Chevron Corporation CVX has reaffirmed its commitment to responsible offshore development through its participation in the latest lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico. Shell also delivered a strong showing in the Gulf lease sale, underscoring its focus on responsible resource development and a lower-carbon future.
However, the industry participation was lower than in the previous Gulf sale, as out of the 15,000 blocks offered by the U.S. BOEM, only 25 attracted bids, which is significantly lower than the 181 blocks that received bids in the Gulf lease sale held in December 2025.
The auction still represents part of a long-term offshore leasing strategy supported by the administration of Donald Trump. The U.S. government plans to hold multiple lease sales in the region through 2040 to maintain steady development of offshore resources.

Exxon Mobil Corporation XOM has jumped 37.8% over the past year, outpacing the 33.2% growth of the industry’s composite stocks, and 27.1% and 22.9% improvements of BP plc BP and Chevron Corporation CVX, respectively.

The outperformance might reflect strong market confidence in ExxonMobil’s prospects, especially when the pricing scenario of oil is extremely favorable. However, for investment conclusions, one should have a thorough assessment of the company’s fundamentals, growth potential and prevailing market conditions.
High Oil Price & XOM’s Key Upstream Assets
The price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude is trading at more than $85 per barrel, according to data from oilprice.com, owing to the ongoing war in the Middle East. With XOM generating the maximum proportion of earnings from upstream operations, the crude pricing environment is highly favorable for XOM, like other integrated energy majors, such as BP and CVX.
To have a glimpse of its upstream assets, XOM has a strong footprint in the Permian, the most prolific oil and gas play in the United States, and offshore Guyana. In the Permian, the integrated giant has been employing lightweight proppant technology and hence has been capable of boosting its well recoveries by up to as much as 20%.
In Guyana, XOM has made several oil and gas discoveries, further highlighting its solid production outlook. Record production from both resources has been aiding its top and bottom lines. In both resources, the breakeven costs are low.
In its recent corporate plan update, ExxonMobil projects its total production from upstream operations to increase to 5.5 million oil equivalent barrels per day by the end of this decade. The energy behemoth added that its advantageous assets, which include the Permian, Guyana and LNG, will be responsible for 65% of the total volumes.
ExxonMobil’s Strong Balance Sheet
ExxonMobil’s strong balance sheet is also worth mentioning. The company’s debt-to-capitalization of 14.04% is lower than the industry’s 29.2%. Thus, when the business environment turns uncertain, the company can rely on its balance sheet to keep its operations going.

The integrated major, owing to its strong operations, is likely to continue rewarding investors with dividends. Over the past 43 years, the company has raised its dividend per share at an average annual rate of 5.8%.
What to Do With the Stock Now?
Coming to the valuation story, XOM is currently considered expensive on a relative basis, with the stock trading at a 9.70x trailing 12-month Enterprise Value to Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EV/EBITDA), which is a premium compared with the broader industry average of 6.08x. XOM is also expensive compared to other integrated giants like BP, currently trading at about 3.30x trailing 12-month EV/EBITDA. Chevron, however, trades at 9.87x and is hence more expensive.

