AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc., through its subsidiaries, engages in the theatrical exhibition business. It owns, operates, or has interests in theatres in the United States and Europe. The company was founded in 1920 and is headquartered in Leawood, Kansas.

AMC appears to be a company with a very cheap market valuation, but fundamentally that cheapness is underpinned by high balance-sheet risks and weak liquidity. The P/S multiple of 0.19 and near-zero P/E, P/B, and P/FCF ratios formally point to a strong undervaluation relative to the industry; however, for AMC these figures largely reflect instability in earnings, equity, and cash flow rather than a sustainable normalization of the business. TTM revenue remains large and even above the industry median, but the year-over-year trend does not look convincingly upward: after higher levels in 2025, the figure declined, which limits the case for a higher valuation. Gross margin of around 67% looks strong and stable, and gross profit remains significant, indicating the business’s ability to generate revenue at the operating-model level. At the same time, operating margin is very weak, EBITDA has fallen sharply, and net income remains negative, so earnings quality does not yet support a valuation premium. ROE looks high, but given the negative equity, this metric is not a reliable sign of sustainable efficiency and requires cautious interpretation. Liquidity remains a problem: a current ratio of 0.35 and the absence of a quick ratio indicate a strained short-term financial position. Debt burden is also heavy: long-term debt of nearly $4 billion, combined with negative equity and high liabilities, creates substantial risk for shareholders. On the positive side, the company does have cash on the balance sheet, and net worth according to the data is above the industry median, but that is not enough to offset weak solvency and unprofitability. There is no dividend, so investors do not receive defensive income while waiting for fundamentals to improve. Overall, the valuation picture is mixed: by multiples the stock looks extremely cheap, but in terms of the balance sheet, liquidity, and earnings durability, the risks remain dominant. Therefore, the target forecast should be adjusted moderately conservatively downward, acknowledging the low valuation while not ignoring the business’s and balance sheet’s structural weaknesses.

With The Odyssey cruising to $666 million in global ticket sales through its first 11 days of screenings, it's a lock to become the fourth U.S. theatrical release to clear $1 billion in box office receipts. It will join Toy Story 5, Michael, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, making this the first year since 2019 that U.S. studios have released more than three movies that grossed at least $1 billion worldwide.
Zoom out a bit more. Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens this weekend. The early critics' reviews have been positive. More importantly, the last film in this franchise, 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, was the only film to clear $1 billion globally that year. Even if it generates just a little more than half of the $1.9 billion of that film, it will become the fifth film to reach that 10-figure milestone.

We're looking at six U.S. movies clearing at least $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales, something that has only happened one other year in Hollywood's history.

AMC stock has been one of the worst performers over the past five years, down a brutal 99%. We'll dive into that a painful plummet, but pull up its 2026 chart. Shares of the country's leading multiplex operator are up 71% this year. The market is up less than 9%.
There are some good reasons for the stock's ascent this year. Unlike its past meme-stock rallies, fueled by the vapor of online hype that ultimately proved unfulfilled, AMC is in a better place right now. The industry is back, waist-high into the strongest year of ticket sales in seven years.
Folks are back at the corner multiplex, but that's just part of the story. Exhibitors are getting better at monetizing the increase in patrons. For AMC, this has come in the form of expanding its snack and beverage offerings. It introduced its AMC Stubs A-List subscription service in 2018 and enhanced it a year later by rolling out reserved seating at most of its locations. The pandemic snuffed out its early momentum, but it's in a groove now with timely promotions, blockbuster-specific merch, and a zest for making a night at the movies matter again.
Learning from past mistakes
AMC hasn't done right by its shareholders. It took advantage of its meme stock status to flood the market with new shares. As smaller competitors focused on becoming profitable and viable, AMC got distracted. The growing forum fandom became a dinner bell for side bets on NFTs, gold mining, and dilutive preferred shares. The lack of cost controls didn't help.
I'm not asking you to forgive AMC for the sins that turned a $2 investment five years ago into your two cents' worth. Its CEO somehow survived the slide despite increasing its share count 42-fold since 2019, and I'm not suggesting you give him credit for this year's rebound. However, why would you not take a closer look at the top dog in an industry that's sneaking up on the market with the mother of all recoveries?
This rising tide that has been lifting all ships is starting to lift the biggest boat. AMC posted an adjusted profit in the second quarter, only the third time since the pandemic. It may not be sustainable in the near term, but analysts who don't see a full year of profitability until 2028, something that hasn't happened since 2018, may be underestimating the turnaround.
The world never gave up on going to the movies, and the U.S. is coming around again. How else do you explain the popularity of horror films this year on shoestring budgets, the fluid cadence of upcoming blockbusters, and your own admission that you want to catch The Odyssey on the biggest movie theater screen nearby before it's too late?
Give AMC a second chance. This time, don't dwell on where it was. Focus on where the leading theater chain is now and where it's going.

