What this transaction means for investors
Kessler’s purchase of luxury outerwear stock Canada Goose is certainly eye-catching. After just two quarters of buying the stock, Kessler has already made the luxury business its tenth-largest holding. Trading between 1 and 1.5 times sales in Q3 and Q4 when Kessler bought, Canada Goose is a reasonably priced luxury stock to consider.
However, the company recently reported Q3 earnings on Feb. 5th, and the market sent GOOS stock down over 10%. Canada Goose grew total sales by 14% and North American revenue by 20%, while delivering its fourth consecutive quarter of direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales growth. However, its margins and earnings remained weaker than expected. It will be interesting to see if Kessler buys the dip when we get Q1 data.
Personally, the cyclicality and volatility in apparel stocks typically scare me away from investing in them. However, Canada Goose’s luxury tilt -- and now discounted valuation at just 1.1 times sales and 9 times free cash flow -- makes it much more intriguing than most. Not only have its down-filled products remained resilient over time, but its “newness” (new product categories) sales have doubled year over year, suggesting that customer appetite for the brand extends beyond its traditional offerings.
If Canada Goose can rein in its expenses over time and maintain its premium branding, it could prove to be a steal for Kessler at today’s potential cyclical trough.

eBay Inc. EBAY reported third-quarter 2025 non-GAAP earnings of $1.36 per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 2.26%. The bottom line increased 14.3% year over year.
Net revenues of $2.82 billion beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 2.9%. The figure increased 9.5% from the year-ago quarter on a reported basis and 8% on an FX-neutral basis.
eBay’s first-party advertising products generated revenues of $496 million in the reported quarter, up 25% on an as-reported basis and 23% on an FX-neutral basis.
Total advertising offerings yielded $525 million in revenues, representing 2.6% of gross merchandise volume (GMV).

eBay Q3 Earnings & Revenues Surpass Estimates, Both Increase Y/Y

Booking Holdings BKNG reported third-quarter 2025 earnings of $99.5 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 3.6%. The figure increased 18.6% year over year.
Revenues of $9.01 billion beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 3.12% and increased 12.7% year over year and about 8% on a constant currency (cc) basis. The growth exceeded the high end of company guidance by 4 percentage points, in line with the outperformance on gross bookings.
Revenues as a percentage of gross bookings were 18.1%, down about 30 basis points year over year, primarily due to a higher mix of flight bookings and increased merchandising contra-revenues, partly related to prior-period bookings. The decline was partially offset by higher revenues from payments.
In the third quarter of 2025, BKNG benefited from its ongoing Connected Trip vision, stronger loyalty programs, expanded AI-driven features and increased direct bookings. Growth momentum was further supported by solid performance in Asia and sustained demand for alternative accommodations.

