Williams-Sonoma, Inc. operates as an omni-channel specialty retailer of various products for home. It offers cooking, dining, and entertaining products, such as cookware, tools, electrics, cutlery, tabletop and bar, outdoor, furniture, and a library of cookbooks under the Williams Sonoma Home brand, as well as home furnishings and decorative accessories under the Williams Sonoma lifestyle brand; and furniture, bedding, lighting, rugs, table essentials, and decorative accessories under the Pottery Barn brand. The company also provides home decor products under the West Elm brand; kids accessories under the Pottery Barn Kids brand; and an organic bedding to multi-purpose furniture under the Pottery Barn Teen brand. In addition, it offers made-to-order lighting, hardware, furniture, and home decors inspired by history under the Rejuvenation brand; and women's and men's accessories, travel, entertaining and bar, home décor, and seasonal items under the Mark and Graham brand, as well as operates a 3-D imaging and augmented reality platform for the home furnishings and décor industry. The company markets its products through e-commerce websites, direct-mail catalogs, and retail stores. Williams-Sonoma, Inc. was founded in 1956 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California.

Revenue and earnings remain large and profitable, but across a number of periods the trajectory looks less like accelerating growth and more like a mature growth path, without a clear upward surge. The balance sheet looks strong: debt-to-equity is zero, long-term debt is minimal, and the cash position is comfortable, reducing financial risk. However, the quick ratio of 0.51 is below the industry norm and points to limited immediate liquidity, despite an acceptable current ratio of 1.33. The dividend yield of 0.36% is low and has declined over the year from higher levels, so dividend support for the valuation is weak. Overall, the fundamentals justify a premium to the sector, but the current multiples already reflect a significant portion of these strengths. For an investor, this means the stock has good quality and low balance-sheet risk, but room for further valuation upside looks limited without accelerating revenue or additional margin improvement. Therefore, it would be appropriate to slightly lower the target, while maintaining a neutral-to-positive view on the business itself.

WSM demonstrates very high profitability and an almost debt-free balance sheet, but trades at a notable premium on P/S and P/B, which limits upside.

RH RH is scheduled to report second-quarter fiscal 2026 (ended Aug. 1, 2026) results on Sept. 10, after the closing bell.
In the last reported quarter, the company’s adjusted loss per share of $1.97 was narrower than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of $2.13 by 7.5%. In the year-ago quarter, RH reported adjusted earnings of 13 cents per share. Net revenues of $800.3 million topped the consensus estimate by 1.1% but declined 1.7% year over year.
RH’s earnings surpassed estimates in only one of the trailing four quarters and missed on the other three occasions, but the average surprise was negative 12.8%.
How Are Estimates Placed for RH Stock?
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for the fiscal second quarter indicates earnings of 42 cents per share, which has declined from 79 cents over the past 30 days. In the year-ago period, the company reported earnings of $2.93 per share.
The consensus estimate for revenues is pegged at $914.2 million, indicating a 1.7% year-over-year growth.

Factors Likely to Have Shaped RH’s Q2 Performance
Assessing the Sales Environment: RH’s fiscal second-quarter revenue performance is likely to have remained constrained by a difficult housing backdrop, tariff-related sourcing disruptions and elevated backorder and special-order balances. Management expects these balances to remain unusually high in the fiscal second quarter before normalizing later in fiscal 2026. Accordingly, RH guided for fiscal second-quarter revenue growth of 0.5% to 2.5%, suggesting only modest top-line improvement during the period.
Despite these pressures, RH’s luxury positioning, international expansion and broader product transformation may have supported demand. The company has been building its presence across key European luxury markets, with Paris and Milan ramping up and London viewed by management as a potential accelerator for the international business. RH also continued expanding its trade platform and introducing higher-end customization through RH Bespoke Furniture and RH Couture Upholstery.
However, the larger benefits from RH Estates, backlog conversion and new-store growth are expected to be weighted toward the second half of fiscal 2026 rather than the fiscal second quarter. Management expects these initiatives to collectively drive a meaningful acceleration later in the year.
Factors Affecting Profitability: Profitability is likely to have remained under pressure from RH’s elevated investment cycle. Management guided for a fiscal second-quarter adjusted EBITDA margin of 11.5% to 13%, including an estimated 380-basis-point negative impact from pre-opening and startup expenses related to international expansion. Management indicated that a meaningful portion of these opening-related costs is transitory and should ease in the second half.
Overall, RH’s second-quarter results are expected to reflect modest revenue growth alongside continued near-term margin pressure from international investments and sourcing disruptions.

