AT&T Inc. provides telecommunications and technology services worldwide. The company operates through two segments, Communications and Latin America. The Communications segment offers wireless voice and data communications services; and sells handsets, wireless data cards, wireless computing devices, carrying cases/protective covers, and wireless chargers through its own company-owned stores, agents, and third-party retail stores. It also provides Virtual Private Networks, AT&T Dedicated Internet, Ethernet, data services, cloud solutions, outsourcing, and managed professional services, as well as customer premises equipment for multinational corporations, small and mid-sized businesses, governmental, and wholesale customers. In addition, this segment offers broadband services, including fiber connections, legacy telephony voice communication services, and other VoIP services and equipment to residential customers. This segment markets its communications services and products under the AT&T, AT&T Business, Cricket, AT&T PREPAID, and AT&T Fiber brand names. The Latin America segment provides postpaid and prepaid wireless services in Mexico under the AT&T and Unefon brand names, as well as sells smartphones through its owned stores, agents and third-party retail stores. The company was formerly known as SBC Communications Inc. and changed its name to AT&T Inc. in 2005. AT&T Inc. was incorporated in 1983 and is based in Dallas, Texas.

Companies that meet or exceed these expectations often demonstrate high levels of customer loyalty and engagement, leading to predictive operational outperformance.
In 2026, Brand Keys' CLEI examined 1,119 brands across 106 categories, including wireless services, and a familiar company took the crown.
Surprise! This is America's favorite wireless service for a 17th consecutive year.
Before declaring the winner, it's worth noting that all three of America's major wireless providers are thriving. AT&T and T-Mobile clocked in with postpaid phone churn rates of just 0.98% and 0.93%, respectively, in 2025. Meanwhile, Verizon expects retail postpaid net phone additions to total 750,000 to 1 million in 2026, which is two or three times more than it recorded last year.
Though all three of America's wireless service powerhouses are chugging along nicely, the loyalty and engagement crown goes to AT&T for a 17th consecutive year.
Why AT&T? To begin with, branding and coverage help. AT&T is America's oldest phone company (founded in March 1885) and covers over 99% of the U.S. population. With few exceptions, people who want 4G LTE or 5G wireless service can access it on AT&T's wireless network.
AT&T hasn't been afraid to aggressively invest in its network, either. Including the acquisition of spectrum, America's favorite wireless service provider spent over $150 billion on its network from 2020 through 2024. It's currently in the process of adding another 50 megahertz of low-and-mid-band spectrum covering roughly 400 U.S. markets from EchoStar to bolster its 5G services. This $23 billion deal is expected to close in mid-2026.

These investments have earned AT&T some important accolades in the eyes of consumers. Last year, RootMetrics dubbed AT&T as the "Best Overall," "Most Reliable," and "Fastest" wireless network. Distinction is challenging to come by against top-performers Verizon and T-Mobile, but AT&T's ongoing investments in its network, coupled with improved balance sheet flexibility, have clearly made a difference.
Perhaps the unsung hero of AT&T's wireless service success and historically low churn rate of less than 1% is its surge in broadband net additions. Although broadband isn't the growth story it was at the start of the century, 5G internet serves as the perfect dangling carrot for AT&T to encourage higher-margin service bundling.
AT&T has demonstrated it's the cream of the crop of America's wireless services industry.

America Has Chosen Its Favorite Wireless Service: Is It AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile?

