The Zacks Consensus Estimate for first-quarter earnings per share has been unchanged at 35 cents over the past 30 days, which implies a decline of 53.3% from the year-ago period’s actual. Management guided earnings between 29 cents and 37 cents per share.

This timing dynamic is expected to create pressure on product margins in the first quarter.
Inventory-related dynamics are also likely to have influenced the quarterly performance. The company curtailed inventory purchases earlier as a precautionary measure following U.S. tariff announcements, which left it light on inventory and unable to fulfill some demand. Management also noted that in certain cases, demand exceeded supply, reflecting the impact of these inventory actions. Additionally, earlier-than-planned shipments of wholesale orders shifted some sales into prior periods, affecting year-over-year comparisons.

Since its time as a meme stock, AMC Entertainment (NYSE: AMC) stock has attracted significant attention. After a run-up in 2021, the stock of the U.S.'s largest movie chain lost around 99.8% of its value as ticket sales remain far below where they were before the COVID-19 pandemic.
At around $1.70 per share as of the time of this writing, it has fallen deep into penny stock status. With that development, the question surrounding AMC stock is whether it will fall to $0, or will it stage a recovery?

What investors should know about AMC stock
The most surprising thing about AMC stock is that the problems may be limited to AMC itself.
Indeed, the move theater industry has shrunk since 2019, when the industry sold about 1.23 billion tickets. Still, the multiplex isn't dead, and movie ticket sales actually increased in 2025, according to Statista. The 769 million movie tickets sold in the U.S. and Canada in 2025 rose from 760 million in 2024.
This helped boost AMC's revenue in 2025, which came in at $4.8 billion, a 5% increase from 2024 levels. Unfortunately, that led to a net loss of $632 million for the year, well above the $353 million AMC lost in 2024. That stands in contrast to rival Cinemark, which earned a profit in both years.
Worse, AMC reported a negative free cash flow of $366 million in 2025. This creates a dire situation for AMC, which currently holds about $429 million in liquidity. To stay in business, it has issued massive amounts of shares. Consequently, the outstanding share count rose by 404% over the last five years to almost 514 million.
However, AMC relieved some of the pressure on its finances when it refinanced $425 million of its debt in March. It paid off outstanding secured notes due next year with a 12.75% interest rate. Under the terms of the new loan, AMC will pay a 10.5% interest rate, with the loan coming due in 2031.
Although AMC will still have to manage a massive debt load, the move buys it some time. Additionally, the company reported record revenue over the Easter weekend, indicating its business is not dead. Still, it will take more than one strong weekend to revive AMC's business.
Is AMC Entertainment stock headed to $0?
Considering its debt refinancing and strong ticket sales over Easter, AMC is unlikely to fall to $0 in the immediate future, but investors cannot rule out such a scenario in the long term.
Indeed, higher ticket sales and more favorable debt terms are bullish for the stock.
However, the company appears to remain dependent on diluting shareholders to cover losses. Also, the fact that Cinemark can earn a profit shows that one can only place so much blame on the challenging business environment.
For now, investors should not expect a near-term collapse of the company. Nonetheless, until free cash flows turn positive and the share dilution dramatically slows, it is likely best to avoid AMC stock.

You're probably convinced that movie theaters are toast. It's too easy -- and comfortable -- to watch movies from home, if you can wait. Digital release windows have also narrowed on this end of the pandemic crisis. Even some analysts who follow the industry have braced for the worst, figuring that after decades of rolling credits, the multiplex will be the next industry to fade to black.
Not so fast. Have you seen how box office receipts are holding up, nearly a third of the way into this year? After a slow January -- when the biggest theatrical release that month failed to crack $65 million in domestic ticket sales -- folks are flocking back to their local movie house.