Earnings Trends and Future Estimates
Hershey has established an impressive reporting history, surpassing earnings estimates in each of the past four quarters. The company most recently delivered fourth-quarter earnings back in February of $1.71 per share, which marked a 22.1% surprise over the $1.40/share consensus estimate.
The innovator of everyday treats delivered a trailing four-quarter average surprise of 17.2%. Consistently beating earnings estimates is a recipe for success.
Analysts covering HSY are in agreement and have raised full-year EPS estimates by 18.09% in the past 60 days. The Zacks Consensus Estimate now stands at $8.16/share, reflecting potential growth of nearly 30% relative to last year.
Let’s Get Technical
This market leader has seen its stock advance more than 20% already this year, all while the general market struggles to gain traction. Only stocks that are in extremely powerful uptrends are able to experience this type of outperformance. Operating via a vertically integrated business model, its products are used in commercial and residential construction across the country including builders, contractors, and infrastructure projects.
Key challenges remain for Eagle in 2026. Its wallboard business has been struggling lately due to slow housing activity. Wallboard volumes fell about 14% year-over-year in fiscal Q3, with prices dropping 5% amid price pressures. This is the company’s key exposure to housing starts, which remain challenged by high rates and affordability issues. The broader housing recovery is dependent on lower mortgage rates, which may remain elevated given lingering inflation.
Eagle operates in a highly cyclical business that is tied to residential housing and broader construction spending. As we’ll see, analysts have been cutting earnings estimates lately, putting downward pressure on the stock. Economic slowdowns or delays in infrastructure projects could exacerbate this pressure.
In addition, margins are experiencing compression as input costs remain volatile. The lack of growth potential in the year ahead simply doesn’t warrant a bullish stance.
The Zacks Rundown
A Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell) stock, Eagle Materials is a component of the Building Products – Concrete and Aggregates industry group, which currently ranks in the bottom 15% out of approximately 250 Zacks Ranked Industries. As such, we expect this industry group as a whole to underperform the market over the next 3 to 6 months, just as it has over the past month:
Stocks in the bottom tiers of industries can often be intriguing short candidates. While individual stocks have the ability to outperform even when they’re part of a lagging industry, the inclusion in a weaker group serves as a headwind for any potential rallies and the journey forward is that much more difficult.
EXP shares have widely underperformed the market over the past year. The lack of participation in the latest bull market signals caution ahead.
History of Earnings Misses & Deteriorating Outlook
Eagle Materials missed the earnings mark in three of the past four quarters. In its latest quarterly report, the company missed EPS estimates by 3% with flat overall revenue. This triggered cuts to forward guidance, contributing to fading earnings momentum and a lower Zacks Rank.
During the fiscal third quarter, earnings fell 10.3% from the year-ago period, while the top line also declined year-over-year. Consistently falling short of projections is a recipe for underperformance, and EXP is no exception.
The construction materials supplier has been on the receiving end of negative earnings estimate revisions as of late. Looking into the fiscal fourth quarter, analysts cut estimates by 17.68% in the past 60 days. The Zacks Consensus EPS Estimate is now $1.49 per share, translating to a 28.4% decline relative to the same period in the prior year. Revenues are anticipated to drop nearly 2% during the quarter to $461.6 million.
Falling earnings estimates are a huge red flag and need to be respected. Negative growth year-over-year is the type of trend that bears like to see.
Technical Outlook
As illustrated below, EXP stock is in a sustained downtrend. Notice how the stock has been widely underperforming the major indices. Also note that shares are trading below downward-sloping 50-day (blue line) and 200-day (red line) moving averages – another good sign for the bears.

Shell Secures Major Oil and Gas Agreements With Venezuela

UiPath (NYSE:PATH), a company that creates AI and automation software for complex processes, closed Thursday at $10.71, up 7.75%. The stock rose as investors responded to its Agentic AI Foundation membership and growing interest in agentic automation, while also watching to see if these moves lead to more revenue and faster AI adoption.
The company’s trading volume reached 51 million shares, which is roughly 76% above compared with its three-month average of 29 million shares. UiPath went public in 2021 and has fallen 84% since its IPO.
How the markets moved today
S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) slipped 0.53% to 6,909, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) fell 1.18% to 22,878 as growth stocks came under pressure. Among robotic process automation (RPA) software industry peers, Alcoa (NYSE:AA) closed at $63.47, down 2.20%, and BP (NYSE:BP) ended at $37.99, easing 0.26%.

