Alcoa Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, produces and sells bauxite, alumina, and aluminum products in the United States, Spain, Australia, Iceland, Norway, Brazil, Canada, and internationally. The company operates through two segments, Alumina and Aluminum. It engages in bauxite mining operations; and processes bauxite into alumina and sells it to customers who process it into industrial chemical products, as well as aluminum smelting and casting businesses. The company offers primary aluminum in the form of alloy ingot or value-add ingot to customers that produce products for the transportation, building and construction, packaging, wire, and other industrial markets; and flat-rolled aluminum in the form of sheet, which is sold primarily to customers that produce beverage and food cans. In addition, it owns hydro power plants that generates and sells electricity in the wholesale market to traders, large industrial consumers, distribution companies, and other generation companies. The company was formerly known as Alcoa Upstream Corporation and changed its name to Alcoa Corporation in October 2016. The company was founded in 1886 and is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

China controls roughly 99% of the world's primary low-purity gallium production and has put limits on its export since 2023. The metal, crucial for high-end semiconductors, is mainly a byproduct of aluminum (bauxite) and zinc refining. While raw bauxite isn't hard to come by outside of China, there are few places outside of that country that have invested in the expensive process to extract gallium.
This month, prices for gallium are roughly $2,269 per kilogram -- a 141% increase since the start of 2025. This has been compounded by conflict in the Middle East, which disrupted aluminum production (and thus gallium recovery) in places such as Qatar. That has led companies and governments to seek other sources of the metal.

Two mining stocks that could benefit from that trend are Alcoa (NYSE: AA) and Teck Resources (NYSE: TECK). Here are reasons to buy each stock.
Alcoa benefits from shifting global supply chains
The need to source aluminum and gallium outside China means that companies are willing to pay a premium for Alcoa's products. Unlike many of its competitors, Alcoa has a vertically integrated supply chain in so-called "safe" locations. It has access to bauxite reserves at seven global mines in Australia, Brazil, Guinea, and Saudi Arabia. The company has seven refineries, six of which are located near key markets on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
The Pittsburgh company received $200 million from the Australian government in November, alongside U.S. and Japanese government equity support, for a gallium recovery plant at Alcoa's Wagerup alumina refinery in Western Australia. The project, being worked on with the Sojitz Corporation of Japan, aims to achieve annual gallium production of 100 million tons.
Improved financial health
In the first quarter, Alcoa reported revenue of $3.19 billion, down 7% sequentially. But earnings per share (EPS) doubled over the fourth quarter of 2025, to $1.60. The improvement in profitability is mainly due to the average realized price of aluminum increasing by 12.2% to $4.2 billion per U.S. metric tonne, as the London Metal Exchange price and regional premiums spiked amid Middle East shipping disruptions.
The company is aggressively using its $1.4 billion in cash to improve its financial health. It recently issued a notice to redeem $219 million of high-interest senior notes due in 2028, reducing its debt burden.
The stock is priced right
Alcoa shares trade at slightly more than 9 times forward earnings, a competitive valuation compared to its peers.
The successful restart of Alcoa's San Ciprián smelter in Spain is expected to add significant volume to the aluminum segment. Management said it expects the move to contribute an additional $55 million in earnings in the second quarter alone, driven by increased shipments and lower per-unit costs.
Teck is positioning itself to benefit from the gallium push
Canadian mining company Teck Holdings isn't a gallium producer, but it's positioning itself to own the gallium processing infrastructure that Western governments are currently subsidizing to bypass Chinese supply chains. This toll-booth model for critical minerals reduces Teck's direct mining risk while keeping it at the center of the North American semiconductor supply chain.
The company just sold its Apex germanium, gallium, and copper mine in Utah to Blue Moon Metals (NASDAQ: BMM) while retaining an 8% stake in Blue Moon. Instead, Teck will receive a 0.5% net smelter returns royalty on the property and a capped royalty of $1 million. Blue Moon will process its zinc concentrates, including gallium, at Teck's Trail operations in British Columbia.
Teck is growing revenue and EPS
In 2025, Teck reported revenue of $10.8 billion, up 18.6%, and EPS of $2.84, compared to an EPS loss of $0.90 in 2024. It is in the process of merging with Anglo American, with the new company to be called Anglo Teck. The new company plans to focus on three goals: Keeping mines open longer, expanding processing capacity, and identifying additional copper projects. Teck said the merger, if approved, should deliver annual pre-tax synergies of about $800 million.
In the right place at the right time
China's control over critical minerals has increased their prices. That, in turn, works in favor of companies such as Alcoa and Teck, as it makes it more profitable, in some cases with governmental support, to mine and process critical minerals like copper and gallium.
Both stocks have seen their shares jump more than 70% over the past year as investors realize they are financially healthy and poised to get even healthier.