Verizon Communications Inc. VZ is benefiting from healthy traction in the wireless vertical backed by competitive price offers and diligent execution. In the fourth quarter, the company reported wireless retail postpaid phone gross adds of 3.5 million, up 13% year over year. Consumer postpaid phone gross adds were 2.7 million, up 15.3% year over year. It also reported 5.6 million postpaid upgrades, up 8.7% year over year. Its wireless retail postpaid ARPA was $147.36 at the end of the fourth quarter, up 1.2% year over year.
The company has been focusing on customer experience improvements and better value propositions to improve churn over time. Moreover, its strategy of bundling wireless services with broadband products is also improving churn. When customers get dependent on multiple services from a single vendor, it becomes difficult for them to change service providers. This higher switching friction lowers churn rate and boosts customer retention.
Fixed wireless access broadband remains a major growth engine. In the fourth quarter, fixed wireless net adds were 319,000. The prepaid wireless business is also showing positive momentum. In the fourth quarter, the company reported 109,000 prepaid net adds, its sixth consecutive quarter of user growth.
Verizon expects strong growth in wireless subscribers in 2026. The company expects 750,000 to 1 million postpaid phone net adds in 2026, indicating 2-3x growth compared to 2025. However, wireless service revenue growth is expected to remain flat.
Strong network investments are supporting wireless growth. The company reports that c-band deployment is 90% complete, and investment in 5G and RAN is ongoing. Moreover, the strategy of AI integration in wireless operations to predict potential issues and optimize the overall operations is positive.
How Are Competitors Faring?
Verizon faces competition from T-Mobile, US, Inc. TMUS and AT&T, Inc. T in the wireless industry.
During the quarter, T-Mobile added 2.4 million postpaid net customers and 261,000 postpaid net accounts. Postpaid phone net customer additions were 962,000. The postpaid phone churn rate was 1.02%. 5G broadband net customer additions were 495,000. Postpaid average revenues per account rose to $150.17 from $146.28 in the year-ago quarter. T-Mobile boasts a strong position in the 5G market. The company’s 5G network covers 98% or 330 million people in the country. T-Mobile continues to deploy 5G with the mid-band 2.5 GHz spectrum from Sprint.
AT&T witnessed solid subscriber momentum with 641,000 post-paid net additions. This included 421,000 postpaid wireless phone additions. Postpaid churn was 1.12%, while postpaid phone-only average revenue per user (ARPU) decreased marginally year over year to $56.57 due to lower international roaming. AT&T is also aggressively expanding its 5G network, currently covering more than 316 million people nationwide. Its 5G service entails the utilization of millimeter wave spectrum for deployment in dense pockets, while in suburban and rural areas, the company intends to deploy 5G on mid and low-band spectrum holdings.

Verizon has gained 15.8% in the past year against the Wireless National industry’s decline of 4.4%.

Unlimited Your Way now includes AT&T Value 2.0SM, an entry level plan for value-conscious customers with the option to mix-and-match with other new plans. AT&T Upgrades Wireless Rate Plans; Unlimited Your Way Now Includes AT&T Value 2.0

AT&T (T) closed the most recent trading day at $27.16, moving -1.98% from the previous trading session. This change lagged the S&P 500's 0.08% loss on the day. At the same time, the Dow lost 0.61%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 0.08%.
Shares of the telecommunications company witnessed a gain of 1.09% over the previous month, beating the performance of the Computer and Technology sector with its loss of 2.38%, and the S&P 500's loss of 2.16%.
The upcoming earnings release of AT&T will be of great interest to investors. The company's earnings report is expected on April 22, 2026. The company is predicted to post an EPS of $0.55, indicating a 7.84% growth compared to the equivalent quarter last year. Here's Why AT&T (T) is a Strong Momentum Stock

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Tuesday fell -0.21%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) fell -0.07%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) fell -0.04%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) fell -0.11%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) rose +0.08%.
Bearish factors for stocks included Tuesday’s rise of more than +5 bp in the 10-year T-note yield and continued jitters about the war in Iran. The Pentagon said the US military conducted its most intensive day of bombing yet on Tuesday. Also, the largest refinery in the UAE was forced to close due to a drone attack, and there was a report of an explosion involving a tanker near the UAE.

