It also offers consultative services consisting of assistance with irrigation project take-offs, commercial project planning, generation of sales leads, business operations, and product support services, as well as a series of technical and business management seminars; and distributes branded products of third parties. The company offers its products under the LESCO, SiteOne Green Tech, and Pro-Trade brand names. It markets its products primarily to residential and commercial landscape professionals who specializes in the design, installation, and maintenance of lawns, gardens, golf courses, and other outdoor spaces through branch network and direct distribution. Selling, general and administrative expenses rose 3.7% year over year to $1.04 billion. Grainger’s operating income in the quarter was up 19% year over year to $663 million. The operating margin came in at 15% compared with 13.9% in the prior-year quarter.
Grainger’s Q4 Cash Flow & Balance Sheet Updates
The company had cash and cash equivalents of $1.04 billion at the end of 2024, up from $0.67 billion at 2023-end. Cash flow from operating activities was $2.11 billion in 2024 compared with $2.03 billion last year.
The long-term debt was $2.28 billion as of Dec. 31, 2024, compared with $2.27 million as of Dec. 31, 2023. Grainger returned $1.6 billion to shareholders via dividends and share buybacks through 2024. The capital expenditure for the year was $541 million, higher than $445 million in 2023.

Adjusted EPS rose 23.6% year over year to $38.96 in 2024, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $38.95. Including one-time items, earnings were $38.71 compared with $36.23 in 2023. The figure came in line with the company’s expected EPS of $38.65-$39.35.

Extended Downturn in Manufacturing Activity is Concerning: The manufacturing sector contributes around 70% to the industry's revenues. Customer activity trends are historically correlated to changes in the Industrial Production Index. Some industry players have reported gradually easing supply-chain issues, with improvements in lead times. Once the situation normalizes, strong demand in the diverse end markets will drive the industry’s growth.
Pricing Actions to Combat High Costs: The industry has been experiencing significant inflation levels, including higher prices for labor, freight and fuel. The companies are witnessing labor shortages for some positions and incurring steep labor costs to meet demand. Extended Downturn in Manufacturing Activity is Concerning: The manufacturing sector contributes around 70% to the industry's revenues. Customer activity trends are historically correlated to changes in the Industrial Production Index. The New Orders index has also contracted for the sixth consecutive month in September. The index has not delivered consistent growth since the end of its 24-month expansion streak in May 2022. Some industry players have reported gradually easing supply-chain issues, with improvements in lead times. Once the situation normalizes, strong demand in the diverse end markets will drive the industry’s growth.
Pricing Actions to Combat High Costs: The industry has been experiencing significant inflation levels, including higher prices for labor, freight and fuel. The companies are witnessing labor shortages for some positions and incurring steep labor costs to meet demand. Industry players are focusing on pricing actions, cost-cutting measures, efforts to improve productivity and efficiency, and the diversification of the supplier base to mitigate some of these headwinds.
