Phillips 66 operates as an energy manufacturing and logistics company in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and internationally. It operates through four segments: Midstream, Chemicals, Refining, and Marketing and Specialties (M&S). The Midstream segment transports crude oil and other feedstocks; delivers refined petroleum products to market; provides terminaling and storage services for crude oil and refined petroleum products; transports, stores, fractionates, exports, and markets natural gas liquids; provides other fee-based processing services; and gathers, processes, transports, and markets natural gas. The Chemicals segment produces and markets ethylene and other olefin products; aromatics and styrenics products, such as benzene, cyclohexane, styrene, and polystyrene; and various specialty chemical products, including organosulfur chemicals, solvents, catalysts, and chemicals used in drilling and mining. The Refining segment refines crude oil and other feedstocks into petroleum products, such as gasolines, distillates, aviation, and renewable. The M&S segment purchases for resale and markets refined petroleum products, including gasolines, distillates, and aviation fuels. This segment also manufactures and markets specialty products, such as base oils and lubricants. Phillips 66 was founded in 1875 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

With stock market valuations reaching new highs, many investors might think there aren’t many value stocks left out there.
But that would be wrong.
Screening for Growth and Value
Tracey created her own screen to find top value stocks. She included only Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks. This is the top Zacks Rank and is a narrow universe of stocks. There are only 224 Zacks #1 Rank stocks right now out of over 4,000 stocks covered by the Zacks Rank.
A top Zacks Rank means that analysts are raising their earnings estimates.
To find value, the screen included a PEG ratio under 1.0. The PEG ratio is the price-to-earnings ratio divided by earnings growth. A PEG under 1.0 means a company has both growth and value.
The screen also looked for a price-to-sales (P/S) ratio under 1.0. A P/S ratio under 1.0 means you are buying the sales at a discount. A P/S ratio of 0.2 means you are paying $0.20 for every $1.00 of sales.
This simple screen returned just twelve stocks.
3 Strong Buy Stocks with Growth and Value
1. BrightSpring Health Services, Inc. (BTSG)
BrightSpring Health Services offers primary care in the home with a focus on senior and specialty patients. It operates in all 50 states and serves 400,000 patients daily.
Shares of BrightSpring Health Services are up 68.8% year-to-date but it’s still a value stock. Earnings are expected to jump 67% in 2026 and another 19.2% in 2027.
As a result, BrightSpring Health Services has an attractive PEG ratio of just 0.8. A PEG under 1.0 indicates growth and value.

2. Lifetime Brands, Inc. (LCUT)
Lifetime Brands is a leading provider of kitchenware, tableware and other products for the home. It’s well-known brands include KitchenAid and Pfaltzgraff. Lifetime Brands is a small cap company with a market cap of just $207 million.
Shares of Lifetime Brands have soared 125% in 2026. Last quarter, Home Solutions segment was up 23% as the Dolly Parton brand was strong. But earnings are expected to fall 9.9% this year.
It’s cheap, with forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 12.4 and a PEG ratio of just 0.9.
Lifetime Brands pays a dividend, currently yielding 1.9%.
It’s also a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) stock.

3. Phillips 66 (PSX)
Phillips 66 is a large cap American refiner. It has a market cap of $71 billion and operates in Refining, Midstream, Marketing, Chemicals, Asphalt, Fuels and Aviation.
Shares of Phillips 66 are up 39% year-to-date on the favorable crack spreads due to the Middle East war. Earnings are expected to rise 177% this year.
Phillips 66 is also dirt cheap. It has a forward P/E of just 10. A P/E of 10 or less indicates deep value.
Phillips 66 recently raised its quarterly dividend by 7%. It’s now yielding 2.9%.
It’s also a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) stock.

