About the Company
Sezzle has built out a payments ecosystem that includes Pay-in-Two, Pay-in-Full, and longer-term installment options through third-party lenders, as well as a virtual card product that lets users shop at any merchant. The company also monetizes through subscription tiers like Sezzle Anywhere and Sezzle Premium, which unlock access to a wider merchant network.
In short, Sezzle is competing in the crowded BNPL space by layering flexible credit options on top of a virtual card infrastructure, giving it reach beyond just its direct merchant partnerships.
SEZL is valued at $2.5 billion and has a Forward PE of 16. The stock has Zacks Style Scores of “A” in Growth and “C” in both Value and Momentum.
Q4 Earnings Beat
Sezzle delivered a strong fourth quarter, beating EPS expectation by 26%, and posting their seventh straight earnings beat. The company reported $1.21 in EPS and revenue of $130 million, ahead of the $128 million consensus.
Adjusted EBITDA jumped 79% year over year to $58.3 million, showing meaningful operating leverage as the platform scales. The company also raised its FY26 outlook, guiding to $4.70 in EPS versus $4.33 expected and projecting revenue growth of 25 to 30% year over year.
User growth and engagement metrics reinforced the beat. Monthly On Demand and Subscribers reached a record 918,000, while app sessions surged 51% year over year by December.
Management emphasized a focus on higher lifetime value subscribers and proprietary shopping features, positioning the company to sustain earnings quality into 2026, with guidance calling for $170 million in adjusted net income, up 31% year over year on a per share basis.
Estimates Head Higher
Over the last three months, we have seen analysts move earnings estimates back and forth. But since the earnings report, numbers have shot higher.
For the current quarter, estimates have gone from $1.16 to $1.24 over the last 7 days. This is a 7% jump.
For next quarter, we had a small lift of 3%, with estimates going to $0.96 from $0.93.
For the current year, estimates have gone from $4.33 to $4.69, a jump of 8%.
The longer-term numbers are shooting higher as well, with estimates for next year going from $5.46 to $5.8, an increase of 6%.
One notable upgrade after EPS was B. Riley Securities, which reiterated their “Buy” and lifted their price target from $76 to $99.
The Technical Take
The stock was on fire in 2025, moving from $40 to $186 in just three months. But the froth came out after an August quarter that took the stock down 40% in just a couple days.
Since then, the stock has slowly moved lower, bottoming out at $50 before rallying to $86 after the latest earnings report. SEZL has pulled back since, so let’s look at some moving averages:
21-day: $67
50-day: $68.50
200-day: $92
Investors can look to that $67-69 area as support and the $90-92 level as resistance.
Moreover, there is a 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level that held on the latest pullback. If this $67 area can hold, the stock has a lot of upside. A move back under $60 would signal failure of the technical setup and a larger fundamental problem that isn’t reflected in the latest quarter.
In Summary
Sezzle is delivering consistent earnings beats, expanding margins, raising guidance, and seeing upward estimate revisions across multiple time frames. At 16 times forward earnings, the stock is not priced like a hyper growth fintech, even as revenue is projected to grow 25 to 30% and adjusted net income climbs more than 30%.

Technically, the stock is still repairing damage from last year’s sharp pullback but the recent move lower after earnings provides investors a nice buying opportunity.

