In its fiscal third-quarter 2025, this online education provider reported a 17.8% year-over-year revenue jump to $613.4 million—beating estimates by $20 million—driven by a 21% surge in total enrollment. Career learning revenue alone grew 33% to $223.9 million, bolstered by 34% enrollment growth.
These numbers highlight the structural tailwinds favoring Stride. As highlighted by the company in its fiscal third-quarterearnings call February Gallup Polls suggest that nearly 90% of parents now explore non-college career paths for their children, and more than 15% have considered full-time online schooling—up sharply from pre-pandemic levels. Stride is actively meeting that demand through its career-focused middle and high school programs, tutoring platforms, and innovations like K12 Zone and geo-based social pods that blend digital and real-world interaction.
Importantly, management raised its full-year revenue and operating income guidance for fiscal 2025 and is already on track to surpass its 2028 CAGR targets three years early. Despite a slight EPS miss due to higher share count from convertible notes, Stride's fundamentals remain robust, with adjusted operating income up 47% and gross margin expanding 190 basis points to 40.6%.
Yet, challenges remain. State-level enrollment caps and the lack of traction in lower grades could limit upside. Still, if Stride can expand its footprint and capitalize on shifting education preferences, its ambitions to lead the next 25 years of K-12 innovation may not be far-fetched.
Can Stride Stay Ahead of Chegg and Coursera in Online Learning?
As Stride charts its path for the next 25 years of K-12 transformation, competitors like Chegg CHGG and Coursera COUR are also shaping the future of digital education—albeit through different models. Chegg, best known for its study tools and textbook services, is pivoting toward AI-driven learning support. While Chegg doesn’t directly compete in K-12 full-time enrollment, its tools increasingly serve high schoolers preparing for college or workforce credentials. Chegg’s push into personalized learning may pressure Stride to deepen its academic support offerings.
Coursera, meanwhile, is expanding its footprint in online credentialing and high school dual-enrollment programs. Coursera has partnered with universities and governments to offer scalable, low-cost education alternatives—posing a growing challenge to Stride as career education becomes mainstream in K-12. As Stride strengthens its middle and high school pathways, it must continue to differentiate itself from both Chegg and Coursera to maintain its leadership.

(RTTNews) - Chegg, Inc. (CHGG), Monday reported first-quarter net loss of $17.5 million or $0.17 per share, compared to $1.4 million or $0.01 per share last year.
Adjusted net loss was $6.7 million or $0.06 per share compared to net income of $29.6 million or $0.26 per share last year.
Net revenues were $121.4 million, a decrease of 30% year-over-year from $174.4 million last year.
"In Q1, we exceeded our revenue and adjusted EBITDA expectations, delivered $16 million of free cash flow and continued to diversify our revenue streams. We are encouraged by the conversations in our strategic alternatives process and the value these organizations see in our business," said Nathan Schultz, Chief Executive Officer & President of Chegg, Inc. "Despite these promising developments, we believe the trends impacting our business will worsen before they get better. We are taking steps to further align costs with our outlook, including an additional restructuring of our business."
Looking forward to the second quarter, the company expects net revenues of $100 million to $102 million, subscription services revenues of $85 million to $87 million and gross margin between 64% and 65%.

Microchip Technology MCHP reported fourth-quarter fiscal 2025 non-GAAP earnings of 11 cents per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 28.57% and plunged 81.5% year over year.
Net sales of $970.5 million decreased 26.8% year over year and beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.98%. Sequentially, revenues declined 5.4%. The figure was $10.5 million above the midpoint of Microchip’s guidance.
Following the impressive fiscal fourth-quarter results, Microchip shares were up more than 13% at the time of writing this article. The company provided solid guidance with accelerating inventory write-offs that are expected to boost gross margin. MCHP shares have declined 14.3% compared with the Zacks Computer and Technology sector’s fall of 9.1% year to date.