The Power of Institutional Investors
The Zacks Rank also allows individual investors, or retail investors, to benefit from the power of institutional investors.
Institutional investors are the professionals who manage the trillions of dollars invested in mutual funds, investment banks, and hedge funds. Studies have shown that these investors can and do move the market due to the large amounts of money they invest with. Because of this, the market tends to move in the same direction as institutional investors.
These investors are known for designing valuation models that focus on earnings and earnings expectations in order to figure out the fair value of a company and its shares. If earnings estimates are raised, it puts a higher value on a company.
Institutional investors then act on these changes in earnings estimates, typically buying stocks with rising estimates and selling those with falling estimates; an increase in earnings estimates can translate into higher stock prices and bigger gains for the investor.
Since it can often take weeks, if not months, for an institutional investor to build a position (given their size), retail investors who get in at the first sign of upward earnings estimate revisions have a distinct advantage over these larger investors, and can benefit from the expected institutional buying that will follow.

The company has a combined high-complexity throughput capacity of 3 million barrels per day, which distinguishes it from other independent refiners. Valero Energy’s refineries have a combined Nelson Complexity Index of 11.5, implying that they can process a wide variety of feedstock and convert it into higher-value products.

VLO’s Complex Coastal Refinery Network & Operational Flexibility Aids
Valero Energy presents a favorable investment case, particularly due to its high-complexity coastal refinery network and the operational flexibility of its refineries. Notably, its advantaged Gulf Coast refining footprint benefits from crude availability and exposure to export markets.
Management stated that during the first quarter, VLO’s Gulf Coast presence enabled it to take advantage of discounted heavy sour crude feedstocks, particularly following increased Venezuelan supply. With the onset of the conflict in the Middle East, these market dynamics became even more pronounced, as certain heavy crude grades, including Canadian heavy crude, began trading at deeper discounts. The company also added that it continues to optimize its crude slate at the Gulf Coast, enabling it to improve refining economics and support better margins.
The heavy sour discounts act as a tailwind for Valero’s business, particularly in the second quarter. Its highly complex refining system is capable of processing heavy sour grades into high-value refined products efficiently. Additionally, the flexibility of Valero’s refinery systems allows it to shift product yields between light products and distillates based on market signals to capture higher margins during volatile times. These factors enable the company to lower its input costs while capturing better refining margins by adjusting its refining mix.

Valero’s Shareholder Returns Framework and Balance Sheet Strength
Valero combines strong free cash flow generation with a disciplined capital allocation approach. The refining player returned $938 million to shareholders in the first quarter of 2026, implying a 59% payout ratio. Additionally, the company announced a 6% increase in its quarterly cash dividend to reward shareholders. Over the longer term, management has consistently delivered on its commitment to return cash to investors, achieving an average payout ratio of roughly 70% between 2015 and 2025. VLO also highlighted that its outstanding shares have declined by nearly 42% since 2014 through opportunistic share repurchases.
Valero’s capital return program is supported by its strong balance sheet. The company’s debt-to-capitalization ratio, net of cash, stood at 18% at the end of the first quarter. Furthermore, its cash and cash equivalents, combined with the liquidity available under its bank facilities, totaled approximately $11 billion at the end of the March quarter. VLO’s healthy financial position also allows it to return excess cash to investors through share buybacks. The company’s financial strength supports dividend growth and opportunistic buybacks, allowing it to deliver long-term shareholder value.
Valuation Snapshot
The valuation snapshot indicates that investors are now willing to pay a premium for Valero Energy due to the company’s strong fundamentals. This is reflected in VLO’s trailing 12-month enterprise value to EBITDA (EV/EBITDA) of 7.84x compared with the broader industry average of 5.87x. However, it is currently trading cheaper compared to its peers, PSX and PBF, which are trading at 12.93x and 9.88x trailing 12-month EV/EBITDA, respectively.

Valero Stock Surges 53.3% in Six Months: Should Investors Buy Now?

