Nike (NYSE: NKE) CEO Elliott Hill took the reins of the vaunted sportswear giant a year-and-a-half ago with a tall task ahead of him.
Hill was asked to turn around the struggling Swoosh, which was facing the biggest drawdown in its history as a publicly traded company. Revenue growth had fallen as low as negative double digits, as Nike was losing share to upstart challengers like Deckers' Hoka and On Holding.

Since taking over Nike, Hill has made a lot of changes. He's refreshed the management team, streamlined the organizational structure, and brought the focus of the company back to sport. He's also stepped up investments in innovation, pulled back on legacy styles, and reestablished relationships with key wholesale partners after the company overinvested in the direct-to-consumer channel.
Some of those efforts have paid off. Nike's revenue has stabilized with sales up 1% to $12.4 billion in the fiscal second quarter, its most recent one, and it's returned to growth in running, one of its biggest categories.
However, Nike has slumped in recent months and is back to hovering around an 8-year low as margins have continued to compress as the company invests in the turnaround. With the share price now below $55, Wall Street has taken notice.
Wall Street smells opportunity
Barclays upgraded the stock on Wednesday, lifting its rating from neutral to a buy-equivalent and raising its price target from $64 to $73.
Barclays noted Nike's improving inventory levels, which should help lift margins, and that the recovery in running could pave the way for the rest of the business.
Wells Fargo also recently reiterated its buy-equivalent rating on the stock, though it removed Nike from its list of top picks. Finally, Jefferies said that commentary from Dick's Sporting Goods in its fourth-quarter report gives it confidence in Nike's wholesale recovery.
Is Nike a buy?
Nike stock is now down 70% from its all-time high, which came at the end of the pandemic-era stock market boom. However, the stock isn't exactly cheap. In fact, Nike trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 32 as its earnings per share has tumbled along with the stock.
The buy case for the stock, therefore, requires a real turnaround in the underlying business, though the seeds for that are there. Analysts expect profits to fall sharply when Nike reports third-quarter earnings later this month, but they see the company returning to bottom-line growth after that.
Despite its woes, Nike still has a lot of competitive advantages, including its well-known brand and roster of star athletes. Hill looks like he's making the right moves, and Nike should eventually find its way back to growth.
Investors will have to be patient, but Nike looks like a buy at the current price. The components of a turnaround are there. Still, it's up to Hill to put them together.

Citigroup Inc. C reiterated its strategic priorities and financial targets, highlighting strong growth opportunities despite persistent geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainties. CEO Jane Fraser discussed these factors, along with many others, at the 2026 RBC Capital Markets Global Financial Institutions Conference held on Tuesday.
Fraser stated that strong economic trends support the bank’s outlook. U.S. corporate activity remains strong due to investment in artificial intelligence (AI), automation, tech upgrades, and a solid merger and acquisition (M&A) trend. Rise in consumer spending and a favorable corporate backdrop, supported by deregulation and tax benefits, is further encouraging business expansion.
Fraser also noted that the integration of the U.S. Retail Bank with its Wealth Management division is expected to enhance the client experience, increase wallet share and support revenue growth through a more seamless referral network and expanded investment offerings, including alternatives and core wealth products. These developments will likely support C’s performance in the upcoming period.
Citigroup expects first-quarter 2026 investment banking (IB) fees and markets revenues (equities and fixed income) to grow year over year in the mid-teens, supported by strong M&A and equity capital markets activity. The company also reaffirmed its 2026 operating efficiency target of 60%, though the first quarter will likely reflect some front-loaded severance costs related to its ongoing restructuring initiatives.
Citigroup’s business turnaround progress is getting reflected in its stock performance. Over the past year, the stock has appreciated 60.3%, outperforming the industry’s 30.9% growth. It has also pulled ahead of key peers, with Bank of America BAC rising 21.6% and Wells Fargo WFC gaining 13.5%.