Merchant revenues were $6.13 billion (68.1% of the total revenues), up 23.3% on a year-over-year basis.
Agency revenues were $2.57 billion (28.5% of the total revenues), down 6.7% year over year.
Advertising & Other revenues were $308 million (3.4% of the total revenues), up 14.5% year over year.
Third-quarter room nights of 323 million, up 8.2% year over year, surpassed the high end of guidance. Growth was driven by robust demand across all major regions, with the United States showing high single-digit acceleration led by strong outbound travel and continued momentum in the B2B segment.
Alternative accommodations continue to be a strong long-term growth driver. Listings rose to over 8.6 million, up about 10% year over year, with double-digit room night growth. Steady demand across regions and a broad mix of hotels, homes and unique stays strengthen Booking Holdings’ competitive position in this segment.
Booking Holdings saw Connected Trip transaction growth of mid-20% year over year in the third quarter, and these connected transactions represent a low double-digit percentage of Booking.com’s total transactions.
BKNG’s Q3 Operating Results
Marketing expense, which is a highly variable expense line, increased 8.8% year over year. Marketing expense as a percentage of gross bookings was 4.7% in the reported third quarter, slightly lower than the 5% recorded in the third quarter of 2024.
Marketing expense as a percentage of gross bookings served as a key source of operating leverage, driven by changes in traffic mix and lower brand marketing expenses as a percentage of total gross bookings. The company also maintained disciplined investments in social media channels, achieving attractive ROIs.
Third-quarter sales and other expenses as a percentage of gross bookings were 2.1%, slightly higher than 2% in the prior year, primarily driven by an increasing merchant mix resulting in higher payment expenses, partially offset by increased efficiencies in customer service.
Adjusted fixed operating expenses increased 10% year over year, or mid-single digits after normalizing for changes in FX. The year-over-year increase was impacted by increased cloud costs.
Personnel expenses increased year over year by 9% in the third quarter, primarily due to an increase in salary expenses, as well as increases in bonus expense accruals.
Adjusted EBITDA rose 15% year over year to approximately $4.2 billion, exceeding the high end of guidance by 6 percentage points, driven largely by stronger revenue growth. Adjusted EBITDA margin expanded 110 basis points (bps) year over year to 47% in the reported quarter.
BKNG’s Q3 Balance Sheet
As of Sept. 30, 2025, the company’s cash and investments totaled $17.2 billion, down from $18.2 billion as of June 30, 2025. The decline primarily reflected a $2.4 billion reduction in Deferred Merchant Bookings and Other Current Liabilities.
Booking Holdings had $17 billion of total debt, down from $18.47 billion as of June 30, 2025.
Free cash flow was $1.4 billion compared with $3.1 billion reported in the previous quarter.
Booking Holdings’ Q4 & FY25 Guidance
For the fourth quarter of 2025, Room Night Growth is expected to be between 4% and 6%. Gross bookings are projected to grow 11-13%, benefiting from roughly two percentage points of uplift driven by higher flight ticket growth.
Fourth-quarter revenue growth is expected to be between 10% and 12%.
The company expects fourth-quarter adjusted EBITDA between $2 billion and $2.1 billion, suggesting growth of 14% year over year at the high end.
For the full year 2025, BKNG anticipates Room Night Growth to increase by around 7%, while gross bookings are projected to grow between 11% and 12%.
The company expects revenue growth of approximately 12% and adjusted EBITDA to rise between 17% and 18% for 2025.
EBITDA margins are expected to expand by approximately 180 basis points year over year, exceeding the company’s earlier projection of about 125 basis points.

Booking Holdings Q3 Earnings Beat Estimates, Revenues Rise Y/Y

Wayfair W reported third-quarter 2025 non-GAAP earnings of 70 cents per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 52.17% and increased 218.2% year over year.
Net revenues for the third quarter of 2025 rose 8.1% year over year to $3.1 billion. Excluding the impact of the company’s exit from Germany, revenue growth stood at about 9% year over year. The figure beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 3.62%.
Last Twelve Months (LTM) net revenues per active customer increased 6.1% year over year to $578, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 5.75%.
Further, the active customer base declined. The metric decreased 2.3% year over year to 21.2 million, missing the consensus mark by 3.19%.

The average order value increased from $310 to $317 year over year, which missed the consensus mark by 0.47%.

Repeat customers placed 7.9 million orders (80.1% of total orders delivered) in the third quarter, which increased 6.8% year over year.
Additionally, 63% of total delivered orders were placed through mobile devices in the reported quarter compared with 62.9% in the year-ago quarter.

Wayfair’s third-quarter gross profit was $934 million, up 7% year over year, representing a gross margin of 30%, which narrowed 30 basis points (bps) due to a slightly unfavorable mix and higher fulfillment costs.
Adjusted EBITDA was $208 million in the reported quarter, up 74.8% year over year, representing an adjusted EBITDA margin of 6.7%, which expanded 250 bps.
Customer service and merchant fees increased 5.4% year over year to $118 million.
Advertising expenses decreased 6.8% year over year to $330 million. Selling, operations, technology and general and administrative expenses decreased 7.3% year over year to $445 million.
Wayfair reported GAAP operating income of $38 million for the third quarter, marking a strong turnaround from an operating loss of $74 million in the year-ago quarter.

