The company sells its products through OEMs, distributors, and resellers; and directly through digital marketplaces, online, and retail stores. The company was founded in 1975 and is headquartered in Redmond, Washington.

Microsoft (MSFT) Reports Q3 Earnings: What Key Metrics Have to Say

Wednesday, April 29th, 2026
“Thank you very much, everyone,” Fed Chair Jerome Powell said to the press corps following the latest FOMC decision, to light applause, “I won’t see you next time.” With that, the Fed Chair changes hands to former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh for the next FOMC meeting in June. As expected, no change was made to the 3.50-3.75% Fed funds rate, just as it has been since December of last year.
The economy continues to expand at a “solid rate,” as stated in the FOMC release prior to Powell’s press conference, with unemployment little changed. Stephen Miran, as expected, was the lone policy dissenter — advising yet another 25 basis-point (bps) cut on interest rates. Fed Presidents Hammack, Kashkari and Logan dissented on the opposite side of sentiment: they did not want to keep language regarding a bias toward easing, as has been the case for quite some time.
Powell spoke to this in the presser, citing that “the center is moving toward a more neutral place,” despite Miran’s opinion to the contrary. The Iran war is contributing to a “high level of uncertainty” regarding the economy going forward, with higher global energy prices adding to inflation pressure. This is reminiscent of tariff inflation from a year ago, which Powell today said he expects will subside over the course of this year.
The burning question on the lips of many in the press corps was answered by Powell before the Q&A period began: he would be staying on as Fed Governor instead of retiring, and will not leave the board until investigations and legal actions taken against him by the Trump administration are truly over, “with finality and transparency.” Currently there is some question whether the Inspector General will reopen this investigation.
In his demure manner, Powell went further than at any time previously in describing what is at stake with the Fed’s independence: legal actions are “battering the institution,” Fed independence is what “separates successful countries from unsuccessful ones,” and “if we had acted politically, we would have no credibility.” The outgoing Fed chair said it is not his intention to interfere with the incoming Fed alignment, and that he will remain on until he finds it “appropriate to leave.”
Heavyweights of AI Report Astounding Earnings, Growth
There’s no other way to describe this afternoon’s earnings results than “gargantuan.” The biggest of the big AI players are beginning to show results of their capital expenditures over the past couple years, and the numbers are astounding.
Microsoft MSFT was the tamest of the lot, with fiscal Q3 earnings per share of $4.27 outperforming expectations by two solid dimes, for a +23.4% positive earnings surprise. Revenues of $82.89 billion easily surpassed the $81.40 billion anticipated. But shares are still -2% on the news, as heavy capex is keeping the stock trading down -14% year to date. Its Business Software unit grew +17% year over year and Azure was +40% (still slightly below their “whisper number”), so you can see the results AI is having for the company already.
Alphabet GOOGL shares are up +5.8% on its Q1 report this afternoon, with earnings of $2.81 per share outpacing the $2.64 projected on +22% revenue growth to $109.9 billion (minus Traffic Acquisition Costs [TAC], as Zacks prefers to report it, this figure reaches $96.2 billion, ahead of the $92.2 billion expected). Services were up +16%, including Search +16% and YouTube +11% in the quarter, but it was Cloud that really saw a huge jump: +63% in revenues to $20 billion, with its AI Gemini unit +40% quarter over quarter.
Amazon AMZN blew the doors off earnings expectations in its Q1 report this afternoon: $2.78 per share versus the $1.60 estimate on $181.5 billion in revenues, up from $177.8 billion in the Zacks consensus. AWS demonstrated its fastest growth in 15 quarters, +28% to $37.6 billion, while operating cash flow rose +30% to $148.5 billion. Yet its extraordinary capex spending — upwards of $200 billion — is giving investors some sticker shock, sending shares down -3.8% in after-hours trading.
Meta Platforms META put up the biggest earnings surprise of them all in its Q1 report after the close: $10.44 per share, crushing the $6.71 estimate and +62% year over year on $56.31 billion in revenues surpassing the $55.49 billion expected, +33% year over year. Yet revenues for next quarter are being guided relatively in-line with earlier estimates while, again, extraordinary capex spending is sending shares -6.7% in the after-market, swinging to negative growth in share price year-to-date.