Otis Worldwide Corporation OTIS reported mixed first-quarter 2026 results, wherein earnings missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate and declined year over year. Meanwhile, net sales surpassed the same and increased from the prior year's reported figure.
Otis Worldwide’s first-quarter results reflected broad-based momentum in Service, led by repair activity, alongside solid order and backlog improvement in the modernization business. The company has emphasized actions around operational execution, pricing and cost efficiency as it works to monetize investments and improve margin performance in the coming quarters.
However, management attributed the margin pressure to tariff impacts relative to the prior year, continued Service investments that began in the second quarter of last year and accelerated this year, and shipment delays tied to geopolitical disruption in the Middle East.
Inside OTIS’ Q1 Headlines
OTIS reported earnings per share (EPS) of 89 cents, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 91 cents by 2.2%. In the year-ago quarter, it had reported an adjusted EPS of 92 cents.
Net sales of $3.57 billion surpassed the consensus mark of $3.5 billion by 2% and increased 6.4% on a year-over-year basis. Organically, net sales were up 1% year over year. Favorable foreign exchange movement supported sales growth by 5%. A standout in the quarter was repair, with net sales up 16% at actual currency and organic repair sales up about 10%.
Adjusted operating margin contracted 130 basis points year over year to 15.4%, reflecting weaker segment performance, partially offset by a favorable segment mix. Our model predicted the adjusted operating margin to decrease 70 bps (basis points) year over year to 16%.
Segment Details of OTIS
Service: The net sales of this segment increased 11% year over year to $2.42 billion. A 5% rise in organic sales was accompanied by a 5% favorable foreign exchange movement. Organic maintenance and repair sales increased 4%, and organic modernization sales rose 6% from the year-ago quarter. Our model estimated organic sales for the segment to grow 10.2%. The Modernization backlog at constant currency increased 30% year over year.
Segment operating margin contracted 160 bps year over year to 23% due to higher volume and favorable pricing, which were more than offset by higher labor and material costs, investments and mix effects.
New Equipment: This segment’s net sales of $1.15 billion fell 1% from the prior-year period. Organic sales declined 5%. Our model predicted organic sales for the New Equipment segment to decrease 5%.
New Equipment orders rose 1% at constant currency, with more than 20% strength in the Americas and low single-digit growth in EMEA, partially offset by more than 20% decline in the Asia Pacific and a low teens decline in China. The segment’s backlog increased 6% at actual currency and 3% at constant currency, providing some support for future revenue conversion despite near-term delivery challenges.
Segment operating margin contracted 240 bps year over year to 3.3%. The downtrend was due to the impacts of lower volume, unfavorable price, and mix, which was partially offset by productivity tailwinds.
Financial Position of OTIS
Otis Worldwide had cash and cash equivalents of $834 million as of March 31, 2026, down from $1.1 billion reported at 2025-end. Long-term debt decreased to $6.88 billion as of March 31, 2026, from $6.9 billion at the end of 2025.
Net cash flows provided by operating activities were $413 million as of March 31, 2026, up from $190 million a year ago.
Adjusted free cash flow (FCF) totaled $272 million as of March 31, 2026, up from $186 million a year ago.
OTIS Revises 2026 Guidance
The company expects net sales in the range of $15.1-$15.3 billion (up from the prior outlook of $15-$15.3 billion), implying approximately 4.6%-6% year-over-year growth. Organic sales growth is still projected in the low- to mid-single-digit range.
Organic New Equipment sales are now expected to range from low single digits to flat (previously projected as flat to low single digits), while Organic Service sales are still anticipated to grow in the mid- to high-single-digit range.
Adjusted operating profit is projected at $2.5 billion (down from the prior range of $2.5-$2.6 billion), now reflecting an increase of $20-$60 million at constant currency and $60-$100 million at actual currency.
Adjusted earnings are forecast at $4.20-$4.24 per share, while adjusted free cash flow is expected to be between $1.6 billion and $1.65 billion (compared with the earlier outlook of $1.6-$1.7 billion).

