GE Vernova is a strong pure play on rising U.S. energy demand. As data center buildout continues, high demand for its efficient gas turbines is surging. Because its gas turbines can be installed in months, not years, it is ideal for rapid energy deployment.
As of late 2025, GE Vernova's backlog is $135 billion, and it expects it could grow to $200 billion by 2028. In its gas turbine segment alone, the pipeline of signed orders and slot reservations is approaching 70 GW, showing robust demand for future services.
2. This integrated oil and gas company is focusing on natural gas for future growth
ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) is one of the largest integrated oil and gas companies in the U.S. The company has a diverse portfolio of assets across Guyana and the resource-rich Permian Basin, along with key liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals.
Exxon operates an integrated business model, encompassing both upstream (exploration and production) and downstream (refining crude oil into petroleum products and chemicals) operations. This helps smooth out some of the cyclicality in the oil and gas business, which can lead to fluctuations in earnings and share price.
Many may view ExxonMobil as an oil stock, but the real opportunity over the next decade will come from its natural gas business. To meet growing energy demand, the U.S. will need more natural gas alongside other energy sources such as nuclear, wind, and solar.

As a result, the company must return most of its income to investors through distributions and yields 6.8%, making it highly appealing to income-focused investors.
The pipeline operator has over $5.1 billion in capital projects under construction, including new processing plants and export terminals, as it seeks to capitalize on the growing demand for natural gas. U.S. natural gas futures have pulled back sharply in recent sessions, even after the latest government data showed a triple-digit storage withdrawal. Prices moved lower as traders shifted focus away from storage and back toward weather forecasts and supply trends.
At this time, we advise investors to focus on stocks such as Coterra Energy (CTRA), EQT Corporation (EQT) and Excelerate Energy (EE), which are positioned to benefit from longer-term natural gas demand tied to infrastructure and exports.
Prices Slide as Weather Turns Milder
Natural gas prices struggled throughout the week, finishing near their lowest levels since late October. The front-month futures contract fell more than 3% over the week, settling just below $4 per million British thermal units. Early attempts to rebound faded quickly as updated forecasts showed warmer-than-normal temperatures lasting into early January. With less cold weather expected, traders scaled back expectations for heating demand, putting steady pressure on prices.
The market reaction highlighted how sensitive winter trading remains to short-term weather shifts. Even after a cold start to December, the lack of sustained freezing temperatures erased much of the earlier weather-driven premium.
Supply Strength Outweighs Storage Draw
The latest Energy Information Administration weekly report showed a large 167 billion cubic feet (Bcf) storage withdrawal. While the draw was well above normal for this time of the year, total inventories remained slightly above the five-year average, suggesting that supply is still adequate to meet demand.
At the same time, U.S. natural gas production continued to hover near record levels, averaging around 110 Bcf per day in December. This steady flow of supply has limited upside for prices, even as LNG exports provide a consistent baseline demand.
Overall market signals point to caution. Traders do not appear concerned about a late-winter storage shortfall, treating cold-weather price spikes as chances to sell rather than the start of a lasting rally. Unless forecasts turn much colder, an ample supply is expected to keep prices under pressure.
Looking Ahead With a Long-Term Lens
While near-term price action remains tied to weather and production, the longer-term outlook is more balanced. LNG exports, pipeline demand and global gas markets continue to provide structural support to U.S. natural gas over time.
Short-term volatility is likely to persist through the heart of winter, but investors with a longer horizon may find opportunity in companies linked to natural gas infrastructure and exports. At this time, we advise investors to focus on stocks such as Coterra Energy, EQT and Excelerate Energy, which remain well-positioned as natural gas demand continues to evolve beyond short-term weather swings.

The U.S. benchmark price surged past $5 per MMBtu in early December for the first time in three years, driven by strong LNG exports and cold weather, while European prices trended lower.
Globally, demand growth slowed to a modest 0.5% through the first three quarters of the year (as per World Bank data), dampened by high prices and macroeconomic pressures. However, as we approach 2026, a key shift is on the horizon, with major institutions projecting a demand rebound next year.
Notably, the World Bank report estimates natural gas consumption to rise around 2%, led by a recovery in the Asia Pacific region. This anticipated turnaround, fueled by recovering industrial activity and increased use in the power sector, puts a strategic spotlight on Natural Gas Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) as a way for investors to position for this potential growth.

Heading into 2026, expectations point to a significant increase in supply and a rebound in demand. The International Energy Agency forecasts a record 7% rise in LNG supply, the strongest since 2019, driven by new projects coming online in the United States, Qatar and Canada.
This influx is anticipated to lower spot prices just enough to unlock latent demand in Asia, particularly China and India. For producers and midstream providers, this volume-driven growth is expected to bolster profitability, subsequently driving the valuations of Natural Gas ETFs that track these sector leaders.

Its top three holdings include Coterra Energy CTRA (8.10%), Expand Energy EXE (7.65%) and EQT Corp. EQT (7.57%).
LNGX has risen 5.7% year to date and improved 5.8% since Oct. 15, 2025. The fund charges 45 bps as fees. It traded at a volume of 0.005 million shares in the last trading session.
ProShares Ultra Bloomberg Natural Gas BOIL
This fund, with a net asset value of $25.93, is the only ETF that targets 2x the daily returns of natural gas futures.
BOIL has lost 52.4% year to date but rose 4.8% since Oct. 15, 2025. The fund charges 95 bps as fees. It traded at a volume of 7.86 million shares in the last trading session.

Mizuho Maintains EQT (EQT) Outperform Recommendation

(RTTNews) - EQT (EQT) announced that its Infrastructure III and Infrastructure IV funds have fully exited their investment in Kodiak Gas Services.
The exit concludes EQT's first IPO from its infrastructure platform and a nearly seven-year partnership that supported Kodiak's rise into one of North America's largest contract compression companies.
Founded in 2011 and based in Houston, Kodiak provides essential natural gas compression equipment and services across the U.S. energy value chain. Its high-horsepower fleet supports major producers and midstream operators in key low-cost basins. The company's services are critical to maintaining domestic energy security by ensuring reliable natural gas transport in a complex supply environment.
Since EQT's initial investment in 2019, Kodiak has undergone substantial operational and strategic transformation. It executed multiple acquisitions, invested in digital tools and analytics to improve asset efficiency and lower emissions, and released its first sustainability report.
Kodiak now operates one of the lowest-emission fleets in the U.S. compression market. Over the investment period, revenue and EBITDA increased more than eightfold, the workforce grew by over 400 percent to more than 1,300 employees, and operations expanded across new markets in North America.
Kodiak was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2023. EQT gradually reduced its stake over the following 30 months through a series of sell-downs while continuing to support the company's transition as a public business.
Alex Darden, Partner and Head of the EQT Infrastructure Advisory Team Americas, noted that Kodiak's growth demonstrates the impact of long-term, responsible ownership. He stated that Kodiak broadened its reach, strengthened service capabilities, and established a strong foundation for ongoing market leadership.
Mickey McKee, Kodiak's President and CEO, said the partnership with EQT enabled Kodiak to scale with discipline, build one of the largest compression platforms in North America, and set new standards in performance, safety, and sustainability. He said Kodiak is well-positioned for future growth.
EQT closed Wednesday at $57.25, down 2.17%, and is trading pre-market at $57.09, a further decline of 0.28% on the NYSE.
