Amazon
Nonstore retailers, which include e-commerce companies like Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), saw their sales rise 7.2% in November. As the largest company in the e-commerce space, this likely bodes well for Amazon, with its recent sales momentum continuing.
On top of that, the company has been seeing growth in its sponsored ad business, as well as strong operating leverage in its retail operations due to efficiencies from its use of robots and artificial intelligence (AI). Throw in accelerating growth from its cloud computing unit, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Amazon's stock looks well positioned to bounce back in 2026.
Nike and Dick's Sporting Goods
Two of the best performing categories in the November retail report were sporting goods stores, which saw a 7.8% increase in November sales. Clothing stores were up 7.5%. Combine that with strong insider buying at the company in late December, and that could be a good sign that Nike's (NYSE: NKE) turnaround is starting to take hold.
On the inside buying front, CEO Elliot Hill bought more than $1 million in shares, while Nike director and Apple CEO Tim Cook purchased nearly $3 million in Nike stock.
Nike has started to see sales turn around in North America and Europe this fiscal year, but it still needs to improve its business in China and recover lost gross margins caused by discounting and tariffs. However, its turnaround seems headed in the right direction.
Dick's Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS) also looks like a solid potential winner from the November sales report. The company's core business has been solid, as it's leaned into more experiential experiences to draw in customers.
However, it's currently absorbing its recent acquisition of Foot Locker and working to improve that business by shuttering underperforming stores and clearing out stale inventory. The company has set a low bar with guidance, so the setup could be solid moving forward.
E.l.f Beauty
Another potential winner from the November retail report is e.l.f. Beauty (NYSE: ELF). Health and personal care stores, which include both pharmacies and beauty retailers, saw sales rise a robust 6.7% year over year in November. That bodes well for e.l.f. since its products are sold through both these outlets.
E.l.f.'s namesake brand has long been taking market share in this space, while it recently acquired Rhode, which had a strong debut at LVMH's Sephora stores in September. With mass cosmetic sales rebounding and a long runway of growth with Rhode, the setup for e.l.f. looks solid in 2026.
Toast
Another strong category from the November retail report was food services and drinking places, which saw their sales rise 4.9% year over year. This should benefit restaurant software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider Toast (NYSE: TOST), which also benefits from its customers' increasing sales through its payment processing solutions. The company is growing quickly by adding new locations, and rising restaurant sales should be another tailwind for the company.
Potential losers
While the November retail report was strong overall, not every category was a winner. Furniture stores and building material and garden supply dealers both saw negative sales growth, with sales down 1.4% and 2.8%, respectively.
This likely will continue to weigh on furniture sales of companies like RH (NYSE: RH), which is trying to navigate an expensive European expansion during a difficult home furnishings market.
RH stock is off to a blistering start in 2026 after the White House announced it was delaying some increased furniture tariffs until 2027, but the market remains difficult.
Meanwhile, Home Depot (NYSE: HD) and Lowe's (NYSE: LOW) have both struggled with same-store sales growth the past few years. Both stocks have also had strong starts to 2026, but time will tell if that will continue, given the ongoing pressures in the industry.

Retail Sales Climb: A Look at Some Potential Stock Winners and Losers

Berkshire Hathaway’s BRK.B Service and Retailing operations are a vital pillar of its long-term growth strategy, contributing significantly to revenues, earnings stability and diversification. Spanning service, retaining, Pilot and McLane, these businesses operate in cyclical yet essential sectors, providing dependable cash flows that help offset fluctuations in financial markets and insurance results.

Two stocks surged Monday in the wake of President Donald Trump's latest tariff announcement, and both now may be positioned for a great 2026.
I'm talking about online home furnishings retailer Wayfair (NYSE: W) and luxury furniture retailer RH (NYSE: RH).

