Apple Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets smartphones, personal computers, tablets, wearables, and accessories worldwide. The company offers iPhone, a line of smartphones; Mac, a line of personal computers; iPad, a line of multi-purpose tablets; and wearables, home, and accessories comprising AirPods, Apple TV, Apple Watch, Beats products, and HomePod. It also provides AppleCare support and cloud services; and operates various platforms, including the App Store that allow customers to discover and download applications and digital content, such as books, music, video, games, and podcasts. In addition, the company offers various services, such as Apple Arcade, a game subscription service; Apple Fitness+, a personalized fitness service; Apple Music, which offers users a curated listening experience with on-demand radio stations; Apple News+, a subscription news and magazine service; Apple TV+, which offers exclusive original content; Apple Card, a co-branded credit card; and Apple Pay, a cashless payment service, as well as licenses its intellectual property. The company serves consumers, and small and mid-sized businesses; and the education, enterprise, and government markets. It distributes third-party applications for its products through the App Store. The company also sells its products through its retail and online stores, and direct sales force; and third-party cellular network carriers, wholesalers, retailers, and resellers. Apple Inc. was founded in 1976 and is headquartered in Cupertino, California.

Apple remains a high-quality business with very strong profitability, but the market is already pricing in an almost perfect scenario. Gross profit margin is around 47.9%, operating margin is 32.6%, and net margin is 27.2%, and all three metrics look stronger than the industry and fairly stable over the years. ROE, ROA, ROI, and return on tangible equity are at extremely high levels, confirming capital efficiency and the ability to generate profit on the basis of large revenue. Revenue, operating income, net income, and EBITDA remain very large in absolute terms, and the cash position is strong: cash on hand is about $68.5 billion with growing equity. At the same time, liquidity is not ideal: the quick ratio and current ratio are only slightly above 1, meaning there is a cushion, but it does not look excessive. The debt burden is moderate in absolute terms and declining, but debt/equity is still above the typical industry base, so the debt factor cannot be ignored. The main limiting factor for valuation is the very high multiples: P/S, P/B, and P/FCF are noticeably above the industry median, while P/E remains elevated, even if it is close to the sector average. This means the quality of the business is already well reflected in the market capitalization, and the potential for further rerating is limited. The dividend yield of about 0.09% is too low to materially support the investment case through income. Over time, the business quality appears generally stable, but the multiples remain expensive, which usually limits upside over a one-year horizon. Therefore, the fundamental picture for an investor is rather neutral-to-positive in terms of quality, but with a cautious conclusion on valuation: the company is strong, but the current price looks demanding in terms of future growth.

The case for Nvidia
Nvidia has profited for years by being the go-to provider of GPUs for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. Tech giants will spend an estimated $750 billion this year and could increase that spending next year. The company enjoys 86% of the AI data center GPU market, making it the undisputed leader ahead of Intel and Advanced Micro Devices.
And its sales and earnings have followed. Even with some of its growth slowing, Nvidia's sales increased 86% to $81.6 billion, and its net income of $1.87 per share in the first quarter of fiscal 2027 (which ended April 26) surged 140% from the year-ago quarter.
While its share price has been a bit volatile lately, Nvidia's position in the AI space is unrivaled, and management believes there's plenty more good times ahead. CEO Jensen Huang said on the first-quarter earnings call: "Demand has gone parabolic. The reason is simple: Agentic AI has arrived. AI can now do productive and valuable work."
What's intriguing about Nvidia right now is that the company is also looking to future opportunities. Management recently revealed more details about its next-generation Vera central processing units (CPUs) for AI, which will directly compete with Intel and AMD CPUs.
It's a bold move for Nvidia, considering that Intel and AMD have the vast majority of the CPU market right now. But the company has likely noticed that tech companies are increasingly interested in efficient CPUs that can process AI agent computing needs quickly. It's still early, but it is positioning itself to potentially benefit from CPU demand in the coming years.
The icing on the cake is that, even with its new CPU opportunities, GPU dominance, and impressive earnings, its shares are still well priced. Nvidia stock has a price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of 32, slightly below the tech sector's average P/E of 33.
The case for Apple
While many of Apple's peers are pouring hundreds of billions of dollars into expanding data centers and building AI models, Apple has taken a very different approach. It's doubling down on its high-margin devices and subscription sales strategy, all while maintaining its impressive free cash flow.
But that doesn't mean the company isn't benefiting from an increasingly AI-dominant tech industry. Consider that Apple's upcoming Siri update, called Siri AI, will require more-advanced iPhones to run it. It already has 1.5 billion iPhones worldwide, and some analysts believe the improved Siri AI (which uses Google Gemini as its underlying model) will create an upgrade supercycle for the devices. Even if a fraction of current iPhone owners upgraded, it would result in impressive sales, considering iPhone revenue was nearly $210 billion in fiscal 2025.
What's more, Apple says higher usage limits (such as more image-generation capabilities) will be available to users on higher-priced tiers of its iCloud+ subscription plan. Management hasn't outlined the details of the subscription yet, but Wedbush analyst Dan Ives estimates AI services could eventually add $15 billion annually to the company's services revenue. That's on top of services sales (which include subscriptions) of $109 billion in 2025.
Investors have been drawn to Apple lately because the company isn't spending piles of cash to win the AI race. This is allowing it to keep its free cash flow of about $101 billion right now, while its peers are blowing through their cash.
Verdict: Nvidia wins by a hair
I'm a big fan of Apple, and I believe it has unique benefits for investors in the AI age. But I believe Nvidia's position in the GPU market, its expansion into CPUs, and the current spending boom that's underway for data centers mean there are more growth opportunities for the company. I think both stocks are a good buy right now, but Nvidia has the slight advantage as tech giants expand their data center infrastructure.

