Why I Keep Buying More Shares of This Amazing Artificial Intelligence (AI) Chip Stock for 2026

Intel stock soared following investments from the U.S. government and Nvidia.

The world's leading chip manufacturer, TSMC, continues to deliver strong results and is affordably priced.
After years of lagging the market, Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) has suddenly found new life.
The stock has more than doubled over the last six months, even after its sharp pullback following disappointing guidance in its fourth-quarter earnings report.

Intel has rebounded with the help of the U.S. government, which took a 9.9% stake in the stock last August, which was followed by Nvidia investing $5 billion in the chip-maker in September.
Both moves gave Intel much-needed capital to continue investing in its foundry business and to develop new AI products. It also showed confidence in the company's turnaround prospects under new CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who has cut costs, streamlined the business, scaled back on capital expenditures, and is aiming to overhaul the culture, making it less bureaucratic and more like a start-up.
However, the recent pullback on its earnings report shows that the stock may be overbought and that expectations seem to have outrun the current reality of the business. Intel is still struggling to grow and turn a profit. Revenue fell 4% in the fourth quarter to $13.7 billion, and it reported a generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) loss of $591 million, though it was profitable on an adjusted basis.
For the first quarter, it expects revenue of $11.7 billion-$12.7 billion, which is a sharp sequential decline, and sees adjusted earnings per share of just break-even.
For investors looking to capitalize on the AI infrastructure boom, there's a more reliable stock to buy here. In fact, it's a chief rival of Intel. I'm talking about Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (NYSE: TSM), the world's leading contract manufacturer of semiconductors.
A track record of excellence
TSMC, as the company is often known, isn't a household name like Intel. It doesn't make branded products, and it's based in Taiwan rather than the U.S.
However, the company is one of the most valuable in the world at a market cap of $1.8 trillion, and it's a linchpin in the global economy as it's the primary chip manufacturer for tech titans like Apple, Nvidia, AMD, Broadcom, and others. It manufactures more than half of the contract chips in the world and is estimated to account for 90% of the advanced contract chips.
That gives it a strong competitive advantage, and its results back that up as it's turned in phenomenal growth and profit margins during the AI boom.
In its fourth quarter, revenue rose 25.5% to $33.7 billion, and it reported an operating margin of 54%, or $18.2 billion in operating income.
TSMC now makes 77% of its revenue from advanced chips, which it defines as those that are 7 nanometers (nm) or less. The stock also trades at an attractive valuation at a price-to-earnings ratio of 32, making it only slightly more expensive than the S&P 500. Historically, the stock has traded at a discount because it's based in Taiwan and some investors fear that China could invade the island territory.
TSMC stock has also been a longtime winner on the stock market, up more than 1,000% over the last decade.
Intel vs. TSMC
Intel operates in two primary segments: its products division, which refers to its chip designs, and its foundry division, which is focused on manufacturing. Historically, the company has manufactured chips solely for itself, but it restructured its business in 2021 to open its foundry to outside customers and has signed up some new customers, including Amazon.
Intel has staked the future of the foundry business on advanced processes like 18A (18 angstroms or 1.8nm), which it recently launched. 18A and the upcoming 14A, which is expected to enter production in 2028, have the potential to make Intel a real competitor to TSMC. However, a meaningful challenge from Intel is likely years away, and Intel has been losing billions of dollars a year on the foundry business as it builds out advanced processes in an attempt to establish a third-party manufacturing business.
At this point, Intel stock is more expensive than TSMC, even though its revenue is basically flat and it's losing money on a GAAP basis. TSMC, on the other hand, expects to grow revenue by a compound annual rate of around 25% through 2029, and it's currently keeping more than half of its revenue as operating income.
While Intel's turnaround may be appealing as a story, TSMC is the much safer bet here and should continue to beat the market as long as the AI boom continues.

Nvidia's (NASDAQ: NVDA) stock surged 26,960% over the past decade. Much of that growth was driven by the soaring popularity of artificial intelligence (AI) applications. Nvidia's discrete GPUs, which were once mainly used to render graphics in video games, were well-suited to handle complex AI applications because they could simultaneously process parallel tasks. That set them apart from CPUs, which were optimized for processing sequential tasks.
Some investors might be reluctant to chase Nvidia's stock after those massive gains. However, a single catalyst could drive its stock even higher in 2026: skyrocketing demand for AI infrastructure upgrades to support the latest AI applications.

