IBM Teams Up With E.SUN Bank on AI Governance: Will it Fuel Revenue?

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Wednesday fell -0.08%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) fell -0.61%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) rose +0.03%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) fell -0.15%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) fell -0.07%.
Stocks were undercut by Wednesday’s +6 bp rise in the 10-year T-note yield and the +4.6% rally in WTI crude oil prices. Crude oil prices rallied despite the IEA members' decision to release 400 million barrels from emergency oil stockpiles.

Stocks saw downward pressure as the Iran war dragged on, with missiles hitting three vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf on Wednesday, and new missile volleys hitting Israel.
However, tech stocks received support from Oracle's positive AI news.
The oil market took in stride Wednesday’s decision by IEA members to release 400 million barrels of oil from strategic stockpiles, much larger than the 182 million-barrel release in 2022 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The release is designed to replace the oil lost due to the Strait of Hormuz shutdown and the subsequent production cuts by Persian Gulf oil producers, although it will take some time for the oil stockpiles to reach the market.
Stocks showed little net reaction to the CPI report, which was in line with market expectations. The Feb CPI rose +0.3% m/m and +2.4% y/y, while the Feb core CPI rose +0.2% m/m and +2.5% y/y. The headline CPI report of +2.4% y/y was just 0.1 point above the 5-year low posted in April 2025, while the core CPI of +2.5% y/y matched the 5-year low posted in the two previous months. Even though the CPI figures are at or near 5-year lows, they are still above the Fed’s target of +2%. Moreover, inflation pressures will worsen in the coming months due to the recent spike in oil and fuel prices caused by the war in Iran.
Stocks were undercut after JPMorgan Chase said it is restricting lending to private credit funds amid markdowns on some of its loans in the sector, hampering the sector's attempt to weather the current crisis. The $1.8 trillion private credit sector is struggling to cope with an investor exodus driven by unattractive returns and fears of more financial difficulties among portfolio borrowers.
Q4 earnings season is nearly over, with more than 95% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 74% of the 492 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 0% chance for a -25 bp FOMC rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets closed mixed. The Euro Stoxx 50 is down -1.00%. China's Shanghai Composite closed up +0.25%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed up +1.43%, adding to Tuesday’s +2.88% recovery rally.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) fell -16 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield rose +6.0 bp to 4.216%, adding to Tuesday’s rise of +6 bp. T-note prices were undercut by Wednesday’s +4.6% rally in oil prices and the +3.2 bp rise in the 10-year inflation expectations rate to 2.383%. T-note prices were also undercut by supply overhang as the Treasury sold 10-year T-notes on Wednesday and will sell 30-year bonds on Thursday. The T-note market largely ignored the CPI report as stale news, given the surge in oil and fuel prices since the Iran war began.
European government bond yields rose sharply. The 10-year German bund yield rose +9.6 bp to 2.932%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose +13.3 bp to 4.686%.
Swaps are discounting a 4% chance of a -25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
The Magnificent Seven technology stocks closed mixed, with Amazon.com (AMZN) falling -0.9%, but Tesla (TSLA) rising +2.1%.
Oracle (ORCL) rallied more than +9% after reporting strong results and guidance indicating strong demand for AI computing.
The Oracle news provided early support to the software and computing infrastructure sector, but most of those stocks fell back. Datadog (DDOG) rose more than +3%. However, IBM (IBM) fell -0.7%, and Microsoft (MSFT) fell -0.3%.
Chip stocks also saw some support from the Oracle news, led by gains of +4.1% in Micron Technology (MU), +3.2% in Align Technology (ALGN), and +2.6% in Intel (INTC). Nvidia (NVDA) rose +0.5%
Oil stocks saw support with the rally in oil prices. Valero Energy (VLO) rallied +6.5%, Marathon Oil (MPC) rallied +5.4%, and Occidental Petroleum (OXY) rallied +4.6%. Chevron (CVX) rose +3.0%, and Exxon (XOM) rose +2.3%.
Nike (NKE) gave up an early advance and closed down -0.7% after an upgrade from Barclays to overweight.
Campbell’s Co (CPB) fell nearly -7% after cutting its full-year earnings guidance.
UniFirst Corp (UNF) rallied more than +6% after Cintas agreed to buy the company in a deal worth $5.5 billion.

