The company offers hot-rolled, cold-rolled, electrogalvanized, hot-dip galvanized, hot-dip galvannealed, aluminized, galvalume, enameling, and advanced high-strength steel products; austenitic, martensitic, duplex, precipitation hardening, and ferritic stainless steel products; plates; and grain oriented and non-oriented electrical steel products, as well as slab, scrap, iron ore, coal, and coke. It also provides tubular components, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and electric resistance welded tubing. In addition, the company offers tinplate products, such as electrolytic tin coated and chrome coated sheet, and tin mill products; tooling and sampling; ingots, rolled blooms, and cast blooms; and hot-briquetted iron products. Further, it owns five iron ore mines in Minnesota and Michigan. The company serves automotive, infrastructure and manufacturing, distributors and converters, and steel producers. The company was formerly known as Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. and changed its name to Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. in August 2017. Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. was founded in 1847 and is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio.

Commercial Metals Company’s CMC Transform, Advance, Grow (TAG) Program focuses on driving higher through-the-cycle margins, earnings, cash flows and ROIC. CMC expects an annualized EBITDA benefit of $150 million in fiscal 2026 from the program.

Stock indexes recovered from early losses on Friday and settled higher. Falling bond yields were bullish for stocks on Friday after US January consumer prices rose less than expected, which may prompt the Fed to keep cutting interest rates. The 10-year T-note yield fell to a 2.25-month low of 4.05% on the tame inflation news.

Also, a recovery in software stocks was supportive of the overall market. However, metal companies retreated on reports that the Trump administration is working to narrow its tariffs on steel and aluminum products.
Stocks initially moved lower today, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 posting 1-week lows. Worries over AI weighed on stocks and dampened market sentiment. Concerns have surfaced that the latest tools released by Google, Anthropic, and other AI startups are already good enough to disrupt many sectors of the economy, including finance, logistics, software, and trucking.
US Jan CPI rose +2.4% y/y, weaker than expectations of +2.5% y/y and the smallest pace of increase in 7 months. Jan core CPI rose +2.5% y/y, right on expectations and the smallest pace of increase in 4.75 years.
Q4 earnings season is in full swing, as more than two-thirds of the S&P 500 companies have reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 76% of the 371 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 10% chance for a -25 bp rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets settled lower on Friday. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed down by -0.43%. China’s Shanghai Composite closed down -1.26%. Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 fell closed down -1.21%.
Interest Rates
March 10-year T-notes (ZNH6) on Friday closed up by +12 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield fell -4.2 bp to 4.056%. Mar T-notes climbed to a 2.25-month high on Friday, and the 10-year T-note yield fell to a 2.25-month low of 4.045%. T-notes recovered from overnight losses and moved higher on the smaller-than-expected US Jan CPI increase, which is dovish for Fed policy. Also, bond dealer short covering boosted T-note prices as dealers lifted short hedges placed in T-note futures this week to hedge against the $125 billion of T-note and T-bond sales in the Treasury’s quarterly refunding.
European government bond yields moved lower on Friday. The 10-year German bund yield fell to a 2.25-month low of 2.753% and finished down -2.4 bp to 2.755%. The 10-year UK gilt yield slid to a 3.5-week low of 4.404% and finished down -3.6 bp to 4.416%.
The German Jan wholesale price index rose +0.9% m/m, the largest increase in a year.
Swaps are discounting a 3% chance of a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
Software stocks rallied on Friday, helping lift the broader market. Crowdstrike Holdings (CRWD) closed up more than +4%, and ServiceNow (NOW) closed up more than +3%. Also, Salesforce (CRM), Palantir Technologies (PLTR), and Oracle (ORCL) closed up more than +2%. In addition, Adobe Systems (ADBE) closed up +0.54%, and Intuit (INTU) closed up +0.32%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks rose on Friday after Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) rallied more than +4%. Coinbase Global (COIN) closed up more than +16% to lead gainers in the S&P 500. Also, MARA Holdings (MARA) closed up more than +9%, and Strategy (MSTR) closed up more than +8%. In addition, Riot Platforms (RIOT) and Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) closed up more than +7%.

Maplebear (CART) closed up more than +9% after reporting Q4 total revenue of $992 million, stronger than the consensus of $971.8 million.
Applied Materials (AMAT) closed up more than +8% after reporting Q1 adjusted EPS of $2.38, better than the consensus of $2.21, and forecasting Q2 adjusted EPS of $2.44 to $2.84, stronger than the consensus of $2.29.
Roku (ROKU) closed up more than +8% after reporting Q4 net revenue of $1.39 billion, above the consensus of $1.35 billion, and forecasting full-year net revenue of $5.50 billion, better than the consensus of $5.34 billion.

