While Microsoft has gained 4.7%, Amazon has rallied 7.1% over this period, driven by the rising adoption of enterprise capabilities of Azure OpenAI and Amazon Web Services.

Price Wars Hurt IBM Margin
IBM is facing competition from Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Increasing pricing pressure is eroding margins, and profitability has trended down over the years, barring occasional spikes. The company’s ongoing, heavily time-consuming business model transition to the cloud is challenging. Weaknesses in its traditional business and foreign exchange volatility remain significant concerns.
IBM is resorting to massive job cuts to reduce operating costs. A significant part of these jobs is slated to be shifted to India under a “resource action” plan, an ongoing corporate strategy to tap the vast talent pool of the subcontinent at lower operating costs. Although the company spokesperson has refused to comment on the grapevines and commit an exact figure for the layoffs, various unidentified sources have confirmed that the action has already started, impacting employees from consulting, corporate social responsibility, cloud infrastructure, sales and internal systems teams.
A majority of job losses have also been reported in the Human Resource department as IBM aims to integrate AI (artificial intelligence) into its operations, particularly in back-office functions.

Several millionaire-maker ingredients
CoreWeave appears to have several ingredients that other millionaire-maker stocks possess. Perhaps the most important one is that the company is targeting a hot market -- data centers that host artificial intelligence (AI) applications -- with tremendous growth prospects.
Top consulting firm McKinsey projects that global data center capacity could increase by a compound annual growth rate of 22% through 2030. CoreWeave isn't the only player in this market, of course. However, it enjoys a first-mover advantage in focusing exclusively on AI hyperscaling.
Another key ingredient for millionaire-maker stocks is exceptionally strong revenue growth. CoreWeave definitely checks off this box. The company's revenue skyrocketed 207% year over year in its latest quarter.
Like previous enormously successful companies, CoreWeave is doing all it can to capitalize on its growth opportunities. Co-founder and CEO Michael Intrator said in the company's second-quarter update, "We are scaling rapidly as we look to meet the unprecedented demand for AI."
The biggest long-term winners also often have huge partners. Again, CoreWeave fits the bill. For example, Nvidia has investments in only six other publicly traded companies; CoreWeave is one of them. It has also teamed up with IBM to train the technology pioneer's Granite AI models on Nvidia-powered supercomputers.
A few flies in the ointment
There are a few flies in the ointment that could prevent CoreWeave from becoming a millionaire-maker stock, though. One biggie is that competition is likely to increase significantly.
CoreWeave competes against some of the biggest cloud service providers, including Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) Web Services (AWS), Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Azure, and Alphabet's (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Google Cloud. These companies' financial strength could allow them to make the investments needed to partially erase CoreWeave's first-mover advantage in AI hyperscaling.
Notably, CoreWeave isn't profitable yet despite its rapid revenue growth. The company could find it difficult to keep pace with greater capital spending by its rival tech giants. But without investing in more infrastructure to meet customer demand, CoreWeave won't be able to keep its growth rate up.
Wall Street projects slowing (albeit still impressive) revenue growth for CoreWeave next year. If a trend of decelerating revenue growth continues, it will be much harder for an initial investment of $10,000 in CoreWeave to grow to $1 million.
What about valuation? CoreWeave's price-to-sales ratio is 12.4, well above the internet services and infrastructure industry average of 8.1. However, the company's sales growth makes this seemingly steep premium less concerning.
Steep odds
Can an investment of $10,000 in CoreWeave make you a millionaire? It's possible, but the odds are stacked decidedly against it happening. To turn $10,000 into $1 million, CoreWeave's share price would need to increase by 100x. Few stocks can achieve such a feat, even over a lengthy period.
Perhaps the best way for CoreWeave to be a millionaire-maker is for you to start with a higher initial investment. For example, buying $200,000 of the stock would make the path to $1 million a much easier climb.
Of course, you don't have to become a millionaire from investing in CoreWeave for the stock to still make you a lot of money. I think the chances of this scenario occurring over the long run are much better.

Today's biggest companies (as measured by market capitalization) should come as no surprise. From a massive market value of $4.2 trillion all the way down to a still-massive market cap of $2.4 trillion, here are the market's five biggest names right now, from biggest to smallest.
My how things have changed over the course of the past 40 years.
1985's biggest companies
There isn't absolute agreement on which companies qualify as 1985's biggest. Energy outfit ExxonMobil as we know it today didn't exist until Exxon merged with Mobil in 1999, for instance, while General Electric has since been carved up into several different industrial entities. It also seems like AT&T is missing from this list, but remember, the 1980s were an era of significant breakups and acquisitions in the telecom industry, including the breakup of Bell the year before. The AT&T of today isn't the same AT&T it was then.
Regardless, based on data provided by Goldman Sachs and the American Enterprise Institute, Visual Capitalist says these were the five biggest companies back in 1985, from biggest to smallest:
For perspective, IBM's market cap at that time was around $30 billion -- small by today's standards, but enormous for the day.

Microsoft MSFT is also advancing its “Quantum Safe” roadmap, aiming to embed post-quantum cryptography across its platforms by 2029-2033. Meanwhile, NVIDIA NVDA is expanding its hybrid-computing push by launching a large Quantum-AI research center to advance quantum-classical integration. This surge of attention by the bigwigs is drawing fresh investor focus toward the smaller players.

With customers spanning GE Vernova, Nikon, NTT, Sharp and Oxford University, D-Wave is proving annealing’s versatility.
Rigetti's Current Stance on Path to Quantum Edge
Rigetti is gaining market share based on its chiplet-based architecture as the foundation for scaling superconducting qubits. Cepheus-1-36Q, launched earlier this month, has been recognized as the industry’s largest multi-chip quantum computer. It is claimed to reduce error rates at a rapid pace, achieving a two times improvement in 2-qubit gate fidelity over its prior Ankaa-3 system in just six months. By leveraging chiplet technology from the semiconductor industry, Rigetti is moving beyond monolithic designs and gaining better manufacturing yields and consistency while proving that multi-chip scaling is both feasible and advantageous. The company is confident that this approach will enable the release of a 100+ qubit system with 99.5% median 2-qubit gate fidelity by year-end 2025, a milestone that would significantly advance the roadmap toward error correction and fault tolerance.
On the financial side, Rigetti strengthened its position with $350 million in at-the-market equity financing, ending the last-reported second quarter with $571.6 million in cash and no debt, providing the resources to support commercial scale-up. However, revenues were down year over year due to delays in U.S. government funding programs like the National Quantum Initiative. While gross margins fell to 31% and losses widened, management highlighted that technical milestones, not current revenues, are the core metric of long-term success.
Big Tech Momentum: Boon or Bane for QBTS and RGTI?
The growth of Big Tech in quantum computing is both good and bad for smaller companies like D-Wave and Rigetti. On the one hand, companies such as IBM, Microsoft and NVIDIA are investing billions into quantum hardware, software and security, raising the visibility of the whole sector and attracting fresh capital.
