Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. operates as a semiconductor company worldwide. It operates through Data Center, Client, Gaming, and Embedded segments. The company offers x86 microprocessors and graphics processing units (GPUs) as an accelerated processing unit, chipsets, data center, and professional GPUs; and embedded processors, and semi-custom system-on-chip (SoC) products, microprocessor and SoC development services and technology, data processing unites, field programmable gate arrays (FPGA), and adaptive SoC products. It provides processors under the AMD Ryzen, AMD Ryzen PRO, Ryzen Threadripper, Ryzen Threadripper PRO, AMD Athlon, AMD Athlon PRO, and AMD PRO A-Series brand names; graphics under the AMD Radeon graphics and AMD Embedded Radeon graphics; and professional graphics under the AMD Radeon Pro graphics brand name. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. was incorporated in 1969 and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California.

AMD looks fundamentally strong in terms of balance sheet quality and profitability, but the market is already pricing in very high expectations. Revenue over TTM reached $10.25 billion, while net income and operating income remain positive and have increased compared with earlier periods, which supports the investment case. Net profit margin of 13.37% and operating margin of 11.65% are above the industry median, and ROA at 6.50% looks sustainable and close to the market average. At the same time, ROE of 8.08% and ROI of 7.76% do not look outstanding for such a rich valuation, so they do not provide grounds for an aggressive increase in the target price. Liquidity is comfortable: a current ratio of 2.73 and a quick ratio of 1.96 indicate a solid margin of safety, while debt/equity of 0.04 and a reduction in long-term debt to $2.35 billion point to low financial risk. On the other hand, the valuation multiples are extremely stretched: P/E of 177.34, P/S of 23.69, P/B of 13.68, and P/FCF of 103.98 are significantly above the industry median, which implies a meaningful premium for future growth. Such a premium is justified only if earnings and cash flow continue to accelerate, and the current trend shows improvement, but not enough to fully eliminate overvaluation risk. The absence of dividends means the focus is entirely on growth, so sensitivity to any slowdown in demand or margins remains high. Growth in assets, equity, and cash position supports the valuation, but by itself does not offset such expensive multiples. Overall, the fundamentals confirm the quality of the business more than they justify further multiple expansion, so a moderate conservative downward adjustment is appropriate. For an investor, this means AMD remains a strong growth story, but the current price already reflects an optimistic scenario to a large extent.

AMD is strong in terms of margins, liquidity, and earnings growth, but it trades at a very high valuation premium on multiples, so the assessment requires moderate conservatism.

Stock indexes retreated on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 sliding to a 1-month low and the Nasdaq 100 sinking to a 3-month low. Chipmakers and AI infrastructure stocks sold off on Wednesday, leading the overall market lower. Also, heightened geopolitical risks are weighing on stocks as crude prices surged, and bond yields jumped when President Trump said the US will “hit Iran hard” after a recent attack from Iran that targeted a US base in Jordan.