On the last day of 2025, the White House announced it was delaying the previously announced tariff increases for upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets, and vanities for another year.
In September, Trump announced 25% tariffs on furniture and cabinets, and said he would increase those taxes to 50% on cabinets and 30% on furniture this year. His reversal, delaying those tax hikes, was good news for furniture retailers, and investors expressed their enthusiasm Monday by sending Wayfair 6.5% higher and RH up 9.3%.
Rising consumer spending this year could help these stocks
With those higher tariffs on hold and consumer discretionary spending potentially poised for a boost this spring due to the higher expected tax refunds stemming from the "big, beautiful bill," stocks of retailers like Wayfair and RH could have more upside in 2026. The Tax Foundation estimates that legislation, which cut 2025's taxes retroactively, could reduce individual taxes by $144 billion and lift the average refund by between $300 and $1,000.
Due to intensifying concerns about higher prices, the stocks of Wayfair and RH went in different directions in 2025. The share price of upscale home furnishings chain RH (formerly known as Restoration Hardware) fell by about 50% during the year as consumers generally favored bargains over luxury goods. By contrast, shares of Wayfair, which sells discount furniture and has frequent sales and clearance events, soared by more than 130% during the year.
Both, however, rely heavily on imports -- and particularly imports from Asia -- to source their offerings. In general, Asian exporters dominate U.S. furniture imports.
Of course, much will also depend on the state of the U.S. housing market, which has been moribund in recent years due to higher mortgage rates, high prices, and limited supply. The two factors have combined to render a $300,000 home purchase unaffordable for the majority of U.S. households, while the median-priced new home was around $460,000 in 2025.
Things could change, however, in 2026. New home construction has picked up, leading to a growing supply of homes after several years of more limited inventory. And the Federal Reserve remains in easing mode, which should bring mortgage rates down, albeit gradually.
A delay on tariff hikes, coupled with rising affordability and some new life in the housing industry, could send shares of these two furniture retailers higher this year.

Trump's Latest Move on Tariffs Makes These 2 Stocks a Buy for 2026

The furniture industry just got a bit of breathing room on the tariff front. On Dec. 31, the White House said it would delay a planned increase in tariff rates for upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets, and vanities that was scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2026, while leaving the current 25% tariff in place.
Shares of RH (NYSE: RH) and other furniture companies rose on the news. Tariff uncertainty has been one more weight on an already choppy backdrop for the luxury furniture specialist. The company has been up against "the worst housing market in almost 50 years," RH CEO Gary Friedman told investors in the company's third-quarter update.

Despite the challenges it has faced, RH has returned to top-line growth and is reporting substantial free cash flow. In addition, it has been investing heavily in a global expansion it hopes will dramatically expand its addressable market.
Combining this positive news about tariffs with RH's recent business momentum and a stock that is still beaten down from previous highs, it's a good time to look at the stock.
Uncertainty is the real issue
Tariffs have been damaging to RH's business in more ways than one. Yes, they hurt margins. But the volatile tariff environment has also led to significant uncertainty for management and its customers. Putting the volatile environment into perspective, Friedman noted in the company's most recent quarterly update that there have been "16 different tariff announcements over the past 10 months that have resulted in significant resourcing, product delays, out of stocks, and driven multiple rounds of price negotiations and increases."
While the White House didn't eliminate tariffs, it did delay a big step-up in tariffs. This will not only save RH money, but it will also help it plan its marketing and sourcing with a little more confidence.
Meanwhile, the company has been doing its best to address tariff challenges head-on by shifting sourcing away from China and implementing other measures to reduce its exposure to tariffs.
Robust free cash flow
The best reason RH stock looks more interesting today, however, is not the tariff delay -- it is the company's recent cash generation.
Helped by 9% revenue growth in its most recent quarter, RH's third-quarter free cash flow came in at $83 million, bringing year-to-date free cash flow to $198 million. Management also reiterated a full-year free-cash-flow outlook of $250 million to $300 million. For a company with a market capitalization of $3.6 billion, this is substantial.
Not only does strong free cash flow during a difficult housing market highlight the resilience of RH's business, but it also suggests the company should have no problem paying down its debt in the coming years -- and it has a lot of it. RH ended the third quarter with net debt of about $2.4 billion.
International expansion
But strong free cash flow isn't the only reason to be upbeat about RH. The company's international expansion also looks promising.
The company opened RH England in 2023 and expanded to Paris in 2025. Even more, the company positioned these locations as more than stores -- they are immaculate, immersive brand statements designed to build awareness and drive demand for its nascent design services business. RH believes these stores will make a lasting statement about its brand and establish RH as a global brand.
The company has also laid out plans for additional European galleries, including openings in London and Milan in 2026.
Importantly, RH is telling investors to expect near-term financial drag from this strategy. In the third-quarter outlook, management said its guidance included roughly a 200-basis-point operating-margin impact from investments and start-up costs tied to international expansion.
But if RH succeeds in building a durable luxury brand overseas, today's stock price could look cheap in hindsight.
Is RH stock a buy?
Overall, shares look attractive at a valuation of 13 times the midpoint of management's full-year 2025 free cash flow guidance. But given the stock's debt levels and the unpredictable nature of both housing and furniture markets, investors should keep in mind that there are risks.
Additionally, it may make sense for investors who do buy shares to keep their positions small, given how volatile furniture sales have proven to be in recent years. While RH's sales could surge higher if the housing market picks back up, uncertainty in the housing market could also send luxury furniture sales sharply lower.
The tariff delay is undoubtedly a positive development for RH. It reduces tariff uncertainty and gives management more visibility. But the real reason to be excited about RH stock is its free cash flow and international expansion.

