Tesla had cash/cash equivalents of $37 billion as of March 31, 2025. Long-term debt and finance leases, net of the current portion, totaled $5.3 billion, down from $5.7 billion as of Dec. 31, 2024. The company generated FCF of $664 million during the reported quarter, which fell from $2.8 billion generated in the year-ago period.
Strong Energy & Service and Other Businesses to Aid TSLA
Tesla’s energy storage deployments have been steadily growing over the past year, thanks to expanding Powerwall and Megapack capacity. In the first quarter of 2025, Powerwall deployment hit a record 1 GWh despite ongoing supply constraints. In the second quarter, the company deployed 9.6 GWh of energy storage products compared to 9.4 GWh in the second quarter of 2024. We expect revenues from Energy Generation & Storage business to be $3.04 billion, suggesting a rise of 0.7% year over year. We expect the gross margin from the Energy Generation & Storage business to rise 26.7% from 24.6% in the year-ago period.
In the first quarter of 2025, the company opened more than 1,800 new Supercharging stalls, indicating a rise of 17% year over year. Services and Other unit gross profit rose 25% year over year in the last reported quarter, aided by stronger maintenance and collision services. Services & Other revenues are expected to be around $3.15 billion, suggesting an increase of 20.7% year over year. Gross margin of Services & Other business is expected to be around 10%, up from 6.4% in the year-ago quarter.
While Tesla's core EV business is struggling with weaker deliveries, rising gross profit from Energy & Service and Other Businesses is likely to have somewhat offset Tesla’s losses in the second quarter.

Much of this discount is warranted. Rivian's sales growth should be a lot slower this year than Lucid's. Tesla, meanwhile, has a significant capital advantage, as well as long-term upside from exciting opportunities like its robotaxi division.
Starting in 2026, however, everything will change for Rivian, reenergizing growth rates right as the stock's valuation hovers around multi-year lows.
In early 2026, Rivian expects to begin production of the R2, a midsize SUV with an expected price tag of around $45,000. Soon after, production of the R3 and R3X -- midsize SUVs with even lower starting price points -- is expected to begin. By the end of next year, Rivian will potentially more than double its current lineup, adding significantly more affordable options that will attract the attention of tens of millions of new buyers.
It won't just be sales that climb next year. Rivian's gross margin may also improve due to greater economies of scale. Already, the company has experienced a 34% drop in R1 manufacturing costs simply by getting the R2 ready for production. Overall margins may suffer from the recent elimination of federal regulatory credits. But Rivian's long-term, normalized margins should be on the rise.

What did Tesla do?
The first Tesla was a fancy, high-end sports car. That vehicle proved to the world that electric vehicles (EVs) were a real product that customers would want to buy. For a long time the large automakers shunned EVs as not being viable. After Tesla proved the concept, it brought out sedans that would appeal to more than just car enthusiasts.
Those higher-end EVs sold well and, suddenly, every major automaker realized that they had to make EVs. If they didn't jump on the bandwagon they could get boxed out of a new segment auto market. As that was going on, Tesla pivoted again, bringing out lower-cost models of its EVs that had mass-market appeal. That helped to boost sales volumes in the capital-intensive business and improve profitability.
Essentially, Tesla started with rich customers. But there are only so many rich customers. And, thus, it moved down market to build a sustainably profitable business. That's a simplification of a very long process, of course, but it is the general theme that's important. Rivian is following the Tesla playbook.
Start high-end, then go mass-market
Rivian currently makes two kinds of trucks, a delivery vehicle and a high-end consumer pickup truck. The delivery vehicle was an important proof of concept that helped the company develop its technology. It also allowed Rivian to generate some early revenue thanks to a relationship with Amazon. Consider the delivery truck similar to Tesla's sports car.
As it was proving that its technology was reliable, Rivian was also building fancy high-end pickups for the consumer market. The trucks have been well-received, and Rivian has been able to ramp up production and fine tune its production processes along the way. In fact, it was able to turn a modest gross profit in the fourth quarter of 2024 and in the first quarter of 2025.
This means that Rivian stopped losing money on every truck it sold, though costs further down the earnings statement, like research and development (R&D) and selling, general, and administrative expenses (SG&A), still leave it bleeding red ink.
This is where scale becomes important. Rivian needs to spread its costs over more vehicle sales, which is basically what Tesla did. The next big vehicle release for Rivian is the R2, which is a lower-cost truck meant for the mass market. The goal is to start production in the first half of 2026. With around $7 billion of cash on the balance sheet and a key partnership with auto giant Volkswagen, it seems highly probable that Rivian gets that factory up and running.
The real test of Rivian's business will come when it starts selling the R2. If sales are robust the company will have successfully taken Tesla's playbook and achieved similar wins. And the added volume from R2 sales should help move Rivian toward sustainable profitability, just like Tesla achieved.
Rivian is high-risk, but executing well
Rivian remains a high-risk investment that's only appropriate for more aggressive investors. If the company doesn't execute well it could still fall short of its goals in what is a very complex and competitive auto sector. However, the launch of the R2 could be the big turning point for Rivian that turns it into the "next Tesla."
OK, no company is ever going to be Tesla, given that the company effectively created the EV space. But Rivian's R2 could make it the next best thing.