This past weekend, Project Hail Mary topped $80 million in U.S. box office receipts. That is more in its first three days than any January release cleared in its entire theatrical run. Earlier this month, Hoppers had the strongest opening weekend for an original animated property since 2017.
Domestic exhibitors have sold $1.56 billion in tickets year to date, 20% ahead of where the industry was last year. You have to go back more than six years -- pre-pandemic times -- to find the last time theater chains raked in the kind of money at the box office that they are right now.
There are several ways to cash in on the trend that no one saw coming. I narrowed down my list to three, and AMC Entertainment (NYSE: AMC) didn't make the cut. Looking at three entirely different parts of the business, I narrowed my list of the best stocks to play this unexpected renaissance. Rival chain Cinemark (NYSE: CNK), theatrical experience supersizer Imax (NYSE: IMAX), and multiplex landlord EPR Properties (NYSE: EPR) are three stocks I think are best suited to benefit from this industry plot twist that no one saw coming. And now, your three feature presentations.
1. Cinemark
Before digging into Cinemark, I owe it to the many AMC stock investors to explain why the country's leading movie theater operator lost out to a smaller competitor. AMC has done a few things right, getting folks to spend more for a night at the movies. It introduced reserved seating. AMC led the way in sprucing up its concessions, driving up what patrons are paying once inside to enhance the experience.
Unfortunately, AMC hasn't served its shareholders well by perpetually diluting the outstanding stock count. Its diluted shares have risen 34% over the past year, and that was actually a quiet year for its printing press. Its latest quarter was another disappointment. It managed to keep its year-over-year revenue decline to 1% despite experiencing a 10% slide in attendance, but its adjusted net loss widened by 27%. Free cash flow plummeted 71%.
AMC investors have suffered annual declines of 85%, 85%, 35%, and 61% since 2022, respectively. The stock is down another 35% barely into 2026. The shares have crashed 99.8% from their all-time high in the summer of 2021.
Cinemark is much smaller but also smarter in its operations. It's been consistently profitable for three years. In the same last five years that have seen AMC's diluted share count rise nearly 18 times -- not 18%, 17.8 times the number of shares it had at the end of 2020 -- Cinemark's outstanding share count has risen a more reasonable 15%. Cinemark pays a dividend and trades for just 13 times forward earnings. You probably know how that compares to AMC.
2. Imax
There are a few reasons to make Imax a top play in the secret turnaround that few believe is actually happening. Like Cinemark, Imax has been consistently profitable in each of the last three years. Its share count has actually declined since the COVID-19 crisis.
The $410 million in revenue it generated last year is an all-time high. Imax has an advantage in its business model. It helps multiplex operators deliver a premium viewing experience with supersized visuals and audio. Directors of big-budget films often shoot footage optimized for the Imax experience, making it distinct from other premium platforms. It's in a good spot. Folks are fine waiting for comedies, indie films, and romcoms to make their way to the home market. It's a different story for the superhero and action films that draw viewers of all ages to the local multiplex. The slate of Imax supersized films coming out in the next few years is promising.
3. EPR Properties
Income investors seeking to generate healthy payouts from the strengthening movie theater industry may consider EPR Properties. The REIT specializes in experiential properties, owning "eat and play" venues and amusement parks, but mostly multiplexes that it leases to other operators.
EPR has a current yield just above 7%, higher than the safer residential and commercial property REITs. It boosted its payout just last month. It's been trying to diversify from film houses, but if the revival continues, it can probably take its time as investors pass the popcorn.

The Multiplex Isn't Dead; 3 Stocks Laughing All the Way to the Bank

Opendoor Technologies buys houses and attempts to flip them for a profit, which is typically a very risky business model.
The company lost $1.3 billion during 2025, as tough conditions in the housing market made it difficult to achieve favorable prices.
Opendoor stock is down 53% from its 52-week high, and further downside might be the path of least resistance.
Opendoor Technologies (NASDAQ: OPEN) stock hit an all-time low of $0.51 in June last year, before staging an incredible rally that peaked at $10.87 in September. But the rally wasn't driven by the company's fundamentals -- instead, the gains were fueled by retail investors who whipped up a buying frenzy in the stock using social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit.
The stock has since settled at $5.08, and this renewed downtrend looks like it might have legs. Opendoor hired a new chief executive officer (CEO) last year who is trying to revive the company's languishing financial results, but he is aggressively pursuing a strategy that history suggests might not work.

