Warner Bros. Discovery, a struggling media giant, is likely to be acquired for at least the $72 billion Netflix has offered. Warner Bros. Discovery's content, intellectual property, and franchises are worth a fortune to a company like Netflix.
Disney has an even stronger slate of franchises and media properties, including Marvel, Star Wars, and its classic characters. That intellectual property feeds the experiences business, which includes Disney's wildly profitable parks and cruise ships. In fiscal 2025, Disney's experiences segment generated $36 billion in revenue and nearly $10 billion in operating profit.
In the near term, the changing face of the media industry could pressure Disney's results as it navigates the rise of streaming and the uncertain future of the movie theater business. However, Disney has adapted before, and it will adapt again. How Disney makes money may change, but what won't change is the value of the company's incredible portfolio of content.
Disney stock trades for around 17 times fiscal 2025 earnings, and the company expects double-digit EPS growth in fiscal 2026 and fiscal 2027. Given the value of Disney's media properties and content, that valuation looks like a bargain.

SCHG, ISRG, DIS, LIN: Large Outflows Detected at ETF

The last couple of years haven't been easy for Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS) investors, like me. Shares of the iconic entertainment stock barely matched the market in 2024, only to fall short every year outside of that since 2020.
This year has been more of the same. Disney shares have risen 3% in 2025 heading into the final trading day of the year. The market has soared 17%. I know that the past few years suggest that momentum isn't on the side of the House of Mouse, but I disagree. Here are some of the reasons why I believe that Disney stock will break out and beat the market in 2026.

1. Content is king again
This past year has been a wild last dance at a Sadie Hawkins party. Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ: WBD) began the year with a market cap of $26 billion. Its value has roughly tripled as a bidding war broke out for the media stock, following an earlier bidding war for a rival platform that concluded over the summer.
Warner Bros. Discovery looks like it's going to be bought out at roughly half of Disney's enterprise value. Disney is more than twice the company that Warner Bros. Discovery will ever be. What does Disney own? The easier question is to ask what the massive empire doesn't own. It's unlikely that Disney becomes the target of a bidding war in 2026, but the value of what it owns just got a whole lot better this year.
2. Disney still owns the multiplex
Disney's studio business got off to a sleepy start in 2025. Some of the year's biggest hits, like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners, were released by other studios. Its own live-action Snow White was a box office dud. It all worked out in the end.
Outside of China's Ne Zha 2, Disney will have put out the only three movies in 2025 that would go on to top $1 billion in ticket sales worldwide. The live-action Lilo & Stitch and Zootopia 2 are already there. Avatar: Fire and Ash will outsell the two of them by the time it completes its theatrical run.
This isn't a fluke. Disney had the only three movie releases of 2024 that surpassed $1 billion apiece in global box office receipts. Expect more of the same in 2026. Disney's Avengers: Doomsday is widely predicted to be the top draw in the year ahead. Other notable Disney releases in the new year include The Mandalorian and Grogu as well as Toy Story 5. Never bet against a proven hit factory.
3. It's a small world, but it keeps getting bigger
Disney's experiences segment was expected to face a major challenge in fiscal 2025 with the springtime opening of Comcast's (NASDAQ: CMCSA) Epic Universe. Would the first major theme park to open in the U.S. -- minutes from Disney World in Florida -- leave a dent on the world's largest operator?
It doesn't seem that way. Disney's experiences segment -- helmed by its gated attractions and cruise line business -- saw its revenue and segment operating income rise 6% and 8%, respectively. The new year should be even better. Since the end of Disney's fiscal year in September, its cruise line introduced the bar-raising Disney Destiny in November. The maiden voyage for Disney Adventure -- its largest cruise ship -- is now just a couple of months away. A major expansion at its theme parks worldwide leaves Disney with a pipeline of new experiences that will be rolled out over the next few years.
4. The financials keep getting better
If you think Disney stock disappointed in 2025 because the business took a step back, think again. Disney's revenue rose a modest 3% to $94.4 billion in fiscal 2025, but the story was even better on the bottom line. Adjusted earnings per share rose 19%. Free cash flow improved 18%.
Disney's streaming business turned profitable midway through fiscal 2024. This has helped give Disney+, Hulu, and the recently launched ESPN Unlimited the flexibility to soar without impeding the overall company. Disney reinstated its dividend at the start of fiscal 2024 and has since raised it three times. Disney is back, even if the five-year chart says otherwise.
5. Disney is cheaper than you think
With so many moving parts -- led by its flagship content business that just saw a rival get bid up to 3 times what it was worth a year ago -- you would expect Disney to be richly valued. Here is where that uninspiring stock chart of the past few years starts to pay off.
Disney is trading for a reasonable 17 times this fiscal year's profit target. It's fetching a little more than 15 times next fiscal year's earnings. You can snag the global leader in entertainment at an attractive valuation, heading into a future that should include a lot of Disney consumption by the world. It's how a fairy tale ends, and this is your compelling starting line.

