Colgate-Palmolive Company, together with its subsidiaries, manufactures and sells consumer products in the United States and internationally. It operates through two segments: Oral, Personal and Home Care; and Pet Nutrition. The Oral, Personal and Home Care segment offers toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, bar and liquid hand soaps, shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, deodorants and antiperspirants, skin health products, dishwashing detergents, fabric conditioners, household cleaners, and other related items. This segment markets and sells its products under various brands, which include Colgate, Darlie, elmex, hello, meridol, Sorriso, Tom's of Maine, Irish Spring, Palmolive, Protex, Sanex, Softsoap, Lady Speed Stick, Speed Stick, EltaMD, Filorga, PCA SKIN, Ajax, Axion, Fabuloso, Murphy, Suavitel, and Soupline to a range of traditional and eCommerce retailers, wholesalers, and distributors. It includes pharmaceutical products for dentists and other oral health professionals. Its Pet Nutrition segment offers pet nutrition products for everyday nutritional needs under the Hill's Science Diet brand; and a range of therapeutic pet products to help nutritionally support dogs and cats in different stages of health under the Hill's Prescription Diet brand. This segment markets and sells its products through pet supply retailers, veterinarians, and eCommerce retailers. Colgate-Palmolive Company was founded in 1806 and is headquartered in New York, New York.

OLLI or CL: Which Is the Better Value Stock Right Now?

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Friday closed down -2.64%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) closed down -1.35%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed down -4.77%. June E-mini S&P futures (ESM26) fell -2.97%, and June E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQM26) fell -5.09%.
Stock indexes sold off sharply on Friday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 posting 2-week lows. Investors rotated out of AI-infrastructure and semiconductor companies and sold megacap technology stocks that earlier this week pushed US stock indexes to all-time highs. Technology stocks retreated amid long liquidation and profit-taking after Broadcom’s outlook for chip sales fell short of high expectations, raising concerns that the AI trade rally has been excessive.

