Management reported that these results meant “Record revenue of $454.7 million, up 140% year-over-year; legacy revenue of $219.5 million up 16% year-over-year”
Despite the revenue growth, gross margin dropped to 21% from 43% in the prior year, a significant decline. Management attributed this to high purchase accounting adjustments, $37.4 million in non-cash intangible amortization, and a much larger portion of service revenue, which tends to have lower profit margins than product sales. Operating expenses rose sharply as well, particularly selling, general and administrative costs associated with the acquisition and integration work, which were $97.5 million higher than last year. As a result, the company posted a loss from operations of $69.3 million, compared to a $23.1 million operating profit in Q1 FY2025.
Earnings per share on a non-GAAP basis dropped to $0.32, down 64% from $0.89 in Q1 FY2025. The decrease was due to both higher costs—especially amortization and acquisition charges—and dilution resulting from the increase in shares outstanding after the BlueHalo transaction. Adjusted EBITDA, which removes many of the acquisition-related charges, increased by over 50%, indicating some underlying improvement in core cash-generating ability when nonrecurring costs are excluded. Net cash outflow from operations was $123.7 million, compared to an inflow of $28.4 million in Q1 FY2025. The cash balance, however, rose sharply to $685.8 million as a result of financing tied to the BlueHalo deal.
The acquisition also transformed the company’s future business visibility. Funded backlog at the end of the period reached a record $1.1 billion, up from $726.6 million as of April 30, 2025. This reflects both the strong order book brought by BlueHalo and continued high demand for the company’s legacy unmanned systems portfolio. Bookings totaled $399 million. Management stated that, as of September 9, 2025, AeroVironment had “Visibility of 82% to the midpoint of the FY2026 revenue guidance range” This means a large part of the year’s projected revenue comes from orders already in hand, providing a measure of predictability for the next several quarters.
The company continued to invest in research and development (R&D), with R&D expenses rising to $33.1 million. This maintains AeroVironment’s longstanding focus on developing new technologies for defense customers. Among the newer offerings are the P550 unmanned aircraft system (an artificial intelligence-driven modular drone), the JUMP 20X (a vertical takeoff and landing drone), and Red Dragon (an autonomous, single-use drone). BlueHalo’s specialties in advanced RF, directed energy, and space-qualified electronics add significant new competencies, and management expects ongoing integration of these capabilities to open further market opportunities. Still, the cost and complexity of absorbing such a large acquisition have introduced execution risk, both operationally and financially.
The period also saw significant balance sheet changes. Total assets grew to $5.6 billion, up dramatically from $1.1 billion as of Q4 FY2025, mostly due to the addition of goodwill and intangibles from the BlueHalo transaction. Share count rose by 77% between April 30, 2025, and August 2, 2025, and long-term debt increased from $30.0 million as of April 30, 2025, to $725.7 million as of August 2, 2025. The capital raised provides flexibility but also brings a substantial increase in financial leverage and dilution for existing shareholders.

For FY2026, management maintained its previous revenue outlook of $1.9 billion to $2.0 billion. It projects continued losses, with a net loss of $77 million to $72 million for FY2026, and a loss per share of between $1.63 and $1.53. On an adjusted basis—removing non-cash and non-recurring expenses—management expects EBITDA in a range of $300 million to $320 million, and non-GAAP earnings per share of $3.60 to $3.70. The company stated that visibility to the revenue midpoint stood at 82% as of September 9, 2025. But actual profitability may remain pressured until integration costs and purchase accounting impacts begin to diminish.

Things have heated up this summer for Joby Aviation
Scott Levine (Joby Aviation): While Joby Aviation is still waiting for the final certifications from the FAA to start ferrying passengers back and forth with its electric air taxi service, it doesn't mean the company is sitting idle. Over the past couple of months, Joby has reported some notable news indicating that the company is working hard to hit the ground running when it receives the requisite FAA certification, making it an eVTOL stock that demands to be on the radar of any investor interested in gaining exposure to the nascent industry.
Most recently, Joby notched an aviation industry first when it completed an eVTOL flight between two U.S. public airports: Marina and Monterey, both of which are in California. Management lauded the accomplishment "a major step as part of Joby's commercial market readiness, highlighting key capabilities across safety, operations, air traffic control, and certification progress."