From Complexity to Focus: CEO Jane Fraser continues to advance the company’s multi-year strategy to streamline operations and focus on its core businesses. Since announcing plans in April 2021 to exit consumer banking in 14 markets across Asia and EMEA.
In February 2026, Citigroup completed the sale of its Russia-based banking subsidiary, AO Citibank, to Renaissance Capital. The sale of AO Citibank strengthens Citigroup’s capital position and streamlines its balance sheet. The transaction is expected to provide an estimated benefit of $4 billion to the company’s Common Equity Tier 1 capital in the first quarter of 2026. In February 2026, C announced agreements with several investors for commitments to purchase an aggregate 24% equity stake in Grupo Financiero Banamex, S.A. de C.V (Banamex), following the divestiture of a 25% stake in Banamex to a Mexican business leader in December 2025. The company is now preparing for a planned initial public offering (IPO) of its Mexican consumer, and small and middle-market banking units.
In May 2025, C announced an agreement to sell its consumer banking business in Poland, while in June 2024, it sold its China-based consumer wealth portfolio. As part of its strategy, Citigroup continues to make progress with the wind-down of its Korea consumer banking operations. At the 2026 RBC Conference, C noted that the transformation program progress is now at more than 80% target state.
These initiatives will free up capital and help the company pursue investments in wealth management and IB operations, which will stoke fee income growth. Supported by these initiatives, Citigroup expects revenues to see a 4-5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) through 2026.
Push for Efficiency: The company continues to focus on streamlining processes and platforms, and driving automation to reduce manual touchpoints. Citigroup is increasingly deploying AI tools to support these efforts. At the 2026 RBC Conference, management stated that AI is a central theme across businesses, driving productivity, revenue opportunities and improved client servicing.
In support of this strategy, the company signed a multi-year agreement this week with LSEG to modernize its enterprise-wide data infrastructure. The initiative spans markets, investment banking, wealth management, trading and risk functions, aiming to improve data quality, standardization and accessibility across the organization. Management expects these upgrades to enable more data-driven decisions while delivering operational efficiencies at scale.
The company also announced an organizational realignment to simplify its governance structure by eliminating various management layers. Pursuant to this, the company changed its operating model and the leadership structure. This resulted in a streamlined and straightforward management structure aligned with and supporting the bank's strategy of increased spans of control and significantly reduced bureaucracy and unnecessary complexity.
In January 2024, the bank announced plans to cut 20,000 jobs, approximately 8% of its global staff, by 2026. The bank has already made significant progress by reducing its headcount by more than 10,000 employees. Management noted that there is a reduction of stranded costs due to exits in Russia, China and other markets.
Given such efforts, the company expects to achieve $2-2.5 billion in annualized run rate savings by 2026. Management continues to target a return on tangible common equity (ROTCE) of 10-11% in 2026.

Interest Rate Cuts: Following the initial easing in 2024 and three subsequent rate cuts in 2025, interest rates stand at 3.50-3.75% currently.With declining rates, lending activity is set to improve. Also, easing regulatory capital requirements will help channel excess capital into loan growth, particularly within the resilient commercial and consumer segments. Hence, Citigroup is likely to witness a decent demand for loans, which will support net interest income (NII) expansion.
NII witnessed a three-year compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.2% (ended 2025). Management expects NII, excluding markets, to increase 5-6% year over year in 2026, supported by lower funding costs, increased loan volumes and repricing of maturing assets into higher yields.

Solid Liquidity Aids Capital Distribution: C enjoys a strong liquidity position. As of Dec. 31, 2025, Citigroup’s cash and due from banks and total investments aggregated to $476.7 billion, while its total debt (short-term and long-term borrowing) was $335.8 billion.
Post-clearing the 2025 Fed stress test, the company hiked its dividend 7.1% to 60 cents per share. In the past five years, it has raised its dividends three times. The company has a payout ratio of 30%. It has a dividend yield of 2.3%. Wells Fargo has raised its dividend six times in the past five years, while Bank of America has increased its dividend five times in the past five years.
In January 2025, Citigroup's board of directors approved a $20-billion common stock repurchase program with no expiration date. As of Dec. 31, 2025, $6.8 billion worth of authorization remained available. Supported by a strong capital and liquidity position, its capital distribution activities seem sustainable.
Asset Quality: Citigroup’s asset quality has been deteriorating. While the company recorded negative provisions in 2021, a substantial jump in provisions was recorded in the years after that because of the worsening macroeconomic outlook. The metric saw a CAGR of 24.5% from 2022 to 2025. C’s asset quality is less likely to improve much in the near term as the impacts of trade policy and the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict are likely to put pressure on prices, thus keeping inflation high in the near term.
Estimates Signal Accelerating Growth Momentum for C
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Citigroup’s 2026 and 2027 earnings implies year-over-year rallies of 27.9% and 18.4%, respectively. The estimate for 2026 has been unchanged over the past month, while the estimate for 2027 has been revised upward during the same period.