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Wednesday closed down -1.62%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) closed down -1.87%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed down -1.98%. June E-mini S&P futures (ESM26) fell -1.62%, and June E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQM26) fell -2.07%.
Stock indexes sold off sharply on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrials falling to a 2.5-week low. Rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East lifted crude oil prices by more than +2% on Wednesday, sparking losses in stocks and bonds. Chipmakers, AI-infrastructure stocks, and the Magnificent Seven technology stocks all retreated on Wednesday, pressuring the overall market. Also, rising crude oil prices weighed on airline stocks, and trucking companies fell after Amazon expanded its LTL freight offering to all destinations in the US, including third-party warehouses, distribution centers, and retail partners.

Stocks extended losses and crude oil prices added to gains on Wednesday when President Trump pledged to strike Iran again after accusing the country of delaying talks on an interim peace deal. Mr. Trump declined to say what targets US forces would hit but said: "We hit them hard yesterday, and we're going to hit them hard again today."
Stocks found some support on Wednesday after US May consumer prices came in as expected, easing inflation concerns. Also, sharp gains in crude oil prices on Wednesday lifted energy producers.
US May CPI rose +4.2% y/y, right on expectations and the fastest pace of increase in 3 years. May core CPI rose +2.9% y/y, right on expectations, and the fastest pace of increase in 7 months.
US MBA mortgage applications rose +10.8% in the week ended June 5, with the purchase mortgage sub-index up +7.3% and the refinancing mortgage sub-index up +15.3%. The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage rose +3 bp to 6.60% from 6.57% in the prior week.
WTI crude oil prices (CLN26) soared more than +2% on Wednesday after the US and Iran exchanged strikes overnight. The US said it had completed an operation that saw fighter jets strike Iranian air defenses, ground control stations, and radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for Iran shooting down a US Apache helicopter. In response, Iran launched missiles at four US military targets and fired drones at the main US naval base in the Middle East, located in Bahrain, and struck Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait. The increase in tensions risks derailing peace talks between Iran and the US, keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed, and further tightening global energy supplies.
The markets are discounting a 3% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on June 16-17.
Overseas stock markets settled lower on Wednesday. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell to a 2.5-week low and closed down -0.66%. China's Shanghai Composite closed down -0.42%. Japan's Nikkei Stock Average closed down -1.89%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) on Wednesday closed down -2.5 ticks, and the 10-year T-note yield rose +2.3 bp to 4.540%. T-notes were under pressure on Wednesday after WTI crude oil prices surged more than +2%, which raised inflation expectations. Losses in T-notes were limited after the US May CPI report rose as expected, easing inflation concerns. Also, strong demand for the Treasury’s $39 billion auction of 10-year T-notes was positive for T-notes, as the auction had a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.57, well above the 10-auction average of 2.47.
European government bond yields moved higher on Wednesday. The 10-year German Bund yield climbed to a 2.5-week high of 3.088% and finished up +3.4 bp to 3.076%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose +2.8 bp to 4.931%.
Swaps are discounting a 99% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on Thursday.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks moved lower on Wednesday and led the broader market lower. ON Semiconductor (ON) and Qualcomm (QCOM) closed down more than -6%, and Marvell Technology (MRVL), ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), and Western Digital (WDC) closed down more than -5%. Also, Broadcom (AVGO), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Micron Technology (MU) closed down more than -4%, and NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI), Microchip Technology (MCHP), and Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX) closed down more than -3%.
Most of the Magnificent Seven technology stocks settled lower on Wednesday, weighing on the overall market. Nvidia (NVDA) and Tesla (TSLA) closed down more than -3%, and Alphabet (GOOGL), Amazon.com (AMZN), and Meta Platforms (META) closed down more than -2%. Also, Microsoft (MSFT) closed down more than -1%. However, Apple (AAPL) bucked the trend, closing up 0.35%.
Airline stocks and cruise line operators sold off on Wednesday as WTI crude oil rose more than 2%, boosting fuel costs and dampening the companies’ profitability prospects. Alaska Air Group (ALK) closed down more than -7%, and United Airlines Holdings (UAL), Carnival (CCL), and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) closed down more than -6%. Also, Delta Air Lines (DAL) and Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL) closed down more than -5%, and American Airlines Group (AAL) and Southwest Airlines (LUV) closed down more than -4%.
Trucking companies were under pressure on Wednesday after Amazon expanded its LTL freight offering to all destinations in the US, including third-party warehouses, distribution centers, and retail partners. FedEx Freight Holding Co (FDXF) closed down more than -6%, and Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL) and XPO Inc (XPO) closed down more than -5%. Also, ArcBest (ARCB) closed down more than -4%, and Saia Inc (SAIA) and CH Robinson Worldwide (CHRW) closed down more than -3%. In addition, JB Hunt Transport Services (JBHT) closed down more than -2%.
Energy producers and service providers moved higher on Wednesday as WTI crude oil rose more than +2%. Devon Energy (DVN) closed up more than +5%, and APA Corp (APA) closed up more than +3%. Also, ConocoPhillips (COP) closed up more than +2%, and Marathon Petroleum (MPC), Phillips 66 (PSX), Chevron (CVX), Diamondback Energy (FANG), Exxon Mobil (XOM), and Valero Energy (VLO) closed up more than +1%.
Super Micro Computer (SMCI) closed down more than -27% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after saying it plans $7 billion in equity and equity-linked financing transactions to fund component purchases.
Dianthus Therapeutics (DNTH) closed down more than -9% after peer developer Sanofi halted a late-stage trial of an experimental therapy for a rare autoimmune disorder, citing efficacy concerns.
Summit Therapeutics (SMMT) closed down more than -8% after announcing it had commenced an underwritten public offering of $500 million of shares of its common stock.
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store (CBRL) closed up more than +22% after raising its full-year revenue forecast to $3.27 billion to $3.30 billion from a previous estimate of $3.24 billion to $3.27 billion, stronger than the consensus of $3.25 billion.
Casey’s General Stores (CASY) closed up more than +20% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q4 revenue of $4.57 billion, above the consensus of $4.32 billion.
Live Nation Entertainment (LYV) rose more than +2% after Morgan Stanley raised its price target on the stock to $200 from $185, saying concerns around the impact of regulation on resale ticket pricing are overstated.
Illumina (ILMN) closed up more than +1% after JPMorgan Chase upgraded the stock to overweight from neutral with a price target of $185.