But there are even bigger developments that the upstart eVTOL company reported this summer. For one, Joby announced its plan to acquire the urban air mobility business of Blade Air Mobility. When the transaction closes (presumably in the next few weeks), Joby will gain immediate market access to infrastructure assets, as well as urban corridors in New York City and Southern Europe.
Diversifying beyond the civilian market, Joby announced a partnership with L3Harris to collaborate on developing hybrid eVTOL aircraft suited for defense applications. Should the partnership with L3Harris, a leading defense contractor, bring a defense aircraft to fruition, it will help Joby diversify its revenue base and mitigate the risk associated with the company's air taxi business.
For investors looking to land an eVTOL stock in their portfolios, Joby is a consideration they can't afford to ignore.
An interesting eVTOL stock you probably haven't heard of
Lee Samaha (Vertical Aerospace): As you can see in the chart, the British eVTOL company's market cap is a mere fraction of its U.S. peers' market cap.
Part of it comes down to Vertical Aerospace's short financial runway. According to CEO Stuart Simpson, "Our cash runway takes us into the middle of 2026 with our cash and cash equivalents as of today, approximately $139 million."
Another part of it is possibly the different regulatory path followed by Vertical Aerospace. The company is seeking certification for its aircraft with the U.K.'s Civil Aviation Authority and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency. After this, it will work on certification with the FAA and other regulators worldwide.
However, the good news is that the current capital position will enable the company to "begin the assembly of our next aircraft, our pre-production or certification aircraft, and continue to expand our certification aircraft supply chain." Vertical recently completed the first public-to-airport eVTOL flight by a commercially planned vehicle. It also has 1,500 preorders in place for its aircraft, including from American Airlines and Japan Airlines.
Vertical Aerospace will require capital to complete its aims, and there are no guarantees it will. Still, it offers an interesting option for investors looking to diversify eVTOL holdings, and potentially more upside due to its low valuation.
Shoot for the stars with this high-octane ETF
Daniel Foelber (Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF): The Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF has been on a tear -- up 36.2% year to date and 78% over the last year. According to Ark Invest's overview of the ETF: "The advisor defines 'Space Exploration' as leading, enabling, or benefiting from technologically enabled products and/or services that occur beyond the surface of the Earth, including autonomous mobility, intelligent devices, advanced battery technologies, 3D printing, reusable rockets, adaptive robotics, and neural networks."
The fund addresses the space theme across industries -- through growth-focused companies as well as legacy industrial companies like L3Harris, Deere, and Komatsu. And like other Ark funds, the ETF is not remotely market-cap-weighted -- meaning that the highest-weighted holdings will be the fund managers' top picks rather than the most valuable companies. The fund's largest holding -- Kratos Defense & Security -- only has a market cap of $11.5 billion compared to $420.3 billion for fifth-place Palantir Technologies.
Vertical take-off and landing plays into the "space theme," with Archer Aviation, Joby Aviation, and Blade Air Mobility combining for 11.2% of the ETF. The ETF has many recognizable names, but also some companies you may have never heard of -- like unmanned aircraft system maker Aerovironment and satellite giant Iridium Communications -- the third- and fourth-largest holdings by weighting. Again, since the fund isn't market-cap weighted, it can put more conviction in these companies and still have small pieces of megacap growth companies. The fund holds Nvidia and Alphabet, but they only make up 2.7% and 1.7% of the fund, respectively.
The Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF sports a relatively high expense ratio at 0.75% -- which is far higher than the expense ratios investors may be used to from passive funds. The key difference is that the Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF is actively managed and very nuanced. The higher expense ratio is the fee for the active management, but it has certainly been worth it, given the fund's epic gains.
All told, the Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF could be a good pick for investors who are interested in "space" outside just eVTOL.

(RTTNews) - Defense technology company AeroVironment Inc. (AVAV) Friday said that its profit declined in fiscal 2025, impacted by higher cost of sales and other expenses. Revenues, however, rose 14 percent from a year ago.
Net income attributable to the company was $43.62 million or $1.55 per share in fiscal 2025, down from $59.67 million or $2.18 per share a year ago. On an adjusted basis, earnings per share, however, rose to $3.28 from $2.99 in the prior year.