Otis Worldwide Q1 Earnings Fall Short of Estimates, Sales Beat

Last week, Reuters, citing anonymous sources, reported that United Airlines (NASDAQ: UAL) CEO Scott Kirby had presented a potential merger with American Airlines (NYSE: AA) to President Donald Trump at a late-February meeting.
Rumors of the deal, which would have created the largest global airline by capacity, sent American Airlines' stock surging higher.

But yesterday, American Airlines CEO shot down these reports, with a spokesperson issuing a statement that said, "American Airlines is not engaged with or interested in any discussions regarding a merger with United Airlines."
That sent the stock lower, as investors believed that such a deal would have made American Airlines the acquisition target, given its lower market cap, leading to a premium offer on the current stock price.
Today, American Airlines stock is once again in the red, down roughly 3.3% in the final hour of trading. Here are two other factors dragging down the stock today.
Trump shuts the door on potential merger
American issuing a statement yesterday was reason enough to believe that a tie-up between the two airlines wasn't going to happen. Still, not all investors fully take companies at their word, so there might have been some holding out hope that a merger could still materialize down the line.
Trump seemed to close the door on this idea, saying, "But with American it's doing fine, and United is doing very well. ​I know the United people, they're doing very well. I don't like having them merge."
That statement alone might have sent any investors hopeful for a deal exiting the stock. The potential for a deal also drew criticism from a bipartisan group of U.S. Senators, so obtaining regulatory approval may have been difficult, if it was ever considered in the first place.
Another factor impacting American Airlines -- and much of the broader market -- is renewed tensions between the U.S. and Iran, which have driven oil futures prices higher.
As of early afternoon, U.S. Vice President JD Vance had not yet left for Islamabad, Pakistan, to attend a new round of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran aimed at reaching a longer-term agreement that would end the war.
The U.S. and Iran previously entered a two-week ceasefire, which is slated to expire tomorrow, on April 22. However, the ceasefire has been fragile, with both the U.S. and Iran claiming the other violated the short-term agreement.
If the ceasefire is not extended or a longer-term agreement is not reached, oil prices are likely to soar again, further pressuring airline stocks like American Airlines, which have seen jet fuel prices surge.
Higher jet fuel prices will likely raise travel costs, potentially stunting consumer demand that had been shaping up nicely for the airline sector. Already, American, along with other major airlines, has increased fees for checked bags.
American Airlines is expected to report its 2026 first-quarter earnings on Thursday, which will provide investors with more details on pricing pressures seen in March and on management's view of the environment moving forward.
A lot can happen between now and then, so I expect the stock to be volatile this week.

American Airlines Has Denied Rumors of a Merger With United. Here Are 2 Others Factors Dragging Down the Stock Right Now.

3M Company MMM reported first-quarter 2026 results, wherein earnings surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate while revenues missed the same.
It’s worth noting that in April 2024, the company completed the spin-off of its Healthcare business into a separate public company.