Is RH Stock a Buy as Furniture Tariff Increases Get Delayed?

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Friday closed up +0.19%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) closed up +0.66%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed down -0.17%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) rose +0.17%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) fell -0.19%.
Stock indexes settled mixed on Friday. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average recovered from 2-week lows and finished higher, driven by strength in chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks. However, stock gains were limited, and the Nasdaq 100 fell to a 2-week low amid weakness in megacap technology stocks. Also, weakness in cybersecurity stocks and insurance companies limited gains in the broader market. In addition, higher bond yields were a negative factor for stocks, as the 10-year T-note yield climbed to a 1.5-week high of 4.19% on Friday.

Strength in European stocks on Friday provided carryover support to US equity markets after the Euro Stoxx 50 rallied to a new record high.
The US Dec S&P manufacturing PMI was kept unrevised at 51.8, right on expectations.
The markets are discounting the odds at 15% for a -25 bp rate cut at the FOMC’s next meeting on January 27-28.
Overseas stock markets settled higher on Friday. The Euro Stoxx 50 rallied to a new all-time high and closed up by +1.02%. China’s Shanghai Composite and Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 are closed today for the New Year’s Day holidays.
Interest Rates
March 10-year T-notes (ZNH6) on Friday closed down -7.5 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield rose +2.0 bp to 4.187%. Mar T-notes fell to a 1.5-week low on Friday, and the 10-year T-note yield rose to a 1.5-week high of 4.195%. T-notes fell on Friday as inflation expectations rose, as the 10-year breakeven inflation rate climbed to a 2.5-week high of 2.264%. Also, negative carryover from a slide in 10-year European government bond prices to 1.5-week lows on Friday weighed on T-notes.
European government bond yields moved higher on Friday. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 1.5-week high of 2.910% and finished up +4.5 bp to 2.900%. The 10-year UK gilt climbed to a 1.5-week high of 4.537% and finished up +5.8 bp on that high.
The Eurozone Dec S&P manufacturing PMI was revised downward by -0.4 to 48.4 from the previously reported 49.2.
The Eurozone Nov M3 money supply rose +3.0% y/y, stronger than expectations of +2.7% y/y and the highest in four months.
The UK Dec S&P manufacturing PMI was revised downward by -0.6 to 50.6 from the previously reported 51.2.
Swaps are discounting a 1% chance of a +25 bp rate hike by the ECB at its next policy meeting on February 5.
US Stock Movers
Chip makers and AI-infrastructure stocks moved higher on Friday to support gains in the overall market. Sandisk (SNDK) closed up more than +15% to lead gainers in the S&P 500, and Micron Technology (MU) closed up more than +10% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100. Also, ASML Holding NV (ASML) closed up more than +8% after Alethia Capital double-upgraded the stock to buy from sell with a price target of $1,500. In addition, Lam Research (LRCX) closed up more than +8%, and Intel (INTC) closed up more than +6%. Finally, Marvell Technology (MRVL) closed up more than +5%, and Western Digital (WDC), ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), Applied Materials (AMAT), KLA Corp (KLAC), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Seagate Technology Holdings (STX) closed up more than +4%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks rallied on Friday as Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) rose more than +1%. Riot Platforms (RIOT) closed up more than +11%, and Mara Holdings (MARA) and Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) closed up more than +10%. Also, Coinbase Global (COIN) closed up more than +4%, and Strategy (MSTR) closed up more than +3%.
The Magnificent Seven stocks gave up early gains on Friday and turned lower, weighing on the broader market. Tesla (TSLA) closed down more than -2% after reporting Q4 vehicle deliveries of 418,227, weaker than the consensus of 440,907. Also, Microsoft (MSFT) closed down more than -2%, and Amazon.com (AMZN) and Meta Platforms (META) closed down more than -1%. In addition, Apple (AAPL) closed down -0.34%. However, Nvidia (NVDA) bucked the trend and closed up more than +1%, and Alphabet (GOOGL) closed up +0.69%.
Cybersecurity stocks fell on Friday, weighing on the Nasdaq 100. Atlassian (TEAM) closed down more than -4%, and CrowdStrike Holdings (CRWD) closed down more than -3%. Also, Palo Alto Networks (PANW) closed down more than -2%, and Zscaler (ZS) and Fortinet (FTNT) closed down more than -1%.
Insurance stocks were under pressure on Friday. Progressive (PGR) closed down more than -6%, and Erie Indemnity (ERIE) closed down more than -3%. Also, Allstate (ALL) closed down more than -2%, and American International Group (AIG) and Travelers (TRV) closed down more than -1%.
Sable Offshore (SOC) closed up more than +30% after a federal appeals court said the company can restart its California pipeline and can begin pumping oil from its three platforms off the coast of Santa Barbara, California.
RH (RH) closed up more than +8%, and Wayfair (W) closed up more than +6% after President Trump delayed tariff increases on upholstered furniture until next year.
Vertiv Holdings (VRT) closed up more than +8% after Barclays upgraded the stock to overweight from equal weight with a price target of $200.

