CVS Health Corporation provides health solutions in the United States. It operates through Health Care Benefits, Health Services, and Pharmacy & Consumer Wellness segments. The Health Care Benefits segment offers traditional, voluntary, and consumer-directed health insurance products and related services. It serves employer groups, individuals, college students, part-time and hourly workers, health plans, health care providers, governmental units, government-sponsored plans, labor groups, and expatriates. The Health Services segment offers pharmacy benefit management solutions, including plan design and administration, formulary management, retail pharmacy network management, specialty and mail order pharmacy, clinical, disease management, and medical spend management services. It serves employers, insurance companies, unions, government employee groups, health plans, prescription drug plans, Medicaid managed care plans, CMS, plans offered on public health insurance, and other sponsors of health benefit plans. The Pharmacy & Consumer Wellness segment sells prescription and over-the-counter drugs, consumer health and beauty products, and personal care products. This segment also distributes prescription drugs; and provides related pharmacy consulting and other ancillary services to care facilities and other care settings. It operates online retail pharmacy websites, LTC pharmacies and on-site pharmacies, retail specialty pharmacy stores, compounding pharmacies and branches for infusion and enteral nutrition services. The company was formerly known as CVS Caremark Corporation and changed its name to CVS Health Corporation in September 2014. CVS Health Corporation was incorporated in 1996 and is headquartered in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

CVS Health looks like a large and profitable business, but its valuation no longer appears cheap against the backdrop of weak profitability and elevated debt load. The picture across valuation multiples is mixed: P/S and P/FCF are noticeably below the industry median, which supports the idea of undervaluation on revenue and cash flow, however P/E is above the median, meaning the market is no longer paying that little for current earnings. The recent trend in P/E has improved sharply from extremely high levels, but that decline itself is more likely to reflect earnings normalization than a clear improvement in business quality. P/B is also below the industry level, which supports the valuation case, but this advantage is limited by the fact that ROE and ROA remain weak. Profitability is the main constraint: ROE, ROA and ROI are significantly below the industry median, while operating and net margins remain very thin for a business of this revenue scale. At the same time, gross margin has remained stable at around 45%, which points to acceptable underlying economics, but a substantial portion of gross profit is absorbed by expenses and financial burden. Debt-to-equity is above the industry median, while the current and quick ratios are below 1, indicating limited balance sheet cushion. On the other hand, the absolute scale of the business is strong: revenue exceeds $100 billion, EBITDA and operating income have recovered, and net income remains positive and meaningful. The trend in earnings and operating income by year looks better than it did a few quarters ago, reducing the risk of further valuation deterioration. However, the dividend yield has declined compared with last year, so the dividend argument for re-rating is weaker now. Overall, the fundamentals send a rather moderately negative signal for the target price: the business is large and cash-generative, but the quality of capital returns, liquidity, and debt burden do not justify an aggressive upward revision to the forecast. For an investor, this is not a story of strong valuation expansion, but rather one of cautious holding, with a focus on margin recovery and debt reduction as the key conditions for a higher target.

Stock indexes are mostly lower today, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling to a 5-week low. The broader market is under pressure for a second day amid mounting inflation risks. WTI crude oil prices are up more than +2% today to a 3.25-month high amid escalating hostilities in the Middle East, heightening concerns about energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz. The surge in energy prices is boosting inflation expectations and pushing bond yields higher. The 10-year T-note yield rose to 4.82% today, the highest in 2.75 years. The higher bond yields are weighing on stocks.

On the positive side, strength in chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks is supporting the Nasdaq 100 index. Energy producers are also climbing today on the strength in crude oil prices.
Also, an escalating trade war between the US and Canada is weighing on market sentiment. On Tuesday, Canada imposed tariffs of 15% to 50% on hundreds of US goods in retaliation for the US action last month to impose 50% tariffs on $20 billion of imports from Canada. The US responded by moving to block imports of some Canadian products and slapping new tariffs on others, as well as seeking to bar Canadian companies from selling to US government contractors.