Stocks Settle Sharply Lower on Escalating Middle East Tensions

US May CPI rose +4.2% y/y, right on expectations and the fastest pace of increase in 3 years. May core CPI rose +2.9% y/y, right on expectations, and the fastest pace of increase in 7 months.
US MBA mortgage applications rose +10.8% in the week ended June 5, with the purchase mortgage sub-index up +7.3% and the refinancing mortgage sub-index up +15.3%. The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage rose +3 bp to 6.60% from 6.57% in the prior week.
WTI crude oil prices (CLN26) are up more than +1% today after the US and Iran exchanged strikes overnight. The US said it had completed an operation that saw fighter jets strike Iranian air defenses, ground control stations, and radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for Iran shooting down a US Apache helicopter. In response, Iran launched missiles at four US military targets and fired drones at the main US naval base in the Middle East, located in Bahrain, and struck Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait. Gains in crude prices accelerated today when President Trump said that Iran has taken too long to make a deal and that they will now have to “pay the price,” fueling concerns that the US may escalate military attacks on Iran.
The markets are discounting a 0% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on June 16-17.
Overseas stock markets are mixed today. The Euro Stoxx 50 recovered from a 2.5-week low and is up +0.03%. China's Shanghai Composite closed down -0.42%. Japan's Nikkei Stock Average closed down -1.89%.

Supply pressures are also weighing on T-note prices as the Treasury will auction $39 billion of 10-year T-notes later today. T-notes recovered from their worst levels after the US May CPI report rose as expected, easing inflation concerns.
European government bond yields are moving higher today. The 10-year German Bund yield climbed to a 2.5-week high of 3.088% and is up +1.7 bp to 3.060%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is up +1.7 bp to 4.920%.

