History says
With the dust of this mid-June IPO finally settling, it's time to say out loud what most people have only been quietly thinking to themselves. That is, like almost all other major initial public offerings for the past three decades, this one was buoyed by hype that was never built to last.
The stock could continue sinking before finding a bottom, too. Brokerage firm Edward Jones reports that between 2011 and 2020 -- a period when then-Facebook Meta, Peloton, Snapchat parent Snap, and Twitter (now X) all went public -- the average newly minted technology stock was down 14% from its IPO price just six months following its public offering. Again, IPO hype has an all-too-familiar pattern. Never mind the end of the lockups keeping current SPCX shareholders from shedding their now-deteriorating positions, which, of course, would only add to the selling pressure.
Longer-term, still a long shot
Just don't feel like you necessarily need to forego a stake in SpaceX forever. Post-IPO performance numbers from Nasdaq Economic Research indicate that between 2010 and 2020, newly public companies generating annual revenue in excess of $100 million end up, on average, at least keeping pace with the broad market's gains, if not slightly beating them.
Still, take that information with a grain of salt. While the average three-year performance is positive, this average is skewed by a small handful of overperformers. Nearly two-thirds of these stocks were still in the red three years after their IPO.
In other words, don't bet the farm if you decide to go bottom-fishing.

On July 7, Space Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX) is scheduled to begin trading as a member of the Nasdaq-100 index. The Nasdaq-100 comprises the 100 largest non-financial companies listed on Nasdaq, weighted by market capitalization.
For SpaceX, inclusion in the index represents a significant step toward mainstream recognition beyond technology investors. With that said, history shows that inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 rarely serves as an independent driver of sustained outperformance.

Watch out for momentum traders
The anticipation of inclusion in a major index tends to amplify trading volume and expand valuation multiples as momentum traders and growth funds pile in ahead of the official rebalancing date. Let's take a look at what happened with the share prices of some companies that joined the Nasdaq-100 in recent years.
Peloton Interactive was added to the Nasdaq-100 in December 2020. Leading up to its inclusion in the index, Peloton saw its shares surge nearly 400% as the COVID-19 pandemic supercharged demand for at-home fitness equipment. Shortly after joining the index, Peloton reached an all-time price of $167. But within about 13 months, Peloton had been removed from the Nasdaq-100 and the stock had fallen roughly 83% from its peak as pandemic tailwinds faded.
Also in 2020, Okta experienced meaningful appreciation in its share price as demand for cloud-based identity and access management solutions surged amid the rapid shift to remote work. By early 2021, Okta stock had climbed to an all-time high shortly after its inclusion in the Nasdaq-100. In a post-pandemic world, however, Okta's growth rates have normalized substantially. As a result, the stock has been stuck in a prolonged period of sideways trading for years now.
In December 2024, Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, joined the Nasdaq-100. During this calendar year, the stock gained 358%, driven primarily by the company's high-profile Bitcoin treasury strategy. After peaking near the time of its late-2024 addition to the index, Strategy stock declined 68% by the end of 2025 amid shifting sentiment toward crypto proxies and Bitcoin's volatile price action.
Palantir Technologies also joined the Nasdaq-100 in December 2024. During that year, the artificial intelligence (AI) analytics darling posted a 340% return. Palantir stock continued to rally through much of 2025, supported by its strong business fundamentals. However, by mid-2026, shares have pulled back sharply from their late 2025 highs -- illustrating how even fundamentally sound companies will experience volatility once an initial wave of buying subsides.
Axon Enterprise also posted robust gains throughout 2024 as law enforcement and public safety agencies adopted its AI-enhanced hardware platform. After joining the index in December 2024, Axon -- like Palantir -- maintained upward share price momentum during 2025, yet has experienced notable pullbacks from its peaks this year.
The common thread across these examples is that temporary inflows provide a one-time lift rather than a permanent valuation floor. A company's subsequent performance hinges on whether the underlying business consistently delivers impressive execution and guidance once the spotlight of index membership moves elsewhere.
What will happen to SpaceX stock after joining the Nasdaq-100?
Just like the companies explored above, SpaceX enters the Nasdaq-100 riding pre-inclusion momentum. This is driven by a combination of enthusiasm among retail investors and mechanical buying by exchange-traded funds. I would not be surprised to see SpaceX stock exhibit some near-term support -- possibly pushing it back toward its highs.
Smart investors understand that this excitement does not alter the need for the company to prove durable progress over the coming quarters, though. Starlink subscriber growth, launch cadence, and an emerging AI infrastructure business must converge to demonstrate a path to sustained profitability. These factors will ultimately determine whether SpaceX's current valuation can be maintained or expanded.
Should SpaceX's quarterly updates fall short of the market's already elevated expectations, the stock could easily face profit-taking and trade at a materially lower price one year from now. This is consistent with the pattern observed in several Nasdaq-100 additions in recent history.
While index membership supports liquidity and credibility, it should be seen as a reflection of past achievements rather than a guarantee of strong future results. Investors evaluating SpaceX stock would be wise to focus on the company's operational milestones and cash-flow trajectory rather than the temporary tailwind of index-driven capital inflows. All told, a stock's record after inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 is quite mixed and frequently disappointing for investors expecting continued multibagger gains.

