Bassett Missed on the Fiscal Fourth Quarter 2025 Results
On Feb 4, 2026, Bassett reported its fiscal fourth quarter 2025 results and missed on the Zacks Consensus by $0.07. Earnings were $0.23 compared to the Consensus of $0.30.
It was the first earnings miss in five quarters.
However, even though the company has talked about a challenging retail environment, revenue rose 5.1% year-over-year to $88.7 million. Retail sales were up 7.9% to $57.3 million.
The company has benefited from its restructuring strategy. Selling, general and administrative expenses (SG&A) were 53.2% of sales, 60 basis points lower than the prior year. This reflected benefits from the prior year’s restructuring plan and on-going cost containment activities coupled with greater leverage of fixed costs from higher sales levels.
“Our well-defined strategic plan for 2026 is designed to grow and take market share in an environment where housing activity is projected to remain slow and discretionary demand has moderated,” said Rob Spilman, CEO.
In a bright spot in the quarter, Bassett Casegoods, which is the wood business, saw sales up over 50% after it made a commitment to drive innovation.
It’s upholstery business also continued to be solid.
The company also recently formed the Bassett Hospitality Division and hired a leader with extensive experience selling to country clubs, senior living facilities, boutique hotels and related commercial areas.
It hopes to offer quick custom solutions from its domestic manufacturing facilities. This business will be a contributor to its wholesale business.
Analysts Cut Bassett’s Fiscal 2026 and 2027 Earnings Estimates
The analysts might have gotten too bullish about a turnaround in earnings in 2026, even though one is still expected.
Two estimates have been cut for 2026 in the last 30 days pushing the Zacks Consensus down to $1.00 from $1.09. This is still earnings growth of 33% because the company only earned $0.75 in fiscal 2025.
One estimate was also cut for 2027 in the last month, pushing down the 2027 Zacks Consensus to $1.34 from $1.39. But that is further earnings growth of 34%.

Bassett Shares Lag the S&P 500 the Last 5 Years
Housing has been in a recession for three years. That has impacted the furniture industry as well.

However, Bassett is now a cheap stock. It trades with a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of just 14.9. A P/E under 15 is usually considered a value stock.
But with earnings expected to grow over 30% this year and next, it also has a PEG ratio, which looks at P/E divided by growth, of just 0.9. A PEG ratio under 1.0 usually means a company has both value and growth.
Bassett is also shareholder friendly. It is paying an annual dividend of $0.80, which is yielding a juicy 5.4%.

Flowserve and Bassett Furniture have been highlighted as Zacks Bull and Bear of the Day