Stocks Pressured by Higher Oil Prices, But Positive Oracle AI News Helps Tech Stocks

Oracle (NYSE:ORCL), a database and cloud software provider, closed Wednesday at $163.12, up 9.18%. The stock rallied after a fiscal Q3 earnings and revenue beat, strong cloud and AI growth, and raised long-term revenue guidance. Investors are also eyeing execution on large AI data center projects.
Trading volume reached 79 million shares, coming in about 162% above its three-month average of 30.1 million shares. Oracle IPO'd in 1986 and has grown 257,656% since going public.
How the markets moved today
S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) slipped 0.10% to 6,775, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) edged up 0.08% to 22,716. Within enterprise software and cloud computing, industry peers Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) closed at $404.88 (-0.22%) and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) finished at $248.87 (-0.53%), lagging Oracle’s post-earnings surge.
What this means for investors
Investors breathed a big sigh of relief after Oracle’s earnings announcement. That’s because the company has become the face of concern over spending on artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
Even after today’s jump, Oracle stock is down over 16% this year as investors worried that it was overextending itself with capital spending on AI. This report eased fears over its aggressive AI spending, though.
Oracle reported 22% revenue growth, including 44% cloud revenue growth. It also reported a $553 billion backlog and provided an upbeat 2027 outlook. The company also said it doesn’t have any plans to issue bonds beyond what has already been announced this year. That may have been the biggest news that had investors buying shares today.

Stock Market Today, March 11: Oracle Surges After Earnings Beat and Upbeat Long-Term Revenue Guidance

CoreWeave offers an AI development toolkit in a market where AI development costs are going up rapidly.
It has locked in partnerships with giants like IBM and has a $66 billion backlog.
The company is posting some incredible growth numbers like 168% revenue growth for 2025.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is expensive. It constantly needs more of everything to advance as a technology: more electricity, more data centers, more memory, more money.

Lots of companies want to develop AI, either for commercial use or for their own internal purposes. But many either can't spend or would rather avoid spending hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars to develop their own AI infrastructure.
Fortunately for them, there's CoreWeave (NASDAQ: CRWV), which offers prospective AI developers access to the tools and hardware needed to develop AI without having to take on all the costs associated with it themselves.
Rent-a-lab
CoreWeave offers a line of products aimed at AI developers. For instance, CoreWeave ARENA, which is basically a rentable AI lab on the company's cloud.
In it, customers can test their AI program's performance, see how effectively it can scale, and how much it will cost. It runs on CoreWeave's own data center network, which spans North America and Europe. With access to CoreWeave's systems, start-up AI developers don't have to shell out loads of money to build their own data centers.
The company also offers a service called Slurm on Kubernetes or SUNK, which is an industry first. It allows customers to train their AI programs with CoreWeave's network. That's important because training new AI models wasn't cheap when OpenAI launched the first version of ChatGPT, and it's only becoming more expensive.
According to an Epoch AI study, the cost of training new AI models has been growing at a rate of 2 to 3 times annually for the past eight years. And if that rate continues, it could cost upwards of $1 billion just to train an LLM by 2027.
But with CoreWeave, smaller AI companies can train their AI faster and cheaper than the competition in some cases. Mistral AI, a French AI developer, trained its eponymous AI program fully on CoreWeave's cloud and was able to do it 2.5 times faster than it would have been able to manage on its own.
And it's not just smaller companies using CoreWeave's services either. International Business Machines is also a major customer, and it partnered with CoreWeave to develop and train its Granite models 1.8 times faster than it could prior to using CoreWeave's services.
OpenAI also uses CoreWeave to aid in the creation of its own models. It makes sense; they know firsthand how pricey developing AI is.
How does that translate to CoreWeave's financial results? Quite well, actually.
An AI growth machine
CoreWeave had a pretty incredible end to 2025.
While profitability eluded the company with its $606 million adjusted net loss, its revenue grew 168% over 2024 to hit $5.1 billion. And new business is flooding in.
The company grew its backlog 342% to $66.8 billion by the end of 2025. So, its services are clearly in very high demand.
Over half of that backlog is in long-term deals of 25 months or more, so revenue is set to continue coming in at a good clip moving forward.
CoreWeave is anticipating an even better 2026 and has set its full-year guidance at $12 to $13 billion. The low-ball for guidance is more than double its total revenue for 2025.
A tad optimistic? Maybe.
But even with fears of an AI bubble on the horizon spooking investors throughout 2025, CoreWeave still managed to grow at a remarkable pace. And with new deals coming in at an incredible rate, CoreWeave's growth guidance is likely attainable.
There's no shortage of demand, and CoreWeave has already locked in long-term partnerships with tech giants like IBM.
CoreWeave is already looking strong even while running at a loss. If it can achieve profitability in the relative short term, then it's likely to remain as an important piece of the AI market's infrastructure.
Give this one a look now, it's down from its all-time high in June 2025, but still up 81% from where it was at its initial public offering (IPO) in March 2025. With growth numbers like the ones it has been releasing, CoreWeave seems to be hitting its stride.

