The company's Electric Power Infrastructure Solutions segment engages in the design, procurement, construction, upgrade, repair, and maintenance of electric power transmission and distribution infrastructure and substation facilities; installation, maintenance, and upgrade of electric power infrastructure projects; installation of smart grid technologies on electric power networks; and design, installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial and industrial wirings. This segment also offers aviation services; emergency restoration services; and other engineering and technical services; design and construction solutions to wireline and wireless communications, cable multi-system operators, and other customers; and training for electric workers, as well as training for the gas distribution and communications industries. The company's Renewable Energy Infrastructure Solutions segment is involved in engineering, procurement, construction, repair, and maintenance of wind, solar, and hydropower generation facilities, as well as battery storage facilities; and provision of engineering and construction services for substations and switchyards, transmission, and other electrical infrastructures. The company's Underground Utility and Infrastructure Solutions segment offers design, engineering, procurement, construction, upgrade, repair, and maintenance services for natural gas systems for gas utility customers; fabrication services for pipeline support systems and structures and facilities; and engineering and construction services for pipeline and storage systems, and compressor and pump stations. The company was formerly known as Fabal Construction, Inc. and changed its name to Quanta Services, Inc. in November 1997. The company was incorporated in 1997 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Comfort Systems Stock Before Q3 Earnings: Buy Now or Wait for Results?

Investors eyeing a purchase of Quanta Services, Inc. (Symbol: PWR) shares, but cautious about paying the going market price of $440.75/share, might benefit from considering selling puts among the alternative strategies at their disposal. One interesting put contract in particular, is the January 2028 put at the $340 strike, which has a bid at the time of this writing of $39.80. Collecting that bid as the premium represents a 11.7% return against the $340 commitment, or a 5.2% annualized rate of return (at Stock Options Channel we call this the YieldBoost).
Selling a put does not give an investor access to PWR's upside potential the way owning shares would, because the put seller only ends up owning shares in the scenario where the contract is exercised. And the person on the other side of the contract would only benefit from exercising at the $340 strike if doing so produced a better outcome than selling at the going market price. So unless Quanta Services, Inc. sees its shares decline 23% and the contract is exercised (resulting in a cost basis of $300.20 per share before broker commissions, subtracting the $39.80 from $340), the only upside to the put seller is from collecting that premium for the 5.2% annualized rate of return.
Interestingly, that annualized 5.2% figure actually exceeds the 0.1% annualized dividend paid by Quanta Services, Inc. by 5.1%, based on the current share price of $440.75. And yet, if an investor was to buy the stock at the going market price in order to collect the dividend, there is greater downside because the stock would have to fall 23.01% to reach the $340 strike price.
Always important when discussing dividends is the fact that, in general, dividend amounts are not always predictable and tend to follow the ups and downs of profitability at each company.