Movie Theater Stocks Are So Hot That Even AMC Is Crushing the Market

Las Vegas Sands LVS reported weak second-quarter 2026 results, with adjusted earnings and net revenues missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate and declining on a year-over-year basis. Following the results, the company's shares declined 3.1% in yesterday’s after-market trading session.
The company’s results were hurt by unusually low rolling-play hold in Macao. Nonetheless, gaming volumes increased across all Macao segments, while Marina Bay Sands’ mass gaming revenues rose 5% year over year to $886 million.
LVS’ Q2 Highlights
Las Vegas Sands reported adjusted earnings per share of 59 cents, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 77 cents by 23.4%. In the second quarter of 2025, the company reported adjusted earnings of 79 cents per share.
Las Vegas Sands Corp. Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise
Quarterly net revenues of $3.15 billion missed the consensus mark of $3.37 billion by 6.4% and declined 0.7% from $3.18 billion reported in the prior-year quarter.
Las Vegas Sands’ Asian Operations
Macao operations generated net revenues of $1.79 billion in the second quarter of 2026, down 0.4% from $1.80 billion reported in the prior-year quarter.
Adjusted property EBITDA declined 24% year over year to $430 million from $566 million. Gaming volumes increased year over year across rolling tables, non-rolling tables and slots or electronic table games. However, unusually low rolling-play hold reduced Macao adjusted property EBITDA by $87 million in the reported quarter.
The Venetian Macao
Net revenues from The Venetian Macao were $591 million in the second quarter of 2026, down 10.9% from $663 million reported in the prior-year quarter. Our model expected the quarterly revenues for this metric to be $794.7 million.
Adjusted property EBITDA declined 30.1% to $165 million from $236 million reported in the year-ago quarter. Our estimate for the metric was $226.2 million. Table games win per unit per day decreased to $8,819 from $9,710 in the second quarter of 2025, while slot machine win per unit per day increased to $446 from $305 reported in the prior-year quarter.
The Londoner Macao
Net revenues from The Londoner Macao increased 10.6% year over year to $710 million in the reported quarter from $642 million. We estimated the metric to be $918.8 million.
Adjusted property EBITDA decreased 6.3% to $192 million from $205 million reported in the prior-year quarter. Our estimate for the metric was pegged at $200 million. Rolling-chip volume increased to $3.52 billion from $2.09 billion in the year-ago quarter, while non-rolling chip drop rose to $2.58 billion from $2.20 billion.
The property’s hotel revenue per available room increased to $254 from $242 reported in the second quarter of 2025. Occupancy improved to 96.7% from 93.3% in the prior-year quarter.
The Parisian Macao
Net revenues from The Parisian Macao increased 12.4% to $218 million in the second quarter of 2026 from $194 million reported in the prior-year quarter. We estimated the metric to be $193 million. Casino revenues rose to $165 million from $143 million in the year-ago period.
Adjusted property EBITDA decreased 13.6% to $38 million from $44 million reported in the second quarter of 2025. Our estimate for the metric was $46.7 million. Non-rolling chip drop increased to $816 million from $663 million in the prior-year quarter.
The property’s hotel RevPAR declined to $138 from $146 reported in the year-ago quarter. Occupancy decreased to 97.4% from 99.2% in the prior-year period.
The Plaza Macao and Four Seasons Macao
Net revenues from The Plaza Macao and Four Seasons Macao declined 29.4% to $137 million in the reported quarter from $194 million in the second quarter of 2025. We estimated the metric to be $228.8 million. Casino revenues decreased to $59 million from $122 million reported in the prior-year quarter, while mall revenues increased to $41 million from $37 million.
Adjusted property EBITDA fell 69.7% to $20 million from $66 million reported in the prior-year quarter. Our estimate for the metric was $82.8 million. Rolling-chip volume increased to $2.82 billion from $1.40 billion in the second quarter of 2025, while non-rolling chip drop rose to $839 million from $655 million.
The property’s RevPAR increased to $482 from $462 in the prior-year period. Occupancy improved to 95.1% from 92.1% reported in the second quarter of 2025.
Sands Macao
Net revenues from Sands Macao increased 33.8% to $95 million in the second quarter of 2026 from $71 million reported in the prior-year quarter. Our projection for the metric was $58.6 million. Casino revenues rose to $88 million from $63 million in the year-ago period.
Adjusted property EBITDA increased 22.2% year over year to $11 million from $9 million. Our estimate was $7.1 million. Non-rolling chip drop rose to $497 million from $389 million in the prior-year quarter.
The property’s hotel RevPAR decreased to $161 from $175 reported in the year-ago quarter, while occupancy remained unchanged at 99.4%.
Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
Net revenues from Marina Bay Sands decreased 0.6% year over year to $1.38 billion in the reported quarter. Our estimate for the metric was $1.11 billion.
Adjusted property EBITDA declined 10.3% year over year to $689 million. We expected this metric to be $731.9 million. Rolling-chip volume increased to $9.27 billion from $8.95 billion in the year-ago quarter, while non-rolling chip drop rose to $2.60 billion from $2.36 billion.
The property’s hotel RevPAR increased to $939 from $844 in the second quarter of 2025. Occupancy improved to 95.6% from 95% reported in the prior-year quarter.
Las Vegas Sands’ Operating Results
On a consolidated basis, adjusted property EBITDA declined 16.1% year over year to $1.12 billion in the second quarter of 2026.
Operating income decreased to $618 million from $783 million reported in the year-ago quarter, while net income declined to $373 million from $519 million.
Las Vegas Sands’ Financials
As of June 30, 2026, Las Vegas Sands had unrestricted cash balances of $3.38 billion compared with $3.45 billion as of June 30, 2025. Total debt outstanding, net of deferred financing costs and original issue discounts and excluding finance leases, was $15.11 billion compared with $15.68 billion reported in the prior-year quarter.
In the reported quarter, capital expenditures totaled $332 million, up from $286 million in the year-ago quarter. The latest-quarter expenditures comprised construction, development and maintenance activities of $215 million at Marina Bay Sands, $86 million in Macao and $31 million in corporate and other activities.
As of June 30, 2026, $29 million remained available under the share repurchase program. Subsequently, on July 21, 2026, the board increased the remaining authorization to $6 billion and extended the program’s expiration date to July 21, 2029.

