QUALCOMM Incorporated engages in the development and commercialization of foundational technologies for the wireless industry worldwide. It operates through three segments: Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT); Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL); and Qualcomm Strategic Initiatives (QSI). The QCT segment develops and supplies integrated circuits and system software based on 3G/4G/5G and other technologies for use in wireless voice and data communications, networking, computing, multimedia, and position location products. The QTL segment grants licenses or provides rights to use portions of its intellectual property portfolio, which include various patent rights useful in the manufacture and sale of wireless products comprising products implementing CDMA2000, WCDMA, LTE and/or OFDMA-based 5G standards and their derivatives. The QSI segment invests in early-stage companies in various industries, including 5G, artificial intelligence, automotive, consumer, enterprise, cloud, IoT, and extended reality, and investments, including non-marketable equity securities and, to a lesser extent, marketable equity securities, and convertible debt instruments. Microsoft clearly doesn't plan on cutting the amount of its code written by AI. Nadella himself said it was steadily increasing, and CTO Kevin Scott predicted that by 2030, 95% of the company's code might be written by AI.
With that in mind, what is the best way to play AI becoming a permanent part of the IT industry? By my math, one of the best single-ticker ways to play it is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE: TSM).
Small island, big footprint
Taiwan is where a full 60% of all the world's semiconductor chips are produced.
But the country's footprint is even bigger than that implies because 90% of the world's advanced semiconductor chips, those 7 nanometers (nm) or smaller, are produced in Taiwan.
And those are the chips you need to run the high-end AI programs Microsoft and others are using to write their code.
Microsoft uses a lot of Nvidia hardware to run its AI. So does pretty much everyone else. IOT Analytics reports that Nvidia controls 92% of the data center GPU market. Its nearest competitor is Advanced Micro Devices at 4%.
But those Nvidia graphics processor units (GPUs) are manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor. So are its competitor AMD's, along with Apple, Broadcom, Qualcomm and others, either in whole or in part.
In fact, Nvidia's top-of-the-line Blackwell chip is produced at a Taiwan Semiconductor factory in Arizona.
Creating an even bigger footprint
The semiconductor chip market, and by extension the AI data center hardware market, simply does not exist without Taiwan Semiconductor, which doesn't design any of the chips it produces.
Taiwan Semiconductor is a "pure foundry" company. All it does is produce chips on contract. But it's utterly dominant in the space, with 72% market share as of Q3 2025. Samsung is in second place with 7%.
You've heard of pick-and-shovel plays, I'm sure. But Taiwan Semiconductor is the pick-and-shovel play for the AI industry and the tech industry more broadly.
And the company is expanding its footprint beyond Taiwan to build up its global dominance. The semiconductor factory in Arizona I mentioned is being expanded by Taiwan Semiconductor to produce more chips in the U.S., and ultimately the company plans to have six factories and two advanced packaging facilities in the state.Taiwan Semiconductor also has plans drawn up to expand its manufacturing footprint in Japan and Germany.
And all that expansion is not coming at the cost of the company's bottom line, which remains incredibly healthy.
Trillion-dollar baby
Right now, Taiwan Semiconductor is one of only two non-American companies with a market cap of $1 trillion or more. Its latest results reflect its size and influence well.
2025 saw the company's revenue top $122.4 billion, an increase of 35.9% over 2024. Its diluted earnings per share (EPS) grew 46.4%. Taiwan Semiconductor also maintains stellar profitability with a 45% net profit margin.
The company is also projecting 30% revenue growth for 2026 and a revenue compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25% through 2029.
Finally, Taiwan Semiconductor is trading at a price-to-earnings-to growth (PEG) ratio of 1.2 right now, which means it's very close to fair value relative to future earnings projections.
Put all that together, and you have a solid long-term buy-and-hold prospect from the one-ticker pick-and-shovel play of the entire global tech industry.
And if Microsoft wants to generate 95% of its code with AI by 2030, it's going to need a lot more hardware, which Taiwan Semiconductor will gladly produce, and in all likelihood continue its growth streak moving forward.

