfield Renewable's hydroelectric power plants located in Pennsylvania, for instance, will supply more than $3 billion worth of power to data centers owned and operated by Alphabet's Google for the next several years. In many cases, there's no other way to invest in these up-and-coming companies.
Brookfield Asset Management itself is different, though. It's the manager of this entire family of funds, collecting ongoing fees for its work as the management firm for over $1 trillion worth of businesses. More to the point, this recurring fee-based business is ideally suited for supporting dividends and dividend growth. Its target revenue growth of between 15% and 20% for the foreseeable future. With a payout ratio on the order of 90%, shareholders' dividend income should grow at roughly this same pace.
You'll never get explosive capital gains from this stock; that's the trade-off with a management fee-based business like this one. With plausible growth in the low double-digits and a forward-looking dividend yield of 3.3% for today's buyers, however, reinvesting your ever-rising dividends in more shares of BAM could translate into long-term net gains readily rivaling those of most growth stocks.

What has powered Bloom Energy's surge in 2025?
Data centers require a massive amount of electricity to run complex chips, extensive cooling systems, and other equipment. They need a stable source of energy 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. As a result, data center operators require backup systems to ensure these facilities continue operating when the grid fails.
That's leading many data center operators to turn to fuel cells for their power needs. For example, data center REIT Equinix has partnered with Bloom Energy to deploy its next-generation fuel cells across 19 of its data centers for reliable, cleaner onsite energy generation. The company has also partnered with Oracle to deploy fuel cells at some of its cloud infrastructure data centers. Additionally, Bloom Energy formed a $5 billion strategic partnership with Brookfield Asset Management, where it will become the preferred on-site power provider for Brookfield's global AI factories (specialized AI data centers). Brookfield could install up to 1 GW of Bloom Energy's power solutions in the future.
These and other deals are driving surging demand for Bloom Energy's advanced fuel cell technology. The company's revenue rocketed 57% in the third quarter to $519 million, its fourth straight quarter of delivering record revenue. The company's underlying profitability is also improving. It generated $7.8 million in operating income during the third quarter, reversing the $9.7 million loss it reported in the same period last year.
Just getting the party started
Bloom Energy has deployed about 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of its energy servers to 1,200 sites across a half dozen countries. Current customers include data center operators, electric utilities, and commercial and industrial companies that require reliable power at their mission-critical facilities. The company expects to ramp up its manufacturing capacity to 2 GW by the end of 2026, with its current facilities scalable to 5 GW as needed in the future.
That's only a tiny fraction of the power needed by data centers alone in the future. U.S. data center power demand could reach 106 GW by 2035, up from 25 GW last year. That represents a massive potential total addressable market opportunity for Bloom Energy. Meanwhile, the global opportunity is even bigger.
Bloom Energy should continue growing its revenue briskly in the future as partners like Brookfield deploy its solutions at additional data centers. Meanwhile, the company will likely continue to partner with more data center developers, utilities, and commercial and industrial customers to help fulfill their future power needs.
While shares of the company could be volatile in the future, Bloom Energy has tremendous growth potential. That growth could give it the power to continue producing impressive returns in the coming years as electricity demand surges.

Bloom Energy Stock Skyrocketed 300% In 2025: Is The Party Over?

Bill Ackman is one of the most widely followed billionaire hedge fund managers in the world. Not only does his fund, Pershing Square Capital Management, perform well relative to its benchmarks, he's also very outspoken and shares his reasoning behind his fund's investments. The fund typically holds just a dozen or so high conviction investments, and Ackman and his team like to take long-term views on the stocks they buy.
But sometimes it makes sense to sell an investment. If an investment thesis fails to play out or no longer rings true, it can be better to ditch the stock and redeploy the capital in other companies. Such was the case recently when Pershing Square exited its positions in two stocks. Heading into 2026, the team can focus on a few big investments driving returns for its shareholders.