US MBA mortgage applications fell -2.7% in the week ended September 4, with the purchase mortgage sub-index down -0.2% and the refinancing mortgage sub-index down -6.2%. The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rose +6 bp to a 14-month high of 6.85% from 6.79% in the prior week.
Oct WTI crude oil prices (CLV26) are up more than +2% today at a 3.25-month high due to the latest escalation of hostilities in the Middle East. The US destroyed five Iranian tankers carrying crude in response to two attempts by Iran to hit US Navy ships with ballistic missiles. Iran responded by firing missiles at a US air base in Jordan and warning ships in the Persian Gulf that they would be attacked.
The markets are discounting a 64% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on September 15-16.
Overseas stock markets are mixed today. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell to a 5-week low and is down -1.61%. China's Shanghai Composite closed up +0.28%. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average closed down -0.19%.
Interest Rates
December 10-year T-notes (ZNZ6) are down by -3 ticks today. The 10-year T-note yield is up +0.8 bp to 4.810%. T-notes fell to a 2.75-year nearest-futures low today, and the 10-year T-note yield rose to a 2.75-year high of 4.816%. T-notes are under pressure from higher crude oil prices, which are boosting inflation expectations, as WTI crude oil is up more than +2% to a 3.25-month high. Supply pressures are also weighing on T-note prices as the Treasury will auction $39 billion in 10-year T-notes later today.
European government bond yields are moving higher today. The 10-year German bund yield climbed to a new 15-year high of 3.423% and is up +5.0 bp to 3.416%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is up +5.1 bp to 5.225%.
French July manufacturing production unexpectedly fell -0.8% m/m, weaker than expectations of a +0.4% m/m increase.
Markets are discounting a 100% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on September 10.
US Stock Movers
Weakness in health insurance stocks is weighing on the broader market today. UnitedHealth Group (UNH)is down more than -5% to lead losers in the Dow Jones Industrials, and Centene (CNC) is down more than -4%. Also, Humana (HUM) and Molina Healthcare (MOH) are down more than -3%, and CVS Health Corp (CVS) and Elevance Health (ELV) are down more than -2%. In addition, Cigna Group (CI) is down more than -1%.
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks are moving higher today, a positive factor for the overall market. Marvell Technology (MRVL) is up more than +5% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100. Also, ARM Holdings (ARM) is up more than +4%, and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Micron Technology (MU), and SanDisk (SNDK) are up more than +3%., In addition, Western Digital (WDC) is up more than +2%, and Qualcomm (QCOM) is up more than +1%.
Energy producers and service providers are moving higher today, with WTI crude up more than +2% at a 3.25-month high. APA Corp (APA), Baker Hughes (BKR), Diamondback Energy (FANG), ExxonMobil Holdings (XOM), Halliburton (HAL), Marathon Petroleum (MPC), Occidental Petroleum (OXY), and SLB Ltd (SLB) are up more than +2%, and Chevron (CVX) is up more than +2% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials. Also, ConocoPhillips (COP) and Devon Energy (DVN) are up more than +1%.
ServiceTitan (TTAN) is down more than -19% after reporting a Q2 EPS loss of -26 cents, a bigger loss than the consensus of -25 cents.
Casy’s General Stores (CASY) is down more than -17% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after reporting a Q1 gross margin of 21.8%, below the consensus of 22.3%.
Chewy (CHWY) is down more than -7% after forecasting a sequential decline in Q3 gross margin, due to a timing shift as certain rebate benefits shifted from the second half of the year into Q2.
Smithfield Foods (SFD) is down more than -6% after cutting its Q3 earnings outlook, citing “continued compression in the industry fresh pork market spread and lower hog prices.”
Booking Holdings (BKNG) is down more than -4% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100 after losing an EU court fight over its takeover of Sweden’s Etraveli Group, when a judge said regulators were right to conclude that the planned buyout threatened fair competition.
Dyne Therapeutics (DYN) is down more than -3% after JPMorgan Chase downgraded the stock to underweight from neutral with a price target of $10.