Lowe’s Companies, Inc. LOW reported second-quarter fiscal 2026 adjusted earnings of $4.40 per share, up 1.6% year over year, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $4.22. Revenues rose 8.3% to $25,956 million but missed the consensus estimate of $26,135 million.
Lowe’s expects fiscal 2026 total sales of $92 billion compared with its prior range of $92-$94 billion. Comparable sales are projected to be flat, versus the previous expectation of flat to up 2%. The revision reflects first-half operating results and current demand trends.

Top Stock Reports for AMD, Costco & AstraZeneca

The Home Depot Inc.’s HD do-it-yourself (“DIY”) business remains under pressure as cautious consumers continue to defer larger discretionary home-improvement projects. In the second quarter of fiscal 2026, management noted that Pro customers posted positive comps and outperformed DIY, underscoring the relative softness among DIY shoppers. While DIY demand was healthy across several spring-related categories, including live goods, mulch, soils, hardscapes, storage, patio and grills, larger discretionary projects remained challenged.
The weakness largely reflects an unfavorable housing and consumer backdrop. Management highlighted continued consumer uncertainty and housing affordability pressures, which are weighing on the demand for bigger home-improvement projects. Housing turnover also remains near historically low levels, with management noting no clear sign of an inflection point despite some improvement when interest rates ease.
However, the situation does not appear alarming. Customers continue to engage in smaller repair and maintenance projects, while 13 of Home Depot’s 16 merchandising departments generated positive comps during the quarter. Big-ticket transactions above $1,000 also rose 2.4% year over year, although broader discretionary projects stayed pressured.
Home Depot continues to gain traction through stronger digital engagement, faster delivery and improving in-store execution. Online sales advanced 11% in the quarter, marking the fifth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth. With management reaffirming its fiscal 2026 comparable-sales guidance of flat to 2% growth, weak DIY demand remains a near-term headwind, but broad category strength and continued market-share gains provide some offset.
How Are Peers Like LOW & WSM Catching Up?
Peers such as Lowe’s Companies Inc. LOW and Williams-Sonoma Inc. WSM are intensifying competition through targeted investments in digital capabilities, customer engagement and differentiated product offerings.
Lowe’s continues to face soft DIY demand as cautious homeowners limit discretionary spending amid elevated rates, inflation, fuel costs and broader economic uncertainty. Management noted that customers are prioritizing repair and maintenance projects over larger remodeling jobs, pressuring transactions. Still, the weakness appears manageable, with Pro, Online and Home Services providing offsets, while five consecutive quarters of positive comps and expectations for eventual housing recovery support confidence in longer-term demand.
Williams-Sonoma continues to navigate a pressured housing backdrop and macro uncertainty, factors that can weigh on discretionary home-furnishings demand. Yet, current results suggest limited cause for concern. Second-quarter fiscal 2026 comparable brand revenues rose 6.2%, with every brand delivering growth, while management said that it gained market share and outperformed the industry. The company also raised its fiscal 2026 outlook, signaling confidence that strong execution can offset softer housing-related demand trends.
HD’s Price Performance, Valuation & Estimates
Shares of Home Depot have lost 19.3% in the past year versus the industry’s decline of 24.9%.
From a valuation standpoint, HD trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 21X compared with the industry’s average of 19.17X.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for HD’s fiscal 2026 and fiscal 2027 earnings per share (EPS) implies year-over-year growth of 2.1% and 7%, respectively. The company’s EPS estimate for fiscal 2026 has moved up by a penny in the past seven days. Meanwhile, the consensus estimate for fiscal 2027 EPS has moved down 0.1% in the past seven days.