The US granted a temporary waiver allowing buyers to take Russian oil cargoes already at sea. The US Treasury granted a month-long waiver to import Russian oil loaded before Thursday, covering Russian crude oil and fuel on about 30 tankers carrying at least 19 million barrels. The Financial Times reported that France and Italy have opened talks with Iran to try to negotiate a deal to guarantee the safe passage of their ships through the Strait of Hormuz. US officials said Iran has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, an effort that could further complicate US efforts to restart shipping in the waterway. Despite the US destroying most large ships in the Iranian navy used to lay mines, Iran began using smaller boats for the operation on Thursday, according to a US official briefed on the intelligence. Goldman Sachs warns that crude prices could exceed the 2008 record high of close to $150 a barrel, should crude flows via the Strait of Hormuz remain depressed through March.
The latest rhetoric from President Trump and Iranian leader Khamenei suggests there will be no immediate easing in the war that has disrupted energy shipments in the Middle East and spurred concerns about rising inflation. Global bond yields have soared this week on inflation fears, with the German 10-year bund yield rising to a 2.25-year high of 2.99% today and the 10-year T--note yield climbing to a 5-week high at 4.28%.
Crude oil prices remain elevated despite attempts to boost global supplies. The IEA on Wednesday released 400 million barrels from emergency oil stockpiles and said the war against Iran is disrupting 7.5% of global oil supply, and the conflict will cut global oil supply by 8 million bpd this month. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas flows, has choked off oil and gas flows due to Iran’s attacks on shipping in the waterway and forced Gulf producers to cut output because they can’t export from the region.
Today’s US economic news is mixed for stocks. Jan personal spending rose more than expected, but Jan capital goods new orders nondefense ex-aircraft and parts, a proxy for capital spending, were weaker than expected. Also, Q4 GDP was revised lower, and the Jan core PCE price index, the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, rose by the most in 1.75 years.

The US Jan core PCE price index, the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, rose +3.1% y/y, right on expectations and the highest in 1.75 years.
US Jan capital goods new orders nondefense ex-aircraft and parts were unchanged m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.5% m/m.
US Q4 GDP was revised downward to +0.7% (q/q annualized) from the previously reported +1.4% as Q4 personal consumption was revised lower to +2.0% from the previously reported +2.4%.
Q4 earnings season is nearly over, with more than 98% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 74% of the 495 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 0% chance for a -25 bp FOMC rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets are mixed. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up +0.33%. China's Shanghai Composite closed down -0.82%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -1.16%.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) today are up by +7 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is down -1.6 bp to 4.245%. June T-notes are moving higher today, and the 10-year T-note yield fell from a 5-week high of 4.279%. Today’s 2% decline in WTI crude oil prices has lowered inflation expectations and is bullish for T-notes. Also, today’s US economic news, which showed Q4 GDP revised lower and Jan capital goods new orders climbing less than expected, was supportive of T-notes.
European government bond yields moved higher on Thursday. The 10-year German bund yield fell from a 2.25-year high of 2.992% and is down -1.0 bp to 2.947%. The 10-year UK gilt yield fell from a 6.25-month high of 4.812% and is down -1.2 bp to 4.761%.
UK Jan GDP was unchanged m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.2% m/m.
UK Jan manufacturing production rose +0.1% m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.2% m/m.
Swaps are discounting a 3% chance of a -25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
Chip stocks and AI-infrastructure companies are moving higher today, a supportive factor for the broader market. Western Digital (WDC) is up more than +4%, and Micron Technology (MU) is up more than +3%. Also, Intel (INTC), Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX), Lam Research (LRCX), and Applied Materials (AMAT) are up more than +2%. In addition, ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), Microchip Technology (MCHP), NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI), Qualcomm (QCOM), and Texas Instruments (TXN) are up more than +1%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks are climbing today, with Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) up more than +3% at a 1-week high. Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) is up more than +6%, and MARA Holdings (MARA) and Riot Platforms (RIOT) are up more than +5%. Also, Strategy (MSTR) is up more than +4%, and Coinbase Global (COIN) is up more than +3%.
Fertilizer stocks are retreating today, giving back some of this week’s sharp gains. Intrepid Potash (IPI) is down more than -7%, CF Industries Holdings (CF) is down more than -5%, and Mosaic (MOS) is down more than -3%.
Klarna Group Plc (KLAR) is up more than +9% after an SEC filing showed Chairman Morits purchased 3.47 million shares through an associated entity between March 3 and March 11.
Circle Internet Group (CRCL) is up more than +4% after Mizuho Securities raised its price target on the stock to $120 from $100.
Karman Holdings (KRMN) is up more than +3% after Needham & Co issued a buy recommendation on the stock with a price target of $125.
Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings (KNX) is up more than +2% after Citigroup upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $64.
Celanese (CE) is up more than +1% after Wells Fargo Securities upgraded the stock to overweight from equal weight with a price target of $70.
Air Products and Chemicals (APD) is up more than +1% after Wells Fargo Securities upgraded the stock to overweight from equal weight with a price target of $325.
EverCommerce (EVCM) is down more than -18% after forecasting Q1 revenue of $145.5 million to $148.5 million, well below the consensus of $151 million.
Ulta Beauty (ULTA) is down more than -9% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after it forecast full-year comparable sales will increase 2.5% to 3.5%, below the consensus of 3.5%.
Adobe (ADBE) is down more than -4% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100 after CEO Narayen said he will resign and remain in his post until a successor has been appointed.
Meta Platforms (META) is down more than -2% after the New York Times reported that the company’s latest AI model has underperformed expectations and will be delayed.
ServiceTitan (TTAN) is down more than -2% after reporting a Q4 EPS loss of -44 cents, wider than the consensus of -41 cents.

