I was nervous about my portfolio last week. You were probably a little bit uneasy, too. The best advice when the market is tumultuous is to hold through the volatility. A close second is to make the most of the downticks to add to your high-conviction stocks. Selling at a time like this is a lot lower on the list, but that's just what I did last week.
I sold my positions in Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ), Target (NYSE: TGT), and Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU) last week. Sometimes you have to sell in order to buy, but why did I choose these three investments? I have my reasons. I'll share them.

1. Verizon
I started buying shares of the wireless carrier giant three summers ago. Telcos were out of favor. Big investments in 5G technology weren't translating into growth. Reports started circulating, calling out carriers for the toxicity of lead-sheathed cable they buried underground ages ago.
The dividend was high, with a strong track record of rising. The stock was cheap, in a market that wasn't. Most of all, it felt as if Verizon was in an all-weather industry. Folks aren't going to give up their smartphones. The merger of two rivals three years earlier strengthened pricing power.
But Verizon's financial performance hasn't been impressive. Revenue hasn't topped 6% in annual growth for 16 consecutive years. It hasn't cracked 3% top-line growth in any of the past four years, and the future isn't looking any better. Analysts see 4% revenue growth this year, but falling short of 2% growth in each of the four following years.
The stock chart is diverging from that reality. Verizon stock is up 25% this year, trouncing the market with a 1% decline. The juicy 7% dividend it was sporting at the start of 2026 is now down to 5.6%. I added to Verizon over the past three years like a security blanket, making it the fourth largest holding in my stock portfolio. It stood out in my portfolio as a financial laggard. Now it stands out for its outperformance.
Verizon is the highest-yielding stock in the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI). It consistently cranks out double-digit net margins. It has 146.7 million wireless retail connections. With so many stocks I own -- and so many I want to own -- suddenly at more attractive valuations following the market pullback, I needed to sell something to buy something.
2. Target
Target stock is another security blanket I shredded last week. This is another meandering business delivering a chunky yield, with an even longer streak of annual payout increases than Verizon. It also happened to move higher early in the week, when most of the market was going the other way. A momentum investor would reward that kind of strength, but that's not me. I gravitated to the bull's-eye.
Target moved higher despite wrapping its third consecutive fiscal year of declining sales. A new CEO gives the chain hope, but turnarounds take time. The stock remains cheap, with its guidance calling for earnings per share of $7.50 to $8.50 in the year ahead.
Like Verizon, Target stock is up almost 25% in 2026. It's in an odd position of power for a business that has been losing market share. I may be back eventually for Target, but right now it was the means to a different purchase. If I can paraphrase Omar from The Wire, "You come at a Dividend King, you best not miss."
3. Baidu
Finally, we have Baidu. One thing the developer of China's leading search engine has in common with the other two stocks I sold last week is that they have all posted weak growth in recent years. Baidu has posted negative revenue growth in three of the past four years.
Another thing it has in common is strong recent returns. Baidu is trading slightly lower in 2026, but it's crushing the market with its 35% surge over the past year. The market has warmed up to Chinese tech leaders, as the world's second largest economy turns to homegrown companies to drive the next wave of AI growth, Despite its lack of growth, Baidu has been toiling away with machine learning and AI before they were cool.
I still decided to cut my piece of Baidu loose last week. Analysts see Baidu resuming single-digit revenue growth starting this year, but profit targets through at least the next two years have been moving lower. I turned to Baidu for international diversification, but there's no shortage of companies overseas that are growing faster.

