Shares of Lucid Group (NASDAQ: LCID) fell on Monday. The luxury electric vehicle (EV) maker's stock had dropped 7.9% as of 3:10 p.m. ET. The drop came as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up by 0.4% and 0.5%, respectively.
The stock is seeing a retreat after a major jump following last week's announcement that it has inked an important deal with Uber Technologies.

Lucid nets a win
On Thursday, the company announced that it is partnering with Uber and the autonomous driving company Nuro to bring robotaxis to a "major U.S. city" by next year. Nuro's technology will be integrated into Lucid's Gravity SUVs, helping boost sales of the company's new vehicle.
News of the partnership sent Lucid stock flying; however, it seems to be retreating somewhat as investors digest details of the partnership. Although the 20,000 SUVs Uber intends to purchase are a boon for Lucid, the deal is spread out over six years, meaning the 3,000 to 4,000 vehicles Lucid would deliver per year would not transform its delivery numbers. Furthermore, the "multi-hundred-million-dollar" investment Uber intends to make in Lucid could lead to stock dilution.
Challenges remain
Lucid continues to struggle to turn a profit, and its sales volume is much lower than it needs to be. While the company's Gravity sales have been encouraging, they are still lagging behind targets set by the company itself. I have serious doubts Lucid can execute a turnaround, especially given the relative softness of the broader EV market.

Lucid could capture a chunk of this long-term growth through its recently announced partnership with ride-sharing giant Uber Technologies, which says it "aims to deploy 20,000 or more Lucid vehicles equipped with the Nuro Driver™ over six years in dozens of markets around the world."

Uber will purchase a $300 million stake in Lucid's equity and buy at least 20,000 customized Gravity SUVs to help with the rollout of its robotaxi fleet in the U.S. starting next year. The partnership will rely on hardware from a self-driving start-up called Nuro, which is already testing its software in major American cities like Dallas, Miami, and San Diego.
The potential here is huge. Uber could be a natural winner in the race for robotaxi dominance, because, unlike rivals such as Tesla and Alphabet's Waymo, it already boasts a fully built-out ridesharing service and immense brand recognition. For Lucid, this deal represents a much-needed cash infusion while also offering the potential for a large, stable customer that will help its business achieve economies of scale.
To put the potential impacts in context, consider that Lucid sold just 10,241 vehicles globally in 2024. The additional 20,000 orders planned over the next six years could make a sizable impact on the company's top-line growth and margins as it spreads fixed costs across a larger number of vehicles.
Investors also shouldn't forget that the Saudi Arabian government (which has a roughly 60% stake in Lucid) has also agreed to purchase up to 100,000 of its vehicles over the next 10 years, potentially putting Lucid in a fantastic position where ''if you build it, they will come'.
Government support is crucial
Lucid's recent partnership with Uber might be an early sign of the downstream impacts of the U.S. government's push toward a "made in America" policy. In the past, self-driving start-up Waymo attempted to build its self-driving car program on foreign, imported vehicles from Jaguar (a subsidiary of Tata Motors), and most recently, the Chinese company Geely. However, even though large Chinese EV makers can likely offer better value and volume, U.S. tariffs on auto imports make such partnerships politically and financially risky.
Uber's decision to partner with a less established, but domestic brand -- Lucid is headquartered in California -- may be an attempt to avoid these challenges. And unlike high-volume American EV makers such as Tesla, Lucid isn't a potential rival.
Investors should also expect Lucid to get continued support from the government of Saudi Arabia, where it boasts a large manufacturing facility with the capacity to assemble 5,000 vehicles annually (this can be expanded to 155,000 cars if needed). The Saudi Arabian government sees Lucid as an essential part of its plan to diversify its economy away from fossil fuels. And if things go as planned, the Saudi plant could become a hub for EV exports to other Middle Eastern countries.
Lucid is a compelling long-term buy
Lucid's new partnership with Uber could boost its growth and margins by giving it a massive guaranteed customer and better economies of scale benefits as it ramps up production. But that's only part of the reason why this long-suffering company has finally become a strong buy.
Wall Street analysts expect the rollout of new SUV models to send sales growth soaring to 97% next year. And with a price-to-sales (P/S) multiple of just 7, the stock is cheap compared to alternatives like Tesla, which trades for 11.6 times sales despite facing declining revenue in its most recent quarters. Lucid stock probably won't stay this affordable for much longer.
Could Lucid stock make investors who put money into it today into millionaires? Maybe. The market certainly has the potential for growth.