Stocks Retreat From Initial Highs as Oil Prices Rebound

In the latest close session, Qualcomm (QCOM) was down 2.21% at $131.15. This move lagged the S&P 500's daily loss of 1.52%. Elsewhere, the Dow lost 1.56%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq lost 1.78%.
Prior to today's trading, shares of the chipmaker had lost 4.91% lagged the Computer and Technology sector's loss of 1.66% and the S&P 500's loss of 2.25%.
The investment community will be closely monitoring the performance of Qualcomm in its forthcoming earnings report. The company is expected to report EPS of $2.57, down 9.82% from the prior-year quarter. Simultaneously, our latest consensus estimate expects the revenue to be $10.58 billion, showing a 2.39% drop compared to the year-ago quarter.

QCOM Chips to Power AI Robotics Capabilities: Will it Boost Prospects?

In early trading on Tuesday, shares of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, topped the list of the day's best performing components of the Nasdaq 100 index, trading up 7.8%. Year to date, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, registers a 9.5% gain.
And the worst performing Nasdaq 100 component thus far on the day is Atlassian, trading down 4.8%. Atlassian is lower by about 51.8% looking at the year to date performance.
Two other components making moves today are Qualcomm, trading down 3.6%, and Western Digital, trading up 5.6% on the day.

NVIDIA Corporation NVDA shares have soared 67.3% over the past year, outperforming the broader Zacks Semiconductor – General industry’s rise of 59.2%. NVDA has even outpaced major semiconductor companies, including QUALCOMM QCOM, STMicroelectronics STM and Texas Instruments TXN. Shares of STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments have gained 34.5% and 10.4% in the trailing 12 months, while shares of QUALCOMM have declined 9.8%.

NVIDIA has been a key beneficiary of the artificial intelligence (AI) boom, which has driven strong demand for its graphics processing units (GPUs) and computing solutions. As the demand for hardware supporting AI and high-performance computing is likely to remain strong, NVDA is well-positioned to benefit. This makes the stock a better investment option right now.
Data Center Business: Key Growth Catalyst for NVIDIA
NVIDIA’s most powerful growth engine continues to be its Data Center business. In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, the segment generated $62.31 billion in revenues, representing 91.5% of total sales. This marked a staggering 75% year-over-year increase and 22% sequential growth.
The robust performance was mainly driven by higher shipments of the Blackwell GPU computing platforms that are used for the training and inference of large language models, recommendation engines and generative AI applications.
The demand for NVIDIA’s Blackwell GPU computing platforms has been a key catalyst as cloud providers and enterprises scale their AI infrastructure. Large cloud service providers contributed to the majority of Data Center revenues, indicating continued hyperscale investment in AI-driven computing.
With AI adoption accelerating across industries, NVIDIA's stronghold in data centers makes it a critical beneficiary of this trend. The company’s leadership in AI chip development positions it well for sustained revenue growth in this segment.
NVIDIA’s Strong Financial Performance
Despite ongoing macroeconomic challenges, geopolitical issues, and trade and tariff wars, NVIDIA’s financials remain rock solid. In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, revenues jumped 73% from the year-ago quarter, while non-GAAP earnings per share rose 82%.
NVIDIA’s outlook for the first quarter of fiscal 2027 remains upbeat. The company expects first-quarter revenues to increase 77% year over year to $78 billion, reflecting continued momentum in AI-driven demand. The non-GAAP gross margin is expected to be strong at 75%, indicating a 370-basis-point improvement from the year-ago quarter’s 71.3% (excluding H20 charge).
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal 2027 and 2028 suggests continued growth momentum for the company’s top and bottom lines.

