Stocks initially moved higher today when WTI crude oil gave up overnight gains and fell more than -2% after the US granted a temporary waiver allowing buyers to take Russian oil cargoes already at sea. The US Treasury granted a month-long waiver to import Russian oil loaded before Thursday, covering Russian crude oil and fuel on about 30 tankers carrying at least 19 million barrels. Crude was also briefly pressured after the Financial Times reported that France and Italy had opened talks with Iran to negotiate a deal to guarantee the safe passage of their ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Crude prices rallied in overnight trading after US officials said Iran has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, an effort that could further complicate US efforts to restart shipping in the waterway. Despite the US destroying most large ships in the Iranian navy used to lay mines, Iran began using smaller boats for the operation on Thursday, according to a US official briefed on the intelligence. Goldman Sachs warns that crude prices could exceed the 2008 record high of close to $150 a barrel if flows through the Strait of Hormuz remain depressed through March.
The latest rhetoric from President Trump and Iranian leader Khamenei suggests there will be no immediate easing in the war that has disrupted energy shipments in the Middle East and spurred concerns about rising inflation. Global bond yields have soared this week on inflation fears, with the German 10-year bund yield rising to a 2.25-year high of 2.99% today and the 10-year T--note yield climbing to a 5-week high at 4.28%.
Crude oil prices remain underpinned despite attempts to boost global supplies. The IEA on Wednesday released 400 million barrels from emergency oil stockpiles and said the war against Iran is disrupting 7.5% of global oil supply, and the conflict will cut global oil supply by 8 million bpd this month. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas flows, has choked off oil and gas flows due to Iran’s attacks on shipping in the waterway and forced Gulf producers to cut output because they can’t export from the region.
Today’s US economic news is mixed for stocks. Jan personal spending, Jan JOLTS job openings, and the University of Michigan US Mar consumer sentiment index all rose more than expected. However, Jan capital goods new orders nondefense ex-aircraft and parts, a proxy for capital spending, were weaker than expected. Also, Q4 GDP was revised lower, and the Jan core PCE price index, the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, rose by the most in 1.75 years.
US Jan personal spending rose +0.4% m/m, stronger than expectations of +0.3% m/m. Jan personal income rose +0.4% m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.5% m/m.
The US Jan core PCE price index, the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, rose +3.1% y/y, right on expectations and the highest in 1.75 years.
US Jan capital goods new orders nondefense ex-aircraft and parts were unchanged m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.5% m/m.
US Q4 GDP was revised downward to +0.7% (q/q annualized) from the previously reported +1.4% as Q4 personal consumption was revised lower to +2.0% from the previously reported +2.4%.
The University of Michigan US consumer sentiment index fell -1.1 to 55.5, stronger than the 54.8 expected.
The University of Michigan's US Mar 1-year inflation expectations were unchanged from Feb at 3.4%, below expectations of a rise to 3.7%. The Mar 5-10 year inflation expectations unexpectedly fell to 3.2% from 3.3% in Feb, weaker than expectations of an increase to 3.4%.
US Jan JOLTS job openings rose +396,000 to 6.946 million, stronger than expectations of 6.750 million.
Q4 earnings season is nearly over, with more than 98% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 74% of the 495 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 1% chance for a -25 bp FOMC rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets are mixed. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up +0.24%. China's Shanghai Composite closed down -0.82%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -1.16%.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) today are up by +3 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is down -0.6 bp to 4.255%. June T-notes are slightly higher today, and the 10-year T-note yield fell from a 5-week high of 4.279%. Today’s US economic news, which showed Q4 GDP revised lower and Jan capital goods new orders climbing less than expected, was supportive of T-notes. Gains in T-notes were limited after Jan JOLTS job openings, and the University of Michigan Mar consumer sentiment index rose more than expected, hawkish factors for Fed policy. Also, a rebound in crude oil prices from early losses to higher on the day weighed on T-note prices.
European government bond yields are mixed today. The 10-year German bund yield fell from a 2.25-year high of 2.992% and is down -0.4 bp to 2.953%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose to a 6.25-month high of 4.812% and is up +0.9 bp to 4.782%.
UK Jan GDP was unchanged m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.2% m/m.
UK Jan manufacturing production rose +0.1% m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.2% m/m.
Swaps are discounting a 3% chance of a -25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
Chip stocks and AI-infrastructure companies are moving higher today, a supportive factor for the broader market. Micron Technology (MU) is up more than +4%, and Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX), Lam Research (LRCX), and Western Digital (WDC) are up more than +2%. Also, Applied Materials (AMAT), Marvell Technology (MRVL), ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), Intel (INTC), and KLA Corp (KLAC) are up more than +1%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks are climbing today, with Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) up more than +4% at a 1-week high. MARA Holdings (MARA) is up more than +12%, and Strategy (MSTR) is up more than +6% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100. Also, Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) is up more than +6%, and Riot Platforms (RIOT) and Coinbase Global (COIN) are up more than +3%.
Fertilizer stocks are retreating today, giving back some of this week’s sharp gains. Intrepid Potash (IPI) is down more than -7%, CF Industries Holdings (CF) is down more than -6%, and Mosaic (MOS) is down more than -4%.
Klarna Group Plc (KLAR) is up more than +12% after an SEC filing showed Chairman Morits purchased 3.47 million shares through an associated entity between March 3 and March 11.
Charles Schwab (SCHW) is up more than +2% after it expects revenue growth of 16% in Q1 and said the company’s “diversified financial model continues to deliver.”
Circle Internet Group (CRCL) is up more than +1% after Mizuho Securities raised its price target on the stock to $120 from $100.
Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings (KNX) is up more than +1% after Citigroup upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $64.
Air Products and Chemicals (APD) is up more than +1% after Wells Fargo Securities upgraded the stock to overweight from equal weight with a price target of $325.
Ulta Beauty (ULTA) is down more than -11% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after it forecast full-year comparable sales will increase 2.5% to 3.5%, below the consensus of 3.5%.
EverCommerce (EVCM) is down more than -10% after forecasting Q1 revenue of $145.5 million to $148.5 million, well below the consensus of $151 million.

