The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that the US is moving a Marine expeditionary unit to the Middle East as Iran steps up attacks on the Strait of Hormuz.

Stocks initially moved higher on Friday when WTI crude oil gave up overnight gains and fell more than -2% after the US granted a temporary waiver allowing buyers to take Russian oil cargoes already at sea. The US Treasury granted a month-long waiver to import Russian oil loaded before Thursday, covering Russian crude oil and fuel on about 30 tankers carrying at least 19 million barrels. Crude was also briefly pressured after the Financial Times reported that France and Italy had opened talks with Iran to negotiate a deal to guarantee the safe passage of their ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Crude prices also found support on Friday after US officials said Iran has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, an effort that could further complicate US efforts to restart shipping in the waterway. Despite the US destroying most large ships in the Iranian navy used to lay mines, Iran began using smaller boats for the operation on Thursday, according to a US official briefed on the intelligence. Goldman Sachs warns that crude prices could exceed the 2008 record high of close to $150 a barrel if flows through the Strait of Hormuz remain depressed through March.
The latest rhetoric from President Trump and Iranian leader Khamenei suggests there will be no immediate easing in the war that has disrupted energy shipments in the Middle East and spurred concerns about rising inflation. Global bond yields have soared this week on inflation fears, with the German 10-year bund yield rising to a 2.25-year high of 2.99% on Friday and the 10-year T--note yield climbing to a 1.25-month high at 4.29%.
Crude oil prices remain underpinned despite attempts to boost global supplies. The IEA on Wednesday released 400 million barrels from emergency oil stockpiles and said the war against Iran is disrupting 7.5% of global oil supply, and the conflict will cut global oil supply by 8 million bpd this month. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas flows, has choked off oil and gas flows due to Iran’s attacks on shipping in the waterway and forced Gulf producers to cut output because they can’t export from the region.
Friday’s US economic news was mixed for stocks. Jan personal spending, Jan JOLTS job openings, and the University of Michigan US Mar consumer sentiment index all rose more than expected. However, Jan capital goods new orders nondefense ex-aircraft and parts, a proxy for capital spending, were weaker than expected. Also, Q4 GDP was revised lower, and the Jan core PCE price index, the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, rose by the most in 1.75 years.

The University of Michigan US consumer sentiment index fell -1.1 to 55.5, stronger than the 54.8 expected.
The University of Michigan's US Mar 1-year inflation expectations were unchanged from Feb at 3.4%, below expectations of a rise to 3.7%. The Mar 5-10 year inflation expectations unexpectedly fell to 3.2% from 3.3% in Feb, weaker than expectations of an increase to 3.4%.
US Jan JOLTS job openings rose +396,000 to 6.946 million, stronger than expectations of 6.750 million.
Q4 earnings season is nearly over, with more than 98% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 74% of the 495 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 1% chance for a -25 bp FOMC rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets settled lower on Friday. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed down -0.56%. China's Shanghai Composite closed down -0.82%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -1.16%.
Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) on Friday closed unchanged. The 10-year T-note yield rose +1.8 bp to 4.279%. June T-notes fell to a 1.25-month low on Friday, and the 10-year T-note yield climbed to a 5-week high of 4.289%. T-notes gave up an early advance on Friday after crude oil prices jumped more than +3%, which fueled inflation fears. Also, mixed US economic news limited gains in T-notes after Jan JOLTS job openings, and the University of Michigan Mar consumer sentiment index rose more than expected, hawkish factors for Fed policy. Conversely, Q4 GDP was revised lower, and Jan capital goods new orders rose less than expected, supportive factors for T-notes. Also, Friday’s stock weakness sparked some safe-haven demand for T-notes.
European government bond yields moved higher on Friday. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 2.25-year high of 2.992% and finished up +2.6 bp to 2.983%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose to a 6.25-month high of 4.825% and finished up +4.9 bp to 4.823%.