Shopee remained the growth engine, with GMV reaching $36.7 billion, up 28.6% year over year. For 2026, management is guiding to roughly 25% GMV growth at Shopee and adjusted EBITDA at least flat year over year.
Shopee served roughly 400 million active buyers in 2025, with frequency and monthly buyers both rising double digits. Logistics investments are accelerating, with Exp Express now handling about 30 million parcels per day and same day delivery gaining traction in major metros.
Meanwhile, SeaMoney’s loan book grew 80% year over year to $9.2 billion with stable credit metrics, and Garena is guiding to double digit bookings growth in 2026. The strategy is consistent, but with EBITDA guidance capped at no lower year over year, investors are clearly questioning how much incremental upside remains near term.
Earnings Estimates Fall After Earnings
Analysts have lowered numbers across all-time frames since SE reported earnings. But this is not new, analysts have been taking numbers down for the last 90 days.
Let’s look at how the numbers have dropped, along with the stock over the last three months.
For the current quarter, estimates have fallen for $1.35 to $1.14, or 15%. For next quarter, estimates fell from $1.45 to $1.17 or 19%.
Looking down the road, next year’s numbers have been taken down 9%, going from $5.64 to $5.16.
And for next year we see a 13% drop, with estimates going from $7.65 to $6.68.
Technical Take
The stock has been a bleeder since October, with a slow and steady push down from $180 to $80. That is some major damage, and while the stock has rallied off the recent lows, investors should look to sell any up move into resistance.
Let’s look at some moving averages:
21-day: $107
50-day: $118
200-day: $150
Recent support was at $80, but if that were to break the stock could see pressure down to the 2024 breakout level of $60.
In Summary
Sea still has scale, strong user engagement, and long-term structural tailwinds in emerging markets. Shopee continues to grow GMV at a healthy pace, SeaMoney is expanding rapidly with stable credit metrics, and Garena is stabilizing. On paper, the ecosystem remains intact.
The issue is momentum. Earnings missed, EBITDA guidance is capped, estimates are falling across time frames, and the stock is in a clear downtrend. With resistance overhead and analysts cutting numbers, rallies look more like selling opportunities than fresh entry points. Until estimate revisions stabilize and the chart repairs, the risk remains to the downside.

MercadoLibre's obstacles
MercadoLibre is the leading e-commerce player in Latin America. But it has been dealing with increasing competition, most notably from Shopee, an online platform owned by Sea Limited. Even with a leading market share, MercadoLibre has seen its business suffer amid Shopee's successful efforts, partly thanks to its offering competitive prices.
MercadoLibre's fourth-quarter sales were strong. The company's revenue jumped 45% year over year to $8.8 billion. However, MercadoLibre's net income declined to $559 million, down 12.5% year over year and coming up short of analysts' estimates.
Considering the mounting competition in recent quarters and the declining net income in its latest period, it's not too surprising to see MercadoLibre's shares moving in the wrong direction.
Why the stock is still a buy
Part of why MercadoLibre underperformed on the bottom line during the period is that it was investing in the future. The company is countering Shopee's progress in the region with strategic moves that could help strengthen MercadoLibre's ecosystem and, by extension, its economic moat. These investments may cost a lot of money up front but could pay for themselves down the road as consumer demand grows and margins improve.
But what exactly is MercadoLibre doing? Consider three important moves the company has made.
First, it lowered the free shipping minimum. Extending this service to more items and customers isn't cheap, but it will help boost the company's gross merchandise volume.
Second, MercadoLibre is also expanding its credit business (in a region where banking is less developed than in many other countries), which, the company believes, presents an attractive long-term growth avenue.
Lastly, MercadoLibre is doubling down on artificial intelligence and implementing AI-powered changes across its business, from fintech to advertising.
The lower earnings and margins in the short run are worth it if MercadoLibre's initiatives pay off later, and given the large addressable market in the region, there are good reasons to believe they could. Latin America has been one of the fastest-growing e-commerce regions in recent years.

The Trade Desk
One of the more shocking recent stock price declines has occurred in The Trade Desk (NASDAQ: TTD) since December 2024. Since peaking at just above $141 per share, the stock has lost over 80% of its value.
So, what happened? The Trade Desk faces typical ad industry struggles like economic uncertainty, and lately, AI platforms are bypassing platforms where companies once posted ads. The company has also struggled with data privacy regulations.
Additionally, digital ad giants like Alphabet and Amazon bar platforms like The Trade Desk from buying ads on owned platforms. This puts the company at a competitive disadvantage when advertising on these large platforms.
Nonetheless, one has to question whether the selling has gone too far, especially considering that its customer retention remains above 95% as it has for the last 12 years. In 2025, revenue has risen by 18%. That's not as fast as in the past, but it is still a robust growth rate. That increased profits by around 13% amid a spike in income tax expenses.
Now, its P/E ratio is at an all-time low of 28, and its forward multiple is at just 12. In a world where the average S&P 500 company sells for 30 times earnings, The Trade Desk looks increasingly like a stock that could outperform the S&P 500 in 2026.