Powell to Stay on as Fed Governor, Plus Huge Mag 7 Earnings

(RTTNews) - Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) on Wednesday reported strong third-quarter results, driven by continued momentum in cloud and artificial intelligence.
Revenues for the quarter rose 18% year-over-year to $82.9 billion. Net income climbed to $31.78 billion or $4.27 per share, from $25.82 billion or $3.46 per share last year.
Adjusted net income for the quarter was $31.79 billion or $4.27 per share, compared to $26.41 billion or $3.54 per share last year.
Microsoft Cloud revenue reached $54.5 billion, up 29%, supported by robust demand across its platforms. Azure and other cloud services revenue surged 40%, while the Intelligent Cloud segment grew 30% to $34.7 billion.
In Productivity and Business Processes, revenue rose 17% to $35.0 billion, driven by growth in Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365. Meanwhile, the More Personal Computing segment declined slightly by 1% to $13.2 billion.
"We are focused on delivering cloud and AI infrastructure and solutions that empower every business to eval-max their outcomes in the agentic computing era," said Satya Nadella, chairman and chief executive officer of Microsoft. "Our AI business surpassed an annual revenue run rate of $37 billion, up 123% year-over-year."
"We delivered results that exceeded expectations across revenue, operating income, and earnings per share, reflecting strong execution and growing demand for the Microsoft Cloud," said Amy Hood, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Microsoft.

Microsoft Q3 Profit Rises Driven By Cloud, AI Strength

CoreWeave
CoreWeave was originally an Ethereum mining company. But after the cryptocurrency market's crash in 2018, it abandoned that business model and repurposed its mining GPUs to remotely process AI tasks.
CoreWeave subsequently installed more than 250,000 of Nvidia's (NASDAQ: NVDA) top-tier data center GPUs in its servers, and it expanded its footprint from just three data centers at the end of 2022 to 43 locations in early 2026. That scale enables it to process AI tasks roughly 35 times faster and 80% cheaper than larger and more diversified cloud infrastructure platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Azure.
From 2022 to 2025, CoreWeave's revenue surged from $16 million to $5.1 billion. Analysts expect its revenue to surge more than sevenfold to $36.7 million in 2028. That's an impressive growth trajectory for a stock that trades at less than five times this year's sales.
CoreWeave's stock looks cheaper than other AI stocks because it's still deeply unprofitable and ended 2025 with a high debt-to-equity ratio of 13.8. That red ink and high leverage could force it to issue more shares to fund its capital-intensive expansion.
Some investors might also be concerned about its dependence on Microsoft, which historically accounts for over half of its revenue. However, CoreWeave is gradually reducing its dependence on Microsoft through new deals with OpenAI and Nvidia, and analysts expect it to turn profitable by 2028 as economies of scale kick in. Therefore, CoreWeave remains a promising growth stock for investors who can stomach near-term volatility.
Nebius Group
Nebius is another provider of cloud-based AI infrastructure services. It was once known as Yandex, which owned Russia's top search engine and other popular apps. However, it divested its Russian assets in early 2022 (in response to the sanctions against Russia), relocated its business to the Netherlands, and rebranded itself as Nebius.
As Nebius, it operates a single first-party data center in Finland and leases additional data centers through colocation deals in the U.S., the U.K., and Europe. It's also in the process of building a second first-party data center in New Jersey.
Unlike CoreWeave, which mainly processes GPU-intensive AI tasks, Nebius provides customized AI services for the data training, edtech, and autonomous robotics markets. It integrates managed software services (like Kubernetes) into its data centers. By bundling those services, it widens its moat and positions itself as a "full stack" AI infrastructure company.
Nebius' earlier financials (as Yandex) are no longer relevant. But after fully transforming into a cloud-based AI infrastructure company, its revenue surged 351% to $530 million in 2025. By 2027, analysts expect its revenue to surge 19 times to $10.1 billion. It's expected to stay unprofitable, but it ended 2025 with a manageable debt-to-equity ratio of 1.7.
Nebius, which trades at 14 times this year's sales, might seem pricier than CoreWeave. However, it deserves that higher valuation because it's growing faster, less dependent on Microsoft (although it's still a top customer), and it's shouldering less debt. Therefore, it might have even more upside potential than CoreWeave and other slower-growth AI stocks.

It announced a definitive merger agreement to acquire Globalstar. This will enable Amazon’s satellite internet service to launch direct-to-device services. It also recently outlined plans to expand same-day prescription delivery in early 2026. The company’s net income margin was just under 10% for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2025.

Amazon’s revenue is nearly three times Microsoft’s, but Microsoft has posted higher year-over-year growth over the past three years.
Amazon generates revenue across a range of businesses, including e-commerce, advertising, fulfillment services, and cloud services. In the cloud, Amazon leads, with nearly $129 billion in annual revenue from Amazon Web Services.
Microsoft is primarily selling office software and cloud services to businesses and consumers. It generates much less revenue, but it is growing consistently faster. In the December-ending quarter, Microsoft posted a 17% year-over-year revenue increase, outpacing Amazon’s 14%.
Where these companies compete head-to-head is in the cloud, and Microsoft is steadily eroding Amazon’s lead. Revenue from Microsoft Azure grew 39% year over year last quarter, significantly outpacing Amazon Web Services’ 24%.
Investors should watch how these companies’ growth continues to evolve in the coming quarters. Microsoft’s faster-growing cloud business could help it narrow the gap.