C's Turnaround Strengthens Growth Outlook: Should You Buy the Stock?

For years, Wells Fargo & Company WFC operated under a regulatory constraint, a $1.95-trillion asset cap imposed by the Federal Reserve in 2018 following its fake account scandal. The restriction limited the bank’s ability to expand its balance sheet, constraining loan growth, deposit accumulation and overall business expansion.
Over the years, Wells Fargo invested heavily in strengthening internal controls, enhancing board oversight and addressing compliance deficiencies across its operations. The bank gradually resolved multiple regulatory orders, demonstrating steady progress in governance and risk oversight.
In June 2025, the Fed lifted the asset cap after confirming that Wells Fargo had met the conditions required under the 2018 enforcement action. The termination of the 2018 order last week marks the closure of the final remaining consent order linked to the fake-account scandal, ending nearly a decade of regulatory oversight.
The key question now is whether this regulatory relief can translate into sustainable long-term growth.
WFC: A Strategic Reset Post Regulatory Relief
The removal of the asset cap significantly expands Wells Fargo’s strategic flexibility. The bank can now grow its loan book, deposits and securities portfolio without regulatory constraints. This will lead to an increase in NII. By 2025-end, WFC’s loans increased nearly 7%, while deposits rose 6.4% since June 2025.
Equally important, Wells Fargo can now accelerate expansion in fee-generating businesses, including payment services, asset management and mortgage origination. WFC increased trading-related assets by 50% in 2025 as it is able to now utilize its balance sheet to accelerate growth in trading businesses. Additionally, the bank is strengthening its credit card portfolio, reflecting improved customer penetration and diversified fee income streams. These efforts will enhance the company’s profitability.
Operational efficiency initiatives also reinforce its growth prospects. Since 2020, Wells Fargo has streamlined its organizational structure, reduced headcount and optimized its branch network. Non-interest expenses have declined slightly over the past five years, reflecting disciplined cost management.
Reflecting this renewed flexibility and operational efficiency, management expects to achieve the medium-term return on tangible common equity (ROTCE) target of 17-18%. Verizon (NYSE: VZ) stock continued to rally in February following the company's strong fourth-quarter results at the end of January. The telecommunications' share price surged 20.4% higher in the month, and the performance looks even stronger amid a 0.9% decline for the S&P 500 and a 3.4% decline for the Nasdaq Composite in the month.
Blowout quarters are a rare thing in Verizon's corner of the telecommunications industry, but the company delivered at the end of January -- and it's translated into a sustained rally for the stock. The stock is now up roughly 25.5% across 2026's trading.

Analysts became much more bullish on Verizon last month
Following its strong fourth-quarter report, Verizon received a large number of stock rating raises and price-target increases in February. Firms including JPMorgan Chase, RBC Capital, Scotiabank, UBS, Wells Fargo, TD Cowen, and Morgan Stanley all increased their price target forecasts for the telecommunications company's share price near the beginning of February.
The last major piece of bullish analyst coverage for the stock last month arrived on Feb. 19, with Daiwa raising its rating on the company from outperform to buy. The investment firm also increased its one-year price target on the stock from $48 per share to $58 per share.
Daiwa's analysts singled out Verizon's addition of 616,000 net postpaid subscribers in the quarter as a fantastic performance achievement. The team also said that it thinks that strong momentum for customer additions is sustainable this year and that the company's valuation offered the best risk-reward profile in the telecom sector. Despite big gains in last month's trading and continued momentum in March, Daiwa's price target still implies additional upside of roughly 13.5%.
Verizon has kept moving higher in March
The broader market has been roiled by volatility early in March's trading, but Verizon stock has continued to climb in the month. The company's share price is up 1.9% across the stretch so far.
The war with Iran has broadly sent stocks lower, and the latest jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics has added to the pressure. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had forecasted that the U.S. economy would shed 50,000 nonfarm jobs in February, but the number actually came in at 92,000.
Geopolitical and macroeconomic volatility have added to concerns that inflation could pick back up and cause the Federal Reserve to hold off on cutting interest rates. Investors have broadly been reducing exposure to stocks in response, and growth-dependent companies have been particularly hard hit. On the other hand, some dividend-paying value stocks have seen valuation gains recently.
Even after its big rally, Verizon trades at just 10.4 times this year's expected earnings and pays a dividend yielding roughly 5.4%. Shares are substantially more expensive than they were at the beginning of the year, but the stock doesn't appear to be prohibitively valued after the gains.