Additionally, Peloton's net debt declined 70% year over year. Investors appreciate the business operating from a sounder financial position.
However, Peloton has yet to prove that it can register durable growth, the key argument supporting the bear case. Revenue is projected to fall 2.3% in fiscal 2026, according to consensus analyst estimates. This would mark the fifth consecutive year of a decline.
The business continues to look like a one-hit COVID-era wonder that's struggling mightily to drive higher sales. Its connected fitness subscriber base also keeps shrinking, demonstrating waning interest among consumers.
Shares have been on a hot streak over the past three months. Investors should still avoid trying to ride the momentum.

After Skyrocketing 34% in 3 Months, Has Peloton Finally Turned the Corner?

Peloton just posted its strongest revenue growth since late 2021, and it's now profitable. Stop laughing. Start paying attention.
Low price points typically indicate high risks, but also, sometimes, great potential. I want to dive into a few stocks with single-digit prices that I think can move higher this year.
I think Opendoor Technologies (NASDAQ: OPEN), Grab Holdings (NASDAQ: GRAB), and Peloton Interactive (NASDAQ: PTON) can beat the market in 2026.

1. Opendoor
Flipping homes has been more likely to flip you over in recent years. Opendoor's prospects are feeling the pinch from the lack of inventory on the market, high mortgage rates that are keeping homeowners locked into their existing digs at lower financing costs, and younger Americans who are turning to rentals as annual home sales hover near 30-year lows.
Revenue is declining sharply for the fourth consecutive year. How bad have things been? Trailing revenue of $3.8 billion is 75% below the 2022 peak. And it's not just the top line getting slammed by a wrecking ball: Opendoor stock has plummeted 89% since peaking five years ago. This may not seem like much of a housewarming party for potential investors, but bear with me -- if you want to bull with me.
The shakeout was brutal. The country's two largest real estate portals backed out of the e-buying market entirely a couple of years ago, but that's actually good news. Opendoor will have fewer rivals with deep pockets to bid against when the inevitable turnaround happens.
Opendoor has also been ramping up its property acquisitions. It expects revenue to rise 25% sequentially in the current quarter, which ends later this month. Just 10% of its inventory at the end of March had been on the market for more than 120 days, compared with a third of the total homes on the market.
Perhaps even more importantly, losses -- even on an adjusted basis -- have been par for the course since Opendoor went public in 2020. Operating improvements and the first whiffs of a recovery find Opendoor modeling positive adjusted forward earnings by the end of this year. This is what opportunity knocking sounds like.
2. Grab Holdings
Singapore's Grab Holdings is not a name stateside consumers know, but the regional superapp developer is a force in several Southeast Asian markets. The platform, which initially started as a ride-hailing service, has evolved over time to offer deliveries and financial services, including digital payments and loans.
Grab serves 51.6 million monthly transacting users, 16% more than its sticky audience a year earlier. Revenue rose by a better-than-expected 24% in the first quarter, which it reported last month (or 21% on a currency-adjusted basis). That's Grab's strongest top-line gain in two years. Its bottom line rose even faster.
Despite its improving fundamentals, Grab's stock has been cut nearly in half since peaking in the fall. Even if fuel surcharges eat into demand, what's the alternative in this global environment of rising costs? The stock is trading for 24 times next year's analyst profit target, a fair price to pay for a company growing revenue north of 20%, with earnings growing even faster.