Why would that trend drive Nvidia's stock higher?
The global AI infrastructure market could expand at a CAGR of 29.1% from 2025 to 2032, according to Fortune Business Insights, as more data centers upgrade their AI chips. Nvidia already controls more than 90% of the discrete GPU market, according to Carbon Credits. It maintained its lead in the booming data center market through AI-oriented architecture upgrades, including Turing (2019), Ampere (2020), Hopper (2022), and Blackwell (2024).
Nvidia also locks in its customers with CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture), its proprietary programming platform optimized for its own chips. It also bundles its chips with its own networking products, software, and services to further widen its moat. Most of the world's top AI companies -- including Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), OpenAI, and Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) -- have spent billions of dollars on Nvidia's data center chips.
Nvidia faces some competition from AMD's (NASDAQ: AMD) cheaper data center GPUs and Broadcom's (NASDAQ: AVGO) custom AI accelerators for hyperscalers. Still, there could be plenty of room for all of these leading AI chipmakers to grow without stepping on each other's toes. Moreover, Nvidia's "best in breed" reputation, the speed of its deployments, and the stickiness of its prisoner-taking ecosystem should make it the preferred chipmaker for most AI companies. Simply put, Nvidia should continue to sell the best picks and shovels for general-purpose AI applications and remain a linchpin of the AI infrastructure market.
From fiscal 2025 (which ended last January) to fiscal 2028, analysts expect Nvidia's revenue and earnings per share (EPS) to grow at CAGRs of 47% and 45%, respectively. Those are exceptional growth rates for a stock that trades at 27 times next year's earnings, and it should remain one of the simplest ways to profit from the AI market's long-term growth.

1 Reason Nvidia Stock Could Surge in 2026

Intel (NASDAQ:INTC), designs and manufactures microprocessors and related technologies, closed Wednesday at $48.78, up 11.04%. The stock moved higher after reports of prospective Nvidia and Apple foundry deals and insider buying. Investors are watching whether these partnerships can offset earlier concerns about Intel’s 2026 outlook.
Trading volume reached 200 million shares, about 107% above its three-month average of 96 million shares. Intel IPO'd in 1980 and has grown 14,885% since going public.
How the markets moved today
S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) slipped 0.01% to 6,978, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) rose 0.17% to 23,857. Within semiconductors, industry peers Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) closed at $252.74 (up 0.28%) and Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) finished at $191.52 (up 1.59%), trailing Intel’s sharper rebound.
What this means for investors
Intel’s market move today can be mostly attributed to a pre-market report suggesting that Nvidia and Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) may shift some of their 2028 chip production to Intel. While the highest-end chips will still be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (NYSE:TSM), any business shifting to Intel is good news for its foundry ambitions. Other news about Intel’s CEO buying stock and a high price target from an analyst likely added to the stock’s great day.
Despite today’s good news, it’s worth remembering that Intel’s shares have still not recovered from their double-digit fall after last week’s Q4 2025 earnings report that showed a $300 million GAAP loss and ongoing supply constraints.

Stonebridge Dumps 308,000 AIQ Shares Worth $15.6 Million

One of the most interesting stocks in the artificial intelligence (AI) space is AMD (NASDAQ: AMD). Its technology isn't as good as that of its chief rival in the graphics processing unit (GPU) business, Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA). However, it is making some advancements, and its AI accelerators could come to be more widely viewed as viable alternatives to the market leader's wares, especially if Nvidia charges too high a premium for its latest platforms.
We'll get some additional clarity on the direction AMD is moving on Feb. 3, when it reports its fourth-quarter results and provides its 2026 outlook. Management has already outlined what it sees as its five-year growth track, and that forecast is quite impressive. But if the company looks like it's on course to meet those expectations, the stock could soar following the report.

AMD's results haven't been that spectacular
It's impossible to talk about AMD without comparing it to Nvidia. AMD takes a more diversified approach to the chip design business: Its sales are split roughly 50-50 between its data center segment (which is where nearly all AI spending is going) and its non-data center segment. While revenue diversification may be considered a good thing under many circumstances, when the tech world is in the middle of a once-in-a-generation boom of computing infrastructure spending, it's better to be highly leveraged toward that trend. Nvidia has taken that to the extreme: About 90% of its revenue comes from data centers.
Furthermore, data center spending is expected to grow through at least 2030. AMD also believes in this trend, and it projects its data center division will grow at an outstanding 60% compounded annual rate through 2030. However, AMD has a long way to go to turn that projection into a reality.
In Q3, AMD's data center revenue growth was 22% year over year. That's not even close to what AMD expects to deliver over the next five years.
What to look for going forward
With that in mind, I'll be looking for some strong statements from management regarding its 2026 outlook and the potential for a reacceleration from the data center division. If management provides upbeat guidance, I have no doubt the stock will soar. But if it is a bit hesitant to give 2026 guidance similar to its five-year outlook, the market may start to look at AMD with suspicion.
Right now, AMD stock trades at a premium valuation of 40 times expected 2026 earnings. That's a significantly higher forward P/E than most AI hyperscalers, and also higher than Nvidia, which trades at 24 times its expected earnings for its fiscal 2027, which ends in January 2027.
AMD will need to justify that premium through strong growth and expanding margins. It hasn't done so of late, but management believes that the company is ready to turn the corner. We'll see on Feb. 3 if the prior projections pan out. If they do, investors should be ready for the stock to soar.

