The Family Dollar segment operates general merchandise retail discount stores that offer consumable merchandise, which comprise food and beverages, tobacco, health and personal care, household chemicals, paper products, hardware and automotive supplies, diapers, batteries, and pet food and supplies; and home products, including housewares, home décor, and giftware, as well as domestics, such as comforters, sheets, and towels. It also provides apparel and accessories merchandise comprising clothing, fashion accessories, and shoes; and seasonal and electronics merchandise that include Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and Valentine's Day merchandise, as well as personal electronics, which comprise pre-paid cellular phones and services, stationery and school supplies, and toys. Dollar Tree, Inc. was founded in 1986 and is based in Chesapeake, Virginia.

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Monday closed up +1.01%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) closed up +0.83%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed up +1.13%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) rose +1.04%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) rose +1.15%.
Stocks settled sharply higher on Monday, supported by lower crude oil prices and falling bond yields. Crude prices fell more than -5% after several oil tankers managed to move through the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend, raising hopes that the waterway could soon reopen. India is attempting to get six other vessels through the strait, while a number of other countries are trying back channels to Iran to ensure safe passage for their ships. The slump in crude prices has knocked the 10-year T-note yield down -6 bp on Monday to 4.22%.

The war with Iran is in its seventeenth day with no end in sight. The US hit military sites over the weekend on Kharg Island, from which Iran exports almost all of its oil. Meanwhile, Iran launched fresh attacks across the Persian Gulf, disrupting shipments at a key United Arab Emirates oil hub and halting flights at Dubai’s airport.
President Trump said the US is talking to Tehran but that he’s not sure if the Iranians are “ready.” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Iran hadn’t asked for talks or a ceasefire. President Trump said that he is “demanding” that other countries contribute to the defense of the Strait of Hormuz and that NATO would face a “very bad” future if member states failed to help in Hormuz.
Crude oil prices remain high despite attempts to boost global supplies. The IEA last Wednesday released 400 million barrels from emergency oil stockpiles and said the war against Iran is disrupting 7.5% of global oil supply, and the conflict will cut global oil supply by 8 million bpd this month. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas flows, has choked off oil and gas flows due to Iran’s attacks on shipping in the waterway and forced Gulf producers to cut output because they can’t export from the region. Goldman Sachs warns that crude prices could exceed the 2008 record high of close to $150 a barrel if flows through the Strait of Hormuz remain depressed through March.
Monday’s US economic news was mixed for stocks. On the positive side, Feb manufacturing production rose +0.2% m/m, slightly stronger than expectations of +0.1% m/m, and Jan manufacturing production was revised upward to +0.8% m/m from the previously reported +0.6% m/m. Also, the Mar NAHB housing market index rose +1 to 38, stronger than the expectations of 37. Conversely, the Feb Empire manufacturing survey of general business conditions fell -7.3 points to -0.2, weaker than expectations of 3.9.
Economic news from China was mixed for global growth prospects. On the positive side, China's Feb industrial production rose +6.3% year-to-date y/y, stronger than expectations of +5.3%. Also, China's Feb retail sales rose +2.8% year-to-date y/y, stronger than expectations of +2.5%. Conversely, the China Feb surveyed jobless rate rose +0.2 to 5.3%, showing a weaker labor market than expectations of 5.1%. Also, China's Feb new home prices fell -0.28% m/m, marking the 33rd consecutive month home prices have declined.
The markets are discounting a 1% chance for a -25 bp FOMC rate cut at the Tue/Wed policy meeting.
Overseas stock markets settled mixed on Monday. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed up +0.39%. China's Shanghai Composite fell to a 6-week low and closed down -0.26%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -0.13%.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) on Monday closed up by +15.5 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield fell -5.7 bp to 4.220%. T-note prices are garnering support from lower crude oil prices, which are down by more than -4% today, easing inflationary fears. Also, concerns that the recent surge in crude prices to a 3.75-year high will weigh on global economic growth prospects are supportive for T-notes. Monday’s US economic news was mixed for T-note prices after the Feb Empire manufacturing survey general business conditions index fell more than expected, but Feb manufacturing production and the Mar NAHB housing market index rose more than expected.
European government bond yields moved lower on Monday. The 10-year German bund yield fell -3.1 bp to 2.952%. The 10-year UK gilt yield fell -5.3 bp to 4.770%.
Swaps are discounting a 3% chance of a -25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting this Thursday.
US Stock Movers
Meta Platforms (META) closed up more than +2% to lead the Magnificent Seven technology stocks higher after Reuters reported that the company is planning layoffs that could affect 20% or more of the company. Also, Amazon.com (AMZN), Tesla (TSLA), Nvidia (NVDA), Alphabet (GOOGL), Apple (AAPL), and Microsoft (MSFT) closed up more than +1%.
Chip stocks and AI-infrastructure companies rallied on Monday, a supportive factor for the broader market. Sandisk (SNDK) closed up more than +5%, and ARM Holdings Plc (ARM) and Western Digital (WDC) closed up more than +4%. Also, Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX), Marvell Technology (MRVL), Lam Research (LRCX), and Micron Technology (MU) closed up more than +3%. In addition, Microchip Technology (MCHP) and ASML Holding NV (ASML) closed up more than +2%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks rose on Monday as Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) climbed more than +3% at a 6-week high. Strategy (MSTR) closed up more than +5% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100. Also, Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) and Coinbase Global (COIN) closed up more than +3%. In addition, Riot Platforms (RIOT) closed up more than +2%.
Airline stocks and cruise line operators rallied on Monday as crude prices sank by more than -5%, lowering fuel costs and boosting earnings prospects. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) closed up more than +5%, and United Airlines Holdings (UAL) closed up more than +4%. Also, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCL), Carnival (CCL), Delta Air Lines (DAL), and Southwest Airlines (LUV) closed up more than +3%, and American Airlines Group (AAL) and Alaska Air Group (ALK) closed up more than +1%.
Fertilizer stocks were under pressure on Monday, giving back some of last week’s sharp gains. Intrepid Potash (IPI) closed down more than -8%, and Mosaic (MOS) closed down more than -5% to lead losers in the S&P 500. Also,CF Industries Holdings (CF) closed down more than -5%.
National Storage Affiliates (NSA) closed up more than +30% after Public Storage acquired the company for about $10.5 billion, or $41.68 per share. Public Storage (PSA) is down more than -2% after news of the acquisition.
Circle Internet Group (CRCL) closed up more than +8% after Clear Street LLC upgraded the stock to buy from hold with a price target of $136.
Dollar Tree (DLTR) closed up more than +6% after the company said in a conference call that it saw an improvement in traffic in its stores in Q1 from Q4, and it’s pleased with traffic to date.
Upstart Holdings (UPST) closed up more than +5% after BTIG LLC upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $43.
CoreWeave (CRWV) closed up more than +5% after announcing a collaboration with Cerebras Systems and BCE Inc. on a 300-megawatt data center in Saskatchewan.