The most illustrious investing career of our lifetime is officially coming to a close. When the closing bell tolls on Wall Street later today, Dec. 31, 2025, it'll be the last time it does so with billionaire Warren Buffett acting in the CEO capacity for Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A)(NYSE: BRK.B) -- although he'll remain chairman of the board.
In the more than 60 years the affably named Oracle of Omaha held the reins, he's overseen a cumulative return in Berkshire's Class A shares (BRK.A) of close to 6,060,000%, as of the closing bell on Dec. 24. With regard to annualized total return, including dividends, Buffett came close to doubling the benchmark S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) since 1965.

On Jan. 1, the trillion-dollar company that Warren Buffett and now-late right-hand man Charlie Munger helped build will enter uncharted territory. While some things will stay the same with Greg Abel as Berkshire Hathaway's new CEO, certain aspects of this time-tested business are changing forever.
Few investors understood the value of time and perspective like Warren Buffett
During the Oracle of Omaha's six-decade tenure at Berkshire Hathaway, he green-lighted approximately five dozen acquisitions across a range of sectors and industries. While some of these buyouts are major contributors to Berkshire's relatively steady operating growth (e.g., insurer GEICO and railroad BNSF), it's the investment portfolio Buffett oversaw that always garnered the most attention from investors.
In the days leading up to Buffett's departure as CEO, Berkshire's investment portfolio had swelled to $316 billion in market value, spread across nearly four dozen holdings.
Like every investor who's put their money to work on Wall Street, Warren Buffett wasn't always right. He sold shares of Walt Disney far too early on two separate occasions, took his lumps with multinational grocer Tesco in the mid-2010s, and more recently whiffed with his investment in media giant Paramount (now Paramount Skydance).
But these mistakes and learning experiences were ultimately dwarfed by his unwavering focus on value, his willingness to allow his investment thesis to play out, and his ability to step back and analyze the bigger picture.
While the average holding period for stocks traded on the New York Stock Exchange plummeted from roughly eight years in the late 1950s to the equivalent of just 5.5 months by 2020, Berkshire's billionaire boss rejected the temptations of high-frequency trading and/or software algorithms. Instead, he chose to stick with his decades-long investment philosophy that great businesses (i.e., those with sustainable moats and phenomenal management teams) will excel over the long run.
The Oracle of Omaha's actions and long-term ethos didn't always align in the short term
Being patient can be challenging on the psyche of investors -- but Warren Buffett demonstrated how fruitful that patience can be.
According to rolling 20-year data from Crestmont Research, the S&P 500 has never had a rolling 20-year period where it's delivered negative total returns, including dividends. Buffett has repeatedly opined he'd never bet against America, because he astutely recognizes that the U.S. economy and major stock indexes are going to increase in value over long periods.
Occasionally, the patience Berkshire's billionaire boss has exhibited has gotten him into some hot water with shareholders. For example, he's been a net seller of stocks in each of the last 12 quarters (Oct. 1, 2022 – Sept. 30, 2025), to the cumulative tune of nearly $184 billion. All the while, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite have respectively rallied to several record-closing highs.
While some might view this as a missed opportunity for Warren Buffett, or could argue that Wall Street's most illustrious investor has lost his touch, it's par for the course with how the foundation of Berkshire Hathaway was built. Buffett emphasizes value above all else and has learned to wait for price dislocations before pouncing on perceived bargains. Amid the historically pricey stock market we have now, good deals are tough to come by.
One of the best examples of Buffett's willingness to wait for valuations to come into his wheelhouse occurred in August 2011. Berkshire's boss negotiated a deal to provide Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) with $5 billion to shore up its finances. In return, Buffett's company received $5 billion in Bank of America preferred stock, yielding 6% annually, along with warrants to buy up to 700 million common shares of BofA stock at $7.14 per share. These warrants were exercised in full six years later, yielding a then-instant profit windfall of $12 billion, which has since grown even larger.
The Greg Abel era begins for Berkshire Hathaway
Transitioning from Buffett to Abel should be seamless in some respects. Abel has been with Berkshire for the last 25 years, overseeing all of the company's non-insurance operations. This has required Berkshire's incoming CEO to become knowledgeable about several sectors and industries.
Arguably even more important from the standpoint of Berkshire Hathaway's investors, Abel shares the same value-focused, long-term ethos that Buffett and Munger championed for decades.
For example, Abel has vowed to continue Berkshire's buyback program when appropriate. Since the board of directors amended Berkshire Hathaway's share-repurchase policy in July 2018, Warren Buffett spent close to $78 billion to retire more than 12% of his company's outstanding shares. In addition to incentivizing a long-term vision, buybacks can lift earnings per share.
Furthermore, Abel played an instrumental role in facilitating Berkshire Hathaway's sizable investments in Japan's five major trading houses, commonly referred to as the sogo shosha. These five companies play a crucial role in Japan's economic success. Most importantly, they offer generous capital-return programs and trade at discounted valuations compared to historically expensive U.S. stocks.
At the same time, a Greg Abel-led Berkshire Hathaway is going to look different.
One of the biggest differences can be seen in the non-core portion of Berkshire Hathaway's $316 billion investment portfolio. While Buffett and Abel are on the same wavelength in the sense that eight companies are being viewed as "indefinite" holdings, Berkshire's smaller holdings are being more actively managed than ever before. Expect to see more $10 million to $2 billion investments from the likes of Ted Weschler, who's been assisting Buffett as an investment manager for Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio since 2012.
An Abel-led Berkshire Hathaway is also more likely to include technology and healthcare stocks as core holdings. Warren Buffett was never up to date on the latest tech innovations, and the potential need to follow clinical trial data often made healthcare stocks a no-go for the Oracle of Omaha. Abel, on the other hand, doesn't shy away from either sector.
Additionally, some of Berkshire Hathaway's current core positions may be shown the door. Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), which has been the No. 1 holding by market value for years, is no longer the bargain it once was. Although iPhone sales picked up in fiscal 2025, which ended in late September, the company's growth has otherwise been stagnant for years. Apple doesn't exactly fit the mold of what Abel typically looks for in an investment.
Berkshire Hathaway without Warren Buffett will take some getting used to. But the philosophies and foundation laid by Buffett and Munger, coupled with the similar investment approach employed by Greg Abel, should ensure the company's continued success and help it build upon its trillion-dollar valuation.