Stocks whipsawed Wednesday afternoon and briefly erased their losses before selling off again into the close after the FOMC kept interest rates unchanged in a hawkish Fed hold. Three Fed members dissented in favor of a quarter-point rate hike, and Fed Chair Warsh said the Fed is committed to “deliver price stability.” The 10-year T-note yield rose +4 bp to 4.64%.
Earnings results from Microsoft and Meta Platforms after Wednesday’s close will be looked at to see whether the vast spending behind the buildout of artificial intelligence can deliver adequate returns.
The FOMC, as expected, kept the fed funds target range unchanged at 3.50% to 3.75% in a 9-3 vote, with Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari, and Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan voting for a quarter-point rate hike.
The post-FOMC statement said, "Economic activity is expanding at a solid pace despite elevated uncertainty that owes, in part, to the conflict in the Middle East," adding that "productivity growth and capital investment are strong." Inflation remains elevated "in part reflecting supply shocks that have driven price increases in certain sectors, including energy."
Fed Chair Warsh said, "The economy is showing impressive resilience" even with recent shocks and policymakers "will not hesitate to act" if inflation remains elevated.
Sep WTI crude oil prices (CLU26) jumped by more than +6% on Wednesday as the recent lull in hostilities came to an abrupt end after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it targeted a US airbase and command center in Jordan with ballistic missiles. The IRGC also claimed to have hit and halted three tankers attempting to transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the US and Saudi Arabia launched a joint attack on "Iran-aligned terrorists" in Iraq after the IRGC directed them to target US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.
Tensions remain high in the Middle East as the US maintains its blockade of Iranian oil shipments in the Persian Gulf. Also, diplomatic attempts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz appear to be at an impasse. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi said Oman's proposal for a route through the Strait of Hormuz, with 50% under Iran's control and 50% under Oman's, would not address Iran's concerns and that the inbound passage and part of the outbound channel must be entirely under Iran's control.
US MBA mortgage applications fell -6.4% in the week ended July 24, with the purchase mortgage sub-index down -3.6% and the refinancing mortgage sub-index down -9.9%. The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage rose +7 bp to an 11.5-month high of 6.76% from 6.69% the prior week.
The outlook for strong Q2 earnings, which continue this week, is a bullish factor for stocks. The markets are awaiting results from a raft of megacap technology companies this week, including Microsoft and Meta Platforms today, and Amazon.com and Apple on Thursday. Forecasts compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence suggest Q2 earnings may increase by +23%, close to Q1’s blowout earnings of +30%, which was more than double the +12% analysts had expected. AI spending is expected to account for most of earnings, with AI infrastructure stocks set to contribute nearly 60% of the S&P 500's earnings-per-share growth in Q2. So far, earnings results have been positive, with 87% of the 216 S&P 500 companies that have reported Q2 earnings beating estimates, according to Bloomberg data.
The markets are discounting a 56% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on September 15-16.
Overseas stock markets settled mixed on Wednesday. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed down -0.65%. China's Shanghai Composite rebounded from a 1-week low and closed up +0.40%. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average fell to a 2.25-month low and closed down -1.49%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) on Wednesday closed down -1 tick. The 10-year T-note yield rose +3.3 bp to 4.639%. T-notes were under pressure from Wednesday’s +6% surge in crude oil prices, which raises inflation expectations and is hawkish for Fed policy. Also, the FOMC's hawkish hold on interest rates weighed on T-note prices after three Fed members dissented in favor of a 25 bp rate hike, and Fed Chair Warsh said policymakers "will not hesitate to act" if inflation remains elevated.
European government bond yields moved higher on Wednesday. The 10-year German bund yield rose +5.6 bp to 3.160%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose +9.2 bp to 5.036%.
The German Jun import price index eased to 6.1% y/y from 6.8% y/y in May.
The markets are discounting a 90% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at their next policy meeting on September 10.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks fell sharply on Wednesday, weighing on the broader market. The Philadelphia Stock Exchange Semiconductor Index ($SOX) dropped to a 2.5-month low and closed down more than -5%. Nebius Group NV (NBIS) closed down more than -12% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100, and KLA Corp (KLAC) closed down more than -10%. Also, Micron Technology (MU) closed down more than -9%, and Applied Materials (AMAT) and ARM Holdings (ARM) closed down by more than -8%. In addition, Sandisk (SNDK) and NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) closed down more than -7%, and Marvell Technology (MRVL) and Lam Research (LRCX) closed down more than -6%. Finally, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Microchip Technology (MCHP), and Intel (INTC) closed down more than -5%.
Airline stocks fell on Wednesday as crude oil prices surged. Alaska Air Group (ALK) closed down more than -5%, and Southwest Airlines (LUV) closed down more than -4%. Also, Delta Air Lines (DAL), American Airlines Group (AAL), and United Airlines Holdings (UAL) closed down more than -3%.
Trucking and freight companies were under pressure on Wednesday amid soaring crude oil prices. ArcBest (ARCB) closed down more than -5%, and FedEx Freight Holding (FDXF) closed down more than -4%. Also, Saia Inc (SAIA) closed down more than -3%, and Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL) and XPO Inc (XPO) closed down more than -2%. In addition, Marten Transport Ltd (MRTN) closed down more than -1%.
Most software stocks rose on Wednesday as investors rotated out of chipmakers into software. Intuit (INTU) closed up more than +6%, and Adobe Systems (ADBE), Datadog (DDOG), and Workday (WDAY) closed up more than +5%. Also, Atlassian Corp (TEAM) and ServiceNow (NOW) closed up more than +4%, and Salesforce (CRM) closed up more than +3% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials. In addition, Autodesk (ADSK) closed up more than +3%, and Thomson Reuters (TRI) closed up more than +2%.
Energy producers and service providers rallied on Wednesday, as crude oil prices jumped by more than +6%. APA Corp (APA) closed up more than +5%, and Diamondback Energy (FANG) and Devon Energy (DVN) closed up more than +4%. Also, ConocoPhillips (COP) and Occidental Petroleum (OXY) closed up more than +3%, and ExxonMobil Holdings (XOM) and Chevron (CVX) closed up more than +2%.
Lennox International (LII) closed down more than -20% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q2 net sales of $1.55 billion, weaker than the consensus of $1.56 billion.
Vertiv Holdings (VRT) closed down more than -17% after reporting Q2 net sales of $3.27 billion, below the consensus of $3.39 billion.
Masco Corp (MAS) closed down more than -11% after reporting Q2 net sales of $1.99 billion, weaker than the consensus of $2.08 billion.
Caterpillar (CAT) closed down more than -6% to lead losers in the Dow Jones industrials after Baird downgraded the stock to neutral from outperform, citing a growing trend of state and local government actions targeting data centers, a key growth driver for the company.
Avis Budget Group (CAR) closed down more than -6% after reporting Q2 EPS of 98 cents, well below the consensus of $1.91.
Humana (HUM) closed down more than -5% after it maintained its full-year profit outlook despite posting better-than-expected Q2 profit.