U.S. energy operator APA Corporation APA reported fourth-quarter 2025 adjusted earnings of 91 cents per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 62 cents. The bottom line rose from the year-ago adjusted profit of 79 cents. The outperformance primarily reflects higher-than-expected production and lower costs, partly offset by a drop in commodity realizations.
Revenues of $2 billion were down 20.9% from the year-ago quarter’s sales but beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 3%.
Meanwhile, APA continues to reward its shareholders, having paid out $640 million in dividends and buybacks during the full year of 2025.
APA Corporation Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise
Production & Selling Prices
Production of oil and natural gas averaged 459,767 BOE/d, which comprised 70% liquids. The figure was down 5.8% from the year-ago quarter but surpassed our expectation of 445,960 BOE/d.
U.S. output (accounting for 61% of the total) fell 10.3% year over year to 281,051 BOE/d, but production from the company’s international operations increased 2.1% to 178,716 BOE/d. APA’s oil and natural gas liquids (NGLs) production was 320,257 barrels per day (Bbl/d). Natural gas output totaled 837,065 thousand cubic feet per day (Mcf/d).
The average realized crude oil price during the fourth quarter was $61.03 per barrel, down 15.7% from the year-ago realization of $72.42. The number also came slightly below our projection of $61.10. The average realized natural gas price fell to $2.10 per thousand cubic feet (Mcf) from $2.20 in the year-ago period and missed our estimate of $2.49.
Costs & Financial Position
APA’s fourth-quarter lease operating expenses totaled $354 million, down 25.3% from $474 million in the year-ago period. Moreover, a 71.7% drop in purchased oil/gas costs meant that total operating expenses decreased nearly 26% from the corresponding period of 2024 to $1.5 billion. Our model had put the figure largely in line with the reported result.
During the quarter under review, APA generated $808 million of cash from operating activities while it incurred $434 million in upstream capital expenditures. The company reported an adjusted operating cash flow of $1 billion. It also registered a free cash flow of $425 million compared to $420 million a year ago.
As of Dec. 31, APA had approximately $516 million in cash and cash equivalents and $4.3 billion in long-term debt, representing a debt-to-capitalization of 41.3%.
Guidance
APA expects production to average 440,000 BOE/d in first-quarter 2026 and 436000 BOE/d in 2026 (down more than 6% year over year). Of this, oil volumes are likely to be 225,000 Bbl/d during the January-March period and 217,000 Bbl/d for the full year. The company pegged its upstream capital expenditure for the year at around $2.1 billion.
Some Key E&P Earnings
While we have discussed APA’s fourth-quarter results in detail, let’s see how some other upstream companies have fared this earnings season.
Shale-focused operator EOG Resources EOG reported third-quarter adjusted EPS of $2.27, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.20 but decreased from the year-ago quarter’s $2.74. EOG’s results were driven by higher oil-equivalent production volumes. A decline in the average realized price for crude oil and condensates partially offset the positives.
As of Dec. 31, 2025, EOG Resources had cash and cash equivalents worth $3.4 billion and long-term debt of $7.9 billion. The current portion of the long-term debt totaled $27 million. In the reported quarter, the company generated $978 million in free cash flow. EOG’s capital expenditure amounted to $1.6 billion.
ConocoPhillips COP, one of the world’s largest independent oil and gas producers, reported adjusted EPS of $1.02, which lagged the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.08. The bottom line decreased from the prior-year level of $1.98. ConocoPhillips’ weak quarterly earnings can be blamed on lower average realized oil-equivalent prices. The negatives were partially offset by higher oil-equivalent production volumes.
As of Dec. 31, ConocoPhillips had $6.5 billion in cash and cash equivalents. The company had a total long-term debt of $22.4 billion and a short-term debt of $1 billion as of the same date. Capital expenditure and investments totaled $3 billion. Net cash provided by operating activities was $4.3 billion.
Natural gas producer EQT Corporation EQT reported adjusted EPS of 90 cents per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 73 cents and improved from the year-ago profit of 69 cents. The strong quarterly earnings were driven by growth in total sales volumes and higher realized natural gas equivalent prices. In the December quarter, EQT sold 572 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of natural gas, higher than 566 Bcf in the prior-year quarter. The figure also beat our estimate of 561 Bcf.
EQT’s adjusted operating cash flow totaled $1.6 billion in the reported quarter, up from $1.2 billion a year ago. The free cash flow totaled $857 million, marking an increase from $588 million in the corresponding period of 2024.

Natural gas futures swung between gains and losses last week as traders weighed lingering winter demand against rising supply. Prices briefly dipped toward $2.75//MMBtu before rebounding on short-term cold forecasts. April futures closed around $2.86 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, posting a modest weekly gain.
At this time, investors may want to focus on natural gas-levered stocks such as Comstock Resources CRK, EQT Corporation EQT and Antero Resources (AR), which tend to respond quickly to shifts in commodity pricing.
Natural Gas Futures Near $2.80 Offers Tactical Entry
Traders have increasingly pointed to the sub-$3 level as an attractive short-term buying zone while winter demand remains in play. They note that anything below $3 can offer tactical opportunities, especially with cold weather still influencing near-term consumption.
This week’s consolidation around $2.80 drew bargain buying even as broader indicators stayed cautious. Prices initially slid after a lighter-than-expected storage withdrawal, then rebounded as forecasts called for another round of cold across parts of the United States.
Natural Gas Storage Signals Limited Risk Premium
The latest storage data underscored why rallies have struggled to gain traction. Working gas in storage fell by 52 billion cubic feet (Bcf) for the week, well below the five-year average withdrawal of 168 Bcf. That sharply narrowed the storage deficit to just 7 Bcf from 123 Bcf the prior week.
Inventories are now 141 Bcf higher than a year ago, about 8% above last year’s level. With storage close to its five-year average, short cold spells may lift prices briefly, but the overall supply picture makes a lasting spike less likely.
Production Growth Caps Natural Gas Rally

Market signals currently point to a defensive tone through spring and summer. As colder weather fades, prices may find it difficult to hold above the $2.80 area on a sustained basis.+9+
Risks also include softer export demand and the seasonal drop in heating consumption. Together, these factors could put pressure on gas futures even if short bursts of volatility create some favorable setups.
Still, tactical opportunities may emerge during weather-driven dips, particularly when prices fall decisively below $3. Investors willing to trade shorter time frames could find selective entry points.
Final Word
Over the medium term, fundamentals skew cautious. Until inventories tighten meaningfully or production growth slows, sustained upside appears limited. For now, disciplined positioning and a focus on well-capitalized natural gas producers such as Comstock Resources, EQT Corporation and Antero Resources may offer the most balanced approach for investors navigating this market.