Investing Legend Warren Buffett Bids Adieu to Wall Street, While His Trillion-Dollar Company, Berkshire Hathaway, Enters a New Era

(RTTNews) - The U.S. Justice Department announced that a federal court has approved a stipulated order resolving a case against Disney Worldwide Services Inc. and Disney Entertainment Operations LLC. Under the settlement, Disney will pay $10 million in civil penalties to resolve allegations from the Federal Trade Commission that the company violated the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in connection with its YouTube video content.
COPPA prohibits online platforms from collecting, using, or disclosing personal information from children under 13 without parental notice and consent. The government's complaint alleged that Disney failed to properly designate its YouTube content as directed toward children, which led to targeted advertising and the unlawful collection of children's data. Disney's videos are among the most popular on YouTube, with billions of views in the U.S. alone.
Beyond the financial penalty, the order bars Disney from operating on YouTube in violation of COPPA and requires the company to establish a compliance program to ensure future adherence to children's privacy protections.

Roku's ROKU platform revenues are driven by advertising activities and streaming services distribution. Advertising includes video ads delivered across the Roku platform and The Roku Channel, while streaming services distribution covers revenues from Premium Subscriptions, transaction fees on content purchases and Roku-billed subscriptions. This dual revenue structure provides diversification and gives Roku multiple levers to drive platform growth.
Advertising remains the key driver of platform momentum. Roku has expanded integrations with major demand-side platforms such as Amazon DSP, Trade Desk and FreeWheel, allowing advertisers to access inventory through preferred buying channels. Programmatic transactions account for a rising share of video ad impressions, improving demand access and monetisation efficiency. Roku Ads Manager is broadening the advertiser base by attracting small and medium-sized businesses and performance marketers. Nearly 90% of advertisers using Ads Manager are new to Roku, pointing to incremental demand rather than dependence on traditional brand budgets. Video advertising growth continues to outpace the broader U.S. OTT and digital advertising markets, supporting visibility into platform revenue trends.
Streaming services distribution adds a second growth driver. Subscriptions are benefiting from improved content discovery and AI-powered recommendations that support higher conversions. Roku’s 2026 content slate is expected to strengthen The Roku Channel with originals such as Broad Trip, The Laguna Beach Reunion and The Great American Baking Show Season 2, alongside third-party titles including The Spiderwick Chronicles and Die Hart Season 3. Engagement is expected to be further supported by The Roku Sports Channel, which features MLB Sunday Leadoff, NBA G League and Formula E content. Howdy, Roku’s $2.99 ad-free subscription service with nearly 10,000 hours of content targets a value-focused audience and expands monetisation opportunities.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fourth-quarter 2025 platform revenues is pegged at $1.12 billion, indicating 14.5% year-over-year growth. With advertising execution and subscription expansion progressing together, Roku’s platform revenues appear well-positioned to support further upside.
ROKU Faces Intensifying Competition
Roku’s platform competes with Netflix NFLX and Disney DIS as both expand ad-supported streaming and subscription monetization. Netflix is scaling its ad tier alongside subscriptions, while Netflix continues to monetise viewing inside its own app. Disney follows a similar path across Disney+ and Hulu, with Disney using premium content to support ads and subscriptions. Unlike Netflix and Disney, Roku monetises viewing across apps at the platform level rather than single-service control models.