Stocks Erase Early Gains on Iran War Anxiety

Major hyperscalers in the U.S., such as Alphabet, Amazon, Meta Platforms, and Microsoft alone are anticipated to spend $650 billion in AI infrastructure this year. That would be a major increase over last year's outlay of $410 billion. However, these aren't the only companies spending hundreds of billions of dollars on AI data centers. This is great news for Marvell Technology (NASDAQ: MRVL), a company that designs custom AI processors and networking chips. In fact, it won't be surprising to see Marvell turning an investment of $10,000 into $15,000 by the end of the year. Let's look at the reasons why.
Marvell Technology is clocking outstanding growth thanks to AI
Marvell released fiscal 2026 fourth-quarter results (for the three months ended Jan. 31, 2026) on March 5. The company posted a terrific 42% increase in fiscal 2026 revenue to $8.2 billion. Non-GAAP earnings surged by 81% last year to $2.84 per share.
This growth was fueled by Marvell's data center business, which grew by 46% last year and exceeded $6 billion. The company saw outstanding demand for its data center interconnect, switching, storage, and custom chips used in data centers. Specifically, its custom processor revenue doubled last year, which isn't surprising as hyperscalers have been turning to these chips to run AI workloads in the cloud.
Bloomberg points out that Marvell designs custom AI processors for the likes of Amazon and Microsoft. The company is expected to command 20% to 25% of the custom AI processor market in the long run, which would be a significant improvement over its share of less than 5% in 2023. Marvell plans to achieve this impressive market share increase by landing more business from the top four U.S. hyperscalers. It also aims to get more business from emerging cloud infrastructure companies.
Marvell management remarked on the latest earnings call that it expects a 40% spike in data center revenue in fiscal 2027, while overall revenue is anticipated to grow by 34% to $11 billion. What's more, Marvell believes that it can achieve $15 billion in revenue in the next fiscal year, driven by more than 20 chip designs that will go into production over the next couple of years.
Clearly, Marvell is poised to make the most of the AI-focused application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) market, which is anticipated to witness a 3x increase in shipments between 2024 and 2027, according to Counterpoint Research. The good news for investors is that analysts have become more bullish about Marvell's growth prospects following its latest quarterly report.
Throw in the company's attractive valuation, and it won't be surprising to see it deliver solid gains to investors in 2026 and beyond.
Why the stock seems primed for a 50% jump in 2026
Let's say you have $10,000 in investible cash right now after paying your bills, saving enough for difficult times, and clearing high-interest loans, and you want to add a growth stock to your portfolio with that money. Buying Marvell as part of a diversified portfolio could be a smart move.