Dropping one of its longest held stocks
Pershing Square finally sold the rest of its shares of Chipotle (NYSE: CMG) earlier this quarter.
The hedge fund initially invested in Chipotle in 2016, following two separate outbreaks of E. coli linked to its restaurants. Ackman and the team were confident Chipotle could recover and return to the strong same-store sales growth it saw before the incidents. Indeed, under CEO Brian Niccol, Chipotle averaged 9% same-store sales growth from his start through the end of 2024.
But the restaurant has struggled in 2025. Comparable store sales declined through the first half of the year. For the third-quarter, comparable sales improved just 0.3%, but management warned it expects same-store sales to decline again in Q4 in the mid-single-digit range.
Meanwhile, with its declining same-store sales, Chipotle isn't in a position to raise prices to offset the rising food costs of the last few years. As a result, it's faced pressure on its margins. Operating margin fell 800 basis points through the first nine months of the year to 16.9%.
Pershing Square investment analyst Anthony Massaro pointed out the stock now trades for around 25 times forward earnings, which makes it historically cheap. However, the analysts don't have enough confidence it can return to its historical growth trends to justify staying invested in the stock.
The turnaround story that's not turning fast enough
Ackman and his team saw an opportunity to invest in Nike (NYSE: NKE) last year, as the company looked to turn things around after a few managerial blunders. With the installation of veteran exec Elliott Hill at the end of 2024, Pershing Square saw fit to double down on Nike by selling its shares in the stock in exchange for deep in the money call options. That also freed up some capital for investment elsewhere. But the hedge fund exited those options contracts this quarter, as they're no longer confident in the turnaround.
The biggest concern for the investment team is Nike's ability to return to its pre-COVID profit margins. It built a high margin business based on its brand strength and innovations, two areas of focus for Hill in his turnaround plans. However, the new tariffs implemented by President Trump will have a huge impact on Nike's profitability. And while management believes it can mitigate most of those costs, it'll be hard to offset them entirely. Meanwhile, the athletic wear company faces a growing amount of competition, which could weigh on margins indefinitely.
The turnaround progress so far has been slow. Sales for fiscal 2025 fell 10%, and its earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) margin shrank from 12.7% to 8.2%. Margins are starting to rebound in fiscal 2026, but sales remain on the decline, and there's still a lot of uncertainty about what the long-term run rate will be for the company. Management said it expects to return to double-digit margins. But as Massaro pointed out, there's a big difference between a 10% margin and a 13% or 14% margin.
With the uncertainty around the margin outlook for Nike, Pershing exited the position, losing 30% on its initial investment, in just about a year and a half.
Where Ackman's investing instead
With the disposal of the Chipotle and Nike positions and no announcement regarding new investments, Pershing Square's equity portfolio is getting more concentrated. Its biggest holdings are now Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Brookfield (NYSE: BN) (TSX: BN).
Pershing Square has held both stocks throughout 2025, and they've been strong performers for the fund. Even so, the stocks still look attractive today.
Alphabet has seen very strong momentum in recent months following a ruling on its antitrust case that came with much more lenient remedies than expected. Followed by strong earnings results and momentum in its cloud computing business, shares have climbed considerably.
Alphabet is a leading AI service provider across both software and hardware. Its recently released Gemini 3.0 foundation model tested extremely well against benchmarks, and it's seeing greater adoption of its custom AI accelerators. Importantly, Alphabet benefits from advancements in both areas as it integrates its LLM into its core search product, advertising services, and YouTube. As a result, Google's revenue has continued to climb despite fears of AI chatbots displacing it. Meanwhile, the cloud computing business has shown strong operating leverage as it scales at a rapid pace.
That momentum should continue well into 2026. As a result, there's still value in the stock despite its earnings multiple expanding into the upper 20s.
Brookfield, meanwhile, is poised to generate strong results in 2026. Subsidiary Brookfield Asset Management is set to launch several large funds next year, which should attract significant capital. Meanwhile, Brookfield should start to recognize a growing amount of carried interest. Management said it expects to generate $6 billion in carried interest over the next three years after taking in just $4 billion in the previous decade. That should accelerate as the new funds mature over the next few years.
Management also projected 25% compound annual growth in distributable earnings over the next five years. That makes the stock look extremely cheap at its current valuation of about 15 times forward earnings expectations. Pershing Square remains confident in both Brookfield and Alphabet, so it's no wonder they combine to make up around 40% of its remaining equity portfolio.

