The artificial intelligence (AI) chip craze can't be discussed without including the behemoth Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (NYSE: TSM). The third-party chip manufacturer has been one of the standout stocks of the past year, up nearly 80%. That substantial rise has pushed the company's valuation past $2 trillion, but investors are starting to question how long the chip boom will last. Is TSMC too expensive now?
TSMC's growth has been impressive. In the second quarter, its revenue jumped 36% year over year, while net income and diluted earnings per share rose 77.4%. The company's strong free cash flow has given it an enviable balance sheet, and its dividend payouts have more than doubled in the past three years.

Chip demand isn't slowing, and TSMC is also pursuing new opportunities. For example, it's in the process of setting up a joint venture with Sony (NYSE: SONY) to produce next-generation image sensors. That multibillion-dollar collaboration will supply high-performance camera sensors for iPhones and future physical-AI use cases. The duo is targeting mass production by 2029.
The stock isn't cheap, but its valuation metrics are still quite reasonable. The company's forward P/E ratio is just 25, while the trailing P/E ratio is 36. TSMC's five-year PEG ratio is almost exactly 1, implying the stock is fairly priced.
Given the new partnership with Sony and the expectation for continued high chip demand through the second half of this decade, TSMC may not be a bargain, but it is still surely worth buying and holding. No, Taiwan Semiconductor is not too expensive for investors looking to hold it for the long haul.

Demand for Chips Shows No Signs of Slowing. Is Taiwan Semiconductor Too Expensive Now?

A weakening yen has helped to boost the country's exports.
Japan's dependence on foreign oil remains a risk, however.
The U.S. Treasury recently intervened in currency markets to prop up the Japanese yen, which hit a four-month low against other major world currencies.
The Japanese currency has been weakening against the dollar for years and hit a 40-year low against the greenback in July. That's primarily because the Bank of Japan has kept its benchmark interest rate low for years. Global capital tends to flow to countries with higher interest rates, so currency traders have been selling the yen to buy the dollar, pushing the yen lower.

Yet despite the weakening yen, the Japanese stock market is doing very well this year. That market is up about 19% so far in 2026, as measured by the iShares MSCI Japan Index Fund (NYSEMKT: EWJ). That handily beats the S&P 500 index, which is up about 13% year to date.
Several sectors are driving Japan's market higher this year, including technology, financials, basic materials, and industrials, according to Yardeni Research.
Japan is an exporting powerhouse
And while you might think a weakening currency is a sign of a faltering economy, a weaker yen is actually very good for Japanese exporters like Toyota Motor (NYSE: TM), industrial equipment powerhouse Hitachi, and electronics giant Sony Group (NYSE: SONY). Toyota is the world's largest auto manufacturer; it sold more than 11.3 million vehicles last year out of a total of about 96 billion last year.
Japan's economy expanded at an annualized rate of 2.1% in the first quarter, beating expectations. Exports rose 11.5% year over year, driven primarily by a 29% increase in shipments of semiconductor equipment. Tokyo Electron is one of the world's largest manufacturers of chip-making equipment and a very hot stock to boot.
Japan's economy, with a gross domestic product (GDP) of about $4.4 trillion, is the world's fourth largest, behind only the U.S., China, and Germany.
As a result of the weak yen and strong exports and economic growth, I'm very bullish on Japan right now.
There is one major risk facing the country's economy, however: energy. Japan imports about 97% of its oil supply, and about 90% of that comes from the Middle East region. So, supply disruptions and oil price spikes could slow its economy. Japan has increased efforts to source its oil from the U.S., but if the Persian Gulf conflict continues to push oil prices higher, oil will remain more expensive regardless of its source, since it trades on global markets.
That said, I still believe Japanese stocks are worth a look, and the iShares MSCI Japan Index exchange-traded fund (ETF) is a great way to gain exposure to the entire Japanese market.

Despite the Weakening Yen, Japan's Stock Market Is Outperforming. Here's How to Invest.