Better-than-expected Q2 results
AMC's total revenue rose 14% year over year to $1.6 billion in the second quarter.
Attendance trends were strong, with six films generating domestic opening weekend grosses of more than $75 million.
"The momentum in the total industrywide domestic box office was undeniable, reaching approximately $2.99 billion, up 10.7% from last year's second quarter, making this the biggest box office quarter in seven years and the fifth biggest quarter ever," AMC CEO Adam Aron said.
Moreover, the operating leverage inherent in the theater chain's business model was on full display. AMC's adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) surged 70% to $321 million.
The cinema company's operating cash flow also jumped 70% to $235 million. AMC, in turn, produced $190 million in free cash flow, which helped to bring its cash reserves to $778 million as of June 30.
All told, AMC's adjusted net earnings improved to $104 million, or $0.14 per share, from a loss of $0.5 million in the year-ago quarter. That was well above Wall Street's estimates, which had called for a loss of $0.06 per share.
2026 is set to be a good year at the box office
AMC's increased profitability, combined with recent share offerings, is enabling it to strengthen its balance sheet by paying down debt. That's reducing the company's interest expenses, which is further bolstering its cash flow generation. In all, AMC has paid off a whopping $1.7 billion in debt since the end of 2020.
Better still, the recent blockbuster-like performance of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey bodes well for an exciting slate of upcoming films, including Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Dune: Part Three, and Avengers: Doomsday.
"We believe that movie theatres will enjoy, in the full twelve months of 2026, their strongest yet post-pandemic year, at both the domestic and the global box office," Aron said.

Netflix NFLX stock fell more than 8% in after-hours trading on Thursday as the company missed second-quarter 2026 revenue expectations and issued lower guidance for 2026. Investor skepticism remains high amid competitive pressures and a failed Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition bid.
The company reported second-quarter 2026 earnings per share of 80 cents, which increased 11.1% from 72 cents reported in the year-ago quarter. The figure beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.27%.
Quarterly revenues increased 13.4% year over year (12% on an F/X-neutral basis) to $12.56 billion, in line with the company's forecast. The figure missed the consensus mark by 0.1%.
Management attributed the revenue growth primarily to membership growth, pricing and increased advertising revenues, with double-digit revenue growth delivered across all regions. Netflix continues to withhold quarterly membership numbers.
Revenue growth was strongest in Latin America (up 21% year over year, or 16% F/X-neutral) and Asia-Pacific (up 16%, or 18% F/X-neutral), followed by EMEA (up 14%, or 11% F/X-neutral) and the United States and Canada (up 10%). Management noted that UCAN growth reflected only a partial-quarter impact from its recent price change, which it said "has gone well and as expected."
The company reiterated that its first-half price changes across markets, including the United States, Mexico and Spain, performed consistently with prior increases and internal expectations. Advertising revenues remained on track to reach roughly $3 billion in 2026, about double the 2025 level.