Better Buy Amid the Tech Crown Shift : Apple vs. Nvidia

Apple’s AAPL third-quarter fiscal 2026 results, to be reported on July 30, are expected to have benefited from sustained demand for the iPhone 17 family and the more affordable iPhone 17e. The lineup delivered 22% year-over-year growth in the second quarter of fiscal 2026, supported by higher sales of Pro models, record upgrader activity and market-share gains. Demand remained strong across the United States, Greater China, Europe, India, Japan and Southeast Asia.
Apple Intelligence integration, advanced cameras, improved battery life and A19-series processors are likely to have encouraged upgrades. New accessibility capabilities, including AI-powered VoiceOver, Magnifier and natural-language Voice Control, further enhance the utility of the iPhone. However, growth could moderate sequentially following the exceptionally strong fiscal second quarter performance.
The iPhone accounted for 51.3% of net sales in the second quarter of fiscal 2026. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal third-quarter iPhone sales is pegged at $53.967 billion, suggesting roughly 21.1% year-over-year growth.

AAPL’s MacBook Demand Expected to Remain Robust
Mac revenues are expected to have benefited from strong demand for the MacBook Neo, M5-powered MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models featuring M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. Mac sales increased 6% year over year in the second quarter of fiscal 2026, driven primarily by higher laptop sales, while the installed base and the number of customers new to Mac reached records.
Apple Silicon’s ability to run advanced AI models locally is strengthening Mac adoption among developers, enterprises and educational institutions. MacBook Neo’s lower price is also expanding Apple’s addressable market. Nevertheless, Mac performance is likely to have been constrained by limited availability of advanced semiconductor nodes. Apple indicated that several Mac models would remain supply constrained during the third quarter of fiscal 2026 because demand exceeded expectations.
The PC segment climbed up 4.9% in the second quarter of calendar 2026, according to IDC. Apple had a market share of 9.9%, up 140 basis points (bps) on a year-over-year basis. Shipments grew 10.1% year over year to 6.7 million. In terms of shipments, Apple outperformed Dell Technologies DELL, Lenovo LNVGY and HP HPQ. Shipments of Dell, Lenovo and HP declined 2.1%, 5%, and 9%, respectively, per IDC data. Dell, Lenovo and HP have market shares of 13.6%, 24.4% and 19.1%, respectively.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal third-quarter Mac sales is pegged at $8.674 billion, suggesting 7.8% year-over-year growth.
AAPL iPad Revenues Likely to Face a Difficult Comparison
iPad revenues are expected to have benefited from demand for the M4-powered iPad Air, the A16-powered entry-level iPad and the M5-powered iPad Pro. In the fiscal second quarter, iPad sales increased 8% year over year, while more than half of buyers were new to the product. Strong adoption in emerging markets, including India, Mexico and Thailand, is likely to have supported the segment.
Enhanced Apple Intelligence and accessibility features, including natural-language Voice Control, Accessibility Reader and privately generated video subtitles, should improve iPad’s appeal for education, productivity and creative workloads. However, Apple warned that the segment faced a difficult year-over-year comparison because the A16-powered iPad was introduced in the prior-year quarter. Consequently, iPad revenues may have declined or posted only modest growth.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal third-quarter iPad sales is pegged at $8.674 billion, suggesting 5.1% year-over-year growth.
Apple's Wearables Expected to Register Modest Growth
Wearables, Home and Accessories revenues are expected to have benefited from demand for Apple Watch Ultra 3, Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch SE, AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Max 2. The category grew 5% year over year in the second quarter of fiscal 2026, driven by higher wearables and accessories sales. The wearables installed base reached a record, with more than half of Apple Watch buyers being new to the product.
Apple Watch’s health and fitness capabilities and AirPods’ intelligent features, including Live Translation, are likely to have supported demand. The wider integration of Apple Intelligence and accessibility functions across Apple devices may also strengthen ecosystem engagement.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal third-quarter Wearables, Home and Accessories sales is pegged at $7.805 billion, suggesting 5.4% year-over-year growth.