EQT beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate for earnings in each of the last four quarters. The natural gas producer, with a Zacks Rank of 3, has a trailing four-quarter earnings surprise of roughly 13%, on average.
Antero Resources: It is an independent energy producer focused on natural gas and liquids in the Appalachian Basin. Headquartered in Denver, this Zacks #3 Ranked company develops low-cost assets in the Marcellus and Utica shales, holding about 515,000 net acres. Antero Resources’ production mix is weighted toward natural gas and NGLs, with minimal oil exposure. AR is also one of the largest U.S. suppliers of natural gas and LPG to export markets.
Antero Resources is supported by its midstream affiliate, Antero Midstream, in which it owns roughly 29%. This integrated setup secures transportation and market access from Appalachia to the Gulf Coast. A low debt profile and steady drilling results provide flexibility and support long-term growth. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Antero Resources’ 2026 earnings per share indicates an 84.2% year-over-year surge.

Should Investors Buy Natural Gas While It Stays Below $3?

Key Points
As the first tranche of a broader $550 billion planned investment in the U.S., Japan has pledged $36 billion to three U.S. projects.
The bulk of that $36 billion could go toward a proposed natural gas power plant in Ohio.
Details are thin regarding what companies could be suppliers to that project, but EQT and Hitachi have offerings that align with what the facility will need.
People can argue over where the artificial intelligence (AI) trend is headed, but there's no denying it's currently driving a surge in electricity demand and reshaping the nation's energy grid.
We're seeing some of those effects through a pledge from Japan, which plans to invest roughly $36 billion in the U.S. in the opening phase of a broader $550 billion deal.

That $36 billion is going to be spread among three projects, but the bulk of it is expected to go toward a proposed natural gas-fueled power plant in Ohio.
As electricity demand from data centers puts more strain on current infrastructure, and with usage only expected to increase, consumers are worried about their electricity bills rising. The 9.2 gigawatt Ohio power plant would be capable of supplying enough electricity to meet the needs of millions of homes.
Details are still thin on suppliers and the development timeline, but a project of this size will presumably need some major partners to provide a massive supply of fuel and infrastructure support.
Among the potential companies that could be involved, two stand out as worth a closer look for investors.
1. EQT
EQT (NYSE: EQT) is a vertically integrated natural gas provider, with operations in exploration, drilling, and production throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio.
While there's no guarantee EQT will be involved in the Ohio project, it's a company that could be involved thanks to its location and supply capabilities.
For location, with 150,000 net acres of leased or owned land in eastern Ohio, it is already operational in the state. It's also building the infrastructure needed to bring more natural gas to Ohio.
As for supply, the Ohio facility will require significant, consistent fuel deliveries. EQT is already the second-largest natural gas provider in the U.S. by volume, and CEO Toby Rice believes his company can further scale production capacity if demand is there.
EQT has had a stellar run over the last five years, with shares climbing nearly 234%. Trading at a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 13.5, it is priced for steady growth ahead.
2. Hitachi
There's also no guarantee that Japanese conglomerate Hitachi (OTC: HTHIY) will be involved in this project. What we do know is that it has made its interest in being involved in projects of this type known, and it already is working on U.S. projects. In September 2025, it announced a $1 billion investment through a wholly owned subsidiary, Hitachi Energy, to expand production of electrical grid infrastructure components in the U.S.
Hitachi Energy manufactures advanced high-voltage switchgear solutions for reliable, safe power transmission. Its general circuit breakers protect power transformers and generators. It also produces grid control and monitoring systems.
In short, Hitachi Energy's offerings are consistent with what the Ohio natural gas facility will need.
Because Hitachi is a conglomerate, its investment thesis is complex and nuanced. It currently trades at a forward P/E of 24.5, which is rich compared to the average industrial or energy company, but cheaper than is common among technology companies.
Priced like a hybrid operation, Hitachi may appeal to investors who want a stock with type of stability that infrastructure operations offer, but also exposure to some of the upside potential of the AI megatrend.

Shares of Lam Research have outperformed the Zacks Electronics - Semiconductors industry over the past six months (+140.9% vs. +25.5%). The company is riding on its strength across 3D DRAM and advanced packaging technologies. Growing etch and deposition intensity owing to increasing technology inflections in 3D architectures is a plus.
A rebound in the System business due to improving memory spending is an upside. Strategic investments in research and development activities position it well to capitalize on the growing wafer fab equipment (WFE) spending. However, refinancing risk looms over a $184 million facility due in April 2026, raising going concern doubts. High leverage and thin equity limit flexibility. Legal liabilities and customer concentration add further risks. Valuation appears modest at 4.12X EV/sales.