Southeast Asian tech conglomerate Sea Limited (NYSE: SE) does not attract wide attention outside that region. However, its Shopee e-commerce segment and Monee consumer credit business are industry leaders in Southeast Asia, a region of around 650 million people.
Moreover, its digital gaming business Garena produces Free Fire, which has been one of the most downloaded mobile games in recent years.
Admittedly, the company operates primarily in developing markets, which can bring uncertainty. Competition has intensified in its e-commerce markets, and the mobile gaming industry has grown more slowly in recent months. With that, the stock has dropped by approximately 45% from its September highs.
Still, one has to wonder whether the market might have overreacted. In the first nine months of 2025, revenue of over $16 billion grew by 35% as all three segments reported robust increases. During that time, it also earned almost $1.2 billion in net income, up from $207 million in the same year-ago period.
For 2026, analysts forecast 24% revenue growth. While that is robust, it would signify a meaningful slowdown, and that could sour some investors on the company, given its 46 P/E ratio. Nonetheless, at a forward P/E ratio of 22, it is looking increasingly inexpensive, and as the growth continues in Southeast Asia, the low forward multiple could help spark a recovery in Sea Limited stock.
Lyft
Investors tend to think of Lyft (NASDAQ: LYFT) merely as a smaller competitor to Uber Technologies. However, the company has captured its share of the rideshare market and has the growth to show for it. Like Uber, it is also partnering with autonomous vehicle companies in hopes of becoming a platform where such rides are booked.
Unfortunately, the company has failed to impress investors. With that, the stock has lost about 45% of its value from its November high. Nonetheless, it reported a 15% increase in gross bookings in 2025, which could bode well for the future even though the revenue of $6.3 billion rose by just 9%. Also, while it reported just over $2.8 billion in net income, all of that profit came from a $2.9 billion income tax benefit.
Still, thefinancial newsis not all bad. Its 2025 free cash flow was just over $1.1 billion, 46% more than in 2024. Amid that gain, the company has allocated $1 billion to share buybacks.
Investors should also keep its valuation in mind. Even though the tax benefit skewed the P/E ratio, Lyft stock sells for just 9 times forward earnings. Between the growth and the likely reduction in shares outstanding, its share price is likely to get a lift.

