Investors will buy and sell high-quality stocks periodically, but calling a stock a "never sell" places it in a different category. That says that a shareholder will continue to hold regardless of the company's challenges or industry downturns.
Admittedly, it may also be dangerous to label a stock as such, as seemingly rock-solid investment theses can sometimes get broken. Still, it is unlikely I'm letting go of my shares of Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD), and here's why.

Why I'm keeping AMD in my portfolio
Ultimately, I am staying with AMD because of CEO Lisa Su's long-term success with the company. Su took a nearly bankrupt chip company in the early 2010s and turned it around by focusing on CPUs and GPUs. This proved fortuitous as the rise of AI made these chips more essential.
Moreover, her focus on that part of the chip industry allowed AMD to focus on quality, eventually surpassing Intel in CPUs. It also made competitive strides versus Nvidia in some parts of the GPU market and became a leader in gaming and later, embedded chips.
To be fair, AMD appeared to lose out amid Nvidia's development of the AI accelerator. However, the company has closed much of the gap in this area, and its upcoming MI450 AI accelerator is on track to surpass Nvidia's future Vera Rubin accelerator in many respects.
This growing technical prowess likely helped lead to its recent agreement with Meta Platforms to power the Facebook parent's next-generation AI infrastructure. This and other deals should help AMD drive steady gains.
Also, amid that success, AMD told investors that it expects to grow revenue at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 35% over the next three years. That included a 60% CAGR for its data center segment, which designs its AI accelerators. That would place that part of the business on par with Nvidia's 65% annual revenue growth in fiscal 2026.
It is also worth noting that Nvidia derives over 90% of revenue from its data center segment. In comparison, AMD derives just under half of its revenue from the data center segment now, though its expected growth rate implies that it will soon earn most of its revenue from that business.
Furthermore, AMD's valuation has become increasingly favorable. Although its 77 P/E ratio may appear high, rapid profit growth has it on track for a forward P/E ratio of 31. That compares well to the S&P 500's average 29 P/E ratio, implying that its accelerated growth could take the stock much higher over time.
Holding AMD
Thanks to its growing importance in AI and the chip industry in general, I'm never selling, or at least I'm highly unlikely to sell my AMD stock.
Yes, AMD lags behind Nvidia in the AI chip industry. Nonetheless, its technical strides have made it a major player in that fast-growing industry. With that, its stock continues to make gains even as its valuation is set to fall. Amid those conditions, AMD is fast becoming Nvidia's most formidable competitor, and that will likely continue to translate into higher returns in the AI stock.

1 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Stock I'd Never Sell

AMD is the second-largest data center GPU company by market share.
Late last year, it locked in a potential $100 billion deal with OpenAI, with Microsoft, Meta, and Oracle also announcing they would buy AMD chips.
The company is not growing as quickly as Nvidia, but it could emerge as a serious rival to it in the near future.
Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) leads the pack in terms of data center computing hardware. Per IOT Analytics' estimates, Nvidia controls a 92% share of the market. That makes all the major artificial intelligence (AI) models dependent upon Nvidia graphics processing units (GPUs) to a high degree.
OpenAI, Anthropic, and more all need the company's products, and Nvidia has profited handsomely from it. Today, it's the world's most valuable company by market cap.