Apple's Q3 Earnings: Strong iPhone 17 Shipment to Aid Top-Line Growth

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) officially launched its Apple Upgrade leasing program this week, allowing customers to pay monthly for iPhones, Apple Watches, Macs, and iPads. Payments start at $17.99 per month, giving customers the financial flexibility to upgrade their devices more frequently without making lump-sum payments.
To be clear, this could be a big deal for Apple. Leasing payments are significantly lower than the company's old upgrade program, so this could boost sales by encouraging customers to not only upgrade more frequently, but to lease higher-end devices than they would ordinarily buy outright.

Leases run 12-24 months for iPhone and Apple Watch products, and 24-36 months for Mac and iPad. Meanwhile, the average traded-in iPhone today is about 3.6 years old, according to Assurant data. This means customers could upgrade their iPhones twice as often as they do today, which could be a major boost to Apple's new device sales.
However, the biggest winner here might not be Apple, but the company running the leasing program.
Apple's leasing partner
Apple's new leasing partner is the buy-now, pay-later (BNPL) financing leader, Klarna (NYSE: KLAR).
Klarna is providing the financial infrastructure for the Apple Upgrade program. It will legally own the leased devices throughout the term, and at the end of the lease, customers can pay a residual fee to keep them, return them, or upgrade to the newest model. Klarna pays Apple for the device upfront and carries the receivable (lease obligation) on its balance sheet.
Klarna makes money from this partnership in two main ways. Apple will pay merchant fees for Klarna providing the financing, just as with any BNPL transaction. The company can also refurbish and resell any devices that get returned at the end of their lease. And these two income streams will be happening at an Apple-level scale.
The bottom line
Klarna isn't exactly a low-volume company as it is, but providing Apple's leasing infrastructure could be a big needle mover. It's tough to overstate the opportunity here. For context, Apple generated more than $200 billion in sales last year from the iPhone alone. Obviously, not all of this volume will move to Klarna's network, but a meaningful percentage of it could. And with two big ways the company could profit from this partnership -- including one that won't show up in the numbers until leases start to mature -- it could be a long-tailed revenue driver for the fintech.

While Cook was not the same type of innovator as his predecessor, Apple founder and legendary CEO Steve Jobs, he did a great job of nurturing Apple's core strengths. He will leave as Apple is the largest company in the world, with a market cap of $5 trillion. The question, though, is whether the stock is still a buy with him ready to depart.

Apple has a great business
When Apple reports its fiscal third-quarter results, investors should expect much of the same. iPhone sales should be solid, with the company reportedly seeing a 3% increase in shipments during the quarter and gaining its highest-everglobal marketshare at 20%, according to Centerpoint Research. This should then feed into its high-margin service revenue, which has consistently grown at a mid-teen rate.
Cook leaves Apple as having one of the best business models on the planet, making it easy for its next CEO to get off to a running start. The beauty of Apple is its closed ecosystem, which helps lock in customers. Once someone buys an iPhone, the cost of switching becomes increasingly difficult with each photo taken, subscription bought, and app downloaded. Users then become a part of Apple's huge service revenue machine. Apple is getting a high-margin revenue stream every time someone clicks on a search ad (as it gets a 36% revenue cut from Alphabet's Google), uses Apple Pay, buys cloud storage, or purchases a subscription or app.
Meanwhile, Apple just increased prices for several devices and certain service plans. This should be a nice revenue driver in the coming quarters after Cook leaves, giving incoming CEO John Ternus a solid revenue tailwind as he takes the reins. Ternus will also have time to execute a more comprehensive AI strategy for the company. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Cook's decision to sit back and not throw huge amounts of money into chasing AI models proves to be a smart one.
Is Apple stock a buy?
While I think Apple is one of the best companies in the world, I would not be buying the stock right now. The stock's valuation has expanded dramatically, and it now has a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of over 35 times. Its trailing P/E of 41 times is now more than double the multiple it traded at before the pandemic. Meanwhile, it could face some margin pressure from increasing memory prices.
Given that valuation still matters, I'd wait for a better entry point before considering buying the stock.