3M delivered adjusted earnings of $2.14 per share, which surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.02 by 5.9%. The bottom line increased 14% year over year.
The company reported net revenues of $6.03 billion in the quarter. The metric increased 1.3% year over year. However, organic sales decreased 1.4%. Foreign currency translation had a positive impact of 2.8% while acquisitions/divestitures had a negative impact of 0.1%.
MMM’s adjusted revenues of $6 billion missed the consensus estimate of $6.02 billion by 0.3%. On an adjusted basis, organic revenues increased 1.2% year over year. The results were supported by strength in general industrial, safety and electronics end markets.
Region-wise, adjusted organic sales in the Americas rose 0.1% year over year, other Asia adjusted organic sales increased 4.6% and China adjusted organic sales increased 4%. Adjusted organic sales from businesses in Europe, the Middle East and Africa decreased 0.7%.
3M’s Q1 Segmental Results
Revenues from Safety and Industrial totaled $2.93 billion, up 6.8% year over year, driven by strength in safety, industrial adhesives and tapes, abrasives and electrical markets. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for the segment’s revenues was pegged at $2.90 billion. Organic revenues increased 3.2% and foreign currency translation had a positive impact of 3.6%.
Revenues from Transportation & Electronics totaled $1.85 billion, reflecting a year-over-year increase of 1.8%. The consensus estimate for the segment’s revenues was pegged at $1.87 billion. However, the segment’s organic sales decreased 0.3%. Foreign currency translation had a 2.4% favorable impact, while divestiture had an adverse impact of 0.3% on revenues.
Revenues from the Consumer segment increased 0.6% year over year to $1.13 billion. The consensus estimate for the segment’s revenues was pegged at $1.14 billion. Organic sales decreased 1.3% while movements in foreign currencies had a positive impact of 1.9%.

MMM’s adjusted operating income increased 6.4% year over year to $1.39 billion. The adjusted operating margin was 23.6% compared with 23% in the year-ago quarter. The adjusted tax rate was 17.5% compared with 20.9% in the year-ago quarter.
3M’s Balance Sheet & Cash Flow
Exiting the first three months of 2026, 3M had cash and cash equivalents of $3.73 billion compared with $5.24 billion at the end of December 2025. Long-term debt was $10.91 billion at the end of the quarter compared with $10.93 billion at the end of December 2025.
3M generated a net cash of $574 million in operating activities compared with $79 million cash used in the year-ago quarter. Capital used for purchasing property, plant and equipment decreased 4.7% to $225 million.
Adjusted free cash flow at the end of the quarter was $541 million, up 10.6% year over year. Adjusted free cash flow conversion was 47% in the quarter.
In the first three months of 2026, 3M rewarded its shareholders with $2.41 billion in share repurchases and dividend payments.
MMM’s 2026 Guidance
For 2026, MMM expects adjusted earnings to be in the range of $8.50-$8.70 per share. The midpoint of the guided range is about $8.60, which reflects an increase from earnings of $8.06 per share reported in 2025.
Adjusted organic revenue growth is projected to be about 3%. The company expects the adjusted free cash flow conversion rate to be more than 100%.

Danaher Corporation’s DHR first-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings of $2.06 per share beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.95. The bottom line increased 9.6% year over year.
Danaher reported net sales of $5.95 billion, which missed the consensus estimate of $5.99 billion. However, the metric increased 3.5% year over year. The quarter reflected continued strength in the bioprocessing business and better-than-expected performance in the Life Sciences segment.
DHR’s core sales increased 0.5% year over year in the quarter. Foreign-currency translations had a positive impact of 3%.

Exiting the first quarter, DHR had cash and equivalents of $5.70 billion compared with $4.62 billion at 2025-end. Long-term debt was $17.5 billion at the end of the quarter compared with $18.4 billion at the end of December 2025.
Danaher generated net cash of $1.32 billion from operating activities in the first three months of 2026 compared with $1.30 billion in the previous year’s comparable period. Capital expenditures totaled $237 million in the same period, down 3.3% year over year. Adjusted free cash flow increased 2.4% year over year to $1.09 billion in the first three months of 2026.
In the same period, DHR paid out dividends of $226 million, up 16.5% on a year-over-year basis.
Danaher Raises 2026 EPS View
For the second quarter of 2026, Danaher expects adjusted core sales to increase in the low single digits on a year-over-year basis.
The metric is anticipated to increase 3-6% on a year-over-year basis in 2026. The company expects adjusted earnings to be $8.35-$8.55 per share compared with $8.35-$8.50 expected earlier.
Masimo Deal in Focus
In February 2026, Danaher inked a deal to acquire Masimo Corp. for $9.9 billion. The addition of Masimo’s advanced sensor technology and AI-enabled monitoring will enable DHR to enhance its diagnostics portfolio. The acquired company will operate as a standalone company within Danaher’s Diagnostics segment, alongside Radiometer, Leica Biosystems, Cepheid and Beckman Coulter Diagnostics. Subject to customary closing conditions, the acquisition is expected to close in the second half of 2026.