Stocks Recover as Chipmakers Rebound

Shares of Cleveland-Cliffs (NYSE: CLF) got clobbered this week, plunging 32.5% at their lowest point in trading through 11 a.m. Friday, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence.
The steel stock's fourth-quarter and 2025 results announced this week were nothing to brag about, but investors may be overlooking a significant turning point. Some of the biggest macro challenges of last year are already behind the company, and management sees a strong recovery in 2026 as market dynamics change and steel prices rise.

Why the steel stock is getting crushed
2025 was a challenging year for Cleveland-Cliffs as demand from its key market, automotive, slumped on declining vehicle production in the U.S.
Cleveland-Cliffs also ended a major five-year steel slab contract with ArcelorMittal USA after sales became unprofitable in 2025, the final year of the deal, due to a tariff-driven gap between the slab contract price and the market price. Cleveland-Cliffs acquired ArcelorMittal USA in 2020, but it came with a catch: a contract to supply steel slabs to steel maker, ArcelorMittal's remaining non-U.S. facilities.
Cleveland-Cliffs' earnings report, released this week, revealed a $1.4 billion net loss for 2025 , roughly twice the 2024 loss.
The steel stock crashed post-earnings, but the sell-off intensified after CEO Lourenco Goncalves sold three million shares at an average price of $12.42 per share on Feb. 11. Although CEOs may sell their shares for several reasons such as tax planning, the magnitude of the sale, especially during the stock's price slump, left investors jittery.
Can Cleveland-Cliffs stock rebound in 2026?
Goncalves expects a much stronger year ahead for Cleveland-Cliffs.
Automotive volumes are recovering, with Cleveland-Cliffs already securing orders from some of its clients, which should show up in revenue and earnings in 2026. Improving end markets have also sent steel prices surging.
With hot-rolled oil-steel sitting at two-year management expects substantially higher realized prices in the first quarter -- nearly $60 per ton higher sequentially -- and even better prices as the year progresses.
Meanwhile, Cleveland-Cliffs' Canadian subsidiary Stelco should see better days ahead, what with the Canadian government imposing restrictions on steel imports from December 2025.

Stock indexes are under pressure today, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 falling to 1-week lows. Stocks are extending Thursday’s sharp losses today amid worries about AI, which have dampened market sentiment. Concerns have surfaced that the latest tools released by Google, Anthropic, and other AI startups are already good enough to disrupt many sectors of the economy, including finance, logistics, software, and trucking.