After plunging by as much as nearly 15% mid-week, however, some investors saw an opportunity. As of Friday mid-morning, Bloom shares remained lower for the week, but only by 6.8%, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Data centers aren't dead
Bloom stock took off starting in July when the company announced a collaboration with Oracle to provide fuel cell power for planned AI data centers. News in October that the fuel cell maker would partner with Brookfield Asset Management on another $5 billion data center project venture only juiced investors' desire to own Bloom stock.
Concerns of a growing bubble burst the trade this week, though. Bloom shares did get ahead of the business prospects with its monster 560% gain between July and November. But after this week's move cut the stock nearly in half, investors are back buying the dip.
Bloom still looks expensive with a market cap of over $21 billion. But the business could certainly grow into that valuation over time. Long-term investors may still have a market-beating stock as data center power needs continue to grow.

From boom to bust?
In October, Bloom announced a $5 billion deal with Brookfield Asset Management, under which the asset manager will build artificial intelligence (AI) data centers powered by Bloom's fuel cell technology. Large capital investment commitments like that are now being questioned by investors, however.
Today, investor scrutiny of AI spending has increased, with reports that private equity asset manager Blue Owl Capital may not provide financing for a $10 billion data center in Michigan, previously announced in collaboration with tech giant Oracle.
Investors poured into Bloom shares, hoping that the massive AI spending would bring a windfall for the company. Bloom's valuation soared on those hopes to a market cap of over $33.5 billion. That's a rich valuation for a company that just reported record quarterly revenue of $519 million.
Now that AI spending is being questioned, investors are booking profits in Bloom Energy stock. That helps explain today's stock price plunge.

The 2010s were a dismal decade for nuclear energy stocks. The Fukushima disaster in 2011 prompted many countries to halt their nuclear power projects, and the COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbated this downturn by forcing uranium miners to suspend their operations.
However, the nuclear energy market broadly recovered in the 2020s as more countries rolled out new decarbonization initiatives and the power-hungry cloud and AI markets expanded. Safer nuclear reactor technologies also allayed fears of another devastating meltdown.

Between 2024 and 2050, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) anticipates a global nuclear capacity increase of up to 2.6 times. To capitalize on this secular trend, which could easily turn a modest $1,000 investment into several thousand dollars over the next decade, investors should consider adding a few resilient nuclear stocks to their long-term portfolios. One of those stocks should be Cameco (NYSE: CCJ), one of the world's largest uranium miners.
Cameco benefits from rising uranium prices
Cameco, which is based in Canada, mined approximately 17% of the world's uranium in 2024. That makes it the second-largest miner after Kazatomprom (OTC: NATK.Y) in Kazakhstan. It operates its mines and mills across Canada, the U.S., and Kazakhstan.
Like many other uranium miners, Cameco struggled when the uranium spot price plunged from its peak of $136 per pound in June 2007 to just $18 per pound in November 2016. From 2011 to 2021, its annual revenue plummeted from $2.4 billion to $1.2 billion, with no single year of growth.
But by the end of November 2025, the spot price of uranium had risen back to $75.80 per pound. From 2021 to 2024, Cameco's annual revenue grew at a CAGR of 29%. For 2025, it expects its uranium revenue to rise 8% with an average realized price of approximately $87 per pound.
That recovery was driven by the market's renewed interest in nuclear power, geopolitical conflicts in uranium-rich regions, and the previous closures of uranium mines, which further restricted the available supply of uranium. Cameco restarted its mining operations at McArthur River and Key Lake in 2022, as uranium's spot prices bounced back. However, the market's demand continues to outstrip its available supply, as more countries expand their nuclear projects.
Cameco is becoming a one-stop shop for nuclear power
Cameco is typically considered a cyclical company, as its growth is closely tied to the volatile prices of uranium. But over the past few years, it diversified its business beyond its mines to become a "one-stop shop" for nuclear power solutions.
In 2021, Cameco increased its stake in Global Laser Enrichment (GLE) -- its joint venture with Silex (OTC: SILXY) -- from 24% to 49%. By integrating GLE's laser-powered tools into its core mining and conversion businesses, it was able to directly sell enriched uranium fuel.
In 2023, Cameco partnered with Brookfield Asset Management (NYSE: BAM) to acquireWestinghouse Electric, a leading nuclear power plant designer and builder. Its 49% stake in Westinghouse significantly reduced its long-term dependence on volatile uranium prices.
That expansion and evolution make Cameco a balanced play on the long-term growth of the nuclear energy market. It recently reduced its near-term output guidance at its McArthur River mine due to ground-freezing issues. Still, this decrease in production -- which mirrors similar output cuts at Kazatomprom and other miners -- actually drives up uranium prices and boosts its near-term revenues and profits.
Why Cameco is a safe place to park $1,000
From 2024 to 2027, analysts expect Cameco's revenue and earnings per share (EPS) to grow at a CAGR of 9% and 90%, respectively, as uranium prices continue to rise. Some bullish analysts expect the uranium spot price to climb to $100 in 2026 and $140 in 2027 as the rapid expansion of the cloud, AI, and data center markets spurs fresh demand for new nuclear power projects. At $86, Cameco's stock might seem a bit pricey at 56 times next year's earnings. However, its scale, diversification, and stable growth all justify that higher valuation -- and it should have plenty of room to run as the nuclear energy market expands again.

