EchoStar Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, provides networking technologies and services worldwide. The company operates in four segments: Pay-TV, Retail Wireless, 5G Network Deployment, Broadband and Satellite Services. The Pay-TV segment offers a direct broadcast and fixed satellite services; designs, develops, and distributes receiver system; and provides digital broadcast operations, including satellite uplinking/downlinking, transmission and, other services to third-party pay-TV providers; and multichannel, live-linear and on-demand streaming over-the-top internet-based domestic, international, Latino, and Freestream video programming services under the DISH and SLING brand names. The Retail Wireless segment provides prepaid and postpaid wireless services under the Boost Mobile, Boost postpaid, and Gen Mobile brands, as well various wireless devices. The Network Deployment segment deploys a facilities-based 5G broadband network and commercializes deployment of 5G VoNR. The Broadband and Satellite Services offers broadband services to consumer customers, which include home, and small to medium-sized businesses; and satellite and multi-transport technologies, and managed network services to telecommunications providers, aeronautical service providers, civilian and defense government entities, and other enterprise customers. EchoStar Corporation was incorporated in 2007 and is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado.

Bitcoin predictions are all over the map
First of all, many financial experts expect Bitcoin to move much higher by the year 2030.
This faction is led by Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) chairman and co-founder Michael Saylor, who expects the coin to "appreciate faster than any other asset" in the long run. His company still develops enterprise software, but largely sees itself as a Bitcoin bank these days, taking on debt and selling shares for the sole purpose of buying more cryptocurrency.
Fellow crypto bull Cathie Wood's ARK Invest also sees big gains ahead. Wood's research team recently raised their 2030 Bitcoin price target from $1.5 million to $2.4 million. Her company manages the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF.
There are also many economy experts who don't expect much of a Bitcoin boom. Investing legend Warren Buffett wouldn't buy all the Bitcoin in the world for $25, since the coin doesn't represent any actual products or services, for example. In this view, Bitcoin looks like a temporary fad without long-term value -- just another way to move money from one owner to another, with no actual value created along the way.
Then again, Buffett was never a big fan of investing in gold -- for similar reasons. If you see investable qualities in the idea of storing value for the long term, then you might be a Bitcoin or gold investor. Personally, I think it's time for an all-digital currency to replace the dollar (and other old-school currencies) in many ways. Bitcoin must upgrade its encryption technology in order to stay ahead of the quantum computing threat, but otherwise, it looks ready to take on this role.
Why you might prefer an ETF over "real" Bitcoin holdings
Since you're still reading, you might want to give Bitcoin a shot after all. In that case, why buy a spot-price Bitcoin ETF instead of the real thing? There are many reasons. Let me highlight a few of the more popular arguments in favor of a Bitcoin ETF:
The ETF is easier to handle in most cases. Trading an ETF is very similar to buying and selling ordinary stocks. You don't have to open a new account with a crypto-trading service, and even your retirement savings account could add crypto exposure with a simple ETF.
ETFs can do some nice accounting tricks that generally aren't available to crypto investors yet. For example, you can easily use a Bitcoin ETF for tax-loss harvesting when prices are down. I'd talk to a qualified accountant before trying anything like that in the crypto world.
Managing a crypto portfolio can quickly become a technical exercise. Should you rely on a central crypto-portfolio manager like Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN) or Robinhood (NASDAQ: HOOD), or take direct ownership in a digital wallet with security keys? What happens if you lose those keys, or your chosen crypto exchange is hacked? The ETF route avoids most of these thorny technical issues.
How ARK 21Shares stacks up against a more popular option
Finally, there are nearly a dozen spot Bitcoin ETFs on the market today. What makes the ARK 21Shares fund stand out among this robust competition, led by the gigantic iShares Bitcoin Trust (NASDAQ: IBIT)?
You can't really go wrong with the leading iShares ETF, which offers unmatched liquidity and a familiar brand name. However, the ARK 21Shares fund comes with a couple of unique details:
Thanks to a different structure of shares issued per Bitcoin under management, the ARK 21Shares ETF trades at a lower share price. This gives investors more granular control over the amount of money they're putting into their Bitcoin ETF position. Each iShares ETF share represents roughly 0.000575 Bitcoins at the moment, and a share of the ARK 21Shares fund accounts for 0.000332 Bitcoins. If those fractions are hard to follow, you can think of them as 57,500 and 33,200 Satoshis (CRYPTO: SATS) instead. 100 million Satoshis equal one Bitcoin.
iShares is a pretty faceless entity, controlled by financial services giant Blackrock (NYSE: BLK). The ARK Invest fund family is associated with famous growth investor Cathie Wood, who often explains her Bitcoin thinking in TV interviews and blog posts.
The fees are slightly different, too. The iShares ETF's annual expense ratio is set to 0.25%, while the ARK 21Shares option carries a lower fee of 0.21%.
Again, none of these differences are absolute game-changers or deal-breakers. Still, they are qualities you might consider before taking the plunge into the ETF-based Bitcoin waters.
All things considered, the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF will follow Bitcoin's price trends very faithfully over the next five years. The period includes another halving of Bitcoin mining rewards in 2028, and the quantum computing threat is many years away from becoming a real concern.
In other words, I think this ETF will gain value over the next half-decade (but Warren Buffett is still not convinced).

