Toyota Motor Corporation designs, manufactures, assembles, and sells passenger vehicles, minivans and commercial vehicles, and related parts and accessories in Japan, North America, Europe, Asia, Central and South America, Oceania, Africa, and the Middle East. It operates in Automotive, Financial Services, and All Other segments. The company offers subcompact and compact cars; mini-vehicles; mid-size, luxury, sports, and specialty cars; recreational and sport-utility vehicles; pickup trucks; minivans; trucks; and buses. It offers vehicles under the Toyota and Lexus brand names. Further, the company provides financial services, such as retail financing and leasing, wholesale financing, insurance, and credit cards. Additionally, it operates GAZOO.com, a web portal for automobile information, as well as engages in telecommunications and other businesses. The company was founded in 1933 and is headquartered in Toyota, Japan.

Toyota appears financially resilient, but in terms of earnings quality and efficiency, the picture is not as strong as the scale of the business suggests. P/E and P/B are noticeably below the industry median, which supports the case for a reasonable valuation; however, P/S and especially P/FCF are above industry benchmarks, so the market is not paying cheaply for revenue and free cash flow. Returns on capital and assets are weak: ROE, ROA, and ROI are significantly below the median, and their trend over recent periods has deteriorated, which limits re-rating potential. Operating margin remains above the industry, but gross margin is below the median and has been gradually declining, indicating pressure on cost of goods sold and the business structure. Net margin looks better than the industry average, but the decline in net income compared with stronger periods last year suggests profitability is not showing a sustained acceleration. At the same time, the balance sheet remains solid: cash on hand has increased very noticeably, the quick ratio is above normal, and equity is growing, which reduces financial risk. Leverage is moderate, with debt/equity only slightly above the median, but debt is rising in absolute terms, so this is not a clear positive for valuation. Revenue grew over the year, supporting scale and the operating base, but the growth has not been accompanied by a comparable improvement in efficiency. The dividend yield of around 1.5% looks stable, but not high enough to materially support upside. Overall, the fundamentals are rather neutral-to-positive in terms of resilience and liquidity, but moderately negative in terms of return on capital quality and margin dynamics. For an investor, this means fair value should be approached cautiously: the company has a strong balance sheet and large scale, but without a clear acceleration in profitability and FCF, the multiples do not deserve meaningful expansion.

That's the bad news for EV companies. The good news is that the recent declines are narrowing.
And the No. 1 EV in this country is proving to be comparatively resilient.
The most popular automobiles on the lot these days aren’t electric vehicles (EVs). Rather, it’s hybrid EV/internal combustion engine (ICE) models that American consumers lately most want to own and drive.
According to research from Kelley Blue Book and its parent company, Cox Automotive, car buyers really put the pedal to the metal with hybrids in the first half of the year. Let’s dive in and get a fix on what this means for the auto industry in general.