US Stock Movers
Meta Platforms (META) closed down more than -3% to lead the Magnificent Seven technology stocks lower after the New York Times reported that the company’s latest AI model has underperformed expectations and will be delayed. Also, Apple (AAPL) closed down more than -2%, and Microsoft (MSFT) and Nvidia (NVDA) closed down more than -1%. In addition, Tesla (TSLA) closed down -0.96%. Amazon.com (AMZN) closed down -0.89% and Alphabet (GOOGL) closed down -0.42%.
Chip stocks and AI-infrastructure companies moved higher on Friday, a supportive factor for the broader market. Sandisk (SNDK) closed up more than +6% to lead gainers in the S&P 500, and Micron Technology (MU) closed up more than +4% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100. Also, Western Digital (WDC) closed up more than +4%, and Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX) closed up more than +2%. In addition, Lam Research (LRCX), Applied Materials (AMAT), and Intel (INTC) closed up more than +1%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks moved higher on Friday as Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) rose more than +1% to a 1-week high. Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) closed up more than +8%, and MARA Holdings (MARA) closed up more than +6%. Also, Strategy (MSTR) and Coinbase Global (COIN) closed up more than +1%.
Mining stocks sold off on Friday as copper prices fell more than -2%, gold prices fell more than -1%, and silver prices dropped more than -4%. Anglogold Ashanti Ltd (AU) closed down more than -9%, and Coeur Mining (CDE) closed down more than -6%. Also, Southern Copper (SCCO) closed down more than -5%, and Newmont Mining (NEM), Hecla Mining (HL), Barrick Mining (B), and Freeport-McMoRan (FCX) closed down more than -4%.
Fertilizer stocks retreated on Friday, giving back some of this week’s sharp gains. Intrepid Potash (IPI) and Mosaic (MOS) closed down more than -6%, and CF Industries Holdings (CF) closed down more than -4%.
EverCommerce (EVCM) closed down more than -15% after forecasting Q1 revenue of $145.5 million to $148.5 million, well below the consensus of $151 million.
Ulta Beauty (ULTA) closed down more than -14% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after it forecast full-year comparable sales will increase 2.5% to 3.5%, below the consensus of 3.5%.
Adobe (ADBE) closed down more than -7% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100 after CEO Narayen said he will resign and remain in his post until a successor has been appointed.
Insulet (PODD) closed down more than -6% after it issued a voluntary recall of some Omnipod 5 Pods due to a manufacturing issue that led to 18 reports of serious adverse events.
ServiceTitan (TTAN) closed down more than -5% after reporting a Q4 EPS loss of -44 cents, wider than the consensus of -41 cents.

MKSI Gets SBTi Approval for 2030 Science-Based Emission Targets

Amkor Technology AMKR is lining up for a pivotal second half of 2026 as structural artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) demand accelerates advanced packaging activity. The company’s setup includes two CPU programs nearing launch and a wave of AI personal computer-related devices ramping earlier in 2026. For the first quarter of 2026, Amkor guided sales to $1.60-$1.70 billion (midpoint up ~25% year over year).
The story for the back half of 2026 is less about a single quarter and more about whether qualification milestones, supply availability and capacity expansions converge on schedule.