As of March 31, 2025, total debt (long-term plus current portion) was $5.63 billion compared with $6.75 billion as of Dec. 31, 2024.
Inventory at the end of March 2025 was 251 days, down from 266 days at the end of December 2024.
For the fiscal fourth quarter, cash flow from operating activities was $205.9 million compared with $43.6 million in the previous quarter.
Free cash flow was $191.7 million compared with $22.8 million in the previous quarter.
Microchip returned roughly $244.8 million to shareholders through dividends in the fiscal fourth quarter. The company announced a quarterly dividend of 45.5 cents per share.

Microchip Q4 Earnings & Sales Beat Estimates, Shares Up on Solid View

Shopify SHOP reported first-quarter 2025 non-GAAP earnings of 25 cents per share, which missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 3.85%. The figure jumped 25% year over year.
Revenues of $2.36 billion surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.32%. The top line soared 26.8% year over year.
Following first-quarter 2025 results, SHOP shares were down 2% at the time of writing this article. Shopify shares have declined 11.6% year to date, outperforming the Zacks Computer and Technology sector’s fall of 9.1%.

SHOP’s Top Line Rides on Growing Merchant Base
Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV) in the first quarter was $74.75 billion, which increased 22.8% year over year. Same-store sales growth from existing merchants, a higher number of merchants on SHOP’s platform, and strong growth in Europe drove GMV in the reported quarter. Offline GMV increased 23% year over year while B2B GMV jumped 109%. International GMV grew 31% year over year, with Europe’s GMV increasing 36% year over year.
Shopify is benefiting from strong growth in its merchant base. Merchant solutions revenues in the first quarter were $1.74 billion and accounted for 73.7% of Shopify’s total revenues. On a year-over-year basis, merchant revenues increased 29%, driven by strong GMV and increased penetration of Shopify payments.
Shopify Payments’ GMV penetration hit 64% in the first quarter of 2025. Shop Pay GMV increased 57% year over year, and it processed more than $22 billion in GMV. Shop App native GMV jumped 94% year over year and 84% sequentially.
Subscription solutions revenues in the first quarter were $620 million and accounted for 26.3% of Shopify’s total revenues. On a year-over-year basis, subscription solutions revenues increased 21.3%.
Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) in the first quarter was $182 million, which increased 20.5% on a year-over-year basis. Plus category accounted for 34% of MRR in the reported quarter, unchanged sequentially.
SHOP’s Operating Expenses Rise Y/Y
In the first quarter of 2025, gross profit was $1.17 billion, up 22.2% year over year. Subscription Solutions’ gross profit grew 19% year over year, while Merchant Solutions’ gross profit grew 24%.
Total operating expenses were $966 million, up 10.9% year over year. As a percentage of revenues, total operating expenses declined 590 basis points (bps) to 40.9%.
Sales & Marketing (S&M) expenses increased 12.2% year over year to $405 million. As a percentage of revenues, S&M expenses decreased 220 bps year over year to 17.2%
Research & Development (R&D) expenses increased 12.5% year over year to $377 million. As a percentage of revenues, R&D expenses decreased 200 bps year over year to 16%.
General & Administrative (G&A) expenses decreased 12.1% year over year to $109 million. As a percentage of revenues, G&A expenses decreased 200 bps to 4.6%.
Consequently, SHOP reported an adjusted operating income of $329 million, up 63.7% year over year.
SHOP’s Balance Sheet Details
As of March 31, 2025, cash and cash equivalents (including marketable securities) totaled $5.51 billion, which decreased from $5.48 billion as of Dec. 31, 2024.
Free cash flow increased 56.5% year over year to $363 million. The free cash flow margin expanded 100 bps to 15% in the reported quarter.
SHOP’s Q2 Guidance Positive
For the second quarter of 2025, Shopify expects revenues to grow at a mid-twenties percentage rate on a year-over-year basis.
Gross profit is anticipated to grow at a high-twenties percentage rate on a year-over-year basis.
Shopify expects GAAP operating expense as a percentage of revenues to be in the 39-40% range.
Free cash flow margin is expected to be in the mid-teens.

