Trump Media's last quarterly report raised some big questions
In addition to bearish momentum for the broader market stemming from the war in Iran, Trump Media stock may have also seen valuation pressures stemming from its latest quarterly report and news of a major restructuring. The company published its and full-year results on Feb. 27 and announced operating cash flow of $14.8 million last year. The performance marked a substantial improvement from its operating cash outflow of $61 million in 2024.
On the other hand, the business actually recorded revenue of just $3.7 million for the year. Meanwhile, the company posted a net loss of roughly $712 million in the period.
Trump Media ended last year with $2.5 billion in financial assets. The company still has a substantial capital base to work with, but scaling initiatives have not been encouraging -- and now the stock is poised for a significant structural shift.
In conjunction with the financial release, the company said that it was exploring the possibility of spinning off its Truth Social business into a new publicly traded company and was conducting talks in relation to the move. Truth Social was initially the core service underpinning Trump Media, but the company's focus has shifted to fintech services, cryptocurrencies, and digital assets. The company is poised to be spun off and taken public through a merger with TAE Technologies and Texas Ventures III.
What's next for Trump Media?
Trump Media has said that shares of the new company will be distributed to shareholders who are stockholders at a date preceding the conclusion of the spinoff and subsequent merger. The stock has risen 3.2% in April amid a 3.9% gain for the S&P 500 and a 4.8% gain for the Nasdaq Composite. De-escalation in the war with Iran is at the heart of the gains.
Trump Media went public in March 2024 through a merger with Digital World Acquisition -- a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). Roughly two years after the company's public debut, the company has managed to produce little in the way of sales. Now attention is once again turning to another business pivot, and future stock performance now likely hinges heavily on the company's new nuclear fusion venture.

What does Trump Media do?
Trump Media generates most of its revenue from Truth Social, which promotes itself as an uncensored, conservative-leaning alternative to mainstream social media platforms. But unlike other social media networks, Trump Media doesn't disclose Truth Social's monthly active user (MAU) count, average revenue per user, or other standard key performance metrics. According to SEO.ai, Truth Social only served 6.3 million MAUs in January 2025.
Trump Media also launched its Truth+ streaming video platform last year, but the Android version of its app has been downloaded only about 100,000 times since then. By comparison, Rumble (NASDAQ: RUM), the conservative-oriented streaming video platform, reached 52 million MAUs at the end of 2025.
Trump Media's core business is stagnant, but it's been buying Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) and Cronos (CRYPTO: CRO) tokens over the past year. It also issued its own private "TMTG" tokens, which aren't publicly traded, to its investors earlier this year. That strategy lost momentum in recent months as the broader cryptocurrency market cooled.
Could Trump Media beat the market?
Trump Media is barely generating any revenue while racking up massive losses. It's struggling to stay relevant against bigger social media platforms, and it continues to pay out high stock-based compensation, legal expenses, and soaring interest on its own debt.

With a market cap of $3.7 billion, Trump Media is still valued at more than 1,000 times its trailing sales. Rumble, which is worth $1.8 billion, trades at just four times this year's sales.
Simply put, Trump Media is a meme stock that could plunge 99% and still be considered expensive relative to its sales. So while the near-term headlines about President Trump or the company's crypto plans might fuel a few near-term spikes, I doubt Trump Media's stock will beat the market this year. Trump Media surged on big merger news
On Dec. 18, Trump Media published a press release announcing that it had entered into an arrangement to merge with TAE Technologies. The $6 billion, all-stock deal will see TAE integrated into Trump Media and was championed as creating one of the world's "first publicly traded fusion companies."
Trump Media and its TAE Technologies division are expected to begin production on their first fusion power plant this year. The acquisition and plans for growth initiatives connected to nuclear-fusion technologies represent another major pivot for the company.
While Trump Media was originally founded as a social-media company built around the Truth Social platform, the company has changed directions multiple times since its formation. The new focus on nuclear energy comes on the heels of other initiatives to foreground financial trading services, cryptocurrencies, and other offerings as growth drivers.
The acquisition of TAE is projected to close near the middle of this year. Energy demand connected to artificial intelligence (AI) looks poised to surge over the next decade, and nuclear-energy providers could see strong gains connected to the trend. The distribution is part of Trump Media's partnership with Crypto.com and is expected to see one new token distributed for each share of stock held. The news helped power bullish momentum for Trump Media's share price, and the stock is currently up roughly 5% across 2026's trading.
Thus far, Trump Media has been able to leverage its connections to President Donald Trump as a way to increase support among investors and pave the way for partnerships and expansion into new product-and-service categories. On the other hand, the company has yet to develop meaningful revenue streams -- and it remains to be seen whether the business's growth bets will pay off.