AMKR’s AI Packaging Surge in 2026
Computing is expected to grow more than 20% year over year in 2026, an important anchor for Amkor’s AI and HPC exposure. That end-market lift matters because it typically carries higher-value packaging and test content than mainstream work.
The key operating signal to watch is the expectation that advanced packaging platforms, specifically 2.5D and High-Density Fan-Out (HDFO), are expected to nearly triple over the course of 2026. If that ramp materializes, it sets up a meaningful mix shift, especially after advanced products dominated sales in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Amkor’s CPU Program Launch Catalysts
Two CPU HDFO programs are in final qualification and targeted to launch into high-volume production in the second half of 2026. Qualification timing is central because it defines the usable production window for second-half revenue capture and the pace of utilization improvement.
Amkor has also indicated that one of these CPU programs may not reach full volume by year-end. This implies the second half can still show meaningful progress without every program achieving peak run-rate before the calendar turns, which can shift the shape of revenue and margin benefits into later periods.
AMKR’s Constraints That Could Delay the Upside
Amkor has flagged several near-term bottlenecks that can compress the execution window for 2026 ramps. One is research and development labor bandwidth tied to new product introductions, where engineering resources can become a gating factor even if demand is strong.
Operational constraints also include Korea floor space during expansion and equipment lead times. Even with plans in motion, those practical limits can slow how quickly capacity converts into shippable output.
On the supply side, the company is monitoring substrate, advanced silicon and memory availability, along with evolving export controls. Any supply disruption or policy shift that changes customer timing can defer mix improvement and push out the margin uplift tied to better fixed-cost absorption.
Amkor’s Regional Capacity as a Strategic Moat
Amkor’s multi-region buildout is designed around customer resiliency and regionalized supply chains. In Korea, cleanroom space is expected to increase about 20% by the end of 2026 compared with the beginning of 2025, with a new building online as the company exits 2026. That expansion is a direct enabler for higher-value advanced packaging and test work.
Vietnam is another important lever. The facility reached breakeven in the fourth quarter of 2025 and is expected to be at least breakeven in the first quarter of 2026, which helps free Korea’s capacity for higher-value HDFC and test workloads.
In the United States, Phase 1 construction of the Arizona campus is underway. The first phase is planned at approximately 1.8 million square feet, with manufacturing expected to begin in the first half of 2028. The project is supported by potential aggregate incentives upward of $2.85 billion and direct funding awarded up to $407 million, alongside a collaboration with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and customer prepayments/loading agreements.
AMKR’s Margins to Remain Under Pressure
Profitability in early 2026 is expected to be choppy. The first quarter is guided as the seasonal low point for revenues and earnings, with sales guided to $1.60-$1.70 billion and gross margin guided to 12.5%-13.5%. Front-loaded equipment spending is also expected to lift depreciation expense in the first half of 2026.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for first-quarter 2026 earnings is currently pegged at 23 cents, unchanged over the past 30 days. AMKR reported earnings of 9 cents per share in the year-ago quarter.

The second half is expected to look different as AI and HPC programs reach volume and fixed-cost absorption improves. US Jan JOLTS job openings rose +396,000 to 6.946 million, stronger than expectations of 6.750 million.
Q4 earnings season is nearly over, with more than 98% of the S&P 500 companies having reported earnings results. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 74% of the 495 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 1% chance for a -25 bp FOMC rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets are mixed. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up +0.24%. China's Shanghai Composite closed down -0.82%. Japan's Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -1.16%.

June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) today are up by +3 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is down -0.6 bp to 4.255%. June T-notes are slightly higher today, and the 10-year T-note yield fell from a 5-week high of 4.279%. Today’s US economic news, which showed Q4 GDP revised lower and Jan capital goods new orders climbing less than expected, was supportive of T-notes. Gains in T-notes were limited after Jan JOLTS job openings, and the University of Michigan Mar consumer sentiment index rose more than expected, hawkish factors for Fed policy. Also, a rebound in crude oil prices from early losses to higher on the day weighed on T-note prices.
European government bond yields are mixed today. The 10-year German bund yield fell from a 2.25-year high of 2.992% and is down -0.4 bp to 2.953%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose to a 6.25-month high of 4.812% and is up +0.9 bp to 4.782%.

FORM Surges 188% in 6 Months:Will the Momentum Continue in 2026?

