JetBlue Airways Corporation JBLU reported a wider-than-expected loss in first-quarter 2026. Revenues edged past the Zacks Consensus Estimate.
The company reported a loss of 87 cents per share, wider than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of 72 cents. In the year-ago quarter, JBLU reported a loss of 59 cents.
Meanwhile, the operating revenues of $2.24 billion beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.2%. Total revenues jumped 4.7% year over year, with passenger revenues accounting for 91.4% of the top line and increasing 4% to $2.05 billion, while beating our model estimate of $2.03 billion.
On a year-over-year basis, other revenues increased 12.5% to $192 million but missed our estimate of $206.7 million.

Other Details of JBLU’s Q1 Earnings
Revenues per available seat mile (RASM: a key measure of unit revenues) increased 6.5% year over year to $14.60, driven by resilient demand and solid execution in a challenging environment.
Passenger revenues per available seat mile increased 5.8% year over year to 13.35 cents. The average fare at JetBlue increased 3.2% year over year to $219.5. The yield per passenger mile rose 3.9% year over year.
Consolidated traffic (measured in revenue passenger miles) remained flat at $12.6 million on a year-over-year basis. Capacity (measured in available seat miles) fell 1.7% year over year. Consolidated load factor (percentage of seats filled by passengers) increased 1.5 percentage points to 82.2%. Our estimate for the load factor was 81.3%.
Total operating costs (on a reported basis) inched up 6.5% year over year to $2.46 billion. Expenses on aircraft fuel increased 12.1% year over year. Other operating expenses gained 9.9% year over year.
The average fuel price per gallon (including related taxes) was $2.96, up 15.2% year over year. JBLU’s operating expenses per available seat mile (CASM) increased 8.3% year over year. Excluding fuel, CASM rose 6.6% to $12.21.

JBLU’s Outlook
For second-quarter 2026, capacity is anticipated to increase in the band of 1.5-4.5% from second-quarter 2025 actuals. CASM, excluding fuel and special items, is predicted to climb in the range of 3-5%. Capital expenditures are expected to be approximately $275 million. RASM is forecasted to increase in the range of 7-11% from the second-quarter 2025 actuals. The average fuel cost per gallon is estimated to be between $4.13 and $4.28.
For 2026, capital expenditures are expected to be approximately $800 million.
Q1 Performances of Other Transportation Companies
Delta Air Lines DAL reported first-quarter 2026 earnings (excluding $1.08 from non-recurring items) of 64 cents per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 61 cents. Earnings increased 39.1% on a year-over-year basis. Revenues in the March-end quarter were $14.2 billion, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $14 billion and increasing on a year-over-year basis.
J.B. Hunt Transport Services JBHT posted first-quarter 2026 earnings per share of $1.49, up 27% from $1.17 a year ago. The result topped the Zacks Consensus Estimate by $0.04, reflecting a 2.8% surprise.
Operating revenues totaled $3.06 billion, rising 4.6% year over year. Revenues beat the consensus mark of $2.94 billion, resulting in a 3.9% surprise, as demand proved resilient across several service offerings, led by Intermodal volume growth and higher revenue per load in select highway-related businesses.