Prediction: AMD Stock Will Soar on Feb. 3

On Tuesday, Micron Technology, Inc.’s MU shares climbed 5.4% after it announced plans to invest about $24 billion to build a new advanced memory chip fabrication facility in Singapore, reinforcing its long-term growth strategy. The investment highlights Micron’s confidence in sustained demand for memory solutions and its intent to secure additional capacity ahead of the next upcycle in the semiconductor market.
The new facility will expand Micron’s manufacturing footprint within its existing Singapore operations and is expected to come online later in the decade. For investors, the move signals a disciplined but forward-looking capital allocation approach aimed at strengthening supply resilience and improving Micron’s competitive positioning in advanced memory technologies.
A key driver behind this expansion is the sharp rise in AI and data-center demand. AI workloads, particularly generative AI and large-scale model training, require enormous amounts of high-performance memory to process data efficiently. At the same time, hyperscale data centers continue to expand to support cloud computing, enterprise AI adoption and real-time analytics. This combination has pushed memory demand higher and reduced visibility on future supply, setting the stage for structurally tighter markets over the coming years.
By adding advanced capacity now, Micron is positioning itself to benefit as AI-driven infrastructure spending accelerates. Memory is becoming a critical performance bottleneck in AI systems, and suppliers with scale and advanced process capabilities stand to gain pricing power when demand outpaces supply.
Micron is part of the Zacks Computer – Integrated Systems industry. Over the past 12 months, its shares have surged 360.9% compared with a 115% rise for the industry. Seagate Technology Holdings plc STX and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. AMD, two of its peers from the same industry, have moved up 274% and 114.7%, respectively, in the same period. Micron Bets Big on Memory Growth With $24B Singapore Expansion

Once upon a time, Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) reigned as the king of chipmakers. However, the tech giant no longer sits on the throne. Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) took its spot.
That's not even the worst news for Intel. The company isn't the top contender against Nvidia. Instead, another agile chip challenger looks far better positioned for the next wave of growth in the artificial intelligence (AI) market – Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD).

A comeback interrupted
Until recently, a strong argument could be made that Intel was gaining ground. New CEO Lip-Bu Tan wrote to employees in March 2025 about seizing "an opportunity to fundamentally reinvent an industry icon." Intel made progress toward building a world-class foundry. The company unveiled its Panther Lake architecture, the first platform for AI personal computer chips built on Intel's 18A technology.
Intel's stock performance also looked promising. Shares soared 84% in 2025 and vaulted more than 45% higher during the first few weeks of 2026. However, Intel's stock momentum screeched to a halt last week, with shares sinking more than 20%.
The company reported a 4% year-over-year decline in revenue in the fourth quarter of 2025. Intel expects even further revenue erosion in the first quarter of 2026. The harsh reality is that only a few years ago, Intel held a commanding 85% to 95% market share of the server CPU market. Two quarters ago, Tan revealed that this percentage had fallen to around 55%.
Those results don't further the turnaround story Tan envisioned when he became Intel's CEO last year. He hoped to "pull off a comeback that will be studied in business schools for generations to come." Perhaps that goal will still be achieved, but AMD could make things difficult for Intel
On the rise
AMD continues to gain server CPU market share at Intel's expense. It's a similar story in the desktop CPU market.
The company believes it's on track to capture the lead in the server CPU market, thanks to the popularity of its EPYC processors. In particular, AMD's next-generation EPYC Venice CPUs have a tremendous opportunity as AI adoption drives greater demand for CPUs.
However, AMD isn't only challenging Intel. The company is also Nvidia's biggest competitor in the GPU market. The Instinct MI350 Series GPU lineup is the fastest ramping product in AMD's history. AMD hopes to gain even more market momentum with its MI450 Series, expected to launch later this year. It also plans to expand its leadership in the adaptive computing market and capture a market share of over 70%.
AMD is targeting a revenue compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 80% over the next three to five years. The company expects an overall revenue CAGR of more than 35%.
While Intel's stock momentum has faltered in recent days, AMD is forging ahead. The consensus Wall Street 12-month price target reflects a potential upside of around 14%.
Agility wins in the AI era
The contrast between these two rivals is striking. Intel's revenue is declining; AMD's revenue is soaring. Intel is losing market share; AMD is gaining market share – on multiple fronts. Intel is hoping for a comeback; AMD is continuing a well-planned challenge to the chip industry's top dog, Nvidia.
I think the key lesson from the tale of these two chipmakers is that agility wins in the AI era. AMD moved quickly to develop CPUs and GPUs to serve a rapidly evolving market that was dominated by AI.
This tale won't necessarily end with one big winner and one big loser. It's possible that both Intel and AMD could deliver market-beating gains for investors over the next few years. However, if you're looking for the stock with the greater likelihood of success, I think the smart money will be on AMD.