Tim Cook Will Host His Last Earnings Call as Apple CEO on July 30. Is the Stock a Buy Now?

The artificial intelligence (AI) revolution has taken a few turns in recent weeks. Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), the company that started it all, has been sliding this summer after peaking in May. For the first time in months, Nvida no longer wears the market cap crown.
Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) rise this week, coupled with Nvidia's 10-week slide, leaves the class act of Cupertino alone at the top of the list of most valuable companies by market cap. The passing of ships -- or chips, if you prefer -- is creating an opportunity. Ark Invest co-founder and CEO Cathie Wood has been buying shares of Nvidia for all five of Ark's largest exchange-traded funds. Let's take a closer look to see if you might want to follow her lead.

You can't spell GPU without P-U
Nvidia stock has tumbled 17% since its mid-May all-time high. There are smaller AI stocks sporting sharper corrections, but the slide here is notable. Nvidia's business didn't peak when its stock chart did. A week later, it reported an 85% year-over-year revenue surge for its fiscal first quarter that ended in late April.
Revenue has accelerated for three consecutive reports, and even the starting line was impressive. Nvidia's quarterly top-line increases have been 55%, 63%, and 73% before late May's 85% pop. The revenue growth is Nvidia's strongest move in a year and a half.
The marketplace may change in the coming years, but for now, Nvidia makes the most popular high-performance GPUs and AI accelerators that data centers need for hyperscalers and other enterprise customers to crank out AI solutions. Nvidia's data center revenue rose 92% in its fiscal first quarter, accounting for 92% of the company's total revenue.
And if you think Nvidia's top-line performance is great, you're going to love what's going on as that revenue works its way down the income statement. Its adjusted operating profit and earnings more than doubled for the quarter.
A compelling value stock argument for a monster growth stock
Nvidia didn't rattle investors by hosing down its guidance or becoming tighter with its money two months ago. Estimates have moved higher. Nvidia also announced a 25-fold increase to its dividend and authorized $80 billion in buybacks.
Wood thinks Nvidia is a bargain here, and the company seems to agree. Valuation arguments are easier to make when a stock ticks lower as its fundamentals inch higher. And Nvidia fits that dream scenario. Based on Tuesday's close, Nvidia is now trading at 22 times this fiscal year's projected earnings and just 15 times next year's target.
Outside the highly cyclical memory and storage stocks, you probably won't find too many companies growing at an 85% clip, fetching a year-ahead multiple in the mid-teens. Still, Nvidia isn't perfect. The company is facing its own supply chain constraints, there's growing uneasiness about the circular financing deals that Nvidia is championing to drum up business, and Chinese trade restrictions and tariff concerns remain in place. No one is denying the headwinds here, but the tailwinds haven't stopped swirling, either.
Nvidia stock was cheap before, and it's even cheaper now. I don't agree with all of Wood's buy-and-sell decisions, but this one seems pretty easy to like.

Cathie Wood Just Bought Nvidia Stock, Is It Finally Time to Buy?