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Thursday closed down -1.52%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) closed down -1.56%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed down -1.73%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) fell -1.49%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) fell -1.75%.
Stocks fell sharply on Thursday as a surge in crude oil prices stoked fears that the war against Iran would crimp global fuel supplies and boost inflation. WTI crude oil prices soared more than +9% on Thursday amid widening disruptions to crude production and transport in the Middle East.

Stocks extended their losses on Thursday, and crude prices added to their gains on comments from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who said that Iran’s leverage of closing the Strait of Hormuz should be used, and attacks on Gulf Arab neighbors will continue. He added that Iran will open unspecified “other fronts” in the war if the US and Israel persist with their attacks. Also, comments from President Trump gave crude prices a boost when he said that preventing Iran from having nuclear weapons is "of far greater interest and importance" to him than the cost of oil, a sign that the war in the Middle East isn't close to a de-escalation.
Credit concerns weighed on bank stocks and asset managers on Thursday after Morgan Stanley and Cliffwater LLC capped withdrawals from their private credit funds amid investor demand to redeem more than the funds allow. Private credit funds are grappling with a wave of redemption requests amid growing concerns over the quality of their loans. BlackRock last week decided to limit withdrawals, a move that other asset managers have since followed.
Crude oil prices rallied sharply on Thursday despite the IEA members' decision on Wednesday to release 400 million barrels from emergency oil stockpiles. The IEA said the war against Iran is disrupting 7.5% of global oil supply, and the conflict will cut global oil supply by 8 million bpd this month. Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country would need “firm international guarantees against future aggression” to accept a ceasefire as well as reparations. However, comments from President Trump late Wednesday suggest the conflict could continue for weeks when he said that it would be unwise for the US to wind down hostilities too soon.
US economic news on Thursday was mixed for stocks after weekly jobless claims rose less than expected, a sign of labor market strength. Also, Jan housing starts unexpectedly rose to an 11-month high, but Jan building permits fell to a 5-month low.
US weekly initial unemployment claims fell -1,000 to 213,000, showing a stronger labor market than expectations of an increase to 215,000.
US Jan housing starts unexpectedly rose +7.2% m/m to an 11-month high of 1.487 million, stronger than expectations of a decline to 1.341 million. Jan building permits, a proxy for future construction, fell -5.4% m/m to a 5-month low of 1.376 million, weaker than expectations of 1.410 million.
The US Jan trade deficit shrank to -$54.5 billion, narrower than expectations of -$66.0 billion.