Shopify Q1 Earnings Lag Estimates, Revenues Jump Y/Y, Shares Fall

Fortinet Inc. FTNT reported strong first-quarter 2025 results, wherein both earnings and revenues surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate and improved year over year.

FTNT Quarter in Detail
Segment-wise, Product revenues increased 12.3% year over year to $459.1 million, driven by growth in both hardware and software solutions. FortiGate hardware revenues grew outpacing total product revenue growth, driven by strong performance in low-end and high-end models. Software license revenue growth was driven by on-prem, time-based software license growth of more than 30%.
Service revenues of $1.08 billion grew 14.4% year over year, accounting for 70% of total revenues. Security subscriptions revenues rose 16%, and support and related service revenues increased 12%. Service billings grew 14%, which was Fortinet’s highest growth rate in the past 5 quarters.
Unified SASE and Security Operations gained considerable traction, with security service edge billings growth of more than 110%, which drove FTNT’s Unified SASE billings growth to 18%, accounting for 25% of the business.
AI-driven Security Operations billings increased 29%, accounting for 10% of FTNT’s business, driven by customers continuing to consolidate multiple security vendors on the company’s integrated and AI-enhanced FortiFabric solution.
Margins of FTNT
Total gross margin increased 380 basis points (bps) to 81.9% and exceeded the high end of the guided range by 90 bps.
Product gross margin of 67.7% increased 1,200 bps as inventory-related charges normalized from last year’s highly elevated levels, adding 1,300 bps to product gross margin and 400 bps to total gross margin.
Service gross margin of 87.8% decreased 10 bps, as Fortinet absorbed increased costs associated with the expansion of hosted security solutions.
Operating margin increased 570 bps to a first-quarter record of 34.2% and was 320 bps above the high-end of the company’s guidance, reflecting the strong gross margin, a Fx tailwind of 100 bps, as well as cost efficiencies in the business.

Fortinet Q1 Earnings Surpass Expectations, Sales Increase Y/Y

ON Semiconductor’s ON first-quarter 2025 Power Solutions Group (PSG) revenues of $645.1 million missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 17.93%. PSG revenues fell 26.2% year over year and 20% sequentially, which accounted for 44.6% of sales in the reported quarter.
In first-quarter 2025, ON’s adjusted earnings of 55 cents per share exceeded the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 7.8%. The earnings figure decreased 49.1% year over year.
Net sales reported $1.45 billion, down 22.4% year over year and lagging the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 2.9%.

ON’s Prospects Suffer From Macroeconomic Headwinds
ON Semiconductor suffers from challenging macroeconomic conditions and an uncertain geopolitical environment. However, the company believes current tariff policies will have a minimum direct impact on its business.
The industrial market remains weak due to higher inventory levels and cautious customer spending. ON Semiconductor expects low single-digit pricing declines in certain parts of its business to hurt growth.
On Semiconductor’s automotive and industrial business suffered from challenging macroeconomic conditions. These businesses accounted for 80% of ON’s revenues in the first quarter of 2025. Automotive revenues were $762 million, which decreased 26% sequentially and 25.1% year over year, driven by weakness in Europe and seasonality in Asia, mainly in China due to the Chinese New Year. Industrial revenues were $400 million, down 4% sequentially and 16% year over year.
Automotive’s first-quarter 2025 revenues missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 6.4% while industrial beat the consensus mark by 3.14%.
Restructuring Plan to Expand ON’s Margins
ON Semiconductor has been taking initiatives to expand gross and operating margins and generate free cash flow in the long term. As part of its Fab Right initiative, ON Semiconductor reduced internal fab capacity by 12% through manufacturing realignment that intends to lower its fixed cost structure. These actions are expected to reduce depreciation costs by $22 million annually. Rationalization of the manufacturing footprint is expected to boost gross margin expansion over the long term.
In the first quarter of 2025, ON started a company-wide restructuring, including a reduction of the global workforce by 9% and further reduction of non-manufacturing sites. These are expected to generate roughly $25 million of savings in the second quarter compared with the first quarter, with an additional $5 million per quarter of savings to be realized in the second half of the year.