Albemarle: While EV makers grab headlines, the battery supply chain is equally significant. Albemarle sits at the heart of that chain as one of the world’s leading lithium producers. Albemarle expects global lithium demand to witness a 10-20% compound annual growth rate between 2025 and 2030, driven primarily by rising EV penetration. Beem Global: The company is betting on the infrastructure that powers EVs. Beam Global develops sustainable solutions for transportation electrification, energy security and smart city needs. Its flagship product, the EV ARC — an off-grid, solar-powered charging station— requires no trenching, no construction and no connection to the utility grid. Its partnership with Uber marked a major milestone. The two recently launched a commercial robotaxi service in downtown Abu Dhabi, the city’s first AV deployment in its core area. The service now covers roughly 70% of central Abu Dhabi, with the fleet size quadrupling since operations began in late 2024.
Beyond robotaxis, WeRide is deploying robobuses for public transport, robosweepers for urban sanitation and a production-ready L2+ advanced driver-assistance solution for passenger vehicles. On the technology side, the company is also strengthening its ecosystem. Robotaxi bookings in China can now be made directly through Tencent’s WeChat super-app. In addition, WeRide recently introduced GENESIS1, its proprietary general-purpose simulation model. By linking physical AI with generative AI, the platform connects real-world driving data with simulated environments, helping accelerate training, testing and large-scale validation of autonomous systems. Top EV and Self-Driving Stocks for the Next Mobility Shift

Baidu BIDU reported fourth-quarter 2025 non-GAAP earnings of $1.52 per ADS (American Depositary Share), which surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 3.4%. The figure decreased 42% year over year. In domestic currency (Renminbi), the company reported earnings of RMB 10.62, down 42% year over year.
Revenues of $4.68 billion fell 4% year over year. The figure matched the Zacks Consensus Estimate. In domestic currency, revenues were RMB 32.74 billion, down 4% year over year.
Revenues from the Baidu General Business segment declined 6% year over year to RMB 26.11 billion ($3.73 billion).
Under this segment, Core AI-powered business revenue exceeded RMB 11 billion, accounting for 43% of Baidu General Business revenue, while Legacy Business revenues were RMB 12.3 billion. Revenues from the iQIYI segment rose 3% from the prior-year quarter to RMB 6.79 billion ($972 million).

BIDU’s Q4 Operating Highlights
The SG&A expenses of the company grew 11% year over year to RMB 7.39 billion ($1.06 billion) due to an increase in expected credit losses.
Research and development expenses grew 1% from a year ago to RMB 5.59 billion ($800 million), partially reflecting one-time employee severance costs to improve efficiency.
Non-GAAP operating income of RMB 2.97 billion ($424 million) was down 41% year over year. The non-GAAP operating margin of 9% contracted approximately 600 basis points year over year from 15%.
Adjusted EBITDA during the quarter was RMB 4.73 billion ($676 million), down 32% year over year, with adjusted EBITDA margin contracting approximately 600 basis points to 14%.
BIDU’s Balance Sheet & Cash Flow
As of Dec. 31, 2025, total cash and investments stood at RMB 294.1 billion ($42.06 billion) compared with RMB 296.4 billion as of Sept. 30, 2025.
In the fourth quarter, net cash provided by operating activities totaled RMB 2.61 billion ($373 million), while free cash flow turned positive at RMB 637 million ($91 million), a meaningful improvement from an outflow of RMB 2.15 billion in the prior quarter.
Baidu’s Other Business Updates
In the fourth quarter of 2025, Baidu's Core AI-powered business continued to build commercial momentum across three categories. AI Cloud Infra generated RMB 5.8 billion, with subscription-based revenue from AI accelerator infrastructure growing 143% year over year, accelerating from 128% in the third quarter. AI Applications produced RMB 2.7 billion, supported by sticky subscription models across products such as Baidu Wenku and Baidu Drive. AI-native Marketing Services reached RMB 2.7 billion, up 110% year over year, driven by growing enterprise adoption of digital humans and AI agents.
Apollo Go, Baidu's autonomous ride-hailing service, delivered 3.4 million fully driverless operational rides in the fourth quarter of 2025, with total rides growing over 200% year over year and weekly rides peaking at over 300,000 during the quarter. As of February 2026, cumulative public rides surpassed 20 million. Apollo Go expanded its global footprint to 26 cities, entering new markets including the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the UAE and South Korea during the period.
Baidu released an updated version of its omni-modal foundation model ERNIE 5.0 in January 2026 and restructured its model development organization into two dedicated teams to sharpen its application-driven AI strategy. The company also established the Personal Super Intelligence Business Group, integrating Baidu Wenku and Baidu Drive to accelerate AI application innovation.
On the corporate front, Baidu's board authorized a new $5 billion share repurchase program effective through December 2028 and adopted the company's first-ever dividend policy. The proposed spin-off and separate listing of Kunlunxin, Baidu's proprietary AI chip subsidiary developed over more than a decade, is progressing and is expected to unlock additional shareholder value.

