This partnership between GS and TROW follows an executive order signed last month, aimed at expanding access to alternative assets for 401(k) participants, paving the way for broader participation in private market investments and enhanced retirement diversification.
This allows GS and TROW to leverage their expertise in private markets, grow assets under management, strengthen their position in the growing retirement solutions market and generate higher fee income through an expanded client base.
Private Market Ventures by Other Major Finance Firms
Other major financial firms such as BlackRock Inc. and JPMorgan have been enhancing their private markets capabilities to capitalize on rising demand and attract new clients.
Over the past year, BlackRock has invested more than $28 billion to strengthen its position in the high-growth private markets space. Further, BlackRock is targeting $400 billion in private markets fundraising by 2030, with an aim to double its operating income and market capitalization by 2030.
Likewise, in February 2025, JPMorgan announced an additional $50 billion allocation toward direct lending, solidifying its presence in the lucrative private credit market. Since 2021, JPMorgan has deployed more than $10 billion across 100+ private credit transactions, leveraging its extensive client base and vast origination platform.
Goldman's Price Performance, Valuation & Estimates
Shares of GS have gained 30.8% year to date compared with the industry's growth of 23.6%.
From a valuation standpoint, Goldman trades at a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 14.91X, above the industry's average of 14.65X.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Goldman's 2025 and 2026 earnings implies year-over-year growth of 12.6% and 14.9%, respectively. The estimates for both years have remained unchanged over the past 30 days.

The Zacks Analyst Blog Highlights Goldman Sachs, T. Rowe Price, BlackRock and JPMorgan

For decades, UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) could do no wrong. The company raised its dividend by an exceptional 7,266% from 2010 to 2025, while shares rose as much as 1,700% during this run.
But shares have fallen roughly 40% year to date as the company faces a host of problems, from the murder of Brian Thompson, CEO of major business segment UnitedHealthcare, to federal investigations into allegedly fraudulent Medicare billing practices.

Nonetheless, shares surged 12% on Aug. 14 after filings revealed Berkshire Hathaway had bought over 5 million shares.

Big growth potential for all segments
UnitedHealth operates through four segments. Its UnitedHealthcare segment provides consumer-oriented health benefit plans and services for employers. Optum Health provides healthcare management and financial services, while Optum Insight offers data analysis tools, consulting, and tech solutions to healthcare providers. Optum Rx is a direct-to-consumer platform offering pharmacy services and 190 million prescriptions per year to U.S. homes.
In its second-quarter report on July 29, the company reported quarterly revenue of $111.6 billion, up roughly 13% from the year-ago period. The trouble is with margins. For UnitedHealthcare, the biggest segment, operating margin fell from 6.2% in Q1 2025 to 2.4% last quarter. Combined, margin for the three Optum segments fell from 6.1% in Q1 2025 to 4.6% in Q2.
These declines are steep enough that, even with revenue on the upswing, earnings fell from $9.1 billion in Q1 2025 to $5.2 billion last quarter.
Rising medical costs are the chief headwind. In the July earnings report, new CEO Stephen Hensley acknowledged that UNH "significantly underestimated the accelerating medical trend," and medical costs totaled $6.5 billion more than anticipated.
But management is under no such illusions now. They're taking actions to boost efficiency and cut waste, from stepping up audits of clinical policy and payment integrity tools, to scaling artificial intelligence (AI) efforts to improve provider and patient experiences while driving down costs. Implementation of AI technologies is part of initiatives the company hopes can deliver almost $1 billion in cost reductions. Perhaps most significantly, the company is raising premiums after saying it underpriced Medicare Advantage plans in 2025.
In the meantime, each of these segments could grow significantly in the years ahead. UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual just rolled out services in its 30th state, while Optum Rx's growth outlook is 5%-8% annually. Optum Insight is targeting operating margin of 18%-22%, while the 4.7 million patients receiving value-based care from OptumHealth represent only a fraction of the nearly 340 million Americans who could fall under its 100-plus health plans.
It's not just Berkshire buying
Berkshire Hathaway's move in UnitedHealth is getting headlines. But billionaire David Tepper also scooped up 2.3 million shares, while Michael Burry of The Big Short fame bought 350,000 call options on the stock in a bet that shares would rise.
In addition, BlackRock, the world's biggest asset manager, bought over 1 million shares last quarter. Goldman Sachs bought over 1.1 million shares, while Renaissance Technologies (the fabled fund that achieved an average annual return of 66% for decades) bought over 1.35 million.
As for management, Stephen Hensley invested $25 million just days after becoming CEO, while the company's CFO bought another $5 million worth in shares. All told, the insider buying of UNH stock outweighed insider selling by a nearly 4:1 margin last quarter.
As the investing legend Peter Lynch observed, insiders can sell for many reasons unrelated to a stock. But they buy for only one: They think shares will go up.
Why UnitedHealth is a buy for retail investors, too
Berkshire officials haven't commented publicly on their rationale for buying UnitedHealthcare, but it's possible to speculate on their reasons.
Warren Buffett has called cash flow the most important metric in assessing a business's potential. In a 2000 letter to shareholders, he wrote that dividend yield, the price-to-earnings ratio, book value, and even growth rates "have nothing to do with valuation except to the extent they provide clues to the amount and timing of cash flows into and from the business."
Positive cash flow shows the company can cover its obligations, return money to shareholders, and potentially pursue growth and expansion. After floundering in 2024, UnitedHealth's trailing-12-month operating cash flow has rebounded to $29 billion compared to $24.2 billion at the end of last year.
And if price-to-earnings, dividend yield, and growth rates are only background clues to cash flow, these metrics seem to bode well for UnitedHealth, too.
The company's price-to-earnings ratio of 13.7 is cheap compared to the S&P 500,
with its average P/E ratio of around 26, while revenue growth of 13% year over year further fuels the bull case. Meanwhile, the company's recent 5.2% dividend increase -- its 15th consecutive annual payout hike -- brings its yield to 2.8% as I write this, nearly triple the S&P 500 average.
For investors willing to take a long-term approach and be rewarded with rising income in the meantime, UnitedHealth is a buy.

