Rigetti stock is sliding on troubling economic data
Friday's producer price index (PPI) showed core wholesale prices surging 0.8% in January -- nearly triple the 0.3% economists had forecast. The hot inflation numbers likely mean the Federal Reserve will hold off on any rate cuts for longer than expected, and that is not good news for more speculative stocks like Rigetti's.
When interest rates stay elevated, investors are less willing to pay a premium for future profits, especially when those profits are as uncertain as Rigetti's.
D-Wave Quantum stock gets a price cut
On top of that, analysts at Mizuho slashed its price target on D-Wave stock from $46 to $40 on Friday. The company is a close rival of Rigetti, and at this point, investors tend to tie the fates of all of the quantum pure-plays together.
Is Rigetti stock worth buying on the dip?
Quantum computing may well transform entire industries someday. But I think "someday" has a good chance of being much further off than quantum bulls would hope. Rigetti's valuation is still pricing in enormous success that is far from guaranteed. I wouldn't invest until Rigetti's valuation is more in line with reality.

Maintain an outperform rating, Vijay Rakesh, an analyst at Mizuho, lifted the price target on Broadcom stock to $480 from $450.
According to theFly.com, Rakesh based his more optimistic outlook on Broadcom stock after the firm revisited its price targets on semiconductor stocks, believing that many of them have "attractive valuations." Providing an even more ringing endorsement of Broadcom stock, Mizuho named Broadcom as one of its top semiconductor picks for 2026.

While Rakesh sees significant upside to Broadcom stock, investors should hardly take this data point in isolation. Four in a row
Bloom, a developer of cutting-edge fuel cell products, posted its third-quarter results on Tuesday. The company didn't hesitate to say that with its $519 million on the top line -- 57% higher year over year, by the way -- it notched its fourth straight all-time high revenue figure.
Net income not according to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) also saw a supercharged leap, rising by 60% to exceed $34 million.
On average, analysts were collectively modeling only $428 million on the top line, and $0.10 per share for non-GAAP (adjusted) net income.
Inspired by that over-performance, analysts tracking Bloom wasted little time making bullish adjustments to their takes. Among the Bloom-watchers raising their price targets were Morgan Stanley, Mizuho, and HSBC.
A $1.75 billion move
Bloom also had news to report in the financing sphere. On Thursday, it divulged that it intended to float a $1.75 billion aggregate principal amount of convertible senior notes bearing interest of 0% and maturing on Nov. 15, 2030. The notes will be convertible into its class A stock, cash, or a mix of both, although it hasn't published any details yet.
Bloom said it would use its proceeds from the issue for "general corporate purposes," which include the support of research and development and its manufacturing efforts.

What fueled the rally?
The recent rally isn't just sentiment-driven -- Alibaba has started delivering tangible progress in areas investors care about.
In its June 2025 quarter (fiscal Q1 2026), the company reported revenue of RMB 248 billion ($34.6 billion), up 10% year over year (on a like-for-like basis), marking a return to double-digit growth after a stretch of stagnation. More importantly, its cloud business has become the standout performer. Alibaba Cloud revenue surged 26% to RMB 33.4 billion ($4.7 billion), and management disclosed that AI-related revenue grew at triple-digit rates for the eighth consecutive quarter.
That shift is critical because cloud and AI are where the growth is, compared to Alibaba's traditional e-commerce business. With its large language model, Tongyi Qianwen, already integrated across enterprise and consumer applications, Alibaba is positioning itself not just as an e-commerce leader but as an AI platform provider.
Meanwhile, Alibaba has also leaned into growth areas like quick commerce to defend engagement against Meituan and Pinduoduo. While costly in the short term, these moves show management is willing to play offense again rather than simply cutting costs. So far, the outcome has been solid, with e-commerce growing at 10% year over year in the latest quarter.
Together, stronger results, a credible AI story, and signs of renewed strategy execution have fueled the stock's rebound.
The risk of selling too soon
After a near doubling in share price, it's tempting to lock in gains. But selling stock now can mean missing out on the next leg higher.
Alibaba's stock remains far below its peak valuation. At a price-to-sales ratio of just 2.8, shares trade at a fraction of their 2020 multiple of around 7-9 times. Even after the rally, Alibaba is valued more like a retailer than a dominant technology platform with multiple growth levers.
Investor sentiment is also just beginning to shift. In recent weeks, analysts at Mizuho, Bernstein, and Citi raised their price targets or reiterated bullish ratings, citing cloud momentum and AI adoption as underappreciated catalysts. If earnings momentum continues, more institutional investors may return to the stock, driving a potential rerating.
In short, the fundamentals don't suggest Alibaba has already "topped out." Instead, the recovery could be in its early stages if execution holds up.
Alibaba has plenty of work remaining to do
Still, the rally is not entirely risk-free. Alibaba still faces fierce competition in its core e-commerce business from Pinduoduo's low-price strategy and Meituan's dominance in local services. Profitability has also come under pressure from its heavy investments in quick commerce, which weighed on earnings last quarter despite healthy revenue growth. For perspective, non-GAAP net income fell 18% in the latest quarter despite improving revenue.
Geopolitics remains another overhang. U.S.-China tensions around technology exports could complicate Alibaba's cloud and AI ambitions, though the company is hedging this risk by developing its own domestic AI chips.
These factors mean investors should expect volatility ahead, even if the long-term trajectory improves.
What it means for investors
Alibaba's massive rally in 2025 is impressive, but context matters. The stock has rebounded from depressed levels and still trades at attractive valuations. The company's cloud and AI growth show genuine signs of transformation, and early sentiment shifts hint that institutional investors are beginning to take notice.
At the same time, Alibaba isn't out of the woods yet. Competition, macro uncertainty, and regulatory risks remain part of the story.
That's why the best framing may be this: Alibaba is moving from being a "broken" stock to one with optionality again. In other words, the recovery may have more room to run, provided Alibaba executes on its cloud, AI, and commerce strategies in the coming quarters.
For long-term investors, that makes holding -- rather than selling into the rally -- a reasonable approach.