Stock indexes added to their losses on Friday as bond yields soared on the stronger-than-expected US May payrolls report, bolstering speculation that the Fed’s next interest rate move will be a rate hike. The 10-year T-note yield rose to a 2-week high of 4.55%.
US May nonfarm payrolls rose +172,000, stronger than expectations of +88,000. Also, Apr nonfarm payrolls were revised upward to +179,000 from the previously reported +115,000. The May unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.3%, right on expectations.
US May average hourly earnings rose +0.3% m/m and +3.4% y/y, right on expectations.
US Apr consumer credit increased by $20.733 billion, stronger than expectations of $17.670 billion.
Crude oil prices fell more than -2% on Friday, even as the US and Iran have made little progress in talks over an interim peace deal, with clashes between Israel and Hezbollah militants continuing in Lebanon. Iran insists on a ceasefire in Lebanon before accepting a US deal to extend the truce and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump said Thursday that negotiations with Iran are in the “final” stages without elaborating, while Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi earlier said there had been “no tangible progress” even though both sides continue to exchange messages via mediators.
The markets are discounting a 1% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on June 16-17.
The generally favorable Q1 earnings season is winding down. As of Friday, 84% of the 496 S&P 500 companies that reported Q1 earnings have beaten estimates. Q1 S&P 500 earnings are projected to climb +12% y/y, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. Stripping out the technology sector, Q1 earnings are projected to increase around +3%, the weakest in two years.
Overseas stock markets settled lower on Friday. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed down -0.68%. China's Shanghai Composite fell to a 7-week low and closed down -0.74%. Japan's Nikkei Stock Average closed down -1.31%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) on Friday closed down -16.5 ticks, and the 10-year T-note yield rose +6.9 bp to 4.542%. Sep T-note prices tumbled to a 2-week low on Friday, and the 10-year T-note yield rose to a 2-week high of 4.552%. T-notes retreated on Friday amid a stronger-than-expected increase in US May nonfarm payrolls and a sharp upside revision to April nonfarm payrolls, bolstering speculation that the next Fed move will be an interest rate increase.
European government bond yields moved higher on Friday. The 10-year German Bund yield climbed to a 2-week high of 3.051% and finished up +1.6 bp to 3.038%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose +0.5 bp to 4.903%.
Eurozone Q1 GDP was revised downward to -0.2% q/q and +0.3% y/y from the previously reported +0.1% q/q and +0.8% y/y.
Swaps are discounting a 100% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on June 11.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks are retreating for a second day today after Broadcom’s outlook for chip sales fell short of high expectations, raising concerns over whether the rally in the AI trade has been excessive. Marvell Technology (MRVL) closed down more than -16% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100, and Micron Technology (MU) closed down more than -13%. Also, ARM Holdings Plc (ARM) closed down more than -12%, and Intel (INTC), Sandisk (SNDK), ON Semiconductor (ON), and Western Digital (WDC) closed down more than -10%. In addition, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Qualcomm (QCOM) closed down more than -9%, and Applied Materials (AMAT), KLA Corp (KLAC), Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX), and Lam Research (LRCX) closed down more than -8%. Finally, Broadcom (AVGO), NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI), and Microchip Technology (MCHP) closed down more than -7%, and ASML Holding NV (ASML) and Texas Instruments (TXN) closed down more than -6%.
The Magnificent Seven technology stocks fell sharply on Friday. Tesla (TSLA) and Nvidia (NVDA) closed down more than -6%, and Meta Platforms (META) closed down more than -5%. Also, Amazon.com (AMZN) closed down more than -3%, and Microsoft (MSFT) closed down more than -2%. In addition, Alphabet (GOOGL) and Apple (AAPL) closed down more than -1%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks sank on Friday, as Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) fell more than -5% to a 20-month low. Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) closed down more than -11%, and MARA Holdings (MARA) and Riot Platforms (RIOT) closed down more than -10%. Also, Coinbase Global (COIN) closed down more than -7%, and Strategy (MSTR) closed down more than -6%.
Mining stocks sold off on Friday as gold, silver, and copper prices plunged. Hecla Mining (HL) closed down more than -12%, and Coeur Mining (CDE) closed down more than -11%. Also, Southern Copper (SCCO) closed down more than -10%, and Freeport McMoRan (FCX) closed down more than 9%. In addition, Anglogold Ashanti (AU) closed down more than -8%, and Newmont Corp (NEM) and Barrick Mining (B) closed down more than -7%.
Defensive consumer staple companies rallied on Friday amid the broader market's plunge. Clorox (CLX) closed up more than +5%, and Procter & Gamble (PG) closed up more than +4% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials. Also, Kimberly-Clark (KMB) and Colgate-Palmolive (CL) closed up more than +4%, and Coca-Cola (KO) and Tyson Foods (TSN) closed up more than +3%.
Guidewire Software (GWRE) closed down more than -9% after forecasting Q4 subscription and support revenue of $259 million to $265 million, the midpoint below the consensus of $263.6 million.
Lululemon Athletica (LULU) closed down more than -8% after cutting its 2027 net revenue forecast to $11 billion to $11.15 billion from a previous forecast of $11.35 billion to $11.50 billion, below the consensus of $11.49 billion.
DocuSign (DOCU) closed down more than -6% after forecasting a full-year adjusted gross margin of 81.5% to 82%, the midpoint below the consensus of 81.8%.
Fiserv (FISV) closed down more than -3% after BNP Paribas downgraded the stock to underperform from neutral with a price target of $46.
Cooper Cos (COO) closed up more than +8% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q2 net sales of $1.08 billion, better than the consensus of $1.05 billion.
G-III Apparel Group Ltd (GIII) closed up more than +5% after boosting its 2027 adjusted EPS forecast to $2.15 to $2.25 from a previous estimate of $2.00 to $2.10, above the consensus of $2.09.
ServiceTitan (TTAN) closed up more than +4% after reporting Q1 revenue of $268.8 million, above the consensus of $256.7 million.