Chime Financial (CHYM) is up more than +7% after boosting its full-year revenue forecast to $2.76 billion to $2.77 billion from a previous forecast of $2.73 billion to $2.75 billion, stronger than the consensus of $2.74 billion.
Meta Platforms (META) is up more than +5% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 after analysts reported positive reviews of the company’s debut of Muse, an AI assistant.

The company's financial results suffered as sales of coronavirus-related products (such as diagnostic tests) declined, while expenses in its insurance business rose substantially, resulting in lower profits and margins. However, CVS Health has done a good job of addressing those problems, and the stock has rebounded. Shares are up 31% over the past 12 months. Wall Street thinks there may be even more upside on the horizon. CVS Health's average price target is $116.04 (according to Yahoo! Finance), implying a meaningful 20% upside from current levels. Recent financial results paint a bright picture
Over the past 18 months (or so), CVS Health has implemented several initiatives that have helped improve its business. For instance, the company closed dozens of stores, many of which were unprofitable. The pharmacy chain specialist also scaled back its insurance division, notably by exiting the Affordable Care Act marketplace. The results have been pretty impressive. Consider the company's second-quarter results. CVS Health's revenue increased by a healthy 7.3% year over year to $106.1 billion.
Adjusted earnings per share were $2.58, 42.5% higher than the year-ago period. Note the improvement in CVS Health's healthcare benefits segment, which offers health insurance services. Operating expenses as a percentage of revenue declined slightly to 12.4%, down from 12.5% in the prior-year quarter, even as revenue grew 3.5% year over year. And operating margins within this unit came in at 5.8%, up from the 2.8% reported in the year-ago period. Also, CVS Health's medical benefits ratio -- the percentage of insurance premiums the company spent on medical care (the lower the better) -- declined to 87.4% in the second quarter, down from 89.9% in Q2 2025.
CVS Health also increased its guidance for the full fiscal year 2026. The company now expects its adjusted EPS to fall between $7.90 and $8.10, up from its previous range of between $7.30 to $7.50. The company is also now projecting cash flow from operations of at least $11.5 billion, up from the previous lower bound of $9.5 billion. These are signs of a much-improved business.
CVS Health pounces on a new opportunity
CVS's disciplined cost control and large, diversified healthcare offerings could power solid revenue and earnings growth over the medium term. It's also worth noting that the company is positioning itself to capitalize on a key growth driver: the rapidly expanding weight-loss market. Insurance coverage for GLP-1 weight loss medicines such as Zepbound, Wegovy, and Foundayo has been lacking. As a result, some patients who want these therapies haven't been able to access them.
CVS Health is making it easier for them to do so. The company offers low-cost consultations with licensed healthcare professionals for GLP-1 prescriptions, along with access to all medicines in this niche that are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Further, CVS Health offers coaching (still with professionals) as patients go through their weight-loss journeys, along with over-the-counter products to manage side effects.
These initiatives could meaningfully impact the company's revenue, and it's important to highlight just how massive this opportunity could be. According to some analysts, the weight loss market will reach $150 billion by 2035 -- it was worth just $15 billion in 2024. Over the next few years, more medicines will enter the field, and perhaps insurance coverage will evolve as more data come in on the benefits of these drugs. CVS Health is well-positioned to capitalize on this opportunity through its pharmacy and insurance divisions.
CVS Health's vertically integrated healthcare model, popular brand name, and large ecosystem of patients who rely on it for their prescriptions are important assets that have allowed it to keep costs under control in recent years while positioning it well to profit from the weight-loss market's growth. And these are all qualities that make the stock an attractive long-term bet, even before we mention its attractive dividend program: CVS Health offers a forward yield of 2.8%, versus the S&P 500's average of 1.1%. In short, Wall Street's optimism is well-founded: CVS Health is an attractive stock to buy.

Wall Street Loves CVS Health Stock Right Now. Should You?

CVS Health CVS is executing a multi-year plan to restore Aetna, its insurance business, to target margins. The strategy focuses on disciplined pricing, better medical cost management, clinical programs and operational improvements. The benefits became more visible in the first half of 2026. Health Care Benefits adjusted operating income increased more than $2 billion year over year. In the second quarter, the medical benefit ratio (MBR) improved to 87.4% from 89.9% a year earlier.