NFLX Profitability Reflects Higher Content Amortization
Operating income rose 11% year over year to $4.19 billion. Operating margin came in at 33.4%, down from 34.1% in the year-earlier quarter, though slightly ahead of the company's own forecast due to the timing of expenses. The operating income grew slower than revenues because content amortization growth is front-loaded in the first half of the year; amortization is expected to decelerate in the back half and rise about 10% for full-year 2026.
Net income for the quarter was $3.4 billion, up from $3.13 billion a year ago. The letter noted that free cash flow and cash tax payments in the quarter were affected in part by the terminated Warner Bros. transaction, for which Netflix had recognized a $2.8 billion termination fee in the first quarter.
NFLX Cash Flow Declines on Higher Cash Taxes
Net cash provided by operating activities was $1.74 billion in the quarter, down from $2.42 billion a year earlier. Free cash flow fell to $1.53 billion from $2.27 billion in the prior-year quarter, which the company attributed to higher cash tax payments, due in part to the Warner Bros. termination fee. For the full year, Netflix continues to expect free cash flow of approximately $12.5 billion and a cash content spend-to-amortization ratio of roughly 1.1x.
On the balance sheet, Netflix ended the quarter with $9.1 billion in cash and cash equivalents and $14.4 billion in gross debt (non-GAAP net debt of $5.2 billion). The company has $1 billion of debt maturing later this year, which it plans to refinance. In April, Netflix's board authorized an additional $25 billion in share repurchases on top of the $6.8 billion of capacity remaining at the end of the first quarter. Netflix repurchased $4.7 billion of stock in the quarter — its largest quarterly buyback on record — leaving $27.1 billion remaining under its authorization.
NFLX Narrows 2026 Guidance
Netflix narrowed its full-year 2026 revenue outlook to $51.0-$51.4 billion (from $50.7-$51.7 billion previously), suggesting 13-14% growth, while maintaining its operating margin target of 31.5%. For the third quarter, the company forecasts revenues of $12.86 billion, reflecting 12% growth (11% F/X-neutral), and an operating margin of 33.2%, versus 28.2% in the year-ago quarter. Management said the second quarter marked the highest year-over-year content amortization growth rate expected in 2026, with deceleration to mid-to-high single-digit growth anticipated in the second half.
Notable Q2 2026 Developments
Netflix made a significant change to how it discloses engagement, announcing that after releasing its semi-annual "What We Watched" report for the first half of 2026 — which showed members watched more than 97 billion hours, up 2% year over year despite competition from the Winter Olympics and World Cup — it will shift to publishing the report annually, starting in the first quarter of 2027. The company said the goal is to keep quarterly earnings focused on its primary financial metrics of revenue and operating profit, though it will continue reporting weekly Top 10 lists and title-level view-hours data.

Netflix Q2 Earnings Beat, Stock Falls on Revenue Miss, Lower Outlook

AMC Entertainment Holdings (NYSE:AMC), a theatrical motion picture exhibition and cinema operations provider, closed at $1.72, down 1.15%. AMC stock pushed upward in June on strong summer attendance, but has struggled since the firm’s equity offer.
Trading volume reached 52.6 million shares, coming in about 35% above its three-month average of 39.0 million shares. AMC Entertainment Holdings IPO'd in 2013 and has fallen 99% since going public.

The group decided to rally behind Wendy's as an institution worth "saving."
Much like GameStop and AMC a few years ago, Wendy's was the perfect fit for the meme-stock lovers. As a brand that has underperformed for quite some time and is heavily shorted, Wendy's has gained support from activist Redditors. Can Wendy's make a serious comeback?
First, Wendy's just named industry veteran Steve Cirulis as chief financial officer and chief strategy officer. He and CEO Bob Wright previously worked together to turn around Potbelly Sandwich Works. During their time at Potbelly, shares climbed more than 500%. Their strategy with Wendy's could potentially have similar positive results.
Secondly, Wendy's expansion plans, particularly in China, could be an important growth engine for the company, as the U.S. market is largely saturated. Chinese consumers have really embraced American fast food over the past decade, but competition is increasing there as well.
It won't be easy for Wendy's
The path forward is still quite steep for Wendy's. It is significantly trailing the competition in foot traffic, and same-store sales are in a prolonged slump. Meme stock rallies are also notoriously volatile and unpredictable.
For investors, it's important to remember to focus on the company's financials and strategy execution. Wendy's is primed for a turnaround, but it'll neither be quick nor based on viral Reddit posts. Time will tell if the turnaround plan is truly working in the coming quarters.