Chip stocks have been crashing over concerns that the infrastructure building boom for artificial intelligence (AI) is not sustainable.
However, when some of the most brilliant minds in business are emptying their coffers to build AI data centers at a frantic pace, you can bet that they are getting strong returns on these investments and not just fruitlessly throwing money away, as some of the bears would have you believe.

Let's look at three semiconductor stocks to buy into this sell-off.
Nvidia
Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) has been the biggest AI infrastructure winner, and it remains one of the best-positioned semiconductor stocks. Its CUDA software platform, where most foundational AI code was written, gives its graphics processing units (GPUs) a wide moat when it comes to AI model training.
Meanwhile, its move earlier this year to acquire Groq and its language processing units (LPUs) to handle the decoding phase of inference helps give it a strong offering in the inference market, as well.
The company also recently signed a large deal with SK Hynix in which the Korean memory maker will supply it with high-bandwidth memory (HBM), a vital component that needs to be packaged with AI chips. Since HBM is severely supply-constrained, this access gives the company a big edge.
With the stock trading at a forward price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of just 15 times the analysts' consensus for fiscal 2028 (ending January 2028), it is a top growth stock trading at a cheap valuation. I would be a buyer while it's on sale.
Advanced Micro Devices
The faster they go up, the faster they go down. Shares of Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) have shot up this year on the back of its strong growth prospects, but they have been hit particularly hard in this recent chip sell-off. Still, the stock's price action doesn't impact the huge growth drivers the company has ahead.
AMD is just starting to see growth surge on tailwinds from inference and agentic AI. The company now has large deals in place with OpenAI, Meta Platforms, Anthropic, and Microsoft for its next-generation GPUs and Helios Rack systems to help run inference for these hyperscalers.
Management paid a hefty price to secure deals with OpenAI and Meta in the form of warrants for up to 10% of its stock, but it did open the doors for future growth and helped establish it as a strong No. 2 player in the space. These deals should drive tremendous revenue growth in the coming years.
At the same time, the company has a huge opportunity with agentic AI and its central processing unit (CPU) business. AI agents will require more CPUs in data centers, and AMD is a leader in this space. It now sees this market ballooning to $220 billion in the next few years.
With AMD having some of the best growth prospects in the industry, now can be a great time to buy the stock following its pullback.
Broadcom
Another semiconductor stock with huge growth ahead is Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO). The company helped Alphabet co-develop its tensor processing units (TPUs), and it is now riding that huge tailwind.
This has also led other hyperscalers to ask it to help them develop their own custom AI chips. Broadcom sees this producing more than $100 billion in sales for fiscal 2027 (ending October 2027), with Citigroup projecting its AI business could grow to $180 billion in fiscal 2028.
Broadcom has also smartly locked up HBM supply with Samsung Electronics, which likely means hyperscalers looking to produce custom AI chips at scale will have to turn to it for help. And its custom chip business also feeds into its fast-growing data center networking segment.
Following a sell-off in the stock, it now trades at a forward P/E of 19 based on fiscal 2027 analyst estimates, making this a great time to buy while it's cheap.