NVIDIA’s cash flow generation also remains robust. It generated a free cash flow of $36.19 billion in the fiscal fourth quarter and $102.72 billion in fiscal 2026. The company ended the fiscal fourth quarter with $62.6 billion in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities, up from $60.6 billion in the previous quarter.
This strong liquidity position enables NVIDIA to reinvest in research and development, expand manufacturing capabilities and return capital to shareholders. In the fiscal fourth quarter, the company returned $243 million to its shareholders through dividend payouts and repurchased stocks worth $3.82 billion. In fiscal 2026, NVIDIA paid out $974 million in dividends and bought back shares worth $40.09 billion.
Favorable Valuation Justifies Buying NVIDIA Stock
Despite the rally, NVIDIA stock trades at a reasonable valuation multiple. It trades at a forward 12-month price-to-earnings (P/E) of 22.73X compared with the industry average of 24.5X.

Compared to other semiconductor peers, NVIDIA has a higher P/E multiple than QUALCOMM but a lower multiple than STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments. Currently, QUALCOMM, STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments trade at P/E of 11.99X, 26.08X and 29.22X, respectively.
Conclusion: Buy NVDA Stock for Now
NVIDIA’s strong fundamentals, dominant position in AI and impressive growth outlook make a compelling case for staying invested. The company’s reasonable valuations support buying the stock.

IYW, CRM, APH, QCOM: Large Outflows Detected at ETF

A month has gone by since the last earnings report for Qualcomm (QCOM). Shares have added about 0.5% in that time frame, outperforming the S&P 500.
But investors have to be wondering, will the recent positive trend continue leading up to its next earnings release, or is Qualcomm due for a pullback? Well, first let's take a quick look at the most recent earnings report in order to get a better handle on the recent drivers for QUALCOMM Incorporated before we dive into how investors and analysts have reacted as of late.
Qualcomm Surpasses Q1 Earnings Estimates on Record Revenues
Qualcomm reported strong first-quarter fiscal 2026 results, with record revenues driven by healthy demand trends in IoT and automotive businesses. Adjusted earnings exceeded the Zacks Consensus Estimate, led by the strength of its business model, diversification initiatives and its ability to respond proactively to the evolving market scenario. However, revenues missed the consensus estimate despite increasing year over year.
Net Income
On a GAAP basis, net income in the December quarter was $3 billion or $2.78 per share compared with $3.18 billion or $2.83 per share in the prior-year quarter. Despite healthy revenue growth, the bottom line declined primarily due to higher operating costs.
Non-GAAP net income for the reported quarter came in at $3.78 billion or $3.50 per share compared with $3.83 billion or $3.41 per share in the year-ago quarter. The bottom line beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 11 cents.
Revenues
Total revenues in the fiscal first quarter were $12.25 billion, up from $11.67 billion in the year-ago quarter. The top line, however, missed the consensus mark of $12.28 billion. Qualcomm registered record automotive and handset revenues owing to solid momentum in the Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform and launches of flagship smartphones. Strength within the industrial Internet of Things (IoT) businesses also buoyed the top line.
Segment Results
Quarterly revenues from Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT) were $10.61 billion, up from $10.08 billion a year ago, as strength in the automotive platform, higher demand in handsets and Snapdragon chipset within the IoT business aided top-line growth. The company witnessed solid market traction in the EDGE networking business that helps transform connectivity in cars, business enterprises, homes, smart factories, next-generation PCs, wearables and tablets.
Automotive revenues rose 15% to a record high of $1.1 billion, driven by increased content in new vehicle launches with its Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform, with automakers deploying high-performance, low-power computing and connectivity chips to bring next-generation experience to consumers. Handset revenues jumped 3% to $7.82 billion, led by healthy traction in premium Android handsets enabled by broad OEM adoption for dual flagship products and transition toward AI-native smartphones. IoT revenues were up 9% to $1.69 billion on solid demand across consumer and networking products. EBT margin for the QCT segment declined marginally to 31% from 32%.
Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL) revenues totaled $1.59 billion, up 4% year over year, with EBT margin increasing to 77% from 75%.
Cash Flow & Liquidity
Qualcomm generated $4.96 billion of net cash from operating activities in the reported quarter compared with $4.59 billion a year ago. As of Dec. 28, 2025, the company had $7.2 billion in cash and cash equivalents with $14.82 billion of long-term debt. The company repurchased 15 million shares during the quarter for $2.6 billion.
Guidance
For the second quarter of fiscal 2026, Qualcomm expects GAAP revenues of $10.2-$11 billion due to reduced chip orders and near-term uncertainty in memory supply and pricing for handset OEMs. Non-GAAP earnings are projected to be $2.45-$2.65 per share, while GAAP earnings are likely to be $1.69-$1.89 per share. Revenues from QTL are expected to be between $1.2 billion and $1.4 billion. For QCT, the company anticipates revenues between $8.8 billion and $9.4 billion, with constrained handset revenues of about $6 billion, solid automotive revenues (up nearly 35% year over year) and healthy IoT revenues (up low teens percentage).