The company raised its 2026 Health Care Benefits adjusted operating income outlook to $5.03-$5.37 billion. This is more than $1 billion above its previous guidance. The company now expects a full-year MBR of about 89.75%, within a range of 89.5-90.0%. Aetna’s profitability is expected to improve further over the next couple of years as the business moves toward its target margins.
Operational initiatives are also supporting the recovery. Aetna’s Claims Assist Manager is designed to reduce processing time for complex manually reviewed claims by more than 20%. CVS is also expanding its Aetna Clinical Collaboration program to improve coordination with healthcare providers. These efforts should help CVS rebuild Aetna’s profitability while strengthening member and provider engagement.
Peer Update
McKesson MCK continues to expand its community-based specialty platform through the U.S. Oncology Network and related assets. In first-quarter fiscal 2027, Oncology & Multispecialty revenues increased 33% and adjusted operating profit rose 41%. Prescription Technology Solutions continues to benefit from demand for access and affordability programs across therapeutic categories. McKesson also began supporting the CMS Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program, where 95% of submitted prior authorization requests receive a determination within 30 minutes.
Align Technology ALGN continues to broaden the clinical reach of the Invisalign portfolio beyond traditional adult and teen alignment. The Invisalign Palatal Expander, Invisalign First and Invisalign with Mandibular Advancement featuring Occlusal Blocks expand treatment options for growing patients and more complex cases. In the second quarter, teen and growing-patient treatment starts increased 7.2% year over year to 240,000 cases.
Align is also extending the portfolio through DSP touch-up cases, patient-specific financing options and products with fewer or no additional aligners.
CVS’ Price Performance, Valuation and Estimates
Over the past three months, CVS Health shares have risen 0.8% compared with the industry’s 11.9% growth.

Vaccinations are available for eligible patients based on state regulations, with MinuteClinic offering vaccines for individuals as young as 18 months. Pharmacists and providers are available to answer questions and guide patients in making informed decisions based on their health needs.
Appointments can be scheduled seven days a week, including evenings and weekends, with options for families and caregivers to book up to four people at once. Patients may also receive multiple recommended vaccines during a single visit, including flu and RSV shots.
For uninsured patients, costs vary depending on product type and eligibility, while CVS continues to monitor vaccination requirements in states such as Arizona, Louisiana, and Oregon.
CVS Health, which operates approximately 9,000 retail pharmacy locations and more than 1,000 walk-in and primary care clinics, said the initiative reflects its broader mission to simplify healthcare access and improve outcomes through integrated, technology-driven services.
This rollout marks another step in expanding preventive care nationwide, ensuring updated COVID-19 protection is available to millions of Americans ahead of the 2026-2027 season.
CVS has traded between $69.51 and $110.68 over the past year. The stock closed Thursday's trading at $97.20, down 0.03%. During the overnight trading session, the stock is at $97.72, up 0.53%.

CVS Health Expands Access To Updated COVID-19 Vaccines Nationwide

CVS Health CVS maintained a strong balance sheet throughout the first half of 2026, supported by robust cash generation and disciplined capital deployment.
The company has generated approximately $10.6 billion in operating cash flow year to date, reflecting strong earnings and improvements in working capital. It ended the second quarter with roughly $2.7 billion of cash at the parent company and unrestricted subsidiaries. The company reported a leverage ratio of approximately 3.5 times in the second quarter and expects the ratio to improve further as it executes against its 2026 outlook. CVS raised its full-year operating cash flow outlook to at least $11.5 billion, providing additional capacity to reduce leverage and strengthen financial flexibility.
CVS also remains committed to shareholder returns, having distributed more than $1.7 billion through dividends year to date. However, the company is maintaining a cautious approach toward share repurchases. Its current 2026 outlook assumes no share buybacks, with additional capital deployment opportunities to be evaluated as leverage improves.