Therefore, could Opendoor stock head back to its record low of $0.51? Read on.
A concerning track record
Opendoor buys homes and attempts to flip them for a profit. The company entices vendors by giving them a guaranteed price and a quick closing period of around two weeks. This is more convenient than selling through a real estate agent, which is expensive and can sometimes take months with no guarantee of success.
This business model is very fruitful when the real estate market is steadily trending higher, but it can result in substantial losses when housing takes a negative turn, because Opendoor often holds thousands of properties in its inventory.
Competitors like Zillow Group and Redfin learned this the hard way. Both companies shut down their direct buying businesses after the 2021 housing boom ran out of steam. It was a matter of survival in Zillow's case, because its direct buying business was losing so much money that it threatened to take down the entire company.
Opendoor has weathered the peaks and troughs of the real estate market so far, but it has never actually turned a real annual profit (on the basis of generally accepted accounting principles). In fact, it lost a whopping $1.3 billion during 2025, which was a staggering 231% increase from its loss in the previous year.
A not-so-new strategy
Opendoor sold 11,791 homes during 2025 and purchased 8,241 more. Management deliberately acquired fewer homes because of the challenging housing market, with U.S. existing home sales hovering near the lowest level in five years. Plus, according to Redfin, there were 600,314 more sellers than buyers in the real estate market last month, which makes it very hard for companies like Opendoor to move significant volume at favorable prices.
These challenges persist despite the U.S. Federal Reserve cutting interest rates six times since September 2024.
But the tough conditions haven't deterred Opendoor's new CEO, Kaz Nejatian, who was appointed in September. He previously held leadership roles at PayPal, Shopify, and LinkedIn, so he has a strong background in technology. He thinks Opendoor should be buying more homes right now, not fewer, and he wants to use artificial intelligence to streamline the process and flip each property more quickly.
Nejatian believes boosting volume will give Opendoor more market share, and thus more control over prices. Plus, because it flips homes quickly, their value is less influenced by changes in the broader real estate market. This will reduce the company's exposure to steep losses when house prices fall.
It will take several quarters to determine whether this strategy will work, but I'm not convinced it will turn the company's fortunes around. After all, Zillow was a very high-volume participant in the direct buying industry, and it still couldn't make the numbers work. This business model comes with enormous costs and razor-thin gross profit margins, so there is simply no room for error.
More downside ahead?
Opendoor stock is already down by 53% from last year's peak, and I think the slide will continue. Retail investors have used social media to trigger buying frenzies in many other stocks in the past, with GameStop and AMC being two of the most prominent examples. Most of them have shaky fundamentals, so they never hold their gains, and they typically go on to lose most of their value.
If Opendoor's strategy shift doesn't bear fruit over the next few quarters, I think its stock will continue trending toward its all-time low of $0.51, representing a further potential downside of 90% from here.

Using Google Trends, Surety First looked at the most-searched stocks over a 12-month period in each of the 50 states to identify the most popular in each state. The top stocks in the most states -- six each -- were Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) and GameStop (NYSE: GME). It shows how different regional trends are, given how different these two stocks are.
Coca-Cola and GameStop
Coca-Cola was most searched in Alabama, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Oklahoma, and South Carolina, according to Surety First.
Coke is one of the longest-held and largest holdings in Berkshire Hathaway, added by former CEO Warren Buffett in 1988 after the Black Monday crash. It has been a steady performer over the decades, as evidenced by this Dividend King's 63-year streak of raising its dividend. To qualify for that title, you need to increase dividends annually for at least 50 years in a row.
Coca-Cola stock is up about 14% over the past 12 months and 13% year to date, so investors in these states likely sought the stability of this stock amid market uncertainty.
GameStop was also the most searched in six states, including Colorado, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
The meme stock icon is about as different from Coca-Cola as you can get. Its mercurial, meme-fueled rise in 2021 captured investors' attention, but it crashed in 2022 and has largely stayed within a range of $10 to $35 per share since then, currently at $23 per share.
GameStop has experienced declining revenue, although massive cost cuts have improved its earnings. Investors in these states may be curious about a potential turnaround or another meme-stock rally, but they should proceed with caution.
Walt Disney and SoFi
Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS) led in four states: Connecticut, Kentucky, Louisiana, and West Virginia. Disney has been in the news quite a bit over the past year and not all of it good. It got a lot of attention for launching its sports package and its battle with YouTube TV, and longtime CEO Bob Iger recently announced that he is retiring at the end of 2026. Disney stock is pretty cheap right now, and it could be poised to break out after a challenging year.
The only other stock most searched in more than two states is SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ: SOFI). It was the most Googled stock in Montana, Texas, and Utah. The popular fintech was one of the top stocks of 2025, returning 70%, but it has dropped some 30% year-to-date on high valuation and the larger tech sell-off.
The most popular stocks in each of the two states include Visa, Tesla, Shopify, Palantir, Nokia, and AMC Entertainment.
Nvidia was most searched in California, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing in Arizona, Amazon in Washington, Bank of America in North Carolina, Google parent Alphabet in Iowa, Walmart in Arkansas, AMD in Colorado, Intel in Oregon, and JPMorgan Chase in Delaware. And in New York, it was SPDR, the exchange-traded fund (ETF) provider.