Global stock markets retreated, and crude oil prices and bond yields rose on Tuesday as the war in Iran entered its fourth day with no sign of de-escalation, bolstering fears of a prolonged disruption to energy markets and a surge in inflation.
However, crude oil prices fell back from their best levels on Tuesday, and stocks recovered from their worst levels, after President Trump said he ordered the US Development Finance Corporation "to provide, at a very reasonable price, political risk insurance and guarantees for the financial security of all maritime trade, especially energy, traveling through the Gulf." He also said, "If necessary, the US Navy will begin escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, as soon as possible."
WTI crude oil (CLJ26) rose more than +4% to an 8.5-month high after an adviser to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander told state TV that “we will set fire to any ship attempting to pass through” the Strait of Hormuz, which runs along Iran's coast and handles a fifth of the world's oil. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has forced Iraq, OPEC's second-largest producer, to shut down oil production at its largest oil fields in Rumalia as storage tanks fill up. Goldman Sachs estimates the real-time risk premium for crude oil at $18/bbl, corresponding to its estimate of the impact of a six-week full halt to tanker traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
Also, falling debris from an intercepted Iranian drone caused a major fire at the United Arab Emirates' major oil-trading hub, Fujairah, one of the largest oil storage centers in the Middle East. European natural gas prices rose more than +22% on Tuesday to a 3-year high after Qatar shut its Ras Laffan plant, the world's largest natural gas export facility, after it was targeted by an Iranian drone attack. The Ras Laffan plant accounts for about 20% of the global liquefied natural gas supply.
President Trump said Monday that combat operations against Iran could last for weeks until all objectives were completed. President Trump has called for Iran’s leaders to capitulate, but Iran’s security chief said that it has no intention of negotiating with the US.
Kansas City Fed President Jeff Schmid said, "Inflation has been above the Fed's objective for nearly five years now, so I don't think we have room to be complacent."
NY Fed President John Williams said additional Fed interest rate cuts will be warranted if inflation slows further once most of the impact of tariffs has passed.
This week's market focus will be on US-Iran war news, corporate earnings, and economic news. On Wednesday, the Feb ADP employment change is expected to increase by +50,000. Also, the Feb ISM services index is expected to slip by -0.3 to 53.5. In addition, the Fed releases its Beige Book. On Thursday, weekly initial unemployment claims are expected to increase by +3,000 to 215,000. Also, Q4 nonfarm productivity is expected to be up +1.8%, and Q4 unit labor costs are expected to be up +2.0%. On Friday, Feb nonfarm payrolls are expected to increase by +60,000, and the Feb unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 4.3%. Also, Feb average hourly earnings are expected to increase by +0.3% m/m and +3.7% y/y. In addition, Feb retail sales are expected to fall -0.3% m/m and Feb retail sales ex-autos are expected to remain unchanged m/m.
Q4 earnings season is nearing its end, with more than 90% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 73% of the 481 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 2% chance for a -25 bp rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets settled sharply lower on Tuesday. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell to a 2-month low and closed down -3.59%. China’s Shanghai Composite fell from a 10.5-year high and closed down -1.43%. Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 dropped to a 3-week low and closed down -3.06%.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) on Tuesday closed down by -2 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield rose +1.9 bp to 4.054%. June T-notes tumbled to a 2-week low on Tuesday, and the 10-year T-note yield jumped to a 2-week high of 4.115%. Soaring energy prices on Tuesday sparked inflation concerns and weighed on T-note prices, with WTI crude oil up more than +4% to an 8.5-month high. The 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 2-week high of 2.318% on Tuesday.
T-notes recovered from their worst levels after the stock sell-off prompted some safe-haven buying of government debt. Also, crude prices fell from early highs after President Trump said the US would provide insurance guarantees and naval escorts for oil tankers and other vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
European government bond yields moved higher on Tuesday. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 2.5-week high of 2.814% and finished up +4.0 bp to 2.752%. The 10-year UK gilt yield climbed to a 3-week high of 4.553% and finished up +9.7 bp to 4.471%.
The Eurozone Feb CPI rose +1.9% y/y, stronger than expectations of +1.7% y/y. Feb core CPI rose +2.4% y/y, stronger than expectations of +2.2% y/y.
Swaps are discounting a 0% chance of a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks sold off on Tuesday, weighing on the broader market. Sandisk (SNDK) closed down more than -8% to lead losers in the S&P 500, and Micron Technology (MU) closed down more than -7% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100. Also, Western Digital (WDC) closed down more than -7%, and KLA Corp (KLAC) closed down more than -6%. In addition, Applied Materials (AMAT), Lam Research (LRCX), Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX), and Intel (INTC) closed down more than -5%, and ASML Holding NV (ASML), NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI), and Marvell Technology (MRVL) closed down more than -4%. Finally, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Analog Devices (ADI), and Texas Instruments (TXN) closed down more than -3%.
Mining stocks plunged on Tuesday as gold prices fell more than -3% and silver prices sank more than -6%. Hecla Mining (HL) closed down more than -11%, and Coeur Mining (CDE) and Anglogold Ashanti (AU) closed down more than -10%. Also, Barrick Mining (B) closed down more than -8%, Newmont Corp (NEM) closed down more than -7%, and Freeport McMoRan (FCX) closed down more than -3%
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks slid on Tuesday as Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) fell more than -1%. MARA Holdings (MARA) closed down more than -8%, and Riot Platforms (RIOT) closed down more than -7%. Also, Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) closed down more than -5%, Strategy (MSTR) closed down more than -3%, and Coinbase Global (COIN) closed down more than -1%.
Software stocks rallied on Tuesday to limit losses in the broader market. Workday (WDAY) closed up more than +7% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100. Also, Thomson Reuters (TRI) closed up more than +5%, and Adobe Systems (ADBE) closed up more than -4%. In addition, ServiceNow (NOW) and Intuit (INTU) closed up more than +3%, and International Business Machines (IBM) closed up more than +2% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials. Finally, Autodesk (ADSK) closed up more than +2%, and Salesforce (CRM), Microsoft (MSFT), and Palantir Technologies (PLTR) closed up more than +1%.
MongoDB (MDB) closed down more than -22% after forecasting 2027 revenue of $2.86 billion to $2.90 billion, below the consensus of $2.90 billion.
Sea Lt. (SE) closed down more than -16% after reporting Q4 net income of$410.9 million, weaker than the consensus of $442 million.
Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd (CRDO) closed down more than -14% after forecasting Q4 revenue of $425 million to 435 million, the midpoint below the consensus of $430.5 million.
Surgery Partners (SGRY) closed down more than -12% after forecasting full-year revenue of $3.35 billion to $3.45 billion, well below the consensus of $3.56 billion.