This trend extends into 2027, with repurchases assumed to be limited to offsetting share dilution rather than supporting incremental buybacks. This suggests that balance-sheet improvement remains a near-term capital allocation priority.

With no debt on Align Technology’s ALGN balance sheet, it looks quite comfortable from the liquidity point of view. The company’s cash and cash equivalents totaled $1.10 billion at the end of second-quarter 2026. Second-quarter operating cash flow totaled $192.8 million, while free cash flow was $157.1 million after $35.7 million of capital expenditures. ALGN repurchased about 393,400 shares for $67 million during the quarter at an average price of $169.45. As of June 30, $733.3 million remained under the $1 billion authorization announced in April 2025.
Cardinal Health CAH ended fiscal 2026 with $4.9 billion of cash and $5.0 billion of adjusted free cash flow. The company repurchased about $1.4 billion of shares during the year and received a $5.0 billion increase to its repurchase authorization. This liquidity supports ongoing investment, tuck-in acquisitions and shareholder returns while preserving financial flexibility.

Tuesday’s global bond sell-off pushed bond yields to multi-year highs and undercut stocks. The UK 10-year Gilt yield soared to an 18-year high of 5.25%, the German 10-year Bund yield jumped to a 15-year high of 3.36%, the Japanese 10-year JGB bond yield surged to a 30-year high of 3.00%, and the 10-year T-note yield rose to a 1.75-year high of 4.80%.
Stocks maintained their losses on Tuesday amid weaker-than-expected US economic news, including Aug ISM manufacturing, July construction spending, and July JOLTS job openings.
The US Aug ISM manufacturing index fell -1.0 to 54.6, weaker than expectations of 55.2. The Aug ISM prices paid sub-index was unchanged at 71.1, stronger than expectations of a decline to 70.8.
US July construction spending fell by -0.5% m/m, weaker than expectations of no change.
The US July JOLTS job openings unexpectedly rose +89,000 to 7.271 million from a downward-revised 7.182 million in June, weaker than expectations of 7.313 million.
Hawkish comments on Tuesday from Fed Governor Michael Barr were bearish for stocks and bonds when he said, "If inflation appears not to be moderating sufficiently, then I think we should act decisively to raise interest rates."
Oct WTI crude oil prices (CLV26) surged more than +5% on Tuesday to a 6-week high as Middle East hostilities escalated. Late Monday, two oil supertankers were struck by projectiles while attempting to exit the Strait of Hormuz. Also on Monday, the US struck Iranian rocket launchers preparing to send mines into the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran retaliated by firing missiles and drones at US air bases in Jordan, while the United Arab Emirates said it intercepted drones from Iran.
Crude prices raced to their highs Tuesday afternoon when the US launched a fresh wave of strikes against targets in Iran in retaliation for Iran trying to put mines in the Strait of Hormuz and for earlier strikes on a US military base in Jordan. Iran said it retaliated with a “decisive operation” against US bases in the Middle East.
Q2 earnings results are a bullish factor for stocks. The S&P 500 is tracking for earnings growth of almost 32% in Q2, well above projections of +23%, and nearly four times the average earnings growth rate outside of the Covid period since Q4 of 2013, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. Interest Rates
December 10-year T-notes (ZNZ6) closed down by -9 ticks on Tuesday. The 10-year T-note yield rose +4.2 bp to 4.792%. T-notes dropped to a 1.75-year nearest-futures low on Tuesday, and the 10-year T-note yield rose to a 1.75-year high of 4.798%. T-notes were under pressure from Tuesday’s +5% surge in WTI crude oil prices to a 6-week high, which boosted inflation expectations and is hawkish for Fed policy. The 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 1.5-week high of 2.360% on Tuesday. T-notes are also being pressured by negative carryover from last Friday, when hawkish comments from Fed Chair Warsh pushed the chances of a Fed rate hike at next month’s FOMC meeting up to 69% on Tuesday from 36% before he spoke.
Losses in T-notes were limited on Tuesday amid weaker-than-expected US economic news on Aug ISM manufacturing, July construction spending, and July JOLTS job openings that sparked some short covering in T-notes.