Stocks Settle Sharply Higher as Crude Oil Slumps

Dollar Tree, Inc. DLTR posted solid fourth-quarter fiscal 2025 results, wherein the bottom line surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate. Both metrics increased year over year. Quarterly results benefited from the sturdy execution of its strategic initiatives. The company posted its 20th straight year of positive same-store sales.
Dollar Tree’s adjusted earnings per share (EPS) from continuing operations jumped 21.3% year over year to $2.56 and beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.53.
Shares of Dollar Tree have gained more than 5% in the pre-market session after releasing its fourth-quarter fiscal 2025 results. Shares of this Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) company have gained 9.9% in the past three months compared with the industry’s 11.2% growth.
DLTR’s Quarterly Performance: Key Metrics & Insights
Net sales increased 9% year over year to $5.45 billion compared with the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $5.47 billion. Same-store sales (comps) grew 5% year over year. The company’s comps benefited from a 6.3% increase in the average ticket, partly offset by a 1.2% lower traffic.
Dollar Tree, Inc. Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise
The gross profit jumped 13.3% year over year to $2.1 billion, with a 150-basis-point (bps) gross margin expansion to 39.1%. This increase was fueled by improved mark-on from pricing actions, and reduced domestic and import freight costs, somewhat offset by increased tariff costs. We estimated a year-over-year increase of 10% in gross profit and a 40-bps expansion in the gross margin.
Selling, general and administrative (SG&A) costs were 26.9% of sales, down 10 bps from the year-earlier quarter. The decline was mainly owing to prior-year software impairments and contract termination costs, and reduced stock compensation, somewhat offset by increased store payroll aiding pricing initiatives, increased general liability claims and higher incentive compensation. On an adjusted basis, excluding strategic review costs, software impairments and termination costs, and the year-ago accelerated vesting of certain stock awards, the metric grew 170 basis points to 26.8% of total revenues.
Adjusted operating income jumped 10.7% year over year to $695 million. The operating margin rose 20 basis points to 12.8%.
DLTR’s Financial Health
Dollar Tree ended the fiscal fourth quarter with cash and cash equivalents of $717.8 million, no borrowings under its credit facilities and no commercial paper outstanding. As of Jan. 31, 2025, net merchandise inventories were $2.5 billion, down 7.4% year over year. It had a net long-term debt, excluding the current portion, of $2.43 billion and shareholders’ equity of $3.8 billion as of Jan. 31, 2026.
In fourth-quarter fiscal 2025, the company repurchased 2.2 million shares for $232 million. Dollar Tree had $1.8 billion remaining under the $2.5 billion repurchase authorization as of Jan. 31, 2026.
Dollar Tree’s Store Update
In fiscal 2025, the company opened 402 Dollar Tree stores and converted or added nearly 2,400 stores to the Dollar Tree 3.0 multi-price format, ending the year with approximately 5,300 multi-price stores. As of Jan. 31, 2026, DLTR operated 9,282 stores.
Q1 & FY26 Guidance by DLTR
The company projects net sales from continuing operations of $20.5-$20.7 billion, supported by comps growth of 3-4% compared with 4-6% mentioned earlier. Adjusted EPS from continuing operations is projected to be $6.50-$6.90, including the year-to-date share repurchase impacts. It projects approximately 400 store openings and 75 closings for the fiscal year. DLTR reported revenues of $19.4 billion and adjusted EPS of $5.75 in fiscal 2025.
For the first quarter of fiscal 2026, the company projects net sales from continuing operations between $4.9 billion and $5 billion, supported by expected comparable-store sales growth of 3-4%. Adjusted EPS is anticipated to come within the $1.45-$1.60 range.

