Northrop Grumman Corp.’s NOC business unit, Northrop Grumman Systems, recently clinched a modification contract involving its E-2D Advanced Hawkeye jets. The award has been provided by the Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, MD.
Details of NOC’s Deal
Per the terms of the deal, Northrop will procure two installation data packages for the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye Fatigue Article Test and Teardown.
Valued at $11.6 million, the contract is anticipated to be completed in April 2028. The majority of the work related to this contract will be executed in Malborne, FL, and Bethpage, NY.

Northrop Secures Deal to Support E-2D Advanced Hawkeye Jets

General Dynamics Corporation’s GD business unit, Mission Systems, recently clinched a contract for engineering, technical support and production of submarine tethered expendable buoy systems. These buoy systems will be deployed on new construction and in-service submarines. The award has been offered by the Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C.
Valued at $91.2 million, the contract is expected to be completed by August 2030. The work related to this deal will be executed in Manassas, VA.
GD’s Growth Prospects
Rising military tensions, terrorism and border disputes are pushing nations to prioritize national security and invest in strengthening their naval fleet, of which submarine constitutes a major part. This growth is supported by higher demand for advanced technologies such as stealth features, underwater monitoring and long-range strike capabilities, along with the increasing sophistication of modern naval operations.

General Dynamics Secures Contract for Submarine Tethered Buoy Systems

As nations across our planet are striving to strengthen their defense capabilities, hypersonic weapons are considered to be a potential game-changer in future warfare. This is due to their extreme speed and maneuverability, which threaten to outpace current defense systems. Since hypersonic weapons are primarily developed for use in missiles, Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT), a prominent missile manufacturer, has been at the forefront of integrating this technology in the modern era battlefield.
The company has been developing highly advanced hypersonic technology for the past 60 years, with its portfolio including several next-generation hypersonic programs, such as the Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon (“ARRW”), Conventional Prompt Strike (“CPS”), and Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (“LRHW”).
Lockheed’s Mako multi-mission hypersonic missile is another game-changing weapon, offered for the U.S. Air Force’s Stand-in Attack Weapon (“SiAW”) program and representing the first generation of missiles designed entirely within a digital engineering ecosystem. Currently, LMT is exploring ways to make the Mako missile quicker and more cost-effective to attract potential customers for making this their next best choice for a hypersonic missile.
The company’s proven dominance in the expanding hypersonic market can be gauged from the fact that the U.S. Army’s third Multi-Domain Task Force successfully deployed LMT’s LHRW system last month, outside the continental U.S. for the first time, as part of Talisman Sabre 25 — a bilateral military exercise between America and Australia. This successful deployment not only highlights soaring demand for LMT’s hypersonic weapons among U.S. allies but also leads the way to future contract wins, as the company keeps working with DARPA, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Navy to transition hypersonic concepts into operational reality.

With China and Russia currently leading the hypersonic race, their western counterparts, especially the United States, is investing heftily in hypersonic technology to keep their prowess in the global defense map. This should fuel growth for U.S. defense contractors like RTX Corp. (RTX) and Northrop Grumman (NOC) (apart from LMT), which are heavily involved in the development of cutting-edge hypersonic technologies.
RTX’s dominance in hypersonic technology, particularly in the United States, is evident from its active involvement in the Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept program. This program is a joint effort by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and the U.S. Air Force to demonstrate the feasibility of hypersonic air-breathing weapons. Welcome to Virginia, LC-3
On Thursday morning, Aug. 28, Rocket Lab officially opened its third "launch complex" in the world, LC-3, at the Virginia Spaceport Authority's Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport on Wallops Island, just off the Virginian eastern seaboard.
LC-3 will be home to Rocket Lab's newest and biggest rocket, the 141-foot-tall, methane-and-liquid oxygen-fueled Neutron. Capable of lifting 13 metric tons to low Earth orbit, Neutron will be 43 times more powerful than its little brother (and Rocket Lab's current only rocket), the Electron. Neutron is scheduled to make its inaugural test flight from LC-3 later this year.
Of course, all of this we already knew about Neutron. We've know this since Rocket Lab CEO Sir Peter Beck promised the rocket was coming, four years ago. But here are three things you probably didn't know about Rocket Lab stock and Neutron., things I only learned myself by attending the LC-3 ribbon-cutting last week.
From MARS to Mars
As Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin pointed out in his opening speech before assisting with the ribbon-cutting, Neutron will be launching from a site at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport -- "MARS," the spaceport. And as CEO Beck observed, bigger rockets can send bigger payloads farther distances -- including to Mars, the planet.
Rocket Lab actually already has two satellites built and ready to go to Mars, as part of the ESCAPADE science mission for the University of California Berkeley's Space Science Laboratory and NASA. What it hasn't had is a rocket big enough to get them there, and delays caused by trying to hitch rides on other companies' rockets -- SpaceX's Falcon Heavy and Blue Origin's New Glenn -- have delayed the mission.
Neutron, when it's ready, could solve that problem by giving Rocket Lab a way to get to Mars under its own power.
Targeting SpaceX
With 43 times the payload capacity of Electron, which can itself often carry multiple small satellites at a time to orbit, Rocket Lab's Neutron rocket is often described as ideal for the deployment of Earth orbit satellite constellations. Rocket Lab's most recent descriptions of the medium-lift rocket, however, suggest the company is preparing to compete with rivals such as SpaceX and Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) in the "cargo resupply" market as well.
Resupply whom, you may ask? Well, the International Space Station is the party most obviously in need of regular resupply runs, and currently, SpaceX and Northrop Grumman are fulfilling that function. NASA has indicated openness to allowing other companies to bid on Commercial Resupply Services contracts, however, awarding one to Sierra Nevada Corporation in 2016, for example. Nearly a decade later, Sierra Nevada has yet to actually perform a resupply mission.
Seems to me that opens up a gap that Rocket Lab may soon be able to fill.
Uncle Sam is looking for a few good astronauts
Arguably the biggest reveal of last week's LC-3 opening, though, was a heavy hint Rocket Lab dropped as to a previously unexpected aspiration: putting astronauts in orbit.
Describing the missions it hopes Neutron to perform once it starts launching, Rocket Lab named all the things we've already discussed -- launching constellations, visiting other planets, "and eventually human spaceflight," too.
This revives an early hope that Neutron might give NASA and other space-users a third way to send astronauts to space, in addition to SpaceX's Crew Dragon and Boeing's (NYSE: BA) ill-starred Starliner.
Admittedly, Rocket Lab stopped short of giving any real detail on its plans to develop a human-rated spacecraft for Neutron to carry. Just the hint it did drop at the LC-3 opening, though, already has investors talking about what Rocket Lab's plans might be along these lines, which could run the gamut from helping to keep space stations crewed, to sending astronauts to the moon or Mars, or even conducting space tourism around Earth.