The Dow and the S&P 500 ended higher on Tuesday, driven by robust earnings and a decline in energy prices, as investors continued to dump chip stocks and take refuge in other defensive assets. The Nasdaq ended in negative territory.
How Did the Benchmarks Perform?
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) jumped 1%, or 537.24 points, to close at 52,747.32 points.
The S&P 500 rose 0.2%, to finish at 7,428.78 points. Health care, communication services, and consumer staples stocks were the biggest gainers, while energy and tech stocks were the worst performers.
The Information Technology Select Sector SPDR (XLK) lost 1.8%, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) dropped 1.4%. The Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) gained 2.4%. The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) added 2%, while the Communication Services Select Sector SPDR (XLC) rose 1.9%. Seven of the 11 sectors of the benchmark index ended in positive territory.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq declined 0.2%, to end at 24,876.91 points.
The fear gauge, the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), was down 2.46% to 18.21. Advancers outnumbered decliners on the S&P 500 by a 2.5-to-1 ratio. A total of 17.2 billion shares were traded on Tuesday, lower than the last 20-session average of 17.4 billion.
On the S&P 500, there were 63 new 52-week highs and one new low.
Robust Earnings Boost Markets, Chip Selloff Continues
The S&P 500 rallied on Tuesday, boosted by gains in The Boeing Company (BA) and The Coca-Cola Company (KO) after the companies reported their quarterly results. Shares of Boeing jumped 4.8% despite the company reporting a wider-than-expected loss in the second quarter of 2026.
Boeing reported a quarterly loss of $0.76 per share, wider than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of $0.34. However, it posted revenues of $24.56 billion, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 2.11%.
The Coca-Cola Company reported second-quarter 2026 earnings of $0.97 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.92 per share. The company’s shares ended up 5%.
Dow, which posted its third straight day of gains, got a boost from The Sherwin-Williams Company (SHW). The company’s shares jumped 8.3% after it reported second-quarter 2026 earnings of $3.7 per share, outpacing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $3.56 per share. The earnings season is fast gathering pace, and robust quarterly results from some of the industry bellwethers somewhat offset the bleeding chip stocks. Investors are concerned that companies like Microsoft Corporation (MSFT), Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) and Alphabet, Inc. (GOOGL) are investing too much in AI data centers, which could be a risky affair.
Chip stocks continued to suffer on Tuesday, with the PHLX Semiconductor (SOX) declining 4.5%. Investors are now waiting to see the quarterly guidance from tech giants Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, Inc. (AAPL) and Meta Platforms Inc. (META), which will report their quarterly results this week.
Declining oil prices also helped markets, as Iran started talks with Oman and Saudi Arabia regarding the Strait of Hormuz. West Texas Intermediate crude futures dropped nearly 4% to end at $79.26 a barrel. International Brent crude settled at $84.09, declining 4.8%.
Economic Data
The Conference Board reported on Tuesday that consumer confidence fell to 90.8 in July from an upwardly revised 92.2 in the prior month. The reading came sharply lower than the consensus estimate of a rise to 92.3.

Because they have become the predominant winners in the market during the past decade or so, all of the largest companies in the world are tech stocks. The first large company that isn't, drugmaker Ely Lilly, is the ninth most-valuable company in the world.
The Magnificent Seven, in order of value as of this writing, include Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta Platforms, and Tesla. Today, Broadcom and Space Exploration Technologies are both larger than Tesla by market cap.

These companies, which are all artificial intelligence (AI) stocks, have soared to their current rankings due to rapid growth, much of which is recently associated with the explosion of AI. However, only two of them were beating the S&P 500 as of this writing: Apple and Nvidia.
Is this an ominous warning about what's happening in the markets?
Is the S&P 500 hitting new highs?
This is the fourth straight year that the S&P 500 is showing a gain. It's not uncommon for the market to remain in bull territory for four years in a row, and during the past 25 years -- since it recovered from the dot-com bubble -- it has lost value only four times annually.
As of this writing, the S&P 500 is up about 8% year to date. However, it's off its record high, and it has been little changed during the past two months.
Investors have been worried about high oil prices due to the Iran war, AI spending, and a richly valued stock market. Oil prices have been up and down since the war started in February, and that volatility has the market concerned about longer-term effects.
Higher oil prices can trickle down to higher prices in nearly every industry, since many companies rely on oil for production, and they have to pass along higher costs to consumers.
As for AI spending, Amazon stock has borne the brunt of the market's worries about it for the past few months. However, Alphabet's recent announcement about its own capital expenditure forecast, which topped Amazon's outlook at $205 billion, sent its stock down as well. In fact, Alphabet stock had been beating the market as well until the announcement. But all of the large companies have been spending quite freely, and that's worrying investors.
Lastly, investors also recognize that the market is heading toward its highest-ever valuation. The price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) is the standard valuation metric for most companies, but it has its drawbacks. It's unusable for companies that aren't profitable, and it doesn't account for anomalies, such as tax-advantaged or disadvantaged profits, one-time deviations, and inflation that distorts historical averages.
The cyclically adjusted P/E ratio, or CAPE ratio, was developed to account for most of these irregularities, and today, it stands at 41. Not only is that its second-highest figure ever since the metric was created, but it's also more than double the historical average of 17.8.
Why Nvidia and Apple are beating the market
Nvidia and Apple have both been up and down this year, but the market may see certain advantages in these stocks, the two most valuable companies in the world, as valuations rise and volatility increases. Many of the hottest AI stocks have begun to falter as fantastic gains outpace fundamental performance.
For example, chipmaker Sandisk continues to demonstrate phenomenal performance, but its P/E ratio has expanded as well, implying that stock growth is exceeding earnings growth. Many of the AI-adjacent stocks are in the same boat, and many have headed down recently.
Apple, on the other hand, laid low as AI exploded, and its cautious approach to AI development has proved to be savvy. Its iPhone remains the backbone of the company as it continues to be a hot seller, again proving that investing in its hardware, the known entity, rather than costly AI, was the right move.
Nvidia, at the same time, remains at the epicenter of the AI revolution for a number of reasons. It controls as much as 90% of the AI chip market, and it's deeply embedded in hyperscaler AI construction, so it is picking up a nice chunk of the spending.
In times like these, investors tend to head toward the safe stocks that can withstand market volatility, and Apple and Nvidia might fit the bill for many.