3. Peloton
It might seem odd to close out this list with Peloton Interactive (NASDAQ: PTON), but maybe it's just its stationary bikes that aren't going anywhere. Yes, Peloton peaked in the early months of the pandemic. Gyms were closed, and Peloton offered a safe home-based proxy for those with the means to spring for its bikes and treadmills. Revenue has declined in the past four fiscal years, and that streak will probably stretch to five after fiscal 2026 wraps up at the end of this month.
An interesting financial footnote is that revenue rose 1% in the fiscal third quarter that ended in March. That might sound sad, but it's Peloton's strongest growth since late 2021.
Peloton is no longer a punchline. The shares are up 58% since bottoming out three months ago. It's still not too late to take a chance on this potential turnaround play. Its market cap is essentially the $2.4 billion it generated in trailing revenue. Peloton turned profitable in fiscal 2025, and now it's building on that. It's trading for 21 times what Wall Street pros expect it to earn in the new fiscal year that starts next month. Turns out there's nothing stationary about this bike.

3 Stocks Under $10 to Buy Hand Over Fist in June

May was an eventful month for exercise equipment and services specialist Peloton Interactive (NASDAQ: PTON). The company's stock, beaten down considerably on declines in its all-important subscriber count and a clutch of bottom-line losses, staged a comeback in May. It rose by more than 17% that month, on the back of a flip into profitability in its latest quarter, and other positive factors such as its inclusion on an important stock index.
Shaping up?
The first major newsworthy event in May for Peloton was the release of its fiscal third-quarter 2026 figures. For the period, the company boosted revenue by 1% year over year to $631 million. Net income under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) came in at over $26 million ($0.06 per share), quite a dramatic change from the year-ago loss of nearly $48 million.

That meant a mixed quarter for Peloton, as it handily beat the consensus analyst estimate of just under $619 million. It barely missed on the bottom line; meanwhile, as those pundits were collectively predicting GAAP net income of $0.07 per share.
The news behind the numbers was mixed, too. Yes, the company managed to improve its revenue (if modestly) and land convincingly in the black on the bottom line. It also slightly raised the low end of its full-year revenue guidance range to $2.42 billion from $2.4 billion (the high end remains $2.44 billion). However, its count of connected fitness subscriptions fell again, by nearly 8% to 2.66 million.
Several analysts tweaked their takes on Peloton after earnings were released, and they were clearly more impressed by the positives than discouraged by the negatives. Influential investment bank Goldman Sachs added $1 to its price target on the stock, to $8, and maintained its buy recommendation. Later in the month, big bank Citigroup made a similar move, pushing its price target to $6 per share from $5. It kept its neutral rating intact.
Indexed
On May 21, Peloton was tapped to become a component stock of the S&P SmallCap 600 index, replacing Enviri, effective May 27. That helped to give Peloton a late-in-the-month lift, not least because getting included in such a lineup makes a stock a good target for the many index funds that trawl the market looking for portfolio candidates.
Aping its more successful users, Peloton as a company has slimmed down and become a leaner operation, which is one reason its bottom line looked so much better in the third quarter. If I were an investor, though, I'd be concerned about the continued erosion of subscriptions, since that indicates not every aspect of its business is in prime shape. Given that, I wouldn't be buying this stock now.