Stocks had underlying support from Tuesday’s -12% plunge in oil prices, which was positive for the US economy and dovish for Fed policy. Stocks also received support from the stronger-than-expected US Feb existing home sales report, which rose +1.7% m/m to 4.09 million, versus expectations of a decline to 3.88 million.
WTI oil prices on Tuesday fell sharply by -12% on President Trump’s insistence that the Iran war will be over very soon, and as plans are being laid for a possible G-7 release of oil stockpiles. G-7 finance ministers said on Monday that the G-7 nations stand ready to release oil stockpiles if needed. G-7 energy ministers met Tuesday at the International Energy Agency in Paris, where they discussed a coordinated release of G-7 oil stockpiles.
President Trump said on Monday that the Iran war is “pretty much” over. At a press conference Monday evening, President Trump was asked when the war would end, and he answered, “I think soon, very soon.”
Crude oil prices also fell on Tuesday after US Energy Secretary Chris Wright posted on social media that the US Navy had escorted a tanker through the Strait of Hormuz, raising market hopes that the US military was beginning an escort mission to reopen the Strait. However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said later on Tuesday that the Wright post was erroneous and that the US Navy did not escort a tanker through the Strait. That denial caused oil prices to rise from the daily lows.
Iran has shown no signs of backing down, despite the withering air campaign launched by Israel and the US. Iran's Assembly of Experts over the weekend appointed hardliner Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's new supreme leader, the son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran's new leader has close ties to Iran's powerful and entrenched Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). President Trump said he is "not happy" with the choice of the new leader.
Q4 earnings season is nearly over, with more than 95% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 74% of the 492 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 0% chance for a -25 bp rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets closed higher on Tuesday, supported by Monday afternoon’s recovery in US stocks. The Euro Stoxx 50 rose +2.67%, following Monday’s -0.61% loss. China's Shanghai Composite closed up +0.65%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed up +2.88%, recovering part of Monday’s sharp -5.2% loss.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) fell by -1 tick. The 10-year T-note yield rose +5.8 bp to 4.154%. The 10-year T-note yield rose amid soft demand at the 3-year T-note auction and confirmation that the US Navy did not escort a tanker through the Strait of Hormuz, which dashed hopes that the US Navy was beginning a program to reopen the Strait and boosted safe-haven demand.
Also, the 10-year breakeven inflation expectations rate on Tuesday rose by +1.8 bp to 2.347% despite the plunge in oil prices. The stronger-than-expected US existing home sales report also pushed the T-note yield higher.
Treasury supply pressures are a bearish factor this week, with the Treasury due to sell 10-year T-notes on Wednesday and 30-year bonds on Thursday.

Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE) fell by -3.4% after reporting slightly weaker-than-expected revenue, although other results beat expectations.
AT&T (T) rose +0.5% after saying it will spend more than $250 billion over the next five years to expand its telecom network infrastructure in the US, more than doubling its recent capital investment.
Casey’s General Stores (CASY) rose +3.7% despite reporting disappointing revenue for fiscal Q3.
Strive Inc (ASST) rose more than +5%, while Strategy Inc (MSTR) fell -0.5%, after B. Riley Securities initiated coverage of the Bitcoin treasury companies with buy ratings.

Stocks End Slightly Lower as T-note Yields Rise

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) is up +0.28%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) is up +0.39%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is up +0.49%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) are up +0.40%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) are up +0.58%.
Stocks are trading higher today on the -11% plunge in oil prices, which is positive for the US economy and dovish for Fed policy. Oil prices are sharply lower on President Trump’s insistence that the Iran war will be over very soon, and as plans are being laid for a coordinated G-7 release of oil stockpiles.

Stocks are also seeing support from today’s stronger-than-expected US Feb existing home sales report of +1.7% m/m to 4.09 million, versus expectations of a decline to 3.88 million.
However, bearish factors for stocks include today’s +1.0 bp rise in the 10-year T-note yield and new Iranian attacks in the Persian Gulf. Also, the Pentagon said the US military is today conducting its most intensive day of bombing yet.
An Iranian drone attack today caused the biggest refinery in the UAE at the Ruwais Industrial Complex to halt operations due to a fire in the complex. Also, Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency reported an explosion today involving a tanker near Abu Dhabi, but no further details were available.
Despite those disruptions, April WTI crude oil futures prices are down -11% today, erasing part of the sharp rally seen in the past 1-1/2 weeks. Oil prices on Monday spiked to a high of $119.48 after Israel over the weekend bombed 30 Iranian fuel depots. However, WTI oil prices have since fallen to the $84-per-barrel area after President Trump said on Monday that the Iran war is “pretty much” over, and after G-7 finance ministers said on Monday that the G-7 nations stand ready to release oil stockpiles if needed. At a press conference Monday evening, President Trump was asked when the war would end, and he answered, “I think soon, very soon.”
G-7 energy ministers met earlier today at the International Energy Agency in Paris, where they discussed a coordinated release of G-7 oil stockpiles.
Iran has shown no signs of backing down, despite the withering air campaign launched by Israel and the US. Iran's Assembly of Experts over the weekend appointed hardliner Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's new supreme leader, the son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran's new leader has close ties to Iran's powerful and entrenched Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). President Trump said he is "not happy" with the choice of the new leader.
Q4 earnings season is nearly over, with more than 95% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 74% of the 492 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 0% chance for a -25 bp rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets are higher today, supported by Monday afternoon’s recovery in US stocks. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up +3.02%, following Monday’s -0.61% loss. China's Shanghai Composite today closed up +0.65%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed up +2.88%, recovering part of Monday’s sharp -5.2% loss.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) today are up +8.5 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is up +1.0 bp at 4.105%. The T-note yield is trading higher today amid ongoing inflation concerns, with the 10-year breakeven inflation expectations rate up +0.7 bp to 2.337%. Also, the T-note yield saw upward pressure from the stronger-than-expected US existing home sales report.
European government bond yields are lower. The 10-year German bund yield is down -2.1 bp at 2.838%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is down -9.4 bp at 4.553%.