For the second quarter, the consensus estimate for Garrett’s earnings has moved up four cents in the past 30 days. Its bottom-line estimates imply 32.14% growth from the year-ago reported number.

There were a number of factors that influenced Nvidia's sell-off.
First was the emergence of a Chinese start-up called DeepSeek, which claimed to build its impressive R1 artificial intelligence (AI) model using older Nvidia chips. This led some investors to fear that Nvidia's newest, high-priced chipsets may no longer be necessary to support the world's growing AI infrastructure.
Beyond DeepSeek, investors were also concerned about how new U.S. tariff policies would impact Nvidia's growth prospects overseas. Lastly, rising competition from Advanced Micro Devices, as well as investment in custom silicon from cloud hyperscalers like Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet, gave credence to the idea that Nvidia's best days may be in the rearview mirror.
However, following a bullish earnings report back in May, investors seem to now consider these concerns overblown. As of July 11, Nvidia's market cap is just over $4 trillion -- making the semiconductor darling the most valuable business in the world once again.
With shares rocketing higher, it's worth taking a look at Nvidia's valuation trends to assess whether the stock remains a good buy or if some investors have missed the boat.
Analyzing Nvidia's valuation multiples
The chart below illustrates Nvidia's price-to-sales (P/S) and forward price-to-earnings (P/E) multiples over the last few years.
As you can see, Nvidia's current P/S and forward P/E ratios are well below the highs previously seen during the AI revolution. To be clear, this does not necessarily mean Nvidia is destined to reach or eclipse its prior P/S of 46 and forward earnings multiple of 51.
Furthermore, the company's multiples do not necessarily need to expand in order for the company to increase in value. Nvidia's future valuation hinges on the company's growth potential.
Lets explore some catalysts that could lead to meaningful growth for Nvidia over the next several years.
What catalysts does Nvidia have?
For the last few years, the majority of Nvidia's growth has come from its data center operation. Nvidia designs industry-leading GPUs that are used by the world's largest businesses in their development of generative AI capabilities.
However, the company has a number of opportunities outside of AI data centers that investors may be overlooking.
First, companies such as Tesla and Alphabet have invested billions developing autonomous driving technology. Nvidia is tapped into self-driving cars too -- during the first quarter, it generated $567 million in sales from its automotive services businesses. This represented 72% year-over-year growth, giving the segment an annual revenue run rate of $2.3 billion. To put that into perspective, Nvidia's data center business generates well over $100 billion in sales per year.
While the automotive segment is unlikely to become as large as the data center business, I'm confident Nvidia has much more room to grow in this area as autonomous vehicle technology continues to scale. With partners including General Motors, Toyota Motor, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Rivian Automotive, BYD and many more, Nvidia stands to benefit from the broader rise of self-driving cars, making the company an agnostic beneficiary of the autonomous vehicle opportunity.
Another related opportunity is the rise of AI-powered robotics. Companies such as Tesla and Figure AI are building humanoid robots that are meant to facilitate the workforce in labor-intensive environments such as warehouses. Moreover, Amazon is integrating a number of robotics-driven processes into its fulfillment centers in order to drive more efficiency.
Nvidia is an investor in Figure AI, and CEO Jensen Huang has touted robotics as multitrillion-dollar opportunity within the broader AI realm.
Lastly, while companies such as IonQ and Rigetti Computing fetch most of the attention in the world of quantum computing, Nvidia is not a name investors want to sleep on.
Outside of hardware, Nvidia also develops an AI software platform called CUDA. The company has quietly adapted this architecture for other applications with quantum computing being one of them via the introduction of the CUDA-Q platform.
Is Nvidia stock a buy right now?
One thread that stitches autonomous driving, robotics, and quantum computing together is that all three technologies are incredibly nascent. Their commercial reach remains limited, but each has the potential to disrupt a number of industries on a global scale. And Nvidia sits right in the middle with the chips and software to power these technologies.
With Nvidia's valuation multiples down from their peak levels, many investors may see the business as a maturing operation. Others may have doubts around Nvidia's ability to continue accelerating growth and are therefore pricing in some of this risk.
Given the ideas explored above, I think Nvidia stock is headed higher in the long-run. The resiliency of the company's share price combined with numerous opportunities capable of unlocking further revenue and profits has me optimistic that Nvidia will eclipse its current valuation in the long run.
For these reasons, I think now is a compelling time to scoop up some shares of Nvidia and prepare to hold on tight. The next growth wave appears to be just getting started.