Berkshire Hathaway Buys UnitedHealth Shares: Should You Follow Suit?

Citigroup Inc. C has announced a new customized portfolio offering for its global wealth clients, appointing BlackRock, Inc. BLK to manage approximately $80 billion in assets. The offering, Citigroup Portfolio Solutions powered by BlackRock, is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to customary approvals and conditions. The agreement is not expected to affect Citigroup’s previously disclosed revenue or return targets materially.
Details of Citigroup’s Agreement
BlackRock will oversee a broad set of investment strategies, including Equities, Fixed Income, Multi-Asset Class, and, over time, Private Markets. The firm’s Aladdin Wealth technology platform, offering advanced risk management, portfolio oversight, and data insights, will be deployed to C’s private bankers and investment professionals.
Citigroup’s Wealth clients, whose assets will be managed by BLK, are domiciled in nearly 100 countries, reflecting the offering’s broad global reach. The clients will continue to maintain a primary relationship with their Citigroup Private Banker, who will guide strategic asset allocation, long-term financial goals, and the selection of investment strategies. Subject to ongoing review and monitoring by Citigroup Wealth, BlackRock will manage and implement specific investment strategies tailored to meet clients’ objectives.
Andy Sieg, head of Wealth at Citigroup, stated, “We want to bring best-in-class advice, solutions and service to our clients, and we want to serve more of the world’s changemakers. With this offering, we can accomplish both.” Sieg further added, “It brings together the sophisticated relationship-driven and market-based advice of our bankers, backed by the insights of our own Chief Investment Office, with the renowned investment expertise and innovative technology capabilities of BlackRock.”
Further, certain members of Citigroup Investment Management will transition to BlackRock to continue serving as portfolio managers for existing strategies. Over time, Citigroup and BlackRock plan to develop new investment products and solutions that will further benefit clients, leveraging BlackRock’s scale, infrastructure, and capabilities.

The partnership includes a minority investment by State Street into Apex and aims to deliver a fully digital, globally scalable custody and clearing platform for wealth advisors and self-directed investing platforms.
Apex powers above 200 clients and 22 million brokerage accounts holding more than $200 billion in assets worldwide. Its modular, API-driven platform provides the flexibility to build and scale innovative wealth offerings quickly, whether for high-net-worth advisory businesses or mass-market self-directed platforms.
State Street’s Scale Meets Apex’s Innovation
Through this collaboration, STT will integrate Apex’s custody and clearing technology with its institutional-grade infrastructure and global client network. The result will be a differentiated solution that allows wealth managers, fintech platforms and advisors to launch and scale wealth services more efficiently while providing a seamless end-client experience.
State Street brings significant scale to the partnership, with more than $3 trillion of assets reported on its Charles River Development Wealth platform and $1 trillion in wealth-related assets under management.

Strategic Implication of STT-Apex Partnership
This alliance marks a significant step for State Street as it seeks to deepen its presence in the rapidly evolving wealth sector.
Notably, executives from both firms emphasized that the wealth management industry is undergoing a period of rapid change, driven by innovation and shifting investor expectations.
Thus, by combining STT’s institutional scale with Apex’s digital agility, the two firms are positioning themselves to deliver the first global, end-to-end, digital wealth custody solution — an offering that may redefine how advisors and platforms serve investors worldwide.
STT’s Other Business Expansion/Restructuring Moves
State Street has been expanding its scale by undertaking acquisitions, business expansion and restructuring efforts. In May 2025, it collaborated with smallcase to cater to investors in India seeking global exposure. In April, STT partnered with Ethic Inc. to offer customized investment solutions to institutional and financial intermediary clients.
In February, it announced a deal to acquire global custody and related businesses outside of Japan from Mizuho Financial Group, Inc. Last year, State Street Global Advisors joined forces with Bridgewater Associates to boost its core alternative investment strategies.
State Street announced the acquisition of a 5% stake in Australia-based Raiz Invest Limited, a strategic partnership with Taurus and the completion of the buyout of CF Global Trading.
As part of its consolidation efforts, the company announced the restructuring of the nearly 20-year-old European component of the International Financial Data Services LP joint venture (JV) arrangement in Luxembourg and Ireland, consolidated its India-based operations and assumed the full ownership of its two JVs.
These, along with past buyouts and expansion initiatives, are expected to result in revenue and cost benefits, and help State Street expand its footprint globally.