WTI crude oil prices (CLK26) fell more than -11% on Friday to a 5-week low after Iran said the Strait of Hormuz is open to commercial shipping, which could pave the way for a deal to end the war. President Trump said the US naval blockade in the strait "will remain in full force" until a deal is fully agreed. On Monday, the US vowed to blockade all vessels passing through the strait that call at Iranian ports or are headed there. The blockade could exacerbate global oil and fuel shortages, as about a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas transits through the strait. Iran has been able to export crude oil during the war, exporting about 1.7 million bpd in March.
Comments on Friday from San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly signal that she favors keeping Fed policy steady, noting that the oil shock in the US is stronger on the inflation side than on growth, and that leaving policy unchanged would still restrain inflation.
Earnings season started strong this week, with 81% of the 48 S&P 500 companies that reported Q1 earnings beating estimates. Q1 S&P 500 earnings projected to climb +12% y/y, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. Stripping out the technology sector, Q1 earnings are projected to increase around +3%, the weakest in two years.
The markets are discounting a 1% chance for a +25 bp FOMC rate hike at the April 28-29 policy meeting.

June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) on Friday closed up +16 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield fell -6.7 bp to 4.244%. June T-notes rallied to a 1-month high on Friday, and the 10-year T-note yield fell to a 1-month low of 4.224%. Friday’s -11% plunge in WTI crude oil prices to a 5-week low lowered inflation expectations and boosted T-note prices. The 10-year breakeven inflation rate fell to a 1-week low of 2.346% on Friday.
European government bond yields moved lower on Friday. The 10-year German bund yield fell to a 1-week low of 2.945% and finished down -7.2 bp to 2.960%. The 10-year UK gilt yield dropped to a 1-week low of 4.725% and finished down -8.5 bp to 4.762%.
ECB President Christine Lagarde said, "Risks to the price outlook are tilted to the upside, especially in the near term, while the medium-term implications will depend on the intensity and duration of the war."
ECB Governing Council member Madis Muller said the ECB needs to stay "vigilant" to potential inflation risks from the Iran war, but "we don't have much hard evidence of second-round effects, so it's difficult to argue that there's an obvious case to raise rates."
ECB Governing Council member Alexander Demarco said, "Given higher uncertainty at the moment, June is a better moment than April" to decide whether an ECB interest rate response to the Iran war is necessary.

Also, Coinbase Global (COIN) and Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) are up more than +3%, and Riot Platforms (RIOT) and MARA Holdings (MARA) are up more than +2%.
Energy stocks and service providers are sinking today, with WTI crude oil down more than -10% at a 5-week low. APA Corp (APA) is down more than -10%, and Valero Energy (VLO) is down more than -7%. Also, Occidental Petroleum (OXY), Diamondback Energy (FANG), ConocoPhillips (COP), and Devon Energy (DVN) are down more than -6%, and Exxon Mobil (XOM) and Marathon Petroleum (MPC) are more than -5%. In addition, Chevron (CVX) is down more than -4% to lead losers in the Dow Jones Industrials, and Halliburton (HAL) is down more than -4%.
Autoliv (ALV) is up more than +8% after reporting Q1 sales of $2.75 billion, above the consensus of $2.61 billion.
Onto Innovation (ONTO) is up more than +5% after Stifel upgraded the stock to buy from hold with a price target of $350.
Woodward Inc. (WWD) is up more than +5% after RBC Capital Markets initiated coverage on the stock with a recommendation of outperform and a price target of $450.
Ally Financial (ALLY) is up more than +4% after reporting Q1 adjusted EPS of $1.11, better than the consensus of 93 cents.
NiSource (NI) is up more than +1% after announcing a new long-term energy agreement with a subsidiary of Alphabet to support the development and operation of a large data center in Indiana.
Netflix (NFLX) is down more than -9% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100 after forecasting Q2 revenue of $12.57 billion, below the consensus of $12.64 billion.
Albemarle (ALB) is down more than -6% after Baird downgraded the stock to neutral from outperform.
Alcoa (AA) is down more than -6% after reporting Q1 sales of $3.19 billion, weaker than the consensus of $3.27 billion.