The power struggle
Data centers consume a significant amount of power, particularly those designed to support AI. With more AI data centers coming online, the country's power usage is surging. Data centers in the U.S. will require 22% more grid power by the end of this year compared to 2024's level, according to a forecast from S&P Global. Meanwhile, it anticipates that power demand from these facilities will more than triple by 2030.
That's leading cloud computing and AI companies to lock up power supplies -- especially from lower-carbon energy sources -- to ensure they have enough to meet their future needs. Google signed a first-of-its-kind hydroelectric framework agreement with Brookfield Asset Management and its power-producing affiliate, Brookfield Renewable, earlier this year. It will buy up to 3 gigawatts (GW) of this carbon-free energy in the U.S. in the future, the largest-ever hydropower deal. The first two 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) as part of this framework cover 670 megawatts (MW) of capacity at a cost of more than $3 billion.
Google followed that up by announcing a new collaboration with NextEra Energy in October to accelerate the deployment of nuclear energy in the U.S. As part of that agreement, NextEra Energy will restart the dormant Duane Arnold Energy Center in Iowa. The company shut the plant down in 2020 due to economic reasons, but now aims to bring it back online by 2029 to support Google's growing power needs. The tech giant will purchase 615 MW of the plant's power via a 25-year PPA. Additionally, the companies plan to explore the development of new nuclear power generation in the U.S. to support the country's surging electricity needs.
A landmark agreement
Google and NextEra Energy recently announced a meaningful expansion of their long-standing energy and technology collaboration. The companies now plan to jointly develop multiple GW-scale data center campuses across the U.S. They are combining their expertise (Google's data center development capabilities with NextEra's energy development experience) to rapidly develop the land, load interconnection and supporting generation, and capacity resources to build more data centers. They have already identified three locations and plan to develop more in the future.
Additionally, the companies are collaborating on technology. They plan to have their first commercial product available in the Google Cloud Marketplace by the middle of next year. It will integrate Google's generative and agentic AI capabilities with NextEra's asset data. The AI-powered product will help energy companies manage fieldwork, predict energy equipment issues, and enhance the reliability of the grid.
"Our partnership with Google exemplifies this very singular moment when energy and technology are becoming inextricably intertwined," stated NextEra Energy CEO John Ketchum in the press release unveiling the landmark collaboration. Together, the companies will collaboratively build new data center capacity and energy infrastructure at scale, using advanced cutting-edge technology. This new partnership will, in the words of Ketchum, "reimagine how energy companies operate."
NextEra is moving from an energy supplier to a partner in developing integrated AI infrastructure. The company sees the potential to develop 15 GW of data centers by 2035, which is a conservative estimate. It's also working with other energy suppliers to help them develop lower-carbon energy solutions that support data center development. For example, it has partnered with ExxonMobil to develop gas-fired power plants for data centers that use carbon capture and storage technology to reduce carbon emissions. They're working on a 1.2 GW gas plant that they're marketing to data center developers.
Energy is becoming a focal point
Google's new deal shows the growing importance of energy in supporting the AI boom. The tech giant is significantly expanding its long-standing collaboration with NextEra Energy, which is becoming a partner in developing new data centers that integrate power with technology. It could serve as a blueprint for the energy industry to follow in the future to power its growth.