Why Peloton Stock Zoomed More Than 17% Higher Last Month

Peloton Interactive (NASDAQ: PTON) has taken its investors on a bumpy ride. Shares are currently down 2% this year (as of June 3), lagging the overall market. However, in the past three months, they have soared 55%.
Maybe this is a sign of a rejuvenated business with much better prospects. Or it could simply be nothing more than an empty improvement in market sentiment.

Is this consumer discretionary stock a once-in-a-lifetime buying opportunity?
The latest fiscal quarter was encouraging
Peloton's most recent fiscal quarter (Q3 2026 ended March 31) provided investors with reasons to be a bit more optimistic than in recent years. The once-booming fitness innovator, which has been challenged in the post-pandemic environment, reported year-over-year revenue growth of 1%, supported by better-than-expected equipment sales.
This was the first fiscal quarter of a sales gain since the fourth quarter of fiscal 2024. Before that, it was a troubling streak of revenue declines since Q2 2022, when the top line was up 6.5%.
One trend hasn't changed. The number of connected fitness subscribers, which are customers who own equipment and pay the monthly membership fee, totaled under 2.7 million as of March 31. This figure was essentially the same as three months earlier, but 8% lower than 12 months earlier.
The company has cleaned up its financial position, which the market seems to be bullish about, considering the stock's recent performance. It has cut costs and reduced its debt balance. Peloton generated positive net income of $26 million in Q3, up from a $48 million net loss in the year-ago period. And it produced free cash flow of $150 million.
Investors should still exercise caution
Based on historical trends, the April-through-June quarter has typically been a seasonally weaker period for the business, which makes sense. People are spending more time outdoors, reducing their need for effective indoor workout options.
The top line might have expanded last quarter. But management expects revenue for the entire fiscal year to decline 2%.
Analyst estimates aren't encouraging. Between fiscal 2025 and fiscal 2028, the sell-side community believes Peloton's revenue will fall at a compound annual rate of 0.6%.
While the company deserves credit for revolutionizing the digital fitness experience, it has hit a wall. Until revenue starts to rise consistently at a solid clip, with ongoing subscriber additions setting a new normal, this is far from being a once-in-a-lifetime buying opportunity.
This is my perspective, even though the stock currently trades 96% below its peak and at a low price-to-sales ratio of 1.1.

Peleton's (PTON) Chief Commercial Officer Sold All Their Shares for $584,000

Peloton Interactive (NASDAQ:PTON), a connected fitness products and services provider, closed Tuesday at $5.77, up 1.05%. The stock moved following the announcement of Sid Thacker as its new Chief Financial Officer. Investors are watching how leadership changes support its ongoing profitability gains. Trading volume reached 65.8 million shares, about 364% above its three-month average of 14.2 million shares. Peloton Interactive IPO'd in 2019 and has fallen 78% since going public.
How the markets moved today
The S&P 500 added 0.62% to finish Tuesday at 7,519, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.19% to close at 26,656. In the leisure space, industry peer Yeti closed at $46.05, up 1.36%, as investors compare branded consumer demand trends across discretionary names.
What this means for investors
While the market didn’t seem to have a major reaction to Sid Thacker joining Peloton as the company’s new CFO, it could prove to be a promising move for investors. Thacker was previously the CFO at Rent the Runway for the last three years and “reset the company's balance sheet and drove a return to top-line revenue and subscriber growth.”
This ties in perfectly with the cost restructuring and streamlining taking place at Peloton. The company recently reached break-even profitability and recorded its first-quarter revenue growth since early 2022. Thacker flipped RENT stock’s net income positive in a relatively short time there, so Peloton should be in good financial hands with this announcement. One note for interested investors: PTON’s share count has climbed 7% annually since 2023, however.