Investors have been booking profits in memory stocks lately, but this doesn't seem like the right move to make right now.
The incredible earnings growth that Micron and Sandisk are projected to deliver makes them no-brainer buys, given their valuations.
Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) and Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) have been among the hottest stocks on the market this year, delivering stunning returns to investors due to their phenomenal revenue and earnings growth.
Micron stock has nearly tripled in 2026 already, while Sandisk has clocked a terrific jump of 489%. However, both memory stocks have recently experienced significant pullbacks. While shares of Micron have retreated 22% after hitting a 52-week high on June 25, Sandisk is down 30% since reaching its 52-week high on June 22.

However, these pullbacks have nothing to do with the memory market's prospects. Instead, Wall Street is worried that rising memory costs could reduce demand for products such as smartphones and consoles, thereby hurting the margins of companies selling consumer electronics. But it is a pretty well-known fact that the sales of smartphones, personal computers (PCs), and consoles have been declining due to the memory shortage, and this hasn't done anything to dent the prospects of Micron and Sandisk.
As such, the recent pullback in these high-flying growth stocks is a buying opportunity. Let me explain why.
The memory market isn't dictated by smartphones and PCs anymore
There was a time when poor sales of smartphones, PCs, and consoles negatively impacted memory demand, as these devices were the primary consumers of these chips. For instance, Micron's financial performance was woeful in 2022 due to a decline in smartphone and PC sales. Market research firm IDC estimates that smartphone sales in 2026 could drop almost 14%, while PC shipments could shrink by 11.3%.
Additionally, U.S. shipments of Sony's PlayStation 5 console dropped 58% year over year last month, while Xbox units dropped 12%. Ideally, the steep declines in shipments of these consumer devices should have wrecked the memory market, causing oversupply and price declines. However, that hasn't been the case due to artificial intelligence (AI).
AI data centers require faster compute and more storage to run AI workloads, such as training models and running inference applications. AI accelerator chips, such as graphics cards and custom AI processors, need to be fed large data sets quickly so they don't sit idle and waste energy. This is where the incredibly fast high-bandwidth memory (HBM) steps in.
HBM is manufactured by packaging multiple dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) dies vertically, which explains why it offers at least 10x the bandwidth of conventional DRAM, depending on the configuration. So, HBM is ideal for handling AI data center workloads. And because HBM is made by stacking multiple DRAM chips, it uses 3x the wafer capacity of conventional DRAM.
HBM has created a structural change in the memory market. More than half of the DRAM that's manufactured is now used in data centers, according to Counterpoint Research. Also, HBM demand isn't going to slow down any time soon, with Bloomberg Intelligence estimating that this market could clock annual growth of 42% through 2033.
Also, as AI workloads are data-intensive, the demand for NAND flash is also rising at a phenomenal pace. According to McKinsey, shipments of NAND flash-based enterprise solid-state drives (SSDs) could increase at an annual rate of 35% through 2030 in a base-case scenario, primarily due to generative AI adoption.
As a result, it won't be surprising to see shipments of consumer electronics devices remain under pressure going forward, as memory makers scramble to address the requirements of data centers. Moreover, memory industry participants note that the additional capacity they plan to bring online may not be enough to address the shortage.
So, the recent sell-off in Sandisk and Micron doesn't seem justified. But the good news is that investors can now buy these AI stocks at attractive levels.
Buying Micron and Sandisk is a no-brainer right now
Sandisk's latest fiscal 2026 has just ended, and analysts are forecasting that the company's earnings grew by a whopping 2,120% during the year to $66.41 per share. Similarly, Micron's earnings in the ongoing fiscal year are anticipated to jump by 785% to $73.32 per share. The solid prospects of the memory market explain why analysts have become bullish about their prospects and anticipate their terrific growth to continue.
What's more, both stocks are trading at really attractive levels when their stunning earnings growth is considered.
The tech-laden Nasdaq Composite index, for comparison, has an average earnings multiple of 39. Given that the AI-fueled growth of the memory market is poised to continue, it won't be surprising to see Sandisk and Micron delivering the outstanding bottom-line growth that analysts are anticipating.
That's why savvy investors can consider capitalizing on the recent pullback in these two stocks, as it won't be long before they regain their mojo and start soaring once again.