Only 2 "Magnificent Seven" Stocks Are Beating the Market This Year. What's Going On?

A high P/E ratio and $300 billion market cap make it more difficult for Palantir to produce substantial long-term returns.
Still, if you want a growth stock that can beat the S&P 500 in the long run, Palantir may be worth considering.
Palantir (NASDAQ: PLTR) has minted many millionaires during the past three years. The artificial intelligence (AI) software company hovered near penny-stock territory in 2023 and is currently valued at about $125 per share. It used to trade for more than $200 per share at its all-time high, showing how much the stock has gained in recent years.
However, some investors may be concerned that most of the gains are in the past. The millionaire-maker stocks of yesterday aren't always the millionaire-makers of today. Palantir has some compelling fundamentals that suggest it can flip the script, but there are some meaningful hurdles new investors face.

Fundamental growth has been impressive
Palantir operates a great business model that produces rising revenue and profit. Having the key metrics go up each quarter is the hallmark of stocks that steadily gain value over the long run. The first quarter featured 85% year-over-year revenue growth, with U.S. revenue more than doubling year over year.
That's an important detail because most of Palantir's revenue comes from the U.S. government and businesses. The fact that U.S. revenue growth is outpacing overall revenue growth means that a rising U.S. segment will lift up the entire business in a meaningful way.
Palantir locks in long-term contracts, which result in high annual recurring revenue. Its AI platform is critical for governments and enterprises that use artificial intelligence to analyze and interpret data. It also lets companies create AI agents to perform various tasks autonomously.
More than 200 of its Q1 deals exceeded $1 million in value, with 47 of those deals being worth more than $10 million. Investors are bullish about Q2 earnings, which will come out in August, with company forecasts suggesting a sequential revenue jump.
The valuation leaves little room for error
Even the bears will acknowledge that Palantir has a great business model, but at what price? This is the question that deflates some bullish narratives as the focus shifts from a rising business to a 138 price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio.
Net income more than quadrupled year over year in the first quarter, so it's possible that continued profit margin expansion could make the valuation more reasonable. Palantir wrapped up the quarter with a net profit margin just above 50%, and if the company can continue to maintain high top-line growth, its profit has more room to expand.
Full-year projections suggest that Palantir will maintain high revenue growth. A subscription model and strong customer relations with the largest governments and enterprises suggest that revenue growth can remain elevated beyond 2026. Still, the P/E ratio leaves little room for error.
Value investors may be concerned, but the recent dip has made the stock more attractive for growth investors who can wait a few years before selling their shares. It was only a few months ago when Palantir had a 600 P/E ratio, so a 138 P/E ratio looks more reasonable in comparison.
It's not turning $20,000 into $1 million
If you're looking for a stock that can make you a millionaire, two things matter beyond a stock's fundamentals: the stock's market cap and how much you can invest.
Some stocks can turn $20,000 into $1 million within a few years, but they are extremely rare. Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) achieved the feat last year before entering a correction, and while some stocks can do that in a few years, it is extremely rare. However, in most of those cases, it's a stock with a relatively small market cap that gets the job done.
If you can put only $20,000 into Palantir, it's not going to become a $1 million position. That would require a 50-fold return, and that performance would turn a $315 billion market cap into a $15.75 trillion market cap. Palantir isn't going to become more valuable than Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), and Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) combined, so investors shouldn't count on that kind of return.
Palantir, however, does have a realistic shot at a $1 trillion valuation, which would imply more than a threefold return. That may not be enough for most people to turn Palantir into a millionaire-maker position, but portfolio diversification and time can eventually move you toward the seven-figure milestone.