The happy medium
In the first six months of 2026, unit sales in the hybrid segment grew by 9% year over year. This is notable given that consumers in this country weren’t particularly eager to buy vehicles; the overall automotive market slumped by more than 2%.
This was reflected in yet another period of decline for EVs, with unit sales in the segment dropping by almost 24%. Pure ICE models also fell, but only by slightly over 3%.
It seems consumers want the fueling convenience of an ICE and the efficiency of an EV in a single vehicle.
Other factors are at work here. This decade, one trend that’s been apparent in Big Auto is the switch to hybrid-only versions of classic auto models. Toyota (NYSE:TM) is a pioneer and still a leader in this. It now sells hybrid-exclusive editions of the storied Camry sedan, the RAV4 crossover SUV, and the Sienna minivan. Stellantis (NYSE:STLA), to name another manufacturer, also went the exclusively hybrid route with one of its classic models, the Jeep Cherokee crossover SUV.
Short-circuited
While this may sound like dire news for EV makers, there’s one key reason for optimism — if we look at quarter-by-quarter sales performance, the situation is actually improving.
In this year’s second quarter, EV unit sales fell by under 21% year over year. Okay, that’s not smile-inducing, but it’s well better than the 27% of the first quarter, and the queasy 36% drop in the final quarter of 2025. Sales actually rose, and briskly, in the third quarter of last year, but much of this was due to the federal government’s cancellation of the $7,500 clean vehicle tax credit for buyers of pure EVs, which took effect late in that year.
Not all EV makers and models are created equal, of course, and some negotiated the curves better than others. Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), the reigning king of the segment, might not have had a stellar second quarter, but its top seller (and the most popular EV in America), the Model Y crossover SUV, did relatively well. The company sold 84,863 units, for a relatively light 1.5% drop from the same period of 2025.
The bad news, Tesla investors, is that we can’t say the same for the company’s No. 2, the Model 3. Unit sales of 34,944 for the sedan in the period represented a more than 28% decline.
Niche players did better. Both the high-end EV specialist Lucid (NASDAQ:LCID) and SUV/pickup maker Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:RIVN) actually saw sales gains in both the quarter and the half-year period. Lucid’s sales notched a 2% increase to 5,103 vehicles in the six-month stretch, while Rivian’s clocked in at almost 14%, to 19,152. By comparison, Tesla’s full lineup posted a nearly 11% decline in the first half.
It was the global incumbents that did the worst, but this is no surprise. Earlier this decade, several pledged to stick to EV development timelines for their lineups. They moved away from this strategy once it was apparent that consumer enthusiasm for such models was waning.
Reflecting that, several incumbents saw deep, double-digit declines in EV unit sales in the first half. Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F), to name but one, experienced a 57% slide to 16,606 EVs.
Niche market
So, for EVs, it seems the niche manufacturers are having the most success. Much of this stems from those strategic shifts by the incumbents, who, in adjusting their strategies, have eased competition for the pure-plays. This especially positions a specialist like Rivian or Lucid for continued growth.
That is, if EVs in general are going to bounce back. Assuming some kind of lasting settlement is reached in the Iran war, oil prices are sure to ease, leading to the same for prices at the gas pump. The great selling point for EVs, then, will be drained of much of its power.
So anyone bullish on a potential EV rebound would probably do best parking capital in a specialized maker. Personally, I feel Tesla isn’t setting effective priorities lately, so I’d give that stock a miss.
I think the hybrid upswing will continue, as the trend seems to be a friend of these best-of-both-worlds models. For anyone wanting to invest in this, the company most enthusiastically embracing hybrids is the well-run and consistently profitable Toyota.

Automotive Sales Driven By Growth in Hybrids In The Second Quarter of 2026

Data center sales will remain the company's key growth engine in the near term, but investors are not paying much for Nvidia's long-term opportunity in physical AI.
Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) stock is up 12% year-to-date, outperforming the Nasdaq's roughly 9% return at the time of writing, but the company is not sitting still. With competition in the semiconductor industry heating up, CEO Jensen Huang wants to keep Nvidia at the frontier of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
In that effort, Huang is positioning the company to lead the race in physical AI, including robots. He recently met with the leaders of several Japanese industrial giants -- including Toyota, Fujitsu Limited, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Fanuc, and Kioxia -- to discuss how they can implement physical AI in their factories.

As Huang stated, "The next frontier of AI is in the physical world, and this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Japan." Three major robotics and automation players -- Kawasaki, Fanuc, and Yaskawa -- are already using Nvidia's technology. This all fits with its strategy to be at the center of every major transition in the world of computing.
What does this mean for Nvidia's prospects?
Nvidia has changed how it will report its financial results to align with its future growth drivers. Based on this new reporting framework, the data center segment reported revenue of $75 billion last quarter, up 92% year over year. The new edge computing segment (robotics, automotive, and PCs) is small by comparison, generating only $6.4 billion in revenue, up 29%.
Physical AI is not going to move the needle for the stock right now. In data center, management expects to book $1 trillion in revenue from its Blackwell and Rubin chips from 2025 through calendar 2027. Its chips and networking products for AI data centers are still its main growth drivers.
But in the long run, physical AI is the next logical step for this technology, and that spells significant growth potential for Nvidia's edge computing business. Similar to its strategy in data centers, Nvidia has put together a full-stack offering that includes its DGX computing systems (Blackwell/Vera Rubin), its Jetson robotics computing platform, and Cosmos for simulating the physical world to accelerate robot development.
As Advanced Micro Devices and Broadcom try to chip away at Nvidia's lead in data centers, Huang is positioning the company for the next big transition in AI. Nvidia's tailored computing solutions for specific industries such as manufacturing give it a competitive advantage. So do its relationships with enterprises and AI researchers around the world.
The recent announcements out of Japan are bullish for Nvidia's long-term prospects, but the data center business will remain the key catalyst for the stock in the near term. The shares do look attractive right now, trading at just 23 times forward earnings, with analysts projecting around 44% annualized earnings growth over the next few years. Investors don't seem to be paying any premium for the long-tail growth potential of the physical AI market over the next few decades.

