Seemingly out of nowhere, CRO is up almost 90% during the past 30 days, and now ranks among the 20 most valuable cryptocurrencies, with a market cap of $9 billion.
The rapid ascent of the Cronos token is a direct result of the Trump administration's pro-crypto policies -- but not in the way you might expect. Let's take a closer look at what's going on with Cronos, and what it means for you as an investor.

The transformation of Trump Media into a crypto company?
When the Trump administration came into office in January, the widely held expectation was that it would help to pave the way for rapid growth within the crypto sector, primarily by reducing the regulatory hurdles that have plagued crypto for years. But nobody could have imagined that companies run or controlled by the Trump family would soon be taking positions in specific cryptocurrencies, or helping to promote the interests of certain cryptocurrency companies.
Strangely enough, that's what appears to be happening. It started with the launch of the Official Trump meme coin in January, and has gained momentum since then. Companies owned or controlled by the Trump family have launched new cryptos, invested in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, and helped to promote the interests of crypto companies viewed as being friendly to the Trump administration.
Case in point: Trump Media & Technology Group (NASDAQ: DJT), a company with Donald Trump as the majority shareholder, made headlines this summer with plans to become a Bitcoin treasury company. In other words, it plans to invest aggressively in Bitcoin at a time when its core business, the Truth Social media platform, is struggling.
Earlier this year, Trump Media & Technology Group also announced plans to launch new exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tied to specific cryptocurrencies. And it also announced the coming introduction of a new decentralized finance (DeFi) platform for Truth Social users called Truth.Fi. Yes, it seems hard to believe, but Trump Media & Technology Group is apparently transforming into a crypto company.
The latest unexpected move by Trump Media & Technology Group is to create and fund a new publicly traded company called Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, which will trade under the ticker symbol MCGA. Instead of becoming a Bitcoin treasury company like Trump Media & Technology Group, the new company will be a CRO treasury company.
Simply put, its primary purpose will be to accumulate as much Cronos as possible, as quickly as possible, using money from outside investors. According to early estimates, as much as $6.4 billion might be used to purchase CRO tokens.
Making the move even more interesting is an agreement between Trump Media and Crypto.com to invest in each other's businesses. For its part, Trump Media will buy $105 million worth of CRO for its balance sheet, while Crypto.com will buy $50 million in Trump Media stock. In theory, this should lead to the price of Trump Media increasing in value, as well as the price of CRO increasing in value.
This is how you get 90% returns in 30 days
And that's exactly why Cronos is up an eye-popping 90% during the past 30 days. The cryptocurrency appears to have the implicit support of the president himself, and is exactly the sort of bargain-priced cryptocurrency that can explode in price overnight. Even with the huge run-up in price, CRO still trades for less than $0.30.
Just keep in mind: The primary reason you would want to own CRO is if you are doing business with Crypto.com, which bills itself as "America's premier crypto trading platform." That's because CRO is the token that powers the Crypto.com blockchain ecosystem. If you have a crypto trading account with Crypto.com, then it might make sense to own CRO, so that you can take advantage of Crypto.com's full range of products and services.
Unfortunately, the most likely use for CRO right now is pure speculation. If you take a look at a long-term chart of CRO, it's possible to see this quite easily. For more than three years, the price of the CRO token stagnated. So now that the price of CRO has started to pop, the speculators are piling in.
What happens next?
Maybe I'm too skeptical, but I'm not ruling out a repeat of what happened during the previous crypto bull market rally of 2021-2022. Amid a wave of crypto euphoria in 2021, the price of CRO absolutely skyrocketed. About that time, Crypto.com was putting its name on sports arenas, and doing everything possible to promote cryptocurrency to a mainstream audience. The run-up in price seemed to make sense.
But then came the "Crypto Super Bowl" of 2022. Remember that controversial Matt Damon "Fortune Favors the Brave" Super Bowl commercial for Crypto.com? Soon after the Super Bowl, the price of Cronos tanked. From an all-time high of nearly $1, it fell all the way to $0.10.
I'm not saying the same thing is going to happen again with the Cronos token, but I have a queasy feeling. The rise in the price of CRO, after years of stagnation, almost seems to be too good to be true. Maybe it is. That's why I'm staying away for now.