SpaceX has been one of the most eagerly awaited IPOs, along with OpenAI and Anthropic, but it's not the winning investment you might think it is.
Based on revenue of approximately $15.5 billion-$16 billion last year, SpaceX could debut at a price-to-sales ratio of more than 100, which would make it far more expensive than any stock on the S&P 500, even Palantir, which currently trades at a P/S ratio of 77.
SpaceX could fetch that valuation because of Elon Musk's visionary leadership and the company's bold goals of achieving things like colonizing Mars and sending data centers into space, as dubious as they might be. The company is widely considered the leader in modern rocket technology and pioneered the use of reusable rockets, which have significantly lower costs. Meanwhile, Starlink, its satellite internet division, is the leader in that industry and is the source of most of SpaceX's revenue. The company also owns xAI, following a merger earlier this year, which owns the X social media site and the Grok AI chatbot.
However, SpaceX's valuation could be a bitter pill to swallow and is likely to pressure the stock once it goes public. One stock that looks like a better alternative to SpaceX is Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN).
How Amazon stacks up with SpaceX
What's attractive about Amazon in comparison to SpaceX is that Amazon Leo, formerly known as Project Kuiper, is considered Starlink's closest competitor.
Amazon has launched hundreds of satellites into orbit and is currently providing an enterprise beta service for select business partners as it tests its service, meaning Leo is currently only generating minimal revenue.
However, Leo is believed to be on the verge of commercial service, and JetBlue said it would be the first airline to use Amazon Leo for in-flight Wi-Fi starting next year, a sign that Amazon will likely be selling to other customers. The company also showed it's serious about the satellite internet business with its $11.6 billion acquisition of Globalstar earlier this month.
Amazon doesn't have a rocket business like SpaceX, but Founder Jeff Bezos owns Blue Origin, another space technology company, and it's easy to see a merger between it and Amazon happening if the rocket business were seen as attractive enough.
Amazon isn't considered a major competitor in frontier models, but it is a major investor in Anthropic. After investing $8 billion in Anthropic earlier, it has just reached a deal with the AI start-up to invest $5 billion now, with up to $20 billion more in the future as milestones are reached. For investors looking for exposure to AI, that could be more attractive than SpaceX's ownership of xAI.
What else Amazon owns
Of course, Amazon's value comes from its dominance in e-commerce and cloud computing, which made it the biggest company in the world by revenue in 2025, and generated $77.7 billion in generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) net income.
Amazon has a market cap of $2.8 trillion currently and trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 36, meaning that investors are getting ownership of one of the most dominant companies in the tech industry, with emerging growth opportunities and its stake in Anthropic virtually for free.
Amazon's net income was roughly five times larger than SpaceX's revenue last year, yet SpaceX is targeting a valuation that's only about a third less than Amazon. It seems hard to justify SpaceX's valuation when you look at it that way.
While SpaceX is certainly doing some exciting things with rockets and satellites, the valuation seems unsustainable. If you're looking for exposure to those businesses without the risk, Amazon looks like the much better choice.

Southwest Airlines (LUV) came out with quarterly earnings of $0.45 per share, in line with the Zacks Consensus Estimate . This compares to a loss of $0.13 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.
This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of -0.29%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this airline would post earnings of $0.56 per share when it actually produced earnings of $0.58, delivering a surprise of +3.57%.
Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates two times.
Southwest, which belongs to the Zacks Transportation - Airline industry, posted revenues of $7.25 billion for the quarter ended March 2026, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.41%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $6.43 billion. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates just once over the last four quarters.
The sustainability of the stock's immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will mostly depend on management's commentary on the earnings call.
Southwest shares have lost about 1% since the beginning of the year versus the S&P 500's gain of 3.2%.

What's the most exciting investing story of 2026? While there are several contenders, I'd say the impending initial public offering of SpaceX ranks near the top of the list. The space technology company founded by Elon Musk is preparing for a valuation in the ballpark of $2 trillion, which would make it by far the highest-valued IPO stock ever.
The biggest reason for SpaceX's expected astronomical market cap is its Starlink satellite internet service. Starlink generated revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion with profits of around $8 billion last year, according to Reuters.