That quote sure holds true today, after Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) shook up the market with its announcement that it will deploy a fleet of robotaxis as demand for autonomous driving vehicles begins to fire on all cylinders. If the market is indeed a short-term voting machine, the market has cast its vote, and Lucid Motors (NASDAQ: LCID) looks like the real winner of this partnership. Lucid's stock popped well over 40% on the news, while Uber traded marginally higher.

Let's dig into what this massive development means for the young electric vehicle (EV) maker.
Best of the best?
When it comes to selecting partners for such a massive deal, Uber could have done a lot worse than selecting the EV company that's brash enough to claim "maker of the world's most advanced electric vehicles."
More specifically, on Thursday, Uber announced a partnership that would unleash more than 20,000 robotaxis over the next six years. As previously mentioned, part of the partnership includes Lucid, but another partner is also in the mix: Nuro, an autonomous vehicle start-up. It breaks down like this: Uber will invest $300 million in Lucid, while Nuro develops the self-driving technology that Lucid will deploy in its vehicles to supply Uber with robotaxis.
"This investment from Uber further validates Lucid's fully redundant zonal architecture and highly capable platform as ideal for autonomous vehicles, and our industry-leading range and spacious well-appointed interiors, as ideal for ridesharing," said Marc Winterhoff, Interim CEO at Lucid, in a press release. "This is the start of our path to extend our innovation and technology leadership into this multi-trillion-dollar market."
This development is a pretty big deal for Lucid. While manufacturing of the 20,000 vehicles in question will be spread over six years and unlikely to start until late next year, it still represents a strong order for the company that just set a quarterly record for deliveries at only 3,309 vehicles, during the second quarter. Moreover, consider that Lucid delivered only 6,418 vehicles during the first half of 2025, and you can understand that 20,000 vehicles for Uber is nothing to sneeze at. In fact, it's about as many vehicles as Lucid hopes to deliver for the full year.
Strategic change
This partnership marks a new era for Uber, which previously exited the robotaxi space in 2020, and signals that the company's strategy going forward will revolve around partnerships with multiple technology developers. It's also not the only deal Uber is working on. In April, the company announced that Volkswagen will supply its ID.Buzz vans for commercial service in Los Angeles next year.
While Uber is the driving force behind this multi-million-dollar partnership, it arguably has the roughest road ahead. Driverless vehicle technology has been more challenging and more costly than anticipated, and it's dealing with tight regulations and federal investigations. Those hurdles caused many start-ups to close their doors, including General Motors' Cruise and Ford Motor Company's Argo AI.
Uber also has some catching up to do in terms of driverless capabilities. Despite years of delays and missed targets, Tesla did start a pilot program with about a dozen Model Y EVs in Austin, Texas, in June, with plans to expand the service to other U.S. cities later this year. Waymo has also been methodically and quietly growing its operations for years in several U.S. cities with a fleet of roughly 1,500 vehicles. It just crossed 100 million miles of autonomous driving in July.
Ultimately, this opens the door to new opportunities for all three companies. But if the market is indeed a voting machine in the short term, there is reason for Lucid investors to be excited. This gets the company's product in front of new customers, in a new addressable market, with partnerships that were once untapped -- it's a big deal, even aside from the $300 million investment. Lucid has a lot of momentum behind it right now, and if the Gravity SUV continues to accelerate its production and deliveries flawlessly, the young EV maker should enter 2026 poised for a tremendous year.
While Lucid is likely to give back some of Thursday's large gains, there's little stopping Lucid's stock from climbing higher as deliveries ramp for the Gravity -- especially if the automaker can curb costs and cash burn in the year ahead.

Lucid Soars on Multimillion Uber Deal -- Can It Go Higher Still?

On Thursday, shares of Lucid Group (NASDAQ: LCID), a Silicon Valley-based electric vehicle (EV) maker, soared more than 36% following the announcement of a premium robotaxi service deal with ride-hailing giant Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER).
My first thought upon seeing the news was "Yet another deal that will benefit Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA)!" The artificial intelligence (AI) tech leader wasn't mentioned in the press release, but I knew of the Nvidia connection.