Business Expansion Efforts by Other Finance Firms
BlackRock BLK acquired ElmTree Funds, LLC, a St. Louis–based real estate investment firm specializing in net-lease assets, to expand its private markets platform, giving clients broader access to alternative investments beyond traditional stocks and bonds.
The deal is part of BlackRock’s long-term goal to raise $400 billion for private markets by 2030.
Over the past year, BlackRock has invested more than $28 billion to strengthen its position in the high-growth private markets space. In addition to acquiring HPS Investment Partners, it purchased Preqin, a leading private markets data provider, and Global Infrastructure Partners, the largest independent infrastructure manager.
Fifth Third Bancorp FITB acquired DTS Connex to enhance its capabilities in cash logistics, infrastructure and risk management within its Commercial Payments business.
DTS Connex’s advanced technology caters to the needs of businesses seeking more efficient, transparent and controlled cash logistics management. By acquiring DTS Connex, Fifth Third will streamline cash operations and foster deeper collaboration across the cash ecosystem through advanced data sharing. The move reinforces FITB’s broader strategy to leverage technology and innovation, offering more integrated and advanced service solutions for clients.

STT Teams Up With Apex to Build Digital Wealth Infrastructure

Looking at the universe of stocks we cover at Dividend Channel, on 9/5/25, Flagstar Financial Inc (Symbol: FLG), Navient Corp (Symbol: NAVI), and Blackrock Inc (Symbol: BLK) will all trade ex-dividend for their respective upcoming dividends. Ex-Dividend Reminder: Flagstar Financial, Navient and Blackrock

BlackRock BLK has completed the acquisition of ElmTree Funds, LLC, a St. Louis–based real estate investment firm specializing in net-lease assets. As of March 31, 2025, ElmTree managed $7.3 billion in assets.
The deal is part of BLK’s long-term goal to raise $400 billion for private markets by 2030. The acquisition expands BlackRock’s private markets platform, giving clients broader access to alternative investments beyond traditional stocks and bonds.
The ElmTree buyout builds on the company’s acquisition of HPS Investment Partners (“HPS”), reinforcing its push into private credit and real estate assets. The addition of ElmTree strengthens BlackRock’s Private Financing Solutions (PFS) platform, reinforcing its position as a leading provider for companies and investors. As a commercial net-lease leader, ElmTree will help PFS expand its investment offerings, delivering long-term income opportunities for clients while supporting corporate growth across the United States.
Scott Kapnick, Chairman of PFS Executive Office and Founding Partner and CEO of HPS Investment Partners, said, “Combining ElmTree’s expertise in the commercial net-lease sector with our leading capabilities and scale further augments our ability to provide diverse investment solutions for our clients as we continue to capture the immense opportunities created by structural shifts in the capital markets.”
Over the past year, BlackRock has invested more than $28 billion to strengthen its position in the high-growth private markets space. BlackRock’s Efforts to Expand Alternative Assets Offerings
In his April shareholder letter, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink emphasized the company’s pivot toward private markets, suggesting the traditional 60/40 portfolio could evolve into a 50/30/20 mix of stocks, bonds and private assets to deliver stronger returns.
Reflecting this shift, in June, BLK unveiled plans to launch a target-date fund, offered through Great Gray Trust, that will incorporate private equity, private credit and other alternative investments. The company has also collaborated with Partners Group to combine a varied pool of private assets into a single portfolio of alternatives for retail clients.
Further, BlackRock is integrating private equity and credit investments into pre-built portfolios to meet the rising demand among individual investors. It designed model portfolios that combine publicly traded stocks and bonds alongside more sophisticated private equity and credit funds, with plans to add other alternatives over time. The company claims the offering to be the first of its kind in the asset management industry.
BlackRock's competitors in the alternative asset management business, like Apollo Global Management APO and Blackstone BX, continue to make substantial strides in private markets, scaling multi-strategy platforms, securing large third-party mandates and expanding into asset-backed and infrastructure credit as the market broadens globally.
Both APO and BX are leaning into evergreen and private wealth channels, while originating larger, bespoke financings that were once dominated by banks.