The other e-commerce giant
Although Amazon has a strong hold on U.S. e-commerce, Shopify may be the runner up to the retail powerhouse. You won't see its name on the list of top U.S. e-commerce retailers because it doesn't sell products to consumers; it sells e-commerce, and increasingly all types of commerce, solutions as a business-to-business company. However, Shopify's gross merchandise volume, or the amount of money it processes across its commerce empire, comes close to Amazon's stores and third-party sales figures: $87 billion versus $107 billion in the second quarter.
Shopify makes money from subscription fees and processing fees, so its revenue is much lower than that: $2.7 billion in the second quarter. However, it's growing quickly. Revenue increased 31% year over year, and that's been accelerating.
The company has many factors helping it achieve that kind of growth. E-commerce is still increasing as a percentage of retail sales, an organic growth driver, but it's also expanding to physical stores and a complete set of omnichannel shopping options. Shopify offers the gamut of different packages, including single services, and that more recent development opens it up to a larger group of clients, including enterprise clients like Starbucks and Canada Goose. Entrepreneurship is on the rise, and that's Shopify's sweet spot.
It's also expanding internationally. Although Shopify is the largest e-commerce software platform in the U.S., it has major international competition from larger companies like WooCommerce and Squarespace, and it's launching new services in more global locations to grab greater market share.
Shopify stock is climbing
Shopify stock is already up about 47% this year, but if the banks are telling a story of the overall economy, Shopify is likely to demonstrate excellent performance when it reports third-quarter results on Nov. 4.
But whether or not it jumps in early November, which looks likely right now, it has a long growth runway, and the best time to invest is as soon as you can.

1 Incredible Reason to Buy Shopify (SHOP) Stock in October

The TJX Companies, Inc. (TJX) posted second-quarter fiscal 2026 results, wherein the top and bottom lines surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate. Both metrics also increased from the year-ago quarter.
TJX's Quarterly Metrics: Key Insights
The TJX Companies’ earnings per share (EPS) were $1.10, up 15% from the year-ago quarter. The metric also exceeded the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.01 per share.
Net sales came in at $14.4 billion, registering an increase of 7% year over year and surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $14.1 billion.
In the Marmaxx (United States) division, the company’s net sales were $8,841 million, up 5% year over year. Net sales amounted to $2,286 million, up 9% year over year, in the HomeGoods (United States) division. TJX Canada’s net sales were $1,381 million, up 11% from the figure reported in the year-ago period. TJX International’s (Europe & Australia) net sales were $1,893 million, up 13% year over year.
The company witnessed a 4% jump in consolidated comparable store sales. This growth was primarily driven by higher customer transactions. Comparable store sales rose 3% at Marmaxx (United States), 5% at HomeGoods (United States), 9% at TJX Canada and 5% at TJX International (Europe & Australia).

The TJX Companies’ pretax profit margin was 11.4%, up 0.5 percentage points from the year-ago quarter’s level. The gross profit margin was 30.7%, up 0.3 percentage points year over year, mainly due to favorable hedges. Merchandise margin remained flat in spite of increased tariff costs year over year.
The company’s selling, general and administrative (SG&A) costs, as a percent of sales, were 19.5%, a 0.3 percentage point decrease, due to operational efficiencies and gains from the timing of certain expenses.
TJX’s Financial Health Snapshot
During second-quarter fiscal 2026, the Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) company’s store count increased by 13, ending the quarter with 5,134 stores.
The TJX Companies ended the quarter with cash and cash equivalents of $4.6 billion, long-term debt of $2.9 billion and shareholders’ equity of $8.9 billion. It generated an operating cash flow of $2.2 billion during the first half of the fiscal year.
During the quarter, the company returned $1 billion to its shareholders. The TJX Companies repurchased and retired 4.1 million shares. It paid out $474 million in dividends in the same quarter. During the reported quarter, the company completed the $1.1-billion that remained as of Feb. 1, 2025, from the earlier-announced stock repurchase program. In February 2025, management approved a new stock repurchase program, authorizing up to an additional $2.5 billion in share buybacks. As of Aug. 2, 2025, TJX had approximately $2.4 billion remaining under this stock repurchase authorization.
Consolidated inventories (on a per-store basis) as of Aug. 2, 2025, increased 10% year over year on a reported and constant currency basis. The TJX Companies is capitalizing on strong merchandise availability in the marketplace and is well-positioned to deliver fresh assortments to its stores and online platforms throughout the fall and holiday season.
What to Expect From TJX Moving Forward?
For fiscal 2026, The TJX Companies still expects consolidated comparable store sales growth of 3%. The full-year pretax profit margin is projected to range between 11.4% and 11.5%, reflecting flat to down 0.1 percentage point compared with 11.5% in the prior year and the earlier expected range of 11.3-11.4%. In addition, fiscal 2026 EPS is forecasted to be between $4.52 and $4.57, marking a 6-7% increase from the previous year’s $4.26 EPS and the earlier guidance of $4.34-$4.43. Foreign exchange headwinds are expected to have a slight negative impact on EPS growth in fiscal 2026.
For the third quarter of fiscal 2026, management expects consolidated comparable store sales to grow 2-3%. The company projects a pretax profit margin between 12% and 12.1%, reflecting a decline of 0.2-0.3 percentage points from 12.3% in the prior-year quarter. The quarterly EPS is expected in the bracket of $1.17-$1.19, representing a year-over-year increase of 3-4% compared with $1.14 in the year-ago period.
The TJX Companies’ third-quarter and fiscal 2026 guidance assumes that existing U.S. tariffs on imports into the US, as of Aug. 20, 2025, will stay in place through the rest of the fiscal year.
Shares of the company have gained 4.5% in the past three months compared with the industry’s growth of 5.9%.