During the year, pre-tax income declined to $39.66 million from $63.23 million recorded in fiscal 2024. Adjusted EBITDA for the year rose to $146.4 million from $127.8 million last year.
AeroVironment said that annual revenues climbed to $820.63 million from $716.72 million last year, helped by a good performance in product revenues.
On the Nasdaq, the stock ended Thursday's trading at $249.73, down 2 percent.

Looking at the underlying holdings of the ETFs in our coverage universe at ETF Channel, we have compared the trading price of each holding against the average analyst 12-month forward target price, and computed the weighted average implied analyst target price for the ETF itself. For the SPDR Portfolio S&P 1500 Composite Stock Market ETF (Symbol: SPTM), we found that the implied analyst target price for the ETF based upon its underlying holdings is $85.60 per unit.
With SPTM trading at a recent price near $76.93 per unit, that means that analysts see 11.27% upside for this ETF looking through to the average analyst targets of the underlying holdings. Three of SPTM's underlying holdings with notable upside to their analyst target prices are AeroVironment, Inc. (Symbol: AVAV), NCR Voyix Corp (Symbol: VYX), and American Woodmark Corp. (Symbol: AMWD). Although AVAV has traded at a recent price of $244.44/share, the average analyst target is 21.22% higher at $296.30/share. SPTM's Holdings Could Mean 11% Gain Potential

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) today is up +0.06%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) is up +0.11%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is up +0.04%. September E-mini S&P futures (ESU25) are up +0.04%, and September E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQU25) are up +0.05%.
Stock indexes today are slightly higher, with the Nasdaq 100 posting a new all-time high as dovish Fed comments pushed T-note yields lower. The 10-year T-note yield is down -1 bp to 4.27% after Fed Governor Michelle Bowman said she supports an interest rate cut at the September FOMC meeting and that she favors three interest rate cuts this year.

Strength in chip makers is also a supportive factor for stocks today after Bloomberg reported that Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices agreed to pay 15% of revenue from China chip sales to the US government, which boosts optimism that chip export restrictions to China will be eased. Also, Micron Technology is up more than +5% after raising its Q4 sales estimate.
Gains in stocks are limited as hopes dim for an imminent end to the Russian-Ukrainian war. Markets last week initially found support on news of a Trump-Putin summit this Friday in Alaska. However, over the weekend, comments from Ukrainian President Zelenskiy dampened hopes for a quick end to the war when he rejected any talk of Ukraine ceding territory to Russia.
Stocks are seeing support from speculation that weaker-than-expected US economic news and recent dovish Fed commentary will push the Fed to lower interest rates as soon as next month. On Saturday, Fed Governor Michelle Bowman said she supports cutting interest rates at the FOMC's next meeting in September and that she favors three rate cuts this year to "help avoid a further unnecessary erosion in labor market conditions and reduce the chance that the committee will need to implement a larger policy correction should the labor market deteriorate further." The chances of a Fed rate cut at the September FOMC meeting rose to 89% from 40% earlier this month.
The price of Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) is up more than +2% at a 4-week high, boosted by strong demand from institutional investors and corporate buyers, which are helping to lift the entire cryptocurrency market. According to data from Coingecko, digital-asset treasury companies, listed vehicles that accumulate cryptocurrencies, have amassed a Bitcoin stockpile worth $113 billion thus far.
In recent tariff news, President Trump announced last Wednesday that he will impose a 100% tariff on semiconductor imports. Still, companies would be eligible for exemptions if they demonstrate a commitment to building their products in the US. However, the US will levy a separate tax on imports of electronic products that employ semiconductors. Also, President Trump announced last Wednesday that he will double tariffs on US imports from India to 50% from the current 25% tariff, due to India's purchases of Russian oil. Last Tuesday, Mr. Trump said that US tariffs on pharmaceutical imports would be announced "within the next week or so." According to Bloomberg Economics, the average US tariff will rise to 15.2% if rates are implemented as announced, up from 13.3% earlier, and significantly higher than the 2.3% in 2024 before the tariffs were announced.