First, let's look at the Lucid-Uber deal and then see how Nvidia is poised to benefit.
The Uber-Lucid-Nuro partnership
The deal involves Uber procuring Lucid Gravity SUVs equipped with Nuro Driver, a Level 4 self-driving system, to use in a global premium robotaxi service developed exclusively for the Uber ride-hailing platform. Moreover, Uber plans to make "multi-hundred-million-dollar investments" in both Lucid and Nuro, an autonomous driving technology start-up also based in Silicon Valley.
More specifically, Uber "aims to deploy 20,000 or more Lucid vehicles equipped with the Nuro Driver over six years in dozens of markets around the world." Its first launch will be in a major U.S. city and is expected to occur later next year. The first robotaxi prototype is already operating autonomously on Nuro's closed-course testing facility in Las Vegas.
Nuro is a venture-backed start-up, which in April raised $106 million in a Series E funding round, bringing its valuation to $6 billion. Last year, the company shifted its main focus from developing delivery robots to licensing autonomous driving technology.
Of course, this deal is great news for Lucid and Nuro, especially given the big injection of cash they'll receive from Uber. Lucid's vehicles -- the Air sedan and the new Gravity SUV – get high marks for performance and comfort, and sport industry-leading ranges. But it's notoriously difficult for vehicle start-ups to succeed because automakers have extremely high fixed-costs, so liquidity is always a big concern.
At the end of the first quarter of 2025, Lucid had cash and short-term investments of $3.61 billion, and its free cash flow for the quarter was negative $589.9 million, which equates to an annual cash-burn rate of $2.36 billion. At its current cash-burn rate, Lucid's cash and short-term investments would last about 1.5 years.
Why Nvidia is poised to benefit from the Uber-Lucid-Nuro robotaxi deal
Uber, Lucid, and Nuro all have some type of driverless vehicle-related partnership with Nvidia, which isn't surprising as along with enabling the overall AI revolution, Nvidia's AI tech is a major enabler of the AI-powered driverless vehicle revolution. But it's the Nuro-Nvidia partnership that's relevant to Nvidia benefiting from the Uber-Lucid-Nuro robotaxi deal.
Lucid EVs will be equipped with the Nuro Driver Level 4 autonomy system, according to the deal's press release. Nuro is using Nvidia's AI tech to power this system, as it announced at Nvidia's annual GTC (GPU Technology Conference) in March 2024.
More specifically, the "Nuro Driver is built on NVIDIA's end-to-end safety architecture, which includes NVIDIA GPUs [graphics processing units] for AI training in the cloud and an automotive-grade NVIDIA DRIVE Thor computer running the NVIDIA DriveOS operating system inside the vehicle," according to an Nvidia blog. In other words, Nuro is using Nvidia's AI tech for both AI training of its self-driving vehicle system and AI inferencing, since Nvidia's DRIVE Thor, a supercomputer, is the "brains" inside the vehicle.
So, not only does Nuro use Nvidia's data center AI products, which are available via all of the major cloud computing services, but the icing on top is that it must buy an Nvidia DRIVE Thor supercomputer for each vehicle that it equips with its Nuro Driver system. So, it seems safe to assume that every Lucid vehicle that Uber acquires for its new robotaxi service will have an Nvidia DRIVE Thor supercomputer inside it. That Uber and Lucid also have various individual partnerships with Nvidia provides further support for this assumption.
For some context, Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) uses Nvidia's AI tech for training its self-driving vehicle system, called FSD (Supervised), with FSD standing for full self-driving. However, it does not use an Nvidia DRIVE system inside its vehicles. Tesla uses its internally developed tech -- or "AI chip" -- inside its vehicles.
Last month, Tesla had a limited launch of its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas. The Uber-Lucid-Nuro robotaxi service is poised to compete with services operated by Tesla and Alphabet's Waymo, which is currently the leader in the U.S. robotaxi space.
Given Uber's ride-hailing service scale and considerable financial resources (since last year, its trailing-12-month free cash flow has exceeded that of Tesla), the newly planned premium robotaxi service could be a big winner. And the more successful the new Uber-Lucid-Nuro robotaxi service is, the more money Nvidia should make.

The Lucid-Uber Robotaxi Deal: How Nvidia Will Also Benefit

While all the headlines screamed about Uber Technologies' (NYSE: UBER) partnership with Lucid Motors (NASDAQ: LCID) and Nuro, an autonomous driving technology start-up, and the multimillion-dollar investment between them, there was a separate development that nearly everyone overlooked: a potential reverse stock split.