European government bond yields moved higher on Tuesday. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 15-year high of 3.364% and finished up +2.0 bp to 3.344%. The 10-year UK gilt yield surged to an 18-year high of 5.250% and finished up +15.7 bp to 5.220%.
The Eurozone Aug CPI rose +3.3% y/y, in line with expectations and the largest increase in nearly 3 years. Aug core CPI rose +2.4% y/y, weaker than expectations of +2.5% y/y.
The Eurozone July unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.4%, showing a slightly weaker labor market than expectations of 6.3%.
The Eurozone Aug S&P manufacturing PMI was revised downward by -0.1 to 52.7 from the previously reported 52.8.
German July retail sales unexpectedly fell by -3.4% m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.5% m/m and the biggest decline in 5 years.
ECB Governing Council member Martin Kocher said, "Upside risks to inflation have increased again recently. If this picture is confirmed in the ECB's new forecast, I believe another interest rate hike will be necessary in the near future."
The UK Aug S&P manufacturing PMI was revised upward by +0.2 to 51.7 from the previously reported 51.5.
Markets are discounting a 99% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on September 10.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks retreated on Tuesday amid the surge in bond yields. Lam Research (LRCX), Applied Materials (AMAT), KLA Corp (KLAC), ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), and Texas Instruments (TXN) closed down more than -3%. Also, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Microchip Technology (MCHP), ASML Holding NV (ASML), Micron Technology (MU), Analog Devices (ADI), and Qualcomm (QCOM) closed down more than -2%.
Cybersecurity stocks sold off on Tuesday, weighing on the broader market. CrowdStrike Holdings (CRWD) closed down more than -7%, and Cloudflare (NET) and SentinelOne (S) closed down more than -6%. Also, Palo Alto Networks (PANW), Fortinet (FTNT), and Zscaler (ZS) closed down more than -5%, and Okta (OKTA) closed down more than +4%.
Cryptocurrency stocks moved lower on Tuesday after Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) fell more than -2%. Circle Internet Group (CRCL), Strategy (MSTR), Riot Platforms (RIOT), and Coinbase Global (COIN) closed down more than -6%. Overseas stock markets are lower today. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell to a 1-month low and is down -0.61%. China's Shanghai Composite fell from a 7-week high and closed down -0.16%. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average closed down -0.15%.
Interest Rates
December 10-year T-notes (ZNZ6) are down -7 ticks today. The 10-year T-note yield is up +3.2 bp to 4.782%. T-notes dropped to a 1.75-year nearest-futures low today, and the 10-year T-note yield rose to a 1.75-year high of 4.796%. T-notes are under pressure from today’s +2% jump in WTI crude oil prices to a 6-week high, which boosts inflation expectations and is hawkish for Fed policy. T-notes are also being pressured by negative carryover from last Friday, when hawkish comments from Fed Chair Warsh pushed the chances of a Fed rate hike at next month’s FOMC meeting up to 65% today from 36% before he spoke.
European government bond yields are moving higher today. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 15-year high of 3.364% and is up +1.7 bp to 3.341%. The 10-year UK gilt yield surged to an 18-year high of 5.250% and is up +15.4 bp to 5.217%.
The Eurozone Aug CPI rose +3.3% y/y, in line with expectations and the largest increase in nearly 3 years. Aug core CPI rose +2.4% y/y, weaker than expectations of +2.5% y/y.
The Eurozone July unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.4%, showing a slightly weaker labor market than expectations of 6.3%.
The Eurozone Aug S&P manufacturing PMI was revised downward by -0.1 to 52.7 from the previously reported 52.8.
German July retail sales unexpectedly fell by -3.4% m/m, weaker than expectations of +0.5% m/m and the biggest decline in 5 years.
ECB Governing Council member Martin Kocher said, "Upside risks to inflation have increased again recently. If this picture is confirmed in the ECB's new forecast, I believe another interest rate hike will be necessary in the near future."
The UK Aug S&P manufacturing PMI was revised upward by +0.2 to 51.7 from the previously reported 51.5.