Cronos is a cryptocurrency launched and maintained by Crypto.com, a crypto website and trading exchange platform. The token has seen massive gains recently following news of an expanded partnership with Trump Media and news that the company connected to President Donald Trump is making moves to launch a new cryptocurrency treasury. As of this writing, the token is up 131% over the last week of trading.

Cronos keeps soaring thanks to the Trump deal
On Tuesday, Trump Media announced that it had entered into a partnership with Yorkville Acquisition Corp. that will create a large new cryptocurrency treasury company. Yorkville Acquisition is a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) and will be merging with Crypto.com to create Trump Media Group CRO -- a new publicly traded company built around crypto holdings.
The new company will purchase roughly $1 billion worth of the Cronos token, and investors have been bidding up the coin in response to the news. At the time of the announcement, a $1 billion position represented a roughly 19% stake in Cronos.
What's next for Cronos?
In addition to its $1 billion Cronos treasury, Trump Media Group CRO will have $200 million in cash and $220 million cash-in mandatory exercise warrants as well as a credit offering worth up to $5 billion from one of Yorkville's affiliates.
Trump Media is poised to own a majority stake in Trump Media Group CRO upon the completion of the SPAC merger. While the Cronos token seems to be attracting some powerful new allies, it remains to be seen if the cryptocurrency will be able to sustain bullish momentum or lose steam if its fundamentals are unable to support recent gains.

A new Cronos accumulation company is coming
Trump Media is teaming up with Crypto.com to form a new venture that will go public through a merger with Yorkville Acquisition, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). The new entity will trade under the ticker MCGA and will acquire Cronos as a treasury asset.
The deal is structured with $1 billion in CRO tokens, $200 million in cash, $220 million in warrants, and an equity line of up to $5 billion from a Yorkville affiliate. As part of the arrangement, Trump Media will add about $100 million worth of Cronos (CRO) to its balance sheet, while Crypto.com will purchase roughly $50 million in Trump Media stock.
The deal mirrors Trump Media's earlier move to add Bitcoin to its balance sheet, a strategy popularized by Michael Saylor's Strategy. What sets this deal apart is the choice of asset: Instead of Bitcoin or Ethereum -- the typical targets thus far -- Trump Media is moving into Cronos, a far smaller altcoin.
Look for more established projects
Although the announcement sparked a surge of buying in Cronos, I'd avoid the token for now. The deal is likely to bring sharp swings in price, much like the volatility seen in Trump Media's stock. For crypto exposure, Bitcoin and Ethereum remain the safer bets.

Together, Bitcoin and Ethereum account for nearly 75% of the value of the crypto market and should be the two linchpins of any portfolio.
It's understandable why many first-time crypto investors experience sticker shock when they start thinking of investing in the crypto market. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) is now trading for almost $120,000. And Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH), the world's second-largest cryptocurrency, is now trading for more than $4,000.
However, there's an easy, no-brainer way to gain exposure to both of these top cryptocurrencies for $500 and still have some money left over. Here's how to do it.