But, as the saying goes, don't put all your eggs in one basket. Nvidia has competitors like Alphabet with its Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) or the subject of this article, Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD), better known by its initials and symbol, AMD.
Not looking to be an also-ran
At present, AMD has a 4% share of the data center GPU market. That's not much, but it's double the next-largest company, which is Huawei, at 2%.
It's second only to Nvidia in the market, which means it's in arguably the best position to chip away at Nvidia's lead. And that seems to be exactly what AMD is trying to do.
Late last year, AMD signed an agreement with OpenAI that will see it supply the AI start-up with hundreds of thousands of chips and allow OpenAI to buy up to a 10% stake in AMD. AMD expects the agreement to generate more than $100 billion in revenue from OpenAI alone.
But the deals didn't stop there. In February of this year, AMD signed another agreement with Meta Platforms to provide it with 6 gigawatts of its Instinct GPUs.
Along with those two, Microsoft and Oracle have both announced that they will purchase AMD's hardware. It's far from exclusive, and both companies are likely to continue buying plenty from Nvidia, but it will help AMD gain market share.
All signs point to AMD gaining traction in the industry. It will likely be some time before AMD threatens Nvidia's dominance, if it can manage to do so in the first place. But an investment in AMD can help diversify your GPU investment portfolio, and with the company's latest results, it's looking like a serious growth prospect.
For 2025, AMD brought in $34.6 billion, up 34% over 2024, and its diluted earnings per share (EPS) grew 26% over the same period. While AMD's net margin is lower than Nvidia's at 12.3% and 55.6%, respectively, AMD's is still solid, which likely has a lot to do with pricing.
The reason AMD is shaping up to be a competitor to Nvidia is that, at least on the consumer side, its GPUs offer comparable performance to their Nvidia counterparts while costing considerably less.
All other things being equal, lower prices generally equal lower margins. But if AMD's hardware is good enough, it can snatch some market share away from Nvidia even if Nvidia's hardware is superior in some ways.
That's AMD's avenue of attack to gain market share over Nvidia, and it seems to be working based on the deals the company is locking in. It could pay to have shares of both companies in your portfolio to hedge your AI hardware bet.

Many of the top tech companies in the world have announced massive increases in their capital expenditure (capex) for 2026 to pay for data center infrastructure.

Amazon announced it planned to spend $200 billion in 2026, $50 billion more than analysts anticipated. Alphabet, Google's parent company, anticipates its capex to double this year.
The infrastructure these and many other companies need to achieve their artificial intelligence (AI) goals is not cheap.
The following two companies ought to be two of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI spending spree set to happen this year.
King of the hill
It should come as no surprise that Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) is set to profit from a massive boost in IT spending.
According to IOT Analytics, Nvidia controls 92% of the data center graphics processing unit (GPU) market. Its next-largest competitor is Advanced Micro Devices, which controls 4% of the market.
While anything in business is subject to change, right now and for the foreseeable future, Nvidia is the GPU kingpin and all the big AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and more need Nvidia's hardware.
Even Alphabet still needs Nvidia hardware, despite its competing tensor processing unit (TPU) that Google Gemini is optimized for.
Nvidia's GPUs are so powerful and so critical to AI that they have become the subject of diplomatic negotiations between global superpowers like the U.S. and China.
It's the Nvidia Blackwell chip in particular that has become a major sticking point in relations between the two countries. The U.S. banned the export of the chip to China but there are indicators that DeepSeek, a Chinese AI start-up, trained its latest model on Nvidia hardware despite that ban.
Whether the report is true and how China got hold of Blackwell hardware is anyone's guess, but it highlights how in-demand Nvidia's products are.
Though, Nvidia's bottom line was already doing a good job showing that.
Per the company's Q4 and full fiscal 2026 results (reported February 25, 2026), Nvidia saw its full-year revenue total a record $215.9 billion, up 65% over its fiscal 2025.
For the quarter, data center revenue came in at $62.3 billion, up 22% over Q3 2026 and 75% over Q4 2025. It also made up the bulk of the $68.1 billion in revenue Nvidia brought in for the quarter.
To top it off, Nvidia runs a net profit margin of 55.6% and has a healthy balance sheet with a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.07.
With numbers like that, I don't see Nvidia's reign coming to an end anytime soon.
Cyberspace for rent
While new data centers are springing up incredibly fast, not every company has Amazon or Alphabet money to build their own, nor does every company need an entire data center.
That's precisely why Equinix (NASDAQ: EQIX) exists. It's a data center real estate investment trust (REIT) that rents space in its 280 data centers in 36 countries around the world to over 10,500 companies, including 310 of the Fortune 500.
And it's the rent Equinix collects that provides the bulk of its revenue. But the company can also facilitate a direct connection between one of its tenants and any of the major cloud networks.
Equinix partners with Microsoft Azure, Amazon's AWS, Google's Cloud, and more. And Equinix's data centers have access to direct hardware connections to all of those clouds.
Using either a physical or virtual connection, any of Equinix's tenants can get a private connection with the network of their choice, offering a faster and more secure way to use cloud infrastructure.
It's a pretty lucrative deal for both Equinix and its investors. As a REIT, Equinix must pay out 90% of its taxable income as a dividend to its shareholders. At present, that dividend yields 2% and the company has increased it for 11 years running.
From 2024 to 2025, it raised the dividend 10% and it's planning to do the same thing in 2026. It's not a particularly tall order as the company's adjusted funds from operations (AFFO) grew 12% year over year in 2025 on the back of 5% revenue growth for the year.
While Nvidia could help you profit from all the companies building their own data centers, Equinix allows you to profit from all those that can't.
Put the two together and you give your portfolio exposure to a good chunk of the $6 trillion in IT spending projected for this year.