From 2026 to 2033, Grand View Research expects the global renewable energy market to expand at a 14.7% CAGR as more industries scramble to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. To capitalize on that trend, investors should check out these two renewable energy plays: Nextpower (NASDAQ: NXT) and Brookfield Renewable Corporation (NYSE: BEPC). Nextpower
Nextpower is a solar infrastructure company that produces solar trackers (that tilt solar panels to follow the sun), electrical balance of systems (eBOS) solutions (for moving electricity from solar panels to the grid), robotics systems (for maintaining solar farms), as well as AI-powered software for predicting weather, automating operations, and optimizing performance.
In other words, it's a "one-stop" shop that supports the construction and entire lifecycle of solar power plants. It still generates most of its revenue from its efficiency-boosting solar trackers -- and still controls more than a quarter of that booming market -- but it's aggressively expanded its non-core businesses through several acquisitions over the past two years. It's set up shop across dozens of countries, but it still generates most of its revenue in North America.
From fiscal 2025 (which ended last March) to fiscal 2028, analysts expect Nextpower's revenue and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) to grow at CAGRs of 14% and 11%, respectively. That growth should be driven by the rapid expansion of the power-hungry cloud and AI markets, new decarbonization initiatives, and its overseas growth. Its new add-on robotics and AI services could also boost its revenue per customer.
With an enterprise value of $16.3 billion, Nextpower still looks like a bargain at 17 times next year's adjusted EBITDA. According to Mordor Intelligence, the global solar market's total volume could expand at a 19.9% CAGR from 2026 to 2031 -- and Nextpower's "picks and shovels" approach could make it a great play on that secular trend.
Brookfield Renewable Corporation
Brookfield Renewable is a more diversified green energy company that builds hydroelectric dams, wind farms, solar power plants, and other green energy projects. At the end of 2025, it had 47 GW of operating renewable capacity and 200 GW of renewable projects in its pipeline. That massive backlog ensures it will grow steadily for the foreseeable future.
Like Nextpower, Brookfield Renewable's growth is being driven by new decarbonization initiatives and the rapid expansion of its cloud and AI markets. It's already secured long-term renewable power agreements with hyperscalers like Microsoft and Alphabet's Google, and it's locking those customers into "inflation escalators" that allow it to raise its prices to keep pace with inflation. It's also benefiting from rising sales of electric vehicles (EVs), which are shifting market demand for gas toward electricity, as well as from industrial companies' reshoring and automating their operations.
From 2025 to 2028, analysts expect Brookfield Renewable's revenue and adjusted EBITDA to grow at CAGRs of 22% and 6%, respectively. With an enterprise value of $57.9 billion, it still looks cheap at 14 times next year's adjusted EBITDA. It also pays a forward yield of 3.9%.
Therefore, Brookfield Renewable is a great stock for income-oriented investors seeking balanced exposure to the growing renewable energy market. However, investors shouldn't conflate it with Brookfield Renewable Partners (NYSE: BEP) -- the older master limited partnership (MLP) that holds the same assets but requires additional tax forms.

Apple AAPL continues to benefit from the strength of its Services segment, supported by growing traction in streaming content and an expanding Apple Arcade gaming portfolio. In the first quarter of fiscal 2026, Services contributed 20.9% of total net sales, with revenues rising 14% year over year to $30.01 billion.
Apple TV+ has been a key growth driver. The platform saw viewership jump 36% year over year in December, fueled by the success of titles like Pluribus. Expanding on this momentum, Apple has announced that Nick Jr. Replay will launch on Apple Arcade on May 7, delivering a curated collection of popular kids’ content and interactive experiences, reinforcing Apple’s focus on family-friendly entertainment.
Apple’s installed base — now exceeding 2.5 billion active devices — continues to provide a solid foundation for Services expansion. Customer engagement remains strong, with both transacting and paid accounts hitting all-time highs in the fiscal first quarter. Apple expects second-quarter fiscal 2026 revenues to grow between 13% and 16% year over year. Services revenues are projected to grow at a pace similar to that seen in the first quarter of fiscal 2026. The Zacks Consensus Estimate currently forecasts that Services is pegged at $30.39 billion, implying 14.1% year-over-year growth.
Apple’s Faces Stiff Competition
AAPL is facing stiff competition from the likes of Amazon AMZN and Microsoft MSFT in domains like streaming and gaming.
Amazon offers Prime Video bundled with its Amazon Prime membership. The service offers both ad-supported and ad-free options. In comparison to Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video has a much larger content portfolio, including originals. Microsoft’s gaming assets include Xbox and Activision Blizzard, and it is investing heavily in gaming studios and subscriptions.