Empire State Manufacturing -0.2 in March
For the first time since December, the Empire State Manufacturing Survey came in with a negative headline for March: -0.2. Analysts had been expecting this to come in around +3 or +4, but with Shipments falling off and Delivery Times more than tripling for the month. This is the third negative print in the past nine months, with capital spending expected to pick up somewhat in the months ahead.

But this week, we have many big players reporting earnings, even if the overall amount of companies is low. Oklo OKLO and lululemon LULU report Tuesday, Micron MU and Macy’s M highlight Wednesday, and FedEx FDX and Alibaba BABA post numbers on Thursday.
In terms of economic reports, Producer Price Index (PPI) numbers — the wholesale inflation indicator, compared with the retail Consumer Price Index (CPI) which reported last week — will come out for February. In the last print, headline year-over-year PPI was +2.9%, +3.4% on core. These are among the warmest inflation reads we’ve seen of late, and we should also keep in mind they will reflect wholesale prices prior to the U.S./Israel invasion of Iran.
Also, a new Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, as Fed Chair Jerome Powell continues the final lap of his tenure and a 100% probability that the Fed will not move from its 3.50-3.75% rate established in December of last year. One more FOMC meeting, in late April, will mark Powell’s last — assuming nominated Fed Chair Kevin Warsh gets through the current friction on Capitol Hill regarding the Fed.

These are among the warmest inflation reads we’ve seen of late, and we should also keep in mind they will reflect wholesale prices prior to the U.S./Israel invasion of Iran.
Also, a new Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, as Fed Chair Jerome Powell continues the final lap of his tenure and a 100% probability that the Fed will not move from its 3.50-3.75% rate established in December of last year. One more FOMC meeting, in late April, will mark Powell’s last — assuming nominated Fed Chair Kevin Warsh gets through the current friction on Capitol Hill regarding the Fed.

Dollar Tree Inc. Q4 Profit Climbs

Dollar General (DG) came out with quarterly earnings of $1.93 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.61 per share. This compares to earnings of $1.68 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.
This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of +19.71%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this discount retailer would post earnings of $0.92 per share when it actually produced earnings of $1.28, delivering a surprise of +39.13%.
Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates four times.
Dollar General, which belongs to the Zacks Retail - Discount Stores industry, posted revenues of $10.91 billion for the quarter ended January 2026, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.17%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $10.3 billion. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates four times over the last four quarters.
The sustainability of the stock's immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will mostly depend on management's commentary on the earnings call.

Higher oil prices: This too shall pass
If you look back at the history of oil prices, you will see that periods of rising energy prices are followed by periods in which prices are falling. Oil and natural gas are commodities driven by supply and demand, so that only makes sense. Right now, there is concern about energy supplies, and the prices of these commodities are on the rise.

If history is any guide, the geopolitical conflict will eventually end, and energy prices will retreat again. Even if the conflict lingers, energy markets will likely start to adjust by increasing supply elsewhere. So energy prices may not rise as high as some market watchers are warning. And even if they do, they probably won't remain there forever.
While some investors are rushing into energy stocks like Diamondback Energy (NASDAQ: FANG), which produces around 970 MBoe a day in the United States, to take advantage of the energy spike, that trade probably won't be as desirable for an investor who thinks long term. When the energy market returns to a more normal state, Diamondback's stock price will likely pull back just as sharply as it has risen.
The market volatility could be opening up other opportunities
Higher energy costs will ripple through the economy, likely driving inflation higher. Consumers are already concerned about a recession, which has led to budget tightening. Notably, lower-priced stores like Dollar Tree (NASDAQ: DLTR) are seeing strong sales growth, thanks at least partly to worried higher-income consumers trading down.
A recession would be bad news for consumers and investors. However, just like oil prices, the economy has always returned to normal after an economic downturn. If you think long term, a recession, which would likely be accompanied by a bear market, could be an opportunity for you to pick up stocks at bargain prices. Consider making a wishlist of stocks you would like to pick up so you are prepared to buy when everyone else is selling.