IT Spending Will Exceed $6 Trillion for the First Time in 2026 Thanks to Artificial Intelligence (AI). Here's How to Invest.

The company has been growing fast and is projecting further rapid growth through 2029.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said last year that as much as 30% of Microsoft's code was being written by artificial intelligence (AI). I can only imagine that number is higher now.
Humans are still definitely needed to maintain quality, a fact proved by Microsoft appointing Charlie Bell, former head of the company's security business, to now focus exclusively on maintaining the quality of the company's products. He reports directly to Nadella.

Microsoft clearly doesn't plan on cutting the amount of its code written by AI. Nadella himself said it was steadily increasing, and CTO Kevin Scott predicted that by 2030, 95% of the company's code might be written by AI.
With that in mind, what is the best way to play AI becoming a permanent part of the IT industry? By my math, one of the best single-ticker ways to play it is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE: TSM).
Small island, big footprint
Taiwan is where a full 60% of all the world's semiconductor chips are produced.
But the country's footprint is even bigger than that implies because 90% of the world's advanced semiconductor chips, those 7 nanometers (nm) or smaller, are produced in Taiwan.
And those are the chips you need to run the high-end AI programs Microsoft and others are using to write their code.
Microsoft uses a lot of Nvidia hardware to run its AI. So does pretty much everyone else. IOT Analytics reports that Nvidia controls 92% of the data center GPU market. Its nearest competitor is Advanced Micro Devices at 4%.
But those Nvidia graphics processor units (GPUs) are manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor. So are its competitor AMD's, along with Apple, Broadcom, Qualcomm and others, either in whole or in part.
In fact, Nvidia's top-of-the-line Blackwell chip is produced at a Taiwan Semiconductor factory in Arizona.
Creating an even bigger footprint
The semiconductor chip market, and by extension the AI data center hardware market, simply does not exist without Taiwan Semiconductor, which doesn't design any of the chips it produces.
Taiwan Semiconductor is a "pure foundry" company. All it does is produce chips on contract. But it's utterly dominant in the space, with 72% market share as of Q3 2025. Samsung is in second place with 7%.
You've heard of pick-and-shovel plays, I'm sure. But Taiwan Semiconductor is the pick-and-shovel play for the AI industry and the tech industry more broadly.
And the company is expanding its footprint beyond Taiwan to build up its global dominance. The semiconductor factory in Arizona I mentioned is being expanded by Taiwan Semiconductor to produce more chips in the U.S., and ultimately the company plans to have six factories and two advanced packaging facilities in the state.Taiwan Semiconductor also has plans drawn up to expand its manufacturing footprint in Japan and Germany.
And all that expansion is not coming at the cost of the company's bottom line, which remains incredibly healthy.
Trillion-dollar baby
Right now, Taiwan Semiconductor is one of only two non-American companies with a market cap of $1 trillion or more. Its latest results reflect its size and influence well.
2025 saw the company's revenue top $122.4 billion, an increase of 35.9% over 2024. Its diluted earnings per share (EPS) grew 46.4%. Taiwan Semiconductor also maintains stellar profitability with a 45% net profit margin.
The company is also projecting 30% revenue growth for 2026 and a revenue compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25% through 2029.
Finally, Taiwan Semiconductor is trading at a price-to-earnings-to growth (PEG) ratio of 1.2 right now, which means it's very close to fair value relative to future earnings projections.
Put all that together, and you have a solid long-term buy-and-hold prospect from the one-ticker pick-and-shovel play of the entire global tech industry.
And if Microsoft wants to generate 95% of its code with AI by 2030, it's going to need a lot more hardware, which Taiwan Semiconductor will gladly produce, and in all likelihood continue its growth streak moving forward.

Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA), a leading GPU and AI platform provider, closed Friday at $180.25, down 1.58%. The stock moved as traders positioned around expectations for next week’s GTC 2026 conference and ongoing demand signals for Blackwell and Vera Rubin AI chips. Investors will also be watching conference commentary on free cash flow potential and data center capacity.
Trading volume reached 159.7 million shares, coming in nearly 9.2% below its three-month average of 175.8 million shares. Nvidia IPO'd in 1999 and has grown 439,353% since going public.
How the markets moved today
The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) fell 0.61% to 6,632, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) lost 0.93% to finish at 22,105. Within semiconductors and semiconductor equipment, industry peers were mixed, as Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) closed at $193.39 (-2.20%) while Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) finished at $45.77 (+1.15%).
What this means for investors
Nvidia’s GTC (GPU Technology Conference) 2026 begins on Monday. The global AI summit brings together developers, researchers, and business leaders to delve into the future of AI innovation. Investors will be watching Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s keynote address for clues on demand as well as supply capacity for the company’s latest Vera Rubin AI data center platform.
Demand is expected to be strong, but analysts will also look for clues as to whether Nvidia’s investments directly with customers are fueling much of it. Markets have had some concern over so-called circular financing, but word of massive organic demand outside those funding investments could well trigger another leg higher for Nvidia stock.

Bull of the Day: Micron (MU)

Companies from Microsoft to Amazon have pledged to spend billions on AI infrastructure this year.
This is to meet soaring demand for capacity from their customers.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has already started to demonstrate its usefulness, driving efficiency, cost savings, and innovation at companies. Some investors bet on this market early and have won big as certain companies developing or using AI have seen their revenue and stock prices soar. In fact, AI has been a huge driver of market performance over the past few years, helping the S&P 500 climb 78% over three years.
And though momentum has slowed these days amid general market volatility and concerns about the war in Iran, I don't believe the AI story is over. Tech giants are spending big to ramp up infrastructure to meet demand. And my prediction is that the following AI stock will be the biggest winner of the $660+ billion capital spending boom.

Heading toward $4 trillion
So, first, a quick look at the spending that's happening now and into the future. This year alone, tech giants including Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta Platforms have pledged to spend more than $660 billion on the build-out of AI infrastructure. Jensen Huang, chief executive officer of AI chip powerhouse Nvidia, has predicted that AI infrastructure spending by the end of the decade may reach as much as $4 trillion.
This involves building out data centers, furnishing them with the elements they need to do the AI job, from chips to data storage, cables, and networking equipment. A number of companies are well-positioned to benefit from this movement, but the biggest winner of all may be a company that works closely with not one, but all of the top chip designers.
I'm talking about Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE: TSM). While companies such as Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices design top chips for AI, they don't actually produce them. Instead, they turn to TSMC to do that job. This means that TSMC doesn't just benefit from the gains of one chip designer but from the gains of many.
The AI boom continues
And this is a great spot to be in as the AI boom marches on. That's because all of the major chip designers have been speaking of strong demand in recent quarters, and this is likely to continue, considering the current and potential uses for AI. As companies aim to build AI platforms, they will need the compute to do so and therefore will turn to chip designers -- and that creates business for TSMC.
In the latest earnings report, the chip manufacturer delivered double-digit revenue growth and said it believed in the long-term AI growth story due to the trends it's observed. All of this supports my prediction that TSMC will be the biggest winner of this AI infrastructure spending boom.