Tesla, Inc. TSLA is well-positioned to capitalize on the global shift toward cleaner transportation as governments across major economies tighten vehicle emissions standards. Stricter carbon regulations are compelling automakers to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) production and expand model offerings. Tesla Rides Tightening Global Emission Standards for EV Thrust

Due to supplier issues, critical F-150 supplies have dwindled, but Ford is working to recoup lost production through the end of 2026.
For Detroit automakers such as Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), big trucks mean big business. Ford's lucrative F-Series truck lineup is estimated to bring in about one-third of the company's total revenue, and it's long been estimated by Wall Street firms such as Morgan Stanley that it generates as much as 90% of Ford's net profit. During the first six months of 2026, Ford's F-150 now trails a Japanese rival for best-selling vehicle, and that's a big deal for investors.
Wording is key
Let's first clear up some confusing wording. Ford's F-Series has been America's best-selling vehicle for over four decades, but the sales figure comprises the entire line of not only F-150s but also heavy-duty F-250s and larger trucks. Ford's F-150 is one component and has individually been the U.S. industry's top seller for 15 of the past 16 years.

However, thanks to not only one, but two supplier fires dating back to last fall, the aluminum supply and ensuing supply of Ford's important trucks have dwindled during what is historically a strong selling season. Ford wasn't the only major automaker hitting speed bumps; Toyota also had issues, opening the door for Honda's popular CR-V to overtake the Ford F-150, General Motors' Silverado 1500, and Toyota's RAV4.
Honda's CR-V turned up the heat to finish the first half of the year with a 19% U.S. sales surge in May, followed by an even more lucrative 30% jump in June, for a total first-half tally of 226,114 units. While numbers are still trickling in, GlobalData estimates Ford's F-150 has fallen just short of that, with estimates just under 210,000 units, while GM's Silverado 1500 checked in just under 195,000 units. Toyota's RAV4 lost more ground, with reported sales checking in at 153,955.
Through Honda's increased incentives (for now), high lease customer retention rate, and strong demand for hybrids -- the hybrid CR-V accounted for 55% of its total sales during the first half of 2026 -- the CR-V is thriving and has only about 15 days' worth of inventory with its CR-V production lines running at full capacity.
Ford can offset some losses
Late last year, the Novelis supplier plant fire, and its delayed restarting of production due to a second fire, forced management to reduce last year's earnings guidance as it wasn't able to immediately offset production losses. Initially, Ford said the production hiccup would cost it about $1.5 billion to $2 billion in earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT), although it is aiming to add additional shifts to offset about $1 billion of that throughout this year.
While Novelis does supply other major automakers such as Toyota and Stellantis, Ford's impact was more severe due to its F-150 using a primarily aluminum body. Ultimately, Ford's F-150 is losing a sales race it has rarely lost over the past 15 years, but more importantly for investors is how much production it can recoup during the second half of the year. It's certainly a major ongoing development to keep track of.

With 6 Months Wrapped Up, Ford Is Losing a Race It Rarely Loses

Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) stock got hit with a huge pullback last month. The company's share price fell 30.5% over the period, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 declined 1.1% in June, and the Nasdaq Composite fell 2.8%.
While there was little in the way of fresh, business-specific news driving the pullback, the stock saw a massive valuation decline as investors moved out of speculative growth stocks. As of this writing, the stock is now down roughly 47% over the last year.