Memory Stock Sell-Off: Is This the Time to Buy Micron Technology and Sandisk Like There's No Tomorrow?

GameStop's model once relied primarily on the sale -- and, more importantly, the resale -- of video games.
GameStop is trading at a reasonable earnings multiple, and it has enough cash to keep shopping for change after being rebuffed by eBay.
There are plenty of things weighing on GameStop (NYSE: GME) these days. Annual revenue is now 61% lower than when it peaked 14 fiscal years ago, and that's without accounting for inflation. Despite its meme-stock appeal, the small-box retailer of video games and collectibles has seen its sales contract in each of the past four fiscal years.
It tried to shake things up with an unsolicited buyout offer for eBay (NASDAQ: EBAY) two months ago, but GameStop has been outbid by reality. This week, the chain got another worrying sign: Sony (NYSE: SONY) announced on Monday that it will cease physical game disc production for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles starting in 2028.

Spin doctors
Time hasn't been on GameStop's side for years, but now there's a date for the potential end. We're now 18 months away from when one of the three leading console makers goes solely digital in distributing new titles. Sure, you can buy access to digital codes through brick-and-mortar retailers. It's just become less necessary to do so in person. Console makers and software developers are cutting out the middleman.
The digital migration isn't new, and some consoles have been available without an optical disc drive since 2019. However, PlayStation gamers won't have the option to switch to spinning discs for new releases come 2028. This is bad for GameStop not just for the potential slide in store traffic as digital delivery becomes the industry standard. GameStop used to carve out a high-margin living selling refurbished discs and cartridges of popular games. Now it's leaning on collectibles to offset the slide in its resale business. That approach is working -- for now -- but collectibles don't offer the scalability and differentiated advantages that made GameStop's moat so effective a generation ago.
No more going in circles?
The news isn't all bad for GameStop. Profitability is growing despite four fiscal years of declining sales. Despite all the meme-stock hype, the video game stock is trading at a reasonable 21 times forward earnings. However, the surprising 14% jump in net sales was fueled entirely by a spike in interest for the store's trading cards, apparel, toys, and pop-culture merchandise. Back out the collectibles business, and net sales declined 7%. The business model isn't as sustainable as its former flywheel, but there are worse places to be in the retail space.
GameStop also has a cash-rich balance sheet. It wasn't enough to land eBay -- even if GameStop isn't throwing in the towel on the platform deal just yet -- but it will probably have to aim smaller if it eventually tries to grab something else. A company isn't going to take a stock-and-cash deal from a business whose shares have declined 4% over the past year and plummeted 56% over the past five years.
Sony's move is evolutionary, not revolutionary. Will other console makers follow, in today's climate of rising memory and data storage costs? GameStop isn't in the clear, but it has resources, if not cheat codes, to keep playing the game.

Is the Clock Ticking on GameStop Stock?

ASML is the only supplier of advanced chipmaking equipment deployed by TSMC and others, and that's going to accelerate the company's growth.
The semiconductor industry is playing an instrumental role in the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI). The training and deployment of AI models and inference applications wouldn't have been possible without chips, which explains why semiconductor companies have witnessed terrific growth in revenue and earnings in recent years.
Moreover, chips are also needed to run AI workloads locally on edge devices such as smartphones, personal computers (PCs), vehicles, robots, and drones, among other things. So, it is easy to see why the semiconductor industry's revenue is anticipated to jump by 64% in 2026 to $1.32 trillion, according to Gartner. Even better, the industry's revenue is expected to cross $1.55 trillion in 2027. This phenomenal growth has led to a 157% jump in the PHLX Semiconductor Sector index over the past year, as of this writing.