You Won't Believe What the Most Searched Stocks Are

Opendoor Technologies buys homes from willing sellers and attempts to flip them for a profit, which is a risky business model during the best of times.
The U.S. real estate market is in a rut right now with significantly more sellers than buyers.
Retail investors used social media to whip up a buying frenzy in Opendoor stock during 2025, but it could be set for a reversal in 2026.
Opendoor Technologies (NASDAQ: OPEN) stock delivered a return of 264% in 2025, but that only tells a small part of the story. The stock hit a record low of $0.51 in June before rocketing higher by more than 2,000%, to reach $10.87 by September, as retail investors whipped up a buying frenzy using social media platforms like Reddit and X (formerly Twitter).
Opendoor operates in the real estate sector, so with the U.S. Federal Reserve cutting interest rates six times since late 2024, a little optimism from investors might be warranted. However, this company faces some structural issues that will be very difficult to overcome, even with a new chief executive officer who's implementing a fresh strategy.

Here's what could be in store for Opendoor stock during 2026.
Opendoor's business model has a concerning track record
Selling a home is an enormous undertaking for most owners, which is why they hire a professional agent to manage the process. But not even the best agents can guarantee a timely sale, which leaves the seller in a state of uncertainty for weeks or even months.
Opendoor operates a direct-buying service. Willing sellers can enter some basic details about their home on the company's website, and they will be presented with a cash offer they can accept or reject. If they choose to proceed, Opendoor can get the deal closed in just a couple of weeks -- no open homes, no uncertain settlements, no fuss.
The company makes money by attempting to flip the house for a profit, which is straightforward when real estate prices are rising but extremely risky when the housing market is weak. After the last housing boom peaked in 2021, companies like Zillow and Redfin shut their direct-buying businesses because they were suffering substantial losses. In fact, Zillow's direct-buying service was losing so much money that it threatened the financial stability of the entire company.
Unfortunately, the real estate market isn't very strong right now. U.S. existing home sales came in at 4.35 million annualized units in December, which remained near a five-year low. Plus, according to data from Redfin, there were 529,770 more sellers than buyers last November, which is near a record high. It's very hard for Opendoor to generate sales in these conditions, especially at favorable prices.
Fortunately, the Fed's interest-rate cuts are steadily reducing mortgage costs, and President Donald Trump is trying to accelerate the decline by instructing government-controlled enterprises Fannie Mae (Federal National Mortgage Association) and Freddie Mac (Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation) to intervene in the market for mortgage-backed securities. Anything that helps jump-start the housing market will help Opendoor's business.
Opendoor continues to lose money
Opendoor sold 9,813 homes during the first three quarters of 2025, generating $3.6 billion in revenue. However, it only acquired 6,535 homes during the same period, as management deliberately reduced inventory in light of the tough market conditions. Therefore, we already know the company's revenue is likely to shrink in the early stages of 2026.
However, Opendoor's real problem is on the bottom line because it reported a $204 million net loss on a generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) basis during the first three quarters of 2025. Even after excluding one-off and non-cash expenses like stock-based compensation, the company's adjusted (non-GAAP) loss still came in at $133 million.
Opendoor had $962 million in cash on hand as of Sept. 30, so it can afford to sustain losses of this magnitude for the foreseeable future. That provides some runway for the company's new CEO Kaz Nejatian, who was appointed in September. He previously held leadership roles at Shopify, PayPal, and LinkedIn and has a plan to turn this ship around.
Nejatian wants to use technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) to speed up the pace at which Opendoor sells each home after acquiring it, which will theoretically leave the company less exposed to housing-market swings. He strongly believes boosting sales volume (and therefore, market share) will give Opendoor more control over prices, which will create a pathway to sustainable profits.
However, I'm not totally convinced. Zillow was an extremely high-volume player in the direct-buying market and still couldn't make the numbers work.
Investors should proceed with caution
The CME Group's FedWatch tool suggests there could be two more interest-rate cuts in 2026, which should bring more buyers into the real estate market. However, it's important to remember that interest rates were near a historic low when Zillow and Redfin exited the direct-buying business, so there's no guarantee lower rates will be a magic bullet for Opendoor.
Opendoor stock has already plummeted by 46% from last year's peak, and I think there could be more downside coming during 2026. Previous stocks that were swept up in social media-fueled retail buying frenzies include GameStop and AMC, and both went on to lose most of their value once the hype settled down. That appears to be the most likely outcome in this case, too.