Retail's Big Q2 Beats Came from Washington, Not the Consumer
Four retailers reported Wednesday morning. All four beat expectations and raised guidance.
Yet a meaningful share of those profits arrived not from selling more to shoppers, but from a Supreme Court decision.
That is the single most important thing investors need to understand about this retail earnings season. The headline numbers look terrific. The underlying businesses are considerably more mixed. Both things are true at once, and telling them apart is now the whole job.
The $166 Billion Distortion
When the Supreme Court struck down the IEEPA tariffs on February 20th, it triggered one of the largest corporate cash windfalls in recent memory. Roughly $166 billion had been collected from some 330,000 importers, and approximately $100 billion had been refunded as of July 31st. Retailers are booking those refunds now, and the amounts are enormous and wildly uneven.
Walmart’s is the largest disclosed by any U.S. company. Lowe’s, at $80 million, received roughly one-ninth of what Home Depot did. That unevenness is precisely why cross-retailer margin comparisons this quarter are close to meaningless unless you normalize for it.

Abercrombie & Fitch deserves credit for the cleanest disclosure of the season. The company reported record second-quarter net sales of $1.27 billion, up 5%, and earnings of $4.17 per diluted share against a Zacks Consensus Estimate near $1.95. On its face, that translates to a 114% beat.
Except management specified that the IEEPA refund contributed approximately $100 million pre-tax, or $1.75 per diluted share. Back that out and underlying EPS is roughly $2.42 — still a genuine beat of about 24%, but a fundamentally different number.
The margin math tells the same story. Operating margin of about 20% included roughly 790 basis points from the refund. Ex-refund, it lands near 12% against 17.1% a year ago. And comparable sales were flat. Record revenue came from new stores and new geographies, not from existing stores selling more. Still, the stock soared more than 30% in early trading on Wednesday morning.
One Retailer Didn’t Need the Help
Williams-Sonoma was the standout, and for the right reasons. Comparable brand revenue rose 6.2%, accelerating from 4.8% last quarter, with total revenue up 6.7% and every brand positive. Management raised its full-year outlook. Non-GAAP EPS of $2.10 topped the $2.05 consensus.
That result is genuinely surprising. Home furnishings should be suffering alongside the home-improvement retailers, where Home Depot managed a 1.7% comp and Lowe’s just 0.2%. Williams-Sonoma is instead compounding, which argues the affluent consumer remains healthy and that execution can overcome a frozen housing market.
Kohl’s beat handily on earnings, with EPS of $1.28 against roughly $0.55 expected, improved free cash flow margin, and raised guidance. Operating margin was flat year over year at 7.4% and the top line is still shrinking — investors read the beat as cost control, not demand recovery.
Bath & Body Works beat and raised despite net sales declining 2.3% to $1.51 billion, with adjusted EPS of $0.62 and operating income up to $216 million from $157 million. Management was refreshingly blunt: “Underlying business trends remain pressured.”
What the Consumer Data Actually Says
The macro releases framing these results point in the same direction. Tuesday’s Conference Board index fell to 89.4, its lowest since January, but the internals split sharply: the Present Situation Index rose 6.8 points to 121.2 — its first improvement in four months — while Expectations fell 5.8 points to 68.2, further below the level historically associated with recession risk.
Consumers feel better about today and worse about tomorrow. That is a precise description of defensive spending: keep buying, trade down, defer anything large.
Wednesday’s core PCE rose 0.2% month over month, in line with forecasts. On an annual basis, core hold near 3.3% against the Fed’s 2% target. Prices are still rising faster than consumers believe their incomes will.
The retail data corroborates it. Growth has shifted from price-led to volume-led — driven by units rather than inflation. Traffic is rising at the largest, cheapest operators while ticket has stalled almost everywhere: up 1.1% at Walmart, roughly flat at Target, and down 2.5% at Sam’s Club.
Bottom Line
For investors, three conclusions follow. First, normalize everything. Any Q2 retail margin or EPS comparison that ignores tariff refunds is measuring the refund, not the business.
Second, watch what retailers do with the money. Walmart is putting its $2.9 billion into price rollbacks across food, general merchandise, consumables, and fashion; Target has committed to continued price investment. That is competitively rational and margin-dilutive — meaning the windfall converts into future price cuts rather than future earnings. It also intensifies pressure on mid-tier retailers with no comparable lever.
Third, the durable winners are the ones that didn’t need the help. Williams-Sonoma’s accelerating comps and Sam’s Club’s 7% transaction growth reflect real demand. Abercrombie’s flat comps and Kohl’s shrinking top line do not.
The consumer here is employed, still spending, and increasingly disciplined — defensive, not fragile. That environment rewards scale, price authority, and genuine traffic growth. One-time refunds flatter a quarter. They don’t change the trend.