Stocks Move Higher as Oil Prices Plunge

He added, “We are ready.”

Stocks Pressured By Higher Bond Yields and Persian Gulf Strikes

Lumen Technologies LUMN is restructuring the balance sheet as it pivots toward becoming an enterprise-focused digital infrastructure provider. Management has been focused on deleveraging and has taken several steps over the past year to reduce debt, simplify its capital structure and boost financial flexibility.
The recent sale of Mass Markets' fiber-to-the-home business (including Quantum Fiber, across 11 states) to AT&T T for $5.75 billion in cash is a defining pivot.
Upon completion of the transaction, management used cash on hand and $4.8 billion in net proceeds to fully retire super-priority bonds, thereby lowering annual cash interest expense by an additional $300 million. Total debt now reduced to less than $13 billion, down more than $5 billion since January 2025. Over the past 12 months, Lumen executed seven refinancing transactions totaling more than $11 billion.
Annual interest expense has been reduced by nearly $500 million in the past 12 months, unlocking massive cash flow gains. It also previously eliminated second-lien debt. For 2026, Lumen expects net cash interest expense between $650 million and $750 million, which should provide greater financial flexibility.
The sale of the fiber-to-the-home business reduces annual capex by more than $1 billion, allowing Lumen to focus investment on enterprise and AI infrastructure.
Despite these reduction efforts, Lumen’s debt remains substantial compared with its current revenue base. In the fourth quarter, LUMN reported revenues of $3.041 billion, while 2025 revenues were $12.4 billion. As of Dec. 31, 2025, the company had $1 billion in cash and cash equivalents with $17.353 billion of long-term debt compared with the respective figures of $2.4 billion and $17.578 billion as of Sept. 30, 2025.
While the company continues to manage a considerable debt, the combination of reduced leverage, lower interest costs, and declining capex could enhance the financial flexibility as it executes the long-term strategy.
Snapshot of Competitors’ Balance Sheet
Compared with telecom giants like AT&T and Verizon VZ, Lumen’s debt load appears relatively small. As of Dec. 31, 2025, AT&T had $18.23 billion of cash and cash equivalents with long-term debt of $127.09 billion compared with respective tallies of $3.3 billion and $118.44 billion a year ago. Net debt to adjusted EBITDA was about 2.53X.
However, AT&Thas a large revenue base and generates stable cash flows. AT&T is the second-largest wireless service provider in North America and one of the world’s leading communications service carriers. For 2025, AT&T recorded revenues of $125.6 billion compared with $122.3 billion in 2024, while it generated $40.3 billion of cash from operations and a free cash flow of $16.6 billion.
Verizon, a wireless carrier giant, had $19.05 billion in cash and cash equivalents with $139.53 billion of long-term debt as of Dec. 31, 2025.
In comparison, Verizon recorded total revenues of $138.19 billion in 2025, up 2.5% year over year. It generated $37.14 billion of net cash from operating activities in 2025 compared with $36.91 billion in 2024. Free cash flow was $20.13 billion for 2025 compared with $19.82 billion in the prior-year period. Nonetheless, despite high revenues, such a hefty debt load remains concerning. Investors will be monitoring how these giants plan to deleverage in the coming days.