Archer Aviation stock got crushed in June despite little news
June was a slow news month for Archer Aviation, which makes the stock's huge valuation decline in the month somewhat surprising. On the other hand, there were some macroeconomic catalysts that explain the big pullback.
For starters, investors broadly became more convinced that a move from the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates probably isn't coming any time soon -- and more concerned that the Fed could move to hike rates. The U.S. central banking authority uses rate increases to combat inflation, and accelerating inflation connected to rising energy prices due to the Iran war had investors worried last month that rate increases could arrive this year. That could be trouble for Archer stock.
Even after big sell-offs, Archer Aviation has a market capitalization of roughly $4.1 billion. Meanwhile, the company is valued at approximately 430 times this year's expected sales. Highly growth-dependent stocks tend to perform much better in low-interest rate environments, and they can get hit with huge pullbacks when rates start to rise.
Archer has regained some ground early in July
Archer Aviation stock has seen bullish momentum early in July's trading, with the stock up more than 9% in the month as of this writing. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 is up 0.7%, and the Nasdaq Composite is up roughly 0.3%.
In addition to bullish support for the broader market, Archer stock has climbed higher in conjunction with electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) industry news. On June 30, Joby Aviation announced that it had entered a new joint venture with Toyota to advance manufacturing capabilities for eVTOL aircraft.
While Joby is arguably Archer's biggest competitor, investors appear to view the new partnership as a positive indicator for the broader eVTOL industry. Archer has a similar partnership with Stellantis, and the team-up between Joby and Toyota seems to have investors feeling more bullish about auto manufacturers helping leading eVTOL players eventually reach profitability.

Why Archer Aviation Stock Plummeted Last Month But Is Gaining in July

(RTTNews) - Toyota Motor North America, affiliated to Japanese automajor Toyota Motor Corp. (TM, TYT.L, 7203.T), announced late Monday its plan to invest $3.6 billion to expand its manufacturing campus in San Antonio, Texas.
With the investment, the company plans a second vehicle assembly line to support the Tacoma truck. The expansion would create 2,000 new, high-quality jobs, and add 2.5 million square feet to Toyota Texas, doubling its size by 2030.
With the expansion, Toyota's local workforce will climb to around 6,000 team members, supported by 23 on-site suppliers and their employees. Toyota Texas campus, which already includes a vehicle assembly line and new rear axle plant that is nearing startup, assembled more than 197,000 vehicles last year alone.
Over an approximate four-year period, Toyota's North American unit will transition Tacoma production to the expanded Toyota Texas plant from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Baja California or TMMBC. Toyota noted that the San Antonio plant is the exclusive home of the Tundra and Sequoia, both assembled on the same production line.
It is expected that the new facility will enable increased flexibility for the plant through advanced manufacturing technologies.
Total investment in San Antonio since breaking ground in 2003 would be $8.3 billion.
President and CEO Ted Ogawa, TMNA, said, "Toyota's continued investment in North America is a testament to our confidence in the region's workforce, innovation and long-term growth potential. By expanding our San Antonio plant, we are deepening our commitment to American manufacturing, creating meaningful and sustainable jobs, while advancing our mission to deliver high-quality vehicles that meet the changing needs of customers today and into the future."
In Japan, Toyota shares were trading at ¥ 2,947.00, up 0.82 percent.

Toyota To Invest $3.6 Bln To Expand San Antonio, Texas Plant, Add 2,000 Jobs To Support Tacoma Truck