But the seemingly easy money for Starlink may be only temporary. SpaceX could soon run into a $2.7 trillion roadblock named Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN).
Amazon enters the space race
Amazon announced in 2019 plans to deploy a large constellation of satellites to offer broadband internet service worldwide. The company launched its first satellites last year and now has 180 satellites in orbit. Its initial design calls for more than 3,000 satellites.
This satellite internet service business was originally named Project Kuiper (after the region of icy objects in the outer solar system called the Kuiper belt. However, Amazon rebranded the unit as Amazon Leo (a nod to the acronym for low earth orbit) in November 2025.
Although Amazon Leo won't begin providing widely available service until later this year, it has already lined up dozens of commercial customers. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in his company's fourth-quarterearnings callthat AT&T (NYSE: T), DirecTV Latin America, JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU), and Australia's national broadband network are among the early customers. He added that Leo has "many more on the way."
Last week, Amazon announced plans to acquire Globalstar (NASDAQ: GSAT) for around $11.6 billion. The deal will enable Amazon Leo to offer direct-to-device services (satellite connectivity for mobile phones and other cellular devices). Amazon simultaneously announced an agreement with Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) to provide satellite services for iPhone and Apple Watch devices.
Advantage SpaceX -- for now
SpaceX's Starlink has a significant head start in the satellite internet services market. It already has more than 7,800 satellites in low Earth orbit. Musk's company has ironed out some of the early stage wrinkles that Amazon Leo will likely face over the next couple of years. Starlink has also already built a substantial customer base.
However, make no mistake: Amazon Leo will be a formidable rival to SpaceX. The Globalstar acquisition and Apple agreement were clearly shots across Starlink's bow.
The space race between these two companies could turn into a capital race. If so, Amazon could chip away at SpaceX's lead. While SpaceX hopes to raise a boatload of cash with its IPO, Amazon already has $123 billion in cash and can easily add to that.
SpaceX also won't be able to match Amazon's ability to offer bundling deals to attract customers. Amazon Leo already offers businesses the option to connect to the AWS cloud. Amazon could choose to subsidize hardware costs by bundling Leo with AWS for corporate customers. What about retail customers? It's not hard to envision Amazon bundling Leo with Prime.
The coming collision
SpaceX could still emerge as the winner of the coming collision with Amazon. A record IPO for the space stock this summer should help improve its chances of success.
However, Amazon's entry into the satellite internet market will tighten this part of the space race significantly. Investors considering buying shares of SpaceX at or immediately after its IPO should keep the intensifying competitive landscape in mind.
Maybe Amazon won't be a full-blown roadblock for SpaceX. But it will almost certainly be a big speed bump.

Concerns around Spirit Aviation Holdings, Inc. FLYYQ, commonly known as Spirit Airlines, intensified on Thursday, April 16, as reports suggested the carrier could face liquidation if restructuring efforts falter under the weight of rising fuel costs. The ultra-low-cost airline, long known for its aggressive pricing model, has been particularly vulnerable to the recent surge in oil prices, which has sharply increased operating expenses at a time when its balance sheet is already strained. The company’s stock fell 10.4% in the session.

Amazon's own low-Earth orbit satellite network, Project Kuiper (also known as "Leo"), will power this rollout. Unlike a limited pilot project, the scale of this deployment provides Amazon with a prominent, large-scale real-world use case, while enabling Delta to deliver standardized, high-speed connectivity across a significant portion of its fleet.
Amazon is building a new revenue stream
This partnership, a second major deal after its deal with JetBlue, provides early validation for Amazon's multibillion-dollar satellite investment.
With more than 10,000 Starlink satellites already in orbit, SpaceX's network holds a significant scale advantage over emerging competitors. However, Amazon's satellite push is not a completely new business segment, but rather an extension of its broader infrastructure strategy spanning cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), and connectivity.
Delta has also already migrated nearly 600 applications to AWS since 2020, and adding connectivity further deepens the relationship.
Amazon, though, faces significant execution risk. The company has Federal Communications Commission (FCC) deployment deadlines that require roughly half of its satellite constellation be operational by July 30, 2026. The regulatory pressures intensified after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr publicly criticized Amazon's slow satellite deployment pace and urged the company to meet its rollout targets.
However, if Amazon executes well, Leo could become a robust new revenue stream. Unlike Delta, Amazon is taking on both the upside and the risk of building an entirely new business.
Delta gains customer loyalty
The successful execution of this deal will help strengthen Delta's customer engagement and retention.
However, the financial impact for Delta will remain indirect. Airlines operate amid volatile fuel prices and cost pressures. Hence, Wi-Fi is a non-core but strategic competitive differentiator rather than a primary revenue driver. Instead, ancillary revenue streams such as baggage fees and seat upgrades remain key monetization avenues. With fuel prices volatile due to geopolitical tensions, customer retention and pricing power are becoming increasingly important.
There is also a timing factor. While Amazon's satellite service is expected to begin commercial operations around 2026, Delta's large-scale rollout will begin in 2028. That gap reinforces that the benefits to Delta will play out gradually over time.
Which stock will benefit the most?
Amazon appears to be the bigger long-term winner, since it is effectively building a new business. On the other hand, Delta's gains are incremental.
Retail investors should expect this partnership to be less about immediate financial impact and more about long-term positioning. Amazon is expanding its addressable market and can see greater share price gains if execution remains on track.