Spot crypto ETFs
If you choose to invest directly in the crypto market, $500 will only get you about .004 BTC or .1 ETH. There's nothing wrong, of course, with holding fractional amounts of these cryptocurrencies. But there's admittedly something very satisfying about owning full amounts of anything. And that includes crypto.
Thus, one option might be to explore the new spot crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs). There are now plenty of choices for both Bitcoin and Ethereum, but most investors tend to gravitate to the spot crypto ETFs from BlackRock (NYSE: BLK). For Bitcoin, that's the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (NASDAQ: IBIT), and for Ethereum, it's the iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (NASDAQ: ETHA).
Both of these ETFs are designed to track the price performance of the underlying cryptocurrency. If Bitcoin goes up by 10%, the price of the ETF should go up 10% as well. Thus, owning these spot crypto ETFs is tantamount to owning the underlying cryptocurrency. Instead of buying them in the crypto market, you can gain access to them as easily as any other publicly traded ETF or stock.
That makes them perfect for gaining access to Bitcoin and Ethereum at dramatically reduced prices. For example, the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF is now trading for about $67, while the iShares Ethereum Trust ETF is now trading for $33. Of course, you don't have to choose the BlackRock ETFs. You could just as easily pair up Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs from other asset managers.
Putting $500 to work in crypto
If you have $500, you can very easily create a blended Bitcoin-Ethereum portfolio. The easiest way to do this is by comparing the market caps of the top cryptocurrencies to the total value of the crypto market (which is currently about $4 trillion) and using that to come up with the optimal weighting for each.
Bitcoin, with a market cap of about $2.4 trillion, accounts for almost 60% of the total market cap of crypto. Ethereum, with a market cap of $530 billion, accounts for roughly 13% of the market cap of crypto. Smaller cryptocurrencies make up the rest. For example, XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) chips in another 5%, while Solana (CRYPTO: SOL) adds another 2.5%.
Thus, if you were looking for a diversified crypto portfolio, you would likely start with a mix of 60% Bitcoin, 13% Ethereum, 5% XRP, and 2.5% Solana. From there, you can either ratchet up or down your Bitcoin and Ethereum allocations, or add in several other cryptocurrencies. Since most investors are only focused on the top cryptocurrencies, one option would be a 70% Bitcoin, 30% Ethereum blend.
It's relatively easy to achieve the desired blend with the ETFs. Of the $500, use $350 to buy about five shares of the iShares Bitcoin Trust and $140 to buy four shares of the iShares Ethereum Trust. Plus, there's $10 left over. You could easily put that to work by scooping up three XRP tokens (at a cost of roughly $10), or putting that money into dollar-pegged stablecoins while you wait for new investment opportunities.
This might sound relatively simplistic, and to a certain degree, it is. But it's also the same strategy that diversified crypto ETFs are using today. For example, Trump Media & Technology Group (NASDAQ: DJT) plans to launch a new crypto ETF -- the Truth Social Crypto Blue Chip ETF -- that includes a mix of different cryptocurrencies. The desired mix is 70% Bitcoin, 15% Ethereum, 8% Solana, and 2% XRP.
Buy and hold for decades
The best part about a crypto ETF strategy is that you can buy and hold Bitcoin and Ethereum for decades. In contrast, if you start moving money into riskier, more speculative cryptocurrencies, you likely won't be holding them for long.
For first-time crypto investors, I can't think of a better approach than to focus on just Bitcoin and Ethereum, and use low-cost ETFs to get exposure to them. Depending on your overall risk tolerance, your desired blend might change, but it's safe to say that Bitcoin should account for the lion's share of your total crypto exposure.

While Bitcoin's upward ascent might seem inevitable to many, there was actually a period in April when the cryptocurrency's price trajectory was very much in doubt. Bitcoin fell from a (then) all-time high of $110,000 to nearly $70,000. It has now fully recovered, and appears to be stronger than ever. Institutional demand
The biggest factor in Bitcoin's favor has been robust demand from institutional buyers. The easiest way to see this in action is by tracking inflows (and outflows) of the spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). During the peak of tariff uncertainty, money actually started to flow out of these ETFs, and the price of Bitcoin fell accordingly. But then, in early May, flows reversed again, with institutional investors once again placing their faith in Bitcoin.
At the same time, an entirely new source of demand has emerged: the Bitcoin treasury company. Around the world, companies are loading up on Bitcoin for their balance sheets. In the U.S., the best example is Strategy, the company formerly known as MicroStrategy. In Japan, there's Metaplanet. In Europe, there's The Blockchain Group.
What's particularly fascinating is that some companies in industries not even tangentially related to crypto appear to be abandoning their prior business models entirely as they refocus on Bitcoin. There are medical device companies buying Bitcoin. There are luxury watchmakers buying Bitcoin. There are real estate companies buying Bitcoin. And there are social media companies now buying Bitcoin.
Crypto-friendly policies
The other big factor in Bitcoin's favor has been strong support from the Trump administration. This goes far beyond just showing up at Bitcoin events in Las Vegas, or hosting crypto summits at the White House.
The Trump administration is actually starting to draft legislation for the crypto market. The first step was the debut of new stablecoin legislation. The next step will be the passage of broad crypto market legislation, clearly laying out the rules of the road for different crypto assets, similar to what already exists in Europe.
After that, it's likely that we'll see passage of new legislation that codifies the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve into law. When President Donald Trump signed the executive order in March, there was only a broad framework for how such a reserve would function. So it's important to sign into law something along the lines of the Bitcoin Act of 2025, which has already been introduced by Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyoming).
Market sentiment
The third and final piece of the puzzle is market sentiment. This has the power to move markets up or down extremely quickly. Right now, investors are buoyant. Equity markets are at all-time highs, Bitcoin is at an all-time high, and Nvidia just became the first company to hit a $4 trillion market valuation.
With all of this good news pouring in, it's easy to forget about tariffs, inflation, the national debt, or budget crises. It's easy to downplay geopolitical risk in Ukraine or the Middle East. And so the market keeps going up.
If you look at the CoinMarketCap crypto Fear and Greed Index, which measures sentiment in the crypto market, the overall sentiment has primarily been neutral since the end of April. In fact, on some days, the Fear and Greed Index was giving a reading of 50, which is exactly halfway between "extremely fearful" and "extremely greedy."
Today, with Bitcoin pushing above $120,000, the reading has suddenly flipped to 70. This pushes Bitcoin out of "neutral" territory and into "greed" territory. Investors are now lining up to buy Bitcoin.
Will Bitcoin continue its ascent?
These three factors explain why Bitcoin has regained its mojo. And they also provide a very useful framework for understanding what could power Bitcoin higher during the coming months.
The key factor here is likely market sentiment. Tariffs had been off the radar for some time, but now they're back. It looks like the "90 Deals in 90 Days" strategy has been replaced with a new "We'll send you a letter stating just how high your tariffs are going to be, and you're going to like it" strategy. Right now, Canada is staring at 35% tariffs, and Brazil is facing potential 50% tariffs.
With that in mind, I'm keeping my eye on the crypto Fear and Greed Index. As long as it remains in positive territory, Bitcoin will likely move higher. However, if the tariff situation still hasn't been resolved by the end of summer, that's when the sentiment index might reverse direction, and investors might start taking some money off the table.