Oracle is rallying more than 10% after the company reported strong sales and issued optimistic guidance on demand for AI computing.
Stocks showed little net reaction to the CPI report, which was in line with market expectations. Stocks are seeing downward pressure as the Iran war drags on, with three vessels hit by missiles today in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, and with new volleys of missiles hitting Israel.
Today’s US Feb CPI report was exactly in line with market expectations. The Feb CPI rose +0.3% m/m and +2.4% y/y, while the Feb core CPI rose +0.2% m/m and +2.5% y/y. Today’s headline CPI report of +2.4% y/y was just 0.1 point above the 5-year low posted in April 2025, while today’s core CPI of +2.5% y/y matched the 5-year low posted in the two previous months. Even though the CPI figures are at or near 5-year lows, they are still above the Fed’s target of +2%. Moreover, inflation pressures will worsen in the coming months due to the recent spike in oil and fuel prices caused by the war in Iran.
Stocks were undercut today after JPMorgan Chase said it is restricting lending to private credit funds amid markdowns on some of its loans in the sector, hampering the sector's attempt to weather the current crisis. The $1.8 trillion private credit sector is struggling to cope with an investor exodus driven by unattractive returns and fears of more financial difficulties among portfolio borrowers.
Q4 earnings season is nearly over, with more than 95% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 74% of the 492 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 0% chance for a -25 bp FOMC rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets are mixed. The Euro Stoxx 50 is down -1.04%. China's Shanghai Composite closed up +0.25%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed up +1.43%, adding to Tuesday’s +2.88% recovery rally.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) are down by -10.5 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is up +2.7 bp at 4.183%, adding to Tuesday’s rise of +6 bp. The T-note market largely ignored today’s CPI report as old news, and instead focused on today’s +2.5 bp rise in the 10-year breakeven inflation expectations rate to 2.375%. T-note prices are being undercut by supply overhang ahead of the Treasury’s sale of 10-year T-notes today and 30-year bonds on Thursday.
European government bond yields are higher. The 10-year German bund yield is up +7.8 bp at 2.915%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is up +10.2 bp at 4.655%.
Swaps are discounting a 4% chance of a -25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
The Magnificent Seven technology stocks are trading mostly higher, led by a gain of more than +2% in Tesla (TSLA) and a gain of +0.8% in Nvidia (NVDA)
Oracle (ORCL) is up more than +12% after reporting strong results and guidance indicating strong demand for AI computing.
The Oracle news is providing support to the software and computing infrastructure sector, with Crowdstrike (CRWD) and Datadog (DDOG) posting gains of more than +3%. IBM (IBM) is up more than +1%, and Microsoft (MSFT) is up +0.6%.
Chip stocks are also seeing support from the Oracle news, led by gains of more than +2% in Intel (INTC) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Nvidia (NVDA) is up +0.8%
Oil stocks are seeing support with today’s rally in oil prices. Marathon Oil (MPC) and Occidental Petroleum (OXY) are up more than +2%.
Nike (NKE) is up more than +1% after an upgrade from Barclays to overweight.
Campbell’s Co (CPB) is down more than -3% after cutting its full-year earnings guidance.
UniFirst Corp (UNF) is up more than +6% after Cintas agreed to buy the company in a deal worth $5.5 billion.

IBM faces competition from Microsoft Corporation MSFT and Alphabet Inc. GOOGL. Microsoft is expanding agentic AI through its Microsoft Copilot platform by adding AI agents that can automate tasks across apps like Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams. It is also introducing new tools and industry-specific AI agents to help businesses automate workflows and improve productivity. Microsoft has partnered with Tech Mahindra to launch an agentic AI platform built on Azure and Microsoft Fabric to help telecom companies automate decisions and modernize data operations.
Google is advancing its agentic AI through its Gemini platform, which allows AI agents to perform complex multi-step tasks and automate workflows for users and businesses. What this transaction means for investors
On the surface, Solas Capital’s interest in the stock appeared understandable. Tech investors probably know Kyndryl best as IBM’s former managed infrastructure business. The stock had achieved record highs in early 2025 only to give back much of the gains it had earned in the previous year.
Unfortunately, it looks like Solas Capital should have exercised more patience. The tech stock has lost nearly half of its value since the beginning of the year. The company announced in February that it would delay its 10-Q filing amid an accounting review. This led to the resignation of the company’s CFO and general counsel.
Additionally, the company issued disappointing guidance as sales cycles became longer, data sovereignty issues arose, and ongoing challenges involving its partnership with its former parent company, IBM, came to the surface.
Investment funds occasionally run into such issues when investing in individual stocks, and this is why most investment experts tend to emphasize diversification.
Ultimately, investors will have to wait to see whether Solas Capital sold its Kyndryl stock, doubled down, or held its position. Nonetheless, whatever happens, the fund’s next 13-F filing will likely be one to watch.