Phillips 66 (PSX) Sees a More Significant Dip Than Broader Market: Some Facts to Know

However, home builders and suppliers rallied on Tuesday after US Apr existing home sales rose to a 5-month high. Also, airline stocks and cruise line operators moved higher as the slump in crude prices on Tuesday lowered fuel costs and boosted the companies’ profitability prospects.
Tuesday’s US economic news was supportive for stocks, as the Apr trade deficit eased to -$55.9 billion from -$56.6 billion in Mar, narrower than the -$56.1 billion expected. Also, May existing home sales rose +3.2% m/m to a 5-month high of 4.17 million, stronger than expectations of 4.07 million.
Crude oil prices sank on Tuesday to a 7-week low after Iran and Israel agreed to end hostilities toward each other. President Trump on Tuesday predicted a swift end to war with Iran and a subsequent fall in oil prices and said, “We’re in the final throes of what will be a very, very good deal, and that they could have at least an idea one or two days from now” about the deal. However, crude price bounced off its low and stocks added to their losses Tuesday afternoon when President Trump blamed Iran for shooting down a US military helicopter and said the US would respond, reigniting fears that the US-Iran peace plan is in peril and the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed, further tightening global oil supplies.
China trade news was better than expected, a positive factor for global economic growth. May exports rose +19.4% y/y, stronger than expectations of +15.0% y/y. Also, May imports rose +27.4% y/y, stronger than expectations of +26.0% y/y.
The markets are discounting a 3% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on June 16-17.
Overseas stock markets settled mixed on Tuesday. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell from a 1.5-week high and closed down -0.21%. China's Shanghai Composite closed up +1.28%. Japan's Nikkei Stock Average closed up +2.17%.

Sep T-note prices rose on Tuesday amid a -3% plunge in WTI crude oil prices, which eased inflation expectations. The 10-year breakeven inflation rate fell to a 2-month low of 2.337% on Tuesday. Also, Tuesday’s stock sell-off boosted safe-haven demand for T-notes.
Tuesday’s stronger-than-expected US May existing home sales report limited gains in T-notes. Also, so-so demand for the Treasury’s $58 billion auction of 3-year T-notes was negative for T-notes, as the bid-to-cover ratio was 2.64, below the 10-auction average of 2.65.

German trade news was better than expected as Apr exports unexpectedly rose +0.9% m/m, stronger than expectations of a-0.5% m/m decline. Also, Apr imports unexpectedly rose +1.2% m/m versus expectations of a -2.0% m/m decline.

Broader Market Pressured as Chip Stocks Sink

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) today is down -0.28%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) is up +0.19%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is down -0.80%. June E-mini S&P futures (ESM26) are down -0.25%, and June E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQM26) are down -0.74%.
Stock indexes gave up an early advance today and are trading mixed, with the S&P 500 falling to a 2.5-week low. Chipmakers gave up an early advance today and turned lower, weighing on the broader market. Also, weakness in software stocks is a drag on the overall market, and energy producers are sliding with today’s -3% plunge in WTI crude oil prices (CLN26) to a 1-week low.