The new Robinhood
Robinhood is a clever name for a company aiming to help the everyman get richer. It rose to fame with its free trades that attract the novice investor, and some infamy as it became the platform of choice for meme investors who generated some short-squeezes a few years ago.
It has moved past that to become a real player in fintech. Although its core product is its trading platform, it offers a large suite of financial services through its financial ecosystem, including bank accounts and a credit card. Its offerings are innovative, delivering a truly unique experience in its field, and its value-driven business approach appeals to savvy investors. Robinhood is adding new customers at a rapid pace, and it's monetizing them with fee-based products and a premium membership program.
It reported stellar results in the 2025 first quarter. Revenue increased 50% year over year, and although much of it was driven by a 100% increase in cryptocurrency revenue, it was also driven by higher sales of other trading products like equities, which were up 44%, and options, which increased 56%. There were many other highlights, including a 44% increase in deposits annualized over the past 12 months and a 14% increase in net interest revenue. Net income was up 114% from last year.
Funded customers increased 1.9 million, or 8%, to 25.8 million, and average revenue per user increased 39% to $145. It added 550,000 gold members, or 1.5 million year over year to nearly double last year's figure. Gold members pay $5 a month or $50 annually and get perks like 3% matching in individual retirement accounts (IRA) and 4% interest on uninvested funds.
Opportunities, risks, and valuation
The company is constantly releasing new products and upgrading its platform. It recently launched a slew of new services including Robinhood Strategies and Robinhood Banking, and it's rolling out more services internationally. It has more plans for the remainder of the year, such as expanding the crypto platform and continuing the banking rollout. It recently announced a new tokenization product for European customers that gives them the opportunity to buy tokens on a blockchain that follows certain U.S. stocks.
Robinhood is taking a fresh and even visionary approach to finance that resonates with a certain demographic, and that bold vision should lead it into many growth areas over the next five years.
However, there are several risks here. The first is the focus on cryptocurrency. That focus is somewhat responsible for Robinhood's meteoric rise over the past year, but it could equally bring the company down to earth if trends change. Investing in Robinhood stock is a big thumbs-up for cryptocurrency. If you have a lot of confidence in crypto trading, Robinhood could be an excellent way to get exposure while investing in a company that has tangible assets. But it comes with volatility.
Robinhood stock is also quite expensive, trading at a P/E ratio of 62 and a price-to-sales ratio of 31. Over the next five years, it could be challenging to keep up growth at that valuation.
If you have a healthy appetite for risk and are a fan of cryptocurrency, you may be interested in taking a position in Robinhood, which could be valued a lot higher five years from now. Investors with a low risk tolerance, however, should sit this one out.