3 Factors Behind Bitcoin's Latest Record High. Will This Major Cryptocurrency Continue to Rise?

The trend of corporations adopting Bitcoin as a reserve asset is growing, led by Strategy, GameStop, and Trump Media.
Cathie Wood, the head of the technology-focused investment firm ARK Invest, doesn't shy away from making big bets and bold predictions. She is a vocal backer of Tesla, making it clear that she sees its robotaxi and robotics businesses changing the world -- and making trillions of dollars doing it.
Her predictions in the crypto market are just as bold, none more so than her Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) price target. Wood is a huge proponent of the digital coin -- and crypto more generally -- and was one of the more influential figures in getting spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds approved.

During that process, she said that her firm believed that the token could be worth as much as $1.5 million by the end of the decade. (Her base-case target was $600,000, still not a bad return.)
More recently, she said that she believes that the upper target could be as high as $3.8 million by 2030. That's a roughly 3,260% return from today's price and represents a more than a 100% annual return.
The core of Wood's thesis
The upper boundary of her prediction is substantial, to say the least. So, where does she see this price appreciation coming from? There are a few catalysts, but her main argument is that increased institutional adoption will drive the bulk of it.
Her math is reasonably simple: If institutional investors allocate, on average, 5% of their portfolios, it would be enough for Bitcoin to reach those enormous heights. That may not seem like much, but 5% of all institutional money is a huge amount of capital, and it represents a significant uptick from where we are now. While it's true we are trending in that direction, there is a long way to go.
Corporate adoption
An interesting trend lately has been the corporate adoption of Bitcoin as a reserve asset. This was pioneered by Michael Saylor and his aptly named Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy).
The company has pursued an extremely aggressive purchasing program and now sits on 592,100 bitcoins, valued at almost $70 billion. Other high-profile names have since followed suit, including GameStop and Trump Media & Technology Group.
Strategy's strategy is a bold one, to say the least. The company's core software business has been delivering consistent losses for some time. It is using a mix of debt and private sales of preferred shares to finance its huge buying spree.
Its most recent sale of nearly $1 billion in preferred stock (which comes with a 10% dividend) will cost the company roughly $100 million a year. That's a big expense considering its total revenue for 2024 was just $463 million. Remember: It's already operating at a loss.
I am not a fan of the tactic, and I would not recommend investing in Strategy or companies like it that are relying on buying the crypto as their core business model. I think it's reckless.
Still, these companies may be an extreme vanguard. We could soon see public companies choose to hold more-modest amounts of Bitcoin as a treasury asset.
A solid investment, but beware the hype
Cathie Wood's predictions for Bitcoin's upside are certainly headline-grabbing. Investors would do well to take them -- and others like them -- with a pretty hefty grain of salt.
There's no denying the upside potential if widespread institutional and corporate adoption accelerates. However, the reality is that most of the larger institutions (where the lion's share of all capital is managed) will remain cautious, and aggressive corporate balance-sheet allocation from public companies is likely to remain a relatively niche strategy on the whole. Still, I think Bitcoin will continue to grow, just not at the pace Wood suggests.
Investors who are nearing retirement may want to avoid crypto altogether, but for most investors, Bitcoin is a solid addition to a well-diversified portfolio.