ROKU shares have risen 27.5% in the past six months, outperforming the Zacks Broadcast Radio and Television industry’s decline of 15.5% and the Zacks Consumer Discretionary sector’s plunge of 6.7%.

Comcast's Content & Experiences segment delivered notable success with Epic Universe's opening on May 22, 2025, driving theme park revenue growth of 19% to $2.35 billion in the second quarter.
The Connectivity & Platforms segment, representing approximately 68% of revenues, faces structural headwinds but provides substantial cash flow supporting growth investments. Management implemented strategic pricing pivots in mid-2025, introducing five-year price guarantees and simplified packaging to stabilize the broadband customer base. Wireless emerged as a core growth driver with 378,000 line additions in second-quarter 2025, marking the business' best quarter ever, while convergence revenues grew 2.5%, supported by mid-teens wireless growth. Disney vs. Comcast: Which Media Giant Has Better Upside Potential?

Investors in Walt Disney Co. (Symbol: DIS) saw new options become available today, for the November 2026 expiration. One of the key inputs that goes into the price an option buyer is willing to pay, is the time value, so with 326 days until expiration the newly available contracts represent a potential opportunity for sellers of puts or calls to achieve a higher premium than would be available for the contracts with a closer expiration. At Stock Options Channel, our YieldBoost formula has looked up and down the DIS options chain for the new November 2026 contracts and identified one put and one call contract of particular interest.
The put contract at the $80.00 strike price has a current bid of $1.53. If an investor was to sell-to-open that put contract, they are committing to purchase the stock at $80.00, but will also collect the premium, putting the cost basis of the shares at $78.47 (before broker commissions). To an investor already interested in purchasing shares of DIS, that could represent an attractive alternative to paying $113.97/share today.

Walt Disney has a much larger collection of revenue-producing assets across the entertainment realm, however.
IMAX (NYSE: IMAX) will find it hard to top 2025. During the year, the large-format movie theater technology company broke several of its records, including those for total box office take. This is impressive, but to me, Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS) has a better business model, a brighter future, and is the superior entertainment stock for investors.
Growing audiences
Nevertheless, of the two stocks, it's IMAX that is currently more favored by Mr. Market. It finished 2025 by reporting that a splashy new release, Avatar: Fire and Ash, clocked in at the company's fifth-best opening (in terms of ticket sales) in its history. It also happened to be the widest IMAX release ever, at 1,703 screens.

Meanwhile, the company's fundamentals are heading in the right direction. Its third-quarter revenue set a new all-time record for that period, rising by a sturdy 17% to almost $107 million. Not to be outdone, net income not according to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) leaped by 39% to top $26 million. Both line items beat the consensus analyst estimates.
Next to a whirlwind like IMAX, Disney probably looks a little staid to some investors. It's also coming off a lean period where it didn't perform all that impressively.
There has been a rebound since. The company's streaming services, anchored by Disney+, finally achieved profitability in 2024. Zooming out, the top line is rising thanks to the contribution of the company's many revenue streams (theme parks, films, branded merchandise, etc.).
Disney published its fiscal 2025 results in November, revealing that revenue grew by 3% over the previous year to over $94 billion, as all three reporting segments (entertainment, sports, and experiences) posted increases. All managed to raise their operating income more robustly, resulting in an overall GAAP net profit surge of nearly 58% to $12 billion.
The future looks promising too, as Disney is guiding for the highest-revenue segment (entertainment) to improve its operating income at a double-digit percentage rate across fiscal 2026. That for sports and experiences should only gain in the single-digit percentages, but any level of growth is welcome.
A clear champion
To boil this down, Disney is a well-established entertainment giant with a great many intellectual property assets that have been monetized through its films, TV shows, theme park rides, merchandise, and other ventures. Its revenue sources are many and varied, and the bottom line has been well in the black of late.
While IMAX has, admirably, broadened its business beyond the multiplex, it's still susceptible to shifts in movie-going trends. It also doesn't have the size, scope, and reach of Disney.
Additionally, Disney is clearly the better buy on key valuation metrics. Given its massive collection of assets, it actually trades at a reasonable price-to-book ratio of 1.84, while its price-to-sales ratio on that towering pile of revenue is below 2.2; both compare very favorably to IMAX's 5.8 and 5.5, respectively. And on forward P/E, Disney also wins, at 17 versus 22.
I do like IMAX, as it's a well-managed company with a promising future. But it isn't Disney, the once and future king of many entertainment realms, and as such I'd unhesitatingly recommend buying the Mouse rather than the big-screen specialist.
