The Legacy EV Business: Volume vs. Margins
Although most investors own Tesla shares because they are betting on future products such as the Optimus humanoid robot and robotaxi, it’s electric vehicle business still comprises the lion’s share (~85%) of its total revenues. Last month, Tesla delivered a spectacular deliver beat when it reported ~480k vehicles for Q2. The 480K delivery number trounced Wall Street estimates of 406k and represented a 25% year-over-year increase.
However, it’s important that investors do not view the delivery number in a vacuum. Amid a sunsetting of the federal EV tax credits and a slowing EV market Tesla has offered generous promotional financing and has slashed prices in key markets such as China and Europe. The question for investors is “Will increased EV sales volumes supersede incentives or will deep discounts erode profit margins?”

Tesla’s Energy business continues to be a consistent bright spot for the company. Deployments soared 40% year-over-year. Meanwhile, Tesla is expanding its energy business. SunRun (RUN) and TSLA announced a 16GW distributed energy pact targeting utilities and data center operators. Additionally, Tesla brough the largest lithium refinery in the U.S. online earlier this year. While growth will likely continue, investors will be watching to see if CAPEX stabilizes in this segment.
Future Product Timelines
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has a reputation for setting extremely aggressive (and sometimes unrealistic) timelines. While these optimistic timelines can lead to increased productivity, they have been a thorn in the side of Wall Street investors, who are often hyper focused on quarterly results as opposed to long-term results. As a result, investors will want to see progress on Tesla’s Robotaxi & Cybercab commercialization, its FSD adoption rates, and Optimus and AI Compute expansion.

Tesla Q2 EPS Preview: Can Earnings Electrify the Stock?

Sunrun (RUN) shares ended the last trading session 12.6% higher at $14.42. The jump came on an impressive volume with a higher-than-average number of shares changing hands in the session. This compares to the stock's 12.6% loss over the past four weeks.
Sunrun stock skyrocketed after the company announced a partnership with Tesla and Renew Home to create a massive virtual power plant network capable of delivering more than 16 GW of flexible electricity capacity. The initiative will aggregate residential batteries, solar systems, and connected home devices to help utilities and data centers meet rising electricity demand, particularly from AI-driven infrastructure.
The deal strengthens RUN’s position as a distributed energy platform rather than just a residential solar installer. By leveraging its growing fleet of home batteries to provide grid services, the company can unlock new recurring revenue opportunities.
This solar energy products distributor is expected to post quarterly earnings of $0.10 per share in its upcoming report, which represents a year-over-year change of -90.7%. Revenues are expected to be $727.75 million, up 27.8% from the year-ago quarter.

Sunrun (RUN) Soars 12.6%: Is Further Upside Left in the Stock?

Sunrun (NASDAQ:RUN), a residential solar and battery subscription services provider, closed at $14.41, up 12.53%. Sunrun rose after announcing a framework agreement with Tesla and Renew Home to aggregate more than 16 gigawatts of flexible residential energy capacity for data centers and utilities. Investors are watching to see whether that power deal translates into measurable revenue and contract growth. Trading volume reached 52.6M shares, coming in about 482% above its three-month average of 9.0M shares. Sunrun IPO'd in 2015 and has grown 34% since going public.
How the markets moved today
The S&P 500 fell 0.08% to 7,360, while the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.43% to 25,477. Among residential solar energy and home battery storage services rivals, Enphase Energy rose 1.26% to $47.81, while SolarEdge Technologies fell 4.79% to $49.85, underscoring a mixed session for the group.
What this means for investors
Sunrun shares popped 13% today thanks to a promising deal between it, Tesla, and Renew Home to potentially deliver 16 Gigawatts of flexible power to data center customers already facing a power supply shortage. The deal would aggregate power from millions of companies’ solar, battery, and thermostat devices across the U.S. and deliver it as “capacity-as-a-solution” to hyperscaler customers -- all without requiring additional products or upgrades for homeowners.
Over time, this partnership could create “the largest distributed power plant in the country,” adding capacity, flexibility, and resilience to an already-stressed, largely outdated power grid. With 25% of Sunrun’s shares held short, I think it will be an interesting, albeit highly volatile, stock to watch going forward following this deal.

Par Petroleum (PARR) Q1 Earnings and Revenues Miss Estimates

Enphase Energy, Inc. ENPH reported first-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings of 47 cents per share, which decreased 30.9% from 68 cents reported in the prior-year quarter. However, the bottom line topped the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 43 cents by 8.2%.
Including one-time adjustments, the company posted a GAAP loss of 6 cents per share against GAAP earnings of 22 cents in the year-ago quarter.