Notable Friday Option Activity: APGE, SATS, M

EchoStar (NASDAQ: SATS) stock is surging higher in Friday's trading following some big financial news. The company's share price was up 12.8% as of 2 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 was up 0.3%.
EchoStar submitted a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) indicating that it is making over $500 million in debt-interest payments. The payments had been overdue, but the fact that they are now being dispersed to creditors should help stave off bankruptcy risks.

EchoStar rockets higher as interest payments defer bankruptcy risk
EchoStar had missed $509 million in combined interest payments due on May 30 and June 2, but it is now sending that cash to creditors. The payments will allow the company to avoid filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The satellite technologies specialist would have had to file for Chapter 11 protections if it had not made the payments by June 30. Following today's gains, the stock is now up roughly 26% in 2025 -- and has risen roughly 64% over the last year.
What's next for EchoStar?
EchoStar, which owns Dish Network, had missed interest payments on its debt due to issues with its 5G buildout obligations and spectrum licensing issues raised by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The stock rocketed higher earlier this month after it was reported that President Donald Trump was advocating for the FCC to reach a deal with EchoStar that would resolve issues and help the company retain its spectrum licensing rights.
With debt of roughly $26 billion against a market capitalization of roughly $8.2 billion, shareholders of EchoStar's common stock would likely get wiped out if the company were to go through bankruptcy proceedings. The company's financial position doesn't necessarily suggest an imminent risk of bankruptcy, but there is a risk that the satellite communications specialist would file for bankruptcy to shield its spectrum rights from being seized by regulators. Given the payments being made on interest and the advocacy from the Trump administration, it's looking less likely the company will need to go that route.