Why Verizon Stock Skyrocketed 20.4% Last Month and Is Rising in March

The Federal Reserve has officially terminated its 2018 enforcement action against Wells Fargo & Company WFC, marking the closure of one of the most significant regulatory penalties imposed on the bank in the aftermath of its fake-account scandal.
The central bank confirmed that WFC has fulfilled all requirements under the order, including strengthening its governance and firmwide risk management. This milestone comes after years of regulatory oversight addressing deficiencies from the 2016 sales-practice scandal.
History of WFC’s 2018 Consent Order by the Fed
The regulatory scrutiny on Wells Fargo began in 2016, when investigations revealed that employees had opened millions of unauthorized deposit and credit card accounts in customers’ names without consent. The misconduct stemmed from a high-pressure sales culture that prioritized cross-selling targets over proper risk management.
In response, multiple U.S. regulators launched investigations into the bank’s governance and risk controls. By 2018, the Fed imposed a formal enforcement action, requiring Wells Fargo to overhaul its governance structure and establish a comprehensive risk management framework across all major business operations. The Fed also mandated that the bank demonstrate the effectiveness of these improvements through two independent third-party reviews.
Alongside these requirements, the 2018 consent order introduced a strict asset growth cap, restricting Wells Fargo from growing any larger than its total assets as of the end of 2017, which amounted to $1.95 trillion. The cap effectively constrained the bank’s ability to expand deposits, lending and securities holdings until regulators were satisfied that governance and risk-management improvements were fully implemented.
Over the following years, Wells Fargo invested heavily in strengthening internal controls, enhancing board oversight and addressing compliance deficiencies across its operations. The bank gradually resolved multiple regulatory orders, demonstrating steady progress in governance and risk oversight.
By June 2025, the Fed lifted the asset cap after confirming that Wells Fargo had met the conditions required under the 2018 enforcement action. The termination of the 2018 order in March 2026 now marks the closure of the final remaining consent order linked to the fake-account scandal, ending nearly a decade of regulatory oversight.
How WFC Benefits From the End of the Fed Enforcement Action?
The termination of the Fed's enforcement action represents a significant milestone in Wells Fargo’s long-running regulatory remediation process. For years, the consent order symbolized the bank’s governance shortcomings and imposed strict oversight on its operations.
With the enforcement action now closed, Wells Fargo enters a new phase where it can focus more fully on strategic expansion rather than regulatory remediation. The earlier removal of the asset cap in 2025 had already unlocked the bank’s ability to expand its balance sheet by growing deposits, increasing lending activities and broadening its securities portfolio.
This operational flexibility allows WFC to scale fee-generating businesses such as payment services, asset management and mortgage origination. The removal of regulatory restrictions also enables the bank to allocate capital more efficiently and pursue growth opportunities across its core franchises.
With removal of regulatory constraints, the bank now appears better positioned to pursue sustainable growth and strengthen its competitive position in the industry. Reflecting management’s confidence in its earnings potential, WFC has expects to achieve return on tangible common equity (ROTCE) target of 17–18% over medium-term.

In September 2025, UBS Group AG UBS agreed to pay €835 million ($986.8 million) to resolve a long-running French tax case concerning its cross-border business activities between 2004 and 2012.
Apart from the French tax case, UBS has also settled other regulatory matters in recent years. In August 2025, it agreed to pay $300 million to the U.S. Department of Justice to settle a legacy matter tied to Credit Suisse’s mortgage-backed securities business.