Markets are discounting a 98% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on September 10.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks are retreating today amid the surge in bond yields. Qualcomm (QCOM) is down more than -4%, and Marvel Technology (MRVL) and Intel (INTC) are down more than -3%. Also, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Applied Materials (AMAT), Analog Devices (ADI), Lam Research (LRCX), Microchip Technology (MCHP), NXP Semiconductors (NXPI), Broadcom (AVGO), KLA Corp (KLAC), Micron Technology (MU), and Texas Instruments (TXN) are down more than -2%. In addition, Nvidia (NVDA) is down more than -2% to lead losers in the Dow Jones Industrials.
Mining stocks are falling today, with the slump in gold, silver, and copper prices. Hecla Mining (HL) is down more than -4%, and Coeur Mining (CDE) is down more than -3%. Also, Newmont Corp (NEM), Anglogold Ashanti (AU), Barrick Mining (B), and Freeport-McMoRan (FCX) are down more than -2%, and Southern Copper (SCCO) is down more than -1%.
Cryptocurrency stocks are sliding today, with Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) down more than -1%. Circle Internet Group (CRCL) is down more than -69%, and Coinbase Global (COIN), Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY), Strategy (MSTR), Iren Ltd (IREN), MARA Holdings (MARA), and Riot Platforms (RIOT) are down more than -5%.
Cybersecurity stocks are weaker today, weighing on the broader market. Palo Alto Networks (PANW), SentinelOne (S), and Zscaler (ZS) are down more than -3%, and , CrowdStrike Holdings (CRWD) and Cloudflare (NET) are down more than +2%. Also, Okta (OKTA) and Fortinet (FTNT) are down more than -1%.
Defensive health insurance stocks are climbing today, with the slump in the broader market. Elevance Health (ELV), Centene (CNC), Humana (HUM), Cardinal Health (CAH), and CVS Health Corp (CVS) are up more than +2%. Also, UnitedHealth Group (UNH), the Cigna Group (CI), and Molina Healthcare (MOH) are up more than +1%.
Fervo Energy (FRVO) is up more than +10% on a Wall Street Journal report that said the company has signed a deal to sell power to Alphabet’s Google.
Duolingo (DUOL) is up more than +6% after Evercore ISI upgraded the stock to outperform from in line with a price target of $210.
Howmet Aerospace (HWM) is up more than +3% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 after Citigroup said Monday’s selloff in the stock was “overblown,” and maintains its buy rating on the stock.
Medtronic Plc (MDT) is up more than +2% after reporting Q1 revenue of $9.76 billion, stronger than the consensus of $9.54 billion, and raising its 2027 organic revenue forecast to +7.25% to +7.75% from a previous forecast of +6.75% to +7.25%.

A top pick
Jefferies analyst Brian Tanquilut affirmed his buy rating on CVS with a $120 price target. For those keeping score at home, that represents 28% upside compared to Monday's closing price.
The analyst called CVS one of his top picks and the firm's top large-cap healthcare services pick. He cited recent management commentary to support the bullish call, noting it suggests earnings per share (EPS) of at least $8.44 for 2027, with the potential for additional upside. Moreover, the company's share buybacks -- which are expected to resume in late 2026 or early 2027 -- are expected to bolster the stock price.
Finally, the ongoing recovery at CVS-owned Aetna bodes well for the company's future results. Aetna has taken a disciplined approach to its Medicare Advantage bids, leading to notable margin expansion. The health insurer and managed care company has increased its operating income by more than $2 billion year over year so far in 2026, indicating that the company's thoughtful approach to pricing is bearing fruit.
There's little question that the turnaround at CVS is gaining steam, as the company has beaten Wall Street's expectations in each of the past four quarters. Moreover, when the company reported its Q2 results in early August, management significantly increased its full-year guidance. CVS's forecast now calls for adjusted EPS of $8.00, representing 19% growth at the midpoint of its guidance, up from its outlook of $7.40 and 10% growth issued just three months ago.
To be clear, CVS still has a lot to prove. But at 26 times earnings, the price is right.
