Feb 13 (Reuters) - European shares fell on Tuesday as investors turned cautious ahead of U.S. consumer price data that is crucial to determine the Federal Reserve's interest rate trajectory, and also assessed corporate earnings updates from earlier in the day.
The pan-European STOXX 600 index .STOXX retreated 0.2% from a two-year high, as of 0806 GMT, with rate-sensitive technology shares .SX8P hitting a one-week low after a 1.3% drop.
All eyes will be on the U.S. consumer price index for January, due at 1330 GMT, that will help shape investors' expectations on when the central bank is likely to cut interest rates.
ZEW economic sentiment survey for Germany and the euro zone is due at 1000 GMT.
Among earnings candidates, shares of TUITUI1n.DE climbed 6.7% to the top of STOXX 600 as Europe's largest travel operator reported better-than-expected numbers in the first quarter after it swung to a profit on the back of robust demand.
Thyssenkrupp NuceraNCH2.DE rose 5% after the German hydrogen company's first-quarter sales rose by more than a third, citing rising demand for its electrolyser technology.
RandstadRAND.AS edged 0.2% higher after the Dutch recruiter's fourth-quarter core earnings met market expectations as solid margin and cash generation offset a revenue drop.

European shares fall ahead of US data; earnings in focus

Adds revenue, CEO quote and dividend from paragraph 3
Feb 13 (Reuters) - Dutch recruiter Randstad's RAND.AS fourth-quarter core earnings met market expectations on Tuesday, as solid margin and cash generation offset a drop in revenue.
The world's biggest staffing company's quarterly underlying earnings before interest, taxes and amortisation (EBITA) fell 24% year-on-year to 265 million euros ($285 million), matching analysts' average forecast in a company-provided poll.
Fourth-quarter revenue fell 9% organically to 6.18 billion euros, while analysts had expected 6.24 billion euros.
"The global macroeconomic environment remains uncertain and this is influencing the decision-making of clients and talent," CEO Sander van't Noordende said in a statement.
"That said, labor markets remain tight and we continue to demonstrate our ability to adapt and perform in these changing market conditions," he added.
Randstad said it planned to return around 632 million euros of capital to its shareholders, comprising a regular dividend of 2.28 euros per share and a special dividend of 1.27 euros per share.

Recruiter Randstad Q4 core earnings match forecast

The Invesco International Developed Dynamic Multifactor ETF is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Thursday, with over 518,000 shares traded versus three month average volume of about 30,000. Shares of IMFL were up about 0.9% on the day.
Components of that ETF with the highest volume on Thursday were Big Lots, trading up about 3.8% with over 1.1 million shares changing hands so far this session, and Dow, up about 0.3% on volume of over 1.0 million shares. Rand Capital is the component faring the best Thursday, up by about 4.8% on the day, while BP Prudhoe Bay Royalty Trust is lagging other components of the Invesco International Developed Dynamic Multifactor ETF, trading lower by about 3.2%.