Stocks Settle Sharply Lower as Tech Companies Routed

Colgate-Palmolive Company CL is striving for a balance between volume and pricing, rather than relying solely on price increases to drive revenues. In the first quarter of fiscal 2026, the company highlighted that it witnessed improved volume performance, particularly within the Asia Pacific region. Excluding the impact from the private label pet food exit, the company achieved both volume and pricing growth across all four categories and in four of its five operating divisions, reflecting broad-based business momentum.
The company stated that industry-wide category volumes remain relatively sluggish globally, making the recent acceleration in volume growth particularly encouraging. Management highlighted that volume improvement compared with the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025 was broad-based, with growth observed across nearly all divisions and categories in the first quarter of fiscal 2026. This trend was strongest in emerging markets, which the company views as a primary growth engine. Management noted that the Asia Pacific region was a significant contributor to accelerating growth trends, while Latin America continued delivering solid volume performance and market share gains.
However, pricing remains a critical lever navigating the inflationary environment and maintaining pricing power remains a key priority across the business. Management highlighted that pricing actions continue to be important for protecting margin dollars and supporting category investment. The company also emphasized that future pricing initiatives will increasingly be supported by innovation and strong value propositions across multiple price points. Management expects innovation-led pricing opportunities to continue through the remainder of the year as it focuses on balancing pricing strategy with consumer value.
Overall, Colgate appears increasingly balanced between pricing and volume growth, with emerging market momentum, innovation-led demand and pricing discipline supporting sustainable revenue growth and margin protection.

Is Colgate Too Dependent on Pricing Actions for Revenue Growth?

With stubborn inflation, uncertainty around what will happen next with interest rates, and higher gas prices, some investors aren't buying into the recent stock market rally. That's understandable as no one wants to get caught flatfooted if momentum stalls and portfolios are left without any defensive positions.
To be clear, a defensive position doesn't mean market crash-proof, as all companies feel ripples from downturns in some shape or form. But there are companies that have proven they can bend but not break during severe market pullbacks and crashes.

Companies that fit that criteria are Dividend Kings, meaning they have increased their dividend payouts for 50 or more consecutive years, which is a sign of a strong business. No matter what's been happening in the economy and the broader world, those companies have always managed to keep boosting their dividend payouts.
Three companies that have hit that elite status are PepsiCo (NASDAQ: PEP), Black Hills (NYSE: BKH), and Colgate-Palmolive (NYSE: CL).
1. Drinks and snacks help hike dividend payouts
PepsiCo's rival, Coca-Cola, is also a Dividend King, with 63 years of consecutive dividend increases, and it leads Pepsi, which has increased its dividend payouts for 54 years. Coca-Cola is another quality dividend-paying stock, but I've included Pepsi on this list because it has its rival beat in terms of dividend payout, as many people will want to generate more income during a market downturn. Coca-Cola's dividend currently yields 2.6%, while PepsiCo's yields 3.9%.
Unlike Coca-Cola, PepsiCo also has a broader portfolio of products, including drinks and snacks; its snack division could experience meaningful revenue growth in the years ahead. Grand View Research forecasts the global snack market will climb in value from roughly $719 billion in 2024 to over $922 billion by 2030.
During an economic downturn, people tend to cut back on expenses like vacations and big-ticket purchases, but snacks and drinks remain an affordable luxury. That helps PepsiCo keep its edge. That said, this isn't an investment to own for stock price appreciation, but it will pay you a dividend with a respectable yield, no matter what's happening in the economy.
2. The utility Dividend King
This list primarily consists of consumer goods stocks, but I added Black Hills to offer some variety, as utility providers have critical services people will always need.
The company's subsidiary, Black Hills Energy, provides electric utilities and natural gas to over 1 million customers. It also has a utility partnership with Microsoft in Wyoming, and its energy assets and customer base could also soon expand, as it's in a definitive agreement to merge with NorthWestern Energy Group. Together, the combined company would have over 2 million customers across eight states.
To earn the Dividend King title, Black Hills has increased its payout for 56 consecutive years, with that dividend yielding 3.7%. If the NorthWestern merger is approved, the combined company plans to continue paying dividends.
3. From toothpaste to dog food
Rounding out this list is Colgate-Palmolive, which has a huge portfolio of products that people will always buy. It makes Colgate toothpaste, Irish Spring soap, and Palmolive dishwashing liquid, and it owns the pet prescription food company, Hill's Pet Nutrition.
The company recently posted strong 2026 first-quarter results, with $5.3 billion in net sales, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of record net sales for Colgate-Palmolive. However, the company issued some warnings for the rest of the year. It expects packaging and material costs to rise and shared a few scenarios in which it could incur additional costs.
Still, the company has been around long enough to handle plenty of uncertainty and has still increased its dividend payout for 63 consecutive years. That dividend payout currently yields 2.3%.