What Ails QCOM?
The continued U.S.-China trade spat has dented Qualcomm’s growth potential. The chip-making firm has a significant presence in more than 12 cities in China, aiming to drive advancements in semiconductors and mobile telecommunications for the larger benefit. The company has been a key supplier of chips and other related components to local smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi, Huawei and its spin-off brand Honor. However, it appears that Qualcomm is increasingly finding it difficult to maintain its operations in China.
The U.S. Commerce Department has long imposed various trade restrictions on China, including bans on the sale of high-tech equipment, chips, components and related technologies used to develop high-end smartphones and AI-enabled chips. As Washington tightens trade restrictions, Beijing has intensified its push for self-sufficiency in critical industries. This shift poses a dual challenge for QCOM, as it faces potential market restrictions and increased competition from domestic chipmakers. In addition, weaker spending across consumer and enterprise markets, especially in China, led to higher customer inventory levels.
Demand Softness Hurts QCOM
Qualcomm is expected to face softness in demand in the near term. For the second quarter of fiscal 2026, Qualcomm expects GAAP revenues of $10.2-$11 billion with constrained handset revenues of about $6 billion, due to reduced chip orders and near-term uncertainty in memory supply and pricing for handset OEMs. In addition, OEMs based in the communist nation are largely pulling back on new 4G device orders and managing their inventory in advance for the transition to 5G. Consequently, Qualcomm expects a significant impact on device shipments as sell-in and sell-through growth rates realign and channel inventory levels are drawn down.
QCOM Margins Eroded by High R&D Costs
To add to the woes, Qualcomm's margins have declined over the years due to high operating expenses and R&D (research & development) costs. The company expects softness in the handset market and a weaker overall mix of devices to continue in the near future. The shift in the share among original equipment manufacturers at the premium tier has reduced the near-term opportunity to sell integrated chipsets from the Snapdragon platform.
In addition, Qualcomm faces stiff competitive pressures from rivals Broadcom and Hewlett Packard. Aggressive competition from low-cost chip manufacturers and established players in the mobile phone chipset market is also likely to hurt Qualcomm's profits. Although the global smartphone market is expected to maintain its momentum over the next three to four years, a major portion of this growth is likely to come from the low-cost emerging markets, which may weigh on Qualcomm's margins.

Qualcomm’s shares have declined 15% over the past year against the industry’s growth of 57.1%. It has lagged peers like Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company HPE and Broadcom Inc. AVGO. While Hewlett Packard has jumped 35.8%, Broadcom surged 69.7% over this period.