June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) on Thursday closed down by -18.5 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield rose +3.9 bp to 4.269%. June T-notes fell to a 5-week low on Thursday, and the 10-year T-note yield climbed to a 5-week high of 4.275%. Thursday’s +9% rally in oil prices raised inflation expectations and undercut T-note prices. Also, concerns that the cost of the ongoing war against Iran will boost the US budget deficit are bearish for T-notes. On the positive side for T-notes on Thursday was strong demand for the Treasury’s $22 billion auction of 30-year T-bonds that had a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.45, above the 10-auction average of 2.39.
European government bond yields moved higher on Thursday. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 2.25-year high of 2.962% and finished up +2.5 bp to 2.957%. The 10-year UK gilt yield climbed to a 6.25-month high of 4.800% and finished up +8.7 bp to 4.773%.
The European Union's economy chief, Valdis Dombrovskis, said the inflation rate could surpass 3% this year, and GDP in the Eurozone could be as much as -0.4 points lower if the war in the Middle East causes crude oil prices to remain around $100 per barrel and gas prices stay elevated for an extended period.
Swaps are discounting a 3% chance of a -25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
Airline stocks and cruise line operators sold off on Thursday amid a 9% surge in crude oil prices, which are boosting companies’ fuel costs and threatening earnings. Carnival (CCL) and Southwest Airlines (LUV) closed down more than -7%, and Alaska Air Group (ALK) and Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL) closed down more than -6%. Also, United Airlines Holdings (UAL), Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH), and American Airlines Group (AAL) closed down more than -4%. In addition, Delta Airlines (DAL) closed down more than -2%.
Chip stocks retreated on Thursday, weighing on the broader market. Intel (INTC) closed down more than -5%, and Lam Research (LRCX), ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), Microchip Technology (MCHP), and Texas Instruments (TXN) closed down more than -4%. Credit concerns weighed on bank stocks and asset managers on Thursday after Morgan Stanley and Cliffwater LLC capped withdrawals from their private credit funds amid investor demand to redeem more than the funds allow. Ares Management (ARES) closed down more than -6%, and
Goldman Sachs (GS) closed down more than -4% to lead losers in the Dow Jones Industrials. Also, Morgan Stanley (MS), KKR & Co (KKR), and Citigroup (C) closed down more than -3%.
The Magnificent Seven technology stocks fell on Thursday, pressuring the broader market. Tesla (TSLA) closed down more than -3%, and Meta Platforms (META) closed down more than -2%. Also, Alphabet (GOOGL), Apple (AAPL), Amazon.com (AMZN), and Nvidia (NVDA) closed down more than -1%, and Microsoft (MSFT) closed down -0.73%.
Fertilizer stocks rallied on Thursday amid supply disruptions from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. CF Industries Holdings (CF) closed up more than +13% to lead gainers in the S&P 500. Also, Intrepid Potash (IPI) closed up more than +10%, and Mosaic (MOS) closed up more than +7%.
Energy producers and service providers rose on Thursday after crude prices jumped more than +9%. ConocoPhillips (COP), Chevron (CVX), Phillips 66 (PSX), and Valero Energy (VLO) closed up more than -2%. Also, APA Corp (APA), Devon Energy (DVN), Exxon Mobil (XOM), and Marathon Petroleum (MPC) closed up more than +1%.
Netskope (NTSK) closed down more than -21% after forecasting a Q1 adjusted net loss per share of -6 cents to -7 cents, wider than Q4’s -4 cent EPS loss.
G-III Apparel Group Ltd (GIII) closed down more than -11% after reporting Q4 net sales of $771.5 million, below the consensus of $791.8 million.
UiPath (PATH) closed down more than -7% after reporting Q4 subscription revenue of $251.2 million, below the consensus of $252.1 million.
Dollar General (DG) closed down more than -6% after giving an underwhelming 2027 comparable sales forecast of up +2.2% to +2.7%, the midpoint right on the consensus of +2.45%.
GlobalFoundries (GFS) closed down more than -5% after a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Co. was said to sell as much as $852 million of its stake in the stock overnight at $41.60 to $42.60 per share.
MercadoLibre (MELI) closed down more than -4% after JPMorgan Chase downgraded the stock to neutral from overweight.
LyondellBasell Industries NV (LYB) closed up more than +10% after Citigroup upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $76.
Dow Inc. (DOW) closed up more than +9% after Citigroup upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $40.
Occidental Petroleum (OXY) closed up more than +5% after Wells Fargo Securities double upgraded the stock to overweight from underweight with a price target of $69.

Meanwhile, its 2025 revenue of $12.4 billion was down from $13.1 billion in 2024. This combination of rising expenses and falling sales does not bode well for Lumen’s future. Consequently, now is not a good time to buy shares, nor is it an ideal moment to sell with the stock down 12% year to date through March 10. Instead, watch the company’s performance over the next few quarters before making an investment decision.

iShares U.S. Thematic Rotation Active ETF -- Insider Buying Index Registering 18.6%