Fair or foul?
EV maker Lucid announced Thursday that it filed a preliminary proxy statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding a special stockholders' meeting to authorize the board of directors to complete a reverse stock split of the company's Class A common stock at a ratio of 1-for-10 (1:10).
Let's break this development down into what it means, and what Lucid hopes to achieve with its potential reverse stock split.
A 1-for-10 reverse stock split simply means Lucid will reduce its outstanding shares by a factor of 10, essentially combining 10 old shares into one new share. The stock price will then be multiplied by 10. In the simplest example, a company with 100 shares with a $1 stock price will reverse split into 10 shares, valued at $10 per share.
It's important to note what this doesn't do, which is change the value of what investors own. While the stock price changes, proportionally to the reduction in the number of shares, the company's market capitalization will remain the same, as will the investors' voting power and position value.
Now to the question on investors' minds: Is this a sign of desperation? Not necessarily, because there are a few reasons that can drive a reverse stock split. It's true that typically a reverse stock split is done by a company in danger of being delisted from major exchanges such as the NYSE or Nasdaq -- both require companies to maintain a minimum share price of $1.00.
If a company's stock price falls below that threshold for 30 consecutive trading days, it receives a deficiency notice and is given a set period to raise its price -- perfect for a reverse stock split. But as we know, Lucid is currently trading at roughly $3.15 per share, and its 52-week low was $1.93 per share. While that's a little close for comfort, especially given the gloomy electric vehicle market currently mitigating tariff impacts, it's not in immediate danger of being delisted.
There is also potential upside for Lucid's potential reverse stock split, as many companies try to push the price of their stock higher to entice big institutional investors. Many institutional investors and mutual funds have policies against owning positions in a stock with a price below a minimum value -- raising the price could enable more large investors to jump into the company's stock, pushing it higher. This is not what typically happens, but Lucid's goal is to make its stock more attractive to more investors.
What it all means
At the end of the day, the market generally views a reverse stock split negatively. It's often a company in financial distress with a falling stock price and potential to be delisted -- not qualities of a great investment.
Lucid is still burning through tons of cash, it's still slowly accelerating deliveries -- although consistently, as it's turned in seven straight quarters of higher deliveries -- and much of its future hinges on the success of its new electric Gravity SUV and its upcoming midsize platform that will underpin at least three more electric SUVs.
Currently, Lucid has the liquidity to fund operations flawlessly through the second half of 2026, and while the market doesn't tend to favor reverse stock splits, this shouldn't raise many red flags for Lucid investors that they weren't already aware of. Lucid is simply a high-risk, high-reward stock, and big swings in its price are inevitable. Invest accordingly.

Lucid fits that description; shares are down over 94% from their all-time high. What the reverse stock split means for investors
Lucid's proposal is for a 1-for-10 reverse stock split. If approved, the reverse split would consolidate every 10 shares into one. So, Lucid's share price, currently $3, would be $30 following the reverse split, but there would be 10% as many shares as before. The bottom line here is that the stock's market capitalization and financial valuation remain unchanged.
Stock splits don't mean as much for investors as you'd think, considering all the attention they receive. Usually, the reason for the stock split matters more than the split itself, especially for reverse stock splits.
In Lucid's case, the reverse split will help the stock remain compliant with the Nasdaq stock exchange's minimum share price listing requirements. Additionally, a higher share price may improve the stock's appeal to individual and institutional investors.
The scoop on Lucid Group's brand-new partnership
Lucid also dropped some major news. It announced a massive partnership with Uber Technologies and Nuro. The venture will have Lucid supply vehicles equipped with Nuro's autonomous driving technology to Uber for use in an autonomous robotaxi program.
The deal involves the purchase of 20,000 vehicles over six years. Uber is also making "multi-hundred-million dollar investments" in Lucid Group and Nuro. The joint venture signals Uber's urgency to counter emerging autonomous competition from Alphabet's Waymo and Tesla's Cybercab.
For Lucid, it provides a much-needed sales boost. The company's electric vehicle (EV) technology has garnered awards, but Lucid still sells far fewer vehicles than needed to sustain its factories and is operating at significant net and cash losses.
Should investors worry about Lucid Group?
By itself, the reverse stock split shouldn't worry investors. It's the stock's ongoing challenges that should. Share prices rarely experience such severe declines without reason.
Lucid has continuously raised funds by issuing new stock. The resulting share dilution has a significant impact on the stock's performance. Uber's investment gives the company a financial incentive to help Lucid succeed, but it's likely going to dilute existing shareholders further.
The 20,000 vehicles may also not be enough to get Lucid over the hump. That's approximately 3,333 vehicles annually, or 833 each quarter. It's a nice boost, but it's also unlikely to solve Lucid's volume problems single-handedly.
Lucid delivered 3,109 units in the first quarter of 2025, generating $235 million in revenue, but reported a $366 million net loss and a $589 million cash-flow loss. It will still take a home run with its upcoming Lucid Earth, a more affordable SUV than its newly launched Gravity, to generate the volume it needs to operate profitably.
Investors would probably be wise to remain cautious, at the very least, until Lucid grows its sales volume to the point where its financial losses become small enough to sustain its business operations without requiring additional fundraising.
Until then, Lucid's business and stock could remain under pressure, even with its exciting new partnership.