Apple expects third-quarter fiscal 2026 net sales to grow between 14% and 17% on a year-over-year basis. Gross margin is expected to be 47.5-48.5% in the third quarter of fiscal 2026. Operating expenses are expected to be between $18.8 billion and $19.1 billion.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal third-quarter net sales is pegged at $108.75 billion, indicating year-over-year growth of 15.64%.
The consensus mark for earnings is pegged at $1.88 per share, unchanged over the past 30 days. The estimate indicates a 19.75% increase from the year-ago quarter’s reported figure.
AAPL’s earnings beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate in all the trailing four quarters, the earnings surprise being 7.34%, on average.

Factors to Drive Apple’s Fiscal Q3 Results
Apple’s third-quarter fiscal 2026 results are expected to reflect benefits from continued strong demand for the iPhone 17 family, supported by healthy upgrade activity, market share gains and expanding first-time user adoption. The company reported record iPhone revenues in both the first and second quarters of fiscal 2026, with particularly strong momentum in the United States, Greater China, India, Japan and other emerging markets. The launch of the iPhone 17e further broadened Apple’s addressable market, while Apple Intelligence capabilities and the A19/A19 Pro chips enhanced the appeal of the premium lineup. The installed base also reached an all-time high, providing a solid foundation for continued hardware sales in the to-be-reported quarter.
Apple’s Services segment is expected to have been another key contributor in the to-be-reported quarter. Services reached a record $31 billion in the second quarter of fiscal 2026, driven by double-digit growth across most categories and markets. Growth in paid subscriptions, transacting accounts, App Store activity, Apple TV+, Apple Pay, cloud services and enterprise offerings, such as Apple Business, is likely to have continued to support recurring revenue. With an installed base exceeding 2.5 billion active devices, Apple remains well positioned to monetize its ecosystem through higher customer engagement and subscription adoption.
Apple is expected to have benefited from growing adoption of Apple Intelligence across its ecosystem. The company continued expanding AI capabilities across iPhone, Mac, iPad and AirPods while emphasizing privacy-focused on-device AI powered by Apple Silicon. Strong demand for recently introduced products, including MacBook Neo, M5-powered Macs, M4-powered iPad Air and new AirPods, is likely to have supported hardware revenues. Apple’s positioning of Mac as a preferred platform for AI development and enterprise deployment is also expected to have strengthened demand from commercial customers.
However, supply chain constraints are expected to have hurt Apple’s fiscal third- quarter results. Although Apple expected supply conditions to improve after the fiscal second quarter, the company acknowledged that iPhone and Mac demand continued to outpace available supply. Apple significantly increased research and development spending to accelerate investments in AI, custom silicon and future products. While these investments support long-term innovation, elevated operating expenses is are expected to have kept operating margin under pressure in the third quarter of fiscal 2026.
AAPL Shares Outperform Sector, Valuation Stretched
Apple shares have appreciated 23.9% year to date (YTD), outperforming the Zacks Computer & Technology sector’s return of 9.9%. While Apple shares have outperformed HP and Alphabet over the time frame, the shares have lagged Dell Technologies. YTD, shares of HP, Alphabet and Dell have returned 19.2%, 4.3% and 238.4%, respectively.
The AAPL stock is not so cheap, as suggested by the Value Score of F. In terms of the forward 12-month price/earnings, AAPL is trading at 35.73X, higher than the Zacks Computer & Technology sector’s 20.90X, Dell’s 20.59X, HP’s 9.03X and Alphabet’s 20.48X.
AI Focus to Aid AAPL’s Prospects
Apple’s long-term outlook is supported by the expansion of Apple Intelligence across its hardware ecosystem. The combination of custom Apple Silicon, on-device AI processing, privacy-focused architecture and continued investment in foundation models should enhance user engagement, encourage device upgrades and create new monetization opportunities. The company expects to introduce a more personalized Siri and additional AI capabilities, strengthening its competitive position.
Apple’s installed base of more than 2.5 billion active devices provides a significant long-term advantage. As the user base expands, Services — including subscriptions, payments, cloud, advertising and digital content — should continue generating stable, high-margin recurring revenues. The company continues to gain traction among enterprise customers deploying Macs, iPads and iPhones for AI workloads, productivity and security. Simultaneously, investments in India and other emerging markets through retail expansion, manufacturing initiatives and localized products provide meaningful long-term growth opportunities.
Nevertheless, Apple faces growing competition from Chinese smartphone vendors and AI-focused device manufacturers investing aggressively in generative AI, cloud AI and enterprise software. Increasing antitrust scrutiny, App Store regulations, digital market legislation and privacy-related requirements is are expected to limit Apple’s ability to monetize its ecosystem and increase compliance costs over time.
Conclusion
Apple enters its third-quarter fiscal 2026 earnings announcement with strong momentum, supported by healthy iPhone demand, robust Services growth and expanding Apple Intelligence adoption across its ecosystem. The company’s growing installed base and continued investments in AI, custom silicon and emerging markets provide a solid foundation for long-term growth.
However, elevated AI-related investments, supply constraints, regulatory pressures and an expensive valuation temper the upside. While Apple’s fundamentals remain strong, much of the near-term optimism appears reflected in the stock, making investors closely watch the company's execution and guidance for the remainder of fiscal 2026.