The Coca-Cola Company (NYSE: KO) approved its 64th consecutive annual dividend increase in February, lifting the annual payout to $2.12 per share from $2.04. The reason this dividend has held up for more than six decades is structural. Coca-Cola sells syrup concentrate to a global network of independent bottlers, which produces high gross margins, low capital intensity, and pricing power even when consumer demand softens.
The 2025 to 2026 stretch has also been one of the better periods for revenue per case, as international pricing has held up, and the company has continued to invest in away-from-home channels.
The honest risk with Coca-Cola is that its volume growth in developed markets is modest, and weight-loss drugs are starting to influence beverage consumption at the margin. Neither factor has really shown up in the numbers, but both deserve to be monitored.
2. Procter & Gamble
Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) declared its 69th consecutive annual dividend increase in April. The payout is supported by a portfolio of category-leading brands across laundry, personal care, beauty, baby, and grooming, and by some of the most predictable free cash flow in the consumer staples universe. P&G's dividend has been paid for more than 130 years, which is genuinely unusual.
The dividend appeal is its consistency. P&G generates enough free cash flow to cover the dividend, fund buybacks, and reinvest in product development, all in the same year, every year.
3. Colgate-Palmolive
Colgate-Palmolive Company (NYSE: CL) raised its quarterly dividend in March, continuing one of the longer payout-growth streaks in consumer staples. The reason this stock works for dividend-focused investors is that toothpaste and oral care are among the most recession-resistant consumer goods, and Colgate's emerging-market exposure provides volume growth that mature U.S. competitors do not.
4. McDonald's
McDonald's Corporation (NYSE: MCD) currently yields about 2.7%, with a long history of annual dividend increases and a payout supported by a franchise model that generates substantial royalty-based cash flow. The reason the dividend is so reliable is the structure. McDonald's collects rent and royalties from franchisees rather than running most stores itself, which makes the income stream look more like a real estate and royalty business than a restaurant business.
The risk worth naming is value perception. McDonald's has been in a multi-quarter rebuild of its value menu, and traffic among lower-income U.S. consumers has been pressured. The payout itself is well covered, but earnings growth depends on how the value rebuild progresses.
5. Walmart
Walmart (NASDAQ: WMT) extended its dividend-growth streak to 53 years in February, with the quarterly payout rising to $0.248 per share. The yield is modest, but the dividend growth profile and the underlying business are what make this work. Walmart's advertising business is generating roughly $6.4 billion in revenue, and the membership program (Walmart Plus) is scaling. Adjusted operating income grew 10.8% in the fourth quarter, while revenue grew 5.6%, indicating real operating leverage.
How to think about the mix
These five names aren't the highest-yielding consumer goods stocks, and that's my point. What each ticker offers instead is consistency. Each one has strong payout coverage, a long history of dividend growth, and the kind of stability that lets income investors actually plan around the cash flow for decades.
A common trap in dividend investing is getting distracted by headline yield. A 6% yield can look attractive until the payout gets cut. Meanwhile, a steady 2% yield from a long-established Dividend King that grows its dividend 6% to 8% a year can quietly compound into a far larger income stream over time. A Dividend King is a company that's grown its dividend payment for at least 50 consecutive years.
That's the profile these companies tend to fit. Each represents a different angle on the same core idea: durable cash generation, dominant market positions, and a long record of raising dividends across multiple cycles. Put together thoughtfully and held with patience, they're less about chasing today's income and more about building a dividend stream that grows steadily year after year.

