It offers communications and entertainment services, including video, broadband internet, fixed-line, telephony, and mobiles services to residential and business customers; and business products and services that include enterprise-grade connectivity, data center, hosting, and managed solutions, as well as information technology solutions for small and medium enterprises, international companies, and governmental agencies. The company also operates a sub-sea and terrestrial fiber optic cable network that connects approximately 40 markets. It provides its services under the brands of C&W, Liberty Costa Rica, Liberty Communications, BTC, Flow, and Mas Móvil. The company was incorporated in 2017 and is based in Hamilton, Bermuda.

Looking at options trading activity among components of the Russell 3000 index, there is noteworthy activity today in Newmont Corp (Symbol: NEM), where a total volume of 40,473 contracts has been traded thus far today, a contract volume which is representative of approximately 4.0 million underlying shares (given that every 1 contract represents 100 underlying shares). That number works out to 42% of NEM's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 9.6 million shares. Particularly high volume was seen for the $39.50 strike call option expiring January 10, 2025, with 17,808 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 1.8 million underlying shares of NEM. Noteworthy Wednesday Option Activity: NEM, LILA, HD

Warren Buffett will likely go down as the greatest investor of all time -- and he recently proved just how good he is even at 94 years old. In a last-minute comeback, Buffett's company Berkshire Hathaway beat the broader benchmark S&P 500 yet again in 2024.
Berkshire has now beaten the broader market in three of the last four years. Perhaps even more impressive is that Buffett and Berkshire accomplished this feat in 2024 while hoarding cash and better-positioning the company for a downturn.

Given Buffett and Berkshire's success, it's always a good idea to keep an eye on Berkshire's massive $300 billion equities portfolio for new investment ideas. (Make sure to do your own due diligence and not buy blindly.) Despite their strong track record, Buffett and Berkshire have made some bad picks they've clung to for years. Should you buy Berkshire's three worst-performing stocks over the past decade?
1. Occidental Petroleum -- Down 39%
For this analysis, I looked at the performance of all stocks in Berkshire's current portfolio over the past decade. Buffett and Berkshire have not held all their stocks for a decade, so they may have bought in at better times than indicated. Occidental Petroleum (NYSE: OXY) is one of Berkshire's more recent purchases, but it hasn't panned out yet.
Berkshire took a new stake in Occidental in early 2022 and has continued buying the stock like there is no tomorrow. Berkshire owns more than 28% of outstanding Occidental shares, and Occidental is the sixth-largest position in Berkshire's portfolio. Some suspect Berkshire will eventually acquire the large U.S. oil producer outright.
Occidental has largely struggled due to falling oil prices and a more bearish outlook on oil for next year. However, the company has continued to pay down debt and also completed the acquisition of Crown Rock in 2024, a transaction that is immediately accretive to free cash flow and adds the equivalent of 170,000 barrels of oil per day.
Buffett clearly likes the way management is running the company and may also view domestic oil as a critical resource with geopolitical tensions on the rise.
Occidental is also making significant efforts to combat climate change and is planning to open the largest direct air capture (DAC) facility in the world in 2025 with the potential to capture 250,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
The company has an average break-even point on oil production of less than $60 per barrel.
Oil is a good asset to have some exposure to in your portfolio because it can hedge inflation and benefit from rising oil prices, which can create turbulence in the market. You can own Occidental for less than 14 times earnings.
2. Kraft Heinz -- Down 50%
The large consumer food company Kraft Heinz (NASDAQ: KHC) is well known as one of Buffett's biggest mistakes. In 2013, Buffett teamed up with the Brazilian private equity firm 3G Capital to purchase Kraft, and then the two also financed Kraft's merger with Heinz to create Kraft Heinz in 2015.
Buffett has admitted he paid too much for Kraft, but he still believes in the company. Berkshire owns nearly 27% of the company, and it is the eighth largest position in Berkshire's portfolio.
Once again, Kraft Heinz widely underperformed the market in 2024 and has continually disappointed investors. In the third quarter, net sales fell roughly 3%, and adjusted earnings through the first nine months of 2024 only rose marginally compared to the same period in 2023. The company hasn't been able to reduce long-term debt much since last year, although it has made good progress in recent years.
Kraft Heinz is compensating investors for their time through share repurchases and a large 5.2% dividend yield that will become even more attractive should rates decline more in 2025. The dividend looks sustainable, with free cash flow through the first three quarters of the year exceeding $2 billion while the company paid $1.5 billion in dividends.
The stock will require more patience for the company to execute a turnaround, but this could be a good one for dividend investors.
3. Liberty Latin America -- Down 81%
The worst performer in Berkshire's portfolio over the past decade is Liberty Latin America (NASDAQ: LILA). Berkshire owns class A and C shares of the company, but they are tiny positions in the portfolio and are currently valued around $25 million together, so it's never been a huge risk.
Liberty Latin America is a telecommunications company providing an array of video, broadband internet, and phone services in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, the Caribbean including Jamaica, and other parts of Latin America. Most of the company's services are bundled together for customers in their perspective markets.
Telecom businesses can certainly create good shareholder value because internet, phone, and video are more ingrained in today's lives than ever. Everyone needs to have Wi-Fi, and it's likely one of the key bills consumers budget for, creating a consistent stream of recurring revenue that can be built at scale.
However, challenges in the telecom sector include competition and regulation. Latin American markets will also present more new challenges -- and opportunities -- to telecom players than in the U.S. In the third quarter, Liberty Latin America saw declining customers, and analysts seem frustrated by the lack of progress in ramping up certain units, such as Puerto Rico.
Many companies with multiple units like this are valued on a sum-of-the-parts basis, which can present significant upside but also take time for the company to unlock and for the market to digest. Given the complexities of the business and slow progress, I wouldn't recommend more than a small speculative position. This one is likely to take time to play out.