3 Things I Learned at Rocket Lab's LC-3 Launch Pad Grand Opening Last Week

The Boeing Company’s (BA) defense business has been a stabilizing pillar for the aerospace giant as its commercial division, despite showing growth traits lately, continues to face supply-chain and regulatory challenges, particularly for the 737 line. In the latest quarter, Boeing’s Defense, Space & Security (“BDS”) segment generated $6.6 billion in revenues, accounting for nearly one-third of total sales, underscoring its strategic importance.
The unit posted a 10% year-over-year revenue increase in the second quarter of 2025. Another key performance indicator, the segment’s backlog, surged to $74 billion from $61.6 billion in the prior quarter and $64 billion at 2024-end. This robust pipeline highlights strong demand for Boeing’s defense and space products from the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA, and international customers, while also ensuring the BDS unit’s long-term revenue visibility.
Industry tailwinds like heightened geopolitical tensions, higher U.S. and allied defense budgets, expanding commercial launch services, and increasing space-based systems’ usage in national security are supporting this unit’s growth. At the same time, BDS is leveraging its own capabilities in technological innovation and operational improvements to drive performance.
One notable program is the MQ-25 Stingray unmanned refueling aircraft, which has been undergoing ground testing lately, with the first engineering development model expected to fly by 2025-end. On the operational side, Boeing is focusing on stabilizing fixed-price development programs, improving cost controls, and driving efficiency. The appointment of Steve Parker as the new CEO of this unit this July further underscores management’s commitment to margin recovery.
With a swelling backlog and ongoing initiatives to strengthen execution, Boeing’s defense and space business is positioned to offset commercial volatility and steer the company toward long-term growth.
Other Defense Stocks With Robust Backlog
Apart from Boeing, other prominent defense stocks like Lockheed Martin (LMT) and Northrop Grumman (NOC) also reflect solid backlog strength, indicating a steady order flow each quarter for their respective defense products.
Notably, Lockheed’s backlog as of June 29, 2025, totaled $166.5 billion. Of this backlog, LMT expects to recognize approximately 38% over the next 12 months and a total of roughly 64% over the next 24 months as revenues, with the remainder recognized thereafter.
On the other hand, Northrop’s backlog as of June 30, 2025, totaled $89.7 billion. Of this backlog, the company expects to recognize approximately 40% as revenues within the next 12 months and 65% within the next 24 months, with the remainder recognized thereafter.

Northrop Secures a Deal for Joint Domain Command and Control System

On August 20, 2025, the Raymond James Financial Board of Directors declared a quarterly cash dividend on shares of its common stock of $0.50 per share, payable October 15, 2025, to shareholders of record on October 1, 2025.
The board of directors of Northrop Grumman declared a quarterly dividend of $2.31 per share on Northrop Grumman common stock, payable September 17, 2025, to shareholders of record as of the close of business September 2, 2025.
Ross Stores announced today that the Company's Board of Directors declared a regular quarterly cash dividend of $0.405 per common share, payable on September 30, 2025 to stockholders of record as of September 9, 2025.