Semiconductor Crash: 3 Stocks to Buy Now While They Are Still on Sale

U.S. stocks fell sharply in midday trading Wednesday as geopolitical tensions reignited and investors positioned ahead of the Federal Reserve's 2:00 p.m. ET policy decision. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI) is down 1.7% at mid-day, led lower by Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT) dropping 7.3% and Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) falling 4.6% on macroeconomic concerns. The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) has shed 1%, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC) is down by 1.3%.

All three indexes opened in the red, made a half-hearted attempt at stabilization around 11 a.m. ET, then gave up and slid lower again.
Geopolitical chaos meets central bank uncertainty
The immediate trigger for today's selling? Oil prices rocketing more than 6%.
President Donald Trump told Fox News the U.S. would give Iran "a beating" following an overnight missile attack on American forces. That was the end of last Friday's diplomatic progress. You know the ripple effects that follow when oil prices are on the move. Every company depends on energy in some way, so high oil prices quickly get expensive for retailers, tech giants, and manufacturers.
Then there's the Fed. At 2:00 p.m., Chairman Kevin Warsh will announce the latest policy decision, and futures markets are pricing in a nearly 70% chance that rates stay put in the current 3.5% to 3.75% range. But the real drama will come during Warsh's press conference, where traders will parse every word for hints on whether the Fed is sticking with "higher-for-longer" or if recent oil price swings and stubborn inflation readings are raising fresh concerns.
Semiconductor stocks bore the brunt of the technology sector sell-off. The iShares Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ: SOXX) plunged 4.4%, extending a 10% weekly decline. Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) dropped 5.7%, and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) fell 5.8%. They didn't do anything wrong, other than being richly valued growth stocks on a de-risking kind of market day.
And it's earnings season. Sherwin-Williams (NYSE: SHW) beat analyst estimates and Boeing (NYSE: BA) posted a mixed report. Both stocks fell, erasing a combined 109 points from the Dow.
What's next?
The market drama won't stop here. Two Magnificent 7 companies are reporting earnings tonight, and another two tomorrow. Besides their financials, whatever they say about data center plans and AI investments will surely move the markets for the rest of this week.
Sometimes the market throws multiple curveballs at once. The daily drama may open some opportunities and close others, so there's nothing wrong with tracking the headlines. Still, the best strategy is to stay focused on the predictable value of long-term fundamentals.

Market Indexes Tumble on Geopolitical Tensions and Chip Stock Selloff

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) today is down -0.71%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) is down -1.53%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is down -0.98%. September E-mini S&P futures (ESU26) are down -0.75%, and September E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQU26) are down -1.03%.
Stock indexes are falling today, with the S&P 500 sliding to a 1-month low and the Nasdaq 100 sinking to a 3-month low. Chipmakers and AI infrastructure stocks are selling off today, leading the overall market lower. Also, heightened geopolitical risks are weighing on stocks as crude prices surged, and bond yields jumped when President Trump said the US will “hit Iran hard” after a recent attack from Iran that targeted a US base in Jordan.