(RTTNews) - Toyota Motor North America, affiliated to Japanese automajor Toyota Motor Corp. (TM, TYT.L, 7203.T), reported late Wednesday higher vehicle sales for the month of June as well as in the second quarter.
In Tokyo, the shares were gaining around 3.1 percent, trading at ¥2,807.50.
In the overnight trading on the NYSE, the shares were trading 1.9 percent higher at $172.88.
In the month of June, U.S. sales were 212,793 vehicles, up 10.1 percent on a volume basis and up 5.7 percent on a daily selling rate or DSR basis, from the same period last year. Sales of electrified vehicles totaled 122,063 units, up 35.0 percent on a volume basis and up 29.6 percent on a DSR basis. Electrified vehicles represented 57.4 percent of total sales volume.
Toyota division posted June sales of 183,627 vehicles, up 11.2 percent on a volume basis. Lexus division's June sales were 29,166 vehicles, up 3.9 percent on a volume basis from last year.
For the second quarter, TMNA's sales were 673,971 vehicles, up 1.1 percent on a volume basis and up 1.1 percent on a DSR basis year-over-year. Sales of electrified vehicles were 383,091 units, up 19.5 percent on a volume basis. Electrified vehicles represented 56.8 percent of total sales volume in the quarter.
Toyota division reported sales of 585,211 vehicles in the quarter, up 2.6 percent year-over-year on a volume basis.
For the quarter, Lexus division's sales were 88,760 vehicles, down 7.5 percent on a volume basis.

Toyota Motor North America Vehicle Sales Rise In June, Q2; Stock Gains

Much like its next-generation air taxis, Joby Aviation (NYSE:JOBY) stock floated impressively higher after a new manufacturing joint venture with Toyota Motor (NYSE:TM) was announced. Joby’s shares flew to a more than 3% gain on Tuesday, easily topping the 0.8% rise of the benchmark S&P 500 index.
Here are the details of the deal as we know them, along with a few words on why it matters to the company.

Deepening partnership
That morning, in a joint press release, Joby and Toyota announced they had formed a joint venture. According to a regulatory filing posted at roughly the same time, the enterprise bears the very chunky name Joby Toyota Aero Manufacturing Preparation Company (JTAMPC). Toyota holds a 51% majority stake, and Joby owns the rest.
The two companies described the formation of JTAMPC as the “initial phase of their strategic manufacturing alliance.”
It will aim to lay the foundations for the commercial production of Joby’s electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. These are small craft that seat four passengers and a pilot, and combine elements of airplanes and helicopters. They are to be used for air taxi services initially planned for cities such as New York.
In my view, the timing is very good because Joby has secured the air carrier operator certificate required by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to operate a commercial air taxi service in this country. It’s also in the concluding stages of earning the remaining two mandatory certificates — aircraft type and production. Its status is similar in the United Arab Emirates, which effectively grants similar approval once a potential licensee receives the FAA’s green light.
JTAMPC is the latest iteration of the years-long cooperation between Joby and the Japanese automotive giant. The latter’s Toyota AI Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm, led a 2018 funding round for Joby and repeated the feat in 2020 with a much larger fundraising effort. In 2023, the two companies signed a long-term supply agreement under which Toyota will provide certain components for the eVTOLs. Finally, in 2024, the carmaker made a direct, $500 million investment in Joby.
Those fundraising rounds and the $500 million injection have given Toyota a substantial equity stake in its partner. In fact, Toyota is Joby’s single largest institutional investor, with a roughly 13% holding.
Passing the test
The creation of the joint venture is also timely, as it comes just over two months after Joby conducted a series of tests in its target U.S. lead market, New York City. One of its flagship models, the S4, flew a series of runs between JFK Airport in Queens and several heliports in downtown Manhattan. By repeatedly putting the aircraft through its paces, Joby advanced that much further toward securing the FAA’s final nods for full commercial operation.
These are exciting times for the company. Toyota’s ever-deepening involvement is a nice investor morale-booster, sure, but more powerfully, it shows that the Japanese automotive titan believes in Joby’s potential enough to help the American company realize it. I don’t blame investors at all for being bullish on Joby stock following the news.

Joby Aviation's Stock Is Rising After Teaming Up With Toyota For a New Manufacturing Venture

(RTTNews) - Joby Aviation, Inc. (JOBY), an air mobility company, Tuesday announced the launch of its initial phase of strategic manufacturing alliance with Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation (TM) by establishing a joint venture to realize air mobility.
The strategic alliance will combine Joby's work in electric aviation with Toyota's expertise in production systems and operational excellence to establish groundwork for commercial production, and advance manufacturing excellence.
Going forward, this alliance will also aid expansion of Joby's production capacity to support aircraft certification and meet anticipated growth in demand for its electric vertical take-off and landing or eVTOL aircraft.
In pre-market activity, JOBY shares were trading at $9, up 4.54% on the Nasdaq and TM shares were trading at $169.10, down 1.39% on the New York Stock Exchange.