Why EchoStar Stock Is Skyrocketing Today

WidePoint Corporation WYY is making visible progress under the Department of Defense’s Spiral 4 contract, positioning it for long-term execution gains. This contract, valued at up to $2.7 billion across multiple vendors, represents a major pipeline opportunity. The opportunity is especially timely as many task orders under the previous Spiral 3 vehicle are approaching expiration.
In the first quarter of 2025, WidePoint secured two new task orders under Spiral 4, adding to a base-year award announced earlier, which holds a potential 10-year value of roughly $25 million. While the latest awards were modest in size, management noted that increased activity and incoming Requests for Quotations (“RFQ”) are signs of growing traction. Several awards under Spiral 3 are set to end by mid-2025 and WidePoint expects momentum to pick up as agencies transition contracts to the new vehicle.
To support this growth, the company is expanding its internal team dedicated to Spiral 4, indicating confidence in both pipeline conversion and long-term execution. Unlike most competitors on the vehicle, WidePoint delivers managed mobility and lifecycle services that go beyond core carrier offerings — a point it believes strengthens position.
With more RFQs in motion and an active shift from Spiral 3 to Spiral 4, WidePoint appears focused on capturing recurring task orders under this large-scale federal contract. The coming quarters will be key in determining whether early progress can translate into sustainable growth across its federal portfolio.
Other Players Riding the Spiral 4 Wave
While WidePoint is steadily gaining ground under Spiral 4, other federal mobility providers are also making moves under the same contract. Among them, EchoStar Corporation SATS and T-Mobile US, Inc. TMUS have emerged as key players positioning themselves within this opportunity.
EchoStar, through its subsidiary Hughes Network Systems, is leveraging Spiral 4 to expand the role in federal mobility by offering integrated 5G and satellite-backed connectivity solutions. The company’s focus remains on delivering secure, wide-area coverage for mission-critical use cases, especially in remote or infrastructure-limited environments. However, ongoing operational scrutiny around its wireless service obligations could pose challenges as EchoStar scales within the federal space.
T-Mobile is also participating in Spiral 4, bringing its nationwide 5G network and secure mobility offerings to the federal market. On June 13, 2024, the company was selected by the U.S. Department of the Navy as a wireless solutions provider under the $2.67 billion contract. The award enables Department of Defense agencies to procure wireless services and equipment from T-Mobile for the next 10 years.
Through Spiral 4, the company is offering voice, data, fixed wireless, IoT and mobility management services, all supported by its national 5G network. T-Mobile continues to build on its product portfolio and track record in government, aiming to serve both military and civilian agencies with scalable, secure solutions.

Is WidePoint Positioned to Capitalize on Spiral 4 Contract Activity?

EchoStar SATS shares ended the last trading session 49.1% higher at $25.11. The jump came on an impressive volume with a higher-than-average number of shares changing hands in the session. This compares to the stock's 28% loss over the past four weeks.
The stock price appreciated after Bloomberg reported that President Donald Trump intervened in a regulatory dispute involving the company’s wireless spectrum licenses. Trump reportedly has urged Chairman of EchoStar and the Chairman of FCC to bring a resolution that would allow the former to retain its valuable spectrum, which is crucial for 5G deployment. Investors responded swiftly, viewing the development as a major boost to the company’s prospects.
EchoStar has been working to safeguard its wireless spectrum licenses amid the risk of revocation by the FCC.
In May 2025, EchoStar reported first-quarter financial results that surpassed the Zacks Consensus estimate. The company plans to sell its Dish TV/Sling business to reduce debt. However, the company’s high debt remains a concern.
This seller of set-top boxes and provider of satellite services to Dish Network is expected to post quarterly loss of $1.12 per share in its upcoming report, which represents a year-over-year change of -47.4%. Revenues are expected to be $3.83 billion, down 3% from the year-ago quarter.
Earnings and revenue growth expectations certainly give a good sense of the potential strength in a stock, but empirical research shows that trends in earnings estimate revisions are strongly correlated with near-term stock price movements.
For EchoStar, the consensus EPS estimate for the quarter has been revised 1.2% higher over the last 30 days to the current level. And a positive trend in earnings estimate revision usually translates into price appreciation. So, make sure to keep an eye on SATS going forward to see if this recent jump can turn into more strength down the road.