However, stock losses were limited after bond yields tumbled following US Jan consumer prices that rose less than expected, which may prompt the Fed to keep cutting interest rates. The 10-year T-note yield fell to a 2.25-month low of 4.05% on the news.
US Jan CPI rose +2.4% y/y, weaker than expectations of +2.5% y/y and the smallest pace of increase in 7 months. Jan core CPI rose +2.5% y/y, right on expectations and the smallest pace of increase in 4.75 years.
Q4 earnings season is in full swing, as more than two-thirds of the S&P 500 companies have reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 76% of the 358 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 10% chance for a -25 bp rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets are lower today. The Euro Stoxx 50 is down by -0.60%. China’s Shanghai Composite closed down -1.26%. Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 fell closed down -1.21%.
Interest Rates
March 10-year T-notes (ZNH6) today are up by +7 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is down -4.0 bp to 4.058%. Mar T-notes climbed to a 2.25-month high today, and the 10-year T-note yield fell to a 2.25-month low of 4.048%. T-notes recovered from overnight losses and moved higher on a smaller-than-expected increase in US Jan CPI, which is dovish for Fed policy. Also, bond dealer short covering is boosting T-note prices as dealers lift short hedges placed in T-note futures to hedge against this week’s Treasury sales of T-notes and T-bonds in the quarterly refunding.
European government bond yields are moving lower today. The 10-year German bund yield fell to a 2.25-month low of 2.753% and is down -2.4 bp to 2.755%. The 10-year UK gilt yield slid to a 3-week low of 4.420% and is down -3.2 bp to 4.421%.
The German Jan wholesale price index rose +0.9% m/m, the largest increase in a year.
Swaps are discounting a 3% chance of a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
The weakness in the Magnificent Seven technology stocks is weighing on the overall market. Apple (AAPL), Alphabet (GOOGL), and Nvidia (NVDA) are down more than -1%. Also, Tesla (TSLA) is down -0.98%, Meta Platforms (META) is down -0.89%, and Amazon.com (AMZN) is down -0.36%. Microsoft (MSFT) is bucking the trend and is up +0.38%.
Metal companies are under pressure today on reports that the Trump administration is working to narrow its tariffs on steel and aluminum products. Century Aluminum (CENX) is down more than -7%, and Steel Dynamics (STLD) and Nucor Corp (NUE) are down more than -5%. Also, Cleveland-Cliffs (CLF) and Kaiser Aluminum (KALU) are down more than -4%, and Alcoa (AA) and Commercial Metals (CMC) are down more than -3%.
Pinterest (PINS) is down more than -24% after reporting Q4 revenue of $1.32 billion, below the consensus of $1.33 billion, and forecasting Q1 revenue of $951 million to $971 million, weaker than the consensus of $980.9 million.
DraftKings (DKNG) is down more than -15% after forecasting full-year revenue of $6.5 billion to $6.9 billion, well below the consensus of $7.32 billion.
Bio-Rad Laboratories (BIO) is down more than -12% after reporting Q4 adjusted EPS of $2.51, below the consensus of $2.71.
Ryan Specialty Holdings (RYAN) is down more than -12% after reporting Q4 total revenue of $751.2 million, weaker than the consensus of $774.7 million.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) is down more than -7% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after CEO Harry Sommer stepped down immediately and was replaced by John Chidsey.
Expedia Group (EXPE) is down more than -5% despite posting better-than-expected Q4 earnings after Bloomberg Intelligence warned that AI is “a long-term risk for the broader online travel industry.”
Tri Point Homes (TPH) is up more than +26% after being acquired by Sumitomo Forestry for about $4.28 billion, or $47 a share.
Rivian Automotive (RIVN) is up more than +23% after reporting Q4 revenue of $1.29 billion, above the consensus of $1.26 billion, and forecasting full-year vehicle deliveries of 62,000 to 67,000, the midpoint above the consensus of 63,402.
Maplebear (CART) is up more than +18% after reporting Q4 total revenue of $992 million, stronger than the consensus of $971.8 million.
Applied Materials (AMAT) is up more than +10% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 after reporting Q1 adjusted EPS of $2.38, better than the consensus of $2.21, and forecasting Q2 adjusted EPS of $2.44 to $2.84, stronger than the consensus of $2.29.
Roku (ROKU) is up more than +10% after reporting Q4 net revenue of $1.39 billion, above the consensus of $1.35 billion, and forecasting full-year net revenue of $5.50 billion, better than the consensus of $5.34 billion.

Stock indexes recovered from early losses on Monday and settled higher, with the Dow Jones Industrials posting a new all-time high. Stock indexes rallied on Monday after chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks rebounded from early losses. Also, mining stocks rose on Monday after gold prices jumped 2% and silver prices surged more than 6%.

Stocks initially moved lower on Monday due to early weakness in technology stocks. Also, US bond yields initially rose on Monday, pressuring stocks, after Chinese regulators told banks to scale back their holdings of US debt, reviving worries about the haven status of US assets.
However, T-note yields fell back from early highs on Monday and moved lower, helping stocks recover on dovish comments from National Economic Council Director Hassett, who said we should expect slightly lower US job numbers, citing slower population growth and higher productivity.
The markets this week will focus on corporate earnings results and economic news. On Tuesday, the Q4 employment cost index is expected to rise by 0.8%. Also, Dec retail sales are expected to climb by +0.4% m/m and +0.4% m/m ex-autos. On Wednesday, Jan nonfarm payrolls are expected to climb +69,000, and the Jan unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 4.4%. Also, Jan average hourly earnings are expected to rise by +0.3% m/m and +3.7% y/y. On Thursday, initial weekly unemployment claims are expected to fall by -7,000 to 224,000. Also, Jan existing home sales are expected to decline by -3.5% m/m to 4.20 million. On Friday, Jan CPI is expected to be up +2.5% y/y, and Jan core CPI is expected to be up +2.5% y/y.