Procter & Gamble is more than you might realize
You've almost certainly heard of the company, but are you aware of just how wide and entrenched its product portfolio is?
Procter & Gamble is the name behind brands like Tide laundry detergent, Gillette razors, Dawn dishwashing liquid, Crest toothpaste, Pampers diapers, and Bounty paper towels, among others. Most of its products are leaders of their respective categories, if only because they've been around forever and have had plenty of time to become the preferred, out-of-habit purchase. That's also why the company's the biggest name in the consumer goods business, driving sales of $84.3 billion last fiscal year and turning $16.1 billion of that into net income.
Oh, its net growth was modest, to be clear, as is usually the case for this giant, multifaceted company. There's only so much progress to be made in the well-saturated consumer staples business.
Investors don't own a stake in P&G first and foremost for growth, however. While they'll certainly get some if they hang on to it long enough, this stock's dividend pedigree is its chief selling feature.
As noted, P&G's per-share payout has now been increased for 70 consecutive years and is still going. And by more than a little. The annual increase announced in April was a 3% improvement on the prior payout, capping off a 10-year streak where the dividend payment grew at an average yearly rate of 4.8%.
But there's a much deeper, philosophical argument for buying and holding a position in Procter here.
Built tough
This isn't to suggest the company can simply breeze through any challenges. Things get tough for it, too. For instance, since inflation became regularly unwieldy beginning in 2022, more than once has the company reported disappointing quarterly revenue resulting from price hikes it had little choice but to impose.
It responded as it should, with everything from job cuts to more aggressive innovation. But some of its challenges are largely out of its control. High oil prices, for example, could shave as much as $1 billion off this year's bottom line.
In the grand scheme of things, though, Procter & Gamble enjoys an arguably unfair advantage over its rivals. That's its sheer size.
This size-based advantage manifests in several ways. Perhaps the most important one, however, is that P&G is simply able to spend more on marketing and advertising than rivals like Clorox and Colgate-Palmolive.
For perspective, Procter spent $9.2 billion on advertising last fiscal year, versus Colgate-Palmolive's $2.7 billion and Clorox's typical $800 million. In a business where the repetition of a marketing message matters, Procter & Gamble's competitors just can't afford to keep up.
Procter's size also helps in another often-overlooked way. That's the fact that its product lineup is so important to retailers. Not only are P&G's quality products relatively easy to sell to consumers, but retailers know Procter & Gamble will promote its own goods, driving foot traffic to stores where consumers are apt to buy something else while there. This gives the company significant leverage when negotiating wholesale pricing or placement on a store's shelves.
In other words, Procter & Gamble's got true staying power.
Not right for everyone, but a perfect option for some
Again, it's not a growth stock by any means. P&G shares have underperformed the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) for the better part of the past 10 years, in fact, with or without reinvested dividends.
Still, Procter's done its job as an income-producing holding. It's dished out in the order of $14.00 worth of growing per-share dividends during this stretch, maintaining a respectable yield of between 2.3% and 3.2% for most of this time.
Perhaps more noteworthy right now -- under the dark clouds of what seemingly could turn into more pronounced economic weakness -- notice on the chart that PG shares tend to perform better when the overall market doesn't. If, for some reason, investors start worrying about AI stocks' wild valuations and suddenly seek safety, a well-proven Procter & Gamble is one of the first names they'll likely turn to.
Bottom line? Don't make it complicated. It's not a sexy stock to own. However, P&G is certainly a reliable one -- especially for income-seeking investors. You can plug into it while its forward-looking dividend yield is a solid 3%.