Prediction: This Artificial Intelligence (AI) Stock Will Be the Biggest Winner of the $660+ Billion Capex Boom

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Thursday closed down -1.52%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) closed down -1.56%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed down -1.73%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) fell -1.49%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) fell -1.75%.
Stocks fell sharply on Thursday as a surge in crude oil prices stoked fears that the war against Iran would crimp global fuel supplies and boost inflation. WTI crude oil prices soared more than +9% on Thursday amid widening disruptions to crude production and transport in the Middle East.

Stocks extended their losses on Thursday, and crude prices added to their gains on comments from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who said that Iran’s leverage of closing the Strait of Hormuz should be used, and attacks on Gulf Arab neighbors will continue. He added that Iran will open unspecified “other fronts” in the war if the US and Israel persist with their attacks. Also, comments from President Trump gave crude prices a boost when he said that preventing Iran from having nuclear weapons is "of far greater interest and importance" to him than the cost of oil, a sign that the war in the Middle East isn't close to a de-escalation.
Credit concerns weighed on bank stocks and asset managers on Thursday after Morgan Stanley and Cliffwater LLC capped withdrawals from their private credit funds amid investor demand to redeem more than the funds allow. Private credit funds are grappling with a wave of redemption requests amid growing concerns over the quality of their loans. BlackRock last week decided to limit withdrawals, a move that other asset managers have since followed.
Crude oil prices rallied sharply on Thursday despite the IEA members' decision on Wednesday to release 400 million barrels from emergency oil stockpiles. The IEA said the war against Iran is disrupting 7.5% of global oil supply, and the conflict will cut global oil supply by 8 million bpd this month. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas flows, has choked off oil and gas flows due to Iran’s attacks on shipping in the waterway and forced Gulf producers to cut output because they can’t export from the region. UK Defense Secretary Healey said Thursday that it is increasingly evident that Iran is laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, which could keep the strait closed for the foreseeable future.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country would need “firm international guarantees against future aggression” to accept a ceasefire as well as reparations. However, comments from President Trump late Wednesday suggest the conflict could continue for weeks when he said that it would be unwise for the US to wind down hostilities too soon.
US economic news on Thursday was mixed for stocks after weekly jobless claims rose less than expected, a sign of labor market strength. Also, Jan housing starts unexpectedly rose to an 11-month high, but Jan building permits fell to a 5-month low.
US weekly initial unemployment claims fell -1,000 to 213,000, showing a stronger labor market than expectations of an increase to 215,000.
US Jan housing starts unexpectedly rose +7.2% m/m to an 11-month high of 1.487 million, stronger than expectations of a decline to 1.341 million. Jan building permits, a proxy for future construction, fell -5.4% m/m to a 5-month low of 1.376 million, weaker than expectations of 1.410 million.
The US Jan trade deficit shrank to -$54.5 billion, narrower than expectations of -$66.0 billion.
Q4 earnings season is nearly over, with more than 98% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 74% of the 495 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 0% chance for a -25 bp FOMC rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets settled lower on Thursday. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed down -0.79%. China's Shanghai Composite fell from a 1-week high and closed down -0.10%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -1.04%.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) on Thursday closed down by -18.5 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield rose +3.9 bp to 4.269%. June T-notes fell to a 5-week low on Thursday, and the 10-year T-note yield climbed to a 5-week high of 4.275%. Thursday’s +9% rally in oil prices raised inflation expectations and undercut T-note prices. Also, concerns that the cost of the ongoing war against Iran will boost the US budget deficit are bearish for T-notes. On the positive side for T-notes on Thursday was strong demand for the Treasury’s $22 billion auction of 30-year T-bonds that had a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.45, above the 10-auction average of 2.39.
European government bond yields moved higher on Thursday. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 2.25-year high of 2.962% and finished up +2.5 bp to 2.957%. The 10-year UK gilt yield climbed to a 6.25-month high of 4.800% and finished up +8.7 bp to 4.773%.
The European Union's economy chief, Valdis Dombrovskis, said the inflation rate could surpass 3% this year, and GDP in the Eurozone could be as much as -0.4 points lower if the war in the Middle East causes crude oil prices to remain around $100 per barrel and gas prices stay elevated for an extended period.
Swaps are discounting a 3% chance of a -25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
Airline stocks and cruise line operators sold off on Thursday amid a 9% surge in crude oil prices, which are boosting companies’ fuel costs and threatening earnings. Carnival (CCL) and Southwest Airlines (LUV) closed down more than -7%, and Alaska Air Group (ALK) and Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL) closed down more than -6%. Also, United Airlines Holdings (UAL), Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH), and American Airlines Group (AAL) closed down more than -4%. In addition, Delta Airlines (DAL) closed down more than -2%.
Chip stocks retreated on Thursday, weighing on the broader market. Intel (INTC) closed down more than -5%, and Lam Research (LRCX), ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), Microchip Technology (MCHP), and Texas Instruments (TXN) closed down more than -4%. Also, Applied Materials (AMAT), KLA Corp (KLAC), Analog Devices (ADI), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Micron Technology (MU), and Marvell Technology (MRVL) closed down more than -3%.