T-note prices recovered from early losses on Monday and moved higher after National Economic Council Director Hassett said we should expect slightly lower US job numbers, citing slower population growth and higher productivity.
T-notes initially moved lower on Monday after Chinese regulators told banks to scale back their holdings of US debt, reviving worries over the haven status of US assets. Also, supply pressures are weighing on T-note prices as the Treasury will auction $125 billion of T-notes and T-bonds in this week’s quarterly refunding, beginning Tuesday’s $58 billion auction of 3-year T-notes.
European government bond yields were mixed on Monday. The 10-year German bund yield fell -0.2 bp to 2.840%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose +1.3 bp to 4.527%.
The Eurozone Feb Sentix investor confidence index rose by +6.0 to a 7-month high of 4.2, stronger than expectations of 0.0.
ECB Governing Council member Peter Kazimir said the ECB should only alter interest rates “if there is a major departure from our baseline scenario” for growth and inflation.
Swaps are discounting a 2% chance of a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at its next policy meeting on March 19.
US Stock Movers
Chip makers and AI-infrastructure stocks recovered from early losses on Monday and moved higher, boosting the broader market. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Broadcom (AVGO) closed up more than +3%. Also, Nvidia (NVDA), Applied Materials (AMAT), NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI), and Marvell Technology (MRVL) closed up more than +2%. In addition, Western Digital (WDC), ASML Holding NV (ASML), and Qualcomm (QCOM) closed up more than +1%.
Mining stocks rallied on Monday after the price of gold rose +2% and silver jumped by more than +6%. Coeur Mining (CDE) closed up more than +7%, and Hecla Mining (HL) closed up more than +5%. Also, Freeport McMoRan (FCX) and Newmont Mining (NEM) closed up more than +4%, and Barrick Mining (B) closed up more than +3%.
AppLovin (APP) closed up more than +13% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 after Citigroup said the company’s clients through the week of February 6 are up +3% from the prior week.
Oracle (ORCL) closed up more than +9% after D.A. Davidson upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $180.
TEGNA Inc (TGNA) closed up more than +8% after President Trump backed Nexstar Media Group’s proposed acquisition of the company.
Viatris (VTRS) closed up more than +6% after UBS upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $18.
Dynatrace (DT) closed up more than +6% after reporting Q3 revenue of $515.5 million, better than the consensus of $506.6 million, and raising its full-year revenue forecast to $2.01 billion from $1.99 billion to $2.00 billion, above the consensus of $1.99 billion.
Ciena Corp (CIEN) closed up more than +6%, adding to last Fridays’ +7% jump, after the stock rejoined the S&P 500 Index on Monday for the first time in 16 years.
Robinhood Markets (HOOD) closed up more than +5% after Wolfe Research upgraded the stock to outperform from peer perform with a price target of $125.
SoFi Technologies (SOFI) closed up more than +2% after Citizens Jmp Securities LLC upgraded the stock to market outperform from market perform with a price target of $30.
Kyndryl Holdings (KD) closed down more than -55% after reporting Q3 revenue of $3.86 billion, below the consensus of $3.89 billion, and cutting its full-year adjusted pretax profit estimate to $575 million-$600 million from a previous estimate of at least $725 million.
Monday.com (MNDY) closed down more than -21% after forecasting Q4 revenue of $328 million to $330 million, below the consensus of $333.7 million.
Cleveland-Cliffs (CLF) closed down more than -16% after reporting Q4 revenue of $4.31 billion, well below the consensus of $4.58 billion.
Hims & Hers Health (HIMS) closed down by more than 16% after it said it would stop selling its recently launched copycat version of the new Wegovy weight-loss pill.
Waters (WAT) closed down more than -13% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after forecasting Q1 adjusted EPS of $2.25 to $2.35, weaker than the consensus of $2.52.
Workday (WDAY) closed down more than -5% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100 after CEO Eschenbach is leaving immediately and will serve as an advisor.

Stocks Settle Higher on Strength in Tech

Cleveland-Cliffs (NYSE:CLF), North America's largest flat-rolled steel producer, closed Monday at $12.30, down 16.46%. The stock fell after Q4 2025 results showed a revenue miss and full-year net loss. Investors are also watching the company’s 2026 shipment and cost outlook.
Trading volume reached 55.2 million shares, coming in about 238% above compared with its three-month average of 16.3 million shares. Cleveland-Cliffs IPO'd in 1987 and has grown 615% since going public.
How the markets moved today
The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) added 0.47% to finish Monday at 6,965, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) climbed 0.90% to close at 23,239. Within the steel industry, peer Nucor (NYSE:NUE) closed at $193.16, up 0.17%, underscoring how company-specific earnings news is driving dispersion among steel producers.
What this means for investors
Cleveland-Cliffs reported fourth-quarter revenue of $4.3 billion. That was flat year over year, and missed Wall Street’s consensus for sales of $4.6 billion. The company ended the year with a net loss of over $1.4 billion, helping to push the stock lower.
Management spoke optimistically about 2026, however. The company expects steel shipments to rise by more than 3% which, along with cost-cutting moves, could help drive some recovery in margins.
One wildcard is a pending strategic partnership with South Korea’s Posco Holdings (NYSE:PKX). Expectations are for a definitive agreement to be announced in the first half of 2026. Cliffs CEO Lourenco Goncalves teased the potential new arrangement, stating, “The duration of these negotiations reflects the seriousness and potential scale of the opportunity.”