Baidu's Q4 Earnings Beat Estimates Despite Revenue and Profit Decline

Legendary investor Warren Buffett advises to be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful. One way we can try to measure the level of fear in a given stock is through a technical analysis indicator called the Relative Strength Index, or RSI, which measures momentum on a scale of zero to 100. A stock is considered to be oversold if the RSI reading falls below 30.
In trading on Thursday, shares of Baidu Inc (Symbol: BIDU) entered into oversold territory, hitting an RSI reading of 29.1, after changing hands as low as $123.50 per share. By comparison, the current RSI reading of the S&P 500 ETF (SPY) is 49.0. A bullish investor could look at BIDU's 29.1 RSI reading today as a sign that the recent heavy selling is in the process of exhausting itself, and begin to look for entry point opportunities on the buy side. However, in the early 2000s, Nvidia’s GeForce Series graphic cards unexpectedly unlocked their graphic process units (GPUs) for scientific computing, setting the stage for the AI revolution. Today, and with several iterations under its belt, Nvidia has become essential to the AI revolution. Its powerful GPUs are lightyears ahead of the competition and are the foundation of the tech stack needed to train AI and large language models (LLMs).
AI: The Largest Infrastructure Buildout in History
Last week, Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s iconic CEO, delivered some noteworthy comments at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 in Davos, Switzerland. First, Huang outright dismissed bubble fears, citing rising spot prices (even for older GPUs) and the extreme difficulty of renting them. Meanwhile, although “hyperscalers” like Amazon, Alphabetand Microsofthave already spent hundreds of billions of dollars on AI investments, Huang predicts trillions of dollars are in the pipeline, ready to support the latest and most powerful AI models.
Wall Street analysts appear to be in lockstep with Huang’s predictions. Zacks Consensus Analyst Estimates suggest that NVDA revenue and EPS will each soar by more than 50% in 2026 and continue into 2027.
Nvidia: Blistering Growth at a Reasonable Price
Nvidia shares peaked in October (as of now) and have moved sideways. However, the company’s fundamentals have only become stronger. The result? Nvidia’s valuation metrics, such as its price-to-sales ratio, have retreated dramatically, making the stock attractive to a wider swath of Wall Street institutions, including those that focus on valuations. NVDA, which had a P/S of 200x in 2023, now has a P/S of just ~24x.
AI Will Expand to New Verticals in 2026
Large language models and chatbots like OpenAI’s “ChatGPT” and Alphabet’s “Gemini” provided Wall Street investors with proof of concept for the AI revolution. However, chatbots are merely the tip of the iceberg. Jensen Huang referred to physical AI and robotics as a “once-in-a-generation opportunity.” Meanwhile, TeslaCEO Elon Musk has repeatedly predicted that the company’s upcoming “Optimus” humanoid robot will be its largest product to date and potentially the best-selling product ever. While Musk and Huang’s bold statements may seem unrealistic, fading their opinions has been perilous. Finally, AI will begin to move into the application layer as complex AI models integrate into and disrupt the legacy software business.
Nvidia Inks Deal to Sell Chips to China
Nvidia has received approval to sell its H20 AI chips in China after signing a deal with the U.S. government. This marks a significant development for the company’s growth prospects. Under the terms of the agreement, the company will pay 15% of total revenues from H20 sales in China to the U.S. government. While this revenue-sharing condition may slightly impact margins, the deal opens a valuable door to one of the largest AI markets globally. The AI boom in China, driven by large tech companies like Baidu (BIDU) and government-backed projects, could create steady demand for H20 chips.

Although HUBS is still growing at a moderate clip (for now), its price action is telling. The stock is down more than 20% year-to-date, signaling formidable relative weakness. Meanwhile, HUBS shares are below the key moving averages and falling on heavy volume – a crystal-clear sign of heavy distribution.