Also, Alphabet (GOOGL), Apple (AAPL), Amazon.com (AMZN), and Nvidia (NVDA) closed down more than -1%, and Microsoft (MSFT) closed down -0.73%.
Fertilizer stocks rallied on Thursday amid supply disruptions from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. CF Industries Holdings (CF) closed up more than +13% to lead gainers in the S&P 500. Also, Intrepid Potash (IPI) closed up more than +10%, and Mosaic (MOS) closed up more than +7%.
Energy producers and service providers rose on Thursday after crude prices jumped more than +9%. ConocoPhillips (COP), Chevron (CVX), Phillips 66 (PSX), and Valero Energy (VLO) closed up more than -2%. Also, APA Corp (APA), Devon Energy (DVN), Exxon Mobil (XOM), and Marathon Petroleum (MPC) closed up more than +1%.
Netskope (NTSK) closed down more than -21% after forecasting a Q1 adjusted net loss per share of -6 cents to -7 cents, wider than Q4’s -4 cent EPS loss.
G-III Apparel Group Ltd (GIII) closed down more than -11% after reporting Q4 net sales of $771.5 million, below the consensus of $791.8 million.
UiPath (PATH) closed down more than -7% after reporting Q4 subscription revenue of $251.2 million, below the consensus of $252.1 million.
Dollar General (DG) closed down more than -6% after giving an underwhelming 2027 comparable sales forecast of up +2.2% to +2.7%, the midpoint right on the consensus of +2.45%.
GlobalFoundries (GFS) closed down more than -5% after a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Co. was said to sell as much as $852 million of its stake in the stock overnight at $41.60 to $42.60 per share.
MercadoLibre (MELI) closed down more than -4% after JPMorgan Chase downgraded the stock to neutral from overweight.
LyondellBasell Industries NV (LYB) closed up more than +10% after Citigroup upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $76.
Dow Inc. (DOW) closed up more than +9% after Citigroup upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $40.
Occidental Petroleum (OXY) closed up more than +5% after Wells Fargo Securities double upgraded the stock to overweight from underweight with a price target of $69.