Williams-Sonoma impresses in its Q2
In addition to growth in comparable sales, Williams-Sonoma posted overall revenue growth of 6.7% to $1.96 billion, topping expectations of $1.93 billion.
The retailer also benefited from IEEPA tariff refunds, which helped drive gross margin up from 47.1% to 51.6%. However, adjusting for the refund, Williams-Sonoma's gross margin would have fallen 160 basis points to 45.5% due to merchandise margins falling by 230 basis points, which the company blamed on other tariff-related expenses.
Williams-Sonoma recorded a $167.8 million reduction in cost of goods sold in the quarter from the tariff refund, and said it had collected nearly all of its $197.8 million refund claim.
It did gain leverage on selling, general, and administrative expenses from comparable sales growth, as adjusted SG&A expenses as a percentage of revenue fell 100 basis points to 27.2%.
Adjusted earnings per share, which excludes the impact of the tariff refunds, rose 5% to $2.10, which edged out the consensus at $2.07.
Williams-Sonoma raised its guidance for the full year, calling for revenue growth of 4.7%-7.2% and comparable sales growth of 4%-6.5%, and an adjusted operating margin of 17.8%-18.2%.
The company reaffirmed its long-term guidance of mid-to-high single-digit annual net revenue growth and an operating margin in the mid-to-high teens.
Why investors shrugged it off
You'd expect a retailer that just delivered 6.2% comparable sales growth, which the company said was all market-share gains, to move higher on the report, and Williams-Sonoma did crawl back its losses over the course of Wednesday's session, finishing up 1.2%.
However, the initial sell-off shows that investors were underwhelmed by the results. Williams-Sonoma trades at a premium at a price-to-earnings ratio of 26.6, which is expensive for a retailer in a struggling sector.
Despite the strong results and guidance hike, investors seem to believe the stock is fully valued, meaning strong quarters like today's are priced in.
Additionally, there's still uncertainty around tariffs, which is visible in the latest trade war between the U.S. and Canada. Williams-Sonoma's guidance assumes that all tariffs currently in place remain in place through the end of the year, including the latest U.S.-Canada tariffs, but the trade environment remains fluid. Excluding the IEEPA refund, tariffs are weighing on the business as adjusted operating margin fell from 17.9% to 17.3%.
In order for the stock to break out of its current range, investors will need to see margin expansion, an improvement in the housing market, or a relaxation of tariffs.
Still, after a quarter with at least 5% comparable sales growth at its three major banners, the stock continues to look like the best-in-class player in home furnishings. After more than tripling over the last three years though, the stock may need to digest a few more quarters like this one before moving higher.

Williams-Sonoma Grew Comps 6.2% and Raised Full-Year Guidance. Here’s the Catch.