After Losing More Than $1 Trillion in Market Cap Earlier This Year, Nvidia Has Reclaimed Its Position as the World's Most Valuable Company. Here's Why I Think It's Headed Even Higher.

Looking at options trading activity among components of the Russell 3000 index, there is noteworthy activity today in Waters Corp. (Symbol: WAT), where a total volume of 2,130 contracts has been traded thus far today, a contract volume which is representative of approximately 213,000 underlying shares (given that every 1 contract represents 100 underlying shares). That number works out to 45.4% of WAT's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 468,655 shares. Particularly high volume was seen for the $320 strike call option expiring November 21, 2025, with 480 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 48,000 underlying shares of WAT. Anavex Life Sciences Corp (Symbol: AVXL) options are showing a volume of 4,481 contracts thus far today. Rivian could be the next Tesla
If I had to identify the next Tesla, Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN) would be my top choice. The company recently achieved positive gross margins for the first time, adding significant credibility to its ability to survive financially. But the biggest reason for optimism is still ahead.
By early 2026, management expects to begin production of three new vehicles. All are expected to be priced under $50,000. That's a huge deal. Being able to produce an EV at this price point is difficult for most EV start-ups to achieve. As both Tesla and Rivian have proven, it can often take more than a decade, not to mention billions of dollars in investment.
Producing cheap vehicles under $50,000 -- so-called "mass market" vehicles -- is a huge deal for several reasons. First, it will allow Rivian to tap tens of millions of new buyers. Today, Tesla's mass market vehicles account for more than 90% of its vehicle sales. That's a huge testament to its ability to grow an EV business rapidly. Getting these vehicles to market will give Rivian a multiyear runway for sizable growth. Second, purchasers are more cost conscious than ever. Recent surveys show that more than 80% of car buyers would cancel their order if prices rose by 25%.
Trading at just 2.8 times earnings, Rivian's growth potential in 2026 and 2027 doesn't seem fully accounted for in the company's stock price.
This EV stock has huge growth potential
Speaking of huge growth possibilities, arguably no EV stock today has more upside potential than Lucid Group (NASDAQ: LCID). With a market cap of just $7 billion, Lucid is less than half the size of Rivian, and less than 1% the size of Tesla. On a market cap basis alone, Lucid has a lot of room for growth.
Like Rivian, Lucid is planning to start production of several new mass market vehicles next year, though the recent departure of its CEO and a relatively limited access to capital may push this timeline out a bit. Still, by 2027, expect Lucid to have at least one model priced under $50,000 in its lineup.
More than 30 EV start-ups have gone under in the past decade. And Lucid still has a long way to go to get its mass market vehicles on the road. But the growth potential is clearly there. Investors looking to get aggressive to maximize growth potential should take a closer look.
Tesla still has plenty of room to grow
No list of promising EV stocks would be complete without Tesla. With a $960 billion market cap, Tesla is clearly the industry giant. But according to some analysts, the company's biggest days of growth remain ahead.
Last month, Tesla officially launched its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas. While the rollout has been rocky, Tesla is reportedly planning to expand this service to new areas of Austin relatively soon. How big could this global robotaxi market get? Cathie Wood, CEO of ARK Invest, think the market size will eventually reach $10 trillion. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives thinks this opportunity could soon add $1 trillion to Tesla's market cap.
Rivian and Lucid's diminutive size likely grants them higher raw upside potential. But Tesla's robotaxi division could surprise the market by fueling another decade of impressive growth for the company.