The markets are awaiting the results of the 2-day FOMC meeting that ends early this afternoon, with policymakers expected to keep interest rates unchanged. Also, earnings results from Microsoft and Meta Platforms after today’s close will be looked at to see whether the vast spending behind the buildout of artificial intelligence can deliver adequate returns. The 10-year T-note yield is up +4 bp to 4.64%.
Sep WTI crude oil prices (CLU26) jumped by more than +7% today as the recent lull in hostilities came to an abrupt end after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it targeted a US airbase and command center in Jordan with ballistic missiles. The IRGC also claimed to have hit and halted three tankers attempting to transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the US and Saudi Arabia launched a joint attack on "Iran-aligned terrorists" in Iraq after the IRGC directed them to target US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.
Tensions remain high in the Middle East as the US maintains its blockade of Iranian oil shipments in the Persian Gulf. Also, diplomatic attempts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz appear to be at an impasse. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi said Oman's proposal for a route through the Strait of Hormuz, with 50% under Iran's control and 50% under Oman's, would not address Iran's concerns and that the inbound passage and part of the outbound channel must be entirely under Iran's control.
US MBA mortgage applications fell -6.4% in the week ended July 24, with the purchase mortgage sub-index down -3.6% and the refinancing mortgage sub-index down -9.9%. The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage rose +7 bp to an 11.5-month high of 6.76% from 6.69% the prior week.
The outlook for strong Q2 earnings, which continue this week, is a bullish factor for stocks. The markets are awaiting results from a raft of megacap technology companies this week, including Microsoft and Meta Platforms today, and Amazon.com and Apple on Thursday. Forecasts compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence suggest Q2 earnings may increase by +23%, close to Q1’s blowout earnings of +30%, which was more than double the +12% analysts had expected. AI spending is expected to account for most of earnings, with AI infrastructure stocks set to contribute nearly 60% of the S&P 500's earnings-per-share growth in Q2. So far, earnings results have been positive, with 87% of the 216 S&P 500 companies that have reported Q2 earnings beating estimates, according to Bloomberg data.
The markets are discounting a 34% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the conclusion of today’s FOMC meeting.
Overseas stock markets are mixed today. The Euro Stoxx 50 is down -0.73%. China's Shanghai Composite rebounded from a 1-week low and closed up +0.40%. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average fell to a 2.25-month low and closed down -1.49%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) today are down -9 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is up +3.0 bp to 4.637%. T-notes are under pressure today from a +7% surge in crude oil prices, which raises inflation expectations and is hawkish for Fed policy. Also, long liquidation and position evening are weighing on T-notes ahead of the FOMC’s interest rate decision later today.
European government bond yields are moving higher today. The 10-year German bund yield is up +5.0 bp to 3.154%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is up +7.7 bp to 5.021%.
The German Jun import price index eased to 6.1% y/y from 6.8% y/y in May.
The markets are discounting an 88% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on September 10.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks are sharply lower today, weighing on the broader market. The Philadelphia Stock Exchange Semiconductor Index ($SOX) dropped to a 2.5-month low and is down more than -3%. Nebius Group NV (NBIS) is down more than -9% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100, and KLA Corp (KLAC) and Sandisk (SNDK) are down more than -7%. Also, Applied Materials (AMAT), NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI), and ARM Holdings (ARM) are down by more than -5%, and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is down more than -4%. In addition, Marvell Technology (MRVL), Lam Research (LRCX), and Microchip Technology (MCHP) are down more than -3%, and Nvidia (NVDA), Intel (INTC), and Texas Instruments (TXN) are down more than -2%.
Trucking and freight companies are under pressure today from soaring crude oil prices. ArcBest (ARCB) is down more than -7%, and Saia Inc (SAIA), FedEx Freight Holding (FDXF), JB Hunt Transport Services (JBHT), and CH Robinson Worldwide (CHRW) are down more than -2%. Also, Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL), Marten Transport Ltd (MRTN), Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings (KNX), and XPO Inc (XPO) are down more than -1%.
Airline stocks are sliding today with the surge in crude oil prices. Alaska Air Group (ALK) is down more than -3%, and Delta Air Lines (DAL) and Southwest Airlines (LUV) are down more than -2%. Also, American Airlines Group (AAL) and United Airlines Holdings (UAL) are down more than -1%.
Energy producers and service providers are climbing today, with crude oil prices up by more than +7%. Diamondback Energy (FANG) is up more than +4%, and ConocoPhillips (COP), APA Corp (APA), Devon Energy (DVN), ExxonMobil Holdings (XOM), and Occidental Petroleum (OXY) are up more than +3%. Also, Baker Hughes (BKR) and Chevron (CVX) are up more than +2%, and Phillips 66 (PSX) and Valero Energy (VLO) are up more than +1%.
Lennox International (LII) is down more than -19% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q2 net sales of $1.55 billion, weaker than the consensus of $1.56 billion.
Vertiv Holdings (VRT) is down more than -13% after reporting Q2 net sales of $3.27 billion, below the consensus of $3.39 billion.
Avis Budget Group (CAR) is down more than -11% after reporting Q2 EPS of 98 cents, well below the consensus of $1.91.
Masco Corp (MAS) is down more than -10% after reporting Q2 net sales of $1.99 billion, weaker than the consensus of $2.08 billion.
Caterpillar (CAT) is down more than -6% to lead losers in the Dow Jones industrials after Baird downgraded the stock to neutral from outperform, citing a growing trend of state and local government actions targeting data centers, a key growth driver for the company.
Humana (HUM) is down more than -6% after it maintained its full-year profit outlook despite posting better-than-expected Q2 profit.
Garmin Ltd (GRMN) is up more than +17% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q2 revenue of $2.02 billion, above the consensus of $1.92 billion, and raising its full-year revenue estimate to $8.05 billion from a previous estimate of $7.90 billion, stronger than the consensus of $7.99 billion.
GE Healthcare (GEHC) is up more than +11% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100 after reporting Q2 adjusted EPS of $1.13, better than the consensus of $1.04.
Amphenol (APH) is up more than +6% after reporting Q2 net sales of $8.76 billion, better than the consensus of $8.31 billion.
Teradyne (TER) is up more than +5% after reporting Q2 net revenue of $1.33 billion, stronger than the consensus of $1.22 billion.
Ford Motor (F) is up more than +5% after raising its full-year adjusted EBIT to $10 billion to $11 billion from a previous forecast of $8.5 billion to $10.5 billion.