Williams-Sonoma, Inc. WSM posted second-quarter fiscal 2026 adjusted earnings of $2.10 per share, up 5% year over year and above the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.05 by 2.4%. Net revenues rose 6.7% to $1.96 billion and beat the consensus mark of $1.91 billion by 2.5%.
Comparable brand revenues increased 6.2%, with every major brand posting positive growth. Broad-based brand gains and supply-chain efficiencies supported the quarter, while tariff costs weighed on merchandise margins. Our model predicted consolidated comps growth of 4% for the fiscal second quarter.
However, WSM shares lost about 5% following the earnings release, likely reflecting investor concerns about profitability. Non-GAAP gross margin and operating margin contracted year over year, as lower merchandise margins, primarily due to tariff-related costs, pressured results. Investor sentiment may also have been tempered by the company’s outlook, which assumes that current tariffs will remain in place and oil prices will stay elevated for the remainder of fiscal 2026, potentially sustaining cost pressures.
WSM's Brand Gains Support Revenue Growth
Pottery Barn remained the largest revenue contributor, generating $770.8 million in the quarter. Comparable brand revenues for Pottery Barn increased 5.1% from the year-ago period compared with 1.1% growth in the prior-year quarter.
West Elm delivered $496.3 million of revenues, with comps up 6.4% compared with 3.3% a year ago. Williams Sonoma, including Williams Sonoma Home, generated $268.8 million and posted 7.6% comparable growth compared with 5.1%. Pottery Barn Kids and Teen recorded $297.4 million in revenues, while comps rose 3.5%. The Other category contributed $126.4 million.
Williams-Sonoma Sees Adjusted Margin Pressure
Non-GAAP gross profit totaled $891.6 million, with gross margin of 45.5%, down 160 basis points (bps) year over year. Lower merchandise margins reduced the rate by 230 bps, primarily because of tariff costs. Supply-chain efficiencies contributed 30 basis points of benefit, while occupancy leverage added 40 bps. Our model predicted a 180-bps year-over-year decline in the gross margin to 45.3% for the fiscal second quarter.
Non-GAAP selling, general and administrative expenses were $553.2 million, up 3.1% year over year. The SG&A rate fell 100 bps to 28.2%, helped by 120 basis points of employment expense leverage. Higher general and advertising expenses each added 10 bps.

WSM's Profitability Reflects Tariff Adjustments
Non-GAAP operating income was $338.5 million, up from $328.06 million a year ago. The adjusted operating margin was 17.3%, down 60 bps from 17.9% in the prior-year quarter as gross-margin pressure offset expense leverage. We anticipated the adjusted operating income to drop 3.9% year over year and the operating margin to contract 140 bps to 16.5% for the fiscal second quarter.
On a GAAP basis, operating income was $448.8 million and operating margin reached 22.9%. During the quarter, WSM recognized $167.8 million of tariff refund income as a reduction to cost of goods sold, partly offset by $47.5 million of vendor concessions and a $10.00 million employee recognition cost. The company excluded these items from non-GAAP results. It also excluded $6.4 million of interest income tied to the tariff refund.
Williams-Sonoma Strengthens Cash Generation
Cash and cash equivalents were $1.03 billion at Aug. 2, 2026, compared with $985.8 million a year earlier. Merchandise inventories were $1.45 billion, up 1.0% year over year, net of $29.3 million of deferred tariff refund income recorded as a reduction of inventory. The deferred amount is expected to be recognized as a reduction to cost of goods sold in the third quarter.
For the first 26 weeks of fiscal 2026, net cash provided by operating activities totaled $695.9 million, up from $401.7 million in the year-ago period. WSM repurchased $287.8 million of common stock and paid $175.4 million in dividends over the same period. Purchases of property and equipment were $116.4 million.
WSM Raises Fiscal 2026 Outlook
Williams-Sonoma raised its fiscal 2026 guidance after strong year-to-date performance. The company now expects annual net revenues to increase 4.7% to 7.2%, with comparable brand revenue growth of 4.0% to 6.5%. Non-GAAP operating margin is projected to be between 17.8% and 18.2%.
The outlook assumes currently imposed tariffs remain in place for fiscal 2026, including Section 232 tariffs and existing and newly announced Section 301 tariffs. It also assumes oil prices stay elevated for the rest of the year and no benefit from tariff refunds or related interest.
WSM expects annual interest income of approximately $25 million and an effective tax rate of approximately 26% on a non-GAAP basis. Its long-term targets remain mid-to-high single-digit annual net revenue growth and an operating margin in the mid-to-high teens.