That's why now is a good time to take a closer look at key semiconductor stocks that are capitalizing on the industry's secular growth and appear capable of delivering healthy gains for investors.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing: The world's largest foundry company
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE: TSM), popularly known as TSMC, is the world's largest semiconductor foundry that manufactures chips designed by fabless chipmakers. The Taiwan-based company doesn't design its own chips. Instead, it is involved in the mass production of chips for companies such as Apple, Nvidia, AMD, Qualcomm, Sony, and others, who don't have their own chipmaking facilities.
TSMC's pure-play foundry business model puts it right in the middle of the global semiconductor boom. The company's revenue has increased by 30% year over year in the first five months of 2026. TSMC has managed to build a solid customer base due to its advanced process nodes, such as 5-nanometer (nm), 3nm, and 2nm, which are more powerful and energy efficient compared to mature nodes.
This explains why major AI chip designers are designing chips based on TSMC's advanced process nodes. For instance, Nvidia's upcoming Vera Rubin processors utilize TSMC's 3nm process node. The robust demand for these advanced nodes explains why TSMC's foundry market share increased to 73% in Q1 this year from 68% in the same period last year, according to Counterpoint Research.
So, as the demand for semiconductors increases, TSMC should be able to maintain its healthy growth rate. Not surprisingly, analysts expect the company's top line to grow at over 20% going forward.
TSMC stock has soared by 111% over the past year. However, further upside cannot be ruled out over the next five years, given the company's robust earnings growth potential, suggesting it isn't too late to buy this chip titan.
ASML: The most important semiconductor equipment supplier
TSMC produces the advanced chips using extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) machines manufactured by Dutch chip giant ASML Holding (NASDAQ: ASML). These machines use extreme ultraviolet light to etch billions of transistors on silicon wafers, and ASML is the only company that manufactures them.
So, it is easy to see why ASML's most advanced machines are in terrific demand. The company lifted its 2026 revenue guidance in April this year to a range of 36 billion euros to 40 billion euros, up from the prior range of 34 billion euros to 39 billion euros. Don't be surprised to see ASML raising its guidance as the year progresses, driven by the demand for its EUV machines.
The company is forecasting a 25% increase in shipments of its low-NA EUV machines this year to 60 units, followed by a bigger jump of 33% in 2027 to 80 units. Importantly, ASML notes that it is working closely with its supplier to boost the production of its EUV machines to meet the solid customer demand.
That's probably why analysts are expecting an acceleration in ASML's growth in 2027, following an estimated top-line increase of 20% this year.
There is a good chance of ASML's growth outpacing Wall Street's expectations in the future, driven by the shortage of components in the memory and optical networking markets. Also, AI chip designers such as Nvidia are seeing strong order inflows, while AMD and Broadcom are also experiencing phenomenal growth.
So, the mission-critical role that ASML plays in the semiconductor industry points to strong demand for its machines beyond 2027, which could pave the way for further upside in its stock price following terrific gains of 148% over the past year.

So, TSMC's results and outlook can be considered a barometer for the semiconductor industry's health, which has been benefiting big time from the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). That's why TSMC CEO C.C. Wei's recent comments bode well for AI stock investors.
TSMC CEO's comments indicate that the AI supercycle will be long-lasting
Bloomberg recently reported that TSMC expects global semiconductor supply to remain short of demand for several years, primarily due to AI. Wei said, "It will be a long time before we can meet customer demand," even though the company is bringing new fabs online.
It is worth noting that TSMC is poised to spend a whopping $265 billion on building 10 semiconductor fabrication plants in the U.S. However, bringing those fabs online will take time. Given that the four major hyperscalers in the U.S. are on track to have $725 billion in capital spending this year to bolster their AI infrastructure, it is easy to see why the TSMC CEO expects supply to fall short of demand over the long run.
Management consulting giant McKinsey estimates that the global semiconductor market could be worth $1.6 trillion in 2030, up from $775 billion in 2024. However, that's McKinsey's base-case scenario, with the firm anticipating the semiconductor industry to generate $1.8 trillion at the top end in 2030.
TSMC, therefore, seems on track to deliver years of outstanding growth, as the AI supercycle isn't going to go away anytime soon. A supercycle is a persistent period of strong demand for products and services that exceeds supply. This sets the stage for a favorable pricing environment for suppliers. So, Wei's comments suggest that strong demand for AI chips will remain a tailwind for the semiconductor sector, enabling companies to deliver solid long-term growth.
Now seems like a great time to buy AI chip stocks
There are several options investors can consider to capitalize on the AI supercycle. The good news is that there are many semiconductor stocks available at attractive valuations right now.

Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, Sony Group Corporation (known as Sony Corporation till March 2021) designs, manufactures and sells several consumer and industrial electronic equipment. The company’s product roster comprises audio and video equipment, televisions, network services, game hardware and software, mobile phones and image sensors. Additionally, Sony is active in the production, acquisition and distribution of recorded music and the management and licensing of the words and music for songs.
In addition, Sony operates several financial services businesses that include banking operations and life and non-life insurance operations, both of which are managed by its Japanese subsidiaries. Sony Financial Group mainly focuses on insurance, banking and other operations primarily through Sony Life. Markedly, Sony Bank offers mortgage loans and foreign-currency deposits to consumers via online services. Also, the company has an advertising agency and a network services business in Japan.
In the first quarter of fiscal 2016, Sony realigned its business, which primarily involved repositioning of operations related to its All Other segment.
The company currently has six major reportable segments – G&NS (accounting for 32.8% of total operating revenues in fiscal 2023); Music (12.4%); Pictures (11.5%); Entertainment, Technology & Services (ET&S) (18.9%); Imaging & Sensing Solutions (I&SS) (12.3%); and Financial Services (12.1%).

Nexstar Media Group NXST reported first-quarter 2026 earnings of $6.15 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 28.7% and increasing 82.5% year over year. The year-over-year improvement was significantly amplified by $42 million of one-time transaction and restructuring expenses that were excluded from the non-GAAP figure in the current quarter, with no comparable adjustments in the prior year period.
Revenues increased 13.1% year over year to $1.4 billion, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 10.6%, reflecting $106 million of incremental revenues from the TEGNA acquisition and higher advertising and distribution revenues at legacy business units.

NXST's Quarter in Detail
Distribution revenues of $837 million increased 9.8% year over year, reflecting $54 million of incremental TEGNA revenue and higher legacy business revenue from increased retransmission rates, growth in virtual multichannel video programming distributor (vMVPD) subscribers and the addition of CW affiliations on certain stations, partially offset by traditional MVPD subscriber attrition. On a combined basis, assuming TEGNA ownership for the full quarter, distribution revenues increased 1.6% year over year.
Advertising revenues of $548 million rose 19.1% year over year, driven by $51 million of incremental TEGNA advertising revenues and a $35 million year-over-year increase in political advertising at legacy business units to $41 million, reflecting the 2026 election cycle. Non-political advertising at legacy Nexstar grew a modest 0.4% as digital gains offset declines in traditional television advertising. On a combined basis, political advertising reached $78 million, up 89% versus the comparable 2022 cycle and 19% versus the comparable 2024 cycle.
Other revenues were $11 million, declining 8.3% year over year.
Adjusted EBITDA of $470 million increased $89 million or 23.4% year over year, with $31 million attributable to TEGNA and the remainder driven by higher legacy revenues and lower broadcast rights amortization at The CW. Adjusted EBITDA margin expanded to 33.7% from 30.9% in the comparable prior-year period. Net income of $160 million rose 64.9% year over year, with net income margin improving to 11.5% from 7.9%.
Balance Sheet & Cash Flow
As of March 31, 2026, total cash and cash equivalents were $379 million compared with $280 million as of Dec. 31, 2025. Total debt stood at $12.15 billion versus $6.33 billion at Dec. 31, 2025, reflecting the debt financing of the $3.66 billion TEGNA acquisition. The company's pro forma first lien net leverage ratio was 2.94 times against a covenant test of 4.75 times, and total net leverage was 3.84 times at quarter end.
Nexstar returned $56 million to shareholders through dividends in the first quarter, maintaining its quarterly cash dividend of $1.86 per share. After quarter end, Nexstar repaid its $150 million short-term Term Loan A and additional mandatory debt, bringing total debt repaid through April 30, 2026, to $182 million. The company also closed a refinancing of its 2027 senior notes with a new $1.725 billion issuance of 7.25% senior notes due 2034.
Net cash provided by operating activities was $289 million, declining 14.2% year over year, primarily due to working capital timing and a reduction in cash distributions from the company's 31.3% equity stake in Television Food Network. Adjusted free cash flow of $420 million improved 20.7% year over year, supported by higher adjusted EBITDA and reduced broadcast rights payments at The CW.
TEGNA Acquisition and Other Strategic Details
NXST closed the acquisition of TEGNA on March 19, 2026. The company expects to report its first full consolidated quarter with TEGNA when it releases second-quarter 2026 results.
For the second quarter on a combined basis, management expects non-political advertising to decline mid-single digits, reflecting a broader softening in the advertising environment. Nexstar also announced digital distribution partnerships with ESPN for exclusive streaming of CW sports content and with Roku for CW entertainment programming, extending its reach across streaming platforms without the capital burden of building proprietary platforms. The CW network remains on track for full profitability in the fourth quarter of 2026, with 2026 losses expected to improve by more than 30%.