Stock Market Today, May 26: Peloton Inches Higher After Naming Sid Thacker as Chief Financial Officer

(RTTNews) - Peloton Interactive, Inc. (PTON), a provider of fitness and wellness products and services, announced Tuesday the appointment of Siddharth Thacker as Chief Financial Officer, effective June 22.
Thacker will oversee the company's global finance organization and corporate strategy.
Thacker joins Peloton from Rent the Runway, Inc. (RENT), where he served as CFO for three years.
Peloton said Thacker will support the company's plans to drive sustainable and profitable revenue growth.
The company said that Thacker will report to Chief Executive Officer Peter Stern and will be based at the company's New York headquarters.
Thacker will take over from interim Chief Financial Officer Saqib Baig, who will remain chief accounting officer.
On February 5, the company announced on February 5 that Chief Financial Officer Liz Coddington would leave the company to pursue an opportunity outside the industry.
Coddington remained with the company through March, after which Chief Accounting Officer Saqib Baig served as interim chief financial officer.
In the pre-market trading, Peloton Interactive is 0.17% lesser at $5.70 on the Nasdaq.

Peloton Interactive Appoints Siddharth Thacker As CFO

Einhorn is known for investing in undervalued and out-of-favor stocks, so his foray into the consumer space is perhaps no surprise.

Let's look at the four consumer stocks he was buying earlier this year.
1. Victoria's Secret
Einhorn increased his position in Victoria's Secret (NYSE: VSCO) by 30% in Q1, making it his eighth-largest position.
He talked about the stock at the recent Sohn conference, noting how new management is returning the retailer to its identity, which is starting to resonate with customers and has stabilized traffic. He noted that the company's margins are only about half of historical levels, so he sees a strong runway of growth ahead.
With the stock trading at a forward P/E of 12.5 times 2026 analyst estimates, it doesn't look like investors have fully bought into the company's turnaround. However, it's seeing solid same-store sales growth and strong international growth, so the setup does look like it is there.
2. Crocs
One of Einhorn's new positions was in Crocs (NASDAQ: CROX). The company's namesake brand has had pretty steady sales, led by international growth. However, its HeyDude brand has been a disaster ever since it acquired it in 2022, and the company is still working to clear up inventory issues.
With a forward P/E of just 7, Crocs stock is in the deep bargain bin. The big opportunity for the company is finally stabilizing HeyDude, which it looks closer to accomplishing. Direct-to-consumer sales for the brand were up 8% last quarter, and it upped the brand's full-year sales forecast to a decline of 5% to 7%, up from prior guidance of a 7% to 9% decrease.
If Crocs can turn around HeyDude, the stock should have a lot of potential upside given its low valuation.
3. Deckers Outdoor
Crocs wasn't the only footwear company that Einhorn was buying in Q1; he increased his stake in Deckers Outdoor (NYSE: DECK) by more than 60%.
The stock has struggled after surging to more than $215 in January 2025, as investors worried that the popularity of its Ugg brand would start to wane and that its Hoka brand was about to run out of steam.
The company's two main brands have continued to generate strong revenue growth, although not at the breakneck pace they had been seeing earlier. Nonetheless, this is still a company with a solid history of driving both revenue and profitability growth. With the stock trading at a forward P/E of 13 times, it looks like a potential bargain buy.
4. Peloton
One of the more interesting buys that Ackman made was Peloton Interactive (NASDAQ: PTON), increasing his holdings by more than 4,000%. At only 1.4% of his portfolio, it's still a small position, but the increase in shares is still noteworthy.
Peloton ran into huge issues coming out of the pandemic, as it mistook a surge in demand due to people being stuck at home for a new baseline of demand for its exercise bikes. This led to the company over-ordering and storing large equipment, which caused its gross margin to nosedive and even turn negative one quarter.
While Peloton has continued to struggle with revenue growth, seeing declines for the past four years, it has greatly expanded its gross margin during this period. In fact, the gross margin is now higher than it was before the pandemic. Meanwhile, the company is looking toward the commercial gym market for growth following its acquisition of Precor, with a new commercial series of products set to ship late this year. Peloton's also partnered with Spotify to allow the music streamer's premium subscribers to take on-demand workout classes.
Peloton stock is down 95% over the past five years, but the company has made some nice strides over the past few years to better position itself for the future. If it can start growing revenue again, the stock could have big upside given its improved gross margin.