The Home Depot, Inc. HD has delivered solid second-quarter fiscal 2026 results, with the top and bottom lines surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate. Adjusted earnings were $4.92 per share, up 5.1% year over year from $4.68. The figure topped the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $4.71.
Home Depot reaffirmed its fiscal 2026 outlook, calling for total sales growth of 2.5-4.5% and comps growth of flat to 2%. The company anticipates earnings per share to be flat to up 4% from $14.23 in the year-ago quarter. Meanwhile, adjusted earnings per share are also projected to be flat to up 4% from the $14.69 reported in the year-ago quarter.
Lowe’s Companies, Inc. LOW reported second-quarter fiscal 2026 adjusted earnings of $4.40 per share, up 1.6% year over year, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $4.22. Revenues rose 8.3% to $25,956 million but missed the consensus estimate of $26,135 million.
Lowe’s expects fiscal 2026 total sales of $92 billion compared with its prior range of $92-$94 billion. Comparable sales are projected to be flat, versus the previous expectation of flat to up 2%. The revision reflects first-half operating results and current demand trends.
Wayfair W reported second-quarter 2026 earnings of 95 cents per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 94 cents. Net revenues for the second quarter of 2026 rose 7.5% year over year to $3.52 billion, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $3.47 billion by 1.41%.
For the third quarter of 2026, Wayfair expects revenues to grow in the high single digits year over year. Adjusted EBITDA margin is guided in the 6% to 7% range for the third quarter.

Williams-Sonoma Stock Dips Despite Q2 Earnings and Revenue Beat

Four retailers reported Wednesday morning. All four beat expectations and raised guidance.
Yet a meaningful share of those profits arrived not from selling more to shoppers, but from a Supreme Court decision.
That is the single most important thing investors need to understand about this retail earnings season. The headline numbers look terrific. The underlying businesses are considerably more mixed. Both things are true at once, and telling them apart is now the whole job.
The $166 Billion Distortion
When the Supreme Court struck down the IEEPA tariffs on February 20th, it triggered one of the largest corporate cash windfalls in recent memory. Roughly $166 billion had been collected from some 330,000 importers, and approximately $100 billion had been refunded as of July 31st. Retailers are booking those refunds now, and the amounts are enormous and wildly uneven:
Walmart’s is the largest disclosed by any U.S. company. Lowe’s, at $80 million, received roughly one-ninth of what Home Depot did. That unevenness is precisely why cross-retailer margin comparisons this quarter are close to meaningless unless you normalize for it.

Retail's Big Q2 Beats Came From Washington, Not the Consumer

In early trading on Wednesday, shares of Honeywell International topped the list of the day's best performing components of the S&P 500 index, trading up 7.5%. Year to date, Honeywell International registers a 42.2% gain.
And the worst performing S&P 500 component thus far on the day is Moderna, trading down 6.0%. Moderna is showing a gain of 406.2% looking at the year to date performance.
Two other components making moves today are Williams Sonoma, trading down 5.2%, and J.M. Smucker, trading up 4.9% on the day.

S&P 500 Movers: MRNA, HONIV

Williams-Sonoma (WSM) reported $1.96 billion in revenue for the quarter ended July 2026, representing a year-over-year increase of 6.7%. EPS of $2.10 for the same period compares to $2.00 a year ago.
The reported revenue represents a surprise of +2.45% over the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.91 billion. With the consensus EPS estimate being $2.05, the EPS surprise was +2.44%.
While investors closely watch year-over-year changes in headline numbers -- revenue and earnings -- and how they compare to Wall Street expectations to determine their next course of action, some key metrics always provide a better insight into a company's underlying performance.