The markets are discounting a 36% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the conclusion of today’s FOMC meeting.
Overseas stock markets are mixed today. The Euro Stoxx 50 is down -0.48%. China's Shanghai Composite rebounded from a 1-week low and closed up +0.40%. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average fell to a 2.25-month low and closed down -1.49%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) today are down -8 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is up +2.6 bp to 4.633%. T-notes are under pressure today from a +6% surge in crude oil prices, which raises inflation expectations and is hawkish for Fed policy. Also, long liquidation and position evening are weighing on T-notes ahead of the FOMC’s interest rate decision later today.
European government bond yields are moving higher today. The 10-year German bund yield is up +3.2 bp to 3.136%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is up +5.3 bp to 4.997%.
The German Jun import price index eased to 6.1% y/y from 6.8% y/y in May.
The markets are discounting an 88% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on September 10.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks are moving lower today, weighing on the broader market. Nebius Group NV (NBIS) is down more than -8% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100, and Sandisk (SNDK) is down more than -6%. Also, Applied Materials (AMAT) and KLA Corp (KLAC) are down by more than -4%, and NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) and ARM Holdings (ARM) are down by more than -3%. In addition, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), ASML Holding NV (ASML), Micron Technology (MU), Lam Research (LRCX), and Microchip Technology (MCHP) are down more than -2%.
Trucking and freight companies are under pressure today from soaring crude oil prices. ArcBest (ARCB) is down more than -4%, and Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL) and Saia Inc (SAIA) are down more than -2%. Also, FedEx Freight Holding (FDXF), Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings (KNX), JB Hunt Transport Services (JBHT), Marten Transport Ltd (MRTN), CH Robinson Worldwide (CHRW), and XPO Inc (XPO) are down more than -1%.
Airline stocks are sliding today with the surge in crude oil prices. Alaska Air Group (ALK) and Southwest Airlines (LUV) are down more than -2%, and American Airlines Group (AAL), United Airlines Holdings (UAL), and Delta Air Lines (DAL) are down more than -1%.
Energy producers and service providers are climbing today, with crude oil prices up by more than +6%. ConocoPhillips (COP), Diamondback Energy (FANG), and Valero Energy (VLO) are up more than +3%, and APA Corp (APA), Chevron (CVX), Devon Energy (DVN), ExxonMobil Holdings (XOM), Marathon Petroleum (MPC), Occidental Petroleum (OXY), and Phillips 66 (PSX) are up more than +2%. Also, SLB Ltd (SLB), Baker Hughes (BKR), and Haliburton (HAL) are up more than +1%.
Lennox International (LII) is down more than -13% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q2 net sales of $1.55 billion, weaker than the consensus of $1.56 billion.
Vertiv Holdings (VRT) is down more than -8% after reporting Q2 net sales of $3.27 billion, below the consensus of $3.39 billion.
CoStar Group (CSGP) is down more than -8% after reporting Q2 revenue of $925 million, weaker than the consensus of $929.4 million.
Skyworks Solutions (SWKS) is down more than -7% after forecasting Q4 adjusted EPS of $1.27, below the consensus of $1.29.
Avis Budget Group (CAR) is down more than -6% after reporting Q2 EPS of 98 cents, well below the consensus of $1.91.
Caterpillar (CAT) is down more than -2% after Baird downgraded the stock to neutral from outperform, citing a growing trend of state and local government actions targeting data centers, a key growth driver for the company.