Stocks Settle Lower on Iran War Anxiety

Key Points
Sea Limited fell after fourth quarter earnings results this morning.
The company beat on both the top and bottom lines.
However, Sea's high-growth segments posted margin declines, while its high-margin segment delivered muted quarterly growth.
Shares of Southeast Asian "super-app" Sea Limited (NYSE: SE) fell as much as 26.8% on Tuesday, before recovering to a 16.4% decline by the end of trading.
Sea reported fourth-quarter earnings today that beat both revenue and earnings expectations; however, a rise in certain costs related to its fintech arm Monee appears to have investors nervous. Furthermore, its high-profit Garena gaming division saw a quarter-over-quarter decline in bookings, even as bookings were up strongly year over year.

All in all, these were imperfections in an otherwise strong earnings report, which may open up an opportunity in this market leader, given that Sea's stock has been more than cut in half from its 52-week high.
Sea delivers sterling growth, but not enough for a jittery market
In the fourth quarter, Sea Limited grew revenue 38.4% to $6.85 billion, with earnings per share up 61.5% to $0.63. Both figures beat analysts' expectations.
These figures seem really good, so what's the problem? For the answer, one has to delve into the details of each of Sea's three divisions: Shopee e-commerce, Monee fintech and lending, and Garena mobile gaming.
In the Shopee e-commerce segment, Sea grew revenue by 35.8%. Still, adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) grew by only 33%, suggesting limited operating leverage, even as Sea increased seller take rates.
Second, in the Monee segment, Sea stepped on the gas to issue loans, with its loan book growing by over 80% to $9.2 billion and revenue surging 54.3%. However, that segment's adjusted EBITDA only grew 24.7%. This was due to a 66.7% increase in provisions for credit losses. So, investors may have been nervous about the company expanding its loan book so quickly, given that lending can be a dangerous business if the economy turns down.
Meanwhile, the Garena segment delivered solid results, with bookings up 23.8% and adjusted EBITDA up 25.5%, which, unlike the other two segments, showed a margin expansion. However, users, while up year over year, actually fell quarter over quarter, as did bookings. Whether the fourth quarter marked a trend change or just quarterly noise remains to be seen.
But Sea's investments could pay off
Investors seem a little anxious that Sea's accelerating growth segments saw margin compression, while its high-margin gaming segment posted a quarterly decline. Still, the optimist could see the margin compression across Shopee and Monee as tied to investments in future growth.
Shopee's decreased margins were a result of management aggressively expanding its VIP program, which could tie customers more closely to Shopee's ecosystem over the long-term. Meanwhile, in the Monee segment, Sea said it felt confident it could expand its lending to more types of customer and use cases thanks to AI-assisted underwriting. Given the aggressive expansion to new borrowers, a higher provision seems prudent.
Meanwhile, Garena's bookings growth on a full-year basis was much better than Q4, and on the conference call with analysts, CEO Forrest Li said he still expects double-digit bookings growth in that segment in 2026.
All in all, it seems like today's sell-off may be overdone, especially in light of the sell-off Sea had already experienced over the past six months. E-commerce investors should consider buying the dip.

Stocks Sink as Crude Oil Surge Rattles Markets

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) today is down -1.82%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) is down -2.07%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is down -1.78%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) are down -1.84%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) are down -1.82%.
Stock indexes are sharply lower today, with the S&P 500 falling to a 2.5-month low, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping to a 2.75-month low, and the Nasdaq 100 sliding to a 2-week low.