TJX's Q2 Earnings and Sales Beat Estimates, Comparable Sales Up 4%

Investors in Shopify (NASDAQ: SHOP) have gone on a wild ride in the last five years. The e-commerce software and payments platform saw surging growth and a meteoric rise in its stock price during the COVID-19 pandemic before crashing down to earth in 2022. Shares went from close to $170 to below $30 in less than two years. Now, the stock is rising again, hitting recent highs of over $150 after positing strong growth yet again in the second quarter of 2025.
But still, Shopify shareholders remain underwater if they bought at most points in 2021. Does that mean the stock is a buy today after its recent post-earnings pop?

Accelerating global growth
Even though inflation has come down and consumer spending growth has slowed in the United States, Shopify's revenue growth is accelerating. It is doing so by gaining market share of e-commerce and retail spending in the United States while expanding to new markets such as Europe. Last quarter, revenue grew 31% year over year to $2.68 billion, compared to 21% growth in the year-ago period. Payment volume in Europe -- which correlates closely to revenue -- grew 42% and greatly outpaced overall sales.
Why are more and more businesses such as Starbucks and Canada Goose adopting Shopify's software tools? Because of its wide breadth of products that help grow their businesses, outsourcing an important function (having your own online storefront) to a trusted third party. Not every sale is going to come from Amazon, while some companies don't want to sell on broad-based marketplaces at all. Shopify's tools help businesses process payments and grow earnings, which leads to more revenue for Shopify as it takes a cut of every transaction.
This is a self-reinforcing cycle that has helped Shopify's revenue grow from well under $1 billion to $10 billion in less than 10 years, making it one of the fastest-growing businesses in the world.
Expanding products and margin expansion potential
Shopify is not resting on its laurels. It is building new services to grow with its customer base. This includes connections with artificial intelligence (AI) query services to help pull products from its commerce partners when users ask chatbots questions. Everything comes back to driving more sales through e-commerce websites, which has driven total payment volume on Shopify partner websites from under $1 billion in 2012 to $327 billion in the last 12 months.
What's more, Shopify is now moving beyond payments for commerce partners through Shopify Campaigns, an advertising service. These campaigns can go on traditional channels such as Google or Instagram but also on the native Shop application. Shop is a mobile app from Shopify that acts as an aggregator for its e-commerce partners, similar to Amazon. This is a bold new venture in building a consumer-facing application but greatly expands Shopify's addressable market.
Add everything together along with the core tailwind of its e-commerce market share gains and Shopify should be able to grow its revenue at a double-digit rate for a long while. In 2025, it expects to grow revenue between 25% and 30% compared to 2024. Right now, Shopify's operating margin is 15.4%. As a payments and software company with low overhead, increasing scale should lead to improving profit margins for Shopify in the years to come. This can help underlying earnings grow even faster than revenue.
Should you buy Shopify stock?
After looking through the financials, it is clear that Shopify is a great business. This is why the stock price is up 5,000% since its initial public offering (IPO) around 10 years ago.
That does not necessarily make the stock a buy, though.
Shopify's stock trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of about 76. This metric takes the current market cap of $185 billion and divides it by consensus estimates of $1.84 per share for net income over the next 12 months. This is already factoring in Shopify's expected strong revenue and earnings growth in the coming quarters. It will be many years before this lofty P/E ratio gets down to the average level of 20 to 30 for large-cap stocks listed in the United States.
At a market cap pushing $200 billion and only $10 billion in trailing revenue, Shopify stock looks overvalued, even though the business is firing on all cylinders. You should avoid buying shares of this company after its post-earnings pop.