Expectations are incredibly low for this exciting growth stock
In 2021, several electric car stocks went public to great fanfare. Expectations were incredibly high, and at one point, some EV stocks were trading at 7,500 times sales.
After going public on Nov. 10, 2021, investors expected big things from Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN). Unfortunately, reality did not meet expectations. Sales grew from essentially zero to more than $5 billion in the years that followed the company's IPO but the stock price sank by nearly 90%. Why? Because the market had priced in even more growth than the company was capable of. This is a great reminder to investors: No matter how fast a company is growing, it will ultimately be the price you pay for a stock that determines your final return. Pay too much for growth, and you can still lose money over time.
Right now, Rivian's valuation is near rock bottom. Shares trade at just 2.8 times sales -- a far cry from its 60 times sales valuation in 2022. For comparison, Tesla trades at roughly 11 times sales, with EV maker Lucid Group trading at around 7 times sales. As we'll see, however, Rivian's growth could be about to surge once again, making today's valuation shockingly cheap.
Will Rivian become the next Amazon?
Rivian reminds me of Amazon back before its growth really took off. Rivian has the potential to become a $1 trillion stock. Just look at Tesla. While Tesla has other business segments like solar, distributed battery systems, and a fledgling robotaxi division, the vast majority of its sales still come from electric vehicles. Even before the excitement over Tesla's robotaxi service took hold, the company attained a $1 trillion market cap on several occasions. From today's valuation, Rivian stock would need to rise roughly 65 times in value to reach a $1 trillion market cap. This type of rise would turn a $15,000 investment into more than $1 million.
Is this type of rise possible for Rivian? Absolutely. But as with Amazon, it will take many years to fully play out. The company currently only has two vehicles in its lineup: the R1T and R1S. Both can cost upward of $100,000, depending on options. But starting in 2026, management expects to begin production of three new models, all priced under $50,000. When Tesla launched its affordable models -- the Model Y and Model 3 -- sales exploded, turning it into the company it is today. The same could soon be true for Rivian despite its rock-bottom valuation.
Rivian has a lot of similarities to Amazon in 1999. Shares were once priced for perfection, only to suffer gigantic losses. But the long-term growth potential remains. Investors willing to stay patient could replicate Amazon's impressive long-term gains.

1 Super Growth Stock Is Down 90% and Reminds Me of Amazon in 1999

Tesla TSLA has been a polarizing stock over the last decade, delivering massive gains for investors as we increasingly shift toward EVs.
And in 2025, shares have been volatile, down 25% overall with big price swings.
Notably, the stock currently sports an unfavorable Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell), with analysts revising their EPS expectations negatively across the board in a big way over recent months.

The downward revisions paint a challenging picture for TSLA’s share performance in the near term, and investors can expect a heightened level of volatility here given the stock’s historical nature.
With that said, let’s take a closer look at its latest set of quarterly results and a big competitor, Rivian Automotive RIVN.
Tesla Faces Sales Decline
Tesla reported Q1 revenue of $19.3 billion and adjusted EPS of $0.27 in its latest release, reflecting year-over-year declines of 9% and 50%, respectively. Still, results from Tesla’s Energy Generation & Storage segment reflected some positivity, with sales climbing 67% year-over-year to $2.7 billion.

Concerning EV production/deliveries, Tesla delivered roughly 337k EVs and produced nearly 363k throughout the period.
While the EV numbers are important, another critical aspect of the release was the margin picture, with the company’s gross margin contracting to 16.3% vs. a 17.4% print in the same period last year. Please note that the margins chart below is calculated on a trailing twelve-month basis.

The crunched profitability has been a big headwind for the stock, regularly dictating post-earnings price movements as of late.
Rivian Sees Upward EPS Revisions
Rivian shares have been much stronger in 2025 so far, gaining roughly 2% compared to Tesla’s 25% decline. Its latest set of quarterly results was primarily positive, with gross profit of $206 million reflecting a quarterly record.
Notably, the company produced roughly 14.6k vehicles throughout the period, delivering 8.6k. While the numbers are miniscule compared to that of Tesla, the results remained in-line with management’s previous guidance, a critical hurdle to clear for any EV player.
It’s worth noting here that while Rivian has 100% US vehicle manufacturing and sources most materials (excluding cells) in the US, it’s still not immune to the impacts of the current global trade and economic environment. The company revised its current-year guidance concerning vehicle deliveries as a result, now expecting FY25 deliveries in a range of 40-60k.
The earnings outlook for Rivian remains bullish, with the current Zacks Consensus EPS estimate of -$2.49 up 14% over the last several months. The company has enjoyed positive revisions across nearly all timeframes, as shown below.

Putting Everything Together
Tesla TSLA shares have been big-time winners over the past decade for many, but recent performance has undoubtedly left a sour taste in many mouths.
The recent profitability crunch and slowing sales growth are driving forces behind the stock’s poor performance, with competition also quickly becoming fierce. Rivian RIVN shares have been much stronger in 2025, with the company’s EPS outlook much more favorable.
Given Tesla’s current Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell) rating, investors would be better off waiting on positive EPS revisions, which would signal a bullish turnaround in sentiment.