NXST Q1 Earnings Beat Estimates on TEGNA Deal and Political Lift

News Corporation NWSA reported third-quarter fiscal 2026 earnings of 21 cents per share on an adjusted basis, which surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 31.3% and increased 23.5% year over year.
Revenues of $2.19 billion increased 8.8% year over year and exceeded the consensus mark by 4.4%. The year-over-year rise was driven by growth across the Dow Jones, Digital Real Estate Services and Book Publishing segments.

Adjusted revenues (which exclude the impacts of foreign currency, acquisitions and divestitures) increased 4% year over year. Total segment EBITDA rose 18% year over year to $343 million, marking News Corporation's 12th consecutive quarter of year-over-year total segment EBITDA growth on a continuing operations basis. EBITDA margin expanded 130 basis points to 15.7%, from 14.4% in the prior year.
NWSA's three core growth pillars — Dow Jones, Digital Real Estate Services and Book Publishing — collectively generated 17% segment EBITDA growth in the fiscal third quarter, accelerating from the rate recorded in the second quarter.
NWSA's Segment Details
Digital Real Estate Services
Revenues in the Digital Real Estate Services segment increased 17% year over year to $473 million, driven by robust growth at both REA Group and Move. Adjusted revenues and adjusted segment EBITDA increased 8% and 16% year over year, respectively. Segment EBITDA surged 25% to $155 million, with margin widening from 30.5% to 32.8%.
Revenues at Move, operator of Realtor.com, increased 10% year over year to $148 million, driven primarily by higher sales of RealPRO Select as Move shifts its focus to more premium offerings with higher revenues per lead and revenue growth in seller, new homes and rentals. Based on Move's internal data, average monthly unique users of Realtor.com's web and mobile sites for the fiscal third quarter were 66 million, flat year over year. Lead volume rose 6% year over year. Realtor.com averaged 5.3 visits per unique user in the third quarter compared with 3.5 at Zillow, 2.9 at Redfin and 1.9 at Homes.com, with overall visit share standing at 31% of total real estate portal visits, improving from 29% in the second quarter. Realtor.com also launched its app within ChatGPT and partnered with OpenAI to enhance the experience for sellers, buyers and realtors through AI-powered search and discovery tools.
REA Group revenues rose 20% year over year to $325 million, driven by a $31 million positive impact from foreign currency fluctuations, higher Australian residential revenues due to price increases, growth in add-on products and geographical mix, and higher financial services revenues. Strong Australian revenues were partly offset by a decrease in REA India revenues due to the sale of PropTiger and the closure of Housing Edge. Australian national residential new buy listing volumes in the quarter were up 1% year over year, with listings in Sydney up 4% and Melbourne up 7%.
Dow Jones
The Dow Jones segment's revenues increased 8% year over year to $619 million, extending a streak of 13 consecutive quarters of year-over-year EBITDA growth. Digital revenues accounted for 84% of total revenues in the quarter, compared with 82% in the prior year. Adjusted revenues rose 6% year over year, segment EBITDA increased 11% to $147 million and margin expanded 70 basis points to 23.7%. Adjusted segment EBITDA rose 12%.
Professional information business revenues grew 11% year over year, with Risk & Compliance revenues rising 19% to $100 million, driven by customer growth, product expansion and improved pricing. Contributions from the recently integrated acquisitions of Dragonfly and Oxford Analytica supported this growth during a period of heightened geopolitical uncertainty. Dow Jones Energy revenues grew 12% to $77 million, with customer retention remaining strong at approximately 90%. Management noted that the surge in U.S. energy exports is creating a new customer base that can be served without a commensurate increase in investment.