Is 2025 the Year to Buy Warren Buffett's 3 Worst-Performing Stocks of the Past Decade?

Those looking to chart a successful course as investors could do worse than emulating the strategy of legendary Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett, who is arguably one of the greatest investors of all time. Since taking charge of the company back in 1965, the so-called "Oracle of Omaha" has amassed an unrivaled track record, as his stock picks have yielded compound annual gains of roughly 20% and have collectively soared a massive 4,384,748%.
While many investors focus on the largest stakes in Berkshire's equity portfolio, a few of the more modest positions have a great deal more upside, according to Wall Street. In fact, three of those stocks could gain between 104% and 157% according to certain Wall Street analysts.
Sirius XM Holdings: Implied upside of 157%
Sirius XM Holdings (NASDAQ: SIRI) is the largest provider of satellite radio services in the U.S. Sirius XM and the company's ad-supported Pandora music streaming service have a combined audience of 34 million paid subscribers and 150 million listeners, giving it unmatched reach in North America. It's such a small part of Buffett's holdings it's barely more than a footnote in Berkshire's $313 billion stock portfolio, at just under $142 million.
The stock has been cut in half in 2024 alone, and while business has been tough, some on Wall Street believe the selling has simply gone too far. Sirius XM's results seem to support that view.
In the first quarter, revenue of $2.16 billion was up 1% year over year, while earnings per share (EPS) of $0.07 climbed 17%. SiriusXM reported record ad revenue thanks to the ongoing rebound in the advertising market. The company suffered from higher churn as paid subscribers declined nearly 2%, partially offset by average revenue per subscriber (ARPU), which was marginally higher. This isn't at all surprising, considering the state of inflation, as consumers continue to make tough choices in the grocery aisle and at the gas pump.
Despite a stock price slump of 33% over the past year, some on Wall Street remain remarkably bullish on Sirius XM. Benchmark analyst Matthew Harrigan maintained a buy rating on the shares with a price target of $6.50. That represents potential upside of 157% compared to Monday's closing price.
The analyst cites a disconnect ahead of its Q3 merger with Liberty Sirius XM and the benefits arising from management's "gaggle of strategic initiatives."
Finally, at just 8 times trailing earnings, investors have almost no growth factored into the current share price. Even a minor acceleration in Sirius XM's growth rate could send the stock higher.
Charter Communications: Implied upside of 139%
Charter Communications (NASDAQ: CHTR) provides broadband internet, cable, and wireless phone services to residential and small and medium-sized business customers in the U.S. It's the type of boring, predictable business with reliable cash flows that Buffett is famous for. The company serves roughly 32 million customers and represents a relatively inconsequential $1.1 billion stake in Berkshire's portfolio.
In the first quarter, revenue of $13.7 billion edged 0.2% higher year over year, weighed down by the end of the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). However, despite the flat revenue growth, EPS of $7.66 grew an impressive 14%. With these federal subsidies ended, Charter's business will likely improve once inflation begins to subside.
Investor fears have driven the stock lower, down 16% over the past year, but some on Wall Street remain unfazed. MoffettNathanson analyst Craig Moffett maintains a buy rating and $660 price target on Charter stock, which represents potential upside for investors of 139% compared to Monday's closing price.
The analyst acknowledges the need for the broadband business to stabilize but says: "We've long argued that Charter doesn't need to show 'broadband reacceleration.' They merely need to show that broadband unit results are predictable enough ... to allow for focus on all the other good things ... (wireless, ARPU growth, margins)."
Finally, at just 9 times trailing earnings, Charter is dirt cheap and has loads of potential upside.
Liberty Latin America: Implied upside of 104%
Liberty Latin America (NASDAQ: LILA) (NASDAQ: LILA.K) isn't a household name in the U.S., but it's one of the leading telecommunications companies serving Latin America, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean. Like Charter Communications, its business is boring, predictable, and reliable. It also represents a minuscule portion of Buffett's holdings, worth a measly $27 million.
In the first quarter, Liberty Latin America's revenue of $1.1 billion was relatively flat year over year as the company focused on the final stages of migrating its customer platform in Puerto Rico. At the same time, its operating income of $93 million slid 13%. However, while sentiment has been dreary, Liberty has been buying back shares hand over fist. In the first quarter alone, the company repurchased 9 million shares or roughly 5% of its outstanding stock.
Despite its recent slump, some Wall Street analysts are pounding the table for Liberty Latin America. Pivotal Research analyst Jeffrey Wlodarczak maintained a buy rating on the shares while increasing his price target to $18. That represents potential upside of 104% compared to Monday's closing price.
The analyst cited the company's better-than-expected revenue and the wireless subscriber conversion of the customers in Puerto Rico acquired from AT&T. Wlodarczak is also bullish on the "material acceleration" in stock buybacks, which will improve per-share profits going forward.
Finally, at just 9 times trailing earnings, investors are getting Liberty Latin America stock for a song in advance of the likely stock price rebound to come.

3 Warren Buffett Stocks That Could Soar Between 104% and 157%, According to Select Wall Street Analysts

In trading on Monday, television & radio shares were relative leaders, up on the day by about 2.1%. Leading the group were shares of Liberty Latin America, up about 12.8% and shares of Urban One up about 10.4% on the day.
Also showing relative strength are packaging & containers shares, up on the day by about 1.5% as a group, led by O-I Glass, trading up by about 3.7% and International Paper, trading higher by about 2.1% on Monday.