Many electric vehicle (EV) stocks skyrocketed in 2021, when interest rates were low, and consumers ramped up vehicle purchases after the pandemic. But many of those stocks fizzled as inflation drove up their expenses and interest rates spiked in 2022 and 2023.
The market's interest in EV stocks remains tepid, since many growth-oriented investors are chasing hotter AI stocks. Yet the EV market is still expanding -- so it could be a great time to buy Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN), BYD (OTC: BYDDY), and Joby Aviation (NYSE: JOBY)

Rivian Automotive
When Rivian went public in 2021, it initially sold three vehicles: the R1T pickup, R1S SUV, and custom electric delivery vans (EDVs) for Amazon. It subsequently produced custom EDVs for other companies and launched its cheaper R2 SUV earlier this year.
Rivian has struggled to ramp up its production. After more than doubling its production to 57,232 vehicles in 2023, that figure dropped to 49,476 in 2024 and 42,284 in 2025. It attributed that slowdown to its supply chain constraints, reduced EV subsidies, and intense competition. Its high starting prices ($77,500 for the R1T and R1S) further limited its mainstream appeal.
However, it expects the R2, which starts at $57,990, to expand its addressable market and boost its annual deliveries to 62,000-67,000 vehicles this year. It plans to launch an even cheaper version of the R2, starting at around $45,000, in late 2027. Selling a higher mix of R2 SUVs will also boost Rivian's gross margins, since it's cheaper to manufacture than the R1.
From 2025 to 2028, analysts expect Rivian's revenue to more than triple, with its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) turning positive in the final year. With an enterprise value of $22.6 billion, it trades at just three times this year's sales -- and it could command a higher valuation if it proves its business model is sustainable.
BYD
BYD, China's largest automaker, surpassed Tesla as the world's largest EV maker by annual vehicle sales in 2025. It sold 4.6 million vehicles in 2025, compared to its 1.9 million vehicles in 2022 -- the year it entirely phased out its gas-powered vehicles.
Today, BYD sells plug-in hybrid EVs (PHEVs) and battery-powered EVs (BEVs). It differentiates itself from its competitors by producing its own lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, which are safer, cheaper, and more power-efficient than conventional lithium-ion batteries. It also created a vertically integrated supply chain by producing its own motors, chips, and power electronics.
BYD is expanding into Asia, Europe, and Latin America to reduce its dependence on China. In China, it's upgrading its own fast-charging network, increasing its production capacity, and integrating new AI features into its mid-range vehicles. It's also unified its production lines with its e-Platform 3.0 architecture across multiple vehicles.
From 2025 to 2028, analysts expect BYD's revenue and EPS to grow at CAGRs of 13% and 23%, respectively. At 14 times this year's earnings, it's a bargain relative to its growth potential.
Joby Aviation
Joby produces electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Its S4 eVTOL carries a single pilot and four passengers, travels up to 150 miles on a single charge, and reaches a maximum speed of 200 miles per hour. The S4 can fly faster and farther than many other eVTOLs because it uses lighter tilt-rotor propellers that alternate between lifting and cruising modes, instead of the separate lifting and cruising propellers used by its competitors.
Big investors and customers, including Toyota, Delta Air Lines, and Uber, already back Joby. Toyota will help Joby manufacture its commercial eVTOLs, Delta will use the S4 for its airport-to-home air taxi services, and Uber will integrate its flights into its new Uber Air platform. It has already completed test flights in the UAE, South Korea, and Japan, and plans to launch its first commercial flights in the U.S. in the near future.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) hasn't fully certified Joby's commercial flights yet, but that certification could significantly boost its sales over the next decade. Analysts expect its revenue to rise nearly ninefold from 2025 to 2028.
With an enterprise value of $8.7 billion, it might seem pricey at 78 times this year's sales. But it has plenty of upside potential: according to Eve Air Mobility's Global Market Outlook, there could be 30,000 eVTOLs carrying three billion passengers by 2045.