Looking at options trading activity among components of the Russell 3000 index, there is noteworthy activity today in Builders FirstSource Inc. (Symbol: BLDR), where a total volume of 9,251 contracts has been traded thus far today, a contract volume which is representative of approximately 925,100 underlying shares (given that every 1 contract represents 100 underlying shares). That number works out to 58.4% of BLDR's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 1.6 million shares. Particularly high volume was seen for the $140 strike call option expiring February 20, 2026, with 1,317 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 131,700 underlying shares of BLDR. Noteworthy Friday Option Activity: BLDR, AMC, CEG

AMC Theaters and Netflix have long been at odds over the future of cinema.
The pair have been thawing icy relations with a couple of highly successful events.
While these mutually beneficial collaborations are likely to continue, the big picture remains the same.
Over the past few decades, there's been a paradigm shift in how audiences consume entertainment. Many viewers have abandoned broadcast and cable TV in favor of streaming services. This shift has coincided with a secular decline in movie theater ticket sales.
Leading the charge has been Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX). The streaming giant reported over 300 million global subscribers to close out 2024, although the company no longer provides updates on its subscription data. The company's insistence on shorter theatrical windows and "day-and-date" -- the practice of releasing movies to its vast streaming audience on the same day its movies hit cinemas -- caused a long-standing rift between Netflix and cinema operators.

AMC Entertainment Holdings (NYSE: AMC), the world's largest theater chain, opposed these practices, and CEO Adam Aron has long been one of Netflix's most vocal opponents. However, the past few months have seen a warming of relations, and a couple of successful collaborations suggest the tide has turned.
Let's examine what led to this change of heart and whether it bodes well for the pair in 2026 and beyond.
A meeting of titans
Late last year, executives from Netflix and AMC held a "high-level dialogue" aimed at finding common ground and ways for the companies to work together for their mutual benefit.
KPop Demon Hunters seemed like a good place to start. The Netflix original was already a global sensation, quickly becoming the streamer's most-watched animated movie before ultimately nabbing the title of Netflix's most popular film ever. It had spawned a Billboard No. 1 hit and become the first soundtrack ever with four simultaneous top-10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100.
Netflix had already engineered the highly successful KPop Demon Hunters Sing-Along theatrical event, which sold out more than 1,300 theaters during a special one-weekend event in August, reaching No. 1 at the box office. AMC joined in the festivities during a special Halloween rerelease, capturing more than 35% of all the attendance during that holiday weekend.
On the heels of that success, Netflix and AMC joined forces again to capture the zeitgeist of the streaming giant's global hit Stranger Things. AMC showed the series finale in 231 U.S. theaters, and to say the venture was a success would be an understatement. The event attracted more than 753,000 viewers to AMC cinemas, accounting for roughly half of all moviegoers for the Stranger Things event.
Demand was so high that AMC ended up with "nine times the available seating capacity allocated to Stranger Things than was originally envisioned," as it "repeatedly and exponentially added thousands of additional showtimes," according to a statement.
On the heels of this success, Netflix and AMC are looking for "more enticing projects ... in 2026 and beyond." Aron went on to say, "AMC remains committed to seeking mutually beneficial opportunities to join Netflix's award-winning content with the superb theatrical experience offered day in and day out by AMC Theatres."
The dawn of a new era?
While the success of these events is undeniable, several unresolved issues remain. AMC remains committed to the industry standard 45-day theatrical window, while Netflix continues to push for a shorter 17-day window. This divide was the biggest contributor to the rift in the first place, highlighting the differing priorities of the two companies. AMC is interested in filling seats, while Netflix wants its customers to renew their subscription every month, so it's unlikely the two will meet in the middle.
Indeed, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos have previously said, "Driving folks to a theater is just not our business." Some industry insiders have described the Stranger Things event as "something of an olive branch" to movie theaters, in light of its bid to buy certain assets from Warner Bros. Discovery.
Some theater owners fear that if Netflix acquires Warner Bros., it will shorten the theatrical window to 17 days across the board, dealing a blow to the industry as a whole. In a statement, Netflix said (emphasis mine):
There's been a lot of talk about theatrical distribution, so we want to set the record straight: we are 100% committed to releasing Warner Bros. films in theaters with industry-standard windows. While this hasn't been part of our business model until now, we are looking forward to bringing this expertise from Warner Bros. to Netflix.
So, is the warming relationship between Netflix and AMC a game changer? Based on the available evidence, I'd have to say no. The vastly different business strategies and secular trends will keep them at odds.
While it's good to see these titans working together, I don't see the big picture changing any time soon. While that's good news for Netflix investors, challenges remain for AMC.