Credo Technology Group CRDO has introduced ZeroFlap optics, a new generation of optical transceivers designed to improve stability in large-scale AI networks. Recently, Credo reported fiscal third-quarter revenue of $407 million, representing 201.5% year-over-year growth, fueled by strong adoption of its high-speed connectivity solutions, particularly in AI and hyperscale data center deployments.
ZeroFlap optics represents Credo’s next step into optical connectivity technologies. ZeroFlap AECs deliver as much as 1,000x the reliability of commodity laser-based optics while requiring roughly half the power. Management noted that ZeroFlap Optics is ahead of schedule, with production shipments to Tensor Way and ongoing qualification with three more hyperscaler and Neocloud customers.
Data centers currently face long cluster startup times and reliability problems caused by unstable links in standard laser-based transceivers. ZeroFlap optics are built to solve these issues by combining hardware, optics, firmware and pilot software with switch-level SDKs. This setup allows for ongoing link telemetry and automatic detection and correction of potential link failures before they affect clusters, greatly enhancing network reliability. From a total addressable market perspective, these can provide optical connectivity across all distances within data centers. Strong customer interest is expected to lead to a major production increase starting in the first quarter of fiscal 2027 and continuing throughout the year.
In the long run, as AI infrastructure scales toward 800G and 1.6T networks, ZeroFlap could become a meaningful growth engine, potentially positioning Credo as a key supplier of reliable optical connectivity for the next generation of AI data centers. With management projecting more than 50% revenue growth for fiscal 2027, its adoption could become a major catalyst behind this strong outlook. However, CRDO operates in a highly competitive market that includes major semiconductor players, such as Marvell Technology MRVL and Broadcom Inc. AVGO.
CRDO’s Competitive Connectivity Landscape
Broadcom is experiencing strong momentum fueled by growth in AI semiconductors and continued success with its VMware integration. Strong demand for its networking products and custom AI accelerators (XPUs) bodes well. AVGO’s AI networking solutions are gaining traction. In the first quarter of fiscal 2026, AI networking revenues jumped 60% year over year and represented one-third of total AI revenues. For the fiscal second quarter, AI networking is expected to accelerate further and grow to 40% of total AI revenues. AVGO expects OpenAI to deploy the first-generation XPU in 2027 at more than one gigawatt of compute capacity.
Marvell is experiencing solid growth across its core franchises and AI infrastructure segments, including scale-out and scale-across deployments, while investing to unlock new revenue streams in the emerging AI scale-up market. It is capitalizing on the rising demand for high-speed connectivity, such as 800G and 1.6T optical interconnects. These solutions are gaining traction as AI workloads require faster communication between GPUs and data centers. Based on the current growth trend, MRVL predicts that its interconnect business will grow more than 50% in fiscal 2027. Management pointed to broader customer traction, accelerating bookings and improved visibility into future growth.

Marvell Stock Investors Got Amazing News From Its CEO

In early trading on Monday, shares of Strategy topped the list of the day's best performing components of the Nasdaq 100 index, trading up 3.4%. Year to date, Strategy has lost about 9.2% of its value.
And the worst performing Nasdaq 100 component thus far on the day is Marvell Technology, trading down 5.3%. Marvell Technology is lower by about 0.2% looking at the year to date performance.
Two other components making moves today are Old Dominion Freight Line, trading down 4.5%, and Applovin, trading up 1.8% on the day.

Silicon Motion Technology Corporation SIMO is set to introduce its latest AI-optimized boot storage and enterprise SSD controller solutions at Embedded World 2026, strengthening its presence in high-performance storage for industrial systems, automotive technology and AI data centers.
Silicon Motion’s Ferri embedded storage portfolio is designed to deliver reliable boot performance for AI-driven systems. The lineup includes FerriSSD, a compact PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe boot drive that provides stable power, strong data protection and consistent startup performance. These capabilities support operating system loading, firmware initialization and continuous logging in industrial systems and AI data centers. The company has already begun shipping the solution to several major AI ecosystem partners.
The portfolio also includes Ferri-UFS (UFS 3.1) and Ferri-eMMC (eMMC 5.1), which offer power-efficient embedded storage for compact and reliability-focused devices. All Ferri products use the company’s IntelligentSeries technologies, including power-loss protection, encryption and advanced NAND management, to ensure reliable performance.
The company is also targeting the fast-growing automotive AI computing market, where reliable boot storage is important as vehicles adopt advanced systems, such as Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), infotainment, and domain controllers. The company’s automotive storage products meet industry standards, including AEC-Q100, IATF 16949, ISO 21434 and ISO 26262 ASIL B.
In addition to embedded storage, Silicon Motion will also introduce its MonTitan enterprise SSD controller family, including the SM8366 PCIe Gen5 controller, designed for GPU-accelerated environments and supporting high-performance AI workloads in near-GPU, nearline, and edge server deployments. These solutions highlight Silicon Motion’s focus on advancing storage technologies to support the growing needs of AI-driven infrastructure.
How Are Competitors Performing?
Silicon Motion faces competition from Marvell Technology, Inc. MRVL and Western Digital Corporation WDC. Marvell is expanding its enterprise storage solutions with high-performance SSD controllers and data-center chips designed for cloud and AI workloads. The company has developed Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) based storage technologies and controllers that improve performance, security, and efficiency in enterprise data centers. It has also introduced hardware solutions, such as NVMe RAID accelerators that support reliable OS boot storage for servers and cloud infrastructure.
Western Digital is strengthening its enterprise storage portfolio to support the growing demand from AI and cloud data centers. The company is developing higher-capacity storage solutions, including plans for hard drives with around 40 terabytes of capacity to handle large AI workloads. It also provides enterprise SSDs used in servers, offering reliable performance for data center operations and operating-system boot storage.