Motorola Solutions, Inc. MSI is scheduled to report second-quarter 2026 results after the closing bell on Aug. 5. In the last reported quarter, the company delivered an earnings surprise of 3.7%. It pulled off a trailing four-quarter earnings surprise of 5.2%, on average.
The Chicago, IL-based company is expected to have recorded year-over-year higher revenues on the back of growth in both segments – Products and Systems Integration and Services and Software. It benefits from the increasing demand for its mission-critical technologies in North America and globally.
Factors at Play
During the to-be-reported quarter, Motorola enhanced its Assist AI agent platform with new features that enable faster response times and better situational awareness for emergency teams. It introduced the Interpreter Agent to help overcome language barriers during 911 calls. The tool can detect a caller’s language in seconds and provide real-time two-way translation and live transcription. This helps dispatchers communicate faster and more clearly, reducing delays and improving communication during emergencies. The company also added live 911 audio streaming, allowing first responders to access call audio directly in the field for timely, more informed decisions before arriving at the scene. This is likely to have generated incremental revenues during the quarter.
In the quarter, Motorola launched SafetyCam, a wearable AI assistant for the protection and active assistance of retail and other front-line enterprise teams. Integrating enterprise-grade video security, two-way voice communications, a dedicated panic button and the company's conversational Assist AI, the SafetyCam is a single, intuitive device that helps in proactive threat detection and deterrence. It transforms first-person, floor-level data into connected intelligence for greater operational clarity across a store to help local management verify compliance, protect assets and rapidly resolve operational claims. These are likely to be reflected in the upcoming quarterly results.
Riding on such state-of-the-art products, Motorola expects to record strong demand across video security and services, land mobile radio products and related software while benefiting from a solid foundation. These systems drive the demand for additional device sales and promote software upgrades and infrastructure expansion. The comprehensive suite of services ensures continuity and reduces risks related to critical communications operations. These developments are expected to have positively impacted MSI’s performance in the second quarter.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for the Products and Systems Integration segment’s revenues is pegged at $1.76 billion. The figure indicates a rise from $1.65 billion recorded in the year-ago quarter. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for the Services and Software segment’s revenues is pegged at $1.24 billion, up from $1.11 billion recorded in the year-earlier quarter.