Circulation and subscription revenues rose 7% year over year. Digital circulation revenues accounted for 76% of circulation revenues, compared with 75% in the prior year. Advertising revenues increased 6% to $91 million, representing the highest third-quarter revenues since fiscal 2022, with digital advertising growing 13% and print declining 6%. Digital advertising represented 67% of total advertising revenues, up from 63%.
Total average subscriptions to Dow Jones' consumer products exceeded 6.5 million for the quarter, up 7% year over year. Digital-only subscriptions grew 9% to nearly 6.1 million. Total subscriptions to The Wall Street Journal increased 8% to 4.7 million, while digital-only subscriptions grew 11% to 4.3 million, representing 92% of total Wall Street Journal subscriptions and driven by enterprise partnerships. At the Dow Jones Investor Briefing in March 2026, management outlined a pathway to $1 billion in annual segment EBITDA within five years, underpinned by continued strength in Risk & Compliance and Dow Jones Energy.
Book Publishing
The Book Publishing segment generated revenues of $555 million, an 8% increase year over year and the highest third-quarter segment EBITDA result since fiscal 2021. Adjusted revenues grew 4% year over year. Segment EBITDA rose 14% to $73 million, with margin expanding 70 basis points to 13.2%. Adjusted segment EBITDA also increased 14%.
Strong demand for Rachel Reid's Game Changers series, fueled by the streaming adaptation of Heated Rivalry, drove much of the quarter's outperformance. Digital sales increased 11% year over year, with e-book sales rising 17% and audiobooks increasing 7%. Digital sales represented 26% of consumer revenues compared with 25% in the prior year. Backlist titles contributed 64% of consumer revenues compared with 65% in the prior year. Management cited an encouraging frontlist pipeline for the fiscal fourth quarter, including forthcoming releases from Ann Patchett, Alex Aster and Laurie Gilmore.
News Media
Revenues in the News Media segment increased 5% year over year to $538 million, primarily attributable to a $38 million positive impact from foreign currency fluctuations. On an adjusted basis, revenues declined 2% year over year. Digital revenues represented 40% of News Media segment revenues, compared with 39% in the prior year.
Circulation and subscription revenues rose 7% year over year. Advertising revenues increased 3% year over year, aided by a $13 million favorable foreign currency impact and higher digital advertising revenues, partially offset by lower print advertising revenues, notably at News U.K. Segment EBITDA declined 55% year over year to $15 million, primarily driven by lower contribution from News U.K. and launch costs associated with the California Post. Adjusted segment EBITDA declined 61%. Management described the California Post as a disciplined investment, noting meaningful increases in daily active users and California-based engagement across the New York Post Media Group.
As of March 31, 2026, The Times and The Sunday Times had 676,000 closing digital subscribers, compared with 629,000 in the prior year, a gain of 7%. Closing digital subscribers at News Corp Australia were 1,171,000, compared with 1,148,000 in the prior year.
Other Financial Aspects
News Corporation reported net income from continuing operations of $121 million for the third quarter, a 13% increase from $107 million in the prior year, driven by higher total segment EBITDA and partially offset by higher tax expense.
Free cash flow for the nine months ended March 31, 2026, was $535 million compared with $539 million in the prior year. The year-over-year decrease was primarily due to higher capital expenditures, partially offset by higher cash provided by operating activities. News Corporation expects strong free cash flow growth for the full fiscal year despite moderately higher capital expenditures.
As of March 31, 2026, cash and cash equivalents stood at $2.17 billion, a decline of 9.6% from $2.40 billion as of June 30, 2025, primarily reflecting the acceleration of share repurchase activity and higher working capital outflows during the period.