Global stock markets are plunging, and crude oil prices and bond yields are soaring as the war in Iran enters its fourth day with no sign of de-escalation, bolstering fears of a lengthy disruption to energy markets and a surge in inflation.
WTI crude oil (CLJ26) is up more than +7% at an 8.5-month high after an adviser to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander told state TV that “we will set fire to any ship attempting to pass through” the Strait of Hormuz, which runs along Iran's coast and handles a fifth of the world's oil. Goldman Sachs estimates the real-time risk premium for crude oil at $18/bbl, corresponding to its estimate of the impact of a six-week full halt to tanker traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
Also, falling debris from an intercepted Iranian drone caused a major fire at the United Arab Emirates' major oil-trading hub, Fujairah, one of the largest oil storage centers in the Middle East. European natural gas prices are up +33% today at a 3-year high after Qatar shut its Ras Laffan plant, the world's largest natural gas export facility, after it was targeted by an Iranian drone attack. The Ras Laffan plant accounts for about 20% of the global liquefied natural gas supply.
President Trump said Monday that combat operations against Iran could last for weeks until all objectives were completed. President Trump has called for Iran’s leaders to capitulate, but Iran’s security chief said that it has no intention of negotiating with the US.
Global bond yields are soaring today, weighing on stocks amid the potentially inflationary impact of surging energy prices. The 10-year German bund yield jumped to a 2.5-week high of 2.814%, the 10-year UK gilt yield rose to a 3-week high of 4.536%, and the 10-year T-note yield climbed to a 2-week high of 4.12%.
This week's market focus will be on US-Iran war news, corporate earnings, and economic news. On Wednesday, the Feb ADP employment change is expected to increase by +40,000. Also, the Feb ISM services index is expected to slip by -0.3 to 53.5. In addition, the Fed releases its Beige Book. On Thursday, weekly initial unemployment claims are expected to increase by +3,000 to 215,000. Also, Q4 nonfarm productivity is expected to be up +1.8%, and Q4 unit labor costs are expected to be up +2.0%. On Friday, Feb nonfarm payrolls are expected to increase by +60,000, and the Feb unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 4.3%. Also, Feb average hourly earnings are expected to increase by +0.3% m/m and +3.7% y/y. In addition, Feb retail sales are expected to fall -0.3% m/m and Feb retail sales ex-autos are expected to remain unchanged m/m.
Q4 earnings season is nearing its end, with more than 90% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 73% of the 481 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 2% chance for a -25 bp rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets are sharply lower today. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell to a 2-month low and is down -3.86%. China’s Shanghai Composite fell from a 10.5-year high and closed down -1.43%. Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 dropped to a 3-week low and closed down -3.06%.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) today are down by -16 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is up +7.1 bp to 4.106%. June T-notes tumbled to a 2-week low today, and the 10-year T-note yield jumped to a 2-week high of 4.111%. Soaring energy prices today have sparked inflation concerns and are weighing on T-notes prices, with WTI crude oil up more than +7% at an 8.5-month high. The 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 2-week high of 2.318%.
European government bond yields are moving higher. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 2.5-week high of 2.814% and is up +7.8 bp to 2.790%. The 10-year UK gilt yield climbed to a 3-week high of 4.553% and is up +14.3 bp to 4.517%.
The Eurozone Feb CPI rose +1.9% y/y, stronger than expectations of +1.7% y/y. Feb core CPI rose +2.4% y/y, stronger than expectations of +2.2% y/y.
Swaps are discounting a 3% chance of a +25 bp rate increase by the ECB at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
Magnificent Seven technology stocks are lower today. Amazon.com (AMZN) and Tesla (TSLA)
are down more than -2%. Nvidia (NVDA) is down more than -1% as US officials are considering caps on the number of AI accelerators Nvidia can export to any one Chinese company. Also, Alphabet (GOOGL) is down more than -1%, Microsoft (MSFT) is down -0.67%, Meta Platforms (META) is down -0.54%, and Apple (AAPL) is down -0.43%.
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks are falling today, weighing on the broader market. Western Digital (WDC) is down more than -6% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100, and Micron Technology (MU) is down more than -5%. Also, Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX) and Intel (INTC) are down more than -4%, and Applied Materials (AMAT), KLA Corp (KLAC), ASML Holding NV (ASML), Lam Research (LRCX), Analog Devices (ADI), and NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) are down more than -3%. In addition, Marvell Technology (MRVL) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) are down more than -2%.
Airline stocks are under pressure for a second day today as crude oil prices surged to an 8.5-month high, which will boost jet fuel prices and cut into airlines’ profits. Alaska Air Group (ALK) is down more than -5%, and American Airlines Group (AAL), United Airlines Holdings (UAL), and Southwest Airlines (LUV) are down more than -4%. Also, Delta Air Lines (DAL) is down more than -3%.
Homebuilders are retreating today after the 10-year T-note yield climbed to a 2-week high, which will push mortgage rates higher and may curb home sales prospects.