We have no major economic reports out ahead of Friday’s opening bell in the stock market, and pre-market futures are buoying up again, with tariff progress being declared by the White House — not only with a tentative deal in the UK but also supposed progress with China. The Dow is +150 points at this hour, the S&P 500 is +25 and the Nasdaq +110 points.
Q1 Roundup Friday: SATS, UI, SHCO
With most of the marquee names for Q1 earnings season having already reported, we still see a few important, if not gigantic, stocks reporting this morning, giving us a glimpse into various aspect of the U.S. economy as of the end of calendar Q1:
Satellite telecom provider EchoStar SATS posted a narrower-than-expected bottom-line loss this morning, with earnings of -$0.71 per share an improvement from the -$0.90 expected, for a positive earnings surprise of +21%. Revenues of $3.87 billion amounted to a more modest beat, and down from $4.01 billion reported in the year-ago quarter. Shares are back up over $24.50 per share in early trading on the news. Wireless data communication supplier Ubiquiti UI shares are up +5% this morning on its strong fiscal Q3 beat on both top and bottom lines this morning. Earnings of $3.00 per share stormed past the $1.86 expected, for a +61% positive earnings surprise. Revenues came in +8% ahead of estimates to $664 million — way up from the $493 million brought in for the year-ago quarter. For more on UI’s earnings, click here.
Global private members’ club Soho House & Co. SHCO is up +7% in early trading this morning, following its huge +128.6% earnings beat: +$0.04 per share versus expectations of -$0.14. Revenues of $282.86 million tallied a +2.64% beat in the company’s Q1 release. This company taps pretty directly into Consumer Discretionary, and we can see Q1 2025 was a good quarter. What’s Happening Today in the Stock Market?
Again, no major economic prints are out today, but we will hear from a veritable deluge of Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) members today. These include Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee and St Louis President Alberto Musalem, and Fed Governors Christopher Waller, Lisa Cook and Michelle Bowman. Already this morning we’ve heard from Goivernors Adriana Kugler and Michael Barr, as well as New York Fed President John Williams and Richmond’s Tom Barkin.
What to Expect from the Market Next Week
Next week brings us a host of economic data, including Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) prints, Retail Sales, Empire State and Philly Fed surveys, Imports & Exports, Housing Starts & Building Permits, Homebuilder Confidence and Industrial Production & Capacity Utilization updates. We’ll begin to see the impact of the initial tariff actions with the April reports.

Making its debut on 08/13/2013, smart beta exchange traded fund Schwab Fundamental U.S. Small Company ETF (FNDA) provides investors broad exposure to the Style Box - Small Cap Value category of the market.
What Are Smart Beta ETFs?
Products that are based on market cap weighted indexes, which are strategies designed to reflect a specific market segment or the market as a whole, have traditionally dominated the ETF industry.
Market cap weighted indexes work great for investors who believe in market efficiency. They provide a low-cost, convenient and transparent way of replicating market returns.
However, some investors believe in the possibility of beating the market through exceptional stock selection, and choose a different type of fund that tracks non-cap weighted strategies: smart beta.
These indexes attempt to select stocks that have better chances of risk-return performance, based on certain fundamental characteristics or a combination of such characteristics.
This area offers many different investment choices, such as simplest equal-weighting, fundamental weighting and volatility/momentum based weighting methodologies; however, not all of these strategies can deliver superior results.

FNDA is managed by Charles Schwab, and this fund has amassed over $8.61 billion, which makes it one of the larger ETFs in the Style Box - Small Cap Value. FNDA seeks to match the performance of the Russell RAFI US Small Co. Index before fees and expenses.
The RAFI Fundamental High Liquidity US Small Index measures the performance of small U.S. companies based on their fundamental size and weight.
Cost & Other Expenses
For ETF investors, expense ratios are an important factor when considering a fund's return; in the long-term, cheaper funds actually have the ability to outperform their more expensive cousins if all other things remain the same.

Is Schwab Fundamental U.S. Small Company ETF (FNDA) a Strong ETF Right Now?

(RTTNews) - DIRECTV (DTV) said it has notified EchoStar of its election to terminate the Equity Purchase Agreement pursuant to which it had agreed to acquire EchoStar's video distribution business, DISH DBS. The termination follows DISH DBS noteholders' failure to agree to the proposed Exchange Debt Offer Terms issued by EchoStar, which was a condition of DIRECTV's obligations to acquire DISH.
The company noted that the termination of the DISH acquisition does not affect TPG's acquisition of the remaining 70% stake in DIRECTV from AT&T, which is expected to close in the second half of 2025.
