Nucor Corporation engages in manufacture and sale of steel and steel products. It operates in three segments: steel mills, steel products, and raw materials. The Steel Mills segment produces hot-rolled, cold-rolled, and galvanized sheet steel products; plate steel products; wide-flange beams, beam blanks, and H-piling and sheet piling structural steel products; bar steel products, such as blooms, billets, concrete reinforcing and merchant bars, and engineered special bar quality products; and engages in the steel trading and rebar distribution businesses. This segment sells its products to steel service centers, fabricators, and manufacturers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Steel Products segment offers steel joists and joist girders, steel decks, and galvanized torque tubes for used in solar arrays, hollow structural section steel tubing, electrical conduit, fabricated concrete reinforcing steel, cold finished steel, steel fasteners, steel grating and expanded metal, wire and wire mesh, metal building systems, insulated metal panels, steel racking, overhead doors, and utility towers and structures for communications and energy transmission. This segment is also involved in the piling distribution business. The Raw Materials segment produces direct reduced iron (DRI); brokers ferrous and nonferrous metals, pig iron, hot briquetted iron, and DRI; supplies ferro-alloys; processes ferrous and nonferrous scrap metal; and engages in the natural gas production and industrial gas business. This segment sells its ferrous scrap to electric arc furnace steel mills and foundries for manufacturing process; and nonferrous scrap metal to aluminum can producers, secondary aluminum smelters, steel mills and other processors, and consumers of various nonferrous metals. It markets its products through in-house sales force; and internal distribution and trading companies. Nucor Corporation was founded in 1905 and is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Nucor Corporation NUE reported earnings of $2.63 per share for the third quarter of 2025, up from $1.05 in the year-ago quarter. The bottom line beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.15.
The company recorded net sales of $8,521 million, up around 14.5% year over year. The figure beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $8,162.8 million.

Total sales tons to outside customers for steel mills in the third quarter were 4,976,000 tons, up 8% year over year. The figure missed our estimate of 5,095,000 tons.
Overall operating rates at the company's steel mills increased to 85% in the third quarter of 2025, flat sequentially and up from 75% in the third quarter of 2024.
Nucor’s Segment Highlights
In the reported quarter, the Steel Mills segment posted earnings of $793 million, down from the second quarter due to slightly lower shipment volumes and margin compression.
The Steel Products segment earned $319 million, lower sequentially, reflecting higher costs and stable realized prices.
Meanwhile, the Raw Materials segment delivered $43 million, down from the prior quarter, pressured by lower pricing for direct reduced iron (DRI) and scrap processing operations.
NUE’s Financial Position
Cash and cash equivalents were $2,221 million at the end of the quarter, down around 47.9% year over year. Long-term debt was $6,686 million, up 17.6%.
In the third quarter, Nucor repurchased roughly 0.7 million shares of its common stock.
Nucor’s Outlook
The company anticipates fourth-quarter 2025 earnings to decline from the third quarter. In the Steel Mills segment, the fall is expected to stem from reduced overall volumes and lower average selling prices at sheet mills. The Steel Products segment is projected to face lower earnings mainly due to decreased volumes, while the Raw Materials segment is likely to be adversely impacted by weaker realized pricing and planned maintenance outages at the DRI facilities.

Pre-market futures continue their ascent to start a new week of trading, despite starting slowly with new data, either for Q3 earnings or economic reports. The Dow is +246 points at this hour, the S&P +59, the Nasdaq +341 and the small-cap Russell 2000 +24 points. From mid-day lows last Wednesday, the Dow is +1.92%, the S&P +2.60%, Nasdaq +3.79% and +4.27% on the Russell.
Economic reports this week were going to be back-weighted overall anyhow, with Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) for September out Friday. But with the government shutdown now in Day 27, we’ll be going without PCE and several other news items released by departments within the government: Durable Goods Orders, Trade Balance in Goods, Retail/Wholesale Inventories, Weekly Jobless Claims and GDP (a product of overall PCE data).
We will see Case-Shiller home prices for August and October Consumer Confidence Tuesday, as well as Pending Home Sales and the latest FOMC decision, which is nearly iron-clad to deliver another 25 basis-point (bps) cut, to a Fed funds rate of 3.75-4.00% — its first sub-4% read in three years. Mild CPI numbers Friday morning was likely the final straw.
U.S./China trade talks continue — clearly nothing has been said to bum out the markets at this stage — but are still fairly nebulous. Huntington Bankshares HBAN is reportedly buying regional Cadence Bank CADE (Tupelo, MS) for $7.4 billion or roughly $39 per share. And this week brings us the biggest Q3 earnings week so far, by market cap: Alphabet GOOGL, Meta Platforms META, Microsoft MSFT, Apple AAPL and Amazon AMZN.
Keurig Dr Pepper Meets, Gains +10%
Ahead of today’s open, Keurig Dr Pepper KDP is out with its Q3 earnings report — only meeting on its bottom line, 54 cents per share, but +4% on its top line, which reached $4.31 billion in quarterly revenues. Also, the company raised $3 billion in preferred stock from KKR and Apollo (more on this during the KDP conference call), which points toward something more ambitious, perhaps, than the Global Coffee pod manufacturing project also announced today. More Earnings After the Close
This afternoon, we see Q3 earnings season pick up, with numbers due from Nucor NUE, Best Bath & Beyond BBBY, NXP Semiconductors NXPI, Whirlpool WHR and F5 FFIV. We’re officially seeing reports from nearly all spectra of industry in a week that will being us nearly 1000 earnings reports. Only NXPI carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) into its earnings week; NUE and WHR are Zacks Rank #4 (Sell), with BBBY and FFIV Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

Pre-markets Pick Up Where They Left Off Last Week

Nucor Corporation NUE is set to release third-quarter 2025 results after the closing bell on Oct. 27.
The U.S. steel giant surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate in three of the trailing four quarters and missed once. It has a trailing four-quarter earnings surprise of roughly 27.4%, on average. It posted a negative earnings surprise of 0.8% in the last reported quarter. Lower earnings across the segments are likely to have hurt NUE’s third-quarter results.
Nucor’s shares have lost 2.1% over the past year, compared with the Zacks Steel Producers industry’s 10.2% rise.

What do NUE’s Revenue Estimates Say?
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for third-quarter consolidated revenues for Nucor is currently pegged at $8,162.8 million, reflecting a year-over-year rise of 9.7%.
Factors at Play for NUE Stock
Lower segment earnings are likely to have adversely impacted NUE’s performance in the September quarter. Nucor, last month, said that it expects earnings to decrease across all three operating segments compared to the previous quarter. The steel mills segment is expected to have seen decreased earnings due to lower volumes and margin compression, while the steel products segment’s earnings are likely to have decreased from higher average costs per ton as pricing and demand remain stable. The raw materials segment is also expected to have earned lower profits due to weaker profitability in scrap processing operations.
Meanwhile, U.S. steel prices retreated in the third quarter amid cautious buyer activity. The Trump administration's imposition of a 25% tariff on all steel imports into the United States in March 2025 led to a surge in benchmark hot-rolled coil (HRC) prices to a peak of nearly $950 per short ton. While the administration's early June doubling of steel tariffs to 50% and the consequent steel mill price hikes triggered only a temporary lift, these failed to effectively drive up HRC prices further to new highs as intended. Overall demand weakness and abundant steel mill output put a pause on a sustained price rally, dragging HRC prices to around $800 per short ton.
Despite this pullback, stable selling prices are expected to have supported Nucor’s performance in the quarter to be reported. Our estimate for third-quarter average sales price per ton for the company’s steel mills unit stands at $1,041, stable sequentially.