Lucid Motors Proposes a 1-for-10 Reverse Split: Should Investors Be Worried?

Right now, if you're looking for stocks that can potentially double in the near term, one of the last places investors would look is within the automotive industry.
But as they say, don't judge a book by its cover. Because there's an emerging electric vehicle (EV) story, one that's accelerating slower than anticipated, but still growing. And if you're looking for an EV maker with momentum, you might want to glance at Lucid Motors (NASDAQ: LCID).

Sales race higher
It's not easy being a young EV maker. You're attempting to break into a new category, often as an entirely new brand, with low production volume and high costs. It's a rough business right now. Throw in the fact that the current government administration is throwing curveballs left and right with tariffs, and the automotive industry is certainly complicated.
But don't tell that to Lucid. The young EV maker just delivered a record number of vehicles during the second quarter. If you're counting, that makes the seventh straight quarter with year-over-year gains in deliveries. Lucid delivered a record 3,309 vehicles, and it was enough -- or perhaps it was the seven quarters in a row -- to catch an eye of at least one analyst.
Benchmark analyst Mickey Legg wrote in a note to investors, per the EV blog, "After meeting with LCID's CFO Taoufiq Boussaid on Tuesday and reviewing Q2 production and deliveries, we remain confident in the company's path to scale."
While Lucid has dished out quarter after quarter of sales records, it still has to live up to its own guidance. Lucid plans to produce and deliver roughly 20,000 vehicles in 2025, and with deliveries checking in at 6,418 vehicles during the first six months, the automaker will need to roughly double its delivery output during the back half of the year to meet targets.
With those projections looming large, it's good timing that Lucid's Gravity SUV is currently accelerating production to drive toward consumers after fulfilling orders for employees and showrooms, among other destinations. Not only is the Gravity priced far below its luxury Air sedans, but the luxury SUV market is much larger than luxury sedans, and Lucid projects the addressable market for the Gravity SUV will be roughly six times as large as the Air sedan market.
Can Lucid double its stock price?
For Lucid to double its stock price, around the $5 mark where Legg has set his price target for the company, it will need to cross a few things off its checklist.
Lucid will need to nearly flawlessly ramp up the production of the Gravity SUV and start driving deliveries higher. Meanwhile, Lucid will also need to work on cost cuts and efficiency to begin making progress toward gross profitability -- much like its competitor Rivian has done for two straight quarters -- to prove it can scale its business. Lucid will also need to convince investors that it has the capital to last until breakeven, which is highly unlikely, or that it has enough promise to warrant more capital investment.
The good news is that at the end of the first quarter, Lucid had $5.76 billion in total liquidity, which should be enough capital to fuel its operations until the second half of 2026. That's also around a major milestone for the company, as it expects its midsize platform, which will spearhead at least three electric SUVs, to arrive.
Ultimately for investors, Lucid has a number of qualities, momentum, and catalysts needed to potentially double. But with current EV market sentiment the way it is, and the administration pulling broader support of EVs, it's going to be an uphill battle in 2025.
That said, investors who are willing to accept significant risk should keep an eye on Lucid in 2026. That's when EV sentiment could turn around and accelerate, its Gravity will be shipping in full force, anticipation for its upcoming midsize SUVs will be growing, it should make progress toward gross profitability and, if it's still setting quarterly delivery records, it just might reach that $5 mark.