1 Top Cryptocurrency to Buy Before It Soars 3,260%, According to Cathie Wood of ARK Invest

In the second half of the year, two major cryptocurrencies could see a significant breakout: Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) and Solana (CRYPTO: SOL). While both have sky-high valuations right now, both are worth the risk. Here's why.
Bitcoin
Bitcoin remains the top-performing cryptocurrency of the year. It's up nearly 25% in 2025 and just hit another all-time high of $118,856.

This is the most expensive Bitcoin has ever been, but analysts continue to suggest that it could almost double in value by the end of the year. The U.K. bank Standard Chartered, for example, just put a $200,000 price target on Bitcoin.
Many investors have embraced the idea of Bitcoin being digital gold, viewing it as a potential hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty. Its price plunged immediately after the announcement of President Donald Trump's tariffs on April 2 but has roared back to life. A big reason is the growing perception that the crypto might be able to weather the tariff storm better than traditional financial assets, thanks to its lack of correlation with any major asset class.
At the same time, the Bitcoin treasury company model has captured the imagination of investors. First popularized by Strategy, which now holds $65 billion worth of Bitcoin on its balance sheet, this treasury model is being emulated by a host of smaller companies, including Trump Media & Technology Group, where Trump is the largest shareholder.
The concept behind a Bitcoin treasury company is simple: Buy as much of the token as possible, as fast as possible, as cheaply as possible. So, for example, Trump Media & Technology Group recently raised $2.3 billion from investors with the full intention of putting that money to work purchasing Bitcoin.
Things get even more exciting when you consider that the U.S. government might start to purchase it as well. In March, the White House announced the creation of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve under the auspices of the Treasury Department.
While the executive order did not authorize the government to buy any new Bitcoin, it did reserve room for new purchases, as long as they could be done in a "budget neutral" way. Now that the "big, beautiful bill" is set to be enacted, I'm fully expecting some budgetary sleight-of-hand later this year, as the government explores ways to purchase the crypto.
Another cryptocurrency with a sky-high valuation is Solana, which hit a new all-time high of $294 the day Trump was inaugurated as president. But it has declined markedly in value since then and currently trades for just $163.
While the decline is worrisome, online prediction markets still give it a 22% chance of hitting a new all-time high before 2026. In other words, some investor give Solana a 1-in-5 chance of roughly doubling in value within the next five months.
A big potential catalyst is the imminent launch of spot Solana exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Right now, Bloomberg thinks that there is a 95% chance that they will be approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2025. And it now looks like the timetable for their approval has been moved up, with a decision potentially coming as early as August or September.
The problem with Solana is that it became synonymous with meme coin culture in 2024. It became the go-to platform to create, launch, and trade meme coins, and that led to a frenzy of meme coin speculation. When Trump launched his meme coin in January, for example, he did so on Solana.
Since then, however, the meme coin market has collapsed, and that has had a dramatic effect on Solana. When the entire global financial system seemed to be faltering a few months ago, the last place you wanted to put your money was a risky blockchain linked to meme coins.
However, we've seen this story before with Solana. In 2022, the price collapsed to just $10. But the following year, the crypto soared more than 900% as investors realized that concerns over its relationship with failed crypto exchange FTX, created by convicted fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried, were overblown.
I'm not saying the same thing is going to happen again, but I do think Solana is a $300 cryptocurrency.
High reward, but also high risk
Both Bitcoin and Solana are risky. Anytime you invest in a cryptocurrency, there's potential for enormous volatility. Making matters even riskier, both cryptocurrencies are coming off recent all-time highs. So, as they say, they're priced for perfection.
However, the reward outweighs the risk in both cases. I'm bullish on them over the short and long term, and confident that they have the potential to double in value before the end of the year.

Especially high volume was seen for the $300 strike call option expiring July 18, 2025, with 1,328 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 132,800 underlying shares of AMGN.