A badly received quarterly earnings report was the major news item exerting gravity on Chewy (NYSE: CHWY) stock over the past few days. As a result, according to data compiled by S&P Global Market Intelligence, the company's share price had slumped by almost 15% week-to-date as of Thursday evening.
Investors didn't like the latest milk bone
That sell-off happened even though Chewy actually topped analyst estimates for revenue and profitability, albeit not by vast amounts.

In its first quarter, the company managed to grow its net sales by more than 8% year over year to $3.1 billion, while its non-GAAP (adjusted) net income improved at a slightly higher rate to just under $149 million ($0.35 per share). Analysts had collectively been modeling a bit below $3.1 billion on the top line and $0.32 per share for adjusted profitability.
While those aren't bad numbers at first glance, Chewy is an expensive stock to own; even after the post-earnings sell-off it was trading at a rich forward P/E of almost 36. For more than a few investors, that's awfully pricey for a company posting single-digit percentage improvements, and at thin profit margins to boot.
Tepid reactions
Meanwhile, as analysts tracking a stock often do, several pundits following Chewy adjusted their takes on the stock. Most of these adjusters raised their price targets, but there were several less bullish updates, too. One was published by Mizuho's David Bellinger, who now feels Chewy is worth $44 per share, down from his previous $47. He maintained his neutral recommendation on the stock.
It's hard to ignore how pricey this stock is at the moment, and to some degree that's a shame. Chewy has been posting good results from its Autoship program lately, a feature that still has plenty of potential to boost valuable recurring revenue. I'm not necessarily hot on this stock, but there might be some upside to it if it can post more convincing quarterly earnings beats.

On Apr. 22, Mizuho Financial Group, Inc. (MFG) analyst Brett Linzey kept an “Outperform” rating on EMR and lowered the price target to $135, implying a potential upside of 24.6% from current levels.
The mean price target of $130.08 represents a 20% premium to EMR’s current price levels. The Street-high price target of $160 suggests an ambitious upside potential of 47.6%.

Zooming in further, GILD’s outperformance looks pronounced when compared to the Invesco Pharmaceuticals ETF’s (PJP) 4.2% rise over the past 52 weeks and marginal downtick on a YTD basis.
On Apr. 24, GILD released weaker-than-expected Q1 earnings results, prompting its share price to plunge 2.8% in the following trading session. The company’s revenue declined marginally year-over-year to $6.7 billion and fell short of the forecasted figure by 2.5%. This decline was mainly due to lower product sales, driven by reduced revenue from its COVID-19 treatment Veklury and weaker Oncology segment performance.
On the earnings front, its adjusted EPS of $1.81 improved significantly from an adjusted loss of $1.32 per share recorded in the same quarter last year, largely due to prior year IPR&D expenses related to the CymaBay acquisition. However, it still came in slightly below the consensus estimates. Adding to the downtick, the company lowered its full-year 2025 EPS guidance, though it maintained its product sales outlook between $28.2 billion and $28.6 billion, with adjusted EPS projected to fall within the $7.70 to $8.10 range.
For the current fiscal year, ending in December, analysts expect GILD’s EPS to grow 71.2% year over year to $7.91. The company’s earnings surprise history is mixed. It exceeded the consensus estimates in three of the last four quarters, while missing on another occasion.
Among the 28 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is a “Moderate Buy” which is based on 19 “Strong Buy,” and nine “Hold” ratings.