Stocks Settle Mixed on Strength in Chip Makers and Weakness in Megacap Tech

Key Points
The Trump Administration delayed new tariff increases on certain furniture items that were supposed to go into effect January 1.
Still, the initial industry-specific rates imposed in September will remain.
The furniture industry has sustained multiple headwinds over the past four years, with RH stock still down 76% from its highs.
Shares of luxury furniture-maker RH (NYSE: RH) were up strongly to start 2026, rising 9.6% as of 2:52 p.m. EDT.
RH rallied along with its furniture sector peers on news that the Trump Administration's harsh furniture tariffs, initially announced back in September, wouldn't increase as expected until 2027, amounting to a one-year delay.

Trump listens to U.S. furniture-makers
In September, the Trump administration imposed a 25% tariff on imported upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets, and vanities. Moreover, the tariff rate on upholstered furniture was set to rise to 30%, and the tariff rate on cabinets and vanities was set to rise to 50% on January 1. However, President Trump signed an executive order just before the new year, delaying those increases until 2027, citing progress on trade talks as the reason.
While the Administration's stated objective was to revive North Carolina's furniture manufacturing industry, RH CEO Gary Friedman has noted on the company's previous earnings calls that the tariffs could have severe negative consequences for smaller furniture-makers. RH also lowered its operating margin guidance for the year on its lastearnings call citing a 90-basis-point impact from tariffs.
Friedman said on the call, "Tariffs are disrupting supply chains and driving higher prices. There have been 16 different tariff announcements over the past 10 months that have resulted in significant resourcing product delays, out-of-stocks, and driven multiple rounds of price negotiations and increases."
Therefore, the fact that tariffs won't be rising yet again to start the year took some pressure off the company, leading to today's stock rise.
RH: A turnaround candidate?
RH was plagued by the tremendous housing market downturn that began after the pandemic, as the company's sales are generally tied to people buying a new house and furnishing it. Furthermore, management took on substantial debt to repurchase stock over the past two years, a move that appears to have been ill-timed and premature, given the continued weakness of the housing market. Then, RH got hit with this year's tariffs.
The toxic combination has left RH's stock down 76% from its pandemic-era highs. But that also means the stock could be a turnaround candidate if these headwinds begin to clear up. That's why the stock made such a big move today, on the mere delay of expected tariff increases.

Also, rising inflation expectations are weighing on T-notes as the 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 2.5-week high today at 2.262%.