The market's focus this week will be on corporate earnings results and any new trade or tariff news. On Tuesday, the July US CPI is expected to edge up to +2.8% y/y from +2.7% y/y in June, and the July CPI ex-food and energy is expected to climb +3.0% y/y from +2.9% y/y in June. On Thursday, weekly initial unemployment claims are expected to fall by -1,000 to 225,000. Also on Thursday, the July final-demand PPI is expected to increase to +2.5% y/y from +2.3% y/y in June, and the July PPI ex-food and energy is expected to rise to +2.9% y/y from +2.6% y/y in June. On Friday, July US retail sales are expected to climb +0.5% m/m and retail sales ex-autos are expected to rise +0.3% m/m. Also on Friday, July manufacturing production is expected to remain unchanged m/m. Finally, the University of Michigan’s Aug US consumer sentiment index is expected to climb by +0.3 to 62.0.
Federal funds futures prices are discounting the chances for a -25 bp rate cut at 89% at the September 16-17 FOMC meeting and 62% at the following meeting on October 28-29.
Earnings reports indicate that S&P 500 earnings for Q2 are on track to rise +9.1% y/y, much better than the pre-season expectations of +2.8% y/y and the most in four years, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. With over 82% of S&P 500 firms having reported Q2 earnings, about 82% of companies exceeded profit estimates.
Overseas stock markets today are mixed. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell from a 1-week high and is down -0.06%. China's Shanghai Composite rallied to a 10-month high and closed up +0.34%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 was closed today for the Mountain Day holiday.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU25) today are up by +3 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is down -1.4 bp to 4.269%. T-notes are moving higher on mounting speculation that the Fed may soon cut interest rates after Fed Governor Michelle Bowman said she supports an interest rate cut at the September FOMC meeting and that she favors three interest rate cuts this year. T-notes also have carryover support from last Thursday when President Trump nominated Stephen Miran for Fed Governor to replace Adriana Kugler for the rest of the year. Miran views President Trump's policies as disinflationary and would support a more dovish Fed policy.
European government bond yields today are mixed. The 10-year German bund yield is up +0.1 bp to 2.691%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is down -3.3 bp to 4.568%.
Swaps are discounting the chances at 6% for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at the September 11 policy meeting.
US Stock Movers
Semiconductor stocks are climbing today after Bloomberg reported that Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices agreed to pay 15% of revenue from China chip sales to the US government, which boosts optimism that chip export restrictions to China will be eased. ON Semiconductor (ON), Applied Materials (AMAT), Qualcomm (QCOM), KLA Corp (KLAC), Lam Research (LRCX), NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI), and Marvell Technology (MRVL) are up more than +1%. However, Nvidia (NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) are down nearly 1% on the news.
Micron Technology (MU) is up more than +6% after raising its fiscal Q4 sales estimate to $11.2 billion, plus or minus $100 million, from a previous estimate of $10.7 billion, plus or minus $300 million.
Cryptocurrency-linked stocks are climbing today after the price of Bitcoin rose by more than +2% to a 4-week high. As a result, Coinbase Global (COIN), MicroStrategy (MSTR), MARA Holdings (MARA), and Riot Platforms (RIOT) are up more than +3%.
Sapiens International Corp NV (SPNS) is up more than +18% after Calcalist reported that Formula Systems is in advanced talks to sell control of the company for about $2 billion.
Albemarle (ALB) is up more than +13% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 after operations were halted at a major Chinese mine, spurring speculation that the Chinese government might move to suspend other lithium projects to tackle overcapacity concerns.
Elf Beauty (ELF) is up more than +6% after Morgan Stanley upgraded the stock to overweight from equal weight with a price target of $134.
Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (KTOS) is up more than +5% after Canaccord Genuity initiated coverage on the stock with a recommendation of buy and a price target of $74.
Generac Holdings (GNRC) is up more than +2% after Jeffries upgraded the stock to hold from underperform with a price target of $200.
AeroVironment (AVAV) is up more than +2% after Canaccord Genuity initiated coverage on the stock with a recommendation of buy and a price target of $305.
C3.ai (AI) is down more than -29% after DA Davidson downgraded the stock to underperform from neutral with a price target of $13, citing preliminary earnings results that were "significantly below guidance."
Monday.com (MNDY) is down more than -27% after reporting Q2 cash and cash equivalents of $1.59 billion, below the consensus of $1.61 billion.