Stocks Retreat Amid Rising Crude Prices and Credit Worries

Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) have been trailing Nvidia in the artificial intelligence (AI) chip market in recent years. Still, both companies are now experiencing a nice uptick in their growth thanks to their growing influence in this market.
As it turns out, both chip designers have outperformed Nvidia stock in the past year. While Broadcom has jumped 69% over this period, AMD has logged stronger gains of 92%. But if you had to choose either AMD or Broadcom for your portfolio right now, which one would be the better bet?

The case for Broadcom
Broadcom dominates the custom AI processor market with an estimated share of 60% to 80%. These custom processors, known as application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), are in terrific demand from hyperscalers and AI companies looking to reduce reliance on Nvidia, achieve significant cost reductions, and speed up performance while keeping power consumption in check.
Market research firm TrendForce expects ASICs to account for 27.8% of AI server chips this year, up from 20.9% in 2025. Broadcom is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the growing ASIC adoption. It reported a 106% year-over-year jump in AI revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2026 (which ended on Feb. 1).
This outstanding growth was driven by Broadcom's impressive clientele, which includes Alphabet, Meta Platforms, Anthropic, and OpenAI. Broadcom points out that it has six AI customers in total, and all of them are poised to significantly accelerate the deployment of its custom chips next year. Anthropic, for example, is expected to triple the deployment of Broadcom's ASICs next year to 3 gigawatts (GW). Similarly, Meta Platforms is estimated to scale the deployment of Broadcom's processors to multiple gigawatts next year.
Such impressive customer momentum explains why Broadcom is confident of achieving $100 billion in AI revenue in 2027. That would be a massive increase over the $20 billion in AI revenue it delivered in the previous fiscal year. Not surprisingly, analysts have hiked their growth expectations for Broadcom following its latest report.
So, there is a solid chance of this AI stock sustaining its healthy momentum and delivering more upside to investors.
The case for AMD
AMD makes both central processing units (CPUs) and GPUs that are used in computers, data centers, and gaming consoles. The company, however, has been playing second fiddle to Nvidia in the data center GPU market. But CEO Lisa Su is confident the company can achieve a double-digit market share in this space over the next three to five years.
Importantly, AMD's data center revenue is now growing at a healthy clip, suggesting that it is indeed on track to improve its position in this lucrative market. The company reported $16.6 billion in data center revenue for 2025, up by 32% from the prior year.
AMD credited this solid growth to the growing adoption of its Instinct data center GPUs. Looking ahead, the Instinct processors should continue to drive stronger growth in AMD's data center business, especially considering that it has secured multibillion-dollar deals with multiple customers. Meta Platforms, for instance, is poised to deploy up to 6 GW of its Instinct GPUs.
This contract could give AMD a massive boost in the long run. Additionally, it already has a deal in place with OpenAI to deploy 6 GW of chips to help the latter build more computing capacity. This deal is poised to kick off in the second half of 2026. Moreover, there are additional catalysts in AMD's bag, such as the growth of the AI-focused personal computer market and its growing influence in AI server CPUs.
As such, it is easy to see why analysts are forecasting a 59% increase in AMD's earnings this year to $6.64 per share. The good news is that its bottom-line growth is poised to remain solid over the next two years as well.
The verdict
Both AMD and Broadcom are growing at solid rates, and they are likely to sustain their momentum in the future thanks to the secular growth of the AI chip market. That's why investors should take a closer look at their valuations before deciding which one of these AI stocks is worth investing in.
Though there isn't much difference between their forward earnings multiples, AMD's sales multiple of 9 is significantly lower than Broadcom's 24. Still, the exponential growth that Broadcom could deliver in its AI revenue by next year could help justify the huge premium. As such, investors can't go much wrong if they invest in either of these semiconductor companies since both of them are positioned to grow impressively in the future.