Amkor Technology AMKR is positioning 2026 as a step-up year for advanced packaging, supported by rising artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads. Management is framing the demand backdrop as “structural,” with multiple ramps expected to build through the year.
The setup comes with near-term margin pressure tied to seasonality and higher first-half depreciation. Even so, the company’s roadmap points to stronger second-half volume, better absorption and a mix shift that favors higher-value platforms.
AMKR’s AI And HPC Packaging Tailwinds
Amkor is leaning into AI and HPC demand as a multi-year driver of advanced packaging. In 2026, computing is expected to grow more than 20% year over year, and advanced platforms such as 2.5D integration and high-density fan-out are expected to nearly triple over the course of the year.
That matters because these programs are not just incremental unit growth. They pull through more complex packaging content and higher-value process steps, which can lift revenue quality as ramps move from qualification into production.
Amkor’s Advanced Packaging Mix Shift
The mix shift is already visible in recent results. In the fourth quarter of 2025, advanced products accounted for $1.58 billion of sales, while mainstream products contributed $308 million, underscoring how heavily revenues are tilting toward higher-value offerings.
Amkor’s advanced portfolio includes High-Density Fan-Out (HDFO), 2.5D integration, advanced flip chip and related wafer-level capabilities. As these products take a larger share of revenue, the company has more opportunity to benefit from pricing, mix, and operating leverage tied to specialized capacity.
AMKR’s 2026 Ramp Timeline for AI Programs
Management expects a staggered cadence to the 2026 ramps. PC-related AI devices are expected to ramp earlier in 2026, supporting growth on the computing side ahead of the largest server-class launches.
Two CPU programs are in final qualification and targeted to enter high-volume production in the second half of 2026. Amkor has also indicated that one of these programs may not reach full volume by year-end, which narrows the execution window and raises the importance of smooth qualification and supply readiness.
Amkor’s Multi-Region Footprint Strategy
Amkor is executing a multi-region capacity buildout that aligns with customer resiliency needs and supply chain regionalization. Korea’s cleanroom space is expected to increase about 20% by the end of 2026 compared with the beginning of 2025, with a new building coming online as the company exits 2026.
Vietnam is another important lever. The Vietnam facility opened in 2024 and continued scaling in 2025. It reached breakeven in the fourth quarter of 2025 and is expected to be at least breakeven in the first quarter of 2026, which can free Korea capacity for higher-value High-Density Fan-Out and test work.
In the United States, Amkor began construction of a new advanced packaging and test facility in Arizona in the second half of 2025. The first phase is planned at roughly 1.8 million square feet, with manufacturing expected to begin in the first half of 2028. Phase 1 construction is underway and is supported by potential aggregate incentives upward of $2.85 billion and direct funding awarded up to $407 million, alongside collaboration with TSMC and customer prepayments or loading agreements.
AMKR’s Margins to Remain Under Pressure
Profitability in early 2026 is expected to be choppy. The first quarter is guided as the seasonal low point for revenues and earnings, with sales guided to $1.60-$1.70 billion and gross margin guided to 12.5%-13.5%. Front-loaded equipment spending is also expected to lift depreciation expense in the first half of 2026.
Comparisons are complicated by a non-recurring item in late 2025. Fourth-quarter 2025 gross profit included an estimated $30 million benefit from asset sales, helping gross margin reach 16.7%. That benefit will not recur, which can pressure sequential optics even if underlying operations track.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for first-quarter 2026 earnings is currently pegged at 23 cents, unchanged over the past 30 days. AMKR reported earnings of 9 cents per share in the year-ago quarter.

The second half is expected to look different as AI and HPC programs reach volume and fixed-cost absorption improves. Amkor Eyes Strong 2026 as AI and HPC Packaging Ramps Accelerate

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) today is up +0.08%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) is up +0.30%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is down -0.14%.
After initially opening higher, stocks are now mixed. WTI crude oil has rebounded off earlier lows and is up +0.33%. Oil and the Strait of Hormuz are in focus.

The US granted a temporary waiver allowing buyers to take Russian oil cargoes already at sea. The US Treasury granted a month-long waiver to import Russian oil loaded before Thursday, covering Russian crude oil and fuel on about 30 tankers carrying at least 19 million barrels. The Financial Times reported that France and Italy have opened talks with Iran to try to negotiate a deal to guarantee the safe passage of their ships through the Strait of Hormuz. US officials said Iran has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, an effort that could further complicate US efforts to restart shipping in the waterway. Despite the US destroying most large ships in the Iranian navy used to lay mines, Iran began using smaller boats for the operation on Thursday, according to a US official briefed on the intelligence. Goldman Sachs warns that crude prices could exceed the 2008 record high of close to $150 a barrel, should crude flows via the Strait of Hormuz remain depressed through March.
The latest rhetoric from President Trump and Iranian leader Khamenei suggests there will be no immediate easing in the war that has disrupted energy shipments in the Middle East and spurred concerns about rising inflation. Global bond yields have soared this week on inflation fears, with the German 10-year bund yield rising to a 2.25-year high of 2.99% today and the 10-year T--note yield climbing to a 5-week high at 4.28%.
Crude oil prices remain elevated despite attempts to boost global supplies. The IEA on Wednesday released 400 million barrels from emergency oil stockpiles and said the war against Iran is disrupting 7.5% of global oil supply, and the conflict will cut global oil supply by 8 million bpd this month. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas flows, has choked off oil and gas flows due to Iran’s attacks on shipping in the waterway and forced Gulf producers to cut output because they can’t export from the region.