Should You Buy Shopify Stock After Its Post-Earnings Pop?

Shopify easily crushed its prior conservative guidance when it reported Q2 results.
The company gave an upbeat outlook, saying it has seen no effect from tariffs.
However, the stock's valuation has crept up.
Shares of Shopify (NASDAQ: SHOP) soared after the e-commerce software company reported strong results and issued upbeat guidance, saying an expected tariff effect has not materialized.
The stock is now up more than 40% year to date, and up over 180% during the past year, as of this writing.

Strong results and upbeat outlook
After issuing conservative guidance last quarter, Shopify was decidedly more upbeat this time around. Meanwhile, its second-quarter results easily soared past its earlier cautious guidance. The company grew its Q2 revenue by 31% to $2.68 billion, which was well ahead of the $2.55 billion analyst consensus, as compiled by LSEG.
Gross merchandise volume (GMV) on its platform also jumped 31% to $87.8 billion, led by a 42% increase in international GMV. Europe was particularly strong, with GMV soaring 49%. The company's consumer-facing Shop App, meanwhile, saw GMV skyrocket 140%, helped by artificial intelligence (AI) enhancements.
Overall merchant solution revenue climbed 37% to $2 billion, helped by GMV growth and the increased penetration of Shopify Payments, its payment processing platform. Shopify Payments has expanded into 60 new countries just this year, with multi-currency support now available in 20 countries.
Subscription revenue, meanwhile, increased by nearly 17% to $656 million, helped by higher-priced subscription plans.
Shopify continues to add more large brands to its platform, including Starbucks, Canada Goose, and Signet Jewelers, among others. It said the type of clients it serves keeps expanding, as seen by it adding Boart Longyear, a global leader in mining and drilling services. That's a far cry from the small, drop-ship businesses that Shopify was once known for serving as its primary customer base.
Looking ahead, Shopify forecast third-quarter revenue growth at a mid-to-high twenties percentage rate. That's above the 21.7% growth that analysts were forecasting, according to StreetAccount.
The company said it has not seen any major changes in demand or buyer behavior related to tariffs, although many of its merchants have raised prices. It said any potential effect from the elimination of the de minimis exemption by the U.S. is still early, but that only 4% of its GMV globally is currently shipped under the exemption.
Meanwhile, it is turning to AI to help drive growth. It's created a Shopify Catalog that simplifies the process for apps and AI agents to search and pull product data to make sure results are up to date. It also just launched a Universal Cart, where customers can hold items from multiple stores all in one place.
Is it too late to buy the stock?
Shopify continues to demonstrate strong growth. It's done a great job of moving upmarket, showing the power of its platform. At the same time, it's starting to grow with its customers, as Shopify Payment adoption continues to increase. The company is also constantly innovating, which helps drive revenue for both it and its customers.
It's expanding into new areas, as seen with the addition of Boart Longyear as a customer. Newer areas like offline and business-to-business, which saw its GMV double in the quarter, also continue to show strong growth.
International markets, particularly Europe, were a standout in Q2. With 68% of its revenue coming from the U.S. and Canada, the company has a massive opportunity to continue expanding internationally.
While the company is not immune to a consumer slowdown, thus far, it hasn't seen any effect from tariffs. That's a good sign.
Looking at valuation, Shopify now trades at a more than 18 times forward price-to-sales (P/S) ratio based on 2025 analyst estimates and 15 times 2026 estimates. That's much higher than the 8 to 12 times multiple it has traded at in recent years.
While I like the strides that Shopify is making, I would not chase this recent rally, given its valuation and the weak U.S. job market.