Growth stock dominance is being tested
The Nasdaq lost around a third of its value in 2022 because of inflationary pressures and valuation concerns amid a post-pandemic recovery. But on Nov. 30, 2022, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT. The Nasdaq is far more heavily weighted in tech stocks and tech-focused companies than the S&P 500 and the Dow, so it benefited more from AI-driven stock gains. Tech and tech-focused companies also have a heavier weighting in the S&P 500 than the Dow, although the Dow has become more representative of the modern market with the addition of several tech-focused companies -- most recently Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) in June.
Still, financials are by far the heaviest-weighted Dow sector. And the Dow has higher weightings in value-focused and cyclical sectors like industrials, healthcare, and consumer staples than the S&P 500. So when market leadership shifts from growth stocks to value stocks, like in 2022, the Dow tends to outperform the S&P 500 and Nasdaq.
Alphabet and Apple reflect current market sentiment
The Dow and S&P 500 overtaking the Nasdaq's year-to-date return shows a shift in market leadership toward value-focused sectors. Earnings drive stock prices in the long term. But in the short term, narratives, emotion, and sentiment can play an even bigger role. Investors who maintain a long-term mindset by filtering out market noise and focusing on fundamentals are best positioned to build wealth.
Alphabet's earnings report from last week encapsulated current market sentiment. The results were nothing short of spectacular -- record revenue, a big jump in earnings, and 34% operating margins. Despite all the positives, Alphabet sold off because of spending concerns.
As you can see in the chart, Alphabet's capital expenditures (capex) surged to $45.9 billion -- driven by AI. And that increased capex caused Alphabet to report its first negative free cash flow (FCF) quarter in over a decade.
So, in just a few years, Alphabet transformed from a high-margin money-printing machine to a company that is now seeing more cash leave the business than enter it. And Alphabet shows no signs of slowing its spending, raising its full-year capex guidance in line with Amazon's and calling for even higher spending in 2027.
The sell-off in hyperscalers like Alphabet, Amazon, and Microsoft -- and the broader pullback in semiconductor stocks -- shows that some investors are growing skeptical of the return on investment of AI spending. Whereas just a couple of years ago, ramp-ups in AI spending were celebrated by Wall Street -- demonstrating two contrasting reactions to the same news. Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) shows the other side of the coin.
The narrative has totally flipped on Apple. Just last summer, Apple was in a steep sell-off as investors questioned its slowing growth and lack of AI investments. Now, investors are cheering Apple's regimented approach to AI spending. Apple is in cat bird's seat because it owns the devices that AI tools run on. It can simply partner with the best AI models rather than building its own. Apple is hovering around an all-time high because it is generating consistently decent growth that doesn't depend on AI spending and still stands to benefit from AI long-term.
Buying quality companies on sale
Making informed investment decisions is easier when you know what's driving the major indexes. But the indexes only tell part of the story. After all, Apple's gains have benefited the Nasdaq more than the S&P 500 or the Dow, and yet the Nasdaq is still underperforming. So it's important to look beyond the indexes for the complete picture.
Right now, the market is skeptical that AI spending will pay off -- which is why Apple is trading at 38.5 times forward earnings, compared to just 16.5 for Alphabet. And to be fair, at least some of that skepticism is understandable considering it's pretty shocking to see Alphabet's FCF turn negative.
Investors who believe the spending will ultimately pay off are getting an excellent opportunity to scoop up shares of quality companies like Alphabet at a discount. However, it's a mistake to assume that just because an AI stock has sold off, it's a bargain, as many red-hot AI stocks are still priced for perfection.