Stocks Retreat From Initial Highs as Oil Prices Rebound

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Thursday closed down -1.52%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) closed down -1.56%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed down -1.73%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) fell -1.49%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) fell -1.75%.
Stocks fell sharply on Thursday as a surge in crude oil prices stoked fears that the war against Iran would crimp global fuel supplies and boost inflation. WTI crude oil prices soared more than +9% on Thursday amid widening disruptions to crude production and transport in the Middle East.

Stocks extended their losses on Thursday, and crude prices added to their gains on comments from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who said that Iran’s leverage of closing the Strait of Hormuz should be used, and attacks on Gulf Arab neighbors will continue. He added that Iran will open unspecified “other fronts” in the war if the US and Israel persist with their attacks. Credit concerns weighed on bank stocks and asset managers on Thursday after Morgan Stanley and Cliffwater LLC capped withdrawals from their private credit funds amid investor demand to redeem more than the funds allow. Private credit funds are grappling with a wave of redemption requests amid growing concerns over the quality of their loans. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.

Thursday’s +9% rally in oil prices raised inflation expectations and undercut T-note prices. Also, concerns that the cost of the ongoing war against Iran will boost the US budget deficit are bearish for T-notes. On the positive side for T-notes on Thursday was strong demand for the Treasury’s $22 billion auction of 30-year T-bonds that had a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.45, above the 10-auction average of 2.39.
European government bond yields moved higher on Thursday. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 2.25-year high of 2.962% and finished up +2.5 bp to 2.957%. The 10-year UK gilt yield climbed to a 6.25-month high of 4.800% and finished up +8.7 bp to 4.773%.
The European Union's economy chief, Valdis Dombrovskis, said the inflation rate could surpass 3% this year, and GDP in the Eurozone could be as much as -0.4 points lower if the war in the Middle East causes crude oil prices to remain around $100 per barrel and gas prices stay elevated for an extended period.

Airline stocks and cruise line operators are falling today due to the 8% surge in crude oil prices, which are boosting companies’ fuel costs and threatening earnings. Carnival (CCL), Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL), Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH), United Airlines Holdings (UAL), American Airlines Group (AAL), Alaska Air Group (ALK), and Southwest Airlines (LUV) are down more than -3%. Also, Delta Airlines (DAL) is down more than -2%.
Chip stocks are sliding today, weighing on the broader market. Lam Research (LRCX), Applied Materials (AMAT), and Micron Technology (MU) are down more than -3%. Also, ASML Holding NV (ASML), Intel (INTC), Analog Devices (ADI), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), KLA Corp (KLAC), ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), Microchip Technology (MCHP), and Texas Instruments (TXN) are down more than -2%.
Fertilizer stocks are climbing today amid supply disruptions from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. CF Industries Holdings (CF) is up more than +7% to lead gainers in the S&P 500. Also, Intrepid Potash (IPI) and Mosaic (MOS) are up more than +4%.
Netskope (NTSK) is down more than -22% after forecasting a Q1 adjusted net loss per share of -6 cents to -7 cents, wider than Q4’s -4 cent EPS loss.
G-III Apparel Group Ltd (GIII) is down more than -14% after reporting Q4 net sales of $771.5 million, below the consensus of $791.8 million.
Dollar General (DG) is down more than -7% to lead losers in the S&P 500 after giving an underwhelming 2027 comparable sales forecast of up +2.2% to +2.7%, the midpoint right on the consensus of +2.45%.
UiPath (PATH) is down more than -5% after reporting Q4 subscription revenue of $251.2 million, below the consensus of $252.1 million.
MercadoLibre (MELI) is down more than -4% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100 after JPMorgan Chase downgraded the stock to neutral from overweight.
GlobalFoundries (GFS) is down more than -4% after a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Co. was said to sell as much as $852 million of its stake in the stock overnight at $41.60 to $42.60 per share.
Dow Inc. (DOW) is up more than +6% after Citigroup upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $40.
Atlassian Corp (TEAM) is up more than +4% after announcing a restructuring that will eliminate about 10% of its workforce. UBS upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $97.
Occidental Petroleum (OXY) is up more than +3% after Wells Fargo Securities double upgraded the stock to overweight from underweight with a price target of $69.
LyondellBasell Industries NV (LYB) is up more than +3% after Citigroup upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $76.