Today’s US economic news was supportive for stocks, as the Apr trade deficit eased to -$55.9 billion from -$56.6 billion in Mar, narrower than the -$56.1 billion expected. Also, May existing home sales rose +3.2% m/m to a 5-month high of 4.17 million, stronger than expectations of 4.07 million.
Crude oil prices are sinking today and posted a 1-week low after Iran and Israel agreed to end hostilities toward each other. President Trump today predicted a swift end to war with Iran and a subsequent fall in oil prices and said, “We’re in the final throes of what will be a very, very good deal, and that they could have at least an idea one or two days from now” about the deal.
China trade news was better than expected, a positive factor for global economic growth. May exports rose +19.4% y/y, stronger than expectations of +15.0% y/y. Also, May imports rose +27.4% y/y, stronger than expectations of +26.0% y/y.
The markets are discounting a 3% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on June 16-17.
Overseas stock markets are higher today. The Euro Stoxx 50 climbed to a 1.5-week high and is up +0.52%. China's Shanghai Composite closed up +1.28%. Japan's Nikkei Stock Average closed up +2.17%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) today are up +3 ticks, and the 10-year T-note yield is down -2.2 bp to 4.540%. Sep T-note prices are modestly higher today amid a -3% plunge in WTI crude oil prices, which eased inflation expectations. The 10-year breakeven inflation rate fell to a 7-week low of 2.348% today.
Today’s stronger-than-expected US May existing home sales report is limiting gains in T-notes. Also, supply pressures are negative for T-notes, as the Treasury will auction $58 billion in 3-year T-notes later today.
European government bond yields are moving lower today. The 10-year German Bund yield is down -0.9 bp to 3.052%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is down -3.0 bp to 4.9134%.
German Apr industrial production rose +0.4% m/m, right on expectations and the biggest increase in five months.
German trade news was better than expected as Apr exports unexpectedly rose +0.9% m/m, stronger than expectations of a-0.5% m/m decline. Also, Apr imports unexpectedly rose +1.2% m/m versus expectations of a -2.0% m/m decline.
Swaps are discounting a 100% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on Thursday.
US Stock Movers
Chipmakers gave up an early advance today and turned lower, weighing on the broader market. Marvell Technology (MRVL) is down more than -7% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100, and Qualcomm (QCOM) is down more than -6%. Also, ARM Holdings Plc (ARM) is down more than -5%, and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Broadcom (AVGO), and Micron Technology (MU) are down more than -2%. In addition, Nvidia (NVDA), Intel (INTC), and Texas Instruments (TXN) are down more than -1%.
Software stocks are retreating today, weighing on the overall market. ServiceNow (NOW) is down more than -5%, and Workday (WDAY) is down more than -4%. Also, Salesforce (CRM) is down more than -3% to lead losers in the Dow Jones Industrials, and Atlassian Corp (TEAM), Adobe Systems (ADBE), and Palantir Technologies (PLTR) are down more than -2%. In addition, Microsoft (MSFT), Intuit (INTU), Datadog (DDOG), and Oracle (ORCL) are down more than -1%.
Energy producers and service providers are sliding today with WTI crude oil down more than -3% at a 1-week low. APA Corp (APA) is down more than -4%, and Valero Energy (VLO) is down more than -3%. Also, Devon Energy (DVN), ConocoPhillips (COP), Halliburton (HAL), Baker Hughes (BKR), Occidental Petroleum (OXY), Phillips 66 (PSX), Exxon Mobil (XOM), Diamondback Energy (FANG), and Marathon Petroleum (MPC) are down more than -2%.
Airline stocks and cruise line operators are moving higher today with WTI crude oil down more than -3% at a 1-week low, which lowers the companies’ fuel costs and boosts profitability prospects. Alaska Air Group (ALK) is up more than +4%, and American Airlines Group (AAL) is up more than +3%. Also, United Airlines Holdings (UAL), Delta Air Lines (DAL), Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL), Southwest Airlines (LUV), Carnival (CCL), and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) are up more than +2%.
United Natural Foods (UNFI) is down more than -12% after reporting Q3 net sales of $7.72 billion, weaker than the consensus of $7.80 billion, and forecast full-year net sales of $31.10 billion to $31.30 billion, below the consensus of $31.32 billion.
SailPoint (SAIL) is down more than -11% after forecasting Q2 adjusted EPS of 7 cents to 8 cents, the midpoint below the consensus of 7.9 cents.
Novanta (NOVT) is down more than -5% after agreeing to acquire Riverpoint Medical from Arlington Capital for $1.2 billion in cash.
Vail Resorts (MTN) is down more than -4% after reporting Q3 EPS of $8.81, weaker than the consensus of $9.00.

Stocks Erase Early Gains as Chipmakers Turn Lower