Stock Market Today, Feb. 26: UiPath Advances as It Moves to Shape Agentic AI Standards

Golar LNG Limited (GLNG) reported mixed fourth-quarter 2025 results wherein earnings missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate and revenues surpassed the same.
Quarterly earnings of 30 cents per share missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 38 cents and remained flat year over year. Revenues of $132.8 million outpaced the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $116.1 million and improved 101% year over year.
Golar LNG Limited Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise
Adjusted EBITDA of $91 million improved 54% year over year.
GLNG exited the fourth quarter of 2025 with cash and cash equivalents of $1.15 billion compared with $611.17 million at the end of the prior quarter. GLNG’s share of contractual debt at the end of the reported quarter increased 80% year over year to $2.72 billion.
GLNG’s board of directors approved a fourth-quarter 2025 dividend of 25 cents per share. The dividend will be paid on March 18, 2026, to shareholders of record at the close of business on March 9.
GLNG repurchased and canceled 1.1 million shares during the fourth quarter of 2025 at an average price of $37.76 per share under its $150.0 million share buyback program. As a result, $109 million shares remains available for repurchase. As of Dec. 31, 2025, 101.3 million shares are issued and outstanding.

Golar LNG Misses Q4 Earnings Estimates, Beats on Revenues

SM Energy Company SM struck a deal to sell certain South Texas assets for $950 million in cash to Caturus Energy, LLC. The cash transaction, subject to customary closing adjustments, has an effective date of Feb. 1, 2026, and is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026.
Following the sale, SM plans to use the proceeds primarily to reduce outstanding debt, strengthening its balance sheet. A stronger balance sheet will position the upstream producer to better navigate commodity price volatility, pursue growth investments and potentially increase shareholder returns, enhancing investor appeal.
The deal covers approximately 61,000 net acres and nearly 260 producing wells in the Maverick Basin, Webb County, TX,along with associated infrastructure. These properties are projected to produce between 37,000 and 39,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2026, with about 45% liquids and 9% oil. The production profile is estimated to generate $160 million in cash flow in 2026. However, SM emphasized prioritizing deleveraging and capital structure improvements.

With West Texas Intermediate crude prices hovering above $65 per barrel, according to oilprice.com, the business environment of SM seems to be easing out. However, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) predicts the crude oil prices to decrease further in the coming days, implying that SM’s upstream business will remain under pressure going forward.

SM Energy Announces Divestiture Agreement Worth $950 Million

Eni S.p.A. E announced a major gas and condensate discovery offshore Cote d'Ivoire in Block CI-501 with the Murene South-1X exploration well. The latest discovery has been named Calao South.
Situated within the prolific Calao channel complex, known for its hydrocarbon potential following previous successful exploration, the Calao South discovery is the country's second-largest find following the Baleine field. The discovery made in high-quality Cenomanian sands is estimated to hold 5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 450 million barrels of condensate (1.4 billion barrels of oil).
The well is located in Block 15/06, about 8 km southwest of the Murene-1X discovery well in the adjacent CI-205 block, reinforcing the resource potential across the Calao channel area. Block CI-501 is operated by Eni and Petroci Holding, with Eni owning a 90% operating stake.
The Murene-1X well, drilled by the Saipem drillship Santorini to a total depth of about 5,000 meters in roughly 2,200 meters of water, intersected hydrocarbons within high-quality Cenomanian sandstone reservoirs, with nearly 50 meters of net hydrocarbon pay demonstrating strong petrophysical properties. A full conventional drill stem test is planned to assess flow and production potential.
Recently, Eni, along with BP plc, made another oil discovery at the Algaita-01 exploration well situated offshore Angola through its joint venture, Azule Energy.
Discoveries like these are expected to support Eni’s higher future oil production with increased cash flow, thereby strengthening the upstream business model and enhancing investor appeal.
With West Texas Intermediate crude trading below $65 per barrel, per Oilprice.com, the business environment for the upstream businesses of Eni S.p.A, which currently carries a Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell), appears to be softening. However, forecasts from the U.S. Energy Information Administration suggest that crude prices may decline further, indicating continued pressure on its exploration and production segments in the near term.