Despite Nvidia's first-mover advantage in the AI accelerator market, AMD has steadily secured a number of high-profile big tech wins that validate the company's competitive technology and open ecosystem.
Microsoft recently announced that it will be integrating AMD's Helios suite across Azure to support frontier model inference and scaling AI workloads. Helios provides access to AMD's Instinct MI455X GPUs, EPYC Venice CPUs, Pensando networking data processing units (DPUs), and ROCm software ecosystem.
In addition, Meta Platforms committed to a multi-year deployment of up to 6 gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPUs, starting with an MI450-based architecture launching in the second half of this year.
OpenAI is similarly locked in a 6-gigawatt multi-generation partnership centered on the MI450 platform. More recently, Anthropic announced a strategic partnership to deploy up to 2 gigawatts of MI450-series accelerators, with AMD also committing an equity investment of up to $5 billion in the frontier lab to deepen the relationship.
These contracts de-risk AMD's growth trajectory by providing multi-year revenue visibility, reducing reliance on any single customer, and proving that leading AI developers view the company as a credible, high-performance alternative capable of meeting their compute needs.
What does Wall Street expect from AMD over the next couple of years?
Consensus estimates from Wall Street analysts paint a picture of accelerating demand that underscores AMD's expanding role in the AI infrastructure build-out. Revenue is projected to climb from roughly $50 billion in 2026 to over $100 billion by 2028. Earnings per share (EPS) are expected to follow a similar path, rising from $7.50 this year to about $20 by 2028.
This represents compound annual growth rates exceeding 50% for both top- and bottom-line metrics over the next two years. All told, this forecast signals that demand is not merely continuing but intensifying as hyperscalers translate data center build-out plans into sustained silicon procurement.
Can AMD stock double by 2028?
AMD currently trades at a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) multiple of 64. Given the company's undeniable valuation expansion over the last year, I think the chances of sustaining a multiple this frothy through 2028 are slim.
Even if AMD's forward P/E were to compress to a range of 48 to 52, this would imply a stock price between $960 and $1,040 should the company achieve the 2028 EPS target of $20. This represents share price appreciation up to 101%, given AMD's current stock price.
I think this is a reasonable outcome given AMD's elevated growth profile, the scarcity of pure-play AI accelerator suppliers, and the market's historical willingness to award premium valuations to semiconductor leaders capturing secular AI-driven tailwinds. AMD presents a compelling opportunity for investors seeking exposure to the next phase of AI infrastructure spending.

Data Center revenue grew 57% year over year in the first quarter of 2026, and second-quarter revenue is guided higher as supply and customer ramps broaden.

RTX’s shares have outperformed the Zacks Aerospace - Defense industry over the past six months (+11.2% vs. -2.3%). The company’s second-quarter 2026 earnings and revenues beat estimates. This is supported by a steady recovery in commercial aerospace, strong defense orders and a robust backlog. Rising global air traffic, higher commercial OEM and aftermarket sales and strong demand for large commercial engines should aid growth.
RTX’s defense business remains well-positioned, backed by strong bookings from the Pentagon and foreign allies. RTX ended the second quarter of 2026 with a backlog of $289 billion.
However, persistent supply-chain disruptions remain a concern. Aircraft engine availability issues may affect production and deliveries. Tariff-related uncertainty and expanded Russia-linked sanctions also pose risks to RTX’s operations. We have a Neutral rating on RTX shares.

Investors have a clear choice here. BigBear.ai has reported inconsistent revenue performance and net losses. The added litigation risk related to accounting controls has cast a cloud of uncertainty over the company’s future direction, sending the stock down 62% over the past year.
Advanced Micro Devices is on a much more clear growth trajectory. Its recent revenue growth is being driven by growing demand for its server CPUs. But it should also see accelerating data center revenue later this year, following the launch of its Helios rack system.
Despite its higher valuation, AMD shares have soared year to date, more than doubling in value, while BigBear has underperformed.
